¹ It pleased Darius to set ouer hys kingedome an .C. and .xx. Lordes, whiche shulde be in all hys kyngdome aboute. ² Aboue these he set thre princes (of whom Daniel was one) that the Lordes myghte geue accomptes vnto them, and the Kyng to be vndiseased. ³ But Daniel exceaded al these Princes and Lordes, for the sprete of God was plenteous in him: so that the Kynge was mynded to set hym ouer the whole realme. ⁴ Wherfore the Prynces and Lordes soughte, to pycke oute in Danyel some quarell agaynst the kyngdom: yet coulde they fynde none occasyon nor faute vpon hym. For why? he was so faythful, that there was no blame nor dyshonestye founde in hym. ⁵ Then sayde these men: we wil get no quarell agaynste thys Daniel, excepte it be in the lawe of hys God. ⁶ Vpon this, wente the princes and Lordes together vnto the kynge, and sayde thus vnto him: king Darius God saue thy lyfe for euer. ⁷ All the greate estates of the realme: as the princes, Dukes, Senatours, and iudges, are determed to put oute a commaundement of the kinge, and to make a sure statute: namely, that who so desireth any peticyon, ether of any god, or man (within this .xxx. dayes) excepte it be onlye of the, O kinge: the same person may be cast into the lions denne. ⁸ Wherfore, O kynge, confirme thou this statute, and make a wryttynge, that the thynge which the Medes and Perses haue ordeyned be not altered nor broken. ⁹ So Darius made the writtinge, and confirmed it. ¹⁰ Now when Daniel vnderstode that the writtinge was made, he wente into hys house: and the windowes of hys hall toward Ierusalem stode open. There kneled he doune vpon his knees, thre tymes a daye: there he made his peticion, and praysed his God, like as hys maner was to do afore tyme. ¹¹ Then these men made searche, and founde Daniel makinge his petycyon and prayinge vnto his God. ¹² So they came to the kynge, & spake before him concerninge his commaundement sayinge: O kinge, hast thou not subscribed the statute, that within .xxx. daies who so requireth hys petycyon of any God or man but onely of thy selfe, O kinge: he shalbe cast into the denne of the lyons? The kinge answered, and sayd: ye, it is true. It must be as a lawe of the Medes and Perses, that maye not be broken. ¹³ Then answered they, and sayde vnto the kynge: Daniel one of the presoners of Iuda, O kynge, regardeth neyther the, nor thy statute, that thou hast made, but maketh his peticion thre tymes a day. ¹⁴ When the king heard these wordes, he was sore greued, and would haue excused Daniel, to deliuer him, and put of the matter, vnto the Sunne wente doune to the intent that he myght saue hym. ¹⁵ These men perceyuinge the kinges mind sayde vnto him: knowe thys (O Kinge) that the lawe of the Medes and Perses is, that the commaundement & statute, whiche the kinge maketh, may not be altered. ¹⁶ Then the kynge had them bringe Daniel, and they caste hym into the Lyons denne. The kynge also spake vnto Daniel, & sayde: thy God, whom thou alwaye seruest, euen he shall defende the. ¹⁷ And there was broughte a stone, & layed vpon the hole of the denne: this the kinge sealed with his owne ringe, & wyth the signet of his prynces: that the kinges commaundemente concerninge Daniel, shoulde not be broken. ¹⁸ So the kinge wente into his palace, & kepte him sober al night, so that there was no table spred before him, neyther coulde he take any slepe. ¹⁹ But by tymes in the morninge at the breake of the day, the kinge arose, and wente in all haste vnto the denne of the Lyons. ²⁰ Now as he came nye vnto the denne, he cried with a pyteous voyce vnto Daniell: yea the Kinge spake, and sayde vnto Daniel: O Daniel, thou seruaunt of the lyuynge God, is not thy God (whom thou alwaye seruest) able to deliuer the from the Lyons? ²¹ Daniel sayde vnto the Kinge: O King, God saue thy lyfe for euer. ²² My God hath sent his aungell whiche hath shut the lyons mouthes, so that they might not hurte me. For why? myne vngiltinesse is founde oute before him. And as for the, O Kinge, I neuer offended the. ²³ Then was the kinge exceadinge glad, and commaunded to take Daniel out of the denne. So Daniel was broughte oute of the denne, and no maner of hurte was found vpon him. For he put his trust in his God. ²⁴ And as for those men which had accused Daniel, the king commaunded to bringe them, and to cast them in the lyons denne: them, their children and their wiues. So the Lyons had the maystry of them, and brake all their bones a sonder, or euer they came at the grounde. ²⁵ After thys, wrote the Kinge Darius vnto all people kinreddes, and tunges, that dwelt in al landes: peace be multiplyed wt you. ²⁶ My commaundement is, in al my dominion & kingedome, that men feare and stande in awe of Daniels God. For he is the liuinge God, whiche abydeth euer: his kingedome shall not fayle, and hys power is euerlasting. ²⁷ It is he that delyuereth and saueth: he doeth wonders & maruelous worckes, in heauen and in earth: he hath preserued Daniel from the power of the Lyons. ²⁸ This Daniell prospered in the raigne of Darius and Cirus of Persia.

