1 Now before the feast of the passover, Jesus perceiving that his hour was come, when he was to pass out of this world, and go to the father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
2 while they were at supper, (the devil having now put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him) Jesus,
3 though he knew that the father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and was going to God,
4 rose from supper, laid aside his garment, and took a towel to wrap about him.
5 after that, he poured water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.
6 then coming to Simon Peter, Peter said to him, Lord, what! would you wash my feet?
7 Jesus answered him, you don't at present comprehend what I am about: but hereafter you shall.
8 Peter said to him, you shall never wash my feet. Jesus answered, if I do not cleanse thee, you cannot partake with me.
9 Simon Peter said to him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.
10 Jesus said to him, he that comes out from bathing has occasion only to wash his feet, the rest of his body being clean: so you are clean, but not every one of you.
11 for he knew who would betray him; therefore, said he, you are not every one of you clean.
12 after he had washed their feet, he took his garment, and setting down again, he said to them, do you comprehend what I have been doing?
13 you call me master, and lord: and you are in the right; for so I am.
14 if I then, tho' lord and master, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet.
15 for I have given you example, that you might behave to one another, as I have to you.
16 I declare unto you, the servant is not greater than his lord, neither he that is sent, greater than he that sent him.
17 if ye comprehend these things, happy are ye if ye put them in practice.
18 I say not this of you all; for I know whom I have chosen: and that passage of the scripture must be fulfilled, "He that eateth bread with me, hath lift up his heel against me."
19 I tell it you now before it happens, that when it is come to pass, you may believe that I am the Messias.
20 I declare unto you, he that receiveth him that I send, receiveth me: and he that receiveth me, receiveth him that sent me.
21 When Jesus utter'd these words, he was troubled in spirit, and said without disguise, I assure you, that one of you shall betray me.
22 then the disciples looked one on another, being in pain to know who he meant.
23 now the favourite disciple of Jesus sat next to him at table.
24 Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, to ask who it was he meant.
25 then accordingly bending his head to Jesus's ear, he whisper'd, Lord, who is it?
26 Jesus answered, he it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have made it. and when he had made the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
27 and after he had taken the sop, Satan entred into him. then said Jesus to him, what you do, do quickly.
28 but the company at table did not know what he meant by saying so.
29 for as Judas had the purse, some of them thought, that Jesus had ordered him to buy what was necessary against the feast: or give something to the poor.
30 Judas then having received the sop, immediately went out: and it was night.
31 When he was gone, Jesus said, now is the son of man glorified, and God is glorified by him.
32 as God is glorified by him, so God will glorify him in himself, and will immediately glorify him.
33 my dear children, I am with you but for a little while. you shall seek me: but as I said to the Jews, so now I say to you, "where I am going you cannot come."
34 a new commandment I give unto you, "that ye love one another; that you would have the same love for one another as I have had for you."
35 by this mutual love shall all men know that you are my disciples.
36 Simon Peter said to him, Lord, where are you going? Jesus answered him, you cannot at present follow me, where I am going; but hereafter you shall.
37 Peter said to him, Lord, why can't I follow you now? I will lay down my life for your sake.
38 Jesus answered him, you lay down your life for my sake! Verily, verily I say unto thee, the cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.

24 father, I desire that they also whom thou hast given me, may be with me where I am going; that they may behold my glory which thou hast given me: for thou didst love me before the foundation of the world; yet,
Hebrews 1:2-3
2 whom he hath constituted heir of all things, by whom also be made the world.
3 who being the radiation of his glory, and the imprest image of his substance, and governing all things by his powerful command, after having himself made expiation for our sins, sat down on the right hand of the divine majesty in the highest heavens.
1 Peter 3:22
22 who being ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of God, where angels, dominations, and potentates have been subjected to him.

