¹ Ah, the land of the rustling of wings, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia, ² that sends ambassadors by the sea, even in vessels of papyrus upon the waters, saying, You* go swift messengers, to a nation tall and smooth, to a people fearful from their beginning onward, a nation mighty and trampled down, whose land the rivers divide!
³ All you* inhabitants of the world and you* dwellers on the earth, when an ensign is lifted up on the mountains, see you* and when the trumpet is blown, hear you*.
⁴ For thus Jehovah has said to me, I will be still and I will behold in my dwelling-place, like clear heat in sunshine, like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest. ⁵ For before the harvest, when the blossom is over and the flower becomes a ripening grape, he will cut off the sprigs with pruning-hooks and he will take away and cut down the spreading branches. ⁶ They will be left together to the ravenous birds of the mountains and to the beasts of the earth. And the ravenous birds will summer upon them and all the beasts of the earth will winter upon them.
⁷ In that time a present will be brought to Jehovah of hosts from a people tall and smooth, even from a people fearful from their beginning onward, a nation mighty and tramples down, whose land the rivers divide, to the place of the name of Jehovah of hosts, the Mount Zion.

¹² Jehovah recompense your work and a full reward be given you of Jehovah, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.

⁹ And when he heard say of Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, Behold, he comes out to fight against you, he sent messengers again to Hezekiah, saying,

⁸ Keep me as the apple of the eye. Hide me under the shadow of your wings,

⁷ How precious is your loving kindness, O God and the sons of men take refuge under the shadow of your wings.

¹ Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, because my soul takes refuge in you. Yes, in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge until calamities have passed by.

⁴ I will dwell in your tabernacle everlasting. I will take refuge in the covert of your wings. Selah.

⁷ Because you have been my help and in the shadow of your wings I will rejoice.

⁴ He will cover you with his pinions and under his wings will you take refuge. His truth is a shield and a buckler.

³ And Jehovah said, Just as my servant Isaiah has walked naked and barefoot three years for a sign and a wonder concerning Egypt and concerning Ethiopia, ⁴ so will the king of Assyria lead away the captives of Egypt and the exiles of Ethiopia, young and old, naked and barefoot and with buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt.
⁵ And they will be dismayed and confounded because of Ethiopia their confidence and of Egypt their glory. ⁶ And the inhabitant of this coast will say in that day, Behold, such is our trust, where we fled for help to be delivered from the king of Assyria. And we, how will we escape?

² who set out to go down into Egypt and have not asked at my mouth, to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh and to take refuge in the shadow of Egypt!
³ Therefore the strength of Pharaoh will be your* shame and the refuge in the shadow of Egypt your* confusion.

¹ Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses and trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but they do not look to the Holy One of Israel, nor seek Jehovah!

⁴ And a sword will come upon Egypt and anguish will be in Ethiopia, when the slain will fall in Egypt and they will take away her multitude and her foundations will be broken down. ⁵ Ethiopia and Put and Lud and all the mixed people and Cub and the sons of the land that is in league, will fall with them by the sword.

⁹ In that day messengers will go forth from before me in ships to make the careless Ethiopians afraid and there will be anguish upon them, as in the day of Egypt, for behold, it comes.

¹² You* Ethiopians also, you* will be slain by my sword.

¹⁰ From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia, my suppliants, even the daughter of my dispersed, will bring my offering.

³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who have been sent to her! How-often I willed to have gathered together your children in the manner a bird gathers together her brood under her wings, and you did not will it!

⁸ And Cush fathered Nimrod. He began to be a mighty man on the earth. ⁹ He was a mighty hunter before Jehovah. Therefore it is said, Like Nimrod a mighty hunter before Jehovah.

³ And when she could no longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes and daubed it with tar and with pitch. And she put the child in it and laid it in the reeds by the river's edge.

² And it happened in the fifth year of king Rehoboam, that Shishak King of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had trespassed against Jehovah, ³ with twelve hundred chariots and thirty thousand horsemen. And the people were without number who came with him out of Egypt: the Lubim, the Sukkiim and the Ethiopians. ⁴ And he took the fortified cities which pertained to Judah and came to Jerusalem.