²¹ Moreouer seke oute amonge all the people, men of actiuitie which feare God and men that are true and hate coueteousnes: & make them heades ouer the people, captaines ouer thousandes, ouer hundredes, ouer fifty & ouer ten. ²² And let them iudge the people at all seasons: If there be any great matter let theym bringe that vnto the, & let them iudge al smal causes them selfes, & ease thy selfe & let them bere with the.

¹ In the tyme of Ahasuerus which raygned from Iudia vnto Ethiophia ouer an hundred & seuen and twentye landes,

³¹ and Darius out of Medea toke in the kyngedome, beyng .lxij. yeare of age.

¹⁴ other vnto rulars, as vnto them that are sent of hym, for the punyshemente of euyll doars: but for the laude of them that do wel.

³⁰ Wherfore the Lorde God of Israel sayth: I sayde that thyne house and the house of thy father shulde haue walked before me for euer. But now the Lorde sayth: that be farre from me: for them that worshyppe me, I wyll worshyp, & they that despyse me, shalbe despised.

²² Take hede now that ye be not neglygent herin, lest the kinge haue harme there thorow.

⁴ for we are sold I & my people bothe to be destroyed, to be slayne & to perish: & would god we were solde to be bondmen & bondwemen, then would I hold my tonge, so should not the enemye be so hye to the kynges harme.

¹⁶ Vpon her righte hande is longe lyfe, and vppon her lefte hande is ryches and honour.

⁶ He is lame of his fete yea dronken is he in vanite, that committeth any thing to a fole.

⁴⁸ So the kynge made Daniel a greate man, and gaue hym many & greate gyftes. He made hym ruler of all the countrees of Babylon, and Lorde of all the nobles, that were at Babylon. ⁴⁹ Now Daniel intreated the kynge so: Sidrach, Misach and Abednago, so that he made them rulers ouer all the offyces in the lande of Babylon: But Danyel hymselfe remayned styll in the courte by the kynge.

¹⁶ Then heard I saye, that thou canste expounde darcke thynges, and declare harde doutes. Well then, yf thou canst reade thys wrytynge, and shewe me the meanynge therof: thou shalte be clothed with purple, haue a cheyne of golde aboute thy necke, and rule the thyrde parte of my kyngdome.

²⁹ Then commaunded Balthazar, to clothe Daniel wyth purple, to hange a cheyne of golde aboute hys necke, and to make a proclamacyon concerning him: that he shulde be the ruler of the thyrde parte of hys kyngedome.

²³ Therefore is the kyngedom of heauen lykened vnto a certayne kyng, whithe woulde take a countes of hys seruauntes.

² And he called hym, and sayde vnto hym: Howe is it, that I heare thys of the? Geue a comptes of thy stewardshyppe. For thou mayest be no longer stewarde.