John 7:33-34
John 8:21-24
John 12:35-36
35 Jesus answer'd them, yet a little while is the light with you: walk while ye have the light, lest darkness surprize you: for he that walketh in darkness, does not know whither he goes.
36 while ye have the light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. after having said these things, Jesus retir'd, and conceal'd himself from them.
John 14:4-6
John 14:19
19 yet a little while, and the world shall see me no more: but ye shall see me: because I shall live again, and ye shall live also.
John 16:16-22
16 Within a little while ye shall not see me: but within a little while ye shall see me again, because I am going to the father.
17 then said some of his disciples among themselves, what is the meaning of his saying, "within a little while ye shall not see me: but within a little while ye shall see me again, because I am going to the father?"
18 for, said they, we cannot comprehend the meaning of that expression, "within a little while?"
19 now Jesus perceiving that they had a mind to ask him, said to them, are you sollicitous about what I said, "within a little while ye shall not see me: but within a little while ye shall see me again?"
20 verily, verily I say unto you, that ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
21 a woman when she is in travail, is afflicted at the approach of her pains: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, the remembrance of her anguish, is lost in her joy, that a man is born into the world.
22 so you are afflicted at present: but I will see you again, and then shall your hearts be affected with joy, and your joy shall no one wrest from you.

1 Corinthians 12:26-27
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
4 Social affection is patient, is kind; is a stranger to envy; is not insolently vain, nor arrogant: does not behave indecently,
5 is not self-interested, is not easily provoked, nor suspects any ill;
6 it does not countenance injustice, but smiles upon virtue;
7 it excuses all things, believes what is favourable, hopes for the best, and suffers the worst.
Galatians 5:13-14
Galatians 5:22
22 but the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, sweetness of disposition, beneficence, faithfulness, meekness, temperance:

2 bear with one another's infirmities, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
Galatians 6:10
10 therefore as we have opportunity, let us do good offices to all men, especially to the family of believers.
Philippians 2:1-5
1 If then there be any christian consolation, any charitable relief, any communion of the spirit, if any tenderness of compassion,
2 compleat my joy, by pursuing the same view, living in mutual love, by being unanimous, and cultivating that harmony.
3 Do nothing out of a spirit of contention, or for vain-glory, but modestly look upon others as if they were better than yourselves.
4 let no man consult only his private interest, but let every man consult likewise the interest of others.
5 for the same temper of mind ought to be in you as was in Christ Jesus:
Colossians 1:4
4 having heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the affection you have to all christians;
Colossians 3:12-13
12 be you therefore adorn'd with a compassionate temper, with benevolence, humility, meekness, patience as becometh saints and chosen favourites of God:
13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, when one has any cause of complaint against another: as the Lord forgave you, do you likewise forgive.
1 Thessalonians 3:12
12 may the Lord make you increase and abound in mutual love, in love towards all men, as we do towards you:
1 Thessalonians 4:9-10
2 Thessalonians 1:3
3 We are oblig'd, my brethren, to render thanks to God continually upon your account, as it is but just; since your faith still improves, and your mutual love is always increasing.

1 Let brotherly love still reign.

22 You that have purified your souls by the holy spirit, in obeying the gospel, which obliges you to an undisguised benevolence, let your hearts be mutually affected with the most disinterested ardour;
1 Peter 3:8-9
8 In a word, live all of you in perfect agreement and sympathy, be full of fraternal love, compassion, and affability.
9 don't return evil for evil, nor calumny for calumny; on the contrary, bestow your benedictions, considering that your vocation obliges you thereto, as a means to obtain the divine blessing.

