¹ Then Job answered and said, ² No doubt but you* are the people and wisdom will die with you*. ³ But I have understanding as well as you*; I am not inferior to you*. Yes, who does not know such things as these?
⁴ I am as a man who is a laughing-stock to his neighbor. I who called upon God and he answered. The just, the perfect man is a laughing-stock.
⁵ In the thought of him who is at ease there is contempt for calamity. It is ready for those whose foot slips.
⁶ The tents of robbers prosper and those who provoke God are secure. Into whose hand God brings abundantly.
⁷ But ask now the beasts and they will teach you and the birds of the heavens and they will tell you. ⁸ Or speak to the earth and it will teach you and the fishes of the sea will declare to you. ⁹ Who does not know in all these, that the hand of Jehovah has worked this, ¹⁰ in whose hand is the soul of every living thing and the breath of all mankind?
¹¹ Does not the ear try words, even as the palate tastes its food? ¹² With aged men is wisdom and in length of days understanding. ¹³ With God is wisdom and might. He has counsel and understanding.
¹⁴ Behold, he breaks down and it cannot be built again. He shuts up a man and there can be no opening. ¹⁵ Behold, he withholds the waters and they dry up. Again, he sends them out and they overturn the earth.
¹⁶ With him is strength and wisdom. The deceived and the deceiver are his. ¹⁷ He leads counselors away stripped and he makes judges fools. ¹⁸ He loosens the bond of kings and he binds their loins with a belt. ¹⁹ He leads priests away stripped and overthrows the mighty. ²⁰ He removes the speech of the trustworthy and takes away the understanding of the elders. ²¹ He pours contempt upon rulers and weakens the strength of the strong. ²² He uncovers deep things out of darkness and brings out to light the shadow of death. ²³ He increases the nations and he destroys them. He enlarges the nations and he leads them captive.
²⁴ He takes away understanding from the chiefs of the people of the earth and makes them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way. ²⁵ They grope in the dark without light and he makes them to wander around like a drunken man.

²⁴ Teach me and I will be quiet. And cause me to understand how I have erred. ²⁵ How forcible are words of uprightness! But your* reproof, what does it reprove?

⁸ Because I beseech you, inquire of the former age and apply yourself to what their fathers have searched out ⁹ (for we are but of yesterday and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow). ¹⁰ Shall they not teach you and tell you and utter words out of their heart?

² Should not the multitude of words be answered? And should a man full of talk be justified?

⁶ and that he would show you the secrets of wisdom! For he is great in understanding. Know therefore that God exacts of you less than your iniquity deserves.

¹² But vain man is void of understanding. Yes, man is born as a wild donkey's colt.

² Should a wise man make answer with vain knowledge and fill himself with the east wind?

⁴ For you have hid their heart from understanding. Therefore you will not exalt them.

¹⁰ But as for you* all, come on now again and I will not find a wise man among you*.

³ I have heard the reproof which puts me to shame and the spirit of my understanding answers me.

⁷ I said, Days should speak and multitude of years should teach wisdom. ⁸ But there is a spirit in man and the breath of the Almighty gives them understanding. ⁹ It is not the great who are wise, nor the aged who understand justice.
¹⁰ Therefore I said, Listen to me, I also will show my opinion. ¹¹ Behold, I waited for your* words, I listened for your* reasonings, while you* searched out what to say. ¹² Yes, I attended to you*. And behold, there was none who convinced Job, or who answered his words among you*.
¹³ Beware lest you* say, We have found wisdom. God may vanquish him, not man.

¹¹ The rich man is wise in his own conceit, but a poor man who has understanding searches him out.

²¹ Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and prudent in their own sight!

¹⁰ We are foolish because of Christ, but you are prudent in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are glorious, but we are dishonored.

⁵ I am saying this to shame you. So is there not one wise person among you? Not even one who will be able to judge between his brethren? ⁶ Can what has no savor be eaten without salt? Or is there any taste in the white of an egg? ⁷ My soul refuses to touch them. They are as loathsome food to me.

² What you* know, I also know; I am not inferior to you*.
³ Surely I would speak to the Almighty and I desire to reason with God.
⁴ But you* are forgers of lies. You* are all physicians of no value. ⁵ O that you* would altogether be silent! And it would be your* wisdom.

