¹ In those dayes as the numbre of the disciples grewe, ther arose a a grudge amonge the Grekes agaynste the Hebrues, because their widdowes were despysed in the dayly ministracion. ² Then the twelue called the multitude of the dysciples together and saide: it is not mete that we shoulde leaue the worde of God and serue at the tables. ³ Wherfore brethren, loke ye out amonge you seuen men of honeste reporte, and full of the holye ghoste and wysdome, whyche we maye apoint to this nedfull busines. ⁴ But we wyl geue our selues continually to prayer, and to the ministracion of the word. ⁵ And the saiynge pleased the whole multitude. And they chose Stephan a man full of faieth and of the holye ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nichanor, and Timon, and Permenas, and Nicholas a conuerte of Antioche. ⁶ Whiche they set before the Apostles, and they praied and laide their handes on them. ⁷ And the worde of God encreased, and the numbre of the disciples multiplyed in Hierusalem greatly, and a great companye of the priestes were obedient to the faith. ⁸ And Stephane ful of fayth and power, dyd greate wounders and miracles amonge the people. ⁹ Then arose certaine of the Synagoge, whyche are called Lybertines and Syrenites, and of Alexandria, and of Cilicia, and Asia, and disputed with Stephan. ¹⁰ And they could not resist the wysdome, and the spyryte wt whyche he spake. ¹¹ Then sent they in men, whiche said: we haue heard him speake blasphemous wordes against Moyses and against God. ¹² And they moued the people and the elders and the scribes: and came vpon him and caught hym, ¹³ and brought him to the counsell and brought forth false witnesses whiche sayde. This man ceaseth not to speake blaspemous wordes against thys holy place, and the lawe, ¹⁴ for we hearde him saie: this Iesus of Nazareth shall destroye this place, and shal chaung the ordinaunces, which Moises gaue vs. ¹⁵ And al that sate in the counsel loked stedfastlye on hym, and saw hys face as it had bene the face of an aungel.

³⁷ And the sayinge pleased Pharao & all his seruauntes. ³⁸ Than sayde Pharao vnto hys seruauntes: where shal we fynde soch a man as thys is, that hath the sprete of GOD in hym? ³⁹ wherfore Pharao sayde vnto Ioseph: for as moch as God hath shewed the al this, there is no man of vnderstandyng or of wysdome lyke vnto the.

¹² Go therfore and I wilbe with thy mouth, and teach the what thou shalte saye.

Be thou vnto the people to Godward, and bryng the causes vnto God ²⁰ and prouide them ordinaunces & lawes, and shewe them the waye wherin they must walke and the workes that they must do. ²¹ Moreouer seke oute amonge all the people, men of actiuitie which feare God and men that are true and hate coueteousnes: & make them heades ouer the people, captaines ouer thousandes, ouer hundredes, ouer fifty & ouer ten. ²² And let them iudge the people at all seasons: If there be any great matter let theym bringe that vnto the, & let them iudge al smal causes them selfes, & ease thy selfe & let them bere with the. ²³ If thou shalt do this thing, then thou shalt be able to endure that which God chargeth the with all, & all this people shall go to their places quietly. ²⁴ And Moses hearde the voyce of his father in lawe, and dyd all that he had sayd, ²⁵ & chose actyue men out of all Israel and made them heades ouer the people, captaynes ouer thousandes, ouer hundreds, ouer fiftye and ouer ten. ²⁶ And thei iudged the people at all seasons, & brought the harde causes vnto Moyses: & iudged all small matters them selfes.

²⁹ And Moses came doune from mount Synay & the .ij. tables of wytnesse in his hande, & yet the wyst not that the skynne of his face shone wyth beames of hys comenyng with hym. ³⁰ And when Aaron and all the chyldren of Israel loked vpon Moses and sawe that the skynne of his face shone with beames they were afrayde to come nye hym. ³¹ But he called them to hym, and then Aaron & all the chefe of the company came vnto him, & Moses talked with them. ³² And at the last al the chyldren of Israel came vnto him, and he commaunded them all that the Lord had sayde vnto him in mounte Sinai. ³³ And as soone as he had made an ende of comenyng wyth them, he put a coueryng vpon his face. ³⁴ But when he went before the Lorde to speake wyth him, he toke the coueryng of vntyll he came out. And he came out & spake vnto the chyldren of Israel that whych he was commaunded. ³⁵ And the chyldren of Israel sawe the face of Moses, that the skynne of hys face shone with beames: but Moses put a coueryng vpon hys face, vntyl he went into comen with hym.

¹⁶ And he that blasphemeth the name of the Lord, shall dye for it: all the multitude shall stone him to death. And the straunger as well as the Israelyte if he curse the name, shal dye for it.

¹¹ And Moses sayde vnto the Lorde: wherfore dealest thou so cruelly wyth thy seruaunte? wherfore do I not fynde fauoure in thi sight seynge that thou puttest the weyght of thys people vpon me? ¹² haue I conceyued all thys people, or haue I begotte them, that thou shouldest saye vnto me, carye them in thy bosome (as a nurse beareth the suckyng chyld) vnto the land whych thou swarest vnto their fathers? ¹³ where shoulde I haue flesh to geue vnto al this people? For they wepe vnto me sayinge: geue vs fleshe that we maye eate.

