¹ For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. How long, O LORD? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? ² How long must I wrestle in my soul, with sorrow in my heart each day? How long will my enemy dominate me? ³ Consider me and respond, O LORD my God. Give light to my eyes, lest I sleep in death, ⁴ lest my enemy say, “I have overcome him,” and my foes rejoice when I fall. ⁵ But I have trusted in Your loving devotion; my heart will rejoice in Your salvation. ⁶ I will sing to the LORD, for He has been good to me.

¹⁷ On that day My anger will burn against them, and I will abandon them and hide My face from them, so that they will be consumed, and many troubles and afflictions will befall them. On that day they will say, ‘Have not these disasters come upon us because our God is no longer with us?’

²⁴ Why do You hide Your face and consider me as Your enemy?

³ My soul is deeply distressed. How long, O LORD, how long?

¹² Arise, O LORD! Lift up Your hand, O God! Do not forget the helpless.

¹ For the choirmaster. To the tune of “The Doe of the Dawn.” A Psalm of David. My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Why are You so far from saving me, so far from my words of groaning? ² I cry out by day, O my God, but You do not answer, and by night, but I have no rest.

¹⁷ How long, O Lord, will You look on? Rescue my soul from their ravages, my precious life from these lions.

²⁴ Why do You hide Your face and forget our affliction and oppression?

¹ A Maskil of Asaph. Why have You rejected us forever, O God? Why does Your anger smolder against the sheep of Your pasture?

⁴ O LORD God of Hosts, how long will Your anger smolder against the prayers of Your people?

⁵ Will You be angry with us forever? Will You draw out Your anger to all generations?

⁴⁶ How long, O LORD? Will You hide Yourself forever? Will Your wrath keep burning like fire?

¹⁴ Satisfy us in the morning with Your loving devotion, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.

³ How long will the wicked, O LORD, how long will the wicked exult? ⁴ They pour out arrogant words; all workers of iniquity boast.

² But your iniquities have built barriers between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He does not hear.

²⁰ Why have You forgotten us forever? Why have You forsaken us for so long?

²⁹ he grew even more afraid of David. So from then on Saul was David’s enemy.

¹⁹ When a man finds his enemy, does he let him go away unharmed? May the LORD reward you with good for what you have done for me this day.

² so the king said to me, “Why is your face sad, though you are not ill? This could only be sadness of the heart.” I was overwhelmed with fear

⁶ Esther replied, “The adversary and enemy is this wicked man—Haman!” And Haman stood in terror before the king and queen.

¹² Am I the sea, or the monster of the deep, that You must keep me under guard? ¹³ When I think my bed will comfort me and my couch will ease my complaint, ¹⁴ then You frighten me with dreams and terrify me with visions, ¹⁵ so that I would prefer strangling and death over my life in this body.

¹⁹ If it is a matter of strength, He is indeed mighty! If it is a matter of justice, who can summon Him? ²⁰ Even if I were righteous, my mouth would condemn me; if I were blameless, it would declare me guilty. ²¹ Though I am blameless, I have no concern for myself; I despise my own life.

²⁷ If I were to say, ‘I will forget my complaint and change my expression and smile,’ ²⁸ I would still dread all my sufferings; I know that You will not acquit me.

¹⁵ If I am guilty, woe to me! And even if I am righteous, I cannot lift my head. I am full of shame and aware of my affliction.

⁸ If I go east, He is not there, and if I go west, I cannot find Him. ⁹ When He is at work in the north, I cannot behold Him; when He turns to the south, I cannot see Him. ¹⁰ Yet He knows the way I have taken; when He has tested me, I will come forth as gold.

² or they will shred my soul like a lion and tear me to pieces with no one to rescue me.

⁴ if I have rewarded my ally with evil, if I have plundered my foe without cause, ⁵ then may my enemy pursue me and overtake me; may he trample me to the ground and leave my honor in the dust. Selah

² From the mouths of children and infants You have ordained praise on account of Your adversaries, to silence the enemy and avenger.

⁶ The enemy has come to eternal ruin, and You have uprooted their cities; the very memory of them has vanished.

¹⁸ to vindicate the fatherless and oppressed, that the men of the earth may strike terror no more.

⁹ from the wicked who assail me, from my mortal enemies who surround me.

⁷ All who see me mock me; they sneer and shake their heads: ⁸ “He trusts in the LORD, let the LORD deliver him; let the LORD rescue him, since He delights in him.”

¹⁸ May lying lips be silenced—lips that speak with arrogance against the righteous, full of pride and contempt.

¹⁷ For I am ready to fall, and my pain is ever with me.

