³⁴ And he said, "I tell thee Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, till thou have thrice denied that thou knowest me."

⁵⁶ And one of the wenches, as he sat, beheld him by the fire and set good eyesight on him, and said, "This same was also with him." ⁵⁷ Then he denied him, saying, "Woman I know him not." ⁵⁸ And after a little while, another saw him and said, "Thou art also of them." And Peter said, "Man I am not." ⁵⁹ And about the space of a hour after, another affirmed, saying, "Verily even this fellow was with him, for he is of Galilee." ⁶⁰ And Peter said, "Man, I know not what thou sayest." And immediately while he yet spake, the cock crew. ⁶¹ And the Lord turned back and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the words of the Lord, how he said unto him, "Before the cock crow thou shalt deny me thrice." ⁶² And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.

¹⁶ But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple which was known unto the high priest, and spake to the damsel that kept the door, and brought in Peter. ¹⁷ Then said the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, "Art not thou one of this man's disciples?" He said, "I am not."

²⁵ Simon Peter stood and warmed himself, and they said unto him, "Art not thou also one of his disciples?" He denied it, and said, "I am not." ²⁶ One of the servants of the high priest, his cousin whose ear Peter smote off, said unto him, "Did not I see thee in the garden with him?" ²⁷ Peter denied it again: and immediately the cock crew.

¹² Wherefore, let him that thinketh he standeth, take heed lest he fall.
