¹ In the seconde yeare of the raigne of Nabuchodonosor, had Nabuchodonosor a dreame, wherethorow his sprete was vexed, & hys slepe brake from him. ² Then the kyng commaunded to cal together all the sothsayers, charmers, witches & Caldees, for to shew the king his dreame. So they came & stode before the king. ³ And the king sayd vnto them: I haue dreamed a dreame, and my sprete was so troubled therewith, that I haue clene forgotten, what I dreamed. ⁴ Vpon thys the Caldees aunswered the kynge in the Syrians speach: O king, God saue thy lyfe for euer. Shew thy seruauntes the dreame, and we shal shewe the, what it meaneth. ⁵ The kynge gaue the Caldees theyr aunswere, & said: It is gone fro me: Yf ye wyl not make me vnderstande the dreame wyth the interpretacyon thereof, ye shall dye, & youre houses shalbe prysed. ⁶ But yf ye tell me the dreame & the meanynge therof, ye shall haue of me gyftes, rewardes & greate honoure: onely, shew me the dreame and the sygnifycacyon of it. ⁷ They aunswered agayne, and sayde: the kynge must shewe his seruauntes the dreame, & so shall we declare what it meaneth. ⁸ Then the kinge auswered, sayinge: I perceyue of a trueth, that ye do but prolonge the tyme: for so muche as ye se, that the thing is gone fro me. ⁹ Therfore ye wil not tell me the dreame, ye shall all haue one iudgement. But ye fayne & dyssemble with vayne wordes, which ye speake before me, to put of the tyme. Therfore tel me the dreame, & so shal I know yf ye can shewe me, what it meaneth. ¹⁰ Vpon this, the Caldees gaue answere before the king, and sayde: there is no man vpon earthe, that can tell the thynge, whiche the kyng speaketh of, yea there is neyther kyng, prynce nor lord, that euer asked suche thynges at a sothsayer, charmer or Caldeer: ¹¹ for it is a very hard matter, that the kynge requyreth. Neither is there any, that can certyfye the kynge therof, except the Goddes: whose dwellyng is not among the creatures. ¹² For the whiche cause the kyng was wroth with greate indignacyon, and commaunded to destroye all the wyse men at Babylon: ¹³ and the proclamacyon wente forthe, that the wyse men shuld be slayne, They sought also to slay Daniel with hys companions. ¹⁴ Then Daniel enquered Arioh the kynges stewarde, of the iudgement and sentence, that was gone forth already to kyll soche as were wyse at Babilon. ¹⁵ He aunswered and sayde vnto Arioh brynge then the Kynges debyte: Why hath the kyng proclamed so cruell a sentence? So Arioh tolde Daniel the matter. ¹⁶ Vpon this, wente Daniel vp, and desyred the kynge, that he might haue leysoure, to shewe the kynge the interpretacyon: ¹⁷ and then came he home agayne, & shewed the thynge vnto Ananias, Misael & Asarias hys companyons: ¹⁸ that they shulde beseche the God of heauen for grace in thys secrete, that Daniel and hys felowes wyth other soch as were wyse in Babylon, peryshed not. ¹⁹ Then was the mysterye shewed vnto Daniel in a vysyon by nyght And Daniel praysed the god of heauen. ²⁰ Daniel also cryed loude, and sayd: O that the name of God myghte be praysed for euer and euer, for wysdome and strengthe are hys owne: ²¹ he chaunged the tymes & ages: he putteth doune kynges, he setteth vp kinges he geueth wysdome vnto the wyse, & vnderstandynge to those that vnderstande, ²² he openeth the depe secretes, he knoweth the thynge that lyeth in darckenesse, for the lyghte dwelleth wyth hym. ²³ I thanke the, and prayse the (O thou God of my fathers) that thou haste lente me wysdom and strength, & hast shewed me the thyng, that we desyred of the, for thou haste opened the kynges matter vnto me. ²⁴ Vpon this went Daniel in vnto Arioh, whome the kynge had ordeyned to destroye the wyse at Babylon: he went vnto hym, & sayde: destroye not suche as are wyse in Babylon, but brynge me in vnto the kynge, and I shall shewe the kynge the interpretacyon. ²⁵ Then Arioch broughte Daniel in to the kyng in all the haste, and sayde vnto hym: I haue founde a man amonge the presoners of Iuda, that shall shewe the kyng the interpretacyon. ²⁶ Then aunswered the kynge, and sayde vnto Daniel, whose name was Balthasar: Arte thou he, that canste shewe me the dreame, whiche I haue sene, & the interpretacyon therof? ²⁷ Daniel aunswered the kynge to hys face, and sayd: As for this secrete, for the whiche the kynge maketh inquisicion: it is neyther the wyse, the sorcerer, the charmer nor the deuyll coniurer, that can certyfye the kynge of it: ²⁸ Onely God in heauen can open secretes, and he it is, that sheweth the kynge Nabuchodonosor, what is for to come in the latter dayes. Thy dreame, & that whiche thou hast sene in thyne heade vpon thy bed, is thys: ²⁹ O kyng thou dyddest caste in thy mynde, what shulde come hereafter: So he that is the opener of misteryes, telleth the, what is for to come. ³⁰ As for me, thys secrete is not shewed me, for anye wysdome that I haue, more then anye other lyuynge: but onelye that I myghte shewe the kynge the interpretacyon, and that he myghte know the thoughtes of his owne herte. ³¹ Thou kynge sawest, & behold, there stode before the a greate Image, whose fygure was marueylous greate, and hys vysage grymme. ³² The Image head was of fyne golde, hys breste & armes of siluer, his body and loynes were of copper, ³³ his legges were of yron, his fete were parte of yron, and parte of earthe. ³⁴ Tis thou sawest, tyll the tyme that (wyth oute any handes) there was hewen of a stone whiche smote the Image vpon the fete, that were both of yron and earth, and brake them to poulder: ³⁵ then was the yron, the earthe, the copper, the syluer and gold broken altogether in peces: and be came lyke the chaffe of corne, that the wynde bloweth awaye from the somer floores, that they can no more be founde. But the stone that smote the Image, became a greate mountayne, whiche fulfilleth the whole earthe: ³⁶ Thys is the dreame. And nowe wyll we shewe before the kynge, what it meaneth. ³⁷ O kynge, thou arte a kynge of kynges: For the God of heauen hath geuen the a kyngdome, ryches, strengthe and maiestye: ³⁸ & hathe delyuered the all thynges, that are amonge the children of men: the beastes of the feld, and the foules vnder the heauen, and geuen the dominyon ouer them al. Thou arte that golden head. ³⁹ After the there shall aryse another kyngdome, whiche shall be lesse then thyne. The thyrde kyngedome shalbe lyke copper, & haue dominacyon in all landes. ⁴⁰ The fourthe kyngdome shalbe as stronge as yron. For lyke as yron broseth and breaketh all thynges: Yea euen as yron beateth euery thynge doune, so shall it beate doune and destroye. ⁴¹ Where as thou sawest the fete and toes, parte of earthe, and parte of yron: that is a deuyded kyngedome, whiche neuertheles shall haue some of the yron grounde myxte with it, for so muche as thou haste sene the yron mixte with the claye. ⁴² The toes of the fete that were parte of yron and parte of claye, sygnifyeth, that it shalbe a kyngdome partely stronge and partly weake. ⁴³ And where as thou sawest yron myxte wyth claye: they shall myngle them selues wyth the sede of symple people, & yet not contynue one wyth another, lyke as yron wyll not be souldered with a potsherde. ⁴⁴ In the dayes of these kinges shall the God of heauen set vp an euerlastynge kyngdome whiche shall not peryshe, and hys kyngdome shall not be geuen ouer to another people: yea the same shal breake and destroy al these kingdomes, but it shall endure foreuer. ⁴⁵ And where as thou saweste, that withoute any handes there was cut oute of the mounte a stone, whiche brake the yron, the copper, the earthe, the syluer and golde in peces: by that hath the greate God shewed the kynge, what wyll come after thys. This is a true dreame, and the interpretacyon of it is sure. ⁴⁶ Then the kynge Nabuchodonosor fell doune vpon hys face, and bowed hym self vnto Daniel, and commaunded that they shuld offre meate offerynges and swete odours vnto hym. ⁴⁷ The kynge aunswered Daniel, and sayde: yea of a trueth your God is a GOD aboue all Goddes, a Lorde aboue all kynges and an opener of secretes: seynge thou canste dyscouer thys mysterye. ⁴⁸ So the kynge made Daniel a greate man, and gaue hym many & greate gyftes. He made hym ruler of all the countrees of Babylon, and Lorde of all the nobles, that were at Babylon. ⁴⁹ Now Daniel intreated the kynge so: Sidrach, Misach and Abednago, so that he made them rulers ouer all the offyces in the lande of Babylon: But Danyel hymselfe remayned styll in the courte by the kynge.

⁵ And they dreamed ether of them in one nyghte: both the butlar and the baker of the kynge of Egypte whych were bounde in the preson house, ether of them hys dreame, and eche mannes dreame of a sondrye interpretacion. ⁶ When Ioseph came in vnto them in the mornyng, & loked vpon them: beholde, they were sadd. And he asked them saying: ⁷ wherfore loke ye so sadly to day? ⁸ They answered him, we haue dreamed a dreame, & haue no man to declare it. And Ioseph sayd vnto them. Interpretynge belongeth to God but tell me yet.

¹ And it fortuned at .ij. yeres ende that Pharao dreamed, & thought that he stode by a ryuers syde, ² and that there came out of the ryuer .vij. goodly kyne and fatflesshed, and fedd in a medowe, ³ and hym thought that .vij. other kyne came vp after them out of the ryuer euel fauored and leane fleshed and stode by the other vpon the brynke of the ryuer. ⁴ And the euyll fauored and leans flesshed kyne: ate vp the .vij. wel fauored and fat kyne: and he awoke there wyth. ⁵ And he slepte agayne and dreamed the second tyme, that seuen eares of corne grewe vpon one stalke rancke and goodly. ⁶ And that .vij. thynne eares blasted wyth the wynde, sprange vp after them: ⁷ and that the .vij. thynne eares deuoured the .vij. rancke and full eares. And than Pharao awaked: & se, here is his dreame. ⁸ When the mornynge came, hys sprete was troubled. And he sent and called for all the sothesayers of Egypte & al the wyse men therof, and tolde them his dreame: but there was none of them that coulde interpretate it vnto Pharao. ⁹ Than spake the chefe buttelar vnto Pharao saying. I do remembre my faute thys daye. ¹⁰ Pharao was angrye wt his seruauntes, & put in warde in the chefe marshals house both me & the chefe baker. ¹¹ And we dreamed both of vs in one nyght & ech mannes dreame of a sondrye interpretacion. ¹² And there was wyth vs a yonge man, an Hebrue borne, seruaunte vnto the chefe marshall. And we told hym, and he declared our dreames to vs accordynge to ether of oure dreames. ¹³ And as he declared them vnto vs, euen so it came to passe. I was restored to myne office agayn, and he was hanged. ¹⁴ Than Pharao sent & called Ioseph. And they made him haste out of preison. And he shaued him self and chaunged his rayment, and went in to Pharao. ¹⁵ And Pharao sayde vnto Ioseph: I haue dreamed a dreame & no man can interpretate it, but I haue herde say of the that as sone as thou hearest a dreame thou dost interpretate it. ¹⁶ And Ioseph answered Pharao saying: God shal geue Pharao an answere of peace without me. ¹⁷ Pharao sayd vnto Ioseph: in my dreame me thought I stode by a ryuers syde, ¹⁸ and there cam out of the ryuer .vij. fat fleshed and well fauored kyne, and fedde in the meddow. ¹⁹ And then .vij. other kyne came vp after them, poore & very euell fauored & leane fleshed: so that I neuer sawe their lyke in all the lande of Egypte in euell fauordnesse. ²⁰ And the .vij. leane and euel fauored kyne eate vp the fyrste .vij. fat kyne. ²¹ And when they had eaten them vp a man coulde not perceyue that they had eaten them: for they were styll as euyll fauored as they were at the begynnyng. And I awoke. ²² And I sawe agayn in my dreame .vij. eares spring out of one stalke ful and good, ²³ and .vij. other eares wytherd, thynne an blasted wt wynde, sprynge vp after them. ²⁴ And the thynne eares deuowred the .vij. good eares. And I haue tolde it vnto the sothsayers, but no man can tell me what it meaneth. ²⁵ Then Ioseph sayde vnto Pharao: both Pharaos dreames are one. And God doth shewe Pharao what he is aboute to do. ²⁶ The seuen good kyne are .vij. yeres: & the seuen good eares: are seuen yeres also, and it is but one dreame. ²⁷ Likewyse the seuen thynne and euel fauored kyne that came out after them, are seuen yeres: and the .vij. emptye and blasted eares shalbe .vij. yeres of hunger. ²⁸ This is that whiche I sayde vnto Pharao, that god doth shewe Pharao what he is about to do. ²⁹ Beholde there shal come .vij. yere of great plenteousnes through oute all the lande of Egypte. ³⁰ And there shal aryse after them .vij. yeres of hunger. So that al the plenteousnes shalbe forgotten in the lande of Egypt. And the hunger shall consume the lande: ³¹ so that the plenteousnes shall not be once a sene in the lande by reason of that hunger that shall come after, for it shalbe exceadynge greate. ³² And as concernynge that the dreame was doubled vnto Pharao the seconde tyme, it betokeneth that the thynges is certanly prepared of God, and that God wyll shortlye brynge it to passe. ³³ Nowe therfore let Pharao prouyde for a man of vnderstandyng & wysdome, and set him ouer the land of Egypte. ³⁴ And let Pharao make offycers ouer the lande, & take vp the fyfte parte of the lande of Egypte in the .vij. plenteous yeres ³⁵ & let them gather all the foode of these good yeres that come, and lay vp corne vnder the power of Pharao, that there may be foode in the cyties, ³⁶ and there let them kepe it: that there maye be foode in stoore in the lande, agaynste the .vij. yeres of hunger whych shal come in the land of Egypte, and that the land perysh not thorow hunger.

⁵ And Iehoakim was .xxv. yeare olde when he began to raigne, & he raigned a .xi. yeare in Ierusalem: & he dyd that displeased the Lorde his God. ⁶ Againste hym came Nabuchodonozor kynge of Babilon & bounde him in fetters to carye him to Babilon. ⁷ Therto the kynge Nabuchodonozor caried the vessels of the house of the Lord to Babilon and put them in hys temple at Babilon.

¹ The same nyght could not the king slepe, & he commaunded to bring the Chronicles & storyes: which when they were read before the kinge,

¹⁵ In dreames and visyons of the nyght season (when slombring commeth vpon men, that they fall a slepe in theyr beddes) ¹⁶ he roundeth them in the eares, he infourmeth them, and sheweth them playnelye, ¹⁷ that it is he, which wythdraweth man from euyll, delyuereth hym from pryde,

¹ A sermon that was geuen vnto Ieremy, vpon all the people of Iuda: In the fourth yeare of Iehoakim the sonne of Iosiah Kynge of Iuda, that was, in the fyrste yeare of Nabuchodonosor kynge of Babilon,

¹ In the thyrde yeare of the raygne of Iehoakim kinge of Iuda, came Nabuchodonosor kyng of Babylon vnto Ierusalem, & beseged it ² and the Lord deliuered Iehoakim the kinge of Iuda into his hande, with certayne ornamentes of the house of God, whiche he caryed awaye vnto the lande of Sennar, to the house of his God, and there he broughte them into hys Goddes treasurye. ³ And the kyng spake vnto Asphanaz the chefe chamberlayne, that he shulde brynge hym certayne of the chyldren of Israel, that were come of the kynges sede & of prynces, ⁴ yonge spryngaldes wythout anye blemyshe, but fayre & welfauoured, instructe in all wisdome, connyng and vnderstanding: whiche were able to stande in the kynges palace, to reade and to learne for to speake Caldeish. ⁵ Vnto these the king appoynted a certayne porcyon of hys owne meate, and of the wyne, which he drancke hym selfe, so to noryshe them thre yeare: that afterwarde they myght stande before the kynge.

³ And the king sayd vnto them: I haue dreamed a dreame, and my sprete was so troubled therewith, that I haue clene forgotten, what I dreamed.

⁵ sawe a dreame, which made me afraied: & the thoughtes that I had vpon my bed, wyth the vysyons of myne heade, troubled me.

¹⁸ So the kinge wente into his palace, & kepte him sober al night, so that there was no table spred before him, neyther coulde he take any slepe.

⁸ When the mornynge came, hys sprete was troubled. And he sent and called for all the sothesayers of Egypte & al the wyse men therof, and tolde them his dreame: but there was none of them that coulde interpretate it vnto Pharao.

¹¹ Then Pharao called for the wyse men and enchaunters of Egypte: & they dyd in lyke maner with their sorcery.

¹⁰ Let ther not be founde among you that maketh hys sonne or daughter to go thorow the fyre, or that vseth withcrafte, or a choser out of dayes or that regardeth the flieng of foules, ¹¹ or a sorcerar, or a charmar, or that counceleth with spretes, or a propheciar or that asketh the aduyse of the dead, ¹² for al that do such thyngs are abhominacion vnto the Lorde: and because of these abhominacions the Lord thy God doeth cast them out before the,

¹⁹ And therfore yf they saye vnto you: aske councel at the sothesayers, wytches, charmers and coniurers, then make them thys answere: Is there a people any where, that asketh not councel at his God, whether it be concerning the deade, or the lyuynge?

³ And Egypt shalbe choked in her selfe. When they aske councel at their goddes, at their prophetes, at their sothsayers & witches, then will I brynge their councell to naught.

¹² Now go to thy coniurers, and to the multitude of thy witches (whom thou haste bene acquainted withall from thy youthe) yf they maye helpe the, or strengthen the. ¹³ Thou haste hytherto had manye councels of them, so let the heauengasers & the beholders of starres come on now and delyuer the: yea & let them shewe, when these new thynges shal come vpon the.

²⁰ whiche in all wysdome and matters of vnderstandynge, that he enquered of them, founde them ten tymes better then all the sothsayers and charmers, that were in all hys realme.

¹⁰ Vpon this, the Caldees gaue answere before the king, and sayde: there is no man vpon earthe, that can tell the thynge, whiche the kyng speaketh of, yea there is neyther kyng, prynce nor lord, that euer asked suche thynges at a sothsayer, charmer or Caldeer:

⁶ Then sente I oute a commyssyon, that all they which were of wysdome at Babylon, shulde be broughte before me, to tell me the interpretacyon of the dreame.

