⁵⁷ But the chief priests and Pharisees had given an order that anyone who knew where He was must report it, so that they could arrest Him.

⁴ In return for my love they accuse me, but I am a man of prayer.

¹⁶ Now because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jews began to persecute Him and were seeking to kill Him. ¹⁷ But Jesus answered them, “To this very day My Father is at His work, and I too am working.” ¹⁸ Because of this, the Jews tried all the harder to kill Him. Not only was He breaking the Sabbath, but He was even calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God.

⁵⁹ At this, they picked up stones to throw at Him. But Jesus was hidden and went out of the temple area, going through the midst of them. And so He passed by.

²² His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews. For the Jews had already determined that anyone who confessed Jesus as the Christ would be put out of the synagogue.

³⁹ At this, they tried again to seize Him, but He escaped their grasp.
