¹ The word that came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying, ² Stand in the gate of Jehovah's house and proclaim there this word and say, Hear the word of Jehovah, all you* of Judah, who enter in at these gates to worship Jehovah.
³ Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel: Amend your* ways and your* practices and I will cause you* to dwell in this place. ⁴ Do not trust in lying words, saying, The temple of Jehovah, the temple of Jehovah, the temple of Jehovah, are these.
⁵ For if you* thoroughly amend your* ways and your* practices, if you* thoroughly execute justice between a man and his neighbor, ⁶ if you* do not oppress the traveler, the fatherless and the widow and shed not innocent blood in this place, nor walk after other gods to your* own hurt, ⁷ then I will cause you* to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your* fathers from of old to everlasting.
⁸ Behold, you* trust in lying words, that cannot profit. ⁹ Will you* steal, murder and commit adultery and swear falsely and burn incense to Baal and walk after other gods that you* have not known, ¹⁰ and then come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name and say, We are delivered, that you* may do all these abominations?
¹¹ Has this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your* eyes? Behold, I, even I, have seen it, says Jehovah.
¹² But go now to my place which was in Shiloh, where I caused my name to dwell at the first and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.
¹³ And now, because you* have done all these works, says Jehovah. And I spoke to you*, rising up early and speaking, but you* heard not and I called you*, but you* answered not, ¹⁴ therefore I will do to the house, which is called by my name, in which you* trust and to the place which I gave to you* and to your* fathers, as I did to Shiloh.
¹⁵ And I will cast you* out of my sight, as I have cast out all your* brothers, even the whole seed of Ephraim.
¹⁶ Therefore pray you not for this people, nor lift up cry nor prayer for them. Neither make intercession to me, for I will not hear you.
¹⁷ Do you not see what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem? ¹⁸ The sons gather wood and the fathers kindle the fire and the women knead the dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings to other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.
¹⁹ Do they provoke me to anger? says Jehovah and not themselves, to the confusion of their own faces?
²⁰ Therefore thus says the lord Jehovah: Behold, my anger and my wrath will be poured out upon this place, upon man and upon beast and upon the trees of the field and upon the fruit of the ground. And it will burn and will not be quenched.
²¹ Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel: Add your* burnt offerings to your* sacrifices and eat you* flesh. ²² For I spoke not to your* fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices.
²³ But this thing I commanded them, saying, Listen to my voice and I will be your* God and you* will be my people. And walk you* in all the way that I command you*, that it may be well with you*. ²⁴ But they listened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in their own counsels, in the stubbornness of their evil heart and went backward and not forward.
²⁵ Since the day that your* fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt to this day, I have sent to you* all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them. ²⁶ Yet they listened not to me, nor inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff. They did worse than their fathers.
²⁷ And you will speak all these words to them, but they will not listen to you. You will also call to them, but they will not answer you.
²⁸ And you will say to them, This is the nation that has not listened to the voice of Jehovah their God, nor received instruction. Truth has perished and is cut off from their mouth.
²⁹ Cut off your hair, O Jerusalem and cast it away and take up a lamentation on the bare heights. For Jehovah has rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.
³⁰ For the sons of Judah have done what is evil in my sight, says Jehovah. They have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it.
³¹ And they have built the high places of Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, which I did not command, nor did it come into my mind.
³² Therefore, behold, the days come, says Jehovah, that it will no more be called Topheth, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of Slaughter. For they will bury in Topheth, till there is no place to bury. ³³ And the dead bodies of this people will be food for the birds of the heavens and for the beasts of the earth and none will frighten them away.
³⁴ Then I will cause to cease from the cities of Judah and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, for the land will become a waste.

¹⁹ And Micaiah said, Therefore hear the word of Jehovah. I saw Jehovah sitting on his throne and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.

²⁰ Wisdom cries aloud in the street. She utters her voice in the broad places. ²¹ She cries in the chief place of concourse, at the entrance of the gates, in the city. She utters her words:

² She stands on the top of high places by the way, where the paths meet. ³ Beside the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors, she cries aloud:

¹⁰ Hear the word of Jehovah, you* rulers of Sodom, listen to the law of our God, you* people of Gomorrah.

⁴ Hear the word of Jehovah, O house of Jacob and all the families of the house of Israel.

¹ Hear the word which Jehovah speaks to you*, O house of Israel.

¹⁹ Thus Jehovah said to me, Go and stand in the gate of the sons of the people, by which the kings of Judah come in and by which they go out and in all the gates of Jerusalem. ²⁰ And say to them, Hear the word of Jehovah, you* kings of Judah and all Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, who enter in by these gates.

² and go forth to the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the Earthen Vessels Gate and proclaim there the words that I will tell you. ³ And say, Hear the word of Jehovah, O kings of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem.
Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, which whoever hears, his ears will tingle.

¹⁴ Then Jeremiah came from Topheth, where Jehovah had sent him to prophesy and he stood in the court of Jehovah's house and said to all the people,

¹ Thus said Jehovah: Go down to the house of the king of Judah and speak there this word, ² and say, Hear the word of Jehovah, O king of Judah, who sits upon the throne of David, you and your servants and your people who enter in by these gates.

² Jehovah says thus: Stand in the court of Jehovah's house and speak to all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in Jehovah's house, all the words that I command you to speak to them, diminish not a word.

⁴ Yet hear the word of Jehovah, O Zedekiah king of Judah. Jehovah says thus concerning you, You will not die by the sword;

⁶ Therefore go and read in the roll, which you have written from my mouth, the words of Jehovah in the ears of the people in Jehovah's house upon the fast-day. And also you will read them in the ears of all Judah who come out of their cities.

¹⁰ Then Baruch read in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of Jehovah, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan, the scribe, in the upper court, at the entry of the new gate of Jehovah's house, in the ears of all the people.

²⁴ Moreover Jeremiah said to all the people and to all the women, Hear the word of Jehovah, all Judah who are in the land of Egypt:

⁴ And the sons are impudent and stiff hearted.
I send you to them and you will say to them, The Lord says thus Jehovah. ⁵ And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear (for they are a rebellious house), yet will know that there has been a prophet among them.

¹ Hear this, O you* priests and listen, O house of Israel and listen, O house of the king, for to you* is the judgment. For you* have been a snare at Mizpah and a net spread upon Tabor.

¹⁶ Now therefore hear the word of Jehovah: You say, Do not prophesy against Israel and do not drop your word against the house of Isaac.

² Hear, you* peoples, all of you*. Listen, O earth and all who are in it and let the Lord Jehovah be witness against you*, the Lord from his holy temple.

¹ And I said, Hear, I beseech you*, you* heads of Jacob and rulers of the house of Israel. Is it not for you* to know justice?

⁹ Hear this, I beseech you*, you* heads of the house of Jacob and rulers of the house of Israel, who abhor justice and pervert all equity.

⁹ He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

²⁰ Jesus answered him, I spoke publicly to the world. I always taught in the synagogue s and in the temple, where the Jews always come together, and I spoke nothing in secret.

²⁰ Travel, and when you stand in the temple, speak to the people all the words of this life.

⁴² And they were not ceasing, teaching and proclaiming the good-news of Jesus as the Christ every day both in the temple and in every house.

⁷ He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the congregations. To the one who overcomes, I will be giving to him to eat from the Tree of Life, which is in the Paradise of God.

¹¹ He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the congregations. He who overcomes may never be hurt from the second death.

¹⁷ He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the congregations. To the one who overcomes, I will be giving to him to eat from the manna which has been hidden and I will be giving him a white voting-pebble and a new name that has been written upon the voting-pebble, which no one knows except he who receives it.

²⁹ He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the congregations.

¹³ He who covers his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.

¹⁶ Wash you*, make you* clean, put away the evil of your* practices from before my eyes. Cease to do evil. ¹⁷ Learn to do good. Seek justice, make the oppressed fortunate, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
¹⁸ Come now and let us reason together, says Jehovah, though your* sins be as scarlet, they will be as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, they will be as wool.
¹⁹ If you* are willing and obedient, you* will eat the good of the land.

⁷ Let the wicked man forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts. And let him return to Jehovah and he will have mercy upon him and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

⁵ For if you* thoroughly amend your* ways and your* practices, if you* thoroughly execute justice between a man and his neighbor, ⁶ if you* do not oppress the traveler, the fatherless and the widow and shed not innocent blood in this place, nor walk after other gods to your* own hurt, ⁷ then I will cause you* to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your* fathers from of old to everlasting.

¹¹ Now therefore, speak to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Jehovah says thus: Behold, I frame evil against you* and devise a device against you*. Return now everyone from his evil way and amend your* ways and your* practices.

¹³ Now therefore amend your* ways and your* practices and obey the voice of Jehovah your* God and Jehovah will relent of the evil that he has pronounced against you*.

¹⁵ I have also sent to you* all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return now every man from his evil way and amend your* practices and do not go after other gods to serve them and you* will dwell in the land which I have given to you* and to your* fathers. But you* have not inclined your* ear, nor listened to me.

³⁰ Therefore I will judge you*, O house of Israel, each one according to his ways, says the lord Jehovah. Return and turn yourselves from all your* transgressions, so iniquity will not be your* ruin.
³¹ Cast away from you* all your* transgressions, by which you* have transgressed and make you* a new heart and a new spirit. For why will you* die, O house of Israel?

⁴ then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet and takes no warning, if the sword comes and takes him away, his blood will be upon his own head.
⁵ He heard the sound of the trumpet and took no warning; his blood will be upon him. But if he had taken warning, he would have delivered his soul.
⁶ But if the watchman sees the sword come and does not blow the trumpet and the people are not warned and the sword comes and takes any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity, but I will require his blood at the watchman's hand.
⁷ So you, son of man, I have set you a watchman to the house of Israel. Therefore hear the word at my mouth and give them warning from me. ⁸ When I say to the wicked man, O wicked man, you will surely die and you do not speak to warn the wicked man from his way, that wicked man will die in his iniquity, but I will require his blood at your hand.
⁹ Nevertheless, if you warn the wicked man of his way to turn from it and he does not turn from his way, he will die in his iniquity, but you have delivered your soul.
¹⁰ And you, son of man, say to the house of Israel, You* speak thus, saying, Our transgressions and our sins are upon us, and we pine away in them. How then can we live?
¹¹ Say to them, As I live, says the lord Jehovah, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked man, but that the wicked man turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your* evil ways, for why will you* die, O house of Israel?

⁸ Therefore produce fruit worthy of repentance. ⁹ Do not think to say among yourselves, We have Abraham for our father; for I say to you, that God is able to lift up children out of these stones for Abraham. ¹⁰ But even already, the ax is laid to the root of the trees, because every tree which is not producing good fruit is cut down and cast into the fire.

⁸ Draw near to God and he will be drawing near to you. Cleanse your hands sinners and purify your hearts you indecisive!

³ And when the people came into the camp, the elders of Israel said, Why has Jehovah struck us today before the Philistines? Let us fetch the ark of the covenant of Jehovah out of Shiloh to us, that it may come among us and save us out of the hand of our enemies.
⁴ So the people sent to Shiloh and they brought from there the ark of the covenant of Jehovah of hosts, who sits above the cherubim. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.

¹⁴ They have also lightly healed the hurt of my people, saying, Peace, peace, when there is no peace.

⁸ Behold, you* trust in lying words, that cannot profit. ⁹ Will you* steal, murder and commit adultery and swear falsely and burn incense to Baal and walk after other gods that you* have not known, ¹⁰ and then come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name and say, We are delivered, that you* may do all these abominations?

¹⁵ Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, Hear now, Hananiah. Jehovah has not sent you, but you make this people to trust in a lie.

²³ because they have done senselessness in Israel and have committed adultery with their neighbors' wives and have spoken words in my name falsely, which I did not command them. And I am he who knows and am witness, says Jehovah.

³¹ Send to all those of the captivity, saying, Jehovah says thus concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite: Because Shemaiah has prophesied to you* and I did not send him and he has caused you* to trust in a lie,

¹⁹ And you* have profaned me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to kill the souls who should not die and to save the souls alive who should not live, by your* lying to my people who listen to lies.

¹¹ The heads of it judge for a bribe and the priests of it teach for a wage and the prophets of it divine for money.
Yet they lean upon Jehovah and say, Is not Jehovah in the midst of us? No evil will come upon us.

¹¹ In that day you will not be put to shame for all your practices, in which you have transgressed against me. For then I will take away out of the midst of you those who rejoice in your pride and you will no more be haughty in my holy mountain.

⁸ Therefore produce fruits worthy of repentance and do not begin to say among yourselves, We have Abraham as our father; for I say to you, that God is able to lift up children to Abraham from these stones.

¹ Then Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam sang on that day, saying,

¹² And they found among the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead four hundred young virgins who had not known man by lying with him and they brought them to the camp to Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.

¹² Concerning this house that you are building, if you will walk in my statutes and execute my ordinances and keep all my commandments to walk in them, then I will establish my word with you, which I spoke to David your father. ¹³ And I will dwell among the sons of Israel and will not forsake my people Israel.

¹⁹ If you* are willing and obedient, you* will eat the good of the land.

³ Give counsel, execute justice, make your shade as the night in the midst of the noonday. Hide the outcasts. Do not betray the fugitive.