⁷ Wherfore the kynge cryed myghtelye, that they shulde brynge hym the charmers, Caldees and coniurers of deuyls. The kynge spake also to the wyse men of Babylon, and sayde: Who so can rede thys wrytynge, and shew me the playne meanyng therof, shalbe clothed wyth purple, haue a cheyne of golde aboute hys necke, and rule the thyrde parte of my kyngedome.

⁸ They answered him, we haue dreamed a dreame, & haue no man to declare it. And Ioseph sayd vnto them. Interpretynge belongeth to God but tell me yet.

⁴⁷ And Laban called it Iegar Sahadutha, but Iacob called it Gilead.

²⁴ And Samuel sayde to al the people there se ye whom the Lord hath chosen & how there is none lyke hym amonge all the companye. And al the people shouted and sayd: God lend the Kyng lyfe.

²⁵ For he is gone doune this day and hath offered, oxen, fatlynges and shepe aboundantlye, and hath called al the Kynges sonnes and the captaynes of the hoste, and Abiathar the priest. And se, they eate and drinck before hym, and saye: God saue kynge Adoniah.

³¹ And Bethsabe bowed on her face to the earth, and dyd obeysaunce vnto the kynge and said: I praye God my Lorde kynge Dauid maye lyue euer.

⁷ And in the tyme of Arthaxerses, wrote Bysellam, Midritates, Tabeel, and the other of their counsel vnto Arthaxerses the kynge of Persia. But the scripture of the letter was wrytten in the Sirians speache, and was interpretated in the language of the Sirians.

³ & sayde vnto the kynge: God saue the kynges lyfe for euer, shulde I not loke sadly? the cytye of my fathers buryall lyeth waste & the gates thereof are consumed with fyre.

¹¹ Then sayde Eliakim, Sobua & Ioah vnto Rabsakeh: Speake to vs thy seruauntes (we praye the) in the Sirians language, for we vnderstande it well: And speake not to vs in the Iewes tonge, leste the folcke heare, whych lyeth vpon the wall.

²⁵ I destroye the tokens of witches, and make the Soth sayers go wronge. As for the wyse, I turne them backwarde, and make their connynge folyshnesse.

⁹ and sayde vnto the kynge Nabuchodonosor: O kyng, God saue thy lyfe for euer.

⁷ So there came the sothsayers, charmers, Caldees and coniurers of Deuyls, to whome I tolde the dreame, but what it be tokened, they coulde not shewe me:

¹⁹ Then Daniel (whose name was Balthasar) helde hys peace by the space of an houre, and hys thoughtes troubled hym. So the kynge spake, and sayd: O Balthasar, let neyther the dreame nor the interpretacyon therof feare the. Balthazar aunswered, saying: O my Lorde, this dreame happen to thyne enemyes, & the interpretacyon to thyne aduersaryes.

⁸ Vpon this, came al the kynges wyse men: but they coulde neyther reade the wrytynge, nor shewe the kinge what it signifyed.

¹⁰ So by reason of thys matter, that had happened to the kyng and his lordes, the quene wente vp her selfe into the banckethouse, and spake vnto the kynge, sayinge: O kyng, God saue thy lyfe for euer: Let not the thoughtes trouble the, and let not thy countenaunce be chaunged.

⁶ Vpon this, wente the princes and Lordes together vnto the kynge, and sayde thus vnto him: king Darius God saue thy lyfe for euer.

²¹ Daniel sayde vnto the Kinge: O King, God saue thy lyfe for euer.

⁹ Moreouer the people that went before, and they also that came after, cryed sayinge: Hosanna to the sonne of Dauid. Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the Lorde Hosanna in the hyest.

⁹ And they that before, & they that folowed, cryed, saying Hosanna: blessed be he that commeth in the name of the Lord. ¹⁰ Blessed be the kyngdome that commeth in the name of hym that is Lord of our father Dauid. Hosanna in the hyest.

¹⁶ & euen the very cattell therof wyth the edge of the swerd. And gather al the spoile of it into the myddes of the streates thereof, and burne with fyre boeth the city and al the spoyle therof euery whyt vnto the Lord thy God. And it shal be an heape for euer & shal not be built agayne.

²⁶ And Iosua cursed at that tyme, saying, cursed be the man before the Lorde, that ryseth vp and buyldeth thys citie Iericho: so that he laye the foundacyon wyth the death of hys eldest sonne, & with the death, of hys youngest set vp the gates.

³³ As thy swerde hath made wemen chyldelesse, so shall thy mother be chyldlesse among other wemen. And so Samuell hewed Agag in peces before the Lord in Galgal. And then Samuell departed to Ramath.

²⁷ And they brake the Image of Baal, & brake the house of Baal, and made a sege of it euer after.

¹¹ This commaundement haue I geuen. And what man soeuer he be that altereth these wordes, there shall a beame be taken from his house, & set vp, and he shalbe hanged theron, & his house shalbe prysed for the deade.

²² O considre this, ye that forget God: lest I plucke you awaye, and there be none too delyuer you.

⁷ That they maye fall awaye, lyke water that runneth a pace: and that when they shote their arrowes, they maye be broken.

¹² For the whiche cause the kyng was wroth with greate indignacyon, and commaunded to destroye all the wyse men at Babylon:

²⁹ Therfore I wyll, and commaund, that al people, kynredes and tunges, whiche speake any blasphemye agaynst the God of Sidrach, Misach and Abednago, shall dye, and theyr houses shalbe prysed: Because there is no God that maye saue, as thys.

⁷ And the elders of Moab wente wyth the elders of Madian, & the reward of the sothsayinge in their handes. And they came vnto Balam and tolde hym the wordes of Balac.

¹⁷ for I wyll greately promote the vnto greate honour. and wyl do whatsoeuer thou sayeste vnto me, come therefore I praye the curse me thys peole.

³⁷ And Balac sayd vnto Balam: did I not sende for the, to call the? wherfore camest thou not vnto me? thinkest thou that I am not able to promote the vnto honour.

¹¹ and now gette the quyckly vnto thy place. I thought that I would promote the vnto honour, but the Lorde hath kept the backe from worshyp.

⁴⁸ So the kynge made Daniel a greate man, and gaue hym many & greate gyftes. He made hym ruler of all the countrees of Babylon, and Lorde of all the nobles, that were at Babylon.

¹⁶ Then heard I saye, that thou canste expounde darcke thynges, and declare harde doutes. Well then, yf thou canst reade thys wrytynge, and shewe me the meanynge therof: thou shalte be clothed with purple, haue a cheyne of golde aboute thy necke, and rule the thyrde parte of my kyngdome. ¹⁷ Daniel aunswered, and sayde before the kynge. As for thy rewardes, kepe them to thy selfe, or geue thy ryche gyftes to another: yet not the lesse, I wyll rede the wrytynge vnto the kynge, and shewe hym the interpretacion therof.

²⁹ Then commaunded Balthazar, to clothe Daniel wyth purple, to hange a cheyne of golde aboute hys necke, and to make a proclamacyon concerning him: that he shulde be the ruler of the thyrde parte of hys kyngedome.

⁴ If a principall sprete be geuen the to beare rule, be not negligente then in thine office: for so shall great wickednesse be put doun, as it were wt a medecine.

⁴ Vpon thys the Caldees aunswered the kynge in the Syrians speach: O king, God saue thy lyfe for euer. Shew thy seruauntes the dreame, and we shal shewe the, what it meaneth.

⁹ Therfore ye wil not tell me the dreame, ye shall all haue one iudgement. But ye fayne & dyssemble with vayne wordes, which ye speake before me, to put of the tyme. Therfore tel me the dreame, & so shal I know yf ye can shewe me, what it meaneth.

¹⁶ redeminge the time, for the dayes are iuel.

⁵ Walke wiselye to them that are wythout and redeme the tyme.

⁶ And then the kynge of Israell gathered of the Prophetes together, vpon a foure hundred men, and sayde vnto them: shall I go to Ramoth in Galaad to battayle, or be stylle? And they saide: go, for the Lorde shall delyuer it into the handes of the kynge.

²² And the Lorde saide: wherwyth? And he saide: I wil go out and be a false spirit in the mouthes of all his Prophetes. And the Lord sayde: thou shalt deceyue hym, and also preuayle, go forth and do euen so.

¹¹ all the kynges seruauntes, and the people in the landes of the king know that whosoeuer commeth within the courte vnto the king, whether it be man or woman, which is not called, the commaundement is that the same shall dye immediatly, excepte the kinge holde oute the goulden scepter vnto him, that he maye lyue. As for me, I haue not bene called to come into the kyng, now this thirty dayes.

¹⁹ A true mouth is euer constant, but a dissemblyng tonge is soone chaunged.

²³ Ether, let them shewe vs thynges for to come, and tell vs what shalbe done her after: so shal we knowe, that they be goddes. Shewe somthing, ether good or bad: so wyll we both knowledge the same, and tell it out.

⁶ Vayne thinges they se, & tel lyes, to maintayne their preachynges with al. The Lorde (saye they) hath spoken it, when in very dede the Lorde hath not sent them.

¹⁷ Wherfore (O thou sonne of man) set thy face agaynste the doughters of thy people, whiche prophecye oute of theyr owne hertes: & speake thou prophecye against them,

¹⁹ and dishonoure me to my people, for an handfull of barleye, and for a pece of breade: when ye kyll the soules of them, that dye not, & promes lyfe to them, that lyue not: Thus ye dyssemble with my people, that beleueth youre lyes.

²¹ he chaunged the tymes & ages: he putteth doune kynges, he setteth vp kinges he geueth wysdome vnto the wyse, & vnderstandynge to those that vnderstande,

¹⁵ well, be readye here after, when ye heare the noyse of the trompettes blowe wyth the harpes, shawmes, psalteryes, symphonyes and all the other melodyes: that ye fall doune, and worshyppe the Image whiche I haue made. But yf ye worshyppe it not, ye shall be caste immedyatly into an hote burnynge ouen. Let se, what God is there, that maye delyuer you oute of my handes?

²⁸ Phares, thy kyngdome is delte in partes, and geuen to the Medes and Perses.

³¹ and Darius out of Medea toke in the kyngedome, beyng .lxij. yeare of age.

²⁵ He shall subdue thre Kynges, and shal speake wordes against the hyest of all: he shall destroy the saintes of the most hyest, and thincke, that he may chaunge tymes and lawes. They shalbe geuen vnder his power, vntill a time, two tymes, and half a tyme.

¹⁷ For we are not as many are which choppe & chaunge with the worde of god: but euen out of purenes, and by the power of God, and in the syghte of God, so speake we in Christe.

²⁷ Daniel aunswered the kynge to hys face, and sayd: As for this secrete, for the whiche the kynge maketh inquisicion: it is neyther the wyse, the sorcerer, the charmer nor the deuyll coniurer, that can certyfye the kynge of it:

³⁹ wherfore Pharao sayde vnto Ioseph: for as moch as God hath shewed the al this, there is no man of vnderstandyng or of wysdome lyke vnto the.

¹⁹ Then saied the enchaunters vnto Pharao, it is the finger of God. Neuerthe later Pharaos hert was hardened, and he regarded them not, as the Lorde had sayed.

⁴⁵ And more ouer I wyll dwell amonge the chyldren of Israel and wylbe their God.

³⁴ Defyle not therfore the land whyche ye inhabyte, and in the myddes of whych I also dwel among the chyldren of Israel.

²⁷ But in deade can God dwell on the earthe? Beholde neyther heauen, nor heauen aboue all heauens are able to contayne the: howe muche lesse then thys house that I haue built?

¹⁸ How be it in very dede, can God dwel wt man on earth? Behold, nether heauen or heauen aboue all heauens is able to containe the: howe shuld the house then which I haue built for the do it?

¹⁸ Thou art gone vp an hye, thou hast ledde captiuitie captiue, and receyued gyftes for men: Yea, euen for thyne enemyes, that they might dwell with the Lord God.

⁵ Who is lyke vnto the Lorde oure God, that hath his dwellynge so hye, ⁶ whyche humbleth him selfe, to beholde that is in heauen and earth.

¹⁴ This shalbe my rest, here wyll I dwel for I haue a delyte therin.

¹⁸ But lo, as for me, and the children whiche the Lorde hath geuen me: we are a token and a wondre in Israel, for the Lorde of hostes sake, whiche dwelleth vpon the hill of Syon.

¹⁵ For thus sayeth the hye and excellent, euen he that dwelleth in euerlastingnesse, whose name is the holy one. I dwell hye aboue & in the sanctuary, and with him also, that is of a contrite & humble spirite: that I maye heale a troubled mind, & a contrite hert.

¹ Thus sayeth the Lorde: Heauen is my seat, and the earth is my fote stole Where shal nowe the house stande, that ye wyll buylde vnto me. And where shalbe the place, that I dwell in? ² As for these thynges, my hande had made them all, and they are all created, sayeth the Lorde. Whyche of them shall I then regarde? Euen hym, that is of a lowly troubled spyryte, and standeth in awe of my wordes.

²⁷ Daniel aunswered the kynge to hys face, and sayd: As for this secrete, for the whiche the kynge maketh inquisicion: it is neyther the wyse, the sorcerer, the charmer nor the deuyll coniurer, that can certyfye the kynge of it: ²⁸ Onely God in heauen can open secretes, and he it is, that sheweth the kynge Nabuchodonosor, what is for to come in the latter dayes. Thy dreame, & that whiche thou hast sene in thyne heade vpon thy bed, is thys:

¹¹ For why? there is a man in thy kingdome, that hath the spryte of the holy Goddes within him, as it was sene in thy fathers dayes. He hath vnderstandynge and wysdome like the Goddes. Yea the kynge Nabuchodonosor thy father made thys man chefe of the sothsayers, charmers, Caldees, and deuilconiurers,

²¹ for I wil not leaue theyr bloud vnauenged. And the Lorde shal dwel in Syon.

²⁶ Iesus beheld them and sayde vnto them: with men this is impossible, but with God al thynges are possible.

¹ In the begynnynge was the worde, and the word was with God, & the worde was God. ² The same was in the begynnynge wyth God. ³ All thynges were made by it and without it was made nothynge that was made.

¹⁴ And the worde was made flesh & dwelt amonge vs, and we sawe the glorye of it, as the glory of the onlye begotten sonne of the father, which worde was ful of grace & verite.

¹⁷ which is the spirite of truth whom the worlde can not receyue, because the world seeth hym not, neyther knoweth hym. But ye knowe hym. For he dwelleth with you, & shal be in you.

²³ Iesus aunswered and sayd vnto hym, yf a man loue me, and will kepe my saiynges, my father also will loue hym & we will come vnto hym, and will dwell to hym.

¹⁶ Howe agreeth the temple of God with Images. And ye are the temple of that lyuynge God, as sayed God. I wyll dwell amonge them, and walke among them, and wyll be theyr God, and they shall be my people.

³ And I heard a great voyce out of heauen saying: beholde, the tabernacle of God is wt men, and he wyll dwell with them. And they shal be his people, & God hym selfe shalbe with them & be theyr God.

² As for the folyshe man, displeasure kylleth hym, and anger slayeth the ignoraunt.

¹⁰ When thou punyshest one man, he muste knowledge that thou arte readye to punyshe other mo.

¹⁴ The kynges dyspleasure is a messaunger of deathe, but a wyse man wyll pacyfye hym.

¹² The kynges disfauour is lyke the roaryng of a Lyon, but hys frendship is lyke the dewe vpon the grasse.

² The kyng oughte to be feared as the roarynge of a Lyon, who so prouoketh hym vnto anger, offendeth agaynst hys owne soule.

³ The stone is heuy, and the sand weyghty: but a foles wrath is heuier then then they both ⁴ Wrath is a cruel thing, and furyousnesse is a verye tempeste: yea who is able to abyde enuye?

²² An angrye man stereth vp stryfe, and he that beareth euell wyll in hys mynde, doeth muche euill.

⁵ The kynge gaue the Caldees theyr aunswere, & said: It is gone fro me: Yf ye wyl not make me vnderstande the dreame wyth the interpretacyon thereof, ye shall dye, & youre houses shalbe prysed.

¹³ Then Nabuchodonosor in a cruell wrathe, and displeasur, commaunded that Sidrach, Misach and Abednago shulde be broughte vnto hym. So these men were broughte before the kynge.

¹⁹ Then was Nabuchodonosor full of indignacyon, so that the countenaunce of hys face chaunged vpon Sidrach, Misach, and Abednago. Therfor he charged and commaunded, that the ouen shuld be made seuen tymes hoter, then it was wonte to be,

¹⁶ Then Herode perceauing that he was mocked of the wyse men, was excedinge wroth, & sent forth and slue al the children that were in Bethleem, and in all the costes therof, as many as were two yere olde and vnder according to the time which he had diligently searched out of the wise men.

²² but I sai vnto yow, whosoeuer is angre wt his brother without a cause shal be in daunger of iudgement. Whosoeuer saieth to his brother Racha, shalbe in daunger of a counsel. But whosoeuer saieth thou fole, shalbe in daunger of hel fire

¹² Then were the kinges scribes called on the thirtenth daye of the fyrst moneth, and there was wrytten (accordyng as Haman commaunded) vnto the kinges princes and to the captiues euery where in the landes, and to the rulers of euery people in the countreyes on euery syde, accordynge to the wryttinge of euery nacyon, and after their language in the name of kynge Ahasuerus, and sealed wyth the kynges rynge. ¹³ And the writtinges were sent by postes into all the kinges landes, to rote out, to kyll, and to destroye all Iewes, both younge and olde, chyldren and wemen in one daye (namely vpon the thyrtenth daye of the twelueth moneth, which is the moneth Adar) & to spoyle theyr goodes. ¹⁴ Thys was the summe of the writtynge, that there shoulde be a commaundement geuen in all landes, to be publyshed vnto all people, that they shoulde be ready agaynst the same daye. ¹⁵ And the postes wente in all the hast according to the kinges commaundement. And in the castell of Susan was the commaundement deuised. And the kynge and Haman sate and drancke. But the cyty of Susan was disquyeted.

²⁰ Wilt thou haue any thing to do with the stoole of wickednesse, which ymagineth mischief in the lawe?

