⁴⁰ in answer to his doubts, Jesus said, Simon, I have something to say to you. master, said he, lets hear it.

²² many will cry out to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? have we not cast out devils in thy name? and in thy name have we not wrought many miracles?

⁴⁹ and immediately advancing to Jesus, he said, master, I salute you, and kissed him.

²² but Jesus perceiving their reflexions, said to them, what do you mean by such insinuations?

³¹ but Jesus replied, they that are in health don't want a physician: but they that are sick.

⁸ but as he knew their thoughts, he said to the man, whose hand was paralytic, rise up, and stand there in the middle. and he arose, and stood before him.

¹⁸ Then a person of distinction ask'd him this question, good master, what must I do to inherit eternal life?

²⁰ they watch'd then, and suborn'd spies, who under pretence of their tender consciences, might ensnare him in his discourse, and so betray him to the civil power and jurisdiction of the governor. ²¹ they address'd him therefore in this manner; master, we know that what you say and teach is all right. you are not influenc'd by the quality of men, but explain the divine law with sincerity:

² who came to Jesus by night, and said to him, rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher sent from God: for no man can perform the miracles that you do, except God be with him.

¹³ you call me master, and lord: and you are in the right; for so I am.

¹⁹ now Jesus perceiving that they had a mind to ask him, said to them, are you sollicitous about what I said, "within a little while ye shall not see me: but within a little while ye shall see me again?"

³⁰ now we are convinc'd that you know all our difficulties, and have no occasion that any man should propose them to you: by this we believe that you were sent from God.