¹ If you will return, O Israel, says Jehovah, if you will return to me and if you will put away your abominations out of my sight, then you will not be removed. ² And you will swear, As Jehovah lives, in truth, in justice and in righteousness. And the nations will bless themselves in him and in him they will glory.

³ Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel: Amend your* ways and your* practices and I will cause you* to dwell in this place.

³ Jehovah says thus: Execute you* justice and righteousness. And deliver he who is robbed out of the hand of the oppressor. And do no wrong. Do no violence to the traveler, the fatherless, nor the widow, neither shed innocent blood in this place.

⁸ he who has not given forth upon interest, nor has taken any increase, who has withdrawn his hand from unrighteousness, has executed true justice between man and man,

¹⁷ who has withdrawn his hand from a poor man, who has not received interest nor increase, has executed my ordinances, has walked in my statutes, he will not die for the iniquity of his father. He will surely live.

²¹ And you will not wrong a traveler, neither will you oppress him, because you* were travelers in the land of Egypt.
²² You* will not afflict any widow, or fatherless child. ²³ If you afflict them at all and they cry at all to me, I will surely hear their cry, ²⁴ and my wrath will grow hot and I will kill you* with the sword and your* wives will be widows and your* sons fatherless.

¹⁴ You* will not go after other gods, of the gods of the peoples that are all around you*, ¹⁵ for Jehovah your God in the midst of you is a jealous God, lest the anger of Jehovah your God be kindled against you and he destroy you from the face of the earth.

¹⁹ And it will be, if you will forget Jehovah your God and walk after other gods and serve them and worship them, I testify against you* this day that you* will surely perish.

²⁸ and the curse, if you* will not listen to the commandments of Jehovah your* God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you* this day to go after other gods, which you* have not known.

¹⁷ You will not distort the justice due to the traveler, or to the fatherless, nor take the widow's garments to pledge,

¹⁹ Cursed be he who distorts the justice to the traveler, fatherless and widow. And all the people will say, Truly.

⁶ And he made his son to pass through the fire and practiced soothsaying and used enchantments and dealt with psychics and with sorcery. He worked much evil in the sight of Jehovah to provoke him to anger.

⁴ and also for the innocent blood that he shed, for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood and Jehovah would not pardon.

¹³ If I have despised the case of my man-servant or of my maid-servant when they contended with me, ¹⁴ what then shall I do when God rises up? And when he visits, what shall I answer him? ¹⁵ Did not he who made me in the womb make him? And did not one fashion us in the womb?
¹⁶ If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail, ¹⁷ or have eaten my morsel alone and the fatherless has not eaten of it ¹⁸ (no, from my youth he grew up with me as with a father and her I have guided from my mother's womb); ¹⁹ if I have seen any perish for lack of clothing, or that the needy had no covering; ²⁰ if his loins have not blessed me and if he has not been warmed with the fleece of my sheep; ²¹ if I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, because I saw my help in the gate, ²² then let my shoulder fall from the shoulder-blade and my arm be broken from the bone.

³ Judge the poor man and the orphan. Do justice to the afflicted and destitute man. ⁴ Rescue the poor and needy man. Deliver him from the hand of the wicked man.

³⁸ and shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan. And the land was polluted with blood.

⁷ Their feet run to evil and they make haste to shed innocent blood. Their thoughts are thoughts of wickedness. Desolation and destruction are in their paths.

³⁰ In vain I have struck your* sons. They received no correction. Your* own sword has devoured your* prophets like a destroying lion.

³⁴ Also in your skirts is found the blood of the souls of the innocent poor. You did not find them breaking in. But it is because of all these things.

⁵ For if you* thoroughly amend your* ways and your* practices, if you* thoroughly execute justice between a man and his neighbor,

¹⁰ This evil people, who refuse to hear my words, who walk in the stubbornness of their heart and have gone after other gods to serve them and to worship them, will even be as this sash, which is good for nothing.

⁴ Because they have forsaken me and have estranged this place and have burned incense in it to other gods that they did not know, they and their fathers and the kings of Judah and have filled this place with the blood of innocents,

³ Jehovah says thus: Execute you* justice and righteousness. And deliver he who is robbed out of the hand of the oppressor. And do no wrong. Do no violence to the traveler, the fatherless, nor the widow, neither shed innocent blood in this place.
⁴ For if you* do this thing indeed, then there will enter in by the gates of this house kings sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, he and his servants and his people.

¹⁵ Shall you reign, because you strive to excel in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink and do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him. ¹⁶ He judged the cause of the poor and needy man, then it was well. Was not this to know me? says Jehovah. ¹⁷ But your eyes and your heart are not but for your covetousness and for shedding innocent blood and for oppression and for violence, to do it.

¹⁵ Only know for certain that, if you* put me to death, you* will bring innocent blood upon yourselves and upon this city and upon the inhabitants of it. For of a truth Jehovah has sent me to you* to speak all these words in your* ears.

²³ and they fetched forth Uriah out of Egypt and brought him to Jehoiakim the king, who killed him with the sword and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.

¹³ It is because of the sins of her prophets and the iniquities of her priests, who have shed the blood of the just in the midst of her.

⁶ and has not eaten upon the mountains, nor has lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, nor has defiled his neighbor's wife, nor has come near to a woman in her impurity,

³ And you will say, The lord Jehovah says thus: A city that sheds blood in the midst of her, that her time may come and who makes idols against herself to defile her! ⁴ You have become guilty in your blood that you have shed and are defiled in your idols which you have made. And you have caused your days to draw near and have come even to your years.
Therefore I have made you a reproach to the nations and a mocking to all the countries. ⁵ Those that are near and those that are far from you, will mock you, you infamous one, full of tumult.
⁶ Behold, the rulers of Israel, each one according to his power, have been in you to shed blood.

⁹ Thus Jehovah of hosts has spoken, saying, Execute true justice and show kindness and compassion every man to his brother. ¹⁰ And do not oppress the widow, nor the fatherless, the traveler, nor the poor man. And let none of you* devise evil against his brother in your* heart.
¹¹ But they refused to listen and pulled away the shoulder and stopped their ears, that they might not hear. ¹² Yes, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law and the words which Jehovah of hosts had sent by his Spirit by the former prophets. Therefore great wrath came from Jehovah of hosts.

⁵ And I will come near to you* to judgment and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers and against the adulterers and against the false swearers and against those who oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow and the fatherless and who turn aside the traveler and do not fear me, says Jehovah of hosts.

³⁵ so that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous to the blood of Zechariah son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Assuredly I am saying to you, All these things will be coming upon this generation.
³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who have been sent to her! How-often I willed to have gathered together your children in the manner a bird gathers together her brood under her wings, and you did not will it!

⁴ saying, I have sinned, giving up innocent blood.
But they said, What is that to us? You will see to it.

²⁵ And all the people answered and said, His blood is upon us and upon our children.

²⁷ A clean and undefiled religion with our God and Father is this: to ^{F} visit ^{F} the orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.

⁴⁰ And you will keep his statutes and his commandments, which I command you this day, that it may go well with you and with your sons after you and that you may prolong your days in the land, which Jehovah your God gives you, forever.

⁸ neither will I any more remove the foot of Israel from the land which I have appointed for your* fathers, if only they will observe to do all that I have commanded them, even all the law and the statutes and the ordinances given by Moses.

¹⁸ In those days the house of Judah will walk with the house of Israel and they will come together out of the land of the north to the land that I gave for an inheritance to your* fathers.

²⁰ And say to them, Hear the word of Jehovah, you* kings of Judah and all Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, who enter in by these gates.
²¹ Jehovah says thus: Take heed to yourselves and bear no burden on the Sabbath day, nor bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem. ²² Neither carry forth a burden out of your* houses on the Sabbath day, nor do you* any work. But sanctify yourselves the Sabbath day, as I commanded your* fathers. ²³ But they listened not, nor inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff, that they might not hear and might not receive instruction.
²⁴ And it will happen, if you* diligently listen to me, says Jehovah, to bring in no burden through the gates of this city on the Sabbath day, but to sanctify the Sabbath day, to do no work in it, ²⁵ then there will enter in by the gates of this city kings and rulers sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, they and their rulers, the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. And this city will remain everlasting.
²⁶ And they will come from the cities of Judah and from the places all around Jerusalem and from the land of Benjamin and from the lowland and from the hill-country and from the South, bringing burnt offerings and sacrifices and meal offerings and frankincense and bringing things of thanksgiving, to the house of Jehovah.
²⁷ But if you* will not listen to me to sanctify the Sabbath day and not to bear a burden and enter in at the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, then I will kindle a fire in the gates of it and it will devour the palaces of Jerusalem and it will not be quenched.

⁷ At that instant I will speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy it, ⁸ if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turns from their evil, I will relent of the evil that I thought to do to them.

⁵ saying, Return now each one from his evil way and from the evil of your* practices and dwell in the land that Jehovah has given to you* and to your* fathers, from everlasting even to everlasting.

¹⁵ Because you* have said, We have made a covenant with death and we are at agreement with Sheol. When the overflowing scourge will pass through it will not come to us, for we have made lies our refuge and we have hid ourselves under falsehood.

¹⁰ who say to the seers, Do not see and to the prophets, Do not prophesy to us right things. Speak to us smooth things. Prophesy deceits.

¹⁰ Then I said, Ah, lord Jehovah! Surely you have utterly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, You* will have peace, but the sword reaches to the life.

³¹ The prophets prophesy falsely and the priests bear rule by their means. And my people love to have it so. And what will you* do in the end of it?

⁴ Do not trust in lying words, saying, The temple of Jehovah, the temple of Jehovah, the temple of Jehovah, are these.

¹⁰ Therefore I will give their wives to others and their fields to those who will possess them. For everyone from the least even to the greatest is given to covetousness. From the prophet even to the priest everyone deals falsely.

¹³ Then I said, Ah, lord Jehovah! Behold, the prophets say to them, You* will not see the sword, nor will you* have famine, but I will give you* assured peace in this place.
¹⁴ Then Jehovah said to me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name. I did not send them, nor have I commanded them, nor did I speak to them. They prophesy to you* a lying vision and divination and a thing of nothing and the deceit of their own heart.

¹⁴ In the prophets of Jerusalem also I have seen a horrible thing. They commit adultery and walk in lies. And they strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that none returns from his wickedness. They have all of them become to me as Sodom and the inhabitants of it as Gomorrah.
¹⁵ Therefore Jehovah of hosts says thus concerning the prophets: Behold, I will feed them with wormwood and make them drink the water of gall. For from the prophets of Jerusalem ungodliness has gone forth into all the land.
¹⁶ Jehovah of hosts says thus: Listen not to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you*. They teach you* vanity. They speak a vision of their own heart and not out of the mouth of Jehovah.

²⁶ How long will this be in the heart of the prophets who prophesy lies, even the prophets of the deceit of their own heart?

³² Behold, I am against those who prophesy lying dreams, says Jehovah and tell them. And make my people go-astray by their lies and by their vain boasting. Yet I sent them not, nor commanded them, neither do they profit this people at all, says Jehovah.

⁶ They have seen falsehood and lying divination, who say, Jehovah says, but Jehovah has not sent them. And they have made men to hope that the word would be confirmed. ⁷ Have you* not seen a false vision and have you* not spoken a lying divination, in that you* say, Jehovah says, But I have not spoken?
⁸ Therefore thus says the lord Jehovah: Because you* have spoken falsehood and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you*, says the lord Jehovah. ⁹ And my hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and who divine lies. They will not be in the council of my people, nor will they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither will they enter into the land of Israel.
And you* will know that I am the lord Jehovah.
¹⁰ Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace and there is no peace and when a man builds up a wall, behold, they daub it with untempered mortar, ¹¹ say to those who daub it with untempered mortar, that it will fall.
There will be an overflowing shower and you*, O great hailstones, will fall and a stormy wind will tear it. ¹² Behold, when the wall has fallen, will it not be said to you*, Where is the daubing with which you* have daubed it?
¹³ Therefore thus says the lord Jehovah: I will even tear it with a stormy wind in my wrath and there will be an overflowing shower in my anger and great hailstones in wrath to consume it.
¹⁴ So I will break down the wall that you* have daubed with untempered mortar and bring it down to the ground, so that the foundation of it will be uncovered. And it will fall and you* will be consumed in the midst of it.
And you* will know that I am Jehovah.
¹⁵ Thus I will accomplish my wrath upon the wall and upon those who have daubed it with untempered mortar. And I will say to you*, The wall is no more, nor those who daubed it, ¹⁶ namely, the prophets of Israel who prophesy concerning Jerusalem and who see visions of peace for her and there is no peace, says the lord Jehovah.

³ You will have no other gods before me.

¹⁷ They sacrificed to demons, not God, to gods that they did not know, to new gods that came up of late, which your* fathers did not dread.

⁸ They chose new gods, then war was in the gates. Was there a shield or spear seen among forty thousand in Israel?

²¹ And Elijah came near to all the people and said, How long do you* go limping between the two sides? If Jehovah be God, follow him, but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

¹⁶ But to the wicked man God says, What have you to do to declare my statutes and that you have taken my covenant in your mouth, ¹⁷ since you hate instruction and cast my words behind you?
¹⁸ When you saw a thief, you consented with him and have been partaker with adulterers. ¹⁹ You give your mouth to evil and your tongue frames deceit. ²⁰ You sit and speak against your brother; you slander your own mother's son.
²¹ These things you have done and I kept silence. You thought that I was altogether such a one as yourself. But I will reprove you and set them in order before your eyes.

