¹ So David left Gath and took refuge in the cave of Adullam. When his brothers and the rest of his father’s household heard about it, they went down to him there.

³ Soon Saul came to the sheepfolds along the road, where there was a cave, and he went in to relieve himself. And David and his men were hiding in the recesses of the cave.

⁸ After that, David got up, went out of the cave, and called out to Saul, “My lord the king!” When Saul looked behind him, David bowed facedown in reverence

¹² Kiss the Son, lest He be angry and you perish in your rebellion, when His wrath ignites in an instant. Blessed are all who take refuge in Him.

¹⁰ Those who know Your name trust in You, for You, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.

⁵ But I have trusted in Your loving devotion; my heart will rejoice in Your salvation.

⁷ Show the wonders of Your loving devotion, You who save by Your right hand those who seek refuge from their foes. ⁸ Keep me as the apple of Your eye; hide me in the shadow of Your wings

⁷ How precious is Your loving devotion, O God, that the children of men take refuge in the shadow of Your wings!

⁷ For You are my help; I will sing for joy in the shadow of Your wings.

¹³ But my prayer to You, O LORD, is for a time of favor. In Your abundant loving devotion, O God, answer me with Your sure salvation. ¹⁴ Rescue me from the mire and do not let me sink; deliver me from my foes and out of the deep waters. ¹⁵ Do not let the floods engulf me or the depths swallow me up; let not the Pit close its mouth over me. ¹⁶ Answer me, O LORD, for Your loving devotion is good; turn to me in keeping with Your great compassion.

¹ He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.

⁴ He will cover you with His feathers; under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and rampart.

⁹ Because you have made the LORD your dwelling—my refuge, the Most High—

⁷⁶ May Your loving devotion comfort me, I pray, according to Your promise to Your servant. ⁷⁷ May Your compassion come to me, that I may live, for Your law is my delight.

²⁵ For in just a little while My fury against you will subside, and My anger will turn to their destruction.”

²⁰ Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut your doors behind you. Hide yourselves a little while until the wrath has passed.

¹⁰ Who among you fears the LORD and obeys the voice of His Servant? Who among you walks in darkness and has no light? Let him trust in the name of the LORD; let him lean on his God.

²² If those days had not been cut short, nobody would be saved. But for the sake of the elect, those days will be cut short.

³⁴ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those sent to her, how often I have longed to gather your children together as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were unwilling!

²⁰ Truly, truly, I tell you, you will weep and wail while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy.

¹⁰ My brothers, as an example of patience in affliction, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. ¹¹ See how blessed we consider those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen the outcome from the Lord. He is full of compassion and mercy.

¹⁴ “Sir,” I answered, “you know.” So he replied, “These are the ones who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

⁴ ‘He will wipe away every tear from their eyes,’ and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have passed away.”

² My enemies pursue me all day long, for many proudly assail me.

¹⁵ For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in a high and holy place, and with the oppressed and humble in spirit, to restore the spirit of the lowly and revive the heart of the contrite.

⁶ being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

¹² Therefore, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but now even more in my absence, continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling.

²¹ equip you with every good work to do His will. And may He accomplish in you what is pleasing in His sight through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

²⁴ Behold, the people rise like a lioness; they rouse themselves like a lion, not resting until they devour their prey and drink the blood of the slain.”