¹⁶ And the Lorde sayde vnto Moses: gether vnto me .lxx. of the elders of Israel, which thou knowest that they are the elders of the people and offycers ouer them, & brynge them vnto the tabernacle of wytnesse, and let them stande there with the. ¹⁷ And I wil come doune and talke wyth the there, and take of the spirite which is vpon the and put vpon the and vpon them and they shall bere wyth the in burthen of the people, and so shalt thou not beare alone. ¹⁸ And say vnto the people: halowe your selues against to morow that ye may eate flesh for ye haue whyned in the eares of the Lord saying: who shal geue vs flesh to eate, for we were happye when we were in Egypt? therfore the Lord wil geue you flesh, and ye shal eate: ¹⁹ Ye shall not eate one daye onlye ether two or fyue dayes, ether .x. or .xx. dayes: ²⁰ but euen a moneth longe, and vntyl it come oute at the nostrels of you, that ye be ready to parbrake: because that ye haue cast that Lorde asyde whyche is among you, and haue wepte before hym sayinge: why came we oute of Egypte. ²¹ And Moses saide: syxe hundred thousand fotemen are there of the people, among whiche I am. And thou hast sayde: I wyll geue them flesh and they shall eate a moneth longe. ²² Shal the shepe and the oxen be slayne for them to fynde them, ether shal al the fysh of the sea be gathered together to serue them? ²³ And the Lord sayd vnto Moses: is the Lordes hande waxed shorte. Thou shalt se whether my worde shall come to passe vnto the or not. ²⁴ And Moses went out and tolde the people the saying of the Lorde, and gethered the .lxx. elders of the people, and set them round aboute the tabernacle. ²⁵ And the Lorde came doune in a cloude & spake vnto him, and toke of the sprete that was vpon him, and put it vpon the .lxx. elders. And as the spirite rested vpon them, they prophecied & dyd nought els.

¹⁸ And the Lord said to Moses: take Iosua the sonne of Nun in whom there is a spirite, & put thine handes vpon him, ¹⁹ and set hym before Eleazar the prieste and before all the congregation and gyue him a charge in their syght.

⁹ And I sayde vnto you the same season: I am not able to beare you my selfe alon ¹⁰ For the Lorde youre God hath multiplyed you: so that ye are this day as the starres of heauen in nombr ¹¹ (the Lorde God of youre fathers make you a thousande tymes so many moo as ye are, & blesse you as he hath promysed you) ¹² how (sayde I) can I my selfe alone, beare the combraunce, charge & stryfe that is amonge you: ¹³ brynge therfore men of wisedome & of vnderstandynge & expert: knowen amonge youre trybes, that I maye make them ruelars ouer you,

¹² When thou hast made an ende of tything all the tythes of thyne encrease the thyrde yere, the yere of tythyuge: and hast geuen it vnto the Leuyte, the straunger, the fatherlesse and the wydowe, and they haue eaten in thy gates and fylled them selues.

¹⁰ and set two vnthriftes before him: and let them testifye agaynst hym sayinge: thou dyddest curse bothe God and the king: & vpon that carie him out & stone hym to death. ¹¹ And the elders and nobles of the cities, whiche dwelt in hys citie, did as Iezabell had sent vnto them, and as it was written in the letter, whiche she had sent vnto them. ¹² They proclamed fastynge, and set Naboth an hye amonge the people, ¹³ and there came in two vnthriftye persones and sate before him. And the two vnthriftye persones wytnesseth agaynst Naboth before the people sayinge: Naboth dyd curse God and the kinge. And vpon the they caryed him out of the cytye and stoned him wyth stones to death.

³⁴ But the preastes were to few, and were not ably to fleye all the burntoffrynges. Wherefore theyre brethren the Leuites holpe them tyll the worke was ended, and vntill the preastes were sanctifyed. For the Leuites were purer herted to sanctifie them selues then the preastes.

²⁴ For Hezekiah kynge of Iuda gaue for heaue offrynges to the congregacion a thousand oxen and seuen thousand shepe. And the Lorde gaue to the congregacyon for heaueoffrynges a thousand oxen and ten thousand shepe. And the preastes sanctifyed them selues, that they were ynowe.

³ Notwythstandynge I sente messengers vnto them, sayinge: I haue a greate busynes to do, I can not come doune. The worcke shuld stand styll, yf I were negligent, and came doune to you.

³ In the daye of thy power shal thy people offer the frewyll offerynges wyth an holye worshyppe, the dewe of thy byrthe is of the wombe of the mornynge.

⁹ Let thy Preastes be clothed wyth rightuousnesse, and let thy saynctes reioyse.

¹⁶ I wyl decke her Preastes with health and her saynctes shall reioyse and be glad.

¹⁸ An angry man stereth vp strife, but he that is pacient stilleth discord.

²³ O howe ioyfull a thing is it, a man to geue a conuenyente answere? O how pleasaunt is a word spoken in due season.

¹¹ A worde speken in due season, is lyke apples of golde in a syluer dish. ¹² The correction of the wise is to an obedient eare, a golden cheine & a Iewel of gold.

¹ wher as no man hath wysdome and vnderstandynge, to geue answere thereunto. Wysdome maketh a mans face to shyne, but malyce putteth it oute of fauoure.