¹ Behold, Jehovah's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, nor his ear heavy, that it cannot hear. ² But your* iniquities have separated between you* and your* God and your* sins have hid his face from you* so that he will not hear.
³ For your* hands are defiled with blood and your* fingers with iniquity. Your* lips have spoken lies. Your* tongue mutters wickedness. ⁴ No man sues in righteousness and no man pleads in truth. They trust in vanity and speak lies. They conceive mischief and bring forth wickedness. ⁵ They hatch adders' eggs and weave the spider's web. He who eats of their eggs dies and what is crushed breaks out into a viper. ⁶ Their webs will not become garments, nor will they cover themselves with their works. Their works are works of wickedness and the act of violence is in their hands.
⁷ Their feet run to evil and they make haste to shed innocent blood. Their thoughts are thoughts of wickedness. Desolation and destruction are in their paths. ⁸ They do not know the way of peace and there is no justice in their goings. They have made them crooked paths. Whoever goes in it does not know peace.

⁶ if you* do not oppress the traveler, the fatherless and the widow and shed not innocent blood in this place, nor walk after other gods to your* own hurt,

² Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging-place of wayfaring men, that I might leave my people and go from them! For they are all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men. ³ And they bend their tongue–their bow–for falsehood and they have grown strong in the land, but not for truth. For they proceed from evil to evil and they do not know me, says Jehovah.
⁴ You* take heed each one of his neighbor and trust you* not in any brother, for every brother will utterly supplant and every neighbor will go about with gossipers. ⁵ And they will deceive each one his neighbor and will not speak the truth. They have taught their tongue to speak lies. They inwardly set up an ambush. ⁶ Your habitation is in the midst of deceit. Through deceit they refuse to know me, says Jehovah.
⁷ Therefore Jehovah of hosts says thus: Behold, I will melt them and try them, for how else should I do, because of the daughter of my people? ⁸ Their tongue is a deadly arrow; it speaks deceit. He speaks peaceably to his neighbor with his mouth, but in his heart he lies wait for him.
⁹ Shall I not visit them for these things? says Jehovah. Shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

¹³ For according to the number of your cities are your gods, O Judah and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem you* have set up altars to the shameful thing, even altars to burn incense to Baal.

¹⁷ For Jehovah of hosts, who planted you, has pronounced evil against you because of the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have worked for themselves in provoking me to anger by offering incense to Baal.

²⁹ And the Chaldeans, who fight against this city, will come and set this city on fire and burn it, with the houses upon whose roofs they have offered incense to Baal and poured out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke me to anger.

³ because of their wickedness which they have committed to provoke me to anger, in that they went to burn incense and to serve other gods, that they did not know, neither they, nor you*, nor your* fathers.

¹⁰ If he begets a son who is a robber, who sheds blood and who does any one of these things, ¹¹ and who does not do any of those duties, but has even eaten upon the mountains and defiled his neighbor's wife, ¹² has wronged the poor and needy man, has taken by robbery, has not restored the pledge and has lifted up his eyes to the idols, has committed abomination, ¹³ has given forth upon interest and has taken increase, will he then live? He will not live. He has done all these abominations. He will surely die. His blood will be upon him.

¹⁸ As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, robbed his brother and did what is not good among his people, behold, he will die in his iniquity.

²⁵ Therefore say to them, The lord Jehovah says thus: You* eat with the blood and lift up your* eyes to your* idols and shed blood. And will you* possess the land? ²⁶ You* stand upon your* sword, you* work abomination and you* defile every man his neighbor's wife. And will you* possess the land?

¹ Hear the word of Jehovah, you* sons of Israel, for Jehovah has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor goodness, nor knowledge of God in the land. ² There is nothing but swearing and breaking faith and killing and stealing and committing adultery. They break out and blood touches blood.
³ Therefore the land will mourn and everyone who dwells in it will languish with the beasts of the field and the birds of the heavens. Yes, the fishes of the sea will also be taken away.

⁸ But as for me, I am full of power by the Spirit of Jehovah and of judgment and of might, to declare to Jacob his transgression and to Israel his sin.
⁹ Hear this, I beseech you*, you* heads of the house of Jacob and rulers of the house of Israel, who abhor justice and pervert all equity. ¹⁰ They build up Zion with blood and Jerusalem with unrighteousness. ¹¹ The heads of it judge for a bribe and the priests of it teach for a wage and the prophets of it divine for money.
Yet they lean upon Jehovah and say, Is not Jehovah in the midst of us? No evil will come upon us. ¹² Therefore for your* sake Zion will be plowed as a field and Jerusalem will become heaps and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.

⁵ and those who worship the host of heaven upon the housetops and those who worship, who swear to Jehovah and swear by Malcam,

³ Then he said to me, This is the curse that goes forth over the face of the whole land. For everyone who steals will be cut off on the one side according to it and everyone who swears will be cut off on the other side according to it. ⁴ I will cause it to go forth, says Jehovah of hosts and it will enter into the house of the thief and into the house of him who swears falsely by my name. And it will abide in the midst of his house and will consume it, with the timber of it and the stones of it.

² Now we have known that the judgment of God is according to truth upon those who practice such things.

¹⁷ Behold, you who are named a Jew and rest upon the law and boast in God, ¹⁸ and know God’s will and approve the things which carry more-value, being instructed out of the law, ¹⁹ and have confidence that you yourself are a guide of the blind, a light of those who are in darkness, ²⁰ a corrector of the foolish, a teacher of infants, having in the law the form of knowledge and of the truth.
²¹ Therefore you who are teaching a different one, are you not teaching yourself? You who are preaching not to steal, are you stealing? ²² You who are saying to not commit adultery, are you committing adultery? You who detest idols, are you a temple looter? ²³ You who are boasting in the law, through your transgression of the law, are you dishonoring God? ²⁴ ‘For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you,’just-as it has been written. ²⁵ For circumcision indeed profits, if you practice the law, but if you are a transgressor of the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision.
²⁶ Therefore, if the uncircumcision are observing the ordinances of the law, will his uncircumcision not be counted toward circumcision? ²⁷ And the uncircumcision by nature who is completing the law, will be judging you, who are a transgressor of the law through the writing
and circumcision. ²⁸ For he is not a Jew openly; nor is circumcision what is openly in the flesh, ²⁹ but he is a Jew in the hidden thing, and the circumcision is of the heart, in spirit, not in the writing; whose praise is not from men, but from God.

⁹ Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not be inheriting the kingdom of God? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor pedophiles, nor homosexuals, ¹⁰ nor the greedy ones, nor thieves, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will be inheriting the kingdom of God.

¹⁹ Now the works of the flesh are apparent, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, unbridled-lusts, ²⁰ idolatry, sorcery, hostilities, strife, jealousies, furies, selfish ambitions, dissensions, sects, ²¹ envies, murders, drunkenness, revelings and things similar to these things; which I am telling to you beforehand, also just-as I foretold to you, that those who are practicing such things–they will not be inheriting the kingdom of God!

⁵ For this you know, that no fornicator, nor unclean person, nor greedy person, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of the Christ and God. ⁶ Let no one deceive you with empty words; for because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience. ⁷ Therefore do not become joint partakers with them.

² For men will be lovers of themselves, money-lovers, braggarts, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, ³ cold-hearted, implacable, slanderers, with no self-control, untamed, not lovers of good, ⁴ betrayers, rash, having been puffed up, loving sensual-delights rather than loving God; ⁵ holding to a form of godliness, but having denied its power. Now turn yourself away from these people.

¹ From where are the wars and quarrels among you come from? Is it not from here, from your own sensual-delights which are warring in your members? ² You lust and do not have; you murder and are jealous and are not able to obtain; you quarrel and make war; you do not have, because you are not asking. ³ You ask and do not receive, because you ask evilly, in order that you may spend it in your sensual-delights.
⁴ Adulterers and adulteresses, do you not know that the friendship of the world is hostility toward God? Therefore, whoever wills to be a friend of the world is designated as an enemy of God.

⁸ But to the cowardly and unbelieving and sinners and detestable and murderers and fornicators and sorcerers and idolaters and to all the false witnesses, their part will be in the lake which is burning with fire and brimstone; which is the second death.

¹⁵ The dogs and the sorcerers and the fornicators and the murderers and the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices a lie are outside.

⁴ And he built altars in the house of Jehovah, of which Jehovah said, In Jerusalem I will put my name.

⁴ And he built altars in the house of Jehovah, of which Jehovah said, In Jerusalem will my name be everlasting.

⁷ And he set the graven image of the idol which he had made, in the house of God, of which God said to David and to Solomon his son, In this house and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my name everlasting,

¹⁴ Sacrifices of peace offerings are with me. I have paid my vows this day. ¹⁵ Therefore I came out to meet you, diligently to seek your face and I have found you.

⁸ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to Jehovah, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

¹⁰ Hear the word of Jehovah, you* rulers of Sodom, listen to the law of our God, you* people of Gomorrah.
¹¹ What to me is the multitude of your* sacrifices? says Jehovah. I have had enough of the burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fed beasts. And I do not delight in the blood of bullocks or of lambs or of male-goats. ¹² When you* come to appear before me, who has required this at your* hand–to trample my courts?
¹³ Bring no more vain oblations. Incense is an abomination to me. New moon and Sabbath, the calling of assemblies–I cannot bear wickedness and the solemn assembly. ¹⁴ Your* new moons and your* appointed feasts my soul hates. They are a trouble to me. I am weary of bearing them.
¹⁵ And when you* spread forth your* hands, I will hide my eyes from you*. Yes, when you* make many prayers, I will not hear; your* hands are full of blood.

² (for they call themselves of the holy city and steady themselves upon the God of Israel, Jehovah of hosts is his name):

² Yet they seek me daily and delight to know my ways. As a nation that did righteousness and forsook not the ordinance of their God, they ask of me righteous judgments; they delight to draw near to God.
³ Why have we fasted, they say and you do not see? We have afflicted our soul and you take no knowledge. Behold, in the day of your* fast you* find pleasure and exact from all your* laborers. ⁴ Behold, you* fast for strife and contention and to kill* with the fist of wickedness. You* do not fast this day so as to make your* voice to be heard on high.

¹¹ Has this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your* eyes? Behold, I, even I, have seen it, says Jehovah.

¹⁴ therefore I will do to the house, which is called by my name, in which you* trust and to the place which I gave to you* and to your* fathers, as I did to Shiloh.

³⁰ For the sons of Judah have done what is evil in my sight, says Jehovah. They have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it.

³⁴ But they set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it.

¹⁵ And you* were now turned and had done what is right in my eyes, in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbor. And you* had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name.

³⁹ As for you*, O house of Israel, thus says the lord Jehovah: Go you*. Serve each one his idols and hereafter also, if you* will not listen to me. But you* will no more profane my holy name with your* gifts and with your* idols.

²⁹ And they will deal with you in hatred and will take away all your labor and will leave you naked and bare. And the nakedness of your prostitutions will be uncovered, both your lewdness and your prostitutions.

³⁷ For they have committed adultery and blood is in their hands. And with their idols they have committed adultery. And they have also caused their sons, whom they bore to me, to pass through the fire for them to be devoured.

³⁹ For when they had slain their sons to their idols, then they came the same day into my sanctuary to profane it, and behold, thus they have done in the midst of my house.

³¹ And they come to you as the people come and they sit before you as my people. And they hear your words, but do not do them. For with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their gain.

¹³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you are devouring widows’houses, and praying long prayers for a pretext, because of this, you will be receiving even-more condemnation.

¹⁸ I do not speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen, but in order that the Scripture might be fulfilled, ‘He who eats bread with me, lifted up his heel against me.’

²⁶ Jesus answers, It is that man to whom I have dipped the morsel, and I will be giving it to him. And having dipped the morsel, he takes it and gives it to Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son. ²⁷ And after the morsel, then the Adversary entered into him. Therefore Jesus says to that man, What you are doing, do quickly.

²⁸ Therefore they lead Jesus from Caiaphas into the palace, and it was morning, and they themselves did not enter into the palace, in order that they might not be defiled, but in order that they might eat the Passover.

³³ then hear you from heaven, even from your dwelling-place and do according to all that the foreigner calls to you for, that all the peoples of the earth may know your name and fear you, as do your people Israel and that they may know that this house which I have built is called by your name.

⁷ even them I will bring to my holy mountain and make them joyful in my house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted upon my altar, for my house will be called a house of prayer for all peoples.

¹⁶ Behold, I will send for many fishermen, says Jehovah and they will fish them up. And afterward I will send for many hunters and they will hunt them from every mountain and from every hill and out of the clefts of the rocks.
¹⁷ For my eyes are upon all their ways. They are not hid from my face, nor is their iniquity concealed from my eyes.

²⁴ Can any man hide himself in secret places so that I will not see him? says Jehovah. Do I not fill heaven and earth? says Jehovah.

¹³ and he says to them, It has been written, My house will be called a house of prayer, but you made it a den of robbers.

¹⁷ And he was teaching them, saying to them, Has it not been written, ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all the nations? But you have made it a den of robbers.’