⁶ In my distress I called upon the LORD; I cried to my God for help. From His temple He heard my voice, and my cry for His help reached His ears. ⁷ Then the earth shook and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains trembled; they were shaken because He burned with anger. ⁸ Smoke rose from His nostrils, and consuming fire came from His mouth; glowing coals blazed forth. ⁹ He parted the heavens and came down with dark clouds beneath His feet. ¹⁰ He mounted a cherub and flew; He soared on the wings of the wind. ¹¹ He made darkness His hiding place, and storm clouds a canopy around Him. ¹² From the brightness of His presence His clouds advanced—hailstones and coals of fire. ¹³ The LORD thundered from heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded—hailstones and coals of fire. ¹⁴ He shot His arrows and scattered the foes; He hurled lightning and routed them. ¹⁵ The channels of the sea appeared, and the foundations of the world were exposed, at Your rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of Your nostrils. ¹⁶ He reached down from on high and took hold of me; He drew me out of deep waters. ¹⁷ He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from foes too mighty for me. ¹⁸ They confronted me in my day of calamity, but the LORD was my support. ¹⁹ He brought me out into the open; He rescued me because He delighted in me. ²⁰ The LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness; He has repaid me according to the cleanness of my hands. ²¹ For I have kept the ways of the LORD and have not wickedly departed from my God. ²² For all His ordinances are before me; I have not disregarded His statutes. ²³ And I have been blameless before Him and kept myself from iniquity. ²⁴ So the LORD has repaid me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in His sight. ²⁵ To the faithful You show Yourself faithful, to the blameless You show Yourself blameless; ²⁶ to the pure You show Yourself pure, but to the crooked You show Yourself shrewd. ²⁷ For You save an afflicted people, but You humble those with haughty eyes. ²⁸ For You, O LORD, light my lamp; my God lights up my darkness. ²⁹ For in You I can charge an army, and with my God I can scale a wall. ³⁰ As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him. ³¹ For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the Rock except our God? ³² It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way clear. ³³ He makes my feet like those of a deer and stations me upon the heights. ³⁴ He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. ³⁵ You have given me Your shield of salvation; Your right hand upholds me, and Your gentleness exalts me. ³⁶ You broaden the path beneath me so that my ankles do not give way. ³⁷ I pursued my enemies and overtook them; I did not turn back until they were consumed. ³⁸ I crushed them so they could not rise; they have fallen under my feet. ³⁹ You have armed me with strength for battle; You have subdued my foes beneath me. ⁴⁰ You have made my enemies retreat before me; I put an end to those who hated me. ⁴¹ They cried for help, but there was no one to save them—to the LORD, but He did not answer. ⁴² I ground them as dust in the face of the wind; I trampled them like mud in the streets. ⁴³ You have delivered me from the strife of the people; You have made me the head of nations; a people I had not known shall serve me. ⁴⁴ When they hear me, they obey me; foreigners cower before me. ⁴⁵ Foreigners lose heart and come trembling from their strongholds. ⁴⁶ The LORD lives, and blessed be my Rock! And may the God of my salvation be exalted— ⁴⁷ the God who avenges me and subdues nations beneath me, ⁴⁸ who delivers me from my enemies. You exalt me above my foes; You rescue me from violent men. ⁴⁹ Therefore I will praise You, O LORD, among the nations; I will sing praises to Your name. ⁵⁰ Great salvation He brings to His king. He shows loving devotion to His anointed, to David and his descendants forever.

¹¹ O LORD, do not withhold Your mercy from me; Your loving devotion and faithfulness will always guard me.

³ Send out Your light and Your truth; let them lead me. Let them bring me to Your holy mountain, and to the place where You dwell.

⁵ Part Your heavens, O LORD, and come down; touch the mountains, that they may smoke. ⁶ Flash forth Your lightning and scatter them; shoot Your arrows and rout them. ⁷ Reach down from on high; set me free and rescue me from the deep waters, from the grasp of foreigners,

² You hate good and love evil. You tear the skin from my people and strip the flesh from their bones. ³ You eat the flesh of my people after stripping off their skin and breaking their bones. You chop them up like flesh for the cooking pot, like meat in a cauldron.”

² Suddenly there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, rolled away the stone from the entrance, and sat on it. ³ His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. ⁴ The guards trembled in fear of him and became like dead men. ⁵ But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. ⁶ He is not here; He has risen, just as He said! Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

¹⁷ For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

¹¹ Then Peter came to himself and said, “Now I know for sure that the Lord has sent His angel and rescued me from Herod’s grasp and from everything the Jewish people were anticipating.”

²⁰ But if not, may fire come from Abimelech and consume the leaders of Shechem and Beth-millo, and may fire come from the leaders of Shechem and Beth-millo and consume Abimelech.”

⁹ He lies in wait like a lion in a thicket; he lurks to seize the oppressed; he catches the lowly in his net.

¹² like a lion greedy for prey, like a young lion lurking in ambush. ¹³ Arise, O LORD, confront them! Bring them to their knees; deliver me from the wicked by Your sword,

¹³ They open their jaws against me like lions that roar and maul. ¹⁴ I am poured out like water, and all my bones are disjointed. My heart is like wax; it melts away within me. ¹⁵ My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. You lay me in the dust of death. ¹⁶ For dogs surround me; a band of evil men encircles me; they have pierced my hands and feet.

¹⁷ How long, O Lord, will You look on? Rescue my soul from their ravages, my precious life from these lions.

² Your tongue devises destruction like a sharpened razor, O worker of deceit.

