¹⁴ The sons of Manasseh: Asriel which Aramea his concubine bare: she bare also Machir the father of Gilead.

²³ And Joseph saw Ephraim's children, even unto the third generation. And unto Machir the son of Manasseh were children born, and sat on Joseph's knees.

²⁹ The children of Manasseh: Machir, of whom cometh the kindred of the Machirites. And Machir begat Gilead, of whom cometh the kindred of the Gileadites. ³⁰ And these are the children of Gilead: Iezer, of whom cometh the kindred of the Iezerites; and of Helek cometh the kindred of the Helekites; ³¹ and of Asriel the kindred of the Asrielites; and of Shechem cometh the kindred of the Shechemites; ³² and of Shemida cometh the kindred of the Shemidites; and of Hepher cometh the kindred of the Hepherites. ³³ And Zelophehad the son of Hepher had no sons but daughters. And the names of the daughters of Zelophehad were: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah. ³⁴ These are the kindreds of Manasseh, in number fifty two thousand and seven hundred.

¹ And the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Heber the son of Gilead, the son of Machir the son of Manasseh, of the kindreds of Manasseh the son of Joseph — whose names were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah -

³⁰ But and if they will not go over with you in harness, then they shall have their possessions among you in the land of Canaan." ³¹ And the children of Gad and Ruben answered, saying, "That which the LORD hath said unto thy servants we will do. ³² We will go harnessed before the LORD into the land of Canaan, and the possession of our inheritance shall be on this side the Jordan." ³³ And Moses gave unto the children of Gad and of Reuben, and unto the half tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land that belonged unto the cities thereof in the coasts of the country round about. ³⁴ And the children of Gad built Dibon, Ataroth Aroer, ³⁵ Atrothshophan, Jazer, Jogbehah, ³⁶ Bethnimra and Bethharan fenced cities, and they built folds for their sheep. ³⁷ And the children of Reuben built Heshbon, Elealeh, Kiriathaim, ³⁸ Nebo, Baalmeon — and turned their names — and Sibmah also: and gave names unto the cities which they built. ³⁹ And the children of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead and took it, and put out the Amorites that were therein. ⁴⁰ And Moses gave Gilead unto Machir the son of Manasseh and he dwelt therein. ⁴¹ And Jair the son of Manasseh went and took the small towns thereof, and called them the towns of Jair. ⁴² And Nobah went and took Kenath with the towns longing thereto, and called it Nobah after his own name.

¹³ And the rest of Gilead and all Bashan the kingdom of Og, I gave unto the half tribe of Manasseh: all the region of Argob with all Bashan was called the land of Giants. ¹⁴ Jair the son of Manasseh took all the region of Argob unto the coasts of Geshuri and Maachathi, and called the towns of Bashan after his own name: the towns of Jair unto this day. ¹⁵ And I gave half Gilead unto Machir.

³¹ and half Gilead and Ashtaroth, and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, which pertain unto the children of Machir the son of Manasseh, and that unto half the children of Machir by their kindreds.

¹ And the tribe of Manasseh which was the eldest son of Joseph received a lot. And Machir, the eldest son of Manasseh, which was the father of Gilead and a man of war, had Gilead and Bashan. ² And the rest of the children of Manasseh received by their kindreds: which were the children of Abiezer; the children of Helek: the children of Asriel: the children of Shechem, the children of Hepher: the children of Shemida. These are the male children of Manasseh the son of Joseph in their kindreds. ³ But Zelophehad the son of Hepher the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons save daughters. And these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah;

¹⁴ Ephraim was the first against Amalek, and after them Benjamin, among the people. Of Machir came learned men in the law, and of Zebulun that well could draw with the pen of a scribe.

²¹ And afterward Hezron went in to the daughter of Machir the father of Gilead and was, when he took her, three score years old. And she bare him Segub. ²² And Segub begat Jair which had twenty three cities in the land of Gilead. ²³ And he overcame the Geshurites and the Aramites, and took the towns of Jair from them, and Kenath with the towns that belonged to the same, even three score towns. All these were the sons of Machir the father of Gilead.