¹⁵ Lyke as a roarynge lyon and an hongry beare, euen so is an vngodly prynce ouer the pore people. ¹⁶ Wher the prynce is wythout vnderstandyng, ther is greate oppression and wronge: but if he be such one as hateth couetousnesse he shall longe raygne. ¹⁷ He that by vyolence sheddeth anye mannes bloude, shall be a rennagate vnto his graue, and no man shall be able to succoure hym.

¹ Wo be vnto you that make vnryghteous lawes, and deuyse thinges, whiche be to harde for to kepe:

¹⁹ and the kynge communed with them. But among them all were founde none suche as Daniel, Ananias, Misael, and Asarias. Therfor stode they before the kynge, ²⁰ whiche in all wysdome and matters of vnderstandynge, that he enquered of them, founde them ten tymes better then all the sothsayers and charmers, that were in all hys realme.

⁹ So Darius made the writtinge, and confirmed it. ¹⁰ Now when Daniel vnderstode that the writtinge was made, he wente into hys house: and the windowes of hys hall toward Ierusalem stode open. There kneled he doune vpon his knees, thre tymes a daye: there he made his peticion, and praysed his God, like as hys maner was to do afore tyme. ¹¹ Then these men made searche, and founde Daniel makinge his petycyon and prayinge vnto his God. ¹² So they came to the kynge, & spake before him concerninge his commaundement sayinge: O kinge, hast thou not subscribed the statute, that within .xxx. daies who so requireth hys petycyon of any God or man but onely of thy selfe, O kinge: he shalbe cast into the denne of the lyons? The kinge answered, and sayd: ye, it is true. It must be as a lawe of the Medes and Perses, that maye not be broken. ¹³ Then answered they, and sayde vnto the kynge: Daniel one of the presoners of Iuda, O kynge, regardeth neyther the, nor thy statute, that thou hast made, but maketh his peticion thre tymes a day. ¹⁴ When the king heard these wordes, he was sore greued, and would haue excused Daniel, to deliuer him, and put of the matter, vnto the Sunne wente doune to the intent that he myght saue hym. ¹⁵ These men perceyuinge the kinges mind sayde vnto him: knowe thys (O Kinge) that the lawe of the Medes and Perses is, that the commaundement & statute, whiche the kinge maketh, may not be altered.

³⁶ And the Madianytes solde hym in Egypte vnto Putiphar a Lorde of Phoraos: & hys chefe marshall.

¹⁶ Then cryed a wyse woman out of the cytie, heare heare, byd I praye you Ioab that he come hyther, that I maye speake with him. ¹⁷ When Ioab was come, the woman said: art thou Ioab? And Ioab answered: the am I. And she said to him: heare the wordes of thy handmaid: And he sayd: I am ready to heare. ¹⁸ And she sayde: it hath bene a comen sayinge in the olde tyme, men muste aske of Abel, and then go to and fynyshe the worcke. ¹⁹ Abel is one of the quyetest and faithfullest cities that are in Israel. And thou goest aboute to destroye a cytie that is as a mother in Israel. Why deuourest thou the enheritaunce of the Lorde. ²⁰ And Ioab answered and sayde: God forbid, God forbid it me, that I should eyther deuoure or destroye it. ²¹ The matter is not so: But there is a man of mount Ephraim, Seba the sonne of Bochri by name, whiche hath lyfte vp his hand against king Dauid. Delyuer vs him only, and I will depart from the cytye. And the woman sayde vnto Ioab: Beholde, his head shalbe throwen thorow the walle to the. ²² And then the woman went vnto all the people in her wysedome. And they smote of the heade of Seba the sonne of Bochri, & cast it to Ioab. And he blewe a trompet, and they skatered from the cytye, euery man to his tent. And Ioab returned to Ierusalem vnto the kynge.

¹³ This wysdome haue I sene also vnder the Sunne, and me thought it a great thynge. ¹⁴ There was a litle citie, and a fewe men within it: so there came a great kyng and beseged it, and made great bulwarkes agaynste it ¹⁵ And in the cytye there was founde a poore man (but he was wyse) which with hys wisdome deliuered the cytye: yet was there no body, that had any respect vnto such a symple man. ¹⁶ Then sayde I: wysdome is better then strengthe. Neuertheles, a simple mans wysedome is despised, & his wordes are not herde. ¹⁷ A wyse mans counsayl that is folowed in silence, is farre aboue the cryeng of a captayne among fooles. ¹⁸ For wysdome is better then harnesse: but one vnthryft alone destroyeth much good.

⁹ As for the remnaunt of the people that were in the citie, and suche as were come to helpe them (whatsoeuer was left of the comen sort) Nabuzaradan the chefe captayne caried them to Babilon.

¹² Now the tenth daye of the fyfth Moneth in the .ix. yeare of Nabuchodonosor kynge of Babylon, Nabusaradan the chefe captayne & the kynge of Babylons seruantes came vnto Ierusalem,

¹⁴ And the whole Hoost of the Caldees that were with the chefe Captayne, brake downe all the walles of Ierusalem rounde aboute.

²⁴ Vpon this went Daniel in vnto Arioh, whome the kynge had ordeyned to destroye the wyse at Babylon: he went vnto hym, & sayde: destroye not suche as are wyse in Babylon, but brynge me in vnto the kynge, and I shall shewe the kynge the interpretacyon.

¹⁸ Nowe when the tyme was expyred, that the kynge hath appoynted to bryng in these yonge spryngaldes vnto hym: the chefe chamberlain broughte them before Nabuchodonosor, ¹⁹ and the kynge communed with them. But among them all were founde none suche as Daniel, Ananias, Misael, and Asarias. Therfor stode they before the kynge,

⁹ Therfore ye wil not tell me the dreame, ye shall all haue one iudgement. But ye fayne & dyssemble with vayne wordes, which ye speake before me, to put of the tyme. Therfore tel me the dreame, & so shal I know yf ye can shewe me, what it meaneth. ¹⁰ Vpon this, the Caldees gaue answere before the king, and sayde: there is no man vpon earthe, that can tell the thynge, whiche the kyng speaketh of, yea there is neyther kyng, prynce nor lord, that euer asked suche thynges at a sothsayer, charmer or Caldeer: ¹¹ for it is a very hard matter, that the kynge requyreth. Neither is there any, that can certyfye the kynge therof, except the Goddes: whose dwellyng is not among the creatures.

⁶ Amonge these nowe were certayne of the chyldren of Iuda: namely Daniel, Ananias, Misael & Azarias. ⁷ Vnto these the chefe chamberlayne gaue other names, & called Daniel, Balthazar: Ananias, Sidrach, Misael, Misach, and Asarias, Abednago.

¹¹ Then Daniel aunswered Melassar, whom the chefe chamberlayne had set ouer Daniell, Ananias, Misael and Asarias, & sayde:

¹² Now are there certayne Iewes, whome thou haste set ouer the offyces of the lande of Babylon, namely, Sydrach, Mysach & Abednago. These men (O kynge) regarde not thy commaundement, yea they wyll not serue thy Goddes, nor bowe them selues to the golden Image, that thou haste set vp.

²⁸ What though there lacke .v. of .l. ryghtwes, wylt thou destroy al the cyte for lacke of .v.? And he sayde: If I fynde there .xl. and .v. I wil not destroy them.

³⁷ And Dauid spake moreouer, the Lorde that delyuered me out of the handes of the Lyon and out of the handes of the Beare, he shall delyuer me also oute of the handes of the Philistine. Then sayde Saul to Dauid: go, and the Lorde be wyth the.

¹⁵ Esther bad geue Mardocheus this answere: ¹⁶ Go thou thy waye then, and gather together all the Iewes that are founde at Susan, and fast ye for me, that ye eat not & drinke not in thre dayes, nether day nor nyght. I & my Damosels wil fast lykewise, and so wil I go into the kynge contrary to the commaundement: yf I perish I peryshe. ¹⁷ So Mardocheus wente his way, and dyd all that Esther had commaunded him.

¹⁵ And call vpon me in the tyme of trouble, so wyll I heare the, that thou shalte thanke me.

¹⁵ When he calleth vpon me, I shall heare hym: yea, I am with hym in hys trouble, wherout I will deliuer him, and bring hym to honoure.

⁵ Put thy trust in the Lord wyth all thyne hert, and leane not vnto thyne own vnderstandinge. ⁶ In all thy wayes haue respecte vnto hym, & he shal ordre thy goinges.

⁴ The Lorde thy God (no doute) hath well consydered the wordes of Rabsakeh, whom hys lorde the Kynge of the Assyrians hath sent, to defye & blaspheme the lyuynge God: with soch wordes as the Lord thy God hath heard right well. And therfore lyfte vp thy prayer for the remnaunt, that yet are left.

³ thou hast cryed vnto me, and I haue hearde the: I haue shewed greate and hye thinges, whiche were vnknowen vnto you.

¹⁷ oure GOD whome we serue, is able to kepe vs from the hote burnynge ouen (O kynge) and can right well delyuer vs oute of thy handes. ¹⁸ Turne you therfore, and consydre what difference is betwyxt the ryghteous & vngodly: betwyxt him that serueth God, and him that serueth him not.

¹² Howe thynke ye? If a man haue an hundred shepe, & one of them be gone astray, doth he not leaue nynty and nyne in the mountaynes, and go & seke that one whych is gone astraye.

¹⁹ Agayne I say vnto you, that if two of you shall agre in earth vpon any maner thyng whatsoeuer they shall desire: it shalbe geuen them of my father whyche is in heauen.

²⁴ And when they hearde that, they lifte vp their voices to God with one accorde, and saied: Lorde, thou art God, whiche haste made heauen and earth, the sea and al that in them is, ²⁵ whiche by the mouth of thy seruaunt Dauid hast said: Why dyd the heathen rage, and the people imagyn vaine thinges. ²⁶ The kinges of the earth stode vp and the rulers came together, againste Lorde and agaynste his Chryste. ²⁷ For of a trueth againste thy holy childe Iesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herode and also Poncius Pilate, with the Gentyls & the people of Israel, gathered them selues together, ²⁸ for to do whatsoeuer thy hande and thy councell determined before to be done. ²⁹ And nowe Lorde, beholde their threateninges, and graunte vnto thy seruauntes with all confidence to speake thy worde. ³⁰ So that thou stretche forth thy hande, that healing and signes and wounders be done by the name of thy holye chylde Iesus. ³¹ And assone as they had prayed, the place moued where they were assembled together, and they were all filled with the holy ghoste, and they spake the worde of God boldlye.

⁴ And when he had caught hym, he put hym in pryson, & deliuered hym to .iiij. quaternions of soudyers to be kept, entendynge after Easter to bryng hym forth to the people.

³⁰ I beseche you brethren for oure Lorde Iesus Christes sake, and for the loue of the spyryte, that ye healpe me in my busynes, with your prayers to God for me,

¹⁷ Notwithstandynge the Lord assisted me, & strenghthed me, that by me the preachynge shoulde be fulfylled to the vttermoste, and that al the Gentyles shoulde heare. And I was delyuered out of the mouth of the Lyon. ¹⁸ And the Lord shall delyuer me from all euyll doynge, and shall kepe me to his heauenly kyngdome. To whom be prayse for euer and euer, Amen.

⁹ The Lorde knoweth howe to deliuer the Godlye out of temptacion, and howe to reserue the vniuste vnto the daye of iudgement for to be punyshed,

⁶ And he sayed heare my wordes If there be a prophet of the Lordes among you, I wyl shewe my selfe vnto him in a visyon & wyll speake vnto hym in a dreame.

⁸ And the kynge of Syrya fought agaynste Israel, & toke councell with hys seruauntes, saying: In soche a place and in soche a place wyll I pytche. ⁹ And the man of God sent vnto the kynge of Israel, sayinge: Beware thou go not by suche a place, for there are the Syryans gone doune. ¹⁰ And the kynge of Israel sent to the place which the man of God tolde him and warned hym of, and saued hym self there more then once or twyse. ¹¹ And the hert of the kynge of Syrya was troubled therwyth, that he sent for his seruauntes, and sayde to them: wyl ye not shew me which of vs telleth the kynge of Israel. ¹² And one of hys seruauntes sayde: naye my Lorde kyng. Elizeus the Prophet that is in Israell, he telleth the kynge of Israel the wordes that thou speakest in thy slepynge chambre.

¹³ In the phantasyes and thoughtes of the vysyons of the nyght, when slepe cometh on men:

¹⁵ In dreames and visyons of the nyght season (when slombring commeth vpon men, that they fall a slepe in theyr beddes) ¹⁶ he roundeth them in the eares, he infourmeth them, and sheweth them playnelye,

¹⁴ The secrete of the Lorde is amonge them that feare him, and he sheweth them hys couenaunt.

¹⁷ God gaue nowe these foure spryngaldes connyng and learnyng in all scrypture and wysdome: but vnto Daniell specyally, he gaue vnderstandynge of all vysyons and dreames.

²² he openeth the depe secretes, he knoweth the thynge that lyeth in darckenesse, for the lyghte dwelleth wyth hym.

²⁷ Daniel aunswered the kynge to hys face, and sayd: As for this secrete, for the whiche the kynge maketh inquisicion: it is neyther the wyse, the sorcerer, the charmer nor the deuyll coniurer, that can certyfye the kynge of it: ²⁸ Onely God in heauen can open secretes, and he it is, that sheweth the kynge Nabuchodonosor, what is for to come in the latter dayes. Thy dreame, & that whiche thou hast sene in thyne heade vpon thy bed, is thys: ²⁹ O kyng thou dyddest caste in thy mynde, what shulde come hereafter: So he that is the opener of misteryes, telleth the, what is for to come.

⁹ O Balthasar, thou prince of southsayers: For so muche as I knowe, that thou haste the spryte of the holy Goddes, and no secrete is hyd from the: tell me therfore, what the vysyon of my dreame (that I haue sene) maye sygnifye.

⁷ After this I sawe in a vision by night, and beholde, the fourthe beast was grymme and horrible, and maruelous strong. It had great yron teeth, it deuoured and destroyed, and stamped the resydue vnder hys fete. It was farre vnlyke the other beastes, that were before it: for it had ten hornes, whereof I toke good hede.

⁷ Nowe doth the Lorde God no maner of thynge, but he telleth hys secrete before vnto hys seruauntes the Prophetes.

¹² And after they were warned of God in a dreame, that they should not go agayne to Herode, they retourned into their owne countre another waye. ¹³ When they were departed: Beholde the aungell of the Lorde appeared to Ioseph in a dreame sayinge. Aryse, and take the chylde & his mother, and flee into Egipte, and abyde there tyll I bringe the worde. For Herode wil seke the chylde to destroye him.

⁹ But as it was written: The eye hath not sene, and the eare hath not hearde, neither haue entred into the herte of man the thinges, which God hath prepared for them that loue him. ¹⁰ But God hath opened them to vs by hys spirite. For the spirite searcheth al thinges, ye the bottome of Goddes secretes.

²⁰ And blessed be God the most highest, which hath deliuered thyne enemies into thy handes. And Abram gaue hym tythes of all.

⁵⁶ Blessed be the Lord that hath geuen reste vnto hys people Israel according to all that he promysed, so that there is not one worde escaped of all the good promyses which he promysed by the hand of Moses hys seruaunte.

¹⁰ And Dauid blessed the Lorde before all the congregacyon and sayde: Blessed arte thou Lorde God of Israel oure father, from euer and for euer. ¹¹ Thyne (O Lorde) is greatenesse, power glorye, vyctorye and prayse: for all that is in heauen and in earthe is thyne, and thyne is the kyngedome (O Lorde) and thou arte lyfte vp an head aboue all. ¹² And rychesse and honoure come of the, and thou raygnest ouer all, and in thyne hande is power and strengthe, and in thyne hande it is to make greate, and to geue strengthe vnto all.

²⁰ And Dauid sayde to all the congregacion: blesse the Lorde youre God. And all the congregacyon blessed the Lorde God of theyr fathers, & stouped & bowed them selues vnto the Lorde, & to the Kynge.

²¹ And he gaue the people counsell, & set the syngers of the Lorde, & them that praysed in holy apparel, to go out before the army and to saye: prayse the Lorde, for hys mercye lasteth euer.

¹³ Ye with God is wysdome and strength, it is he that hath councell and forknowlege.

¹⁶ With hym is strength and wysdome: he knoweth bothe the disceyuer & hym that is disceyued. ¹⁷ He caryeth awaye the wyse men, as it were a spoyle, and bringeth the iudges out of their wyttes. ¹⁸ He lowseth the gyrdle of kynges, and gyrdeth theyr loynes with a bonde. ¹⁹ He ledeth awaye the Preastes in to captyuyte, and turneth the myghtye vpsyde downe. ²⁰ He taketh the verite from out of the mouth, & disapoynteth the aged of their wysdome. ²¹ He poureth out confusyon vpon Princes, and comforteth them that haue bene oppressed. ²² Loke what lyeth hyd in darcknesse, he declareth it openly: and the very shadowe of death bringet he to lyght.

¹³ O blessed be the Lorde God of Israel, from hence forth and for euermore. Amen. Amen.

²³ Who so offreth me thankes and prayse, he honoureth me: & this is the way, wherby I wyll shewe hym the sauynge healthe of God.

¹¹ God spake once a worde, twyse haue I hearde the same: that power belongeth vnto God

¹⁸ Blessed be the Lorde God, euen the God of Israell, whiche onely doeth wonderous thinges. ¹⁹ And blessed be the name of his maiesty for euer, and al landes be fulfilled with his glory. Amen, Amen.

¹ Of Dauid. Prayse the Lorde O my soule: & all that is within me prayse hys holy name. ² Prayse the Lord O my soule & forget not all his benefites.

² Blessed be the name of the lord, from this time forth euermore

¹⁸ But we wil prayse the Lord, from this time forth for euermore. Prayse the euerlastynge.

¹ A prayse of Dauid. I wyll magnifie the, O God my kyng, I wil prayse thy name for euer & euer. ² Euery daye wil I geue thankes vnto the, & praise thy name for euer and euer.

⁵ Great is our Lord, & great is his power: yea, hys wysdome is infinitie.

¹⁴ I can geue counsayl, & be a gyde: I haue vnderstanding I haue strength.

¹⁹ Thou art the greate and myghtie God, whose name is the Lorde of Hostes, greate in counsel, and infinite in thought. Thine eyes loke vpon all the wayes of mens chyldren, to rewarde euery one after his waye, and according to the frutes of his inuencyons.