² How you have helped him who is without power! How you have saved the arm that has no strength! ³ How you have counseled him who has no wisdom and plentifully declared sound-knowledge!
⁴ Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you also be like to him.

⁵ For I reason to have come-short in nothing compared to the preeminent apostles.

²¹ I speak according to our dishonor, as though we were weak. But in whatever anyone may be daring (I speak in foolishness), I am also daring. ²² Are they Hebrews? I also. Are they Israelites? I also. Are they the seed of Abraham? I also. ²³ Are they servants of Christ? (I speak, as if having insanity) I am beyond them : in labors even-more, in lashes surpassingly, in prisons even-more, in deaths often.

²⁹ Return, I beseech you*, let there be no injustice. Yes, return again, my cause is righteous.

³ Should your boastings make men hold their peace? And when you mock, will no man make you ashamed?

¹⁰ They have opened wide their mouth upon me. They have struck me upon the cheek reproachfully. They gather themselves together against me.

²⁰ My friends scoff at me. My eye pours out tears to God

² Surely there are mockers with me and my eye dwells upon their provocation.

⁶ But he has made me a parable of the people and they spit in my face.

³ Allow me and I also will speak and after I have spoken, mock on.

¹ But now, those who are younger than I mock me, whose fathers I disdained to set with the dogs of my flock.

⁷ All those who see me laugh me to scorn. They shoot out the lip. They shake the head, saying, ⁸ He trusted on Jehovah. Let him deliver him. Let him rescue him, because he delights in him.

¹⁶ Like the profane mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth.

¹⁵ He will call upon me and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him and honor him.

² He who walks in his uprightness fears Jehovah, but he who is perverse in his ways despises him.

³ Call to me and I will answer you and will show you great things and difficult, which you do not know.

⁷ But as for me, I will look to Jehovah. I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me.

²⁹ And they braided a crown from thorns and placed it upon his head and a reed upon his right hand, and they knelt down before him and were mocking him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!

⁴⁰ And they were laughing at him. But having cast them all out, he takes the father of the child and her mother and those with him and he traveled into where the child was reclining.

¹⁴ Now the Pharisees, who are money-lovers, were also hearing all these things, and they were ridiculing him.

³² Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some were sneering, but some said, We will hear you concerning this again.

³⁶ and others received a trial from mocking and scourges, but still more, from bonds and prison:

³⁵ Vengeance is for me and recompense at the time when their foot will slip. For the day of their calamity is at hand and the things that are to come upon them will make haste.

⁵ Does the wild donkey bray when he has grass? Or the ox moo over his fodder?

⁴ I also could speak as you* do, if your* soul were in my soul's stead. I could join words together against you* and shake my head at you*.

⁵ Yes, the light of the wicked will be put out and the spark of his fire will not shine.

⁵ My steps have held fast to your paths. My feet have not slipped.

¹⁸ When I said, My foot slips, your loving kindness, O Jehovah, held me up.

³ Have mercy upon us, O Jehovah, have mercy upon us, because we are exceedingly filled with contempt. ⁴ Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scoffing of those who are at ease and with the contempt of the proud.

⁹ The light of the righteous rejoices, but the lamp of the wicked will be put out.

²⁰ He who curses his father or his mother, his lamp will be put out in blackness of darkness.

¹⁶ Give glory to Jehovah your* God, before he causes darkness and before your* feet stumble upon the dark mountains. And while you* look for light, he turns it into the shadow of death and makes it gross darkness.

¹ Woe to those who are at ease in Zion and to those who are secure in the mountain of Samaria, the notable men of the chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel come! ² Pass to Calneh and see and from there go to Hamath the great, then go down to Gath of the Philistines. Are they better than these kingdoms? Or is their border greater than your* border?
³ You* who put far away the evil day and cause the seat of violence to come near, ⁴ who lie upon beds of ivory and stretch themselves upon their couches and eat the lambs out of the flock and the calves out of the midst of the stall, ⁵ who scatter-words to the mouth of the harp, who invent for themselves instruments of music, like David, ⁶ who drink wine in bowls and anoint themselves with the chief oils, but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

⁸ Now the foolish said to the prudent, Give us some oil from your oil, because our lamps are quenched.

