1 And after six days Jesus took Peter and James and John his brother, and brought them up into a high mountain out of the way,
2 and was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his clothes were as white as the light.
3 And behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elijah talking with him.
4 Then answered Peter, and said to Jesus, "Master here is good being for us. If thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah."
5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud shadowed them. And behold, there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, "This is my dear son, in whom I delight; hear him."
6 And when the disciples heard that, they fell on their faces, and were sore afraid.
7 And Jesus came and touched them, and said, "Arise and be not afraid."
8 Then lift they up their eyes, and when they looked up, they saw no man, save Jesus only.
9 And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, "See that ye tell the vision to no man, till the son of man be risen again from death."
10 And his disciples asked of him, saying, "Why then say the scribes, that Elijah must first come?"
11 Jesus answered, and said unto them, "Elijah shall first come, and restore all things.
12 And I say unto you, that Elijah is come already: And they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they lusted. In likewise shall also the son of man suffer of them."
13 Then the disciples perceived that he spake unto them of John Baptist.
14 And when they were come to the people, there came to him a certain man; and kneeled down to him, and said,
15 "Master have mercy on my son, for he is lunatic, and is sore vexed. And ofttimes, he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.
16 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not heal him."
17 Jesus answered and said, "O generation faithless, and crooked: how long shall I be with you? How long shall I suffer you? Bring him hither to me."
18 And Jesus rebuked the devil, and he came out of him: and the child was healed even that same hour.
19 Then came the disciples to Jesus secretly, and said, "Why could not we cast him out?"
20 Jesus said unto them, "Because of your unbelief. For I say verily unto you, if ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye should say unto this mountain, remove hence to yonder place, and he should remove: Neither should any thing be impossible for you to do.
21 Howbeit, this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting."
22 As they passed the time in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, "The son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men,
23 and they shall kill him, and the third day he shall rise again." And they sorrowed greatly.
24 And when they were come to Capernaum, they that were wont to gather poll money, came to Peter and said, "Doth your Master pay tribute?"
25 He said, "Yea." And when he was come into the house, Jesus spake first to him, saying, "What thinkest thou Simon? Of whom do the kings of the earth take tribute, or poll money? Of their children, or of strangers?"
26 Peter said unto him, "Of strangers." Then said Jesus unto him again, "Then are the children free.
27 Nevertheless, lest we should offend them, go to the sea and cast in thine angle, and take the fish that first cometh up: and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of twenty pence: that take, and pay for me and thee."

4 as it is written in the book of the sayings of Isaiah the prophet, which sayeth, "The voice of a crier in wilderness, prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
5 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low: And crooked things shall be made straight: and the rough ways shall be made smooth.
6 And all flesh shall see the saviour sent of God."
7 Then said he to the people that were come to be baptised of him, "O generation of vipers: who hath taught you to fly away from the wrath to come?
8 Bring forth due fruits of repentance; And begin not to say in yourselves, we have Abraham to our father. For I say unto you: God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
9 Now also is the axe laid unto the root of the trees: So that every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit shall be hewn down, and cast into the fire."

Isaiah 53:3-12
3 He was despised and cast out of men's company; and one that had suffered sorrow, and had experience of infirmity. And we were as one that had hid his face from him.
4 He was so despisable, that we esteemed him not. Truly, he took upon him our diseases, and bare our sorrows. And yet we counted him plagued, and beaten, and humbled of God.
5 He was wounded for our transgressions, and bruised for our iniquities. The correction that brought us peace was on him, and with his stripes we were healed.
6 And we went astray as sheep, and turned every man his way: and the LORD put on him the wickedness of us all.
7 He suffered wrong and was evil entreated, and yet opened not his mouth: he was as a sheep led to be slain: and as a lamb before his shearer, he was dumb and opened not his mouth.
8 By the reason of the affliction, he was not esteemed: and yet his generation who can number? When he is taken from the earth of living men: for my people's transgression he was plagued.
9 He put his sepulchre with the wicked, and with the rich in his death: because he did none iniquity, neither was guile found in his mouth.
10 And yet the LORD determined to bruise him with infirmities. His soul giving herself for trangression, he shall see seed of long continuance; and the will of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
11 Because of the labour of his soul, he shall see and be satisfied. With his knowledge, he, being just, shall justify my servants: and that a great number. And he shall bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore I will give him his part in many, and the spoil of the rich he shall divide: because he gave his soul to death, and was numbered with the trespassers, and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for transgressors.
Matthew 11:2
2 When John, being in prison, heard the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples and said unto him,

10 For this is he, of whom it is written, 'Behold, I send my messenger before thy face which shall prepare thy way before thee.'
11 Verily I say unto you, Among the children of women arose there not a greater than John the Baptist: Notwithstanding, he that is least in the kingdom of heaven, is greater than he.
12 From the time of John Baptist, hitherto, the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence,
13 and they that go to it with violence pluck it unto them. For all the prophets and the law prophesied unto the time of John.
14 And also if ye will receive it, this is Elijah, which should come.

6 But when Herod's birthday was come, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.
7 Wherefore he promised with an oath, that he would give her whatsoever she would ask.
8 And she, being informed of her mother before, said, "Give me here John Baptist's head in a platter."

21 But when a convenient day was come: Herod on his birthday made a supper to the Lords, captains, and chief estates of Galilee.
22 And the daughter of the said Herodias came in and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat at board also. Then the king said unto the maiden, "Ask of me what thou wilt, and I will give it thee."
23 And he sware unto her, "Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, even unto the one half of my kingdom."
24 And she went forth and said to her mother, "What shall I ask?" And she said, "John Baptist's head."
25 And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, "I will, that thou give me by and by in a charger the head of John Baptist."
26 And the king was sorry. Yet for his oath's sake, and for their sakes which sat at supper also, he would not put her beside her purpose.
27 And immediately the king sent the hangman and commanded his head to be brought in.
28 And he went and beheaded him in the prison, and brought his head in a charger and gave it to the maiden, and the maiden gave it to her mother.