²¹ His speech is smooth as butter, but war is in his heart. His words are softer than oil, yet they are swords unsheathed.

⁶ O God, shatter their teeth in their mouths; O LORD, tear out the fangs of the lions.

⁷ See what they spew from their mouths—sharp words from their lips: “For who can hear us?”

³ who sharpen their tongues like swords and aim their bitter words like arrows,

¹⁸ Speaking rashly is like a piercing sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

¹⁸ Like a club or sword or sharp arrow is a man who bears false witness against his neighbor.

¹⁵ Like a roaring lion or a charging bear is a wicked ruler over a helpless people.

¹⁴ there is a generation whose teeth are swords and whose jaws are knives, devouring the oppressed from the earth and the needy from among men.

²² My God sent His angel and shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, for I was found innocent in His sight, and I have done no wrong against you, O king.” ²³ The king was overjoyed and gave orders to lift Daniel out of the den, and when Daniel was lifted out of the den, no wounds whatsoever were found on him, because he had trusted in his God. ²⁴ At the command of the king, the men who had falsely accused Daniel were brought and thrown into the den of lions—they and their children and wives. And before they had reached the bottom of the den, the lions overpowered them and crushed all their bones.

¹⁰ Jesus answered, “If you knew the gift of God and who is asking you for a drink, you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” ¹¹ “Sir,” the woman replied, “You have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where then will You get this living water?

⁶ The tongue also is a fire, a world of wickedness among the parts of the body. It pollutes the whole person, sets the course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

¹⁵ And from His mouth proceeds a sharp double-edged sword with which to strike down the nations, and He will rule them with an iron scepter. He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty.

²¹ “Yet as surely as I live and as surely as the whole earth is filled with the glory of the LORD,

¹ Then King David said to the whole assembly, “My son Solomon, the one whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced. The task is great because this palace is not for man, but for the LORD God.

¹³ Be exalted, O LORD, in Your strength; we will sing and praise Your power.

¹⁹ And blessed be His glorious name forever; may all the earth be filled with His glory. Amen and amen.

⁴ For Your loving devotion extends beyond the heavens, and Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. ⁵ Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; may Your glory cover all the earth.

⁴ The LORD is exalted over all the nations, His glory above the heavens. ⁵ Who is like the LORD our God, the One enthroned on high? ⁶ He humbles Himself to behold the heavens and the earth.

¹³ Let them praise the name of the LORD, for His name alone is exalted; His splendor is above the earth and the heavens.

¹¹ The proud look of man will be humbled, and the loftiness of men brought low; the LORD alone will be exalted in that day.

¹⁷ So the pride of man will be brought low, and the loftiness of men will be humbled; the LORD alone will be exalted in that day,

³ And they were calling out to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of Hosts; all the earth is full of His glory.”

⁴ and on that day you will say: “Give praise to the LORD; proclaim His name! Make His works known among the peoples; declare that His name is exalted.

²⁰ And now, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You alone, O LORD, are God.”

¹⁴ For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.

³ God came from Teman, and the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah His glory covered the heavens, and His praise filled the earth.

⁹ So then, this is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. ¹⁰ Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

²² Please go and prepare further. Investigate and watch carefully where he goes and who has seen him there, for I am told that he is extremely cunning. ²³ Observe and find out all the places where he hides. Then come back to me with certainty, and I will go with you. If he is in the land, I will search him out among all the clans of Judah.” ²⁴ So they set out and went to Ziph ahead of Saul. Now David and his men were in the Wilderness of Maon in the Arabah south of Jeshimon, ²⁵ and Saul and his men went to seek him. When David was told about it, he went down to the rock and stayed in the Wilderness of Maon. And when Saul heard of this, he pursued David there. ²⁶ Saul was proceeding along one side of the mountain, and David and his men along the other side. Even though David was hurrying to get away, Saul and his men were closing in on David and his men to capture them.

¹⁵ He has dug a hole and hollowed it out; he has fallen into a pit of his own making. ¹⁶ His trouble recoils on himself, and his violence falls on his own head.

¹⁵ The nations have fallen into a pit of their making; their feet are caught in the net they have hidden. ¹⁶ The LORD is known by the justice He brings; the wicked are ensnared by the work of their hands. Higgaion Selah

⁷ For without cause they laid their net for me; without reason they dug a pit for my soul. ⁸ May ruin befall them by surprise; may the net they hid ensnare them; may they fall into the hazard they created.