²¹ he chaunged the tymes & ages: he putteth doune kynges, he setteth vp kinges he geueth wysdome vnto the wyse, & vnderstandynge to those that vnderstande, ²² he openeth the depe secretes, he knoweth the thynge that lyeth in darckenesse, for the lyghte dwelleth wyth hym. ²³ I thanke the, and prayse the (O thou God of my fathers) that thou haste lente me wysdom and strength, & hast shewed me the thyng, that we desyred of the, for thou haste opened the kynges matter vnto me.

¹³ And lead vs not into temptaciou. But delyuer vs from euyll. For thyne is the kingdome and the power, and the glorye for euer Amen.

²⁴ Vnto hym that is able to kepe you, that ye fal not, and to preserue you fautles before the presence of hys glorye wyth ioye,

¹² sayinge wyth a loud voyce: Worthy is the lamb that was kylled to receiue power, and riches, and wysdome, and strength, and honoure, & glorye and blessing.

³ And I haue fylled hym wyth the spirite of God, with wysdome, vnderstandynge and knoledge: euen in all maner worke,

⁶ And beholde. I haue geueth hym to be his companion Ahaliab the sonne of Ahisamach of the trybe of Dan, and in the hertes of al that are wyse harted I haue put wysdom to make al that I haue commaunded the:

⁷ The Lorde maketh pore, and maketh ryche, bryngeth lowe, and heueth vp on hye. ⁸ He reyseth vp the poore out of the duste, and lyfteth vp the begger from the dong hill: to set them among princes, and to enheret them with the seate of glory. For the pyllers of the earth are the Lordes, and he hath set the rounde worlde vpon them.

⁸ And thy seruaunt is in the myddes of thy people which thou hast chosen, a people that are so many that they can not be told nor nombred for multitude. ⁹ Geue therfore vnto thy seruaunt an vnderstandynge herte to iudge thy people, & to decerne betwene good, and bad. For who is able to iudge thys thy so waightye a people. ¹⁰ And it pleased the Lord well, that Salomon had desyred thys thynge. ¹¹ Wherfore God said vnto him: because thou hast asked this thynge and hast not asked long life, nether hast asked ryches, nor the lyues of thyne enemies, but hast asked the discrecion to vnderstand equite. ¹² Se, I haue done accordynge to thy petycyon: and beholde: I haue geuen thy a wyse and an vnderstandynge hert, so that there was none lyke the before, nether after the shal any aryse lyke vnto the.

²⁸ And all Israel hearde of the iudgement which the kyng had iudged and feared the kynge: for they sawe that the wysdome of God was in hym to do iustice.

²⁹ And God gaue Salomon wisdome & vnderstandyng excedyng muche & a large herte euen as the sande a longe by the sea bancke:

²⁴ And all the worlde resorted to Salomon, to heare his wysdome, which God had put in hys herte.

¹² And the Lord geue thy wysdom & vnderstandynge, & make the gouerner of Israel, & to kepe the law of the lord thy God.

³⁰ with all hys kyngdome & power, & tymes that wente ouer hym, & ouer all Israell, and ouer all the kyngedomes of the earthe.

¹⁰ Wherfore geue me wisdome and knowledge how to behaue my selfe vnto thys people: for who is able to iudge thys people that is so greate? ¹¹ Then God said to Salomon, because thou haddest thys in thyne herte, and dyddest not aske treasure and rychesse, honoure & the lyues of thyne enemyes, neyther yet longe lyfe: But hast asked wysdome and knoweledge, to iudge my people, ouer whiche I haue made the kyng: ¹² wisdome and knowledge shalbe geuen the, and I wyll geue the treasure, rychesse, & glorye also, that amonge the kynges before the or after the, none was or shalbe lyke the. ¹³ And the king spake to the wyse men that hath vnderstanding in the ordynaunces of the land for the kinges matters must be handled before all suche as haue knowledge of the lawe and iudgement:

¹⁸ He lowseth the gyrdle of kynges, and gyrdeth theyr loynes with a bonde.

²⁴ Manye one, yea innumerable doth he punyshe, and setteth other in theyr steades. ²⁵ For he knoweth theyr euyll and darcke worckes, therfore shall they be destroyed. ²⁶ They that were in the steade of Sears, dealte lyke vngodly men. ²⁷ Therfore turned they backe trayterously and vnfaythfully from hym, & wolde not receyue hys wayes. ²⁸ In so muche that they haue caused the voyce of the poore to come vnto hym, and nowe he heareth the complaynte of suche as are in necessite. ²⁹ If he delyuer and graunte pardon, who wil iudge or condemne? But yf he hyde away hys countenaunce, who wyll turne it aboute agayne, whether it be to the people or to anye man?

¹⁴ But my hope is in the Lord, and I say thou art my God. ¹⁵ My tyme is in thy hande: deliuer me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.

⁵ Set not vp your hornes on hie, and speake not wyth a styfe necke. ⁶ For promocyon commeth neyther from the East ner from the weste, ner yet from the wyldernesse ⁷ And why? God is the Iudge: he putteth downe one, and setteth vp another.

⁷ Which taketh vp the simple out of the dust and lyfteth the poore out of the myre. ⁸ That he may sette him amonge the prynces, euen amonge the prynces of hys people.

⁶ For it is the Lord that geueth wysdome, out of hys mouth commeth knowlege & vnderstandyng. ⁷ He preserueth the welfare of the righteous, & defendeth them that walke innocently:

¹⁵ Thorow me, kinges reygn: thorow me, prynces make iust lawes. ¹⁶ Thorow me, lordes beare rule, and all iudges of the earth execute iudgement.

¹ Every thynge hath a tyme, yea all that is vnder the heauen, hath his conuenient season. ² Their is a tyme to be borne, & a tyme to dye. Ther is tyme to plant, and a time to plucke vp the thing, that is planted. ³ A tyme to slay, and a tyme to make whole. A time to breake down, & a time to bild vp. ⁴ A time to wepe, and a time to laugh: A time to mourne, and a tyme to daunce: ⁵ A time to cast away stones, and a tyme to gather stones together: A tyme to enbrace, and a tyme to refrayne from enbrasyng. ⁶ A time to win, and a tyme to lose: A time to spare, and a tyme to spend: ⁷ A time to cut in peces, and a time to sowe together: A time to kepe silence, and a time to speake: ⁸ A tyme to loue, and a tyme to hate: A tyme of war, and time of peace:

⁵ I am he that made the earthe, the men, & the catell that are vpon the grounde, with my great power and outstretched arme, & haue geuen it vnto whome it pleased me. ⁶ And nowe wyl I delyuer all these landes into the power of Nabuchodonosor the Kynge of Babylon, my seruaunt. The beastes also of the felde shall I geue hym to do hym seruyce. ⁷ And all people shall serue hym, and hys sonne, and hys chyldes chyldren, vntyll the tyme of the same lande become also: yea many people & greate Kynges shall serue hym.

¹⁷ This erande of the watcher is a commaundement grounded and sought oute in the councell of him, that is most holye, to learne men for to vnderstande, that the hyest hath power, ouer the kyngedomes of men, and geueth them, to whome it lyketh hym, & bryngeth the very oute castes of men ouer them.

³² thou shalte be cast oute of mens companye: thy dwelling shalbe with the beastes of the felde, so that thou shalte eate grasse lyke as an oxe, tyll seuen yeares be come & gone ouer the: euen vntill thou knoweste, that the hyest hath power vpon the kyngdoms of men, and that he may geue them, vnto whom it pleaseth hym.

⁶ But after certayne yeares they shalbe ioyned together, and the kinges doughter of the south shall come to the kynge of the Northe, for to make frendshyp, but she shall not obtayne the power of that arme, neyther shall she be able to endure thorow his myght: but she, and such as brought her (yea and he that begat her, & comforted her for hys tyme) shalbe delyuered vp.

⁵¹ He sheweth strength with his arme, he scattereth them that are proude in the ymagynacion of their hertes. ⁵² He putteth doune the mightye from their seates, and exalteth them of low degre.

¹⁵ For I wyll geue you a mouthe and wisdome, where against all youre aduersaries shall not be able to speake nor resyste.

²¹ And after that, they desyred a kyng, and God gaue vnto them Saul the sonne of Cis, a man of the trybe of Beniamin by the space of .xl. yeares. ²² And after he had put him doune, he set vp Dauid to be theyr kynge of whom he reported sayinge: I haue founde Dauid the sonne of Iesse, a man after myne owne hert, he shall fulfyll all my wyll.

³⁰ And vnto him partaine ye in Christe Iesus, whiche of God is made to vs wysdome, and also rightuousnes, and sanctifiynge and redemption.

⁵ Yf anye of you lacke wysedome, let hym axe of God whiche geueth to all men indyfferentlye, and casteth no man in the teath: and it shal be geuen hym.

¹⁷ Euery good gyfte, and euerye perfecte gyfte, is from aboue and commeth doune from the father of lyght wyth whome is no varyablenes, neyther is he chaunged vnto darkenes.

¹⁵ Thys wysedome descendeth not from aboue: but is earthye, & naturall, and deuelyshe: ¹⁶ For where enuiynge and stryfe is there is vnstablenes and all maner of euyll workes. ¹⁷ But the wysedome that is from aboue, is fyrste pure, then peasable, gentle, and easye to be entreated, full of mercye & good frutes, wythoute iudgynge, and wythout simulacyon:

¹⁶ And hath on hys vesture & on hys thighe a name wrytten: king of kinges, & Lord of Lordes,

⁵ Moreouer Iosephe dreamed a dreame & told it his brethren: wherfore they hated him yet the more. ⁶ And he sayed vnto them heare I praye you thys dreame whyche I haue dreamed: ⁷ Beholde we were makynge sheues in the field: & lo, my sheffe arose and stode vpryght, & youres stode round aboute and made obeysaunce to my shefe. ⁸ Than sayd hys brethren vnto hym: what, shalt thou be our kyng or shalt thou reygne ouer vs? And they hated him yet the more, because of hys dreame and of hys wordes. ⁹ And he dreamed yet another dreame & told it his brethren sayinge: beholde, I haue had one dreame more: me thought the sonne and the moone and .xi. starres made obeysaunce to me.

¹⁶ And Ioseph answered Pharao saying: God shal geue Pharao an answere of peace without me.

²⁵ Then Ioseph sayde vnto Pharao: both Pharaos dreames are one. And God doth shewe Pharao what he is aboute to do. ²⁶ The seuen good kyne are .vij. yeres: & the seuen good eares: are seuen yeres also, and it is but one dreame. ²⁷ Likewyse the seuen thynne and euel fauored kyne that came out after them, are seuen yeres: and the .vij. emptye and blasted eares shalbe .vij. yeres of hunger. ²⁸ This is that whiche I sayde vnto Pharao, that god doth shewe Pharao what he is about to do.

²² Loke what lyeth hyd in darcknesse, he declareth it openly: and the very shadowe of death bringet he to lyght.

⁶ yea & all they which dwell beneth in the hell are not hid from him, and the very destruccion it selfe can not be kepte oute of his sighte.

⁹ For by the is the wel of lyfe, and in thy lyght, shall we se lyght.

² Thou deckest thy self with light, as it were with a garment, thou spredest out the heauen lyke a curtayne.

¹¹ If I saye: peraduenture the darkenesse shall couer me, then shall my nyghte be turned to daye. ¹² Yea, the darkenesse is no darkenesse with the, but the nyght is as cleare as the day, the darkenesse and light are both a lyke.

²² Let the goddes come forth them selues, & shewe vs the thynges that are past, what they be: let them declare them vnto vs, that we maye take them to herte, and knowe them herafter.

²⁶ Who tolde that afore? So wyll we confesse and saye, that he is rightuous: But there is none that sheweth or declareth any thynge, there is none also that heareth youre wordes.

⁹ shewe yow these newe tydynges, and tell you them or they come, for olde thynges also are come to passe.

⁷ It is I that created the lyght and darcknes, I make peace & trouble yee euen I the Lorde do all these thinges.

²⁴ Maye eny man hyde hym self so, that I shal not se him? sayeth the Lorde. Do not I fulfyll heauen and earth? sayeth the Lorde.

¹¹ for it is a very hard matter, that the kynge requyreth. Neither is there any, that can certyfye the kynge therof, except the Goddes: whose dwellyng is not among the creatures.

¹⁴ I haue heard speake of the, that thou haste the spryte of the holye Goddes, experience and vnderstandyng, and that there hath bene greate wysdome founde in the.

¹³ Therfore speake I to them in similitudes: for though they se, they se not: and hearyng they heare not: neyther vnderstand.

² For there is nothynge couered the shall not be vncouered: neyther hydde, that shall not be knowen. ³ For whatsoeuer ye haue spoken in darknes: that same shall be hearde in lyghte. And that whiche ye haue spoken in the eare, euen in secrete places, shall be preached euen on the toppe of the housses.

⁹ That was a true lyght, which lyghted all men that come into the worlde.

¹² Then spake Iesus agayne vnto them, saiynge. I am the lyghte of the worlde. He that foloweth me, shall not walke in darkenes: but shall haue the lyghte of lyfe.

⁴⁵ And he that seeth me, seeth hym that sent me. ⁴⁶ I am come a lyght into the worlde, that whosoeuer beleueth on me, shoulde not byde in darknes.

¹⁷ He saied vnto him the thyrde tyme: Simon Ioanna, louest thou me? And Peter sorowed, because he saied to him the thirde time, louest thou me, and said vnto him: Lord, thou knowest all thinge: thou knowest that I loue the. Iesus sayd vnto him: fede me shepe.

²⁵ To hym that is of power to stablysh you, accordynge to my Gospell and preachinge of Iesus Christe, in vtterynge of the mysterye whiche was kepte secrete sence the worlde began, ²⁶ but nowe is opened by the scriptures of prophesye, at the commaundemente of the euerlastynge God, to stere vp obedience to the fayth publyshed among all nacions:

⁹ But as it was written: The eye hath not sene, and the eare hath not hearde, neither haue entred into the herte of man the thinges, which God hath prepared for them that loue him. ¹⁰ But God hath opened them to vs by hys spirite. For the spirite searcheth al thinges, ye the bottome of Goddes secretes. ¹¹ For what man knoweth the thynges of a man, saue the spyryte of a man, whiche is wythin him. Euen so the thinges of God knoweth no man, but the spirite of God.

⁵ Therfore iudge nothinge before the tyme vntill the Lorde come, who wyll lyghten thinges, that are hyd in darckenes, and open the counsels of the hertes. And then shall euery man haue praise of God.

⁵ Which mysterye in tymes passed was not opened to the sonnes of men, as it is now declared vnto his holye Apostles and Prophetes by the spyrite

¹⁶ whiche onelye hath immortalitie, and dwelleth in lyght that no man can attayne, whome neuer man sawe, neyther can se, to whom be honoure and rule euerlastynge. Amen.

¹³ neyther is there anye creature inuisible in the syght of him. For all thinges are naked and bare vnto the eyes of him, of whom we speake.

⁵ And this is the tydinges that we haue heard of him, and declare vnto you, that God is lyghte and in him is no darckenes at al,

¹⁷ And the Lord sayd: Can I hyde from Abraham that thyng whyche I am about to do,

⁹ And Iacob said: O god of mi father Abraham, & God of my father Isaac: Lord whiche saydest vnto me, returne vnto thy countrye & to thy kynred, & I wyll do all well with the. ¹⁰ I am not worthy of the leaste of all the mercies & trueth whyche thou hast shewed vnto thy seruaunt. For wyth my stafe came I ouer thys Iordane, & now haue I goten two droues. ¹¹ Deliuer me from the handes of my brother Esau: for I feare hym: least he wyll come and smyte the mother wyth the chyldren.

¹⁵ And God spake further vnto Moyses: thus shalt thou say vnto the children of Israel: the Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, & the God of Iacob hath sent me vnto you: this is my name for euer, and thys is my memorial thorowout al generations.

⁵⁷ And the Lorde oure God be wyth vs, as he was wyth our fathers, and forsake vs not

³⁶ And when offeringe time was come, Eliah the prophete went to and sayde: Lord God of Abraham, Isaac and of Israel, let it be knowen thys daye, that thou art the God in Israel, and that I am thy seruaunt, and that I do al these thinges at thy commaundement.

¹⁰ And Dauid blessed the Lorde before all the congregacyon and sayde: Blessed arte thou Lorde God of Israel oure father, from euer and for euer.

¹³ And nowe oure God, we thanke the, and prayse thy gloryous name.

⁶ and sayde: Lorde God of oure fathers, arte not thou God in heauen, & raygnest not thou on all the kyngedomes of the Heathen? And in thyne hande is power and might, that noman can stande before the.

¹⁴ Offre vnto God prayse and thankesgeuynge, and paye thy vowes vnto the most hyest.

¹ Of Dauid. Prayse the Lorde O my soule: & all that is within me prayse hys holy name. ² Prayse the Lord O my soule & forget not all his benefites. ³ Whych forgeueth all thy synnes, & healeth all thyne infirmities. ⁴ Which saueth thy lyfe from destruccion, and crouneth the with mercy, and louynge kyndnesse.

²² A wyse man wynneth the citye of the mighty, and as for strength that they trust in, he bryngeth it downe.

⁵ A wise man is strong, yea a man of vnderstanding is better then he that is myghti of strength

¹⁹ Wisdom geueth more corage vnto the wise then ten myghty men of the cyty:

¹⁶ Then sayde I: wysdome is better then strengthe. Neuertheles, a simple mans wysedome is despised, & his wordes are not herde.

¹⁸ For wysdome is better then harnesse: but one vnthryft alone destroyeth much good.

¹ So that then thou shalt saye: O Lord I thanke the, for thou wast displeased at me, but thou haste refrained thy wrath, & hast mercy vpon me.

¹⁸ that they shulde beseche the God of heauen for grace in thys secrete, that Daniel and hys felowes wyth other soch as were wyse in Babylon, peryshed not.

²⁰ Daniel also cryed loude, and sayd: O that the name of God myghte be praysed for euer and euer, for wysdome and strengthe are hys owne: ²¹ he chaunged the tymes & ages: he putteth doune kynges, he setteth vp kinges he geueth wysdome vnto the wyse, & vnderstandynge to those that vnderstande,

²⁹ O kyng thou dyddest caste in thy mynde, what shulde come hereafter: So he that is the opener of misteryes, telleth the, what is for to come. ³⁰ As for me, thys secrete is not shewed me, for anye wysdome that I haue, more then anye other lyuynge: but onelye that I myghte shewe the kynge the interpretacyon, and that he myghte know the thoughtes of his owne herte.