¹⁹ And I will be saying to my soul, Soul, you have many good things laid up for many years; rest yourself, eat, drink, and be joyous.

¹⁹ Now there was a certain rich man and he was clothing himself in purple and fine-linen, having been radiantly joyous daily. ²⁰ Now there was a certain poor man, Lazarus by name, who had been put at his gate, having been full of sores,

²⁴ The earth is given into the hand of the wicked. He covers the faces of the judges of it. If not he, who then is it?

⁷ Why do the wicked live, become old, yes, grow mighty in power? ⁸ Their seed is established with them in their sight and their offspring before their eyes. ⁹ Their houses are safe from fear, nor is the rod of God upon them. ¹⁰ Their bull breeds and does not fail. Their cow brings forth safely and does not miscarry. ¹¹ They send forth their little ones like a flock and their children dance. ¹² They sing to the timbrel and harp and rejoice at the sound of the pipe.
¹³ They spend their days in prosperity and in a moment they go down to Sheol.
¹⁴ And they say to God, Depart from us, for we do not desire the knowledge of your ways. ¹⁵ What is the Almighty that we should serve him? And what profit should we have, if we pray to him?

¹⁸ Yet he filled their houses with good things. But the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

¹⁴ from men by your hand, O Jehovah, from men of the world whose portion is in this life and whose belly you fill with your treasure. They are satisfied with sons and leave the rest of their substance to their babes.

¹ Do not inflame yourself because of evildoers, nor be envious against those who work unrighteousness.

³⁵ I have seen a wicked man in great power and spreading himself like a green tree in its native soil.

¹¹ And they say, How does God know? And is there knowledge in the Most High?
¹² Behold, these are the wicked and those who prosper of old. They have possessed wealth.

²⁷ As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit. Therefore they have become great and grown rich.

²⁹ Have you* not asked wayfaring men? And do you* not know their evidences, ³⁰ that the evil man is reserved to the day of calamity? That they are led forth to the day of wrath?

⁶ Go to the ant, you sluggard. Consider her ways and be wise.

³ The ox knows his owner and the donkey his master's crib, but Israel does not know; my people does not consider.

⁷ Yes, the stork in the heavens knows her appointed times and the turtledove and the swallow and the crane observe the time of their coming, but my people do not know the law of Jehovah.

¹⁷ And lest you say in your heart, My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth. ¹⁸ But you will remember Jehovah your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he swore to your fathers, as at this day.

⁷ Jehovah makes poor and makes rich. He brings low, he also lifts up.

³ But I have understanding as well as you*; I am not inferior to you*. Yes, who does not know such things as these?

²⁰ that they may see and know and consider and understand together, that the hand of Jehovah has done this and the Holy One of Israel has created it.

⁵ I have made the earth, the men and the beasts that are upon the face of the earth, by my great power and by my outstretched arm and I give it to whom it seems right to me.
⁶ And now I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant. And the beasts of the field I have also given him to serve him.

¹⁸ O you king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father the kingdom and greatness and glory and majesty.

¹⁷ Now therefore, O our God, listen to the prayer of your servant and to his supplications and cause your face to shine upon your sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord's sake.

³⁵ But having the composure of the crowd, the town scribe says, Men of Ephesus, for what man is there who does not know that the city of the Ephesians is temple-keeper of the great goddess Artemis and of the fallen image from Zeus?

³⁶ It is because all things are from him and through him and to him. The glory is for him, forever. Amen.

⁵ Listen, my beloved brethren. Did God not choose the poor of the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which he promised to those who love him? ⁶ But you have dishonored the poor. Are the rich not oppressing you? And are they themselves not dragging you into the courts? ⁷ Are they not blaspheming the good name, the one which was surnamed upon you?

⁷ And Jehovah God formed man out of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul.

¹⁷ And I, behold, I bring the flood of waters upon this earth, to destroy all flesh, in which is the breath of life, from under heaven. Everything that is on the earth will die.

²² And they fell upon their faces and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, will one man sin and will you be angry with all the congregation?

³ (For my life is yet whole in me. And the spirit of God is in my nostrils.)

⁴ The Spirit of God has made me and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

¹⁴ If he sets his heart upon himself, if he gathers his spirit and his breath to himself, ¹⁵ all flesh will perish together and man will turn again to dust.