⁹ And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an army of a million and three hundred chariots. And he came to Mareshah.

⁸ Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubim a huge army, with chariots and horsemen exceedingly many? Yet, because you relied on Jehovah, he delivered them into your hand.

⁷ In that time a present will be brought to Jehovah of hosts from a people tall and smooth, even from a people fearful from their beginning onward, a nation mighty and tramples down, whose land the rivers divide, to the place of the name of Jehovah of hosts, the Mount Zion.

⁵ And the waters will fail from the sea and the river will be wasted and become dry. ⁶ And the rivers will become foul. The streams of Egypt will be diminished and dried up. The reeds and flags will wither away. ⁷ The meadows by the Nile, by the brink of the Nile and all the sown fields of the Nile, will become dry, be driven away and be no more.

³ Therefore the strength of Pharaoh will be your* shame and the refuge in the shadow of Egypt your* confusion. ⁴ For their rulers are at Zoan and their ambassadors have come to Hanes.

¹ Hear this, all you* peoples. Listen, all you* inhabitants of the world, ² both low and high, rich and poor together.

¹ The Mighty One, God, Jehovah, has spoken and called the earth from the rising of the sun to the going down of it.

² Hear, O heavens and listen, O earth, for Jehovah has spoken. I have nourished and brought up sons and they have rebelled against me.

²⁶ And he will lift up an ensign to the nations from far and will whistle for them from the end of the earth, and behold, they will come with speed swiftly.

¹⁸ And it will happen in that day, that Jehovah will whistle for the fly that is in the outermost part of the rivers of Egypt and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria.

² Set up an ensign upon the bare mountain. Lift up the voice to them. Wave the hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles.

⁴ The noise of a multitude in the mountains, as of a great people! The noise of a tumult of the kingdoms of the nations gathered together! Jehovah of hosts is mustering the army for the battle.

¹¹ Jehovah, your hand is lifted up, yet they do not see. But they will see your zeal for the people and be put to shame. Yes, fire will devour your adversaries.

²⁹ O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of Jehovah.

⁶ Shall the trumpet be blown in a city and the people not be afraid? Shall evil befall a city and Jehovah has not done it?
⁷ Surely the lord Jehovah will do nothing unless he reveals his secret to his servants the prophets. ⁸ The lion has roared, who will not fear? The lord Jehovah has spoken, who can but prophesy?

² Hear, O you* mountains, Jehovah's controversy and you* enduring foundations of the earth, for Jehovah has a controversy with his people and he will contend with Israel.

⁹ The voice of Jehovah cries to the city and the man of wisdom will see your name. Hear the rod and who has appointed it.

¹⁴ And Jehovah will be seen over them. And his arrow will go forth as the lightning. And the lord Jehovah will blow the trumpet and will go with whirlwinds of the south.

⁹ He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

¹⁶ But your eyes are fortunate, because they are seeing, and your ears, because they are hearing.

⁴ he will be as the light of the morning, when the sun rises, a morning without clouds, when the tender grass springs out of the earth, through clear shining after rain.

⁶ He will come down like rain upon the mowed grass, as showers that water the earth.

¹³ Because Jehovah has chosen Zion. He has desired it for his habitation. ¹⁴ This is my resting place forever. I will dwell here, for I have desired it.

⁶ Cry aloud and shout, you inhabitant of Zion, for great in the midst of you is the Holy One of Israel.

³² What then will a man answer the messengers of the nation? That Jehovah has founded Zion and in her will the afflicted of his people take refuge.

¹⁹ Your dead will live. My dead bodies will arise. Awake and sing, you* who dwell in the dust, for your dew is as the dew of herbs and the earth will cast forth the dead.

²¹ For, behold, Jehovah comes forth out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity. The earth also will disclose her blood and will no more cover her slain.

⁹ And his rock will pass away because of terror and his rulers will be dismayed at the ensign, says Jehovah, whose fire is in Zion and his furnace in Jerusalem.