¹⁷ Lerne to do right, applye youre selues to equite, delyuer the oppressed, helpe the fatherlesse to hys ryght, let the wyddowes complaynte come before you.

² The spyryt of the Lorde shall lyghte vpon it, the spyryte of wisedome and vnderstandynge: the spirit of councell, & strength: the spirite of knowledge, and of the feare of God: ³ and shall make him feruent in the feare of God. For he shall not geue sentence, after the thinge that shall be brought before his eyes, neyther reproue a matter at the fyrst hearing ⁴ but wyth ryghteousnesse shall he iudge the poore, and with holynes shal he refourme the symple of the worlde. He shall smyte the worlde wyth the staffe of hys mouthe, & with the breathe of his mouth shall he slay the wicked. ⁵ Ryghteousnesse shalbe the gyrdle of his loynes, truthe & faythfulnesse, the gyrdynge vp of hys raynes.

⁶ It wyll come to thys poynte, that Iacob shalbe roted agayne, & Israel shallbe grene, and beare floures, and they shall fyll the whole worlde with theyr frute.

¹⁷ but al the weapens that are made agaynste the, shal not prospere. And as for all tunges, that shall resiste the in iudgement, thou shalte ouercome them, and condempne them. This is the herytage of the Lordes seruauntes, and the ryghtuousnes that they shal haue of me, sayeth the Lorde.

¹⁵ Youre name shal not be sworne by amonge my chosen, for God the Lorde shall slay you, and cal his seruauntes by another name.

And where shalbe the place, that I dwell in? ² As for these thynges, my hande had made them all, and they are all created, sayeth the Lorde. Whyche of them shall I then regarde? Euen hym, that is of a lowly troubled spyryte, and standeth in awe of my wordes. ³ For who so slaieth an oxe for me, doth me so great dishonour as he that killeth a man. He that kylleth a shepe for me, choketh a dogge. He that bryngeth me meateofferinges, offereth swynes bloude. Who so maketh me a memory all of incense, prayseth the thinge that is vnryght. Yet take they suche wayes in hand, and their soule delyteth in these abhomynacyons. ⁴ Therfore wyll I also haue pleasure in laughing him to scorne, & the thing that they feare wyll I brynge vpon them. For when I called, no man gaue answere: when I spake, they woulde not heare. But dyd wickednesse before myne eyes, and chose the thynges that displease me. ⁵ Heare the worde of God all ye, that feare the thynge whyche he speaketh. Your brethren that hate you, and cast you out for my names sake, saye: Let the Lorde magnyfye him selfe, that we may see youre gladnesse: and yet they shalbe confounded. ⁶ For as thouchinge the cytie and the temple, I heare the voyce of the Lorde, that wyll rewarde, and recompence his enemies,

¹⁹ Vnto them shall I geue a token, and geue a certayne of them (that be delyuered) amonge the Gentyles: into Celycia, Africa and Lidia (where men can handle bowes) into Italye also and Greke lande. The Iles farre of, that haue not hearde speake of me, and haue not sene my glorye, shall preache my prayse amonge the Gentyles, ²⁰ and shall bringe all oure brethren for an offerynge vnto the Lorde, oute of all people vpon horses, charettes and horse litters, vpon Males and cartes to Ierusalem my holy hill (sayeth the Lorde) like as the children of Israel brynge the offerynge in cleane vessels, to the house of the Lorde. ²¹ And I shall take oute certayne of them for to be Pryestes and Leuytes, sayeth the Lorde.

¹⁸ For beholde, this daye do I make the a strong fensed towne, an yron pyler, and a wall of stele agaynst the whole lande, against the kinges and myghtye men of Iuda, agaynste the priestes and people of the lande. ¹⁹ They shall fyght against the, but they shall not be able to ouercome the: for I am with the, to delyuer the, sayeth the Lord.

⁴ Truste not in false lyenge wordes, sayenge: here is the temple of the Lorde, here is the temple of the Lorde, here is the temple of the Lorde. ⁵ For yf ye wyll amende youre wayes & councels, yf ye wyll iudge righte betwixte a man and hys neyghboure: ⁶ yf ye wyl not oppresse the straunger, the fatherles & the wyddowe: yf ye wyll not shede innocent bloud in this place: yf ye wyll not cleue to straunge goddes to youre owne destruccyon: ⁷ then wil I let you dwell in thys place, yea in the land that I gaue afore tyme vnto youre fathers for euer. ⁸ But take hede, yea trust in councels, that begyle you & do you no good. ⁹ For when ye haue stolen, murthered, committed aduoutrye, and periury: When ye haue offred vnto Baal, folowyng straunge & vnknowne Goddes. ¹⁰ Then come ye, and stande before me in thys house, whiche hath my name geuen vnto it and say: Tush, we are absolued quite, though we haue done all these abhominacions. ¹¹ What? thincke you thys house that beareth my name, is a denne of theues? And these thinges are not done priuelye, but before myne eyes sayeth the Lorde. ¹² Go to my place in Silah, wherevnto I gaue my name afore tyme, & loke wel what I did to the same place for the wyckednes of my people of Israell. ¹³ And now, thoughe ye haue done all these dedes (sayth the Lorde) & I my selfe rose vp euer by tymes to warne you & to comen wyth you yet wolde ye not heare me: I called, ye wolde not aunswere. ¹⁴ And therfore euen as I haue done vnto Siloh, so wil I do to thys house, that my name is geuen vnto (and that ye put your trust in) ye vnto the place that I haue geuen to you & youre fathers.