²⁹ You hide your face, they are troubled. You take away their breath, they die and return to their dust.

³ Do not put your* trust in rulers, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. ⁴ His breath goes forth, he returns to his earth. His thoughts perish in that very day.

²³ but have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven. And they have brought the vessels of his house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of brass, iron, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor know. And the God in whose hand your breath is and whose are all your ways, you have not glorified.

⁶ What has been born out of the flesh is flesh, and what has been born out of the Spirit is spirit.

²⁵ nor is he assisted by men’s hands, as if needy of anything, he is giving to all, life and breath in all things.

²⁸ For we live and move and are in him; as some also, according to your own poets, have said, For we are also his offspring.

³⁰ Is there injustice on my tongue? Cannot my taste discern mischievous things?

³ For the ear tries words as the palate tastes food.

¹⁵ I speak as to prudent men. You, judge what I say.

¹⁰ that you may approve the things which are carrying more-value; in order that you may be sincere and guilt-free in the day of Christ;

¹⁴ But solid nourishment is for the mature ones, from those who, through their habit, have had their senses exercised to the discerning of both good and evil.

³ if indeed, you have tasted it, that the Lord is kind;

⁸ Because I beseech you, inquire of the former age and apply yourself to what their fathers have searched out

¹⁰ With us are both the gray-headed and the very aged men, much older than your father.

⁷ I said, Days should speak and multitude of years should teach wisdom.

⁴ He is wise in heart and mighty in strength. Who has hardened himself against him and prospered?

¹⁶ With him is strength and wisdom. The deceived and the deceiver are his.

²⁰ Where then does wisdom come from? And where is the place of understanding?
²¹ Since it is hid from the eyes of all living and kept closed from the birds of the heavens. ²² Destruction and Death say, We have heard a rumor of it with our ears.
²³ God understands the way of it and he knows the place of it. ²⁴ For he looks to the ends of the earth and sees under the whole heaven, ²⁵ to make a weight for the wind. Yes, he distributes the waters by measure. ²⁶ When he made a decree for the rain and a way for the lightning of the thunder, ²⁷ then he saw it and declared it. He established it, yes and searched it out.
²⁸ And to man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom and to depart from evil is understanding.

⁶ And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young and you* are very old. Therefore I held back and dared not show you* my opinion.
⁷ I said, Days should speak and multitude of years should teach wisdom. ⁸ But there is a spirit in man and the breath of the Almighty gives them understanding. ⁹ It is not the great who are wise, nor the aged who understand justice.

⁵ Behold, God is mighty and does not despise. He is mighty in strength of understanding.

³⁶ Who has put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who has given understanding to the mind?

⁵ Great is our Lord and mighty in power. His understanding is infinite.

⁶ Because Jehovah gives wisdom. Out of his mouth is knowledge and understanding. ⁷ He lays up sound-wisdom for the upright, a shield to those who walk in integrity,

¹⁴ Counsel is mine and sound-wisdom. I am understanding; I have might.

¹³ Who has known the mind of Jehovah, or being his counselor has taught him? ¹⁴ He took counsel with whom. And who instructed him and taught him in the path of justice. And taught him knowledge and showed to him the way of understanding?

¹⁰ declaring the end from the beginning and from long-ago things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel will stand and I will do all my pleasure,

¹² He has made the earth by his power. He has established the world by his wisdom and by his understanding he has stretched out the heavens.

²⁰ Daniel answered and said, Praise the name of God forever and ever, for wisdom and might are his.

¹⁵ For I will be giving you a mouth and wisdom, which all who lay in opposition to you will not be able to stand against, nor to speak against.

³⁴ For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has become his counselor?

²⁴ but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.

⁸ The grace which he made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence,

¹¹ In him in whom, we were also made an inheritance, having been predetermined according to the purpose of the one who is working all things after the plan of his will.

³ in whom all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden.

⁵ But if anyone of you is deficient of wisdom, let him ask from God, who gives to all liberally and does not reproach any, and it will be given to him.