⁴ These things come to mind as I pour out my soul: how I walked with the multitude, leading the procession to the house of God with shouts of joy and praise.

⁹ I say to God my Rock, “Why have You forgotten me? Why must I walk in sorrow because of the enemy’s oppression?” ¹⁰ Like the crushing of my bones, my enemies taunt me, while they say to me all day long, “Where is your God?”

¹⁴ You have made us a byword among the nations, a laughingstock among the peoples. ¹⁵ All day long my disgrace is before me, and shame has covered my face, ¹⁶ at the voice of the scorner and reviler, because of the enemy, bent on revenge.

¹⁰ How long, O God, will the enemy taunt You? Will the foe revile Your name forever?

¹⁸ Remember how the enemy has mocked You, O LORD, how a foolish people has spurned Your name.

² In the day of trouble I sought the Lord; through the night my outstretched hands did not grow weary; my soul refused to be comforted. ³ I remembered You, O God, and I groaned; I mused and my spirit grew faint. Selah ⁴ You have kept my eyes from closing; I am too troubled to speak. ⁵ I considered the days of old, the years long in the past. ⁶ At night I remembered my song; in my heart I mused, and my spirit pondered: ⁷ “Will the Lord spurn us forever and never show His favor again? ⁸ Is His loving devotion gone forever? Has His promise failed for all time? ⁹ Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has His anger shut off His compassion?” Selah ¹⁰ So I said, “I am grieved that the right hand of the Most High has changed.” ¹¹ I will remember the works of the LORD; yes, I will remember Your wonders of old. ¹² I will reflect on all You have done and ponder Your mighty deeds.

¹⁸ If I say, “My foot is slipping,” Your loving devotion, O LORD, supports me. ¹⁹ When anxiety overwhelms me, Your consolation delights my soul.

³ The ropes of death entangled me; the anguish of Sheol overcame me; I was confronted by trouble and sorrow.

³ Have mercy on us, O LORD, have mercy, for we have endured much contempt. ⁴ We have endured much scorn from the arrogant, much contempt from the proud.

⁴ Look to my right and see; no one attends to me. There is no refuge for me; no one cares for my soul. ⁵ I cry to You, O LORD: “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.” ⁶ Listen to my cry, for I am brought quite low. Rescue me from my pursuers, for they are too strong for me. ⁷ Free my soul from prison, that I may praise Your name. The righteous will gather around me because of Your goodness to me.

³ For the enemy has pursued my soul, crushing my life to the ground, making me dwell in darkness like those long since dead. ⁴ My spirit grows faint within me; my heart is dismayed inside me.

¹³ A joyful heart makes a cheerful countenance, but sorrow of the heart crushes the spirit.

¹⁷ Moreover, all his days he eats in darkness, with much sorrow, sickness, and anger.

¹⁸ My sorrow is beyond healing; my heart is faint within me.

¹⁸ Why is my pain unending, and my wound incurable, refusing to be healed? You have indeed become like a mirage to me—water that is not there.

³ You have said, ‘Woe is me because the LORD has added sorrow to my pain! I am worn out with groaning and have found no rest.’”

⁵ Her foes have become her masters; her enemies are at ease. For the LORD has brought her grief because of her many transgressions. Her children have gone away as captives before the enemy.

⁹ Her uncleanness stains her skirts; she did not consider her end. Her downfall was astounding; there was no one to comfort her. Look, O LORD, on my affliction, for the enemy has triumphed!

⁸ Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will arise; though I sit in darkness, the LORD will be my light. ⁹ Because I have sinned against Him, I must endure the rage of the LORD, until He argues my case and executes justice for me. He will bring me into the light; I will see His righteousness. ¹⁰ Then my enemy will see and will be covered with shame—she who said to me, “Where is the LORD your God?” My eyes will see her; at that time she will be trampled like mud in the streets.

³⁸ Then Jesus said to them, “My soul is consumed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with Me.”

⁵³ Every day I was with you in the temple courts, and you did not lay a hand on Me. But this hour belongs to you and to the power of darkness.”

⁶ Instead, your hearts are filled with sorrow because I have told you these things.

² I have deep sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart.

²⁷ He was sick indeed, nearly unto death. But God had mercy on him, and not only on him but also on me, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow.

²⁷ Jonathan, however, had not heard that his father had charged the people with the oath. So he reached out the end of the staff in his hand, dipped it into the honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes brightened.

²⁹ “My father has brought trouble to the land,” Jonathan replied. “Just look at how my eyes have brightened because I tasted a little of this honey.

⁸ But now, for a brief moment, grace has come from the LORD our God to preserve for us a remnant and to give us a stake in His holy place. Even in our bondage, our God has given us new life and light to our eyes.