²⁵ At that time Iesus aunswered and said: I prayse the, O father Lorde of heauen and earth, because thou hast hid these thinges from the wyse and prudent, and hast opened theim vnto babes:

²¹ That same time reioysed Iesus in the spirite, and sayde: I confesse vnto the father, Lorde of heauen and earth, that thou haste hyd these thynges from the wyse and prudente, and hast opened them to the babes. Euen so father for so pleased it the.

⁴¹ Then they toke awaye the stone from that place where the dead was layde. And Iesus lyft vp hys eyes, and sayde: Father I thanke the because that thou haste hearde me.

¹⁵ Henceforth call I you not seruauntes: for the seruaunt knoweth not what hys lorde doth. But you haue I called frendes, for all thynges that I haue heard of my father, I haue opened vnto you.

¹ The Reuelacyon of Iesus Christe which God gaue vnto hym, for to shew vnto his seruauntes thinges whiche muste shortely come to passe. And he sent and shewed by hys angel vnto hys seruaunt Iohn

⁵ And one of the elders sayd vnto me: wepe not: beholde a Lyon beinge of the tribe of Iuda, the rote of Dauid, hath obtayned to open the boke, and to lowse the .vij. seales therof.

¹² For the whiche cause the kyng was wroth with greate indignacyon, and commaunded to destroye all the wyse men at Babylon: ¹³ and the proclamacyon wente forthe, that the wyse men shuld be slayne, They sought also to slay Daniel with hys companions. ¹⁴ Then Daniel enquered Arioh the kynges stewarde, of the iudgement and sentence, that was gone forth already to kyll soche as were wyse at Babilon.

²⁴ sayinge. Feare not Paule, for thou muste be broughte before Cesar. And lo, God hath geuen vnto the all that sayle wyth the.

⁶ and founde wrytten therein: these are the sonnes of the lande, that wente vp from the captyuyte of the cariynge awaye (whome Nabuchodonosor the kynge of Babilon had broughte awaye) and came agayne to Ierusalem and Iuda, euery one vnto his citi

¹¹ Delyuer them that go into death, and are led away to be slayne, & be not negligent therin.

¹⁰ Whatsoeuer thou takest in hande to do, that do wyth all thy power: for among the dead, wher as thou goest vnto, ther is nether worcke, councel, knowledge ner wysdome.

⁶ Amonge these nowe were certayne of the chyldren of Iuda: namely Daniel, Ananias, Misael & Azarias.

¹³ Then was Daniel broughte before the kynge. So the kynge spake vnto Daniel, and sayde: Arte thou that Daniel, one of the presoners of Iuda, whome my father the kynge broughte oute of Iewry?

¹³ Then answered they, and sayde vnto the kynge: Daniel one of the presoners of Iuda, O kynge, regardeth neyther the, nor thy statute, that thou hast made, but maketh his peticion thre tymes a day.

²⁷ but God had chosen the folyshe thynges of the worlde, to confounde the wise. And God hath chosen the weake thinges of the worlde, to confounde thynges, whyche are myghty. ²⁸ And vile thinges of the world, and thinges whiche are despysed, hath God chosen, yea and thinges of no reputation for to bringe to nought thinges of reputation,

³³ And Saul sayde to Dauid agayn, thou art not able to go vnto thys Philistine, to fyght wyth hym. For thou art but a ladd, and he hath bene a man of warre euen from hys youth.

⁷ Vnto these the chefe chamberlayne gaue other names, & called Daniel, Balthazar: Ananias, Sidrach, Misael, Misach, and Asarias, Abednago.

³ And the king sayd vnto them: I haue dreamed a dreame, and my sprete was so troubled therewith, that I haue clene forgotten, what I dreamed. ⁴ Vpon thys the Caldees aunswered the kynge in the Syrians speach: O king, God saue thy lyfe for euer. Shew thy seruauntes the dreame, and we shal shewe the, what it meaneth. ⁵ The kynge gaue the Caldees theyr aunswere, & said: It is gone fro me: Yf ye wyl not make me vnderstande the dreame wyth the interpretacyon thereof, ye shall dye, & youre houses shalbe prysed. ⁶ But yf ye tell me the dreame & the meanynge therof, ye shall haue of me gyftes, rewardes & greate honoure: onely, shew me the dreame and the sygnifycacyon of it. ⁷ They aunswered agayne, and sayde: the kynge must shewe his seruauntes the dreame, & so shall we declare what it meaneth.

⁸ tyll at the laste, there came one Daniel (otherwyse called Balthazar, accordynge to the name of my God) whiche hath the sprete of the holy Goddes in hym: to whom I tolde the dreame, saying:

¹⁸ Thys is the dreame, that I kynge Nabuchodonosor haue sene. Therfore O Balthasar, tell thou me, what it sygnyfyeth: for so muche as the wyse men of my kyngdome are not able to shewe me, what it meaneth. But thou canst do it, for the spryte of the holy Goddes is in the. ¹⁹ Then Daniel (whose name was Balthasar) helde hys peace by the space of an houre, and hys thoughtes troubled hym. So the kynge spake, and sayd: O Balthasar, let neyther the dreame nor the interpretacyon therof feare the. Balthazar aunswered, saying: O my Lorde, this dreame happen to thyne enemyes, & the interpretacyon to thyne aduersaryes.

¹² because that suche an aboundaunt spryte knowledge & wysdome (to expound dreames, to open secretes, and to declare harde dowtes) was founde in hym: yea euen in Daniel whom the kynge named Balthazar. Let thys same Daniel be sente for, and he shall tell, what it meaneth.

¹⁶ Then heard I saye, that thou canste expounde darcke thynges, and declare harde doutes. Well then, yf thou canst reade thys wrytynge, and shewe me the meanynge therof: thou shalte be clothed with purple, haue a cheyne of golde aboute thy necke, and rule the thyrde parte of my kyngdome.

¹² Which destroyeth the deuyces of the sotyll, so that they are not able to performe the thinges that they take in hande: ¹³ whyche compasseth the wyse in theyr owne craftynesse, and ouerthroweth the councell of the wycked?

¹² Now go to thy coniurers, and to the multitude of thy witches (whom thou haste bene acquainted withall from thy youthe) yf they maye helpe the, or strengthen the. ¹³ Thou haste hytherto had manye councels of them, so let the heauengasers & the beholders of starres come on now and delyuer the: yea & let them shewe, when these new thynges shal come vpon the. ¹⁴ Beholde, they shalbe lyke strawe, whiche yf it be kindled with fyre, no man may rydde it for the vehemence of the flame: And yet it geueth no synners to warme a man by, nor cleare fyre to sit by.

² Then the kyng commaunded to cal together all the sothsayers, charmers, witches & Caldees, for to shew the king his dreame. So they came & stode before the king.

⁷ Wherfore the kynge cryed myghtelye, that they shulde brynge hym the charmers, Caldees and coniurers of deuyls. The kynge spake also to the wyse men of Babylon, and sayde: Who so can rede thys wrytynge, and shew me the playne meanyng therof, shalbe clothed wyth purple, haue a cheyne of golde aboute hys necke, and rule the thyrde parte of my kyngedome. ⁸ Vpon this, came al the kynges wyse men: but they coulde neyther reade the wrytynge, nor shewe the kinge what it signifyed.

¹ And Iacob called for hys sonnes & sayde: come together, that I may tell you what shall happen you in the last daies.

¹⁴ And now beholde, I go vnto my people: come let me shew the what thys people shall do to thy folke in the later dayes.

³⁰ In thy tribulation and when all these thynges are come vpon the euen in the later dayes, thou shalte turne vnto the Lorde thy God, and shalte herken vnto hys voyce.

¹⁹ Now therfore wryte ye this song, & teach it the chyldren of Israell and putt it in theyr mouthes, that this song maye be my witnes vnto the children of Israel.

³ As for oure God, he is in heauen, he doeth whatsoeuer it pleaseth him.

² It will be also in processe of tyme: That the hyl where the house of the Lorde is buylded, shal be the chefe amonge hylles, and exalted aboue al lytle hylles. And all the Heathen shall preache vnto hym, & the multytude of people shall go vnto hym,

²² Let the goddes come forth them selues, & shewe vs the thynges that are past, what they be: let them declare them vnto vs, that we maye take them to herte, and knowe them herafter. ²³ Ether, let them shewe vs thynges for to come, and tell vs what shalbe done her after: so shal we knowe, that they be goddes. Shewe somthing, ether good or bad: so wyll we both knowledge the same, and tell it out.

²⁴ The terryble dyspleasure of the Lorde shall not leaue of, vntyll he haue done, and perfourmed the intente of hys herte, whiche in the latter dayes ye shal vnderstande.

⁴⁷ Yet at the laste wyll I brynge Moab oute of captiuite agayne, sayth the Lord. Thus farre of the plage of Moab.

⁸ After many dayes thou shalt be visited, and in the latter yeares thou shalt come into the lande, that hath bene destroyed wyth the swearde, & now is replenyshed agayne wyth dyuerse people vpon the mountaynes of Israell, which haue longe lyen waste. Yee they be brought out of the nacyons, and dwell all safe.

¹⁶ Yee thou shalt come vpon my people of Israell, as a cloude to couer the lande. This shall come to passe in the latter dayes: I will bringe the vp into my lande, that the Heathen maye knowe me, when I get me honoure vpon the. O Gog before their eyes.

⁴⁷ The kynge aunswered Daniel, and sayde: yea of a trueth your God is a GOD aboue all Goddes, a Lorde aboue all kynges and an opener of secretes: seynge thou canste dyscouer thys mysterye.

¹⁴ & am come to shewe the, what shall happen vnto thy people in the latter dayes. For it wilbe longe yet or the vision be fulfilled.

⁵ But afterwarde shall the children of Israell conuerte, and seke the Lorde their God: and Dauid their kinge: & in the latter dayes, they shall worshyppe the Lorde, and hys louynge kindnesse.

¹³ For lo, he maketh the mountaynes, he ordeyneth the wynde, he sheweth man what he is aboute to do: he maketh the mornynge & the darcknesse: he treadeth vpon the hye places of the earthe: the Lorde God of hostes is hys name.

¹ Bvt in the latter dayes it wyll come to passe, that the hyll of the Lordes house shallbe sett vp hyer then enye mountaynes or hylles: Yee the people shall prease vnto it, ² and the multitude of the Gentyles shall haste them thyther, sayeng: Come lett vs go vp to the hyll of the Lorde, and to the house of the God of Iacob: that he maye teach vs hys wayes, & that we maye walke in hys parthes. For the lawe shall come out of Sion, and the worde of God from Ierusalem,

⁹ after this manner therfore pray ye. Our father which art in heauen, halowed be thy name.

¹ Thys vnderstand, that in the last dayes shall come perylous tymes.

¹ God in tyme paste diuerselye and manye wayes, spake vnto the fathers by Prophetes,

³ This fyrst vnderstande, that there shall come in the laste dayes mockers, which wyll walke after their own lustes

¹⁰ Moreouer, thus sayeth the Lorde God: At the same tyme shall manye thynges come in to thy mynde, so that thou shalt ymagyn myschefe,

²⁸ Onely God in heauen can open secretes, and he it is, that sheweth the kynge Nabuchodonosor, what is for to come in the latter dayes. Thy dreame, & that whiche thou hast sene in thyne heade vpon thy bed, is thys:

³ For I am the Lorde thy God, the holy one of Israel, thy Sauyour. I gaue Egypte for thy delyueraunce, the Moryans, and the Sabees for the: ⁴ because thou wast deare in my sight, and because I set by the, and loued the. I pylled all men for the, & delyuered vp al people for thy sake,

⁴ & that for Iacob my seruauntes sake and for Israel my chosen. For I called the by thy name, & ordened the or euer thou knewest me:

¹⁷ and then came he home agayne, & shewed the thynge vnto Ananias, Misael & Asarias hys companyons: ¹⁸ that they shulde beseche the God of heauen for grace in thys secrete, that Daniel and hys felowes wyth other soch as were wyse in Babylon, peryshed not.

⁴⁹ Now Daniel intreated the kynge so: Sidrach, Misach and Abednago, so that he made them rulers ouer all the offyces in the lande of Babylon: But Danyel hymselfe remayned styll in the courte by the kynge.

²² yea, and except those dayes should be shortened, there shoulde no fleshe be saued: but for the chosens sake, those daies shalbe shortened.

²⁰ And except that the Lord shoulde shorten those dayes, no man shoulde be saued. But for the electes sake which he hath chosen, he hath shortened those dayes.

¹² When Peter saw that, he aunswered vnto the people: ye men of Israel why maruaile ye at this or why loke ye so stedfastly on vs as though by our owne power or holines, we had made this man go.

²⁸ For we knowe that all thynges worke for the beste vnto them that loue God, whyche also are called of purpose.

²¹ Therfore let no man reioice in men. For all thinges are youres ²² whether it be Paule, other Apollo, other Cephas: whether it be the world, other lyfe, other deathe, whether they be present thynges or thinges to come: all are youres, ²³ and ye are Christes & Christ is Gods.

⁸ And last of al, he was sene of me, as of one that was borne out of due time. ⁹ For I am the leste of al the Apostles, whiche am not worthy to be called an Apostle, because I persecuted the congregation of God. ¹⁰ But by the grace of God I am that I am. And his grace which is in me, was not in vaine, but I laboured more aboundantly then they al, not I but the grace of God which is with me. ¹¹ Whether it were I or they, so we preache, and so haue ye beleued. ¹² If Christe be preached howe that he rose from death: howe saye some? that are amonge you, that there is no resurreccion from death?

¹⁵ For all thynges do I for youre sakes, that the plentuous grace by thankes geuen of manye, maye redounde to the prayse of God.

¹¹ And I will punysh the wickednesse of the worlde, and the synnes of the vngodly, sayeth the Lorde. The hye stomackes of the proude wyl I take awaye, and will laye doune the boastynge of tyrauntes.

³ Therfore the very rude people must magnifie the, & the cities of the cruel Heathen muste feare the. ⁴ For thou art the poore mans helpe, a strength for the neadful in his necessyte. Thou art a defence against euyll wether, a shadow agaynst the hete. But vnto the presumptuous, thou art lyke a stronge whyrle wynde, that casteth doune ⁵ the boastynge of the vngodly: thou kepest men from heate, wt the shadow of the cloudes, thou cuttest of the braunches of tyrauntes.

⁷ behold, I wil bring enemies vpon the, euen the tyrauntes of the Heathen: these shall drawe out their swerdes vpon thy bewtye and wysedome, and shall defyle thy glory.

³ and foure great beastes came vp from the sea one vnlyke another. ⁴ The fyrste was a lion, and yet had he Aegles winges. I sawe, that hys wynges were plucte from him, and he taken awaye from the earth: that he stode vpon hys fete as a man, and that there was geuen him a mans herte. ⁵ Beholde, the seconde beaste was lyke a beer & stode vpon the one syde. Amonge his teeth in his mouth he had .iij. greate longe teeth, & it was sayde vnto him: Aryse: eate vp, much fleshe. ⁶ Then I loked, and beholde, there was another lyke vnto a leoparde: thys had wynges as a foule, euen four vpon the backe. This beaste had foure heades, and there was power geuen him. ⁷ After this I sawe in a vision by night, and beholde, the fourthe beast was grymme and horrible, and maruelous strong. It had great yron teeth, it deuoured and destroyed, and stamped the resydue vnder hys fete. It was farre vnlyke the other beastes, that were before it: for it had ten hornes, whereof I toke good hede. ⁸ And beholde, there came vp amonge them another lyke horne, before whom there were thre of the fyrste hornes pluckte awaye. Beholde, thys horne had eyes lyke a man, and a mouth speakynge presumptuous thynges. ⁹ I loked tyl the seates were prepared, and tyll the olde aged sat hym doune. His clothynge was as whyte as snowe, and the hearres of hys heade, lyke the pure woll. His trone was lyke the fyrye flamme, and his wheles as the burnynge fyre. ¹⁰ There drewe forthe a fyrye streame, and wente out from him. A thousande tymes a thousande serued him .x.M. tymes ten thousande stode before him. The iudgement was set, and the bokes opened. ¹¹ Then toke I hede therunto, because of the voyce of the proude wordes, whyche the horne spake. I behelde, tyll the beaste was slayne, and his bodye destroyed, and geuen ouer to be brent in the fire. ¹² As for the power of the other beastes also it was taken awaye, but their lyues were prolonged for a tyme and season. ¹³ I sawe in a vision by nyght, and beholde, there came one in the cloudes of heauen lyke the sonne of a man, whyche went vnto the olde aged, before whome they broughte hym. ¹⁴ Then gaue he hym power and dignitie regal, that al people trybes and tunges shoulde serue him. Hys power is an euerlastynge power, whych shal neuer be put doune, and his kingdome endureth vncorrupte. ¹⁵ My herte was vexed, and I Daniel had a troubled spirite within me, and the visions of my heade made me afrayed: ¹⁶ til I gat me vnto one of them that stode by, to knowe the trueth, concernynge all these thynges. So he tolde me, and made me vnderstand the interpretacion of these thinges. ¹⁷ These foure greate beastes, are foure kynges, whiche shal arise out of the earth.

⁷ A grymme and boysteours people is it, these shall sit in iudgement, and punish.

⁸ The deuil toke him vp again & ledde him into an exceding hye mountayne, and shewed him all the kingdoms of the world, & al the glory of them,

⁵ And the deuyl toke him vp into an hye mountayne, and shewed him all the kyngdomes of the worlde euen in the twincklinge of an eye.

⁴ then shalte thou vse thys mockage vpon the Kynge of Babylon, and saye: Howe happeneth it, that the oppressoure leaueth of? Is the goulden trybute come to an ende?

⁷ Babylon hath bene in the Lordes hande a golden cuppe, that maketh all landes droncken. Of her wyne haue all people droncken, therfore are they oute of theyr wyttes.

³⁷ O kynge, thou arte a kynge of kynges: For the God of heauen hath geuen the a kyngdome, ryches, strengthe and maiestye: ³⁸ & hathe delyuered the all thynges, that are amonge the children of men: the beastes of the feld, and the foules vnder the heauen, and geuen the dominyon ouer them al. Thou arte that golden head. ³⁹ After the there shall aryse another kyngdome, whiche shall be lesse then thyne. The thyrde kyngedome shalbe lyke copper, & haue dominacyon in all landes.