⁴⁶ This day Jehovah will deliver you into my hand and I will kill* you and take your head from you. And I will give the dead bodies of the armies of the Philistines this day to the birds of the heavens and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel,

¹⁸ And you have declared this day how that you have dealt well with me, inasmuch as when Jehovah had delivered me up into your hand, you killed me not.

⁸ Then said Abishai to David, God has delivered up your enemy into your hand this day. Now therefore, I beseech you, let me kill* him with the spear to the earth at one stroke and I will not kill* him the second time.

¹² Behold, he seizes; who can hinder him? Who will say to him, What are you doing? ¹³ God will not withdraw his anger. The helpers of Rahab stoop under him.

¹⁰ If he passes through and shuts up and all to judgment, then who can hinder him?

¹¹ God delivers me to the perverse and casts me into the hands of the wicked.

¹⁰ He has broken me down on every side and I have gone. And he has plucked up my hope like a tree.

⁷ He seals up the hand of every man, that all men whom he has made may know it.

²³ I will also make it a possession for the porcupine and pools of water. And I will sweep it with the broom of destruction, says Jehovah of hosts.

²² And I will lay the key of the house of David upon his shoulder and he will open and none will shut and he will shut and none will open.

² For you have made of a city a heap, of a fortified city a ruin, a palace of strangers to be no city. It will not be built everlasting.

⁵⁸ Jehovah of hosts says thus: The broad walls of Babylon will be utterly overthrown and her high gates will be burned with fire. And the peoples will labor for vanity and the nations for the fire and they will be weary.

⁶⁴ And you will say, Thus Babylon will sink and will not rise again because of the evil that I will bring upon her and they will be weary. Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.

⁴ If Edom says, We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places, Jehovah of hosts says thus: They will build, but I will throw down and men will call them the border of wickedness and the people against whom Jehovah has indignation everlasting.

³² For God has locked up together all to disobedience, in order that he might show-mercy upon all.

⁷ And write to the messenger of the congregation in Philadelphia:
He (the holy one, the true one, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will lock, except he who opens and no one will open) says these things:

¹³ And God said to Noah, The end of all flesh has come before me, because the earth is filled with violence through them and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

¹¹ In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on the same day all the fountains of the great deep were broken up and the windows of heaven were opened.

¹⁷ and the anger of Jehovah be kindled against you* and he shut up the heavens, so that there will be no rain and the land will not yield its fruit and you* perish quickly from the good land which Jehovah gives you*.

³⁵ When heaven is shut up and there is no rain because they have sinned against you, if they pray toward this place and confess your name and turn from their sin when you afflict them, ³⁶ then hear you in heaven and forgive the sin of your servants and of your people Israel, when you teach them the good way in which they should walk and send rain upon your land, which you have given to your people for an inheritance.

¹ And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the travelers of Gilead, said to Ahab, As Jehovah, the God of Israel, lives, before whom I stand, there will not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

¹⁰ in whose hand is the soul of every living thing and the breath of all mankind?

⁷ At your rebuke they fled. At the voice of your thunder they hastened away.
⁸ The mountains rose, the valleys sank down to the place which you had founded for them. ⁹ You have set a bound that they may not pass over, that they do not turn again to cover the earth.

²² Are there any among the vanities of the nations that can cause rain? Or can the heavens give showers? Are not you he, O Jehovah our God? Therefore we will wait for you, for you have made all these things.

⁸ seek he who makes the Pleiades and Orion and turns the shadow of death into the morning and makes the day dark with night, who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out upon the face of the earth (Jehovah is his name),

⁴ He rebukes the sea and makes it dry and dries up all the rivers. Bashan languishes and Carmel and the flower of Lebanon languishes.

²⁵ But in truth I say to you, There were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was locked for three years and six months, as such there became a large famine over all the land;

¹⁷ Elijah was a man of like-feelings to us and he prayed with much prayer that it might not rain, and it did not rain upon the land for three years and six months. ¹⁸ And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rainfall and the land sprouted her fruit.

⁶ These have the authority to lock the heaven, in order that no rainfall may rain on the days of their prophecy and they have authority over the waters to turn them into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of wound, whenever they will it.

²² And Jehovah said to him, With what? And he said, I will go forth and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, You will entice him and will also prevail. Go forth and do so. ²³ Now therefore, behold, Jehovah has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets and Jehovah has spoken evil concerning you.