¹³ And he called hys ten seruauntes, & deliuered them ten pounde saiynge vnto them? by and sell tyll I come. ¹⁴ But hys citisens hated hym, and sente messengers after hym, saiynge: we will not haue thys man to reygne ouer vs. ¹⁵ And it came to passe, when he was come agayne, and had receyued hys kyngdome, he commaunded these seruauntes, to be called to him (to whom he gaue hys money) to wyt what euery man had done. ¹⁶ Then came the fyrste saiynge: Lorde, thy pounde hath encreased ten pounde. ¹⁷ And he sayde vnto hym. Well good seruaunte, because thou waste faythful in a very lytell thynge, take thou authoritye ouer ten cities. ¹⁸ And the other came, saying: Lorde thy pounde hath encreased fyue pound. ¹⁹ And to the same he sayde, and be thou also ruler ouer .v. cities. ²⁰ And the .iij. came & sayde: Lorde, behold here thy pounde, whiche I haue kept in a napkyn, ²¹ for I feared the, because thou art a strayt man, thou takest vp that thou laydest not doune, and reapest that thou dyddest not sowe. ²² And he sayde to him: Of thyne owne mouthe iudge I the thou euil seruaunt. Knowest thou that I am a strayte man takyng vp that I layde not doune, and reapyng that I did not sowe? ²³ Wherfore then gauest not thou my money into the banke, that at my commynge I mighte haue requyred myne owne with vauntage. ²⁴ And he sayed to them that stode by: take from hym that pounde, and geue it hym that hath ten pounde. ²⁵ And they sayde vnto him: Lorde, he hath ten pounde. ²⁶ I saye vnto you, that vnto all them that haue, it shalbe geuen: and from hym that hath not, euen that he hath shalbe taken from hym. ²⁷ Moreouer those myne enemyes which woulde not that I should raigne ouer them, brynge hyther, and slea them before me.

² Furthermore it is requyred of the dysposers, that they be found faithfull.

³⁸ Than sayde Pharao vnto hys seruauntes: where shal we fynde soch a man as thys is, that hath the sprete of GOD in hym? ³⁹ wherfore Pharao sayde vnto Ioseph: for as moch as God hath shewed the al this, there is no man of vnderstandyng or of wysdome lyke vnto the. ⁴⁰ Thou therfore shalt be ouer my house, and acordyng to thy worde shall al my people obeye: only in the kynges seate wyll I be aboue the. ⁴¹ And he sayde vnto Ioseph: beholde, I haue set the ouer all the lande of Egypte.

² And I commaunded my brother Hanani, & Hananiah the ruler of the palace at Ierusalem: for he was a faithfull man, and feared God more then dyd many other)

³ For Mardocheus the Iewe was the second next vnto the kinge Ahasuerus, and greate amonge the Iewes, and accepted amonge the multitude of hys brethren, as one that seketh the welth of his people and speaketh the beste for all hys seade.

³ Let mercy & faythfulnes neuer go from the: bynde them about thy necke, & write them in the tables of thyne hert. ⁴ So shalt thou fynde fauour & good vnderstanding in the sight of God & men.

²⁷ He is wyse and discrete, that tempereth his wordes: and he is a man of vnderstandinge, that maketh much of his spirite.

²⁹ Seyst thou nat, that they whyche be diligent in ther busines stand before kinges and not among the simple people?

¹³ and I saw that wysdome excelleth folishnesse, as farre as lyght doth darcknesse.

¹² because that suche an aboundaunt spryte knowledge & wysdome (to expound dreames, to open secretes, and to declare harde dowtes) was founde in hym: yea euen in Daniel whom the kynge named Balthazar. Let thys same Daniel be sente for, and he shall tell, what it meaneth.

¹⁴ I haue heard speake of the, that thou haste the spryte of the holye Goddes, experience and vnderstandyng, and that there hath bene greate wysdome founde in the.

²³ For as sone as thou begannest to make thy prayer, it was so diuised, and therfore am I come to shewe the. And why? For thou arte a man greatly beloued. Wherfore, pondre the matter well, that thou mayest learne, to vnderstande the vision.

¹⁸ When they were brought to Iosephs house, they were afrayde and sayde: because of the money that came in oure sackes mouthes at the fyrst tyme, are we brought, to pyke a quarell with vs and to laye some thynge to oure charge to bryng vs in bondage and our asses also.

⁴ But hys father and mother wist not that it was the Lordes doing, and that he sought an occasyon of the Phylystines, which at that tyme raigned ouer Israel.

¹⁴ And Dauid was wyse in al that he toke in hande, and the Lorde was wyth hym.

⁴ And Ionathas spake the best of Dauid vnto Saul hys father and sayde vnto hym: lette not the kyng synne agaynst hys seruaunt Dauid, for he hath not synned agaynst the, and hys workes are to the warde very good. ⁵ For he dyd put hys lyfe in hys hande and slue the Philistine, and the Lorde gaue a great vyctorye to all Israell. And thou sawest it, & thou reioysedest, wherfore then shouldest thou sinne agaynst innocent bloude, and slee Dauid for nought?