⁴⁵ And having entered into the temple, he began to cast out those who were selling and buying in it, ⁴⁶ saying to them, It has been written, 'My house will be a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of robbers.’

¹⁶ and to the ones who are selling the doves he said, Take these things from here. Do not make my Father’s house a house of merchandise.

¹³ And there is no created thing unapparent in his sight, but all things are naked and have been laid-bare to his eyes to whom is our account.

¹⁸ And write to the messenger of the congregation in Thyatira:
The Son of God, who has his eyes like a flame of fire and his feet are similar to polished brass says these things: ¹⁹ I know your works and love and faith and service and endurance and that your last works are more-than the first ones.

⁵ But to the place which Jehovah your* God will choose out of all your* tribes, to put his name there, even to his habitation you* will seek and there you will come.

¹¹ then it will happen that to the place which Jehovah your* God will choose to cause his name to dwell there, there you* will bring all that I command you*: your* burnt offerings and your* sacrifices, your* tithes and the heave offering of your* hand and all your* choice vows which you* vow to Jehovah.

¹ And the whole congregation of the sons of Israel assembled themselves together at Shiloh and set up the tent of meeting there and the land was subdued before them.

³¹ So they set up for them Micah's graven image which he made, all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh.

³ And this man went up out of his city from year to year to worship and to sacrifice to Jehovah of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests to Jehovah, were there.

¹⁰ And the Philistines fought and Israel was struck and they fled every man to his tent. And there was a very great slaughter, for there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmen.
¹¹ And the ark of God was taken and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were killed.

²² And she said, The glory has departed from Israel, for the ark of God is taken.

⁶⁰ so that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men, ⁶¹ and delivered their strength into captivity and their glory into the adversary's hand.
⁶² He also gave his people over to the sword and was angry with his inheritance. ⁶³ Fire devoured their young men and their virgins had no marriage-song. ⁶⁴ Their priests fell by the sword and their widows made no lamentation.

⁶ then I will make this house like Shiloh and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.

¹⁵ And Jehovah, the God of their fathers, sent to them by his messengers, rising up early and sending, because he had compassion on his people and on his dwelling-place. ¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God and despised his words and scoffed at his prophets, until the wrath of Jehovah arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

²⁹ and testified against them, that you might bring them again to your law. Yet they dealt proudly and did not listen to your commandments, but sinned against your ordinances (which if a man does, he will live in them) and withdrew the shoulder and stiffened their neck and would not hear.
³⁰ Yet many years you prolonged with them and testified against them by your Spirit through your prophets. Yet they would not listen. Therefore you gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.

²⁴ Because I have called and you* have refused, I have stretched out my hand and no man has regarded,

² Why, when I came, was there no man? When I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? Or have I no power to deliver? Behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea. I make the rivers a wilderness. Their fish stink because there is no water and die for thirst.

¹² I will destine you* to the sword and you* will all bow down to the slaughter. Because when I called, you* did not answer, when I spoke, you* did not hear, but you* did what was evil in my eyes and chose that in which I did not delight.

⁴ I also will choose their delusions and will bring their fears upon them. Because when I called, none answered. When I spoke, they did not hear. But they did what was evil in my eyes and chose that in which I did not delight.

²⁵ Since the day that your* fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt to this day, I have sent to you* all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them.

⁷ For I earnestly protested to your* fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even to this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Obey my voice.

³ From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, even to this day, these twenty-three years, the word of Jehovah has come to me and I have spoken to you*, rising up early and speaking. But you* have not listened.

¹⁷ therefore Jehovah says thus, the God of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring upon Judah and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them, because I have spoken to them, but they have not heard and I have called to them, but they have not answered.

⁴ However I sent all my servants the prophets to you*, rising up early and sending them, saying, Oh, do not do this abominable thing that I hate.

² The more the prophets called them, the more they went from them. They sacrificed to the Baals and burned incense to graven images.

⁷ And my people are bent on backsliding from me. Though they call them to him who is on high, none at all will exalt him.

¹³ And it has happen that, as he cried and they would not hear, so they will cry and I will not hear, said Jehovah of hosts.

³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who have been sent to her! How-often I willed to have gathered together your children in the manner a bird gathers together her brood under her wings, and you did not will it!

⁵² And they will besiege you in all your gates, until your high and fortified walls come down, in which you trusted, throughout all your land. And they will besiege you in all your gates throughout all your land, which Jehovah your God has given you.

⁷ then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them. And this house, which I have made holy for my name, will I cast out of my sight. And Israel will be a proverb and a parable among all peoples.
⁸ And though this house is so high, yet will every man who passes by it is astonished and will hiss. And they will say, Why has Jehovah done thus to this land and to this house?

⁹ And he burnt the house of Jehovah and the king's house. And all the houses of Jerusalem, even every great house, he burnt with fire.

²¹ And this house, which is so high, everyone who passes by it will be astonished and will say, Why has Jehovah done thus to this land and to this house?

¹⁸ And all the vessels of the house of God, great and small and the treasures of the house of Jehovah and the treasures of the king and of his rulers, all these he brought to Babylon.
¹⁹ And they burnt the house of God and broke down the wall of Jerusalem and burnt all the palaces of it with fire and destroyed all the good vessels of it.

⁶ And now they break down all the carved work of it with hatchet and hammers.
⁷ They have set your sanctuary on fire. They have profaned the dwelling-place of your name to the ground. ⁸ They said in their heart, Let us make havoc of them altogether. They have burned up all the meeting-places of God in the land.

⁶⁰ so that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men,

¹¹ Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised you, is burned with fire and all our pleasant places are laid waste.

¹⁰ and then come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name and say, We are delivered, that you* may do all these abominations?

¹² But go now to my place which was in Shiloh, where I caused my name to dwell at the first and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.

⁶ then I will make this house like Shiloh and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.
⁷ And the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of Jehovah.
⁸ And it happened, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that Jehovah had commanded him to speak to all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people laid hold on him, saying, You will surely die. ⁹ Why have you prophesied in the name of Jehovah, saying, This house will be like Shiloh and this city will be desolate, without inhabitant?
And all the people were gathered to Jeremiah in the house of Jehovah.

¹⁸ Micah the Morashtite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah and he spoke to all the people of Judah, saying, Jehovah of hosts says thus: Zion will be plowed as a field and Jerusalem will become heaps and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.

¹³ And he burned the house of Jehovah and the king's house and all the houses of Jerusalem. Even every great house, he burned with fire. ¹⁴ And all the army of the Chaldeans, who were with the captain of the guard, broke down all the walls of Jerusalem all around.
¹⁵ Then Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive of the poorest of the people and the residue of the people who were left in the city and those who fell away, who fell to the king of Babylon and the residue of the multitude. ¹⁶ But Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard left of the poorest of the land to be vine-dressers and farmer.
¹⁷ And the pillars of brass that were in the house of Jehovah and the bases and the brazen sea that were in the house of Jehovah, the Chaldeans broke in pieces and carried all the brass of them to Babylon. ¹⁸ The pots also and the shovels and the snuffers and the basins and the spoons and all the vessels of brass with which they ministered, they took away. ¹⁹ And the cups and the censors and the basins and the pots and the lamp-stands and the spoons and the bowls–what was from gold, in gold and what was from silver, in silver–the captain of the guard took away.
²⁰ The two pillars, the one sea and the twelve brazen bulls that were under the bases, which king Solomon had made for the house of Jehovah–the brass of all these vessels was without weight. ²¹ And as for the pillars, the height of the one pillar was eighteen cubits and a line of twelve cubits encompassed it and the thickness of it was four fingers; it was hollow. ²² And a capital of brass was upon it. And the height of the one capital was five cubits, with lattice-work and pomegranates upon the capital all around, all of brass. And the second pillar also had like these and pomegranates. ²³ And there were ninety-six pomegranates on the sides. All the pomegranates were a hundred upon the lattice-work all around.

⁷ The Lord has cast off his altar. He has spurned his sanctuary. He has given up the walls of her palaces into the hand of the enemy. They have made a noise in the house of Jehovah, as in the day of a solemn assembly.

¹ How the gold has become dim, the most pure gold changed! The stones of the sanctuary are poured out at the head of every street.

²⁰ As for the beauty of his ornament, he set it in majesty, but they made the images of their abominations and their detestable things in it. Therefore I have made it as an unclean thing to them.
²¹ And I will give it into the hands of the strangers for a prey and to the wicked of the earth for a spoil and they will profane it. ²² I will also turn my face from them and they will profane my secluded place. And robbers will enter into it and profane it.

⁵ And to the others he said in my hearing, Go through the city after him and kill*. Do not let your* eye spare, nor have you* pity. ⁶ Kill utterly the old man, the young man and the virgin and little sons and women, but do not come near any man upon whom is the mark. And begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the old men who were before the house.
⁷ And he said to them, Defile the house and fill the courts with the slain. Go forth. And they went forth and killed* in the city.

²¹ Speak to the house of Israel, The lord Jehovah says thus: Behold, I will profane my sanctuary, the pride of your* power, the desire of your* eyes and what your* soul has compassion. And your* sons and your* daughters whom you* have left behind will fall by the sword.

¹ And Jesus, coming out, was traveling away from the temple, and his disciples came to him to show him the buildings of the temple. ² But Jesus said to them, Do you not see all these things? Assuredly I am saying to you, One stone may not be left here upon another stone, which will not be torn-down.

¹³ And false witnesses stood up, who said, This man is not ceasing to speak blasphemous declarations against this holy place and the law; ¹⁴ for we have heard him saying, that this Jesus the Nazarene will be tearing-down this place and will be changing the customs which Moses gave to us.

¹⁸ Therefore Jehovah was very angry with Israel and removed them out of his sight. There was none left but only the tribe of Judah.
¹⁹ Also Judah did not keep the commandments of Jehovah their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made. ²⁰ And Jehovah rejected all the seed of Israel and afflicted them and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight.

²³ until Jehovah removed Israel out of his sight, as he spoke by all his servants the prophets. So Israel was carried away out of their own land to Assyria to this day.

²⁰ For it happened in Jerusalem and Judah through the anger of Jehovah, until he had cast them out from his presence. And Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

⁹ And he gathered all Judah and Benjamin and those who traveled with them out of Ephraim and Manasseh and out of Simeon, for they came to him out of Israel in abundance when they saw that Jehovah his God was with him.

⁶⁷ Moreover he refused the tent of Joseph and chose not the tribe of Ephraim, ⁶⁸ but chose the tribe of Judah, the Mount Zion which he loved.

⁸ And I saw, when, for this very cause that backsliding Israel had committed adultery, I had put her away and given her a document of divorcement, yet treacherous Judah her sister did not fear, but she also went and played the prostitute.

¹ Then Jehovah said to me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind would not be toward this people. Cast them out of my sight and let them go forth.

³⁹ therefore, behold, I will utterly forget you*. And I will cast you* off and the city that I gave to you* and to your* fathers, away from my presence.

³ For it happened through the anger of Jehovah, in Jerusalem and Judah, until he had cast them out from his presence. And Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

⁴ And Jehovah said to him, Call his name Jezreel, for yet a little while and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu and will cause the kingdom of the house of Israel to cease.

³ They will not dwell in Jehovah's land, but Ephraim will return to Egypt and they will eat unclean food in Assyria.

⁹ They have deeply corrupted themselves, as in the days of Gibeah. He will remember their iniquity. He will visit their sins.

¹⁶ Ephraim is struck. Their root is dried up. They will bear no fruit. Yes, though they bring forth, yet I will kill the beloved fruit of their womb. ¹⁷ My God will cast them away because they did not listen to him and they will be wanderers among the nations.

¹ Ephraim feeds on wind and follows after the east wind. He continually multiplies lies and desolation. And they make a covenant with Assyria and oil is carried into Egypt.

¹⁶ Samaria will bear her guilt, for she has rebelled against her God. They will fall by the sword. Their infants will be dashed in pieces and their women with child will be ripped up.

¹⁰ Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may grow hot against them and that I may consume them. And I will make of you a great nation.

¹⁴ Let me alone, that I may destroy them and blot out their name from under heaven and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.

¹⁸ and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites and David's sons were chief ministers.

¹⁵ And when you* spread forth your* hands, I will hide my eyes from you*. Yes, when you* make many prayers, I will not hear; your* hands are full of blood.

¹⁴ Therefore do not pray you for this people, nor lift up cry nor prayer for them, for I will not hear them in the time that they cry to me on behalf of their trouble.

¹¹ And Jehovah said to me, Pray not for this people for good. ¹² When they fast, I will not hear their cry. And when they offer burnt offering and meal offering, I will not accept them. But I will consume them by the sword and by the famine and by the pestilence.

²⁰ Shall evil be recompensed for good? For they have dug a pit for my soul. Remember how I stood before you to speak good for them, to turn away your wrath from them.

¹⁴ though these three men, Noah, Daniel and Job, were in it, they would deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, says the lord Jehovah.
¹⁵ If I cause evil beasts to pass through the land and they ravage it and it is made desolate, so that no man may pass through because of the beasts, ¹⁶ though these three men were in it, as I live, says the lord Jehovah, they would deliver neither sons nor daughters, they only would be delivered, but the land would be desolate.
¹⁷ Or if I bring a sword upon that land and say, Sword, go through the land, so that I cut off from it man and beast, ¹⁸ though these three men were in it, as I live, says the lord Jehovah, they would deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they only would be delivered themselves.
¹⁹ Or if I send a pestilence into that land and pour out my wrath upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast, ²⁰ though Noah, Daniel and Job, were in it, as I live, says the lord Jehovah, they would deliver neither son nor daughter, they would but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.