²² Euen thou (O kynge) arte the tre, great & stronge. Thy greatnesse increaseth, and reacheth vnto the heauen, so doth thy power to the endes of the earthe.

³⁰ and sayde: Thys is the greate cytye of Babilon, which I my selfe (wyth my power & strengthe) haue made a kynges courte, for the honour of my magestye.

³ Then I loked vp, and sawe, and beholde there stode before in the riuer, a ramme, whiche had hornes: and these hornes were hye, but one was hyer then another, & the hyest came vp last. ⁴ I sawe that this ramme pushed with his hornes againste the west, agaynste the north, and againste the south: so that no beastes might stande before him, nor defende them from his power: but he did as him lysted, & waxed greatly. ⁵ I toke hede vnto this, & then came there an hegoate from the west ouer the whole earthe, and touched not the grounde. This goate had a maruelous goodly horne betwixte his eyes, ⁶ and came vnto the ramme that had the two hornes (whome I had sene afore by the ryuer syde) and ranne fearcelye vpon him with his might. ⁷ I sawe him drawe nye vnto the ramme, beynge very fearce vpon him, yea he gaue him suche a stroke, that he brake his two hornes: Neyther had the ramme so much strength as to stande before him: but he cast him doune, trodde him vnder his fete: and no man was able to delyuer the ramme out of his power. ⁸ The goate waxed exceadinge greate, & when he was at the strongest, his great horne was broken also. Then grewe there other foure suche lyke in the steade, toward the .iiij. windes of the heauen.

² and nowe wil I shew the the trueth. Beholde, there shall stande vp yet thre kynges in Persia, but the fourth shal be farre rycher then they all. And when he is in the chefest power of his ryches, he shall prouoke euery man against the realme of Grekelande. ³ Then shall there aryse yet a myghty kinge, that shall rule with greate dominion, and do what him lyst. ⁴ And as sone as his kingedome cometh vp, it shalbe destroyed, and deuyded toward the foure windes of the heauen. They that come after hym, shall not haue suche power and domynyon as he: but hys kyngedome shalbe scatred, yea euen amonge other then those. ⁵ And the kyng of the south shal be myghtyer, then his other princes. Agaynste him there shall one make hymselfe stronge, and shal rule his dominyon wt greate power. ⁶ But after certayne yeares they shalbe ioyned together, and the kinges doughter of the south shall come to the kynge of the Northe, for to make frendshyp, but she shall not obtayne the power of that arme, neyther shall she be able to endure thorow his myght: but she, and such as brought her (yea and he that begat her, & comforted her for hys tyme) shalbe delyuered vp. ⁷ Oute of the braunches of her rote, there shall one stande vp in his steade: whiche with power of armes shal go thorow the kinges lande of the North, & handle hym according to his strength. As for their Idols & princes, with their costly Iewels of goulde & syluer, ⁸ he shal carye them awaye captiues into Egipte, & he shall preuayle agaynste the kyng of the north certayne yeares. ⁹ And when he is come into the kinges realm of the south he shalbe fayne to turne agayne into hys owne lande. ¹⁰ Wherfore hys sonnes shalbe displeased, and shall gather together a myghtye greate hoste of people: and one of them shall come, and go thorowe lyke a waterflowed: then shall he returne, and go forth with defyinge and boastinge vnto his owne lande. ¹¹ Then the kynge of the south shalbe angry and shall come forthe to fyght agaynste the kinge of the north: yea he shal brynge a great multitude of people together, & a great heape shalbe geuen into hys hande: ¹² these shall he cary awaye with greate pryde, for so muche as he hath cast doune so many thousandes, neuertheles he shall not preuayle. ¹³ For the king of the north shal gather (of the new) a greater heape of people then afore, & come forth (after a certayne tyme & yeares) wyth a mighty hoste and exceadinge greate good. ¹⁴ At the same tyme there shall manye stande vp agaynst the kynge of the south, so that the wycked children of thy people also shall exalte them selues (to fulfyll the vysyon) & then fall. ¹⁵ So the kynge of the North shall come to laye sege, & to take the stronge fensed cytyes: And the power of them of the south shal not be able to abyde him, and the best men of the people shal not be so stronge, as to resist him. ¹⁶ Shortely, when he commeth, he shall handle him as he list, & no man shalbe so hardy as to stande agaynst hym. He shall stand in the pleasaunt countreye, whiche thorow him shalbe destroyed. ¹⁷ He shal set his face wt al his power to obtayne his kyngedome, and to be lyke it. Yea that shall he do, and geue hym vnto the doughters amonge wemen, to destroye hym. But he shall fayle, neyther shall he obtayne his purpose. ¹⁸ After this shall he set hys face vnto the Iles, & take many of them. A prynce shal stoppe him, to do hym a shame, besyde the confusyon that els shall come vnto hym. ¹⁹ Thus shall he tourne agayne to hys owne lande, stomble, & fall, and be no more founde: ²⁰ so he that came vpon him & did him violence, shal stande in his place, & haue a pleasaunte kingedom: and after few dayes he shalbe destroyed, and that neyther in wrath, nor in battell.

⁴ And the woman was arayed in purple & rose coloure, and decked wyth golde, precious stones and pearles, and had a cuppe of golde in her hand full of al abominacions and fylthines of her fornicacion.

⁴⁰ The fourthe kyngdome shalbe as stronge as yron. For lyke as yron broseth and breaketh all thynges: Yea euen as yron beateth euery thynge doune, so shall it beate doune and destroye. ⁴¹ Where as thou sawest the fete and toes, parte of earthe, and parte of yron: that is a deuyded kyngedome, whiche neuertheles shall haue some of the yron grounde myxte with it, for so muche as thou haste sene the yron mixte with the claye. ⁴² The toes of the fete that were parte of yron and parte of claye, sygnifyeth, that it shalbe a kyngdome partely stronge and partly weake. ⁴³ And where as thou sawest yron myxte wyth claye: they shall myngle them selues wyth the sede of symple people, & yet not contynue one wyth another, lyke as yron wyll not be souldered with a potsherde.

¹⁹ After this I requyred diligently to knowe the trueth, concerning the fourth beast, whiche was so farre vnlyke the other beastes, and so horrible: whose teeth were of yron, and his nayles of brasse: which deuoured and destroyed, and stamped the residue vnder his fete. ²⁰ I desired also to knowe the trueth, as touching the ten hornes that he had vpon hys heade, and thys other, whiche came vp afterwarde, before whose face there fell doune thre: whyche horne had eyes, and a mouthe that spake presumptuous thynges, and loked with a grymmer vysage, then his felowes. ²¹ I behelde, and the same horne made battaile againste the saintes, yea and gat the victorie of them, ²² vntill the tyme that the olde aged came, that the iudgemente was geuen to the chefest sayntes: and till the tyme that the saintes hath the kingedome in possession. ²³ He gaue me this answere: That fourthe beast shalbe the fourth kingedome vpon earth: it shalbe more then all other kingedomes, it shall deuoure, treade doune, and destroye all other landes. ²⁴ The ten hornes are ten kinges, that shall aryse out of the kingedom, after whom there shall stande vp another, whiche shalbe greater then the fyrste. ²⁵ He shall subdue thre Kynges, and shal speake wordes against the hyest of all: he shall destroy the saintes of the most hyest, and thincke, that he may chaunge tymes and lawes. They shalbe geuen vnder his power, vntill a time, two tymes, and half a tyme. ²⁶ But the iudgemente shalbe kepte, so that his power shalbe taken from him, for he shall be destroyed, and perishe at the laste.

⁸ Desyre of me, and I shall geue the Heathen for thyne enherytaunce. Yea the vttermost partes of the worlde for thy possessyon. ⁹ Thou shalt rule them wyth a rodde of yron, and breake them in peces lyke an earthen vessell. ¹⁰ Be wyse nowe therfore, O ye Kinges, be warned, ye that are iudges of the earthe. ¹¹ Serue the Lorde wyth feare, and reioyse before hym wyth reuerence. ¹² Kysse the sonne, lest the Lorde be angrye and so ye peryshe from the ryght way. For his wrath shalbe kindled shortly: blessed are all they that put their trust in hym.

⁵ The Lorde vpon thy ryghte hande, shall smyte euen kinges in the daye of hys wrath. ⁶ He shall be iudge amonge the Heathen, he shall fyl them wyth deade bodyes, and smite in sunder the heades ouer diuerse countres.

²² The same stone whych the builders refused, is become the heade stone in the corner

⁶ Let the prayses of God be in their mouth and sharpe swerdes in their handes. ⁷ To be auenged of the Heathen, and to rebuke the people. ⁸ To bynde their Kynges in cheynes, and their nobles with lynckes of yron. ⁹ That they may be auenged of them, as it is written, such honour haue all his saynctes. Prayse the euerlastynge.

¹⁶ Therfore sayth the Lorde God: Beholde, I wyll laye a stone in Syon a great stone, a costly corner stone for a sure foundacyon: that who so putteth hys truste in hym, shall not be confounded.

¹² For euery poeple & kingedom that serueth not the, shal perysh, and be destroyed with the swerd.

⁴⁴ In the dayes of these kinges shall the God of heauen set vp an euerlastynge kyngdome whiche shall not peryshe, and hys kyngdome shall not be geuen ouer to another people: yea the same shal breake and destroy al these kingdomes, but it shall endure foreuer. ⁴⁵ And where as thou saweste, that withoute any handes there was cut oute of the mounte a stone, whiche brake the yron, the copper, the earthe, the syluer and golde in peces: by that hath the greate God shewed the kynge, what wyll come after thys. This is a true dreame, and the interpretacyon of it is sure.

¹³ I sawe in a vision by nyght, and beholde, there came one in the cloudes of heauen lyke the sonne of a man, whyche went vnto the olde aged, before whome they broughte hym. ¹⁴ Then gaue he hym power and dignitie regal, that al people trybes and tunges shoulde serue him. Hys power is an euerlastynge power, whych shal neuer be put doune, and his kingdome endureth vncorrupte.

²⁷ As for the kingedome, power and all might that is vnder the heauen, it shalbe geuen to the holy people of the most hyest, whose kingedome is euerlastinge, yea all powers shall serue & obeye him.

²⁵ And thorowe his craftynes, falshed shall prospere in his hande, hys herte shalbe proude, and many one shall be put to deathe in his welthinesse. He shall stand vp against the Prince of Princes, but he shalbe destroyed wythoute hande.

⁶ He aunswered, and sayde vnto me: Thys is the word of the Lorde vnto Zorobabel, saying: Nether thorowe an hoste of men, nor thorow strength, but thorowe my sprete, sayeth the Lorde of hoostes.

³ At the same tyme wil I make Ierusalem, an heauye stone for al people, so that al such as lift it vp shalbe toarne & rente, & all the people of the earth shalbe gathered together against it.

¹⁸ And I saye also vnto the that thou arte Peeter: and vpon thys rocke I wil buylde my congregacion. And the gates of hell shall not preuayle against it.

¹³ & which were borne not of the bloude nor of the wyl of the flesh, nor yet of the wyll of man: but of God.

¹¹ This is the stone cast asyde of you builders, which is set in the chiefe place of the corner.

¹ We knowe surelye yf oure earthy mansyon wherin we nowe dwell were destroyed, that we haue a buyldynge ordeyned of God an habitacyon not made with handes, but eternall in heauen.

²⁴ For Christe is not entred into the holye places that are made wyth handes, whiche are but simylytudes of true thynges: but is entred into verye heauen, for to appere nowe in the syghte of God for vs:

⁷ Vnto you therfor whiche beleue, he is precyous, but vnto them whiche beleue not, the stone whiche the buylders refused the same is made the head stone in the corner,

¹⁵ And the seuenth angell blewe, and there were made greate voyces in heauen, sayinge: the kyngdomes of thys worlde are oure Lordes and hys Christes, & he shall raygne for euer more.

¹⁴ These shal fyght wt the lamb, & the lamb shal ouercome them. For he is Lorde of Lordes, & kinge of kinges, & they that are on his syde, are called the chosen and faithful.

¹¹ And I sawe heauen open, & beholde a whyt horsse: and he that sate vpon hym was faythful and true, & in rightuousnes dyd he iudge & make battayl. ¹² His eyes were as a flame of fyre, and on hys head were manye crounes, and he had a name wrytten, that no man knewe but he hym self. ¹³ And he was clothed with a vesture dipt in bloud, & his name is called the worde of God. ¹⁴ And the warryers whiche were in heauen, folowed hym vpon whyte horsses, clothed with whyte & pure raynes: ¹⁵ & out of hys mouthe went out a sharpe swearde, that with it he should smyte the heathen. And he shal rule them wyth a rod of Iron, & he trode the wine fat of the fiercenes & wrath of almightye God. ¹⁶ And hath on hys vesture & on hys thighe a name wrytten: king of kinges, & Lord of Lordes, ¹⁷ And I sawe an angel stand in the sunne & he cryed wyth a loud voyce, saiyng to al the foules that flye by the myndes of heauen come & gather youre selues together vnto the supper of the great God, ¹⁸ that ye may eate the flesh of kinges, & of hye captaynes, & the fleshe of myghty men, and the flesh of horsses, & of them that sit on them, & the flesh of all free men & bonde men, & of small & great. ¹⁹ And I sawe the beast and the kynges of the earth, & theyr warriers gathered together to make battayl against him that sat on the horse & agaynst hys souldyers. ²⁰ And the beast was taken, & with hym that false prophete that wrought miracles before him with which he deceyued them that receiued the beastes marke, & them that worshipped his Image These both were cast into a ponde of fyre burnyng with brimstone: ²¹ and the remnaunte were slayne with the swerd of him that sate vpon the horse, which swerd proceded out of his mouth & all the foules were fulfilled with their flesh.

¹⁷ When theyr time commeth, they shalbe destroyed and perishe: and when they be set on fyre, they shalbe remoued oute of theyr place,

⁴ As for the vngodly, it is not so with them but they are lyke the dust, wych the wynde scatered awaye from the grounde. ⁵ Thefore the vngodly shall not be able to stande in the iudgement, nether the synners in the congregacyon of the ryghtuous.

²⁷ All the endes of the worlde shall remembre them selfes, and be turned vnto the Lorde: & all the generacions of the Heithen shal worshippe before hym.

¹⁰ Suffre yet a litle whyle, and the vngodly shalbe cleane gone: thou shalt loke after hys place, and he shalbe awaye.

³⁶ but when I went by, lo, he was gone: I sought hym, but he coulde no where be founde.

⁹ He hath made warres to cease in all the worlde: he hathe broken the bowe, he hathe knapped the speare in sonder, and brente the charettes in the fyre.

⁴ O that all the worlde woulde worshippe the, synge of the, and prayse thy name. Selah

¹ To the chaunter, in Neginoth, a Psalm and songe. God be mercyfull vnto vs, blesse vs, and shewe the lyght of hys countenaunce vpon vs. Selah ² That we maye knowe thy waye vpon earth, thy sauynge helth among al Heathen.

¹⁶ There shalbe an heape of corne in the earth hye vpon the hilles, his frute shal shake like Libanus, and shalbe grene in the cytye, lyke grasse vpon the earth. ¹⁷ Hys name shal endure for euer, his name shall remayne vnder the sunne amonge the posterites, which shalbe blessed thorow him and all the Heathen shall prayse hym.

⁹ Thou madest rowme for it, and caused it to take rote, so that it fylled the lande. ¹⁰ The hylles were couered with the shadow of it, and so were the stronge Cedre trees wt the bowes therof.

⁹ All nacyons whom thou hast made, shall come and worship before the, O Lorde, and shal gloryfy thy name.

¹⁶ For as sone, as the wynde goeth ouer it, it is gone, and the place thereof knoweth it no more.

² It will be also in processe of tyme: That the hyl where the house of the Lorde is buylded, shal be the chefe amonge hylles, and exalted aboue al lytle hylles. And all the Heathen shall preache vnto hym, & the multytude of people shall go vnto hym, ³ speakynge thus one to another: vp let vs go to the hyll of the Lorde, & to the house of the God of Iacob: that he maye shewe vs hys waye, and that we maye walcke in hys pathes. For the lawe shall come out of Syon and the worde of God from Ierusalem,

⁹ No man shall do euyl to another, no man shall destroye another, in all the hyll of my Sanctuarye. For the earth shalbe full of the knowledge of the Lorde, euen as thoughe the water of the sea floweth ouer the earth.

¹³ For thoughe so manye people increase as the flowynge waters, and though they be armed yet they fle farre of, and vanyshe awaye lyke the dust with the winde vpon an hill, and as the whirle winde thorow a storme. ¹⁴ Thoughe they be fearfull at night, yet in the morninge it is gone with them. This is their porcyon, that do vs harme, and heritage of them, that robbe vs.

¹⁵ Beholde, I will make the a treadyng cart & a new flayle, that thou mayest thresshe and grynd the mountaynes, and brynge the hylles to poulder. ¹⁶ Thou shalt fanne them, & the wynde shall carye them awaye, and the whyrlwynde shall scater them. But thou shalt reioyse in the Lorde, and shalt delyte in praysinge the holy one of Israel.

³ Therfore they shalbe as the morning cloud, & as the dew that early passeth away, & lyke as dust that the wynde taketh awaye from the floure, and as smoke that goeth oute of the chymney.

¹³ Therfore get the vp, O thou doughter Sion, & throsshe out the corne: For I wyll make thy horne yron, and thy clawes brasse, that thou mayest grynde many people their goodes shalt thou appropriate vnto the Lorde, and their substaunce vnto the ruler of the whole worlde.

⁸ In that tyme shal the waters of lyfe runne out from Ierusalem: the half parte of them toward the east sea, & the other half toward the vttermost sea, & shal continue both somer & winter. ⁹ And the lord him selfe shalbe king ouer al the earth. At that time shal there be one Lord onlye, & his name shalbe but one.

²⁵ For he muste reigne tyll he haue put all hys enemies vnder his fete.

⁸ and preuayled not, neyther was theyr place found any more in heauen.

² And he toke the dragon that olde serpent which is the deuyl and Satanas, & he bound him a thousand yeares: ³ and cast him into the botomles pyt, and he bounde hym, and set a seale on him, that he shuld deceyue the people nomore, tyl the thousand yeares were fulfilled. And after that he must be loused for a lytle season.

¹¹ And I sawe a great whyte seate and hym that sate on it, from whose face fled away bothe the earthe & heauen, & theyr place was no more founde.

