²⁰ But I have this against you, that you are allowing your woman Jezebel, she who calls herself a prophetess, and she who is teaching and misleading my bondservants to fornicate and to eat idol-sacrifices.

¹⁵ Lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land and they play the prostitute after their gods and sacrifice to their gods and a man calls you and you eat of his sacrifice,

¹ And Israel abode in Shittim. And the people began to play the prostitute with the daughters of Moab, ² for they called the people to the sacrifices of their gods. And the people ate and bowed-down to their gods.

³¹ And it happened, as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took a wife, Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians and went and served Baal and worshiped him.

⁴ And it will be, that you will drink of the brook and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.

¹³ And Elijah said to her, Do not fear, go and do as you have said. But make me of it a little cake first and bring it forth to me and afterward make for you and for your son.

¹ And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done and also how he had slain all the prophets with the sword. ² Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.

⁷ And Jezebel his wife said to him, Do you now govern the kingdom of Israel? Arise and eat bread and let your heart be merry. I will give you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.
⁸ So she wrote letters in Ahab's name and sealed them with his seal and sent the letters to the elders and to the nobles who were in his city, and who dwelt with Naboth. ⁹ And she wrote in the letters, saying, Proclaim a fast and set Naboth on high among the people. ¹⁰ And set two men, worthless fellows, before him and let them bear witness against him, saying, You cursed God and the king. And then carry him out and stone him to death.
¹¹ And the men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who dwelt in his city, did as Jezebel had sent to them, just-as it was written in the letters which she had sent to them. ¹² They proclaimed a fast and set Naboth on high among the people.
¹³ And the two men, the worthless fellows, came in and sat before him. And the worthless fellows bore witness against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth cursed God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city and stoned him to death with stones. ¹⁴ Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, Naboth is stoned and is dead.
¹⁵ And it happened, when Jezebel heard that Naboth was stoned and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab, Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give you for money, for Naboth is not alive, but dead.

²³ And Jehovah spoke also of Jezebel, saying, The dogs will eat Jezebel by the rampart of Jezreel. ²⁴ He who dies of Ahab in the city the dogs will eat and he who dies in the field will the birds of the heavens eat. ²⁵ (But there was none like Ahab, who sold himself to do what was evil in the sight of Jehovah, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.

⁷ And you will kill* the house of Ahab your master, that I may avenge the blood of my servants the prophets and the blood of all the servants of Jehovah, at the hand of Jezebel.

³⁰ And when Jehu came to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it. And she painted her eyes and attired her head and looked out at the window. ³¹ And as Jehu entered in at the gate, she said, Is it peace, you Zimri, your master's murderer? ³² And he lifted up his face to the window and said, Who is on my side? Who? And two or three eunuchs looked out to him. ³³ And he said, Throw her down. So they threw her down. And some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall and on the horses. And he trampled her under foot.
³⁴ And when he came in, he ate and drank and he said, Now see to this cursed woman and bury her, for she is a king's daughter. ³⁵ And they went to bury her, but they found no more of her than the skull and the feet and the palms of her hands. ³⁶ Therefore they came back and told him. And he said, This is the word of Jehovah, which he spoke by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Jezreel will the dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel, ³⁷ and the body of Jezebel will be as manure upon the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel, so that they will not say, This is Jezebel.

²⁰ but to inform them by letter: to abstain from the pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from what is strangled, and from blood.

²⁹ that you abstain from idol-sacrifices, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication. Keeping yourselves away from these things; you will be practicing well.

¹⁰ For if anyone sees you, (the one who has knowledge), reclining at a table in an idol’s sanctuary, will not his conscience, being weak, be built up to be eating the idol-sacrifices? ¹¹ And the weak brother will be perishing on the basis of your knowledge, but Christ died because of him. ¹² Now thus, by sinning directly at the brethren and beating their weak conscience, you are sinning directly at Christ.

¹⁸ Beware of Israel, according to the flesh: are not those who eat the sacrifices partners of the altar? ¹⁹ Then what am I saying? That an idol is anything, or that an idol-sacrifice is anything? ²⁰ But I am saying, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they are sacrificing to demons, and not to God, and I do not wish you to become partners of demons.
²¹ You are not able to drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You are not able to partake of the table of the Lord and of the table of demons.

²⁸ But if anyone says to you, This has been an idol-sacrifice, do not eat, because of that man who divulged it and because of conscience; for ‘The earth is the Lord’s and its fullness.’

⁴ But I have this against you; that you left your first love.

¹⁴ But I have a few things against you, because you have there some holding-fast the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to cast an offense in the sight the sons of Israel, even to eat idol-sacrifices and to fornicate.