⁴ Then they will cry to Jehovah, but he will not answer them. Yes, he will hide his face from them at that time, just-as they have worked evil in their practices.

¹⁶ If anyone sees his brother sinning ^{F} a sin not to death, he will ask and God will be giving him life for those who are not sinning to death. There is a sin to death. I do not say that he should ask concerning that.

²⁷ I have made you a tester and a fortress among my people, that you may know and try their way.

⁶ And he said to me, Son of man, see what they do, even the great abominations that the house of Israel commit here, that I should go far off from my sanctuary? But you will again see yet other great abominations.
⁷ And he brought me to the door of the court. And when I looked, behold, a hole in the wall. ⁸ Then he said to me, Son of man, dig now in the wall. And when I had dug in the wall, behold, a door. ⁹ And he said to me, Go in and see the wicked abominations that they do here.
¹⁰ So I went in and saw, and behold, every form of creeping things and abominable beasts and all the idols of the house of Israel, portrayed upon the wall all around.
¹¹ And there stood before them seventy men of the elders of the house of Israel. And in the midst of them stood Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan, each man with his censer in his hand and the odor of the cloud of incense went up. ¹² Then he said to me, Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel do in the dark, each man in his chambers of imagery? For they say, Jehovah does not see us. Jehovah has forsaken the land.
¹³ He also said to me, You will again see yet other great abominations which they do.
¹⁴ Then he brought me to the door of the gate of Jehovah's house which was toward the north. And behold, there sat the women weeping for Tammuz. ¹⁵ Then he said to me, Have you seen this, O son of man? You will again see yet greater abominations than these.
¹⁶ And he brought me into the inner court of Jehovah's house. And behold, at the door of the temple of Jehovah, between the porch and the altar, were about twenty-five men with their backs toward the temple of Jehovah and their faces toward the east and they were worshiping the sun toward the east.
¹⁷ Then he said to me, Have you seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? For they have filled the land with violence and have turned again to provoke me to anger. And behold, they put the branch to their nose.
¹⁸ Therefore I will also deal in wrath. My eye will not spare, nor will I have pity. And though they cry in my ears with a loud voice, yet I will not hear them.

²³ And they will comfort you* when you* see their way and their practices. And you* will know that I have not done all that I have done in it without cause, says the lord Jehovah.

¹⁹ And lest you lift up your eyes to heaven and when you see the sun and the moon and the stars, even all the host of heaven, you are drawn away and worship them and serve them, which Jehovah your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven.

¹⁶ They moved him to jealousy with strange gods. With abominations they provoked him to anger.

²¹ They have moved me to jealousy with what is not God. They have provoked me to anger with their vanities and I will move them to jealousy with a non-nation. I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.

³⁷ And he will say, Where are their gods, the rock in which they took refuge, ³⁸ which ate the fat of their sacrifices, and drank the wine of their drink offering? Let them rise up and help you*, let them be your* protection.

⁹ but have done evil above all who were before you and have gone and made you other gods and molten images to provoke me to anger and have cast me behind your back,

² Forasmuch as I exalted you out of the dust and made you prince over my people Israel and you have walked in the way of Jeroboam and have made my people Israel to sin, to provoke me to anger with their sins,

²⁶ if I have beheld the sun when it shone, or the moon walking in brightness, ²⁷ and my heart has been secretly enticed and my mouth has kissed my hand ²⁸ (this also is an iniquity to be punished by the judges, for I would have denied the God that is above);

⁴ Their sorrows will be multiplied who give gifts for another god. Their drink offerings of blood I will not offer, nor take their names upon my lips.

⁸ For Jerusalem is ruined and Judah has fallen, because their tongue and their practices are against Jehovah, to provoke the eyes of his glory.

⁶ Among the smooth stones of the valley is your portion. They, they are your lot, even to them you have poured a drink offering; you have offered an oblation. Shall I be appeased for these things?

³ a people who provoke me to my face continually, sacrificing in gardens and burning incense upon bricks,

¹¹ But you* who forsake Jehovah, who forget my holy mountain, who prepare a table for Good-fortune and who fills up mingled wine to Destiny,

¹³ And the houses of Jerusalem and the houses of the kings of Judah, which are defiled, will be as the place of Topheth, even all the houses upon whose roofs they have burned incense to all the host of heaven and have poured out drink offerings to other gods.

⁷ Yet you* have not listened to me, says Jehovah, that you* may provoke me to anger with the work of your* hands to your* own hurt.

¹⁷ But we will certainly perform every word that has gone forth out of our mouth, to burn incense to the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we and our fathers, our kings and our rulers, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. For then we had plenty of food and were well and saw no evil.
¹⁸ But since we left off burning incense to the queen of heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have lacked all things and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine. ¹⁹ And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven and poured out drink offerings to her, did we make her cakes to worship her and pour out drink offerings to her, without our husbands?

²⁵ Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel, saying, You* and your* wives have both spoken with your* mouths and with your* hands have fulfilled it, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings to her. Establish then your* vows and perform your* vows.

²⁸ For when I had brought them into the land, which I swore to give to them, then they saw every high hill and every thick tree and they offered there their sacrifices and there they presented the provocation of their offering. There also they made their sweet aroma and they poured out there their drink offerings.

²² Or are we provoking the Lord to jealousy? We are not mightier than him, are we?

²¹ They have moved me to jealousy with what is not God. They have provoked me to anger with their vanities and I will move them to jealousy with a non-nation. I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.
²² For a fire is kindled in my anger and burns to the lowest Sheol and devours the earth with its increase and sets on fire the foundations of the mountains.

⁷ Since the days of our fathers we have been exceedingly guilty to this day. And for our iniquities have we, our kings and our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity and to plunder and to confusion of face, as it is this day.

⁶ If you have sinned, what do you effect against him? And if your transgressions be multiplied, what do you to him?

²⁰ But if you* refuse and rebel, you* will be devoured with the sword, for the mouth of Jehovah has spoken it.

²⁴ Therefore says the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel, Ah, I will ease me of my adversaries and avenge me of my enemies.

¹⁶ They will be put to shame, yes, confounded, all of them. They will go into confusion together who are makers of idols.

¹⁷ Have you not procured this to yourself, in that you have forsaken Jehovah your God when he led you by the way?

¹⁹ Your own wickedness will discipline you and your backslidings will reprove you. Know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and a bitter, that you have forsaken Jehovah your God and that my fear is not in you, says the Lord, Jehovah of hosts.

¹⁹ For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion, How we are ruined! We are greatly confounded, because we have forsaken the land, because they have cast down our dwellings.

¹¹ But Jehovah is with me as an awesome mighty one. Therefore my persecutors will stumble and they will not prevail. They will be utterly put to shame, because they have not dealt wisely, even with an everlasting dishonor which will never be forgotten.

⁷ O Lord, righteousness belongs to you, but to us shame of face, as at this day, to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to all Israel, who are near and who are far off, through all the countries where you have driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against you.
⁸ O Lord, to us belongs shame of face, to our kings, to our rulers and to our fathers, because we have sinned against you.

¹⁷ Because they have forsaken me and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore my wrath will be kindled against this place and it will not be quenched.

²⁵ Therefore he poured upon him the fierceness of his anger and the strength of battle. And it set him on fire all around, yet he did not know. And it burned him, yet he laid it not to heart.

²⁴ And they will go forth and look upon the dead bodies of the men who have transgressed against me. For their worm will not die, nor will their fire be quenched and they will be an abhorring to all flesh.

²³ I beheld the earth, and behold, it was waste and void and the heavens and they had no light. ²⁴ I beheld the mountains, and behold, they trembled and all the hills moved to and fro. ²⁵ I beheld, and behold, there was no man and all the birds of the heavens were fled. ²⁶ I beheld, and behold, the fruitful field was a wilderness and all the cities of it were broken down at the presence of Jehovah and before his fierce anger.

¹⁰ For the mountains I will take up a weeping and wailing and for the pastures of the wilderness a lamentation, because they are burned up, so that none passes through, nor can men hear the voice of the cattle. Both the birds of the heavens and the beasts have fled; they are gone. ¹¹ And I will make Jerusalem heaps, a dwelling-place of jackals. And I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.

⁴ How long will the land mourn and the herbs of whole country wither? For the wickedness of those who dwell in it, the beasts are consumed and the birds, because they said, He will not see our latter end.

¹⁶ And the people to whom they prophesy will be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword and they will have none to bury them–them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters. For I will pour their wickedness upon them.

²⁷ But if you* will not listen to me to sanctify the Sabbath day and not to bear a burden and enter in at the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, then I will kindle a fire in the gates of it and it will devour the palaces of Jerusalem and it will not be quenched.

¹⁸ For Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel: As my anger and my wrath has been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so will my wrath be poured forth upon you* when you* will enter into Egypt. And you* will be an execration and an astonishment and a curse and a reproach. And you* will see this place no more.

⁶ Therefore my wrath and my anger was poured forth and was kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem and they are wasted and desolate, as it is this day.

³ In fierce anger he has cut off all the horn of Israel. He has drawn back his right hand from before the enemy. And he has burned up Jacob like a flaming fire which devours all around. ⁴ He has bent his bow like an enemy. He has stood with his right hand as an adversary and has slain all who were pleasant to the eye. He has poured out his wrath like fire in the tent of the daughter of Zion.
⁵ The Lord has become as an enemy. He has swallowed up Israel. He has swallowed up all her palaces. He has destroyed his strongholds. And he has multiplied mourning and lamentation in the daughter of Judah.

¹¹ Jehovah has accomplished his wrath. He has poured out his fierce anger and he has kindled a fire in Zion, which has devoured the foundations of it.

⁴⁷ And say to the forest of the South, Hear the word of Jehovah. The lord Jehovah says thus: Behold, I will kindle a fire in you and it will devour every green tree in you and every dry tree. The flaming flame will not be quenched and all faces from the south to the north will be burnt by it. ⁴⁸ And all flesh will see that I, Jehovah, have kindled it. It will not be quenched.

²² As silver is melted in the midst of the furnace, so you* will be melted in the midst of it. And you* will know that I, Jehovah, have poured out my wrath upon you*.

¹¹ Yes, all Israel have transgressed your law, even turning aside, that they should not obey your voice. Therefore the curse has been poured out upon us and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God. For we have sinned against him.

⁶ Who can stand before his indignation? And who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? His wrath is poured out like fire and the rocks are broken apart by him.

¹ For, behold, the day comes, it burns as a furnace and all the proud and all who work wickedness, will be stubble. And the day that comes will burn them up, says Jehovah of hosts, that it will leave them neither root nor branch.

⁴³ And if your hand offends you, cut it off. It is good for you to enter into life crippled, rather than having your two hands, and to go into hell, into the unquenchable fire, ⁴⁴ where a maggot of them is not dead and the fire is not quenched. ⁴⁵ And if your foot offends you, cut it off. It is good for you to enter into life lame, rather than having your two feet, and to be cast into hell, into the unquenchable fire, ⁴⁶ where a maggot is not dead and the fire is not quenched. ⁴⁷ And if your eye offends you, cast it out. It is good for you to enter into the kingdom of God one-eyed, rather than having two eyes, and to be cast into the hell of fire, ⁴⁸ where a maggot of them is not dying and the fire is not quenched.

¹⁰ he will also be drinking out of the wine of the fury of God of which has been mingled undiluted in the cup of his wrath, and he will be tormented in fire and brimstone in the sight of the holy messengers and in the sight of the Lamb;

¹ And I heard a loud voice out of the temple, saying to the seven messengers, Go and pour out the seven bowls of the fury of God into the earth.
² And the first went and poured out his bowl into the earth, and it became an evil sore and wicked upon the men who had the mark of the beast and who are worshiping his image.
³ And the second poured out his bowl into the sea, and it became blood like that of the dead, and every living soul died in the sea.
⁴ And the third messenger poured out his bowl into the rivers and the springs of the waters, and it became blood. ⁵ And I heard the messenger of the waters saying, You are righteous, who is and who was, the Holy One, because you judged these things; ⁶ because they poured out the blood of holy-ones and prophets and you gave blood to them to drink because they are worthy. ⁷ And I heard from the altar saying, Yes, O Lord God, the Almighty, your judgments are true and righteous.
⁸ And the fourth messenger poured out his bowl upon the sun, and it was given to it to burn men in fire. ⁹ And men were burnt with great heat and the men blasphemed the name of God who has the authority over these wounds, and they did not repent to give him glory.
¹⁰ And the fifth messenger poured out his bowl upon the throne of the beast, and his kingdom became darkened, and they were gnawing their tongues out of pain, ¹¹ and they blasphemed the God of heaven out of their pains and out of their sores, and they did not repent from their works.
¹² And the sixth poured out his bowl upon the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, in order that the way of the kings who come from the rising of the sun might be prepared. ¹³ And I saw out of the mouth of the dragon and out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits like frogs; ¹⁴ for they are spirits of demons, doing signs; which travel out to the kings of the whole inhabited-earth, to gather them together to the war of that great day of God the Almighty. ¹⁵ (Behold, I am coming like a thief. The fortunate one is watching and keeping his garments, in order that he may not walk naked and in order that they may see his indecency.) ¹⁶ And they gathered them together into the place which in Hebrew is called Har-Magedon.
¹⁷ And the seventh poured out his bowl upon the air, and there came forth a loud voice from the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It has happened. ¹⁸ And there became lightnings and thunders and voices, and there became a great earthquake, such-as has not happened from which time men were born upon the earth, so-great an earthquake–so great! ¹⁹ And the great city became divided into three parts and the cities of the nations fell and Babylon the great was remembered in God’s sight, to give to her the cup of the wine of the fury of his wrath. ²⁰ And every island fled away and the mountains were not found. ²¹ And great hail, approximately a talant’s poundage,
comes down from heaven upon men and men blasphemed God from the wound of the hail, because its wound is extremely great.