²⁰ & so shall I make the a stronge wall of stele agaynst this people. They shall fyght agaynst the, but they shall not preuayle. For I my selfe will be with the, to helpe the, and delyuer the, sayeth the Lorde.

⁶ then wyll I do to this house, as I dyd vnto Siloh, and wil make this cytie to be abhorred of all the people of the earth. ⁷ And the priestes the Prophetes and all the people hearde Ieremye preache these wordes, in the house of the Lorde. ⁸ Nowe when he had spoken oute all the wordes, that the Lorde commaunded hym to preach vnto all the people, then the Priestes, the Prophetes, and all the people toke holde vpon him, and sayde: thou shalte dye. ⁹ How darrest thou be so bolde, as to saye in the name of the Lord it shall happen to thys house as it dyd vnto Siloh? and this citie shalbe so waste, that no man shall dwell therein?

¹⁸ Micheah the Morasthite, which was a Prophet vnder Ezekiah kynge of Iuda, spake to all the people of Iuda: Thus sayeth the Lorde of Hostes: Syon shalbe plowed lyke a felde, Ierusalem shalbe an heape of stones, and the hyll of the Lordes house shalbe turned to an hye wood.

¹⁹ And oute of them shall go thankesgeuynge, and the voyce of ioye. I wyll multyplye them, and they shall not mynishe: I shall endue them wyth honoure, and no man shall subdue them.

²⁷ But when I speake vnto the, then open thy mouth, and saye: Thus sayeth the Lorde God: who so heareth, lett hym heare: who so wyll not, let hym leaue: for it is an obstynate housholde.

⁷ In the haue they dispysed father & mother, in the haue they oppressed the straunger, in the haue they vexed the widdowe and the fatherlesse.

²⁶ After these .lxii. weakes shall Christ be slaine and they shall haue no pleasure in hym. Then shall there come a people with the Prince, and destroye the cytie and the Sanctuarye: & his ende shall come as the water floude. But the desolacion shall continue till the ende of the battell.

⁴ Thus the children of Israell shall syt a great whyle without king and Prince, withoute offeringe and aulter, without prest and reuelacion.

⁸ As for me, I am full of strength, and of the sprete of the Lorde, full of iudment and boldnesse: to shewe the house of Iacob their wyckednesse, and the house of Israell their synne.

² for I will gather together al the heathen, to fighte agaynste Ierusalem, so that the city shalbe woune, the houses spoyled, & the wemen defiled. The half of the city shal go away into captiuite, & the residue of the people shal not be caried out of the cyty.

⁵ I wil come and punish you, and I my selfe will be a swyf wytnes against the witches, agaynst the aduouterers, agaynste false swearers: yea, and agaynst those, that wrongeouslye kepe backe the hyrelinges dewtye: which vexe the widdowes and the fatherlesse and oppresse the straunger, and feare not me, sayeth the Lord of Hostes.

²² but I sai vnto yow, whosoeuer is angre wt his brother without a cause shal be in daunger of iudgement. Whosoeuer saieth to his brother Racha, shalbe in daunger of a counsel. But whosoeuer saieth thou fole, shalbe in daunger of hel fire

¹⁷ Beware of men, for they shall delyuer you vp to the counsels, and shall stourge you in their synagoges.

¹⁹ But when they deliuer you vp take no thought howe or what ye shall speake, for it shalbe geuen you, euen in that same houre, what ye shal saye. ²⁰ For it is not ye that speake, but the sprete of your father which speaketh in you.

⁴³ Then shall the iuste men shyne as bryght as the sunne in the kyngdom of theyr father. Whosoeuer hath eares to heare let hym heare.

¹⁵ Wo be vnto you Scribes and Phariseis hypocrites: which compasse sea and lande, to brynge one into youre belefe: and when he is brought ye make hym two folde more the chyld of hell: then ye your selues are.

³⁴ Wherfore, behold I send vnto you Prophetes, wise men, & Scribes. Of them ye shal kyl and crucifye: and of them ye shall scourge in your synagoges, and persecute from citye to citye

¹ And Iesus went out and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to hym for to shew him the building of the temple. ² Iesus sayde vnto them: Se ye not all these thinges? Verely I say vnto you there shal not be here left one stone vpon another that shall not be cast doune.

¹⁵ When ye therfore shall se the abhomination that betokeneth desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophete, stande in the holye place (let hym that readeth it, vnderstande it)

⁵⁷ Then all the disciples forsoke hym and fled. And they toke Iesus, and ledde hym to Cayphas the hye Priest, where the Scribes & the Elders were assembled.

⁵⁹ The chiefe priestes and the elders, and all the counsell, sought false wytnes agaynst Iesus, for to put hym to death, ⁶⁰ but founde none in so muche that when manye false wytnesses came yet founde they none. At the laste came two false wytnesses, ⁶¹ and sayed: Thys fellowe sayed: I can destroye the temple of God and buylde it agayne in thre dayes.

³² And as they came out, they found a man of Cyren named Symon: him they compelled to beare his crosse.

