⁵ Then Jerusalem and everyone in Judea and everyone from the region around the Jordan were traveling out to him.

²⁵ And large crowds followed him from Galilee and Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judea and beyond-that of the Jordan.

⁷ Now while these disciples are traveling on, Jesus began to say to the crowds concerning John, What did you come out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? ⁸ But what did you go out to see? A man who has been dressed-up in soft garments? Behold, those who are wearing soft garments are in royal houses. ⁹ But why did you go out? To see a prophet? I say to you, Yes, and one who is more-than a prophet. ¹⁰ For this is he, concerning whom it has been written, ‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will be preparing your way before you.’ ¹¹ Assuredly I am saying to you, A greater man has not arisen among those born from women than John the Immerser. But he who is least in the kingdom of the heavens is greater than he. ¹² But from the days of John the Immerser until now the kingdom of the heavens suffers-violently and the violent ones seize it.

⁵ And all the region of Judea and all those from Jerusalem were traveling out to him, and all were being immersed by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

⁷ Therefore, he was saying to the crowds who traveled out to be immersed by him, Offspring of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the future wrath?

¹⁶ The law and the prophets were until John; from that time the good-news of the kingdom of God is proclaimed, and everyone violently-enters into it.

²³ Now John was also immersing in Aenon near to Salem, because many bodies of water were there, and they were coming and were being immersed.

³⁵ He was that lamp which burns and appears bright, and you were willing to be glad for a season in his light.
