³⁹ And there is another like unto this: 'Thou shalt love thine neighbor as thyself.'

¹⁸ Thou shalt not avenge thyself nor bear hate in thy mind against the children of thy people, but shalt love thy neighbour even as thyself. I am the LORD. ¹⁹ Honour father and mother: and thou shalt love thine neighbor as thyself."

This do and thou shalt live." ²⁹ He, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, "Who is then my neighbor?" ³⁰ Jesus answered and said, "A certain man descended from Jerusalem into Jericho; And fell into the hands of thieves, which robbed him of his raiment and wounded him, and departed leaving him half dead. ³¹ And by chance, there came a certain priest that same way, and when he saw him, he passed by. ³² And likewise a Levite, when he was come nigh to the place, went and looked on him, and passed by. ³³ Then a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came nigh unto him: and when he saw him, had compassion on him, ³⁴ and went to him, and bound up his wounds, and poured in wine, and oil, and put him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and made provision for him. ³⁵ And on the morrow, when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host and said unto him, 'Take care of him, and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again I will recompense thee.' ³⁶ Which now of these three, thinkest thou was neighbor unto him that fell into the thieves hands?" ³⁷ And he said, "He that showed mercy on him." Then said Jesus unto him, "Go and do thou likewise."

⁹ For these commandments: Thou shalt not commit adultery, thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not bear false witness, thou shalt not desire, and so forth: if there be any other commandment, they are all comprehended in this saying, "Love thine neighbor as thyself." ¹⁰ Love hurteth not his neighbor: Therefore is love the fulfilling of the law.

² Let every man please his neighbor unto his wealth and edifying.

¹⁴ For all the law is fulfilled in one word, which is this, "Thou shalt love thine neighbour as thyself."

¹⁰ While we have, therefore, time; let us do good unto all men, and specially, unto them which are of the household of faith.

⁸ If ye fulfil the royal law — according to the scripture which saith, "Thou shalt love thine neighbour as thyself" — ye do well.