⁶ O my God, my soul despairs within me. Therefore I remember You from the land of Jordan and the peaks of Hermon—even from Mount Mizar.

⁵ The proud hide a snare for me; the cords of their net are spread along the path, and lures are set out for me. Selah

³ Although my spirit grows faint within me, You know my way. Along the path I travel they have hidden a snare for me.

¹⁴ The LORD upholds all who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down.

¹⁰ He who leads the upright along the path of evil will fall into his own pit, but the blameless will inherit what is good.

⁵ A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet.

² The godly man has perished from the earth; there is no one upright among men. They all lie in wait for blood; they hunt one another with a net.

³⁷ He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee and began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed. ³⁸ Then Jesus said to them, “My soul is consumed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with Me.”

⁴ I sought the LORD, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.

⁷ He does not fear bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.

¹⁵ Therefore glorify the LORD in the east. Extol the name of the LORD, the God of Israel in the islands of the sea.

³ Not only that, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;

²⁰ always giving thanks to God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹² ‘Awake, awake, O Deborah! Awake, awake, sing a song! Arise, O Barak, and take hold of your captives, O son of Abinoam!’

⁹ Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will dwell securely.

⁹ Break forth in joy, sing together, O ruins of Jerusalem, for the LORD has comforted His people; He has redeemed Jerusalem.

²⁶ Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will dwell in hope,

¹ Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?

⁴⁹ Therefore I will praise You, O LORD, among the nations; I will sing praises to Your name.

²² I will proclaim Your name to my brothers; I will praise You in the assembly. ²³ You who fear the LORD, praise Him! All descendants of Jacob, honor Him! All offspring of Israel, revere Him!

³ Declare His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all peoples.

¹ Of David. I give You thanks with all my heart; before the gods I sing Your praises.

⁴ All the kings of the earth will give You thanks, O LORD, when they hear the words of Your mouth. ⁵ They will sing of the ways of the LORD, for the glory of the LORD is great.

¹⁰ All You have made will give You thanks, O LORD, and Your saints will bless You. ¹¹ They will tell of the glory of Your kingdom and speak of Your might, ¹² to make known to men Your mighty acts and the glorious splendor of Your kingdom.

⁹ so that the Gentiles may glorify God for His mercy. As it is written: “Therefore I will praise You among the Gentiles; I will sing hymns to Your name.”

⁹ “Behold, I now establish My covenant with you and your descendants after you, ¹⁰ and with every living creature that was with you—the birds, the livestock, and every beast of the earth—every living thing that came out of the ark. ¹¹ And I establish My covenant with you: Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.” ¹² And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between Me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: ¹³ I have set My rainbow in the clouds, and it will be a sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. ¹⁴ Whenever I form clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, ¹⁵ I will remember My covenant between Me and you and every living creature of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. ¹⁶ And whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of every kind that is on the earth.” ¹⁷ So God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant that I have established between Me and every creature on the earth.”

⁵ Your loving devotion, O LORD, reaches to the heavens, Your faithfulness to the clouds.

¹⁹ Your righteousness reaches to the heavens, O God, You who have done great things. Who, O God, is like You?

¹⁰ Loving devotion and faithfulness have joined together; righteousness and peace have kissed. ¹¹ Faithfulness sprouts from the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven.

¹ A Maskil of Ethan the Ezrahite. I will sing of the loving devotion of the LORD forever; with my mouth I will proclaim Your faithfulness to all generations. ² For I have said, “Loving devotion is built up forever; in the heavens You establish Your faithfulness.”

¹¹ For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His loving devotion for those who fear Him.

⁴ For Your loving devotion extends beyond the heavens, and Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.

⁷ “For a brief moment I forsook you, but with great compassion I will bring you back. ⁸ In a surge of anger I hid My face from you for a moment, but with everlasting kindness I will have compassion on you,” says the LORD your Redeemer. ⁹ “For to Me this is like the days of Noah, when I swore that the waters of Noah would never again cover the earth. So I have sworn that I will not be angry with you or rebuke you. ¹⁰ Though the mountains may be removed and the hills may be shaken, My loving devotion will not depart from you, and My covenant of peace will not be broken,” says the LORD, who has compassion on you.

¹⁷ So when God wanted to make the unchanging nature of His purpose very clear to the heirs of the promise, He guaranteed it with an oath. ¹⁸ Thus by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be strongly encouraged.

⁹ O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth!

³ and they sang the song of God’s servant Moses and of the Lamb: “Great and wonderful are Your works, O Lord God Almighty!