¹⁴ And Ahymelech answered the kynge & sayde: who is so faythfull amonge all thy seruauntes as Dauid & therto the kinges sonne in lawe, and goeth at thy bidding, and is had in honoure in thyne house?

¹² The vngodly layeth wayte for the iust, & gnassheth vpon him with his tethe. ¹³ But the Lord laugheth him to scorne, for he seyth that his daye is commyng.

³² The vngodly seyth the righteous, & goeth aboute to slaye hym. ³³ But the Lorde will not leaue him in hys handes, nor condempne him when he is iudged.

²⁷ The ryghtuous abhorreth the vngodlye: but as for those that be in the ryght way, the wicked hate them.

⁴ Agayn, I sawe that all trauayle and diligence of labour was hated of euery man. This is also a vayn thinge, and a vexacion of mynde.

¹⁸ Then sayde they: come, let vs ymagyn smothynge agaynst this Ieremy. Yee thys dyd euen the prestes, to whom the lawe was commytted: the Senatours, that were the wysest, and the prophetes, whiche wanted not the worde of God. Come (sayde they) lett vs cut out hys tunge, & let vs not regarde his wordes.

²³ Yet Lorde, thou knowest all their councell, that they haue deuysed, to slaye me. And therfore forgeue them not their wyckednes, and let not their synne be put out of thy syght: but lett them be iudged before the as the gyltye: Thys shalt thou do vnto them in the tyme of thy indygnacyon.

¹⁰ For why, I herde so many derisyons and blasphemies, yee euen of myne owne companions, and of soch as were conuersaunte with me: whiche wente aboute, to make me afrayed, sayinge, vpon hym, let vs go vpon him to feare hym and make hym holde his tonge: that we maye ouer come hym, and be auenged of hym.

⁸ Now were there certayne men of the Caldees, that wente euen then, and accused the Iewes,

⁴ and helde a counsell, howe they myghte take Iesus by sutteltie, and kyl hym.

¹⁸ For he knewe well that for enuye they had delyuered hym.

²⁰ And they watched hym, and sent forthe spyes whiche shoulde fayne them selues perfect, to take him in his wordes, and to delyuer him vnto the power and authoritie of the debitie.

² and the hye pryestes and scribes sought how to kyl hym, but they feared the people.

¹⁴ and sayed vnto them. Ye haue brought this man vnto me, as one that peruerted the people. And beholde I haue examined him before you, & haue founde no faute in this man of those thinges wherof ye accuse him: ¹⁵ no nor yet Herode. For I sent you to him, and lo nothinge worthy of death is done of him.

⁴ Pylate went forth agayne, & sayd vnto them: behold I bryng hym forth to you, that ye maye knowe, that I fynde no faute in hym.

¹² Neuerthelesse what I do, that wyll I do, to cut awaye occasyon from them which desyre occasyon, that they myght be founde lyke vnto vs in that wherein they reioyce.

¹⁵ that ye maye be fauteles & pure, the sonnes of God wythout rebuke, in the middes of a croked and a peruerse nacyon, amonge whiche se that ye shine as lightes in the worlde,

¹⁴ I wyll therfore that the yonger women marye and beare children, and guyde the house and geue none occasyon to the aduersarye to speake euyll.

⁸ and wyth the wholesom worde, which cannot be rebuked, that he which wythstandeth, maye be ashamed, hauyng nothynge in you that he maye disprayse.

¹² and se that ye haue honest conuersacyon amonge the Gentyls, that they whiche backbyte you as euyll doars, maye se youre good workes and prayse God in the daye of visitacyon.

¹⁶ hauinge a good conscience, that when they backbyte you as euyl doers, they maye be ashamed, for as muche as they haue falsely accused your good conuersation in Christ.

¹⁴ If ye be railed vpon for the name of Christ, happie are ye. For the spyryte of glorye, and the spyryte of Gad resteth vpon you. On theyr parte he is euyll spoken of, but on your parte he is glorified. ¹⁵ Se that none of you suffer as a murtherer or as a thefe, or an euil doar, or as a busibody in other mens matters. ¹⁶ Yf any man suffer as a Christen man, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorifie God on this behalfe.

¹⁷ and sayde to Dauid: thou art ryghteouser then I, for thou hast rewarde me wyth good, and I haue rewarded the with euyl.

⁸ And Haman sayde vnto kyng Ahasuerus: There is a people scatered abroade & dispersed amonge all people in all the landes of thyne empire, & their lawe is contrary vnto all people, & they do not after the kynges lawes, nether is it the kinges profet to suffre them after this maner.

