⁷ "Yet—I am telling you the truth—my going is for your good. For unless I go away the Comforter will not come to you; but if I depart I will send him unto you.

²⁵ In very truth I tell you there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heavens were closed for three years and six months, when a great famine came over all the land;

²⁷ "But I tell you truly there are some of those standing here who will not taste death till they see the kingdom of God."

⁴⁹ "And I will send forth the promise of my Father upon you. But tarry in Jerusalem until you are clothed with power from on high."

³⁹ Now he said this concerning the Spirit whom those who believed in him should receive. For the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.

⁴⁵ "But as for me, it is because I speak the truth to you that you do not believe me. ⁴⁶ "Which one of you convicts me of sin? Why then, if I am speaking the truth, do you not believe me?

⁵⁰ "You know nothing at all, nor do you consider that it is expedient for you that one man should die for the people, rather than the whole nation be destroyed." ⁵¹ now he did not say this of his own accord; but as high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus was about to die in behalf of the nation, ⁵² and not in behalf of the nation alone, but in order that he might gather into one the widely scattered children of God.

³ I will return and will take you to be with me, so that where I am you may be also.

¹⁶ "and I will pray the Father, and he will give you another Comforter to be with you forever, the Spirit of Truth. ¹⁷ "The world cannot receive him because it does not see him nor know him, but you know him, for he is ever with you and within you.

⁴ And once when he was eating with them he charged them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father. "Of this," he said, "you have heard from me. ⁵ "For John indeed baptized in water, but you shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days hence."

³³ Since he is by the mighty hand of God exalted, and has received from his Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured forth this which you now see and hear.

³⁴ Then Peter began to speak. "Of a truth I begin to see quite plainly that God is no respecter of persons;

²⁸ Now we know that all things continually work together for good to those who love God, to those who have been the called according to his purpose.

¹⁷ For my light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working out for me a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory,

⁸ Thus it is said, When he ascended on high, he led captivity captive and gave gifts to men. ⁹ Now surely this "he ascended" implies that he also descended into the lower part of the earth. ¹⁰ He who descended is he who ascended above the highest heaven, that he might fill the universe. ¹¹ It is he who made some men apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, ¹² in order to equip the saints for the work of serving, for the building up of the Body of Christ— ¹³ till we all come in the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to the maturity of manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ.