²³ I thanke the, and prayse the (O thou God of my fathers) that thou haste lente me wysdom and strength, & hast shewed me the thyng, that we desyred of the, for thou haste opened the kynges matter vnto me. ²⁴ Vpon this went Daniel in vnto Arioh, whome the kynge had ordeyned to destroye the wyse at Babylon: he went vnto hym, & sayde: destroye not suche as are wyse in Babylon, but brynge me in vnto the kynge, and I shall shewe the kynge the interpretacyon.

²⁴ For he ruled in all the regyons on the other syde Euphrates, from Thaphsah to Gaza, and also ouer all the kinges on the other syde the sayd Euphrates. And he had peace with all hys seruauntes on euery syde.

²³ Thus sayth Cyrus kynge of Persia, all the kyngdomes of the earthe hath the Lorde God of heauen geuen me, whiche hath charged me to buylde hym an house in Ierusalem that is in the lande of Iuda. Wherfore whosoeuer is amonge you of all his people, the Lord his God be with hym, & let hym go vp.

² Thus sayth Cyrus the king of Persia: The Lord God of heauen hath geuen me al the kingdomes in the land & hath commaunded me to buylde him an house at Ierusalem in Iuda.

¹² Vnto Esdras the priest and scribe in the lawe of the God of heauen, peace and salutacyon.

¹⁵ Thorow me, kinges reygn: thorow me, prynces make iust lawes.

⁸ for he sayth: are not my princes al kinges?

⁵ Syt styll, holde thy tunge, & get the in to some darcke corner, O daughter Chaldea, for thou shalt nomore be called lady of kyngdomes.

¹⁴ For thus sayth the Lorde of hostes the God of Israel: I will put a yocke of yron vpon the necke of all thys people, that they maye serue Nabuchodonosor the kynge of Babylon, yea & so shal they do. And I wyll geue him the beastes in the felde.

⁷ For thus sayeth the Lord God: Beholde, I will bringe hither Nabuchodonozor (which is the Kynge of Babylon, and a kinge of kinges) from the North vpon Tire, with horses charettes, horsmen, and with a greate multytude of people.

³ O how greate are hys tokens, and howe myghtie are hys wonders? His kyngedome is an euerlastynge kyngedome, and hys power lasteth for euer & euer.

²⁵ Thou shalte be caste oute from men, & thy dwellyng shalbe with the beastes of the feld: with grasse shalte thou be fed lyke an oxe. Thou must be wet with the dewe of the heauen, yea seuen yeares shall come, and go vpon the, tyll thou know, that the hyest hath power vpon the kingedomes of men, & geueth them to whome he lyst.

³⁴ When this tyme was passed, I Nabuchodonosor lyfte vp myne eyes vnto heauen, and myne vnderstandynge was restored vnto me agayne. Then gaue I thanckes vnto the hyghest. I magnifyed and praysed hym that lyueth for euermore, whose power endureth alwaye, and his kingdome from one generacion to another:

¹⁸ O kynge, God the hyest gaue vnto Nabuchodonosor thy father, the dignite of a kynge with worshippe and honoure,

¹⁰ therfore are they scatred amonge the Heathen, there will I gather them vp. They shall sone be wery of the burthen of kinges & prynces.

¹¹ Iesus aunswered: Than couldest haue no power at all agaynst me, except it were geuen the from aboue. Therfore he that delyuered me vnto the, is more in synne.

⁵ and from Iesus Christ, whiche is a faythfull wytnes, and fyrst begotten of the dead, and Lorde ouer the kynges of the earth. Vnto him, that loued vs and washed vs from synnes in his owne bloude,

¹¹ thou art worthy Lorde to receiue glory and honour and power, for thou hast created al thinges, and for thy wylles sake they are and were created.

¹⁰ For all the beastes of the felde are myne, and thousandes of cattell vppon the hylles. ¹¹ I know al the foules vpon the mountaynes, and the wylde beastes of the felde are in my sight.

²¹ whose leues were fayre, and the frute muche, vnder the whiche the beastes of the feld had theyr habitacion, and vpon whose braunches the foules of the ayre dyd syt. ²² Euen thou (O kynge) arte the tre, great & stronge. Thy greatnesse increaseth, and reacheth vnto the heauen, so doth thy power to the endes of the earthe.

²⁸ I saye to Cyrus: thou art myne herd man: so that he shall fulfill all thinges after my will. I saye to Ierusalem: be thou buylded, & to the temple: be thou fast grounded.

³² The Image head was of fyne golde, hys breste & armes of siluer, his body and loynes were of copper,

²⁸ Phares, thy kyngdome is delte in partes, and geuen to the Medes and Perses. ²⁹ Then commaunded Balthazar, to clothe Daniel wyth purple, to hange a cheyne of golde aboute hys necke, and to make a proclamacyon concerning him: that he shulde be the ruler of the thyrde parte of hys kyngedome. ³⁰ The very same nyghte was Balthazar the kynge of the Caldees slayne, ³¹ and Darius out of Medea toke in the kyngedome, beyng .lxij. yeare of age.

⁵ Beholde, the seconde beaste was lyke a beer & stode vpon the one syde. Amonge his teeth in his mouth he had .iij. greate longe teeth, & it was sayde vnto him: Aryse: eate vp, much fleshe. ⁶ Then I loked, and beholde, there was another lyke vnto a leoparde: thys had wynges as a foule, euen four vpon the backe. This beaste had foure heades, and there was power geuen him. ⁷ After this I sawe in a vision by night, and beholde, the fourthe beast was grymme and horrible, and maruelous strong. It had great yron teeth, it deuoured and destroyed, and stamped the resydue vnder hys fete. It was farre vnlyke the other beastes, that were before it: for it had ten hornes, whereof I toke good hede.

²³ He gaue me this answere: That fourthe beast shalbe the fourth kingedome vpon earth: it shalbe more then all other kingedomes, it shall deuoure, treade doune, and destroye all other landes.

³ Then I loked vp, and sawe, and beholde there stode before in the riuer, a ramme, whiche had hornes: and these hornes were hye, but one was hyer then another, & the hyest came vp last. ⁴ I sawe that this ramme pushed with his hornes againste the west, agaynste the north, and againste the south: so that no beastes might stande before him, nor defende them from his power: but he did as him lysted, & waxed greatly. ⁵ I toke hede vnto this, & then came there an hegoate from the west ouer the whole earthe, and touched not the grounde. This goate had a maruelous goodly horne betwixte his eyes, ⁶ and came vnto the ramme that had the two hornes (whome I had sene afore by the ryuer syde) and ranne fearcelye vpon him with his might. ⁷ I sawe him drawe nye vnto the ramme, beynge very fearce vpon him, yea he gaue him suche a stroke, that he brake his two hornes: Neyther had the ramme so much strength as to stande before him: but he cast him doune, trodde him vnder his fete: and no man was able to delyuer the ramme out of his power. ⁸ The goate waxed exceadinge greate, & when he was at the strongest, his great horne was broken also. Then grewe there other foure suche lyke in the steade, toward the .iiij. windes of the heauen. ⁹ Yea oute of one of the least of these hornes, there came vp yet another horne, whiche waxed maruelous greate: towarde the southe, towarde the east, and towarde the fayre pleasaunt lande. ¹⁰ It grew vp to the host of heauen, wherof it did cast some doune to the grounde, & of the starres also, & trode them vnder fete. ¹¹ Yea it grewe vp vnto the prince of the host from whom the dayly offeringe was taken, & the place of his Sanctuary casten doune: ¹² & a certayne ceason was geuen vnto it, against the daylye offeringe (because of wickednesse) that it might cast doune the verite to the ground and so to prospere in all thynges, that it went aboute. ¹³ Vpon this I heard one of the sayntes speakinge, whiche saynte sayde vnto one that asked this questyon: How longe shall this vysion of the daylye sacrifice and of the wasting abhominacion endure: that the Sanctuarye and the power shall so be troden vnder fote? ¹⁴ And he answered him: Vnto the eueninge & the mornynge, euen two thousand and thre hundreth dayes: then shall the Sanctuarye be clensed againe.

²⁰ The ramme whyche thou sawest with the two hornes, is the kiuge of the Medes and Perses:

²⁰ Then sayde he: knowest thou wherfore I am came vnto the? now wyl I go again to fyght with the prince of the Perses. As sone as I go forth, lo, the prince of Grekelande shall come.

³ in the fourthe charet were horses of dyuerse colours and stronge.

⁶ That with the blacke horse wente into the land of the northe, & the whyte folowed them, and the spekled horses wente forthe towarde the southe.

¹² Doth one yron hurte another, or one metall that commeth from the North, another?

³³ his legges were of yron, his fete were parte of yron, and parte of earthe.

²⁴ He shalbe myghty and stronge, but not in his owne strength. He shall destroye aboue measure, and all that he goeth aboute shall prospere: he shall slaye the stronge and holye people.

²⁶ After these .lxii. weakes shall Christ be slaine and they shall haue no pleasure in hym. Then shall there come a people with the Prince, and destroye the cytie and the Sanctuarye: & his ende shall come as the water floude. But the desolacion shall continue till the ende of the battell.

³⁶ The kinge shal do what him lyst, he shal exalte and magnifye him selfe agaynste all, that is God. Yea he shall speake maruelous thinges against the God of al goddes, wherin he shall prospere, so longe till the wrathe be fulfilled, for the conclusyon is deuysed alredy. ³⁷ He shal not regarde the God of hys fathers, but his lust shalbe vpon wemen: Yea, he shal not care for any God, for he shall magnifye him selfe aboue al. ³⁸ In his place shall he worshippe the mighty Idols: and the god whome his fathers knewe not, shall he honoure with goulde and syluer, with precious stones and pleasaunt Iewels. ³⁹ This shal he do, sekyng helpe and succour at the myghtye Idols and straunge goddes. Suche as wil receyue him, and take him for God, he shall geue them greate worshippe, & power: yea and make them lordes of the multitude, and geue them the lande with rewardes. ⁴⁰ In the latter tyme shall the kinge of the south stryue with him: & the king of the north in like maner shall come agaynste him wyth charettes, horsemen and wyth a greate nauy of shippes. He shall come into the landes, destroye and go thorowe, ⁴¹ he shall entre also into the fayre pleasaunt lande. Manye cytyes and countreyes shall decaye, excepte Edom, Moab & the best of the children of Ammon, whyche shall escape from hys hande. ⁴² He shal stretch forth his handes vpon the countreyes & the lande of Egipte shall not escape him. ⁴³ For thorowe his goynge in, he shal haue dominion ouer the treasures of siluer and gold & ouer al the precyous Iewels of Egypt, Lybia and Ethiopia. ⁴⁴ Neuerthelesse the tidinges oute of the easte and north shal trouble hym, for the whiche cause he shall go forthe to destroye & curse a greate multitude. ⁴⁵ The tentes of his palace shall be pytch betwyxte the two seas, vpon the hill of the noble Sanctuarye, for he shall come to the ende of it, & then shal no man helpe him.

³ Thus sayth the Lord: for thre & foure wyckednesses of Damascus, I wil not spare her, because they haue throshed Galaad with yron flales:

⁴⁸ yf we let hym scape thus, all men wyll beleue on hym, & the Romaynes shall come and take away our countrey and the people.

³³ his legges were of yron, his fete were parte of yron, and parte of earthe. ³⁴ Tis thou sawest, tyll the tyme that (wyth oute any handes) there was hewen of a stone whiche smote the Image vpon the fete, that were both of yron and earth, and brake them to poulder: ³⁵ then was the yron, the earthe, the copper, the syluer and gold broken altogether in peces: and be came lyke the chaffe of corne, that the wynde bloweth awaye from the somer floores, that they can no more be founde. But the stone that smote the Image, became a greate mountayne, whiche fulfilleth the whole earthe:

²⁴ The ten hornes are ten kinges, that shall aryse out of the kingedom, after whom there shall stande vp another, whiche shalbe greater then the fyrste.

³ And there appered another wonder in heauen, for behold a great Dragon, hauinge .vij. heades, and ten hornes & crounes vpon his heades,

¹ And I sawe a beaste ryse out of the sea, hauyng .vij. heades, and .x. hornes, and vpon his hornes ten crounes, and vpon his heade the name of blasphemye.

¹² And the .x. hornes, which thou seest, are .x. kinges, which haue receiued no kingdom, but shal receiue power as kynges at one hour with the beast.

¹⁰ The sceptre shal not departe from Iuda, nor a ruelar from betwene hys legges, vntyll Sylo come, vnto whome the people shal hark

⁶ Yet haue I sette my kyng vpon my holy hyll of syon. ⁷ As for me, I wyll preache the law, wherof the Lord hath sayde vnto me: Thou arte my sonne, this day haue I begotten the.

⁸ Let all thyne enemyes fele thy hande: let thy right hande fynde out all theym that hate the. ⁹ Thou shalt make them like a fyry ouen in tyme of thy wrath: the Lorde shall destroye them in hys displeasure, and the fyre shal consume them.

¹ Of Salomon. Geue the king thy iudgement, O God, and thy righteousnesse vnto the kynges sonne. ² That he maye gouerne thy people accordynge vnto ryght and defende thy poore. ³ That the mountaynes maye brynge peace, and the litle hylles righteousnesse vnto the people. ⁴ He shall kepe the symple folke by theyr ryght, defende the chyldren of the poore, and punish the wronge doer. ⁵ Thou shalt be feared as longe as the sunne and moone endureth, from one generacyon to another. ⁶ He shall come doune lyke the rayne into a fleise of wolle, & like the droppes that water the earth. ⁷ In hys tyme shall righteousnesse florysh, yea, and aboundaunce of peace, so longe as the moone endureth. ⁸ Hys dominion shalbe from the one sea to the other, & from the floud vnto the worldes ende. ⁹ They that dwell in the wyldernes shall knele before him, & his enemyes shal licke the dust. ¹⁰ The kynges of the sea & of the Iles shall bringe presentes, the kynges of Araby and Saba shall offre gyftes. ¹¹ All kynges shall worshyppe hym, and all Heathen shall do hym seruyce. ¹² For he shall delyuer the poore when he cryeth, and the neady that hath no helpe. ¹³ He shalbe fauorable to the simple & poore, he shall preserue the soules of suche as be in aduersitie. ¹⁴ He shall delyuer their soules from extorcyon and wrong, and deere shall their bloud be in hys sight. ¹⁵ He shall lyue, and vnto hym shalbe geuen of the golde of Arabia: Prayer shalbe made euer vnto hym, and daylye shall he be praysed. ¹⁶ There shalbe an heape of corne in the earth hye vpon the hilles, his frute shal shake like Libanus, and shalbe grene in the cytye, lyke grasse vpon the earth. ¹⁷ Hys name shal endure for euer, his name shall remayne vnder the sunne amonge the posterites, which shalbe blessed thorow him and all the Heathen shall prayse hym. ¹⁸ Blessed be the Lorde God, euen the God of Israell, whiche onely doeth wonderous thinges. ¹⁹ And blessed be the name of his maiesty for euer, and al landes be fulfilled with his glory. Amen, Amen. ²⁰ Here ende the prayers of Dauid the sonne of Iesse.

³ I haue made a couenaunt wyth my chosen, I haue sworne vnto Dauid my seruant. ⁴ Thy sede wyll I stablyshe for euer, and set vp thy trone from one generacyon to another Selah.

¹⁹ Thou spakest sometyme in visions vnto thy saynctes, and saydest: I haue layed helpe vpon one that is mighty, I haue exalted one chosen out of the people. ²⁰ I haue founde Dauid my seruaunt, with my holy oyle haue I anoynted hym. ²¹ My hande shal holde him fast, and myne arme shall strengthen hym. ²² The enemye shall not ouercome hym, & the sonne of wyckednesse shall not hurte hym. ²³ I shall smyte doune hys foes before hys face, and plage them that hate hym. ²⁴ My trueth also & my mercy shalbe wyth hym, and in my name shall hys horne be exalted. ²⁵ I will set hys hande in the sea, & his right hande in the floudes. ²⁶ He shall call me, thou art my father, my God, and the strength of my saluacion. ²⁷ And I will make hym my fyrste borne, hyer then the kynges of the earth. ²⁸ My mercy wyll I kepe for hym for euermore, and my couenaunte shall stande faste with hym. ²⁹ Hys sede wyll I make to endure for euer, yea, and his trone as the dayes of heauen. ³⁰ But if hys chyldren forsake my law, and walke not in my iudgementes. ³¹ If they breake myne ordynaunces, & kepe not my commaundementes. ³² I will vyset their offences wyth the rodde, and their synnes wit scourges. ³³ Neuerthelesse, my louinge kyndnesse wil I not vtterly take from hym, nor suffre my trueth to fayle. ³⁴ My couenaunt wyl I not breake, nor disanulle the thynge that is gone out of my lippes. ³⁵ I haue sworne once by my holinesse, that I will not fayle Dauid. ³⁶ Hys sede shall endure for euer, and hys seate also lyke as the sunne before me.

¹ A Psalme of Dauyd. The Lorde sayde vnto my Lord: Syt thou on my ryght hande, vntyll I make thyne enemies thy fotestole. ² The Lord shal sende the rod of thy power out of Sion; be thou ruler euen in the myddest amonge thyne enemyes. ³ In the daye of thy power shal thy people offer the frewyll offerynges wyth an holye worshyppe, the dewe of thy byrthe is of the wombe of the mornynge. ⁴ The Lorde sware, and wyll not repente: Thou arte a priest for euer after the order of Melchisedec.

¹³ Thy kyngdome is an euerlastyng kyngedome, and thy dominion endureth thorowe out all ages.

⁶ For vnto vs a chylde shalbe borne, and vnto vs a sonne shalbe geuen. Vpon his shoulder shall the kyngedome lye, and he shalbe called with hys owne name. The wonderous geuer of councel, the myghty God, the euerlastinge father, the prynce of peace, ⁷ he shall make no ende to encrease the kyngedome and peace, and shall sytte vpon the seate of Dauid, and in his kyngedome, to set vp the same, to stablyshe it wyth equyte and ryghteousnesse, from thence forth for euermore. This shall the gelousy of the Lorde of hostes brynge to paste.

²⁵ They shal dwel in the lande, that I gaue vnto Iacob my seruaunt, where as youre fathers also haue dwelt. Yea, euen in the same lande shall they, their chyldren, & their childers chyldren dwell for euermore: and my seruaunt Dauid shalbe their euerlastinge prince.