¹³ With God is wisdom and might. He has counsel and understanding.

⁷ Will you* speak unrighteously for God and talk deceitfully for him?

⁹ Is it good that he should search you* out? Or as deceiving a man, will you* deceive him?

⁹ And if the prophet is deceived and speaks a word, I, Jehovah, have deceived that prophet. And I will stretch out my hand upon him and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.

¹³ And do not bring us into temptation, but rescue us from the evil one, because yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

³¹ And it was told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O Jehovah, I beseech you, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.

¹⁴ And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For Jehovah had commanded to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that Jehovah might bring evil upon Absalom.

²³ And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his donkey and arose and got home to his city and set his house in order and hanged himself. And he died and was buried in the sepulcher of his father.

¹⁴ with kings and counselors of the earth, who built waste places for themselves,

¹² Where then are your wise men? And let them tell you now and let them know what Jehovah of hosts has purposed concerning Egypt. ¹³ The rulers of Zoan have become fools. The rulers of Memphis are deceived. They have caused Egypt to go-astray, the chief of her tribes.
¹⁴ Jehovah has mingled a spirit of perverseness in the midst of her and they have made Egypt go-astray in every work of it, as a drunken man wanders around in his vomit.

¹⁴ Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvelous work among this people, even a marvelous work and a wonder. I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and the understanding of their prudent men will be hidden.

¹⁹ For it has been written, ‘I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and I will reject the understanding of the intelligent ones.’ ²⁰ Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has God not made the wisdom of the world foolish?

¹¹ Therefore Jehovah brought upon them the captains of the army of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh in chains and bound him with fetters and carried him to Babylon.
¹² And when he was in distress, he besought Jehovah his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers. ¹³ And he prayed to him. And he was entreated of him and heard his supplication and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that Jehovah he was God.
¹⁴ Now after this he built an outer wall to the city of David, on the west side of Gihon, in the valley, even to the entrance at the fish gate. And he encompassed Ophel around with it and raised it up to a very great height. And he put valiant captains in all the fortified cities of Judah.

¹⁶ O Jehovah, truly I am your servant. I am your servant, the son of your handmaid. You have loosed my bonds.

³¹ And it happened in the thirty-seventh year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, in the twenty-fifth day of the month, that Evil-merodach king of Babylon, in the first year of his reign, lifted up the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah and brought him forth out of prison.
³² And he spoke kindly to him and set his throne above the throne of the kings who were with him in Babylon, ³³ and changed his prison garments. And he ate bread before him continually all the days of his life. ³⁴ And for his allowance, there was a continual allowance given him by the king of Babylon, every day a portion until the day of his death, all the days of his life.

²¹ And he changes the times and the seasons. He removes kings and sets up kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.

¹⁶ And he has upon his garment and upon his thigh a name has been written, King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

²⁴ And it happened, when they brought out those kings to Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel and said to the chiefs of the men of war who went with him, Come near, put your* feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near and put their feet upon the necks of them.

⁴² And all these kings and their land Joshua took at one time, because Jehovah, the God of Israel, fought for Israel.

⁴⁵ Then David said to the Philistine, You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of Jehovah of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
⁴⁶ This day Jehovah will deliver you into my hand and I will kill* you and take your head from you. And I will give the dead bodies of the armies of the Philistines this day to the birds of the heavens and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel,

²² Yet God prolongs the mighty by his power. He rises up who has no assurance of life.

²⁸ so that they caused the cry of the poor to come to him and he heard the cry of the afflicted.

⁹ Because of the multitude of oppressions they cry out. They cry for help because of the arm of the mighty.

³⁶ And the messenger of Jehovah went forth and killed* in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and eighty-five thousand. And when men arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies. ³⁷ So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed and went and returned and dwelt at Nineveh.
³⁸ And it happened, as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons killed* him with the sword and they escaped into the land of Ararat. And Esarhaddon his son reigned instead of him.

¹ Jehovah says thus to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have held to subdue nations before him. And I will loose the loins of kings to open the doors before him. And the gates will not be shut.

¹⁴ These will make war with the Lamb and the Lamb will overcome them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those called and chosen and faithful with him.