¹³ I bring near my righteousness. It will not be far off. And my salvation will not abide and I will place salvation in Zion for Israel my glory.

¹⁵ I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offense and seek my face. In their affliction they will seek me earnestly.

⁵ I will be as the dew to Israel. He will blossom as the lily and cast forth his roots as Lebanon.

¹⁷ So you* will know that I am Jehovah your* God, dwelling in Zion my holy mountain. Then Jerusalem will be holy and no strangers will pass through her any more.

¹³ The fig tree ripens her green figs and the vines are in blossom. They give forth their fragrance.
Arise, my love, my fair one and come away.

¹⁵ Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vineyards. For our vineyards are in blossom.

¹⁰ For you have forgotten the God of your salvation and have not been mindful of the rock of your strength.
Therefore you plant pleasant plants and set it with foreign slips. ¹¹ In the day of your planting you hedge it in and in the morning you make your seed to blossom. But the harvest flees away in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow.

⁶ And it grew and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward him and the roots of it were under him. So it became a vine and brought out branches and shot forth sprigs.
⁷ There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers. And behold, this vine bent its roots toward him and shot forth its branches toward him, from the beds of its plantation, that he might water it. ⁸ It was planted in a good soil by many waters that it might bring forth branches and that it might bear fruit that it might be a splendid vine.
⁹ You say, The lord Jehovah says thus: Shall it flourish? Shall he not pull up the roots of it and cut off the fruit of it, that it may wither? It will wither in all its fresh springing leaves, even without great power or many people to pluck it up by the roots of it. ¹⁰ Yes, behold, being planted, will it flourish? Shall it not utterly wither when the east wind touches it? It will wither in the beds where it grew.

¹⁹ But you are cast forth away from your sepulcher like an abominable branch, clothed with the slain, who are thrust through with the sword, who go down to the stones of the pit, as a dead body trodden under foot.

¹ Come near, you* nations, to hear. And listen, peoples. Let the earth hear and the fullness of it, the world and all things that come out from it. ² For Jehovah has indignation against all the nations and wrath against all their host. He has utterly destroyed them. He has delivered them to the slaughter. ³ Their slain also will be cast out. And the stench of their dead bodies will come up and the mountains will be melted with their blood.
⁴ And all the host of heaven will be dissolved and the heavens will be rolled together as a scroll. And all their host will fade away as the leaf fades from the vine and as a fading leaf from the fig tree.
⁵ For my sword has drunk its fill in heaven. Behold, it will come down upon Edom and upon the people of my curse, to judgment. ⁶ The sword of Jehovah is filled with blood. It is made fat with fatness, with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams, for Jehovah has a sacrifice in Bozrah and a great slaughter in the land of Edom. ⁷ And the wild oxen will come down with them and the bullocks with the bulls. And their land will be drunken with blood and their dust made fat with fatness.

⁹ All you* beasts of the field, come to devour, yes, all you* beasts in the forest.

³³ And the dead bodies of this people will be food for the birds of the heavens and for the beasts of the earth and none will frighten them away.

³ And I will appoint over them four kinds, says Jehovah: the sword to kill and the dogs to tear and the birds of the heavens and the beasts of the earth, to devour and to destroy.

⁴ And I will leave you upon the land. I will cast you forth upon the open field and will cause all the birds of the heavens to settle upon you and I will satisfy the beasts of the whole earth with you.
⁵ And I will lay your flesh upon the mountains and fill the valleys with your height. ⁶ I will also water the land, in which you swim, with your blood, even to the mountains. And the watercourses will be full of you.

¹⁷ And you, son of man, thus says the lord Jehovah: Speak to the birds of every sort and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves and come. Gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I sacrifice for you*, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that you* may eat flesh and drink blood.
¹⁸ You* will eat the flesh of the mighty and drink the blood of the rulers of the earth, of rams, of lambs and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatten sheep of Bashan. ¹⁹ And you* will eat fat till you* are full and drink blood till you* are drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you*. ²⁰ And you* will be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men and with all men of war, says the lord Jehovah.