7 to piety, fraternal affection: and to fraternal affection, universal benevolence.
1 John 2:7-10
7 My brethren, I don't prescribe you any new commandment, but the antient precept which you had from the beginning: and that is no other than the word which was originally delivered.
8 however, it is really, in effect, a new commandment I write unto you, with respect to you: because the darkness is past, and things now appear in their true light.
9 he that says, he is in the light, and yet hates his brother, is still in darkness.
10 he that loves his brother, abides in the light, and will be secure from stumbling.
1 John 3:11
11 for this is the doctrine that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.
1 John 3:14-18
14 as for us, we know, that we have passed from a state of death to that of life, because we love our brethren: he that does not love his brother, is in a destructive state.
15 whosoever hateth his brother, has the disposition of a murderer: and you know that no murderer has any title to eternal life.
16 this is the proof of the divine love, Christ expos'd his life for us: and we ought to expose our lives for the brethren.
17 he that possesses the enjoyments of life, and seeing his brother in want, has no compassion for him, how can he be said to have any divine love?
18 my dear children, let not our love be only in the language of our lips, but in the real effects of the heart.
1 John 3:23
23 now this is his commandment, that we believe in his son Jesus Christ, and that we love one another, as he commanded us.
1 John 4:7-11
7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth, is born of God, and knoweth God.
8 he that has not social affection, does not know God; for God is love.
9 by this was the love of God displayed towards us, in that God sent his only begotten son into the world, that we might live thro' him.
10 and what heightens his love, was this, that it was not we who first loved God, but it was he that first loved us, and sent his son to expiate our sins.
11 beloved, if God so loved us, we ought to love one another.
1 John 4:21-5:1
21 besides, 'tis a commandment we have receiv'd from him, that he who would love God, must love his brother also.
2 John 1:5
5 and now, my lady, I beg our love may be mutual, since what I write, is no new prescription, but what was originally enjoin'd.
Acts 4:32-35
32 Now the whole body of believers were but one heart, and one soul: no one look'd upon what he possessed, as his own, but every thing was held in common.
33 Great was the power by which the apostles attested the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and they were all greatly favoured by the people.
34 for there was no poor among them, because as many as bad lands or houses, sold them, and brought the value,
35 which they laid down at the apostles feet: and they distributed it to every man as his occasions required.
Acts 5:12-14
12 Thus were many signs and wonders wrought among the people, by the apostles, who us'd to meet in Solomon's porch with great unanimity:
13 but the people who reverenc'd them,
14 did not venture to approach near them. the number of those who believed in the Lord, both men and women, increas'd more and more.
1 John 2:5
5 but he that observes his precepts, loves God with a true and perfect love: 'tis by this we know that we are truly christians.
1 John 2:10
10 he that loves his brother, abides in the light, and will be secure from stumbling.
1 John 3:10-14
10 In this the children of God are distinguished from the children of the devil: he that does not practise virtue, and fraternal benevolence, is not of God.
11 for this is the doctrine that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.
12 not acting like Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother: but why did he slay him? because his own actions were evil, and his brother's were virtuous.
13 Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.
14 as for us, we know, that we have passed from a state of death to that of life, because we love our brethren: he that does not love his brother, is in a destructive state.
1 John 4:20-21

32 but after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.
33 Peter thereupon said, tho' all the rest should abandon you, I never will.
34 Jesus replied, I tell you for certain, that this night before the time of cock-crowing, thou shalt abjure me thrice.
35 but Peter said, though it should cost me my life, I never will disown you. and so said all the disciples.
Mark 14:27-31
27 and Jesus said to them, this night you will all be staggered upon my account: for it is written, "I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered."
28 but after I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee.
29 upon which Peter said to him, tho' all should stagger, yet I will not.
30 Jesus said to him, verily I tell thee, to-day, even this night, before the cock crow twice, you will renounce me thrice.
31 but he urg'd it with more vehemence, tho' I should die with you, I will not renounce you. and all the rest affirm'd the same.
Luke 22:31-34
31 Then said Jesus, Simon, Simon, satan has demanded to shake you, and my disciples, like wheat in a sieve.
32 but as for thee, I have pray'd that you faith may not fail. do you in return establish thy brethren.

70 but he denied it before them all, saying, I know nothing of the matter.
71 and when he was going out at the porch, another maid saw him, and said to those that were by, this fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth.
72 but he denied it again, and swore I don't know the man.
73 soon after they that stood by coming up, said to Peter, certainly you are one of them, for thy speech bewrays thee.
74 then he fell to solemn imprecations, and swore, "I don't know the man." and immediately the cock crew:

68 but he denied it, saying, I don't know him, neither am I acquainted with any such you mention. and he went out into the porch, when the cock crow'd.
69 the maid saw him a second time, and said to the standers-by, this is one of them:
70 but he denied it again. a little time after, they that stood by, still urg'd Peter, saying, you are certainly one of his disciples, for your speech shows you to be a Galilean.

59 about an hour after another confidently affirm'd, saying, this fellow was certainly with him; for he too is a Galilean.
60 Peter reply'd, man, I don't know what you would say, and immediately while he was yet speaking, the cock crew.
