¹¹ For as the sash clings to the loins of a man, so I have caused to cling to me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, says Jehovah, that they may be to me for a people and for a name and for a praise and for a glory, but they would not hear.

⁵ Now therefore, if you* will obey my voice indeed and keep my covenant, then you* will be my own possession from among all peoples, for all the earth is mine, ⁶ and you* will be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words which you will speak to the sons of Israel.

⁷ For what great nation is there that has a god so near to them, as Jehovah our God is whenever we call upon him?

¹⁸ And Jehovah has avowed you this day to be a people for his own possession, as he has promised you and that you should keep all his commandments,

¹⁰ He found him in a desert land and in the waste howling wilderness. He compassed him about. He cared for him. He kept him as the apple of his eye. ¹¹ As an eagle that stirs up her nest, that flutters over her young, he spreads abroad his wings. He took them. He bore them on his pinions.
¹² Jehovah alone led him and there was no foreign god with him. ¹³ He made him ride on the high places of the earth and he ate the increase of the field and he made him to suck honey out of the rock and oil out of the flinty rock, ¹⁴ butter of the herd and milk of the flock, with fat of lambs and rams of the breed of Bashan and goats, with the finest of the wheat and of the blood of the grape you drank wine.
¹⁵ But Jeshurun grew fat and kicked. You have grown fat. You have grown thick. You have become sleek. Then he forsook God who made him and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.

¹¹ But my people listened not to my voice and Israel would have none of me.

⁴ Because Jehovah has chosen Jacob to himself, Israel for his own possession.

²⁰ He has not dealt so with any nation. And as for his ordinances, they have not known them.
Praise Jehovah.

²¹ the people whom I formed for myself, that they might set forth my praise.

¹² And they will call them The holy people, The redeemed of Jehovah. And you will be called Sought out, A city not forsaken.

¹⁷ And I set watchmen over you*, saying, Listen to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not listen.

²⁶ Yet they listened not to me, nor inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff. They did worse than their fathers.

¹⁰ This evil people, who refuse to hear my words, who walk in the stubbornness of their heart and have gone after other gods to serve them and to worship them, will even be as this sash, which is good for nothing.

²⁰ who set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, even to this day, both in Israel and among other men and made you a name, as at this day,

⁹ And this city will be to me for a name of joy, for a praise and for a glory, before all the nations of the earth, which will hear all the good that I do to them and will fear and tremble for all the good and for all the peace that I procure to it.

³⁷ And the Father who sent me, he has testified concerning me. You have neither heard his voice at anytime, nor have seen his form. ³⁸ And you do not have his word remaining in you, because you do not believe in that man whom he sent for this. ³⁹ You are searching the Scriptures because you think that in them you have everlasting life, and these are those which are testifying concerning me; ⁴⁰ and you are not willing to come to me, in order that you may have life.

⁹ But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s ownership, that you may proclaim the virtues of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light;