¹² And they gathered them together with the elders, and toke counsel, & gaue large money vnto the souldiers, ¹³ sayinge: Saye that his discyples came by night, & stole hym away whyle ye slept: ¹⁴ and yf thys come to the rulers eares, we wyll pease him, & saue you harmles. ¹⁵ And they toke the money & did as thei were taughte. And this saiynge is noysed amonge the Iewes vnto thys daye.

⁹ But take ye hede to your selues. For they shall brynge you vp to the counsels, and into the synagoges, & ye shall be beaten: ye & shalbe broughte forthe rulers & kynges for my sake for a testimoniall vnto them.

⁵⁸ We hearde him saye: I will destroy this temple made with handes, & within .iij. dayes I will buylde another made without handes.

¹⁷ And he shall go before hym in the spryte of power of Helyas, to turne the hertes of the fathers to the chyldren and the vnbeleuers to the wisdome of the iust men, to make the people redy for the Lord.

³⁴ And Symon blessed them, & sayd vnto Mary his mother: beholde, this chylde shalbe the fal and resurrection of manye in Israel, & sygne which shalbe spoken againste.

For I tell you, ye shal not se me vntyll the tyme come that ye shall say, blessed is he that commeth in the name of the Lorde.

⁶ The dayes will come, when of these thinges which ye se shal not be left stone vpon stone, that shall not be throwen doune.

¹² But before all these, they shall laye their handes on you and persecute you, delyueringe you vp to the Synagoges & into pryson, and bringe you before kinges and rulers for my names sake.

¹⁵ For I wyll geue you a mouthe and wisdome, where against all youre aduersaries shall not be able to speake nor resyste.

²⁴ And they shall fall on the edge of the swearde, and shalbe lead captyue into all nacyons. And Ierusalem shalbe troden vnder fote of the gentyls vntyll the tyme of the gentyls be fulfylled.

I am the sonne of God?

⁴² Neuerthelesse among the chief rulers many beleued on hym. But because of that Pharyses they woulde not be a knowen of it, least they shoulde be excommunicate,

Whome we toke, and woulde haue iudged accordynge to our law, ⁷ but the hye captayne Lysyas came vpon vs, and with great violence toke hym awaye out of our hande, ⁸ commaundyng hys accusars to come vnto the. Of whome thou mayest (yf thou wilt enquyre) knowe the certaintye of al these thynges, wherof we accuse hym. ⁹ The Iewes lykewyse affirmed, saiyng: that it was euen so. ¹⁰ Then Paule (after that the ruler him selfe had beckened vnto hym that he should speake) aunswered I shall with a more quyet mynde aunswere for my selfe, for as muche as I vnderstande that thou haste bene of manye yeares a iudge vnto thys people, ¹¹ because that thou mayest know that there are yet but .xij. dayes sence I wente vp to Ierusalem for to praye, ¹² & that they neyther founde me in the temple disputynge with anye man, eyther raysynge vp the people neither in the synagoges, nor in the citie. ¹³ Neyther can they proue the thynges wherof they accuse me.

³ and desiered fauoure agaynste him, that he would sende for him to Hierusalem: and layed awayte for him in the waye to kyl him.

⁷ When he was come, the Iewes, whiche were come from Hierusalem, came about hym and layd many and greuous complayntes agaynste Paul, whiche they could not proue ⁸ as longe as he aunswered for him selfe, that he had neither againste the lawe of the Iewes, neither againste the temple, nor yet againste Cesar, offended any thynge at al.

²⁷ For me thinketh it vnreasonable, for to sende a prysoner, & not to shewe the causes, whiche are layed againste hym.

³ namely because thou art exparte in all customes and questions, which are amonge the Iewes. Wherfore I beseche the to heare me paciently.

¹¹ And I punyshed them ofte, in euerye synagoge, and compelled them to blaspheme, and was yet more madde vpon them, and persecuted them euen vnto straunge cities.

⁵ Then sayled we ouer the sea of Cylycia, and Pamphilia, and came to Mira a citie in Lycia. ⁶ And there the vnder captaine founde a shyp of Alexander redy to sayle into Italy & put vs therin.

¹⁷ And it fortuned after thre dayes that Paul called the chiefe of the Iewes together. And when they were come, he saide vnto them: Men and brethren though I haue committed nothinge againste the people or lawes of oure fathers: yet was I deliuered prisoner from Ierusalem into the handes of the Romaynes.

⁵ by whom we haue receyued grace and Apostleshyp, to brynge all maner heathen people vnto the obedience of the fayth that is in his name:

⁹ For God is my wytnes, whom I serue wyth my spyryte in the Gospel of hys sonne, that wythout ceasinge I make mencion of you alwayes in my prayers,

⁸ & saye not rather (as men euyl speake of vs, and as some affyrme that we saye) let vs do euyll that good maye come thereof. Whose damnacyon is iuste.

⁶ Seynge that we haue dyuers gyftes, accordynge to the grace that is geuen vnto vs: yf any man haue the gyft of prophesy, let him haue it that it be agreyng vnto the fayth. ⁷ Let hym that hath an offyce, wayte on hys office. Let hym that teacheth, take hede to hys doctryne. ⁸ Let hym that exhorteth, geue attendaunce to hys exhortacyon. Yf any man geue, let hym do it with singlenes. Let him that ruleth do it with diligence. Yf anye man shew mercy let hym do it with cherfulnes.

