¹⁰ then shall many relapse, and shall pursue one another with mutual treachery and hatred.

²¹ then the brother shall betray his brother to death, and the father his child: and children shall rise up against their parents, and be the instruments of their death.

³⁵ my coming will occasion discord between the son and his father, between the daughter and her mother, between the daughter in law and her mother in law: ³⁶ even a man's own domestics shall prove his foes.

⁶ and happy is he who does not stumble at my appearance.

²¹ but having no root in him he has only an occasional faith: for as soon as any oppression or persecution arises upon account of the gospel, he presently relapses.

⁵⁷ and they were scandaliz'd at him. but Jesus said to them, a prophet is not without honour, except in his own country and in his own family.

³¹ then said Jesus to them, I shall be the occasion of your revolting all from me this night: for it is written, "I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered." ³² but after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee. ³³ Peter thereupon said, tho' all the rest should abandon you, I never will. ³⁴ Jesus replied, I tell you for certain, that this night before the time of cock-crowing, thou shalt abjure me thrice.

¹⁷ but having no root at the bottom, they are only occasional professors, for if they meet with any trouble or persecution upon account of the word, immediately they revolt.

¹⁶ you will be betrayed even by your very parents, and brethren, and kindred, and friends. nay, some of you they will prosecute even to death.

⁶⁰ when many of his disciples, who heard him, said, this is strange doctrine, who can hear it? ⁶¹ Jesus perceiving in himself, that his disciples murmured at it, said to them, doth this offend you?

⁶⁶ From that time many of his disciples withdrew, and associated no longer with him. ⁶⁷ upon which Jesus said to the twelve, will not ye likewise go away?