²⁰ To what purpose does there come to me frankincense from Sheba and the sweet cane from a far country? Your* burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your* sacrifices pleasing to me.

¹³ As for the sacrifices of my offerings, they sacrifice flesh and eat it, but Jehovah does not accept them. He will now remember their iniquity and visit their sins. They will return to Egypt.

²¹ I hate, I despise your* feasts and I will take no delight in your* solemn assemblies. ²² Yes, though you* offer me your* burnt offerings and meal offerings, I will not accept them, nor will I regard the peace offerings of your* fat beasts. ²³ You take away from me the noise of your songs, for I will not hear the melody of your viols.

²² And Samuel said, Has Jehovah as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of Jehovah? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice and to listen than the fat of rams.

⁶ Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you have prepared for me. Whole burnt offering and sacrifice for sin you did not require.

⁸ I will not reprove you for your sacrifices and your burnt offerings being continually before me. ⁹ I will take no bullock out of your house, nor male-goats out of your folds.
¹⁰ Because every beast of the forest is mine and the cattle upon a thousand hills. ¹¹ I know all the birds of the mountains and the wild beasts of the field are mine.
¹² If I were hungry, I would not tell you, because the world is mine and the fullness of it. ¹³ Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?
¹⁴ Offer to God the sacrifice of thanksgiving and pay your vows to the Most High. ¹⁵ And call upon me in the day of trouble. I will deliver you and you will glorify me.
¹⁶ But to the wicked man God says, What have you to do to declare my statutes and that you have taken my covenant in your mouth, ¹⁷ since you hate instruction and cast my words behind you?

¹⁶ Because you delight not in sacrifice, else I would give it. You have no pleasure in burnt offering.
¹⁷ The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. A broken and crushed heart, O God, you will not despise.

⁶ For I desire mercy and not sacrifice and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.

¹³ Now when you travel on, learn what is meant by, ‘I will to have mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

³³ and to love him from the whole heart and from the whole intelligence and from the whole soul and from the whole strength and to love his neighbor like himself, is more-than all the whole burnt-offerings and sacrifices.

²⁶ And he said, If you will diligently listen to the voice of Jehovah your God and will do what is right in his eyes and will listen to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases upon you, which I have put upon the Egyptians, because I am Jehovah who heals you.

⁵ Now therefore, if you* will obey my voice indeed and keep my covenant, then you* will be my own possession from among all peoples, for all the earth is mine, ⁶ and you* will be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words which you will speak to the sons of Israel.

³ If you* walk in my statutes and keep my commandments and do them, ⁴ then I will give your* rains in their season and the land will yield its increase and the trees of the field will yield their fruit. ⁵ And your* threshing will reach to the vintage and the vintage will reach to the sowing time and you* will eat your* bread to the full and dwell in your* land safely.
⁶ And I will give peace in the land and you* will lie down and none will make you* afraid. And I will cause evil beasts to cease out of the land, nor will the sword go through your* land. ⁷ And you* will chase your* enemies and they will fall before you* by the sword. ⁸ And five of you* will chase a hundred and a hundred of you* will chase ten thousand and your* enemies will fall before you* by the sword.
⁹ And I will have respect to you* and make you* fruitful and multiply you* and will establish my covenant with you*. ¹⁰ And you* will eat old storage long kept and you* will bring forth the old because of the new.
¹¹ And I will set my tabernacle among you* and my soul will not abhor you*. ¹² And I will walk among you* and will be your* God and you* will be my people.

¹⁰ the day that you stood before Jehovah your God in Horeb, when Jehovah said to me, Assemble the people to me and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they live upon the earth and that they may teach their sons.

¹⁶ Honor your father and your mother, as Jehovah your God commanded you, that your days may be long and that it may go well with you in the land which Jehovah your God gives you.

²⁹ Oh that there were such a heart in them that they would fear me and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them and with their sons everlasting!

³³ You* will walk in all the way which Jehovah your* God has commanded you*, that you* may live and that it may be well with you* and that you* may prolong your* days in the land which you* will possess.

³ Hear therefore, O Israel and observe to do it, that it may be well with you and that you* may increase mightily, as Jehovah, the God of your fathers, has promised to you, in a land flowing with milk and honey.

²⁷ the blessing, if you* will listen to the commandments of Jehovah your* God, which I command you* this day,

⁴ You* will walk after Jehovah your* God and fear him and keep his commandments and obey his voice and you* will serve him and cling to him.

² and will return to Jehovah your God and will obey his voice according to all that I command you this day, you and your sons, with all your heart and with all your soul,

⁸ And you will return and obey the voice of Jehovah and do all his commandments which I command you this day.

²⁰ to love Jehovah your God, to obey his voice and to cling to him, for he is your life and the length of your days, that you may dwell in the land which Jehovah swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob, to give them.

⁴ which I commanded your* fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice and do them, according to all which I command you*, so you* will be my people and I will be your* God,

³³ But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says Jehovah: I will give my laws into their mind and I will write them on their hearts. And I will be their God and they will be my people.

⁶ Whether it is good, or whether it is evil, we will obey the voice of Jehovah our God, to whom we send you, that it may be well with us when we obey the voice of Jehovah our God.

²⁶ (14:25) but now having been manifested and by the prophetic Scriptures, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, has made known to all the nations, into the obedience of the faith; \ulnone\nosupersub

⁵ demolishing evil reasonings and every exalted thing which is lifting itself up against the knowledge of God and capturing every device of the Adversary to the obedience of the Christ;

⁹ and having been completed, he became the cause of everlasting salvation to all those who are obeying him;

⁷ And Jehovah spoke to Moses, Go, get down. For your people, that you brought up out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves. ⁸ They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made for them a molten calf and have worshiped it and have sacrificed to it and said, These are your gods, O Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.

¹⁹ and it happens, when he hears the words of this curse, that he graces himself in his heart, saying, I will have peace, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart, to destroy the moist with the dry.

¹⁶ But they and our fathers dealt proudly and stiffened their neck and did not listen to your commandments, ¹⁷ and refused to obey, neither were mindful of your wonders that you did among them, but stiffened their neck. And in their rebellion they appointed a captain to return to their bondage. But you are a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abundant in loving kindness and did not forsake them.
¹⁸ Yes, when they had made a molten calf for them and said, This is your God that brought you up out of Egypt and had worked great provocations, ¹⁹ yet you in your great mercies did not forsake them in the wilderness. The pillar of cloud did not depart from over them by day to lead them in the way, neither the pillar of fire by night to show them light and the way in which they should go.
²⁰ You also gave your good Spirit to instruct them and did not withhold your manna from their mouth and gave them water for their thirst.

²⁹ and testified against them, that you might bring them again to your law. Yet they dealt proudly and did not listen to your commandments, but sinned against your ordinances (which if a man does, he will live in them) and withdrew the shoulder and stiffened their neck and would not hear.

¹¹ But my people listened not to my voice and Israel would have none of me. ¹² So I let them go after the stubbornness of their heart, that they might walk in their own counsels.

⁷ Our fathers did not understand your wonders in Egypt. They did not remember the multitude of your loving kindnesses, but were rebellious at the sea, even at the Red Sea.
⁸ Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known.
⁹ He also rebuked the Red Sea and it was dried up. So he led them through the depths as through a wilderness. ¹⁰ And he saved them from the hand of him who hated them and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.
¹¹ And the waters covered their adversaries; there was not one of them left. ¹² Then they believed his words. They sang his praise.
¹³ They soon forgot his works. They did not wait for his counsel, ¹⁴ but lusted exceedingly in the wilderness and challenged God in the desert. ¹⁵ And he gave them their request, but sent leanness into their soul.
¹⁶ They also envied Moses in the camp and Aaron the holy ones of Jehovah. ¹⁷ The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan and covered the company of Abiram.
¹⁸ And a fire was kindled in their company. The flame burned up the wicked men.
¹⁹ They made a calf in Horeb and worshiped a molten image. ²⁰ Thus they changed their glory for the likeness of an ox that eats grass.
²¹ They forgot God their Savior, who had done great things in Egypt, ²² wondrous works in the land of Ham and fearful things by the Red Sea.
²³ Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy.
²⁴ Yes, they despised the desirable land. They did not believe his word, ²⁵ but murmured in their tents and did not listen to the voice of Jehovah.
²⁶ Therefore he swore to them, that he would overthrow them in the wilderness, ²⁷ and that he would overthrow their seed among the nations and scatter them in the lands.
²⁸ They also joined themselves to Baal of Peor and ate the sacrifices of the dead. ²⁹ Thus they provoked him to anger with their practices and the plague broke in upon them.
³⁰ Then Phinehas stood up and executed judgment and so the plague was restrained. ³¹ And that was reckoned to him for righteousness to generation and generation until everlasting.
³² They also angered him at the waters of Meribah, so that it went ill with Moses because of them, ³³ because they were rebellious against his spirit and he spoke ill-advisedly with his lips.
³⁴ They did not destroy the peoples, as Jehovah commanded them, ³⁵ but mingled themselves with the nations and learned their works, ³⁶ and served their idols, which became a snare to them.
³⁷ Yes, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons, ³⁸ and shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan. And the land was polluted with blood.
³⁹ Thus they were defiled with their works and played the prostitute in their practices.
⁴⁰ Therefore the wrath of Jehovah was kindled against his people and he detested his inheritance. ⁴¹ And he gave them into the hand of the nations. And those who hated them, ruled over them. ⁴² Their enemies also oppressed them and they were brought into subjection under their hand.
⁴³ Many times he delivered them, but they were rebellious in their counsel and were brought low in their iniquity.
⁴⁴ Nevertheless he regarded their distress when he heard their cry. ⁴⁵ And he remembered his covenant for them and relented according to the multitude of his loving kindnesses. ⁴⁶ He also made them to be pitied by all those who carried them captive.
⁴⁷ Save us, O Jehovah our God and gather us from among the nations, to give thanks to your holy name and to triumph in your praise.
⁴⁸ Praise Jehovah, the God of Israel, from everlasting even to everlasting. And let all the people say, Truly. Praise Jehovah.

²⁷ who say to a block of wood, You are my father and to a stone, You have brought me forth. For they have turned their back to me and not their face.
But in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise and save us.

¹⁷ At that time they will call Jerusalem the throne of Jehovah and all the nations will be gathered to it, to the name of Jehovah, to Jerusalem. Neither will they walk any more after the stubbornness of their evil heart.

²⁶ Yet they listened not to me, nor inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff. They did worse than their fathers.

⁵ Why has this people of Jerusalem then slid back by a perpetual backsliding? They hold firm deceit. They refuse to return.

⁷ For I earnestly protested to your* fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even to this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Obey my voice.
⁸ Yet they obeyed not, nor inclined their ear, but walked each one in the stubbornness of his evil heart. Therefore I brought upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but they did them not.

⁶ You have rejected me, says Jehovah. You have gone backward. Therefore I have stretched out my hand against you and destroyed you. I am weary with relenting.

¹⁷ They say continually to those who despise me, Jehovah has said, You* will have peace. And to everyone who walks in the stubbornness of his own heart they say, No evil will come upon you*.

³³ And they have turned the back to me and not the face. And though I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not listened to receive instruction.

⁸ But they rebelled against me and would not listen to me. They did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, nor did they forsake the idols of Egypt. Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.

¹³ But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness. They did not walk in my statutes and they rejected my ordinances, which if a man keeps, he will live in them. And they greatly profaned my Sabbaths. Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them in the wilderness, to consume them.

¹⁶ because they rejected my ordinances and did not walk in my statutes and profaned my Sabbaths, for their heart went after their idols.

²¹ But the sons rebelled against me. They did not walk in my statutes, nor kept my ordinances to do them, which if a man does, he will live in them. They profaned my Sabbaths. Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness.

¹⁶ For Israel has behaved himself stubbornly, like a stubborn heifer. Now Jehovah will feed them as a lamb in a large place.

⁷ Remember, do not you forget how you provoked Jehovah your God to wrath in the wilderness. From the day that you went forth out of the land of Egypt, until you* came to this place, you* have been rebellious against Jehovah.