²⁶ but nowe is opened by the scriptures of prophesye, at the commaundemente of the euerlastynge God, to stere vp obedience to the fayth publyshed among all nacions:

²⁰ Where is the wyse? Where is the scribe? Where is the searcher of this worlde?

⁴ And my wordes and my preachinge were not wyth entisynge wordes of mannes wysdome but in shewinge of the spirite, and of power,

¹⁶ In that I preache the Gospel, I haue nothinge to reioyce of. For necessytye is put vnto me. Wo is it vnto me yf I preach not the Gospel.

¹⁰ Neyther murmure ye as some of them murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.

⁸ To one is geuen thorowe the spirite the vtteraunce of wysdome. To another is geuen the vtteraunce of knowledge by the same spirite.

³ When I am come, whomsoeuer ye shall alowe by youre letters, them will I sende to bringe your liberalitie vnto Ierusalem.

⁷ Yf the mynystracyon of death throughe the letters fygured in stones was gloryous, so that the chyldren of Israell coulde not behold the face of Moyses for the glory of hys countenaunce (whiche glory neuerthelesse is done awaye) ⁸ why shall not the ministracion of the spiryte be muche more gloryous?

¹⁸ But we all beholde the glorye of the Lorde with hys face open, and chaunged vnto the same similitude, from glorye to glory, euen of the spirite of the Lorde.

¹⁹ and not so onely, but is also chosen of the congregacyons to be a felowe with vs in oure iorneye concernynge thys beneuolence that is ministred by vs vnto the prayse of the Lorde, and to stere vp youre prompte mynde. ²⁰ For this we eschue, that anye man shoulde rebuke vs in thys plentuous distribucyon, that is ministred by vs, ²¹ and therfore make prouision for honest thynges, not in the syghte of God onelye, but also in the syght of men.

²² They are Hebrues, so am I: They are Israelytes, euen so am I. They are the seede of Abraham, euen so am I.

²¹ After that I went into the costes of Syria, and Cilicia,

¹⁹ Wherfore then serueth the lawe? The law was added because of transgressyon (tyll the sede came to whiche the promes was made) & it was ordeyned by angels in the hande of a mediator,

²³ Before that fayth came, we were kept and shut vp vnder the lawe, to the fayth which shuld afterward be declared.

³ Euen so we as longe as we were chyldren, were in bondage vnder the ordinaunces of the world. ⁴ But when the tyme was full come, God sente hys sonne made of a woman, and made bonde vnto the lawe, ⁵ to redeme them which were vnder the lawe: that we thorowe eleccyon myght receyue the enheritaunce that belongeth vnto the naturall sonnes.

¹⁵ Wherfore euen I (after that I hearde of the faythe whiche ye haue in the Lorde Iesu, and loue vnto all the saynctes) ¹⁶ cease not to geue thankes for you: makyng mencyon of you in my prayers, ¹⁷ that the God of oure Lord Iesus Christ, and the father of glorye myghte geue vnto you the spyryte of wysdome, and open to you the knoweledge of hym selfe,

¹⁴ For this cause I bowe my knees vnto the father of oure Lorde Iesus Christ, ¹⁵ whiche is father ouer all that is called father, in heauen and in earth, ¹⁶ that he woulde graunt you accordinge to the ryches of his glorie, that ye maye be strengthed wyth mighte by his spirite in the inner man, ¹⁷ that Christ may dwell in your hertes by fayth, that ye beinge roted and grounded in loue, ¹⁸ might be able to comprehende wyth all sainctes, what is the bread and length, deapt and height: ¹⁹ and to knowe, what is the loue of Christe, whyche loue passeth knowledge, that ye myghte be fulfylled wyth all maner of fulnes, whiche cometh of God. ²⁰ Vnto hym that is able to do excedinge aboundantly aboue all that we are or thinke, accordinge to the power that worketh in vs, ²¹ be prayse in the congregation by Iesus Christe, thorowout al generacions, from time to time. Amen.

¹¹ And the very same made some Apostles, some Prophetes, some Euangelistes, some sheperdes, some teachers,

¹⁸ and be not drounke wt wyne. wherin is excesse, but be fulfylled wyth the spirite,

⁴ all wayes in al my prayers for you, and praye wyth gladnes,

⁹ And this I praye, that youre loue maye increase more and more in knowledge, and in al fealinge, ¹⁰ that ye myght accepte thinges moste excellent, that ye might be pure and such as should hurte no mannes conscience, vntyll the daye of Christe, ¹¹ fylled with the fruites of rightuousnes, which fruites come by Iesus Christ vnto the glory and laude of God.