³⁴ Tis thou sawest, tyll the tyme that (wyth oute any handes) there was hewen of a stone whiche smote the Image vpon the fete, that were both of yron and earth, and brake them to poulder:

³⁷ O kynge, thou arte a kynge of kynges: For the God of heauen hath geuen the a kyngdome, ryches, strengthe and maiestye:

²⁶ My commaundement is, in al my dominion & kingedome, that men feare and stande in awe of Daniels God. For he is the liuinge God, whiche abydeth euer: his kingedome shall not fayle, and hys power is euerlasting.

⁷ & wyll geue yssue vnto the lame, and make of the out castes a greate people: and the Lorde hym selfe shalbe their kynge vpon the mount Sion, from this tyme forth for euermore.

² saying: Repent the kingdome of heauen is at hande. ³ This is he of whom it is spoken by the prophete Esaye which sayeth: The voice of a cryer in wildernes prepare the Lordes way and make his pathes, strayt.

¹⁸ And Iesus came and spake vnto them saiynge: all power is geuen vnto me in heauen and in earth.

³² He shalbe greate, and shalbe called the sonne of the hiest. And the Lorde God shal geue to hym the seat of his father Dauid, ³³ and he shall raigne ouer the house of Iacob for euer, & of his kingdome shall be no ende.

³⁴ The people aunswered hym: We haue hearde oute of the lawe, that Christe bydeth euer: and howe sayest thou then that the sonne of man muste be lyfte vp? who is that sonne of man?

²⁴ Then commeth the ende when he hath delyuered vp the kyngedome to God the father, when he hath put doune all rule, authoritie, and power. ²⁵ For he muste reigne tyll he haue put all hys enemies vnder his fete.

²⁰ whiche he wrought in Christe, when he raysed hym from the dead, and set hym on hys ryght hande in heauenly thynges, ²¹ aboue all rule, power, and myghte, and domynyon, and aboue all names that are named, not in thys worlde onely, but also in the worlde to come, ²² and hath put all thynges, vnder hys fete, and hath made hym aboue all thynges the heade of the congregacyon,

²⁷ and he shal rule them with a rodde of yron: and as the vessels of a potter, shall he breake them to sheuers. Euen as I receyued of my father,

¹⁵ & out of hys mouthe went out a sharpe swearde, that with it he should smyte the heathen. And he shal rule them wyth a rod of Iron, & he trode the wine fat of the fiercenes & wrath of almightye God. ¹⁶ And hath on hys vesture & on hys thighe a name wrytten: king of kinges, & Lord of Lordes, ¹⁷ And I sawe an angel stand in the sunne & he cryed wyth a loud voyce, saiyng to al the foules that flye by the myndes of heauen come & gather youre selues together vnto the supper of the great God, ¹⁸ that ye may eate the flesh of kinges, & of hye captaynes, & the fleshe of myghty men, and the flesh of horsses, & of them that sit on them, & the flesh of all free men & bonde men, & of small & great. ¹⁹ And I sawe the beast and the kynges of the earth, & theyr warriers gathered together to make battayl against him that sat on the horse & agaynst hys souldyers. ²⁰ And the beast was taken, & with hym that false prophete that wrought miracles before him with which he deceyued them that receiued the beastes marke, & them that worshipped his Image These both were cast into a ponde of fyre burnyng with brimstone:

²⁸ This is that whiche I sayde vnto Pharao, that god doth shewe Pharao what he is about to do.

³² And as concernynge that the dreame was doubled vnto Pharao the seconde tyme, it betokeneth that the thynges is certanly prepared of God, and that God wyll shortlye brynge it to passe.

¹⁷ For the Lord your God, he is god of Goddes, and Lorde of Lordes, a greate God, a myghty and a terrible whych regardeth no mans person, nor taketh giftes:

²² Wherfore thou arte great O Lorde God and there is none lyke the, neyther is there any God saue thou accordyng to al that we haue hearde wyth oure eares.

²⁵ For greate is the Lorde and to be praysed exceadyngly: & terrible is he aboue al Gods.

¹⁴ and loked, and gat me vp, and sayde vnto the chefe men and rulers, & to the other people: be not ye afraied of them thinke vpon the greate Lord, which ought to be feared and fyghte for youre brethren, sonnes, doughters, wyues, and houses.

³² Nowe oure God, thou great God, mightye and terryble, that thou kepest couenaunte and mercy, regarde not a lytle of the trauaile that hath happened vnto vs, and our kynges prynces, priestes, prophetes, fathers and all thy people, sence the tyme of the kynges of Assur vnto thys daye.

²⁶ Beholde, so great is God, that he passeth oure knowledge, nether are we able to come to the experience of hys yeares.

¹ A songe of a Psalme of the chyldren of Corah. Greate is the Lorde & hyely too be praysed, in the cytye of oure God, euen vpon hys holy hyl.

⁴ For the Lord is great, and can not worthely be praysed: he is more to be feared then all goddes.

⁵ For I know that the Lorde is greate, and that our Lorde is aboue all goddes.

³ Great is the Lord, & maruelous worthy to be praysed, there is no ende of his greatenesse.

¹⁸ Thou shewest mercy vpon thousandes, thou recompencest the wickednes of the fathers, into the bosume of the children, that come after them. ¹⁹ Thou art the greate and myghtie God, whose name is the Lorde of Hostes, greate in counsel, and infinite in thought. Thine eyes loke vpon all the wayes of mens chyldren, to rewarde euery one after his waye, and according to the frutes of his inuencyons.

⁴⁴ In the dayes of these kinges shall the God of heauen set vp an euerlastynge kyngdome whiche shall not peryshe, and hys kyngdome shall not be geuen ouer to another people: yea the same shal breake and destroy al these kingdomes, but it shall endure foreuer.

¹¹ For from the rysynge vp of the sunne vnto the goynge doune of the same, my name is greate amonge the Gentyles: yea, in euery place shall there sacryfice be done, & a cleane meatoffering offered vp vnto my name: for my name is great among the heathen, sayeth the Lorde of hostes.

²⁴ Iesus answered, and sayed vnto them: I also wil axe of you a certayne questyon, whiche yf ye assoyle me, I in lyke wyse wyll tell you by what authoritie I do these thynges.

³⁵ Heauen & earth shal perishe, but my wordes shal abide.

²⁰ When he was demaunded of the Pharises when the kyngdom of God shoulde come: he aunswered them, and sayd: The kingdome of God cometh not with waytyng for.

⁴ For the weapens of oure warre are not carnal thynges, but thynges myghtye in God to caste doune stronge holdes, ⁵ wherewith we ouerthrowe Imaginations and euerye hye thynge that exalteth it selfe agaynste the knoweledge of God, and brynge into captiuite all vnderstandynge to the obedience of Christe,

¹⁹ Write therfore the thynges, whiche thou hast sene, & the thynges whiche are, & the thynges which shalbe fulfylled here after:

¹ After thys I loked, and beholde a dore was open in heauen, and the fyrst voyce which I hearde, was as it were of a trompete, talkynge wyth me which sayd: come vp hether, and I wyll shewe the thynges, whyche must be fulfylled herafter.

¹⁷ And I sawe an angel stand in the sunne & he cryed wyth a loud voyce, saiyng to al the foules that flye by the myndes of heauen come & gather youre selues together vnto the supper of the great God,

³¹ And I wyl make your cityes desolate, and brynge your sanctuaries vnto nought, and wyll not smel the sauoures of your swete odoures.

¹⁰ that they maye offre swete sauoures vnto the God of heauen, and praye for the kinges lyfe & for his children.

¹⁶ and fel doune on his face at hys fete, & gaue him thankes. And the same was a Samaritane.

²⁵ And as it chaunsed Peter to come in, Cornelius met him, and fel doune at his fete, and worshipped him.

¹³ Then Iupiters prieste whiche dwelte before theyr citie, brought oxen and garlandes to the churche porche, and woulde haue done sacrifice with the people.

⁶ Howe be it they wayted when he should haue swolne or fallen doune dead sodenly. But after they had loked a greate whyle, and sawe no harme come come to him, they chaunged their mindes, and said that he was a God.

¹⁶ And the .xxiiij. elders, whyche sit before God on their seates, fell vpon theyr faces, and worshipped God,

¹⁰ And I fell at his feete, to worshippe him. And he sayed vnto me, se thou do it not. For I am thy felowe seruaunt, & one of thy brethren, & of them that haue the testimony of Iesus. Worshippe God. For the testimony of Iesus is the spirit of prophesye.

⁸ I am Iohn which saw these thynges and harde them. And when I had hearde and sene, I fell doune to worshyppe before the fete of the aungell whiche shewed me these thynges.

²² The myghtye God Iehouah he knoweth, and Israel shall knowe yf it be to rebelle or transgresse agaynste the Lorde, then the Lorde saue vs not thys daye.

¹⁹ He ledeth awaye the Preastes in to captyuyte, and turneth the myghtye vpsyde downe.

¹⁰ Be wyse nowe therfore, O ye Kinges, be warned, ye that are iudges of the earthe. ¹¹ Serue the Lorde wyth feare, and reioyse before hym wyth reuerence.

¹¹ All kynges shall worshyppe hym, and all Heathen shall do hym seruyce.

¹ A Psalme of Asaph. God standeth in the congregacion of the Goddes, and is a iudge amonge the iudges.

² O geue thankes vnto the God of all goddes, for his mercy endureth for euer.

¹⁹ Then was the mysterye shewed vnto Daniel in a vysyon by nyght And Daniel praysed the god of heauen.

⁸ tyll at the laste, there came one Daniel (otherwyse called Balthazar, accordynge to the name of my God) whiche hath the sprete of the holy Goddes in hym: to whom I tolde the dreame, saying: ⁹ O Balthasar, thou prince of southsayers: For so muche as I knowe, that thou haste the spryte of the holy Goddes, and no secrete is hyd from the: tell me therfore, what the vysyon of my dreame (that I haue sene) maye sygnifye.

³⁶ The kinge shal do what him lyst, he shal exalte and magnifye him selfe agaynste all, that is God. Yea he shall speake maruelous thinges against the God of al goddes, wherin he shall prospere, so longe till the wrathe be fulfilled, for the conclusyon is deuysed alredy.

¹⁵ whiche appearynge (when the tyme is come) he shal shew that is blessed and myghtye onelye, kynge of kynges, & Lord of Lordes,

³⁹ wherfore Pharao sayde vnto Ioseph: for as moch as God hath shewed the al this, there is no man of vnderstandyng or of wysdome lyke vnto the. ⁴⁰ Thou therfore shalt be ouer my house, and acordyng to thy worde shall al my people obeye: only in the kynges seate wyll I be aboue the. ⁴¹ And he sayde vnto Ioseph: beholde, I haue set the ouer all the lande of Egypte. ⁴² And he toke of hys rynge from hys fyngre, and put it vpon Iosephs fyngre, and arayed him in rayment of bysse, & put a golden cheyne about hys neck ⁴³ & set him vpon the best charet that he had saue one. And they cryed before hym Abrech, & that Pharao had made him ruelar ouer al the land of Egypte.

¹⁶ And they came to Balam and tolde hym. Thus sayeth Balac the sonne of Ziphor: oh, let nothynge let the to come vnto me, ¹⁷ for I wyll greately promote the vnto greate honour. and wyl do whatsoeuer thou sayeste vnto me, come therefore I praye the curse me thys peole.

²⁵ And euery man of Israel sayde: Se ye this man that is come forthe, euen to reuile Israel he is come. And to hym that beateth hym wyll the Kynge geue great ryches, and wyl geue hym hys daughter therto, ye and make hys fathers house fre in Israel.

² And there was a man in Maon, whose catel was in Carmell, and the man was excedynge myghtye, and had thre thousand shepe and a thousande gootes. And he was sheringe his shepe in Carmel.

³² which Berselai was a very aged man, euen foure skore yeares olde, and had prouyded the kynge of sustenaunce whyle he laye at Mahanaim: for he was a man of verye great substaunce.

¹ Naaman capitaine of the hoste to the kynge of Siria, was greate wyth his mayster and wel taken: for thorow him the Lorde saued Siria. And he was an actiue man & yet a leper.

³ Hys substaunce was .vij.M. shepe .iij.M. camels .v.C. youck of oxen .v.C. she asses, & a very greate housholde: so that he was one of the moste principall men amonge all them of the east countre.

⁵ Therfore wil I go vnto their heades and rulers, and talke with them: yf they knowe the waie of the lord and the iudgementes of oure God. But these (in like maner) haue broken the yocke, and burste the bandes in sonder.

⁶ But yf ye tell me the dreame & the meanynge therof, ye shall haue of me gyftes, rewardes & greate honoure: onely, shew me the dreame and the sygnifycacyon of it.

¹ Nabuchodonosor the kynge caused a golden Image to be made whiche was .lx. cubytes hye, & sixe cubytes thycke. This he made to be set vp in the feld of Dura in the lande of Babylon,

³⁰ So the kynge promoted Sidrach, Misach, and Abednago, in the land of Babylon.

¹ It pleased Darius to set ouer hys kingedome an .C. and .xx. Lordes, whiche shulde be in all hys kyngdome aboute. ² Aboue these he set thre princes (of whom Daniel was one) that the Lordes myghte geue accomptes vnto them, and the Kyng to be vndiseased.

¹⁹ And when the virgins were gathered together the seconde tyme, Mardocheus sat in the kinges gate.

²¹ At the same tyme whyle Mardocheus sat in the kynges gate, two of the kinges chamberlaynes Bagathan and Thares whiche kepte the dore, were wroth, & sought to laye their handes on the kynge Ahasuerus:

² And all the kinges seruauntes that were in the gate, bowed their knees, & dyd reuerence vnto Haman: for the kinge had so commaunded. But Mardocheus bowed not the knee, and worshipped him not.

¹² When ryghtuous men are in prosperite, then doth honoure floryshe: but when the vngodly come vp, the state of men chaungeth.

³ Then al the Princes of the king of Babilon came in, and sat them doune vnder the porte: Neregel, Sarezer, Samegarnabo, Sarsachim, Rabsaris, Neregel, Sarezer, Rabmah, with all the other princes of the king of Babilon.

¹⁷ and then came he home agayne, & shewed the thynge vnto Ananias, Misael & Asarias hys companyons:

¹² Now are there certayne Iewes, whome thou haste set ouer the offyces of the lande of Babylon, namely, Sydrach, Mysach & Abednago. These men (O kynge) regarde not thy commaundement, yea they wyll not serue thy Goddes, nor bowe them selues to the golden Image, that thou haste set vp. ¹³ Then Nabuchodonosor in a cruell wrathe, and displeasur, commaunded that Sidrach, Misach and Abednago shulde be broughte vnto hym. So these men were broughte before the kynge. ¹⁴ Then Nabuchodonosor spake vnto them, and sayde: what? O Sidrach Misach and Abednago, wyll not ye serue my Goddes, nor bowe youre selues to the golden Image, that I haue set vp? ¹⁵ well, be readye here after, when ye heare the noyse of the trompettes blowe wyth the harpes, shawmes, psalteryes, symphonyes and all the other melodyes: that ye fall doune, and worshyppe the Image whiche I haue made. But yf ye worshyppe it not, ye shall be caste immedyatly into an hote burnynge ouen. Let se, what God is there, that maye delyuer you oute of my handes? ¹⁶ Sidrach, Misach and Abednago aunswered the kynge, and sayde: O Nabuchodonosor, we oughte not to consente vnto the in this matter, for why: ¹⁷ oure GOD whome we serue, is able to kepe vs from the hote burnynge ouen (O kynge) and can right well delyuer vs oute of thy handes. ¹⁸ And thoughe he wyll not, yet shalte thou knowe (O kynge) that we wil not serue thy Goddes, nor do reuerence to the Image, whiche thou haste set vp. ¹⁹ Then was Nabuchodonosor full of indignacyon, so that the countenaunce of hys face chaunged vpon Sidrach, Misach, and Abednago. Therfor he charged and commaunded, that the ouen shuld be made seuen tymes hoter, then it was wonte to be, ²⁰ and spake vnto the strongeste worthyes that were in hys hoste, for to bynde Sidrach, Misach and Abednago, & to cast them into the hote burnynge ouen. ²¹ So these men were bounde in theyr cotes hosen, shues with theyr other garmentes, and caste into the hote burnynge ouen: ²² for the kynges commaundemente was so strate, and the ouen was exceadynge hote. As for the men that put in Sydrach, Mysach & Abednago, the flamme of the fyre destroyed them. ²³ And these thre men Sidrach, Misah & Abednago fell doune in the hote burnynge ouen, beinge fast bound. ²⁴ Then Nabuchodonosor the kyng marueyled, & stode vp in al haste: he spake vnto hys councell, and sayde: dyd not ye caste these thre men bounde into the fyre? They aunswered, and sayde vnto the kynge: Yea O kynge. ²⁵ He aunswered and sayde: lo, for all that, yet do I se foure men goynge lowse in the myddeste of the fyre, and nothynge corrupte: and the fourthe is lyke an angell to loke vpon. ²⁶ Vpon thys wente Nabuchodonosor vnto the mouth of the hote burnynge ouen: he spake also, and sayde: O Sydrach, Mysach & Abednago, ye seruauntes of the hye God: go forthe, & come hyther. And so Sydrach, Mysach, and Abednago wente oute of the fyre. ²⁷ Then the dukes lordes and nobles, and the kynges councell came together to se these men, vpon whom the fyre had no maner of power in theyr bodyes: In so much that the very hearre of theyr head was not burnte, & theyr clothes vnchaunged: Yea there was no smel of fyre felt vpon them. ²⁸ Then spake Nabuchodonosor, and sayde: Blessed be the God of Sidrach, Misach and Abednago, whiche hath sente his aungel, & defended hys seruauntes, that put their trust in him: that haue altered the kynges commaundement: and yeoparde theyr bodyes thervpon, rather then they wolde serue or worshyp any other God, excepte theyr owne God onelye. ²⁹ Therfore I wyll, and commaund, that al people, kynredes and tunges, whiche speake any blasphemye agaynst the God of Sidrach, Misach and Abednago, shall dye, and theyr houses shalbe prysed: Because there is no God that maye saue, as thys. ³⁰ So the kynge promoted Sidrach, Misach, and Abednago, in the land of Babylon.

¹⁵ Hate the euil, and loue the good: set vp right agayne in the porte: & (no doute) the Lorde God of hostes shal be mercyful vnto the remnaunt of Ioseph,
