³ don't be led into any mistake, because the previous rebellion does not yet appear, nor the man of sin throw off the disguise, that offspring of perdition:

⁴ Jesus answered them, take care not to be deceived by any one: ⁵ for many shall come in my name, saying, I am the Christ: and shall deceive many. ⁶ ye shall hear likewise of wars, and rumours of wars: take care not to be disturb'd: for these things must happen, but the end of the Jewish age is not yet.

¹² by your authority I have kept them, during my being with them in the world: those that you gave me I have kept, and not one of them is lost, except the son of perdition: according as the scripture foretold.

⁹ Know you not that the unjust shall not inherit the kingdom of God? be not deceived: neither the licentious, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor the effeminate, nor the brutal,

⁶ let no man mislead you by vain reasonings: for it is for these vices, that the wrath of God lights upon the incredulous.

⁸ and then the lawless will be discover'd, whom the Lord will extirpate by the spirit of his mouth, and at his glorious advent, will intirely abolish him, ⁹ who by the instigation of satan will make his parade with various arts, with fallacious signs and prodigies, ¹⁰ and with all the vile methods of imposture, to the ruin of those, who are averse to the truth, by which they might be saved.

¹ Now the spirit says expresly, that in the latter times some shall abandon the faith, by giving credit to seducing spirits, and the doctrine concerning demons; ² broach'd by hypocrititical impostors, whose consciences are cauteriz'd, ³ interdicting marriage; and the use of animal food; which God created for the repast of the faithful, who embrace the truth with thankfulness.

¹ Take notice that in the latter days difficult incidents will arise; ² for men will be selfish, avaricious, vain, proud, slanderers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, ³ villainous, unnatural, perfidious, defamers, debauchees,

³ for the time will come, when they will not endure sound doctrine, but get teachers of their own corrupt taste, to sooth their ears that itch for flattery: ⁴ which, while they are deaf to the truth, attentively listen to fables.

¹⁸ Dear children, the last time is come: as ye have heard that antichrist was to come, accordingly many antichrists have already appeared; whereby we know that we are now in the last times.

⁵ there was given to him a mouth speaking great things, and blasphemy; and power was given to him for two and forty months. ⁶ and he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and those that dwell in heaven,

¹¹ Then I beheld another beast coming out of the earth, it had two horns like a lamb, but it spake like a dragon. ¹² he exercised all the power of the first beast by his authority, and caused the earth, and those who dwell therein, to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. ¹³ he perform'd great wonders, so as to make fire come down from heaven on the earth, in the sight of men. ¹⁴ and he deceived the inhabitants of the earth, by the prodigys which he had power to effect by the influence of the beast, by telling the inhabitants of the earth, that he had made an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, but yet did revive. ¹⁵ he had power likewise to animate the image made for the beast, so that the image was made to speak, and as many as would not worship the image were order'd to be killed. ¹⁶ he likewise obliged all, both small and great, rich and poor, the freeman and the slave, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: and order'd, ¹⁷ that no body should buy or sell unless he had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. ¹⁸ here is wisdom. let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is six hundred sixty six.

⁸ the beast that thou sawest, was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, shall wonder when they behold the beast that was, and is not, but shall be.

¹¹ the beast that was, and is not, is himself the eighth: he is of the seven, and shall be destroy'd.
