¹² Then all the people began to eat and drink, to send out portions, and to rejoice greatly, because they understood the words that had been made known to them.

⁷ The Levites—Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, and Pelaiah—instructed the people in the Law as they stood in their places. ⁸ So they read from the Book of the Law of God, explaining it and giving insight, so that the people could understand what was being read.

¹² I have not departed from the command of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my daily bread.

⁸ The precepts of the LORD are right, bringing joy to the heart; the commandments of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes. ⁹ The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever; the judgments of the LORD are true, being altogether righteous. ¹⁰ They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb. ¹¹ By them indeed Your servant is warned; in keeping them is great reward.

¹⁴ I rejoice in the way of Your testimonies as much as in all riches.

¹⁶ I will delight in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.

⁷² The law from Your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of pieces of gold and silver.

⁹⁷ Oh, how I love Your law! All day long it is my meditation.

¹⁰³ How sweet are Your words to my taste—sweeter than honey in my mouth! ¹⁰⁴ I gain understanding from Your precepts; therefore I hate every false way.

¹¹¹ Your testimonies are my heritage forever, for they are the joy of my heart.

¹²⁷ Therefore I love Your commandments more than gold, even the purest gold.

¹³⁰ The unfolding of Your words gives light; it informs the simple.

¹⁷¹ My lips pour forth praise, for You teach me Your statutes.

¹⁷⁴ I long for Your salvation, O LORD, and Your law is my delight.

¹ A song of ascents. When the LORD restored the captives of Zion, we were like dreamers. ² Then our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with shouts of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.” ³ The LORD has done great things for us; we are filled with joy.

¹⁰ For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will delight your soul. ¹¹ Discretion will watch over you, and understanding will guard you,

¹³ Eat honey, my son, for it is good, and the honeycomb is sweet to your taste. ¹⁴ Know therefore that wisdom is sweet to your soul. If you find it, there is a future for you, and your hope will never be cut off.

¹⁶ Your words were found, and I ate them. Your words became my joy and my heart’s delight. For I bear Your name, O LORD God of Hosts.

³² They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us as He spoke with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”

¹⁸ I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh; for I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot discover how to carry it out.
