⁸ Be sober, and watch. For your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

⁵ Then went Samson and his father and his mother down to Timnah. And when they came to the vineyards of Timnah, behold, a young lion roared upon him.

³⁸ They shall roar together like lions, and as the young lions when they be angry, so shall they bend themselves.

⁷ he destroyed their palaces, and made their cities waste. Insomuch that the whole land and every thing therein were utterly desolate through the very voice of his roaring.

²⁵ thy Prophets that are in thee are sworn together to devour souls, like as a roaring Lion that liveth by his prey. They receive riches and good, and make many widows in thee.

¹ And he showed me Joshua the high priest, standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan stood at his righthand to resist him.

³ Men may hear the shepherds mourn, for their glory is destroyed. Men may hear the lion's whelps roar, for the pride of Jordan is wasted away.

¹ Then was Jesus led away of the spirit into wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

¹¹ Then the devil left him, and, Behold, the angels came and ministered unto him.

³⁹ And the enemy that soweth them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the world. And the reapers be the angels.

⁴² Wake, therefore, because ye know not what hour your master will come.

⁴⁸ But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, my master will defer his coming, ⁴⁹ and begin to smite his fellows: yea and to eat and to drink with the drunken: ⁵⁰ that servant's master will come in a day when he looketh not for him: and in a hour that he is not aware of,

⁴¹ Then shall the King say unto them that shall be on the left hand, 'Depart from me ye cursed, into everlasting fire, which is prepared for the devil and his angels.

⁴⁵ But and if the evil servant shall say in his heart, 'My master will defer his coming,' and shall begin to smite the servants, and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken: ⁴⁶ the Lord of that servant will come in a day, when he thinketh not, and at a hour when he is not aware, and will divide him, and will give him his reward, with the unbelievers.

³⁴ Take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be overcome with surfeiting and drunkenness, and cares of this world: and that, that day come on you unawares.

³⁶ Watch therefore continually and pray, that ye may obtain grace to fly all this that shall come. And that ye may stand before the son of man."

³¹ And the Lord said, "Simon, Simon, behold Satan hath desired you, to sift you, as it were wheat:

⁴⁴ Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father, ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning; And abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, then speaketh he of his own. For he is a liar, and the father thereof.

¹¹ This also we know, I mean the season: how that it is time that we should now awake out of sleep. For now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. ¹² The night is past and the day is come nigh. Let us therefore cast away the deeds of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. ¹³ Let us walk honestly as it were in the daylight: not in eating and drinking: neither in chambering and wantonness: neither in strife and envying:

²⁷ neither give place unto the backbiter.

¹¹ Put on the armour of God, that ye may stand steadfast against the crafty assaults of the devil.

⁶ Therefore let us not sleep as do others: but let us watch and be sober. ⁷ For they that sleep, sleep in the night: and they that be drunken, are drunken in the night. ⁸ But let us which are of the day be sober, armed with the breast plate of faith and love, and with hope of salvation as a helmet.

⁹ Likewise also the women, that they array themselves in comely apparel with shamefastness, and discreet behavior, not with broided hair, other gold, or pearls, or costly array:

¹⁵ Notwithstanding, through bearing of children they shall be saved, so they continue in faith, love, and holiness with discretion.

² Yea, and a bishop must be faultless, the husband of one wife, sober, discreet, honestly appareled, harborous, apt to teach,

¹¹ Even so must their wives be honest, not evil speakers: but sober, and faithful in all things.

¹⁷ notwithstanding the Lord assisted me, and strengthed me, that by me the preaching should be fulfilled to the utmost and that all the gentiles should hear. And I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.

⁸ but harborous, one that loveth goodness, sober minded, righteous, holy, temperate,

² That the elder men be sober, honest, discreet, sound in the faith, in love and in patience.

⁴ to make the young women soberminded, to love their husbands, to love their children,

⁶ Young men likewise exhort that they be sober minded.

¹² and teacheth us that we should deny ungodliness and worldly lusts, and that we should live sober minded, righteously, and godly in this present world,

⁷ Submit yourselves to God, and resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

¹³ Wherefore, gird up the loins of your minds, be sober, and trust perfectly on the grace that is brought unto you by the declaring of Jesus Christ;

⁷ The end of all things is at hand. Be ye therefore discreet, and sober, that ye may be apt to prayers.

⁸ He that committeth sin is of the devil: for the devil sinneth since the beginning. But for this cause appeared the son of God, even to destroy the works of the devil. ⁹ All that are born of God do no sin, for his seed abideth in them, and they cannot sin, because they be born of God. ¹⁰ And hereby are the sons of God known, and also the sons of the devil. All that work not righteousness, are not of God, nor he that loveth not his brother.

⁹ And the great dragon, that old serpent called the devil and Satan; Was cast out. Which deceiveth all the world. And he was cast into the earth, and his angels were cast out also.

¹² Therefore rejoice heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth, and of the sea: for the devil is come down unto you, which hath great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time."

² And he took the dragon, that old serpent which is the devil and Satan, and he bound him a thousand years:

¹⁰ and the devil that deceived them, was cast into a lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet were and shall be tormented day and night for ever more.
