⁵⁰ for whosoever shall do the will of my father, who is in heaven, he is my brother, and sister, and mother.

²⁰ by their fruits then shall ye know them. ²¹ Not every one that says to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven: but only they who do the will of my Father who is in heaven.

⁵ while he was speaking, a bright cloud surrounded them: and suddenly a voice broke out of the cloud, saying, "this is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him."

⁴⁰ and the king will reply, I declare unto you, your having done this for one of the least of these my brethren, is the same thing as doing it for me.

⁴⁵ to this he will reply, I declare unto you, your not doing this for one of the least of these, is the same thing as not doing it for me.

¹⁰ then said Jesus to them, be not afraid: go bid my brethren repair to Galilee, and there shall they see me.

³⁵ for he that does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother.

²¹ but he answered them, my mother and brethren are these, who attend to the word of God, and practise it.

²⁷ As he was discoursing thus, a certain woman in the middle of the crowd lift up her voice, and said to him, happy the mother, who bare thee: happy the nurse, who gave thee milk. ²⁸ but rather, said he, happy are they who hear the word of God, and put it in practice.

²⁹ Jesus answered them, the work which God requires is to believe on him whom he hath sent.

⁴⁰ I say, is the will of him that sent me, that every one who observes the son, and believeth on him, should have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

¹⁴ you will be my friends, if you do what I have commanded you.

²⁶ when Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing by, he said to his mother, woman, behold thy son. ²⁷ then he said to the disciple, behold thy mother. and from that time the disciple took her to his own home.

¹⁷ that is to say, master! Jesus said to her, touch me not: for I am not yet ascended to my father: but go to my brethren, and say to them, "I ascend unto my father and your father, even my God and your God."

²² for Moses said to the fathers, "a prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you, of your brethren, like unto me; observe whatever he shall say to you. ²³ and whoever he be that will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people."

³⁰ and bringing them out, he said, sirs, what must I do to be saved? ³¹ believe, said they, on the Lord Jesus, and you shall be saved, you, and your family.

³⁰ God has been pleas'd to over-look this state of ignorance: but now he enjoins all men every where to repent:

²⁰ first I warn'd the people of Damascus, of Jerusalem, of all Judea, and then the Gentiles, to repent, and turn to God, by acting suitably to their repentance.

²⁹ for whom he before approv'd, he predispos'd to follow the example of his son, who was to conduct them all as their elder brother;

⁵ have not we the liberty to take a christian woman with us in our travels, as well as the rest of the apostles, as the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas did?

² for I am jealous over you with religious jealousy: since I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

⁶ for in the christian-dispensation, neither circumcision avails any thing, nor uncircumcision, but an active benevolent faith.

¹⁵ for in the dispensation of Jesus Christ, neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but the new creation.

²⁵ You husband, love your spouse, even as Christ loved the church, and laid down his life for her: ²⁶ to sanctify and purify her by the ablution of his word, ²⁷ that he himself might make her appear illustrious to his own eye, a church without spot, or any thing like a defect; so as to be holy and irreprehensible.

¹¹ by which there is now neither Greek, or Jew; circumcised, or uncircumcised; Barbarian, or Scythian; slave, or freeman; but Christ is all, and in all.

² the elder women as mothers; the younger, as sisters, with all purity.

¹¹ for both he that sanctifieth, and they who are sanctified, are all deriv'd from one: for which cause he is not asham'd to call them brethren, saying, ¹² "I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee." ¹³ and again, "I will put my trust in him." and again, "behold, I, and the children which God hath given me. ¹⁴ Since then the children were made subject to a state of mortality, so he himself likewise was subject to the same condition: that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; ¹⁵ and deliver them who thro' fear of death were all their life-time in a state of slavery. ¹⁶ for he is not the deliverer of angels; but the deliverer of Abraham's posterity. ¹⁷ whence it was necessary he should be in all things like his brethren; that he might be a merciful high priest, and faithfully discharge the divine office of expiating the sins of the people.

⁹ and by a perfect obedience he procured eternal salvation for all that obey him;

²¹ throw off then your vices as dregs and scum: and receive with docility that genuine doctrine, which is effectual to your salvation. ²² Don't delusively content your selves with being of the audience, but put what you hear in practice:

² so that for the future he does not pass the rest of this life in gratifying his sensual passions, but in conformity to the divine precepts.

¹⁷ and the world is passing away, with all its vices: but he that obeys the divine will, shall enjoy a life of immortality.

²³ now this is his commandment, that we believe in his son Jesus Christ, and that we love one another, as he commanded us. ²⁴ he that observes his commandments, dwelleth in God, and God in him: and hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the spirit which he hath given us.

¹⁴ blessed are they who wash their robes, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city."