¹⁹ And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies, have been gathered together to make a war with the one who sits upon the horse and with his army. ²⁰ And the beast was clutched and with him the false prophet who made the signs in his sight, in which he misled those who had received the mark of the beast and those who are worshiping his image. The two were cast while living into the lake of fire which is burning in brimstone. ²¹ And the rest were killed with the long-sword of the one who sits upon the horse, which came forth out of his mouth and all the birds were fed from their flesh.

²⁴ He takes away understanding from the chiefs of the people of the earth and makes them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way.

⁹ It is not the great who are wise, nor the aged who understand justice.

¹⁷ because God has deprived her of wisdom, nor has he imparted understanding to her.

²¹ The lips of a righteous man feeds many, but the foolish die for lack of understanding.

¹⁹ The lips of truth will be established forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment.

²² Lying lips are an abomination to Jehovah, but those who deal truly are his delight.

¹ For, behold, the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, takes away from Jerusalem and from Judah support and staff, the whole support of bread and the whole support of water, ² the mighty man and the man of war, the judge and the prophet and the diviner and the elder, ³ the captain of fifty and the honorable man and the counselor and the expert craftsman and the skillful enchanter.

² And if you refuse to let them go, behold, I will kill* all your borders with frogs.

²⁴ And they laid it up till the morning, as Moses commanded and it did not become foul, neither was there any worm in it.

²³ And Jehovah spoke also of Jezebel, saying, The dogs will eat Jezebel by the rampart of Jezreel. ²⁴ He who dies of Ahab in the city the dogs will eat and he who dies in the field will the birds of the heavens eat.

²⁶ Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons, says Jehovah and I will requite you in this plot, says Jehovah. Now therefore take and cast him into the plot of ground, according to the word of Jehovah.

³⁴ And when he came in, he ate and drank and he said, Now see to this cursed woman and bury her, for she is a king's daughter. ³⁵ And they went to bury her, but they found no more of her than the skull and the feet and the palms of her hands. ³⁶ Therefore they came back and told him. And he said, This is the word of Jehovah, which he spoke by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Jezreel will the dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel, ³⁷ and the body of Jezebel will be as manure upon the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel, so that they will not say, This is Jezebel.

⁴⁰ He pours contempt upon rulers and makes them to wander in the waste, where there is no way.

²⁷ None will be weary nor stumble among them. None will slumber nor sleep, nor will the belt of their loins be loosed, nor the latchet of their shoes be broken,

⁵ And righteousness will be the belt of his waist and faithfulness the belt of his loins.

²¹ And I will clothe him with your robe and strengthen him with your belt. And I will commit your government into his hand and he will be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah.

⁹ Jehovah of hosts has purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory, to bring into contempt all the honorable of the earth.

²¹ And it will happen in that day, that Jehovah will punish the host of the high ones on high and the kings of the earth upon the earth. ²² And they will be gathered together as prisoners are gathered in the pit and will be shut up in the prison. And after many days they will be visited.

³² And you will be driven from men and your dwelling will be with the beasts of the field. You will be made to eat grass as oxen and seven times will pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men and gives it to whomever he will.
³³ The same hour the thing was fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar. And he was driven from men and ate grass as oxen. And his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hair was grown like eagles' feathers and his nails like birds' claws.

¹² And having been divinely-warned in a dream not to revisit Herod, they departed into their own region through another way.


¹³ Now when they had departed, behold, a messenger of the Lord appears to Joseph in a dream, saying, When you arise, take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be there until I should speak to you again, because Herod is about to seek the young child to destroy him.

²³ But instantly a messenger of the Lord struck him, because he did not give God the glory and he expired, having become maggot-eaten.

¹⁰ Furthermore, my brethren, be empowered in the Lord and in the dominion of his strength.

¹⁴ Therefore stand, having girded your loins in truth and having clothed yourselves with the breastplate of righteousness,

¹² And one of his servants said, No, my lord, O king, but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel tells the King of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom.

⁵ Let darkness and the shadow of death claim it for their own. Let a cloud dwell upon it. Let blackness come upon it.

¹⁷ For the morning is to all of them as thick darkness. For they know the terrors of the thick darkness.