¹ For the choirmaster, to be accompanied by flutes. A Psalm of David. Give ear to my words, O LORD; consider my groaning.

¹³ Be merciful to me, O LORD; see how my enemies afflict me! Lift me up from the gates of death,

²⁸ For You, O LORD, light my lamp; my God lights up my darkness.

¹⁹ Consider my enemies, for they are many, and they hate me with vicious hatred.

⁷ I will be glad and rejoice in Your loving devotion, for You have seen my affliction; You have known the anguish of my soul.

¹⁵³ Look upon my affliction and rescue me, for I have not forgotten Your law.

³⁹ While they are flushed with heat, I will serve them a feast, and I will make them drunk so that they may revel; then they will fall asleep forever and never wake up, declares the LORD.

⁵⁷ I will make her princes and wise men drunk, along with her governors, officials, and warriors. Then they will fall asleep forever and not wake up,” declares the King, whose name is the LORD of Hosts.

¹ Remember, O LORD, what has happened to us. Look and see our disgrace!

³² a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to Your people Israel.”

¹⁴ So it is said: “Wake up, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

²³ And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, because the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its lamp.

⁹ When the Canaanites and all who live in the land hear about this, they will surround us and wipe out our name from the earth. Then what will You do for Your great name?”

¹⁹ Rise up, O LORD, do not let man prevail; let the nations be judged in Your presence.

¹¹ He says to himself, “God has forgotten; He hides His face and never sees.”

² in You, my God, I trust. Do not let me be put to shame; do not let my enemies exult over me.

¹⁹ Let not my enemies gloat over me without cause, nor those who hate me without reason wink in malice.

²⁵ Let them not say in their hearts, “Aha, just what we wanted!” Let them not say, “We have swallowed him up!”

¹⁶ For I said, “Let them not gloat over me—those who taunt me when my foot slips.”

²² Cast your burden upon the LORD and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken.

² He alone is my rock and my salvation. He is my fortress; I will never be shaken.

⁶ He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress; I will not be shaken.

⁶ Surely he will never be shaken; the righteous man will be remembered forever.

¹ A song of ascents. I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? ² My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. ³ He will not allow your foot to slip; your Protector will not slumber.

³ A man cannot be established through wickedness, but the righteous cannot be uprooted.

¹⁹ They will fight against you but will never overcome you, since I am with you to deliver you,” declares the LORD.

¹⁶ For these things I weep; my eyes flow with tears. For there is no one nearby to comfort me, no one to revive my soul. My children are destitute because the enemy has prevailed.

¹² Then you will know that I, the LORD, have heard every contemptuous word you uttered against the mountains of Israel when you said, ‘They are desolate; they are given to us to devour!’ ¹³ You boasted against Me with your mouth and multiplied your words against Me. I heard it Myself! ¹⁴ This is what the Lord GOD says: While the whole earth rejoices, I will make you desolate. ¹⁵ As you rejoiced when the inheritance of the house of Israel became desolate, so will I do to you. You will become a desolation, O Mount Seir, and so will all of Edom. Then they will know that I am the LORD.

¹ At that time Hannah prayed: “My heart rejoices in the LORD in whom my horn is exalted. My mouth speaks boldly against my enemies, for I rejoice in Your salvation.

¹⁴ that I may declare all Your praises—that within the gates of Daughter Zion I may rejoice in Your salvation.

¹⁰ Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but loving devotion surrounds him who trusts in the LORD.

¹⁸ Surely the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear Him, on those whose hope is in His loving devotion

²¹ For our hearts rejoice in Him, since we trust in His holy name. ²² May Your loving devotion rest on us, O LORD, as we put our hope in You.

⁷ How precious is Your loving devotion, O God, that the children of men take refuge in the shadow of Your wings!

⁴ Then I will go to the altar of God, to God, my greatest joy. I will praise You with the harp, O God, my God. ⁵ Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why the unease within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God.

¹² Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and sustain me with a willing spirit.

⁸ But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in the loving devotion of God forever and ever.

⁸¹ My soul faints for Your salvation; I wait for Your word.

¹¹ The LORD is pleased with those who fear Him, who hope in His loving devotion.

² Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. For the LORD GOD is my strength and my song, and He also has become my salvation.”

¹⁸ yet I will exult in the LORD; I will rejoice in the God of my salvation!

⁴⁷ and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior!

²⁰ The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, which was just as the angel had told them.

²¹ keep yourselves in the love of God as you await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you eternal life.

¹³ Be exalted, O LORD, in Your strength; we will sing and praise Your power.

⁷ Return to your rest, O my soul, for the LORD has been good to you.

⁷ I will praise You with an upright heart when I learn Your righteous judgments.