¹⁷ And I saw a messenger standing in the sun, and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in mid-heaven, Come-here. Be gathered together to the great supper of God; ¹⁸ in order that you may eat the flesh of kings and the flesh of commanders and the flesh of mighty men and the flesh of horses and of those who sit upon them and the flesh of all men, both free men and bondservants and both the little and the great.

²³ And many brought gifts to Jehovah to Jerusalem and precious things to Hezekiah king of Judah. So that he was exalted in the sight of all nations from thereafter.

²⁹ Because of your temple at Jerusalem kings will bring presents to you.
³⁰ Rebuke the wild beast of the reeds, the multitude of the bulls, with the calves of the peoples, trampling under foot the pieces of silver. He has scattered the peoples that delight in war.
³¹ Rulers will come out of Egypt. Ethiopia will hasten to stretch out her hands to God.

⁹ Those who dwell in the wilderness will bow before him and his enemies will lick the dust.
¹⁰ The kings of Tarshish and of the isles will render tribute. The kings of Sheba and Seba will offer gifts. ¹¹ Yes, all kings will fall down before him. All nations will serve him.
¹² Because he will deliver a needy man when he cries and a poor man, who has no helper. ¹³ He will have pity on a poor and needy man and he will save the souls of the needy.
¹⁴ He will redeem their soul from oppression and violence. And their blood will be precious in his sight, ¹⁵ and they will live. And to him will be given of the gold of Sheba. And men will pray for him continually. They will praise him all the day long.

¹ Send you* the lambs for the ruler of the land from Selah to the wilderness, to the mountain of the daughter of Zion.

⁴ For thus Jehovah has said to me, I will be still and I will behold in my dwelling-place, like clear heat in sunshine, like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.

¹⁷ And it happened after the end of seventy years, that Jehovah examined Tyre and she has repented of her gift, that she play the prostitute with all the kingdoms of the world upon the face of the earth. ¹⁸ And her merchandise and her pay will be holiness to Jehovah. It will not be treasured nor laid up, for her merchandise will be for those who dwell before Jehovah, to eat sufficiently and for durable clothing.

¹⁴ Jehovah says thus: The labor of Egypt and the merchandise of Ethiopia and the Sabeans, men of stature, will come over to you and they will be yours. They will go after you. In chains they will come over and they will fall down to you. They will make supplication to you, saying, Surely God is in you and there is none else, no God.

⁶ The multitude of camels will cover you. The dromedaries of Midian and Ephah, all those from Sheba will come. They will bring gold and frankincense and will proclaim the praises of Jehovah. ⁷ All the flocks of Kedar will be gathered together to you. The rams of Nebaioth will minister to you. They will come up with acceptance on my altar and I will glorify the house of my glory.
⁸ Who are these that fly as a cloud and as the doves to their windows? ⁹ Surely the isles will wait for me and the ships of Tarshish first, to bring your sons from far, their silver and their gold with them, for the name of Jehovah your God and for the Holy One of Israel, because he has glorified you.

¹³ Arise and thresh, O daughter of Zion, for I will make your horn iron and I will make your hoofs brass and you will beat many peoples in pieces. And I will devote their gain to Jehovah and their substance to the Lord of the whole earth.

¹⁶ And it will happen, that everyone who is left of all the nations that came against Jerusalem will go up from year to year to worship the King, Jehovah of hosts and to keep the feast of tabernacles. ¹⁷ And it will be, that of the families of the earth he who does not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, Jehovah of hosts, upon them there will be no rain.

¹¹ For from the rising of the sun even to the going down of the same, my name is great among the Gentiles. And in every place incense is offered to my name and a pure offering. For my name is great among the Gentiles, says Jehovah of hosts.

¹¹ And they came into the house and saw the young child with Mary, his mother. They fell down and worshiped him. Opening their treasures, they offered gifts of gold and frankincense and myrrh to him.

²⁷ And he stood up and traveled away.
And behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch, (a sovereign under Candace, the queen of Ethiopia, who was in charge over all her treasure), who had come to Jerusalem to worship, ²⁸ and who was returning and sitting in his chariot and was reading the prophet Isaiah.