²¹ And I took your* sin, the calf which you* had made and burnt it with fire and stamped it, grinding it very small, until it was as fine as dust. And I cast the dust of it into the brook that descended out of the mountain.
²² And at Taberah and at Massah and at Kibroth-hattaavah, you* provoked Jehovah to wrath. ²³ And when Jehovah sent you* from Kadesh-barnea, saying, Go up and possess the land which I have given you*, then you* rebelled against the commandment of Jehovah your* God and you* did not believe him, nor listen to his voice.
²⁴ You* have been rebellious against Jehovah from the day that I knew you*.

⁷ And Jehovah said to Samuel, Listen to the voice of the people in all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me, that I should not be king over them.
⁸ According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even to this day, in that they have forsaken me and served other gods, so do they also to you.

¹⁵ And Jehovah, the God of their fathers, sent to them by his messengers, rising up early and sending, because he had compassion on his people and on his dwelling-place.

¹⁶ But they and our fathers dealt proudly and stiffened their neck and did not listen to your commandments, ¹⁷ and refused to obey, neither were mindful of your wonders that you did among them, but stiffened their neck. And in their rebellion they appointed a captain to return to their bondage. But you are a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abundant in loving kindness and did not forsake them.

²⁶ Nevertheless they were disobedient and rebelled against you and cast your law behind their back and killed your prophets who testified against them to turn them again to you and they worked great provocations.

³⁰ Yet many years you prolonged with them and testified against them by your Spirit through your prophets. Yet they would not listen. Therefore you gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.

⁴ And Jehovah has sent to you* all his servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, (but you* have not listened, nor inclined your* ear to hear),

³⁰ For the sons of Israel and the sons of Judah have done only what was evil in my sight from their youth. For the sons of Israel have only provoked me to anger with the work of their hands, says Jehovah.
³¹ For this city has been to me a provocation of my anger and of my wrath from the day that they built it even to this day, that I should remove it from before my face,

³ And he said to me, Son of man, I send you to the sons of Israel, to nations that are rebellious, which have rebelled against me. They and their fathers have transgressed against me even to this very day.

⁵ and say to them, The lord Jehovah says thus: In the day when I chose Israel and swore to the seed of the house of Jacob and made myself known to them in the land of Egypt, when I swore to them, saying, I am Jehovah your* God, ⁶ I swore to them in that day, to bring them forth out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands.
⁷ And I said to them, Cast away every man the abominations of his eyes and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt. I am Jehovah your* God. ⁸ But they rebelled against me and would not listen to me. They did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, nor did they forsake the idols of Egypt. Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt. ⁹ But I worked for my name's sake (that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, among which they were, in whose sight I made myself known to them) in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt.
¹⁰ So I caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt and brought them into the wilderness. ¹¹ And I gave them my statutes and showed them my ordinances, which if a man does, he will live in them.
¹² Moreover I also gave them my Sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am Jehovah who sanctifies them.
¹³ But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness. They did not walk in my statutes and they rejected my ordinances, which if a man keeps, he will live in them. ¹⁸ And I said to their sons in the wilderness, Walk you* not in the statutes of your* fathers. Neither observe their ordinances, nor defile yourselves with their idols. ¹⁹ I am Jehovah your* God. Walk in my statutes and keep my ordinances and do them, ²⁰ and sanctify my Sabbaths and they will be a sign between me and you*, that you* may know that I am Jehovah your* God.
²¹ But the sons rebelled against me. They did not walk in my statutes, nor kept my ordinances to do them, which if a man does, he will live in them. They profaned my Sabbaths. Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness. ²² Nevertheless I withdrew my hand and worked for my name's sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I brought them forth.
²³ Moreover I swore to them in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the nations and disperse them through the countries, ²⁴ because they had not executed my ordinances, but had rejected my statutes and had profaned my Sabbaths and their eyes were after their fathers' idols.
²⁵ Moreover I also gave them statutes that were not good and ordinances in which they will not live. ²⁶ And I polluted them in their own gifts, in that they caused to pass through the fire all that opens the womb, that I might make them desolate, to the end that they might know that I am Jehovah.
²⁷ Therefore, son of man, speak to the house of Israel and say to them, The lord Jehovah says thus: In this moreover your* fathers have blasphemed me, in that they have committed a trespass against me.
²⁸ For when I had brought them into the land, which I swore to give to them, then they saw every high hill and every thick tree and they offered there their sacrifices and there they presented the provocation of their offering. There also they made their sweet aroma and they poured out there their drink offerings. ²⁹ Then I said to them, What does the high place to which you* go mean? So the name of it is called Bamah to this day.
³⁰ Therefore say to the house of Israel, The lord Jehovah says thus: Do you* pollute yourselves according to the manner of your* fathers and play you* the prostitute according to their abominations? ³¹ And when you* offer your* gifts, when you* make your* sons to pass through the fire, do you* pollute yourselves with all your* idols to this day? And shall I be inquired of by you*, O house of Israel? As I live, says the lord Jehovah, I will not be inquired of by you*.
³² And what comes into your* mind will not be at all, in that you* say, We will be as the nations, as the families of the countries, to serve wood and stone.

² Son of man, there were two women, the daughters of one mother. ³ And they played the prostitute in Egypt. They played the prostitute in their youth. There their breasts were pressed and there was handled the bosom of their virginity.

³⁴ Now when the time of the fruits drew near, he sent his bondservants to the farmers, to receive his fruits. ³⁵ And then the farmers took his bondservants and whipped one, and killed one and stoned one. ³⁶ Again, he sent other bondservants, more-than the first, and they did to them likewise.

¹⁰ And in the harvest season, he sent a bondservant to the farmers, in order that they might give to him from the fruit of the vineyard, but the farmers whipped him and sent him away empty handed. ¹¹ And he sent yet a different bondservant, and they also whipped and dishonored him, and sent him away empty. ¹² And he sent yet a third, and they also traumatized him and cast him forth.

¹⁴ Notwithstanding, they would not hear, but stiffened their neck, like the neck of their fathers who did not believe in Jehovah their God.

⁸ Now be you* not stiff-necked, as your* fathers were, but yield yourselves to Jehovah and enter into his sanctuary, which he has made holy everlasting and serve Jehovah your* God, that his fierce anger may turn away from you*.

¹⁰ And Jehovah spoke to Manasseh and to his people, but they gave no heed.

¹ He who, being often reproved, hardens his neck will suddenly be destroyed and that without remedy.

⁴ Because I knew that you are obstinate and your neck is an iron muscle and your brow brass,

¹⁷ And I set watchmen over you*, saying, Listen to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not listen.

²⁴ But they listened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in their own counsels, in the stubbornness of their evil heart and went backward and not forward.

⁸ Yet they obeyed not, nor inclined their ear, but walked each one in the stubbornness of his evil heart. Therefore I brought upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but they did them not.

¹² And you* have done evil more than your* fathers, for, behold, you* walk each one after the stubbornness of his evil heart, so that you* listen not to me.

²³ But they listened not, nor inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff, that they might not hear and might not receive instruction.

¹⁵ Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all its towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have made their neck stiff, that they may not hear my words.

⁵ to listen to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I send to you*, even rising up early and sending them, but you* have not listened,

¹⁹ because they have not listened to my words, says Jehovah, with which I sent to them my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them. But you* would not hear, says Jehovah.

¹⁴ At the end of seven years you* will let go every man his brother who is a Hebrew, who has been sold to you and has served you six years. You will let him go free from you. But your* fathers listened not to me, nor inclined their ear.

¹⁶ As for the word that you have spoken to us in the name of Jehovah, we will not listen to you.

⁶ nor have we listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our rulers and our fathers and to all the people of the land.

³⁸ But the farmers, when they saw the son, said among themselves, This is the heir. Come-here. We should kill him, and we might hold-onto his inheritance.

³² And you, fill up the measure of your fathers.

⁵¹ You are stiff-necked and non-circumcised in heart and ears. You are habitually defying the Holy Spirit, like your fathers, like you also!

⁵ But you store up wrath for yourself according to your hardness and unrepentant heart in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

⁹ And he said, Go and tell this people, Hear indeed, but do not understand and see you* indeed, but do not perceive. ¹⁰ Make the heart of this people fat and make their ears heavy and shut their eyes, lest they see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn and be healed.

⁷ But Jehovah said to me, Do not say, I am a child. For I will send you to whomever; you will go and whatever I will command you; you will speak.

¹⁹ And they will fight against you. But they will not prevail against you, for I am with you, says Jehovah, to deliver you.

⁴ And the sons are impudent and stiff hearted.
I send you to them and you will say to them, The Lord says thus Jehovah. ⁵ And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear (for they are a rebellious house), yet will know that there has been a prophet among them.
⁶ And you, son of man, do not be afraid of them, nor be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns are with you and you dwell among scorpions. Do not be afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they are a rebellious house. ⁷ And you will speak my words to them, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear, for they are most rebellious.

⁴ And he said to me, Son of man, go, get to the house of Israel and speak to them with my words. ⁵ For you are not sent to a people of a strange speech and of a hard language, but to the house of Israel, ⁶ not to many peoples of a strange speech and of a hard language, whose words you cannot understand.
Surely, if I sent you to them, they would listen to you. ⁷ But the house of Israel will not listen to you, for they will not listen to me. For all the house of Israel are of a hard forehead and of a stiff heart.
⁸ Behold, I have made your face hard against their faces and your forehead hard against their foreheads. ⁹ As an adamant, harder than flint, I have made your forehead. Fear them not, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they are a rebellious house.
¹⁰ Moreover he said to me, Son of man, all my words that I will speak to you, receive in your heart and hear with your ears. ¹¹ And go, get to those of the captivity, to the sons of your people and speak to them and tell them, The lord Jehovah says thus, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear.

¹⁷ Son of man, I have made you a watchman to the house of Israel. Therefore hear the word at my mouth and give them warning from me.
¹⁸ When I say to a wicked man, You will surely die and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked man from his wicked way, to save his life, the same wicked man will die in his iniquity, but I will require his blood at your hand.

²⁷ For I did not retreat back from proclaiming to you the whole plan of God.

¹⁷ since you hate instruction and cast my words behind you?

⁷ The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of knowledge. The foolish despise wisdom and instruction.

⁴ Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, sons who deal corruptly! They have forsaken Jehovah. They have despised the Holy One of Israel. They have gone away backward.
⁵ Why will you* still be stricken, that you* revolt more and more? The whole head is sick and the whole heart faint.

¹⁴ And justice is turned away backward and righteousness stands afar off. For truth has fallen in the street and uprightness cannot enter. ¹⁵ Yes, truth is lacking and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey.
And Jehovah saw it and it displeased him that there was no justice.

¹ Run you* to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem and see now and know and seek in the broad places of it, if you* can find a man, if there is any who does justly, who seeks truth and I will pardon her.

³ O Jehovah, do not your eyes look upon truth? You have stricken them, but they were not grieved. You have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction. They have made their faces harder than a rock. They have refused to return.

⁸ Be instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul be alienated from you, lest I make you a desolation, a land not inhabited.

²⁹ The bellows blow fiercely, the lead is consumed of the fire. In vain do they go on refining, for the wicked are not plucked away. ³⁰ Waste silver, men will call them, because Jehovah has rejected them.

³ And they bend their tongue–their bow–for falsehood and they have grown strong in the land, but not for truth. For they proceed from evil to evil and they do not know me, says Jehovah.
⁴ You* take heed each one of his neighbor and trust you* not in any brother, for every brother will utterly supplant and every neighbor will go about with gossipers. ⁵ And they will deceive each one his neighbor and will not speak the truth. They have taught their tongue to speak lies. They inwardly set up an ambush. ⁶ Your habitation is in the midst of deceit. Through deceit they refuse to know me, says Jehovah.
⁷ Therefore Jehovah of hosts says thus: Behold, I will melt them and try them, for how else should I do, because of the daughter of my people? ⁸ Their tongue is a deadly arrow; it speaks deceit. He speaks peaceably to his neighbor with his mouth, but in his heart he lies wait for him.

¹ Hear the word of Jehovah, you* sons of Israel, for Jehovah has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor goodness, nor knowledge of God in the land.

² The devout man has perished out of the earth and there is none upright among men. They all lie in wait for blood. They hunt every man his brother with a net. ³ Their hands are upon what is evil to do it diligently. The ruler asks and the judge asks for a bribe. And the great man, he utters the evil desire of his soul. Thus they weave it together.
⁴ The best of them is as a brier. The most upright is worse than a thorn hedge. The day of your watchmen, even your visitation, has come. Now will be their perplexity.
⁵ Trust you* not in a neighbor. Put you* not confidence in a friend. Keep the doors of your mouth from her who lies in your bosom.

² She obeyed not the voice. She received not correction. She trusted not in Jehovah. She did not draw near to her God.

⁷ I said, Only fear me. Receive correction, so her dwelling will not be cut off, according to all that I have appointed concerning her. But they rose early and corrupted all their practices.

⁵ They have dealt corruptly with him. They are not his sons, it is their blemish, a perverse and crooked generation.

²⁰ And Jehovah rejected all the seed of Israel and afflicted them and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight.

²⁰ Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell down upon the ground and worshiped.

² They have gone up to the house and to Dibon, to the high places, to weep. Moab wails over Nebo and over Medeba. On all their heads is baldness. Every beard is cut off. ³ In their streets they gird themselves with sackcloth. On their housetops and in their broad places, everyone wails, weeping abundantly.

³⁰ Waste silver, men will call them, because Jehovah has rejected them.