²⁰ Where then does wisdom come from? And where is the place of understanding?
²¹ Since it is hid from the eyes of all living and kept closed from the birds of the heavens. ²² Destruction and Death say, We have heard a rumor of it with our ears.
²³ God understands the way of it and he knows the place of it.

²² There is no darkness, nor thick gloom where the workers of wickedness may hide themselves.

²¹ will not God search this out? Because he knows the secrets of the heart.

¹² even the darkness does not hide from you, but the night shines as the day. The darkness and the light are both alike to you.

²² He reveals the deep and secret things. He knows what is in the darkness and the light dwells with him.

²⁶ Therefore do not fear them; for there is nothing hidden, which will not be revealed, and nothing secret, which will not be known.

⁷⁹ to appear upon those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death; to steer our feet into the way of peace.

¹⁰ But God revealed them to us through his Spirit; for the Spirit is searching all things, even the depths of God.

⁵ So-then, do not judge anything before the time, until the Lord should come, who will both be illuminating the hidden things of darkness and will be manifesting the plans of the hearts, and then the praise from God will happen for each.

⁷ And the sons of Israel were fruitful and increased abundantly and multiplied and grew exceedingly mighty and the land was filled with them.

²⁰ And God dealt well with the midwives. And the people multiplied and grew very mighty.

³⁸ He also graces them, so that they are multiplied greatly and he does not allow their cattle to decrease.

³ You have multiplied the nation. You have increased their joy. They joy before you according to the joy in harvest, as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.

¹⁵ You have increased the nation, O Jehovah, you have increased the nation. You are glorified. You have enlarged all the borders of the land.

⁶ In days to come Jacob will take root; Israel will blossom and bud. And they will fill the face of the world with fruit.

² Look to Abraham your* father and to Sarah who bore you*. For when he was but one I called him and I blessed him and made him many.

²² The little one will become a thousand and the small one a strong nation. I, Jehovah, will hasten it in its time.

¹⁹ And out of them will proceed thanksgiving and the voice of those who make merry. And I will multiply them and they will not be few. I will also glorify them and they will not be small.

²² As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured, so I will multiply the seed of David my servant and the Levites that minister to me.

⁸ I will whistle for them and gather them. For I have redeemed them and they will increase as they have increased.

²⁰ He removes the speech of the trustworthy and takes away the understanding of the elders.

⁴ They wandered in the wilderness in a desert way. They found no city of habitation.

⁹ And he said, Go and tell this people, Hear indeed, but do not understand and see you* indeed, but do not perceive. ¹⁰ Make the heart of this people fat and make their ears heavy and shut their eyes, lest they see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn and be healed.

¹ The burden of Egypt. Behold, Jehovah rides upon a swift cloud and comes to Egypt. And the idols of Egypt will tremble at his presence and the heart of Egypt will melt in the midst of it.

¹⁶ Let his heart be changed from man's and let a beast's heart be given to him. And let seven times pass over him.

³³ The same hour the thing was fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar. And he was driven from men and ate grass as oxen. And his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hair was grown like eagles' feathers and his nails like birds' claws.

¹¹ And Ephraim is like a silly dove, without understanding. They call to Egypt. They go to Assyria.

¹¹ And they struck the men who were at the doorway of the house with blindness, both small and great, so that they wearied themselves trying to find the door.

²⁹ and you will grope at noonday, as the blind man gropes in darkness. And you will not prosper in your ways. And you will only be oppressed and robbed always and there will be none to save you.

¹⁴ They meet with darkness in the daytime and grope at noonday as in the night.

²⁷ They reel to and fro and stagger like a drunken man and are at their wits' end.

¹⁴ Jehovah has mingled a spirit of perverseness in the midst of her and they have made Egypt go-astray in every work of it, as a drunken man wanders around in his vomit.

²⁰ The earth will stagger like a drunken man and will sway to and fro like a hammock. And the transgression of it will be heavy upon it and it will fall and not rise again.

¹⁰ We grope for the wall like the blind. Yes, we grope as those who have no eyes. We stumble at noonday as in the twilight. We are as dead men in desolate places.

¹¹ And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and will not see the sun till the next season. Now instantly dimness and darkness fell upon him, and going around, he was seeking someone to lead him by the hand.

¹¹ But he who hates his brother is in the darkness and is walking in the darkness and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