⁵ circumcised the eighte daye, of the kynred of Israel, of the tribe of Beniamin, an Hebrue borne of the Hebrues: as concerninge the lawe, a pharisey,

⁶ which is come vnto you, euen as it is into all the world, and is frutefull, as it is amonge you, from the fyrste daye in the, whiche ye hearde of it, and had experience in the grace of God in the trueth,

⁹ For this cause we also, sence the daye we heard of it, haue not ceased prayeng for you, and desiring that ye myght be fulfilled with the knowledge of his will, in all wysdome, and spiritual vnderstandinge, ¹⁰ that ye mighte walke worthy of the Lorde in all thinges, that please him beyng frutefull in all good workes, and encreasing in the knowledge of God ¹¹ strengthed wyth all myghte thorowe his glorious power, vnto al pacience & longe suffering with ioyfulnes, ¹² geuing thankes vnto the father, which hath made vs mete to be partakers of the inheritaunce of sainctes in lyght. ¹³ Which hath deliuered vs from the power of darcknes and hath translated vs into the kyngdome of his deare sonne,

¹ I woulde ye knewe what fightinge I haue for your sakes, & for them of Laodicia, and for as many as haue not sene my person in the fleshe,

¹² Epaphras the seruaunte of Christe, which is one of you, saluteth you, and alwaies laboureth feruentlye for you in prayers, that ye maye stande perfecte and full in all that is the wyll of God.

⁷ He muste also be well reported of amonge them whiche are wythout forth, lest he fall into rebuke and snare of the euyll speaker. ⁸ Lykewyse muste the Deacons be honest, not double tonged, not geuen vnto much drinkynge, neyther vnto fylthy lucre: ⁹ but hauing the mystery of the fayth in a pure conscience. ¹⁰ And let them fyrste be proued, and then lette them mynyster, yf they be founde fautlesse. ¹¹ Euen so muste theyr wyues be honeste, not euyll speakers, but sober and faythfull in all thynges. ¹² Let the deacons be the husbandes of one wyfe, and suche as rule theyr chyldren well, and theyr owne housholdes. ¹³ For they that mynyster wel, get them selues good degree and greate lybertye in the faythe whiche is in Christ Iesu.

⁴ Yf any wyddowe haue chyldren or neues, let them learne fyrst to rule theyr owne houses godlye and to recompence theyr elders. For that is good and acceptable before God. ⁵ She that is a verye wydowe and fryndelesse, putteth her trust in God & contynueth in supplicacyon & prayer nyghte and daye.

⁹ Let no wydowe be chosen vnder thre score yere olde, and suche a one as was the wyfe of one man, ¹⁰ and well reported of in good workes: yf she haue nouryshed chyldren, yf she haue bene lyberall to straungers, yf she haue washed the saynctes fete, yf she haue mynystred vnto them whiche were in aduersitie, yf she were contynually geuen vnto all maner good workes.

²² Laye handes sodenly on no man, neyther be partakers of other mennes synnes: kepe thy self pure.

⁶ Wherfore I warne the that thou stere vp the gyfte of God whiche is in the, by the puttynge on of my handes.

⁴ No man that warreth entangleth hym selfe with worldye busynes, and that because he woulde please hym that hath chosen hym to be a souldyer.

⁹ wherein I suffer trouble as an euyll doar, euen vnto bondes. But the worde of God was not bounde.

² preache the word, be feruent, be it in season or out of season. Improue, rebuke, exhorte, wyth all long suffering and doctryne.

¹¹ Yf nowe therfore perfeccyon came by the priesthode of the Leuytes (for vnder that presthode the people receyueth the lawe) what nedeth furthermore that another prieste shoulde aryse after the ordre of Melchisedech, and not after the ordre of Aaron? ¹² Nowe no doubte, yf the priesthode be translated, then of necessitye must the lawe be translated also. ¹³ For of whome these thynges are spoken pertayneth vnto another trybe, of whiche neuer man serued at the aulter. ¹⁴ For it is euident, that oure Lorde sprong of the trybe of Iuda, of whiche trybe spake Moyses nothyng concernynge priesthode. ¹⁵ And it is yet a more euydent thynge, yf after the similitude, of Melchisedech, there arise an other prieste: ¹⁶ which is not made after the lawe of the carnall commaundement: but after the power of the endelesse lyfe. ¹⁷ (For he testifyeth thou arte a prieste for euer, after the ordre of Melchysedech). ¹⁸ Then the commaundement that wente before, is dysanulled, because of her weakenes and vnprofytablenes. ¹⁹ For the lawe made nothynge perfecte: but was an introduccion of a better hope, by which hope we drawe nye vnto God.

⁶ Nowe hath he obtayned a more excellente offyce, in as muche as he is the medyator of a better testamente, whiche was made for better promyses. ⁷ For yf that fyrste testamente had bene faultlesse then shoulde no place haue bene soughte for the seconde. ⁸ For in rebukyng them he sayth: beholde the dayes wyll come (sayeth the Lorde) and I wyll fynyshe vpon the house of Israel, and vpon the house of Iuda, ⁹ a newe testamente: not lyke the testament that I made wyth theyr fathers at that tyme when I toke them by the handes, to leade them oute of the lande of Egypte, for they continued not in my testamente, and I regarded them not sayth the Lorde. ¹⁰ For thys is the testament that I will make wyth the house of Israel: After those dayes sayth the Lorde: I wyl put my lawes in their myndes, and in theyr hertes I wyl wryte them and I wyll be theyr God, and they shall be my people. ¹¹ And they shall not teache euerye man hys neyghboure, and euerye man hys brother, saiynge: knowe the Lorde: For they shall knowe me, from the leste to the most of them: ¹² For I wyll be mercyfull ouer theyr vnryghtuousnes, and on theyr synnes & on theyr iniquities. ¹³ In that he sayth a newe testament he hath abrogate the olde. Now that which is dysanulled and waxed olde, is readye to vanyshe awaye.