¹⁷ Jehovah of hosts says thus, Consider and call for the mourning women, that they may come and send for the skillful women, that they may come. ¹⁸ And let them make haste and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears and our eyelids gush out with waters. ¹⁹ For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion, How we are ruined! We are greatly confounded, because we have forsaken the land, because they have cast down our dwellings.
²⁰ Yet hear the word of Jehovah, O you* women and let your* ear receive the word of his mouth and teach your* daughters wailing and each one her neighbor lamentation.
²¹ For death has come up into our windows. It has entered into our palaces, to cut off the sons from outside, the young men from the streets.

⁶ Both great and small will die in this land. They will not be buried, nor will men lament for them, nor cut themselves, nor make themselves bald for them,

⁵ Baldness has come upon Gaza. Ashkelon is brought to nothing, the remnant of their valley. How long will you cut yourself?

³⁷ For every head is bald and every beard clipped. Upon all the hands are cuttings and upon the loins sackcloth.

¹ Moreover, take up a lamentation for the rulers of Israel,

¹² Son of man, take up a lamentation over the king of Tyre and say to him, The lord Jehovah says thus: You seal up the sum, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.

¹⁶ You make yourself bald and cut off your hair for the sons of your delight. Enlarge your baldness as the vulture, for they have gone into captivity from you.

⁸ And I cut off the three shepherds in one month, for my soul was weary of them and their soul also loathed me. ⁹ Then I said, I will not feed you*. What dies, let it die and what is to be cut off, let it be cut off and let those who are left eat each one the flesh of another.

⁷ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his immersion, he said to them, Offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the future wrath?

³⁹ But he answered and said to them, An evil and adulterous generation is seeking after a sign, and a sign will not be given to it except the sign of Jonah the prophet;

⁴ An evil and adulterous generation is seeking after a sign, and no sign will be given to it, except the sign of Jonah the prophet. And he left them and went away.

³⁶ Assuredly I am saying to you, All these things will be coming upon this generation.

⁴⁰ Now he was thoroughly testifying and encouraging them with many other words, saying, Save yourselves from this crooked generation.

⁷ And he set the graven image of Asherah, that he had made, in the house of which Jehovah said to David and to Solomon his son, In this house and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my name forever.

⁴ And the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest and the priests of the second order and the keepers of the threshold, to bring forth out of the temple of Jehovah all the vessels that were made for Baal and for the Asherah and for all the host of heaven and he burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of the Kidron and carried the ashes of them to Bethel.
⁵ And he put down the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had given to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah and in the places all around Jerusalem; those also who burned incense to Baal, to the sun and to the moon and to the planets and to all the host of heaven.
⁶ And he brought out the Asherah from the house of Jehovah, outside Jerusalem, to the brook Kidron and burned it at the brook Kidron and beat it to dust and cast the dust of it upon the graves of the common people.

¹² And the altars that were on the roof of the upper chamber of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made and the altars which Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of Jehovah, the king broke down and beat them down from there and cast the dust of them into the brook Kidron.

⁴ And he built altars in the house of Jehovah, of which Jehovah said, In Jerusalem will my name be everlasting. ⁵ And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of Jehovah.

¹⁵ And he took away the foreign gods and the idol out of the house of Jehovah and all the altars that he had built in the mountain of the house of Jehovah and in Jerusalem and cast them out of the city.

¹¹ For both prophet and priest are profane. Yes, in my house I have found their wickedness, says Jehovah.

²⁰ As for the beauty of his ornament, he set it in majesty, but they made the images of their abominations and their detestable things in it. Therefore I have made it as an unclean thing to them.

⁵ Then he said to me, Son of man, lift up your eyes now the way toward the north. So I lifted up my eyes the way toward the north, and behold, northward of the gate of the altar was this image of jealousy in the entry.
⁶ And he said to me, Son of man, see what they do, even the great abominations that the house of Israel commit here, that I should go far off from my sanctuary? But you will again see yet other great abominations.
⁷ And he brought me to the door of the court. And when I looked, behold, a hole in the wall. ⁸ Then he said to me, Son of man, dig now in the wall. And when I had dug in the wall, behold, a door. ⁹ And he said to me, Go in and see the wicked abominations that they do here.
¹⁰ So I went in and saw, and behold, every form of creeping things and abominable beasts and all the idols of the house of Israel, portrayed upon the wall all around.
¹¹ And there stood before them seventy men of the elders of the house of Israel. And in the midst of them stood Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan, each man with his censer in his hand and the odor of the cloud of incense went up. ¹² Then he said to me, Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel do in the dark, each man in his chambers of imagery? For they say, Jehovah does not see us. Jehovah has forsaken the land.
¹³ He also said to me, You will again see yet other great abominations which they do.
¹⁴ Then he brought me to the door of the gate of Jehovah's house which was toward the north. And behold, there sat the women weeping for Tammuz. ¹⁵ Then he said to me, Have you seen this, O son of man? You will again see yet greater abominations than these.
¹⁶ And he brought me into the inner court of Jehovah's house. And behold, at the door of the temple of Jehovah, between the porch and the altar, were about twenty-five men with their backs toward the temple of Jehovah and their faces toward the east and they were worshiping the sun toward the east.
¹⁷ Then he said to me, Have you seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? For they have filled the land with violence and have turned again to provoke me to anger. And behold, they put the branch to their nose.

⁷ And he said to me, Son of man, this is the place of my throne and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the sons of Israel everlasting. And the house of Israel will no more defile my holy name, neither they, nor their kings, by their prostitution and by the dead bodies of their kings in their high places, ⁸ in their setting of their threshold by my threshold and their door-post beside my door-post and there was but the wall between me and them. And they have defiled my holy name by their abominations which they have committed. Therefore I have consumed them in my anger.

²⁷ And he will make a firm covenant with many for one week. And in the midst of the week he will cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease. And upon the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate. And even to the full end and that determined, wrath will be poured out upon the desolate.

²¹ And you will not give any of your seed to make them pass through the fire to Molech, neither will you profane the name of your God. I am Jehovah.

¹ And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, ² Moreover, you will say to the sons of Israel, Whoever he is of the sons of Israel, or of the strangers that journey in Israel, who gives of his seed to Molech, he will surely be put to death. The people of the land will stone him with stones. ³ I also will set my face against that man and will cut him off from among his people, because he has given of his seed to Molech, to defile my sanctuary and to profane my holy name. ⁴ And if the people at the land do at all hide their eyes from that man, when he gives of his seed to Molech and do not put him to death, ⁵ then I will set my face against that man and against his family and will cut him off and all who play the prostitute after him, to play the prostitute with Molech, from among their people.

³¹ You will not do so to Jehovah your God. For every abomination to Jehovah, which he hates, they have done to their gods, for they even burn their sons and their daughters in the fire to their gods.

³ and has gone and served other gods and worshiped them, or the sun, or the moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded,

⁸ and the border went up by the valley of the son of Hinnom to the side of the Jebusite southward (what is Jerusalem) and the border went up to the top of the mountain that lies before the valley of Hinnom westward, which is at the outermost part of the vale of Rephaim northward,

¹⁷ And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire and used divination and enchantments and sold themselves to do what was evil in the sight of Jehovah to provoke him to anger.

¹⁰ And he defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of the sons of Hinnom, that no man might make his son or his daughter to pass through the fire to Molech.

²⁰ And he killed all the priests of the high places that were there, upon the altars and burned men's bones upon them. And he returned to Jerusalem.

³ Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom and burnt his sons in the fire, according to the abominations of the nations whom Jehovah cast out before the sons of Israel.

⁶ He also made his sons to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom. And he practiced soothsaying and used enchantments and practiced sorcery and dealt with psychics and with wizards. He worked much evil in the sight of Jehovah, to provoke him to anger.

³⁷ Yes, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons, ³⁸ and shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan. And the land was polluted with blood.

² and go forth to the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the Earthen Vessels Gate and proclaim there the words that I will tell you.

⁵ and have built the high places of Baal, to burn their sons in the fire for burnt offerings to Baal, which I commanded not, nor spoke it, neither did it come into my mind, ⁶ therefore behold, the days come, says Jehovah, that this place will no more be called Topheth, nor the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of Slaughter.

³⁵ And they built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire to Molech, which I did not command them, nor did it come into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.

²⁰ Moreover you have taken your sons and your daughters, whom you have borne to me and you have sacrificed these to them to be devoured. Were your prostitutions a small matter,

³⁰ And I will destroy your* high places and cut down your* sun-images and cast your* dead bodies upon the bodies of your* idols and my soul will abhor you*.

³¹ And they have built the high places of Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, which I did not command, nor did it come into my mind.

⁶ therefore behold, the days come, says Jehovah, that this place will no more be called Topheth, nor the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of Slaughter.

¹¹ and will say to them, Jehovah of hosts says thus: Even so I will break this people and this city, as a potter's vessel is broken, that cannot be made whole again. And they will bury in Topheth till there is no place to bury.

⁵ And I will lay the dead bodies of the sons of Israel before their idols and I will scatter your* bones all around your* altars.
⁶ In all your* dwelling places the cities will be laid waste and the high places will be desolate, that your* altars may be laid waste and made desolate and your* idols may be broken and cease and your* sun-images may be hewn down and your* works may be abolished. ⁷ And the slain will fall in the midst of you*.
And you* will know that I am Jehovah.

²⁶ And your dead body will be food to all birds of the sky and to the beasts of the earth and there will be none to frighten them away.

² They have given the dead bodies of your servants to be food to the birds of the heavens, the flesh of your holy ones to the beasts of the earth. ³ They have shed their blood like water all around Jerusalem and there was none to bury them.

¹ At that time, says Jehovah, they will bring out the bones of the kings of Judah and the bones of his rulers and the bones of the priests and the bones of the prophets and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, out of their graves.
² And they will spread them before the sun and the moon and all the host of heaven, which they have loved and which they have served and after which they have walked and which they have sought and which they have worshiped. They will not be gathered, nor be buried. They will be for manure upon the face of the earth.

²² Speak, Jehovah says thus: The dead bodies of men will fall as manure upon the open field and as the handful after the harvestman and none will gather.

⁹ Is my heritage to me as a speckled bird of prey? Are the birds of prey against her all around? Go you*, assemble all the beasts of the field; bring them to devour.

⁴ They will die grievous deaths. They will not be lamented, nor will they be buried; they will be as manure upon the face of the ground. And they will be consumed by the sword and by famine. And their dead bodies will be food for the birds of the heavens and for the beasts of the earth.

⁷ And I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place. And I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies and by the hand of those who seek their life. And I will give their dead bodies to be food for the birds of the heavens and for the beasts of the earth.

¹⁹ He will be buried with the burial of a donkey, drawn and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem.

³³ And the slain of Jehovah will be at that day from one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth. They will not be lamented, nor gathered, nor buried; they will be manure upon the face of the ground.

²⁰ I will even give them into the hand of their enemies and into the hand of those who seek their life. And their dead bodies will be for food to the birds of the heavens and to the beasts of the earth.

⁴ You will fall upon the mountains of Israel, you and all your hordes and the peoples who are with you. I will give you to the ravenous birds of every sort and to the beasts of the field to be devoured.

¹⁸ You* will eat the flesh of the mighty and drink the blood of the rulers of the earth, of rams, of lambs and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatten sheep of Bashan. ¹⁹ And you* will eat fat till you* are full and drink blood till you* are drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you*. ²⁰ And you* will be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men and with all men of war, says the lord Jehovah.

¹⁷ And I saw a messenger standing in the sun, and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in mid-heaven, Come-here. Be gathered together to the great supper of God; ¹⁸ in order that you may eat the flesh of kings and the flesh of commanders and the flesh of mighty men and the flesh of horses and of those who sit upon them and the flesh of all men, both free men and bondservants and both the little and the great.

³³ And I will scatter you* among the nations and I will draw out the sword after you* and your* land will be a desolation and your* cities will be a waste.

⁷ Your* country is desolate. Your* cities are burned with fire. Your* land–strangers devour it in your* presence and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers.

²⁶ And her gates will lament and mourn and she will be desolate and sit upon the ground.

¹¹ Then I said, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until cities be waste without inhabitant and houses without man and the land become utterly waste,

⁷ The new wine mourns. The vine languishes. All the merry-hearted do sigh. ⁸ The joy of tambourine ceases. The noise of those who rejoice ends. The joy of the harp ceases.

²⁷ For Jehovah says thus: The whole land will be a desolation, yet I will not make a full end.

⁹ For Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel: Behold, I will cause to cease out of this place, before your* eyes and in your* days, the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride.

¹⁰ Moreover I will take from them the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones and the light of the lamp.

¹⁰ Jehovah says thus: Yet again there will be heard in this place–of which you* say, It is waste, without man and without beast, even in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, that are desolate, without man and without inhabitant and without beast–

¹³ And I will cause the roar of your songs to cease and the sound of your harps will no more be heard.

¹¹ I will also cause all her joy to cease, her feasts, her new moons and her Sabbaths and all her solemn assemblies.

¹³ Yet the land will be desolate because of those who dwell in it, for the fruit of their practices.

²³ and the light of a lamp may never appear in you anymore, and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride may never be heard in you anymore. Your merchants were the great-men of the earth, because all the nations were misled in your sorcery.
