²¹ Nether turne ye after vayne thynges which cannot delyuer you, for they are but vanities.

¹⁶ But beware that youre hertes deceyue you not that ye turne asyde and serue straunge Gods & worshyp them,

²¹ They haue angred me wt that which is no God, & prouoked me wyth theyr vanities. And I agayne wyll anger them wyth them whiche are no people, and wyl prouoke them wyth a folysh nation.

⁴ Their ymages are but syluer and gold, euen the worke of mens handes. ⁵ They haue mouthes, and speake not: eies haue they, but they se not. ⁶ Thei haue eares, and heare not: noses haue they, but they smell not. ⁷ They haue handes, and handle not, fete haue they, but they cannot goo, neyther can they speake thorow their throte. ⁸ They that made them, are lyke vnto them and so are all suche as put theyr truste in them.

²³ Ether, let them shewe vs thynges for to come, and tell vs what shalbe done her after: so shal we knowe, that they be goddes. Shewe somthing, ether good or bad: so wyll we both knowledge the same, and tell it out. ²⁴ Beholde, ye goddes are of naugth, & your makynge is of naught but abhomynacyon hath chosen you.

²⁹ Lo, wicked are they and vayne, with the thynges also that they take in hande: yee wynde are they, and emptynesse, with theyr ymages together.

⁹ Wherfore all caruers of Idoles are but vayne, & their labour lost. They must beare recorde them selues, that (seyng they came nether se ner vnderstande) they shalbe confounded. ¹⁰ Who shulde now make a God, or fashion an Idole, that is profytable for nothynge?

²⁰ Let them be gathered and come together, lett them drawe nye hyther, that are escaped of the people: Haue they eny vnderstandynge, that set vp the stockes of their Idols, & praie vnto a God, that cannot helpe them?

⁷ Yet muste he be taken on mens shoulders & borne, & set in hys place that he maye stande and not moue. Alas that men shulde crye vnto hym, which geueth no answere: and delyuereth not the man that calleth vpon hym, from hys trouble.

⁵ Thus sayeth the Lorde vnto you. What vnfaythfulnesse founde youre fathers in me, that they wente so farre awaye from me, fallinge to lightnesse, and beynge so vaine?

¹³ For my people hath done two euyls. They haue forsaken me the well of the water of life and dygged them pyttes, yea vyle & broken pittes, that holde no water.

⁸ They are all together vnlearned and vnwyse. All theyr conninge is but vanyte:

¹⁵ The vayne craftesmen with theyr worckes, that they in theyr vanite haue made, shall peryshe one with another in the tyme of vysitacyon.

²² Are there eny amonge the goddes of the Gentiles that sende rayne or geue the showers of heauen? Doest not thou it O Lorde oure God, in whom we trust? Yee Lorde, thou doest all these thinges.

¹⁹ O Lorde, my strength, my power, and refuge in tyme of trouble. The Gentyles shall come vnto the from the endes of the worlde, and saye: Verely our fathers haue cleued vnto lyes, their Idols are but vayne & vnprofitable.

⁸ They that holde of vayue vanyties, will forsake hys mercy.

¹⁸ What helpe then wyll the Image do, whom the worckman hath fashyoned? Or the vayne cast Image, wherein because the craftesman putteth hys trust, therfore maketh he domme Idols?

⁴ To speake of meate dedicate vnto Idols, we are sure that there is none Idol in the world and that there is none other God but one.