⁹ Whyche was a simylytude for the tyme then present, and in whyche were offered gyftes and sacrifices that coulde not make the mynyster perfecte, as pertaynynge to the conscience, ¹⁰ wyth onelye meates and drynkes and dyuers washynges and iustifiynges of the fleshe, whyche were ordeyned vntyll the tyme of reformacyon. ¹¹ But Christe beynge an hye prieste of good thynges to come, came by a greater & a more perfecte tabernacle, not made wyth handes: that is to saye, not of thys maner buyldynge,

¹ For the lawe whyche hath but the shadowe of good thinges to come, and not the thynges in theyr owne fashyon can neuer wyth the sacrifyces whych they offer yere by yere continuallly, make the commers thereunto perfect. ² For woulde not then those sacryfyces haue ceased to haue bene offered, because that the offerers once pourged shoulde haue had no more consciences of synnes? ³ Neuertheles in those sacryfyces is ther mencyon made of synnes euery yeare. ⁴ For it is vnpossyble that the bloude of oxen and of gotes shoulde take awaye synnes. ⁵ Wherfore, when he commeth into the world he sayth: Sacrifyce and offerynge thou wouldest not haue: but a body hast thou ordeyned me. ⁶ In sacryfyces and synne offerynges thou hast not luste. ⁷ Then I saide: Lo I come, in the cheyfest in the boke it is wrytten of me, that I should do thy wil, o God. ⁸ Aboue when he had sayd sacryfyce and offerynge, and burnte sacrifices and synne offerynges thou wouldest not haue, neither hast alowed (whyche yet are offered by the lawe) ⁹ and then sayd, Lo I come to do thy wyll, O God: he taketh awaye the fyrste to stablysshe the latter. ¹⁰ By the whiche wyll we are sanctyfyed, by the offerynge of the bodye of Ieu Christ once for all. ¹¹ And euery priest is redy daylie mynistring and ofte tymes offereth one maner of offerynge whyche can neuer take awaye synnes. ¹² But thys man after he had offered one sacryfyce for synnes, satte hym downe for euer on the right hande of God, ¹³ and from henceforth taryeth tyl hys foes be made hys fote stole. ¹⁴ For wyth one offeryng hath he made perfecte for euer, them that are sanctyfyed. ¹⁵ And the holy ghost also beareth vs record of thys, euen when he told before: ¹⁶ Thys is the testamente that I wyl make to them: after those dayes sayth the Lorde. I wyll put my lawes in theyr hertes and in theyr mynde I wyll wryte them ¹⁷ and theyr synnes and iniquities wyll I remember no more. ¹⁸ And where remyssyon of these thynges is, there is no more offerynge for synne.

⁸ By fayth Abraham, when he was called obeyed, to go out into a place, which he shoulde afterward receyue to inherytaunce, and he wente oute not knowynge whyther he should go.

²⁶ whose voyce then shouke the earth, and now declareth saiyng: yet ones more wyll I shake not the earth only, but also heauen. ²⁷ No doubte that same that he sayeth yet ones more, signifyeth the remouyng away of those thynges, whiche are shaken as of thynges whiche haue ended theyr course: that the thynges whiche are not shaken maye remayne. ²⁸ Wherfore yf we receyue a kingdom which is not moued, we haue grace, wherby we may serue God, and please hym wyth reuerence & Godly feare.

¹ Let brotherlye loue continue.

¹⁷ Euery good gyfte, and euerye perfecte gyfte, is from aboue and commeth doune from the father of lyght wyth whome is no varyablenes, neyther is he chaunged vnto darkenes.

²⁷ Pure deuocyon and vndefyled before God the father is thys: to visite the fatherlesse and wyddowes in theyr aduersitye, and to kepe hym selfe vnspotted of the worlde.

¹⁷ But the wysedome that is from aboue, is fyrste pure, then peasable, gentle, and easye to be entreated, full of mercye & good frutes, wythoute iudgynge, and wythout simulacyon: ¹⁸ yea, & the frute of ryghtuousnes is sowen in peace, of them that maintayne peace.

⁵ Eyther do ye thynke that the scrypture sayeth in vayne. The spyryte that dwelleth in you lusteth euen contrarye to enuye:

⁹ Grudge not one agaynst another brethren lest ye be damned. Beholde the iudge standeth before the dore.

¹⁴ We know that we are translated from death vnto lyfe, because we loue the brethren. He that loueth not his brother, abydeth in death. ¹⁵ Whosoeuer hateth his brother, is a man slear. And ye know that no man slear hath eternal life abidinge in him. ¹⁶ Hereby perceyue we loue, that he gaue hys lyfe for vs, & therfore oughte we also to geue our lyues for the brethren.

¹² Demetrius hath good report of al men, and of the trueth, yea: & we our selues also beare recorde, and ye knowe that oure recorde is true.

⁶ But this thou hast because thou hatest the dedes of the Nicolaytans, which dedes I also hate.

¹⁵ Euen so hast thou them that mayntaine the doctryne of the Nicolaytans whiche thinge I hate.
