¹⁵ The lord Jehovah says thus: Because the Philistines have dealt by revenge and have taken vengeance with spite of soul to destroy with everlasting enmity,

⁵ therefore thus says the lord Jehovah: Surely in the fire of my jealousy I have spoken against the residue of the nations and against all Edom, who have appointed my land to themselves for a possession with the joy of all their heart, with spite of soul, to cast it out for a prey.

⁴⁴ But I am saying to you, Love^*\'b0 your enemies, speak well of those who curse you, do good things to those who hate you and pray on behalf of those who are railing at you and are persecuting you.

²⁷ But I am saying to you who hear, Love^*\'b0 your enemies, do good to those who hate you,

³⁵ However, love^*\'b0 your enemies and do good things for them and lend, hoping for nothing again. And your reward will be much, and you will be sons of the Highest, because he is kind toward the unthankful and evil.

³⁴ Now Jesus said, Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.
‘Now they cast a lot, dividing his garments among them.’

¹² and we are laboring, working with our own hands. Being reviled, we are speaking well of them; being persecuted, we are tolerating it;

¹⁰ A thanks and a curse comes out of the same mouth. My brethren, these things do not need to become so!

⁹ not repaying evil in exchange-for evil or reviling in exchange-for reviling, but instead, speaking well of others; knowing that you were called for this, in order that you should inherit a blessing.
