⁷ and lest I should be exalted above measure by the extraordinary revelations I have had, I was afflicted in my person, so that the messenger of satan insulted me; concerning which,

⁶⁷ then they spit in his face, some beat him on the head, others slapt him on the cheeks,

¹⁶ and must not this daughter of Abraham, whom satan has held bound these eighteen years, be disengag'd from this bond, on a sabbath-day?

¹¹ to this very day we suffer both hunger, thirst, and penury: we are buffeted from place to place, as vagabonds:

⁵ to deliver him up to satan, to suffer corporal punishment, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus Christ.

⁵ to level all the barriers they contrive for obstructing the divine doctrine, and to make their pride captive to the authority of Christ.

²⁰ if a man impose upon you, if he preys upon you, if he makes a gain of you, if a man insults you, if he disgracefully assaults you, I mean it as to their reproaches, you take it all;

¹³ It is not you that have done me any injury: tho' you knew through what infirmity of the flesh I heretofore preached the gospel to you,

⁶ nor must he be a new convert; for fear he should be elated with pride, and so involve himself in the same ruin as the devil.
