⁷ And he said, "Hear, LORD, the voice of Judah and bring him unto his people: let his hands fight for him: but be thou his help against his enemies."

⁸ "Judah, thy brethren shall praise thee, and thine hand shall be in the neck of thine enemies, and thy father's children shall stoop unto thee. ⁹ Judah is a lion's whelp. From spoil, my son, thou art come on high: he laid him down and couched himself as a lion, and as a lioness. Who dare stir him up? ¹⁰ The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor a ruler from between his legs, until Shiloh come, unto whom the people shall hearken. ¹¹ He shall bind his foal unto the vine, and his ass's colt unto the vine branch, and shall wash his garment in wine and his mantle in the blood of grapes: ¹² his eyes are roudier than wine, and his teeth whiter than milk.

¹ After the death of Joshua, the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, "Who shall go up first unto the Cananites to fight against them?" ² And the LORD said, "Judah shall go up: behold I have delivered the land into his hands." ³ Then Judah said unto Simeon his brother, "Come with me into my lot, and let us fight against the Cananites: And I likewise will go with thee into thy lot." And so Simeon went with him. ⁴ And Judah went up, and the LORD delivered the Cananites and Perezites into their hands. And they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men. ⁵ And they found Adonibezek in Bezek. And they fought against him, and slew the Cananites and Perezites. ⁶ But Adonibezek fled, and they followed after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes. ⁷ Then Adonibezek said, "Three score and ten kings having their thumbs and great toes cut off, gathered their meat under my table wherefore as I have done so God hath done to me again." And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.

¹ There was long strife between the house of Saul and the house of David. But David waxed stronger and stronger, and the house of Saul waxed weaker and weaker.

¹ Then came all the tribes of Israel to David to Hebron, and said, "See, we are thy bones and thy flesh.

¹⁹ And David asked of the LORD, saying, "Shall I go to the Philistines? And wilt thou deliver them into my hands?" And the LORD said unto David, "Go, for I will deliver the Philistines into thy hands."

²⁴ And when thou hearest the noise of a thing going in the tops of the pear trees, then move. For then the LORD is gone out before thee, to smite the host of the Philistines."

⁹ And I was with thee in all that thou wentest to, and have destroyed all thine enemies out of thy sight, and have made thee a great name, like unto the name of the great men of the world. ¹⁰ And I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant it and they shall continue in one place and shall move no more, neither shall wicked people trouble them any more as they did at the beginning, ¹¹ and since the time I commanded judges to be over my people Israel; and I will give thee rest from all thine enemies. And the LORD telleth thee that he will build thee a household. ¹² And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou laid to rest with thy fathers, then I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy body, and will establish his kingdom.

²² And there came one or other to David day by day to help him: until it was a great host, like the host of God.

¹² And so Jehoshaphat prospered and grew up on high. And he built, in Judah, castles and store cities. ¹³ And he had great substance in the cities of Judah, and fighting men and men of might in Jerusalem. ¹⁴ And this is the order in the houses of their fathers, of the captains over thousands in Judah: Adnah the captain, and with him of fighting men three hundred thousand. ¹⁵ And next to him, Jehohanan a captain, and with him two hundred and eighty thousand. ¹⁶ And by his side, Amasiah the son of Zichri, willing unto the LORD, and with him two hundred thousand mighty men. ¹⁷ And of the children of Benjamin, Eliada was a man of might, and had with him, armed with bows and shields, two hundred thousand. ¹⁸ And by his side Jehozabad, with whom were a hundred and eighty thousand trimmed for war. ¹⁹ These waited on the king, besides those which the king had put in strong cities throughout all Judah.

¹ {To the Chanter, a Psalm of David} In the LORD put I my trust: how say ye then to my soul, that she should flee as a bird unto the hill? ² For lo, the ungodly bend their bow, and make ready their arrows within the quiver, that they may privily shoot at them which are true of heart. ³ For the foundations will be cast down, and what hath the righteous done? ⁴ The LORD is in his holy temple, the LORD's seat is in heaven. His eyes consider the poor, and his eyelids try the children of men. ⁵ The LORD alloweth the righteous; but the ungodly, and him that delighteth in wickedness, doth his soul abhor. ⁶ Upon the ungodly he shall rain snares, fire, brimstone, storm and tempest: this shall be their portion to drink. ⁷ For the LORD is righteous, and he loveth righteousness: his countenance will behold the thing that is just.

² Send thee help from the Sanctuary, and strengthen thee out of Zion;

¹ {To the Chanter, a Psalm of David} The King shall rejoice in thy strength, O LORD; exceeding glad shall he be of thy salvation.

⁸ All thine enemies shall feel thine hand; thy righthand shall find out them that hate thee.

⁶⁸ but chose the tribe of Judah, even the hill of Zion which he loved.

⁷⁰ He chose David also his servant, and took him away from the sheepfolds.

¹ {A Psalm of David} The LORD said unto my LORD, "Sit thou on my righthand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool." ² The LORD shall send the rod of thy power out of Zion; be thou ruler, even in the midst among thine enemies.

⁵ Blessed is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, and whose hope is in the LORD his God,

¹⁷ Therefore shall the LORD have no pleasure in their young men, neither favour their fatherless and widows. For they are all together hypocrites and wicked, and all their mouths speak folly. After all this shall not the LORD's wrath cease, but yet his hand shall be stretched out still.

² And thou Bethlehem Ephrata, art little among the thousands of Judah: Out of thee shall come one, unto me, which shall be the governour in Israel: whose outgoing hath been from the beginning, and from everlasting.

¹ Behold, I send my messenger which shall prepare the way before me. And suddenly shall the Lord whom ye seek, come unto his temple, and the messenger of the covenant whom ye desire. Behold, he cometh saith the LORD Sabaoth.

²⁷ Moreover, those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.'"

²⁵ For he must reign till he have put all his enemies under his feet.

¹⁴ For it is evident that our Lord sprung of the tribe of Judah, of which tribe spake Moses nothing concerning priesthood.

¹³ And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood, and his name is called the word of God. ¹⁴ And the warriors which were in heaven, followed him upon white horses, clothed with white and pure raynes: ¹⁵ and out of his mouth went out a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the heathen. And he shall rule them with a rod of iron, and he trod the wine-vat of fierceness and wrath of almighty God. ¹⁶ And hath on his vesture and on his thigh, a name written, "King of Kings, and Lord of lords."

¹⁰ and the devil that deceived them, was cast into a lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet were and shall be tormented day and night for ever more. ¹¹ And I saw a great white seat and him that sat on it, from whose face fled away both the earth and heaven, and their place was no more found. ¹² And I saw the dead, both great and small, stand before God: And the books were opened, and another book was opened, which is the book of life, and the dead were judged of those things which were written in the books according to their deeds. ¹³ And the sea gave up her dead, which were in her, and death and hell delivered up the dead, which were in them: and they were judged every man according to his deeds. ¹⁴ And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is that second death. ¹⁵ And whosoever was not found written in the book of life, was cast into the lake of fire.