⁶ When the hye Priestes and ministers saw him, they cryed, saiyng: Crucifye him, crucifye him. Pylate sayde vnto them: Take ye hym, and crucifye hym; for I finde no cause in him. ⁷ The Iewes aunswered hym: we haue a lawe, and by our lawe he oughte to dye: because he made hym selfe the sonne of God.

¹³ Neyther can they proue the thynges wherof they accuse me. ¹⁴ But thys I confesse vnto the, that after that waye (which they call heresye) so worshyppe I the God of my fathers, beleuynge al thynges which are written in the lawe and the Prophetes, ¹⁵ and haue hope towardes God that the same resurreccyon of the dead (which they them selues loke for also) shall be both of iuste and vniuste. ¹⁶ And therfore studye I to haue a cleare conscience towarde God, and towarde man also.

²⁰ or els let these same here saye, yf they haue founde anye euyll doynge in me, whyle I stand here in the councell: ²¹ excepte it be for thys one voyce that I cryed standynge amonge them, of the resurreccyon from death, am I iudged of you thys daye.

³ & sayde vnto the kynge: God saue the kynges lyfe for euer, shulde I not loke sadly? the cytye of my fathers buryall lyeth waste & the gates thereof are consumed with fyre.

⁶ They holde alltogether, & kepe them selues close they marcke my steppes, how they may catch my soule.

³ How longe wyll ye ymagyn myschiefe agaynste euerye man? ye shalbe slayne all the sorte of you: yea as a tottrynge wall shall ye be, and lyke a broken hedge.

² Hide me from the gathering together of the frowarde, from the heape of wycked doers. ³ Which whet their tonges lyke a sweard, and shote wyth their veneymous words like as with arowes. ⁴ That they maye preuely hurt the innocent sodenly to hyt him wythout any feare. ⁵ They haue deuysed myschefe, and communed amonge them selues, how they may laye snares: tush (saye they) who shall se them? ⁶ They ymagyn wyckednes, and kepe it secrete amonge them selues, euerye man in the depe of his herte.

⁴ Vpon thys the Caldees aunswered the kynge in the Syrians speach: O king, God saue thy lyfe for euer. Shew thy seruauntes the dreame, and we shal shewe the, what it meaneth.

⁹ and sayde vnto the kynge Nabuchodonosor: O kyng, God saue thy lyfe for euer.

¹⁰ So by reason of thys matter, that had happened to the kyng and his lordes, the quene wente vp her selfe into the banckethouse, and spake vnto the kynge, sayinge: O kyng, God saue thy lyfe for euer: Let not the thoughtes trouble the, and let not thy countenaunce be chaunged.

¹¹ Then these men made searche, and founde Daniel makinge his petycyon and prayinge vnto his God.

²¹ Daniel sayde vnto the Kinge: O King, God saue thy lyfe for euer.

²³ Then sayed the debitie: what euyll hath he done? And they cried the more sayinge: let hym be crucifyed. ²⁴ When Pilate sawe that he preuayled nothyng but the more busynes was made, he toke water and washed his handes before the people sayinge I am innocent of the bloude of this iust persone, or on your perille be it. ²⁵ Then aunswered al the people & sayed, his bloude be on vs and on oure children.

²³ And they cryed with loude voice, & required that he might be crucyfyed. And the voice of them and of the hie priestes preuailed. ²⁴ And Pilate gaue sentence that it should be as they required, ²⁵ and let louse vnto them him that for insurreccion and morther, was cast into prison whom they desyreth, and deliuered Iesus to do with him what they woulde.

²² They gaue audience vnto thys worde, and then lyft vp theyr voyces, and sayde: awaye with suche a felowe from the earthe, it is pytye that he shoulde lyue. ²³ And as they cryed, and caste of theyr clothes, and thrue duste into the ayer,

² When Paule was called forth. Tartullus began to accuse hym, saiynge: Seynge that we lyue in a great quietnes by the meanes of the: & that manye good thynges are done vnto thys nacyon throughe thy prouidence:

² The kynges of the earth stande vp, and the rulers are come to gether, agaynste the Lorde and agaynste hys anoynted.

⁹ He lyeth waytynge secretlye, as ti were a lyon in hys denne. He lurketh that he maye rauyshe the pore, yea, to rauysh the poore, when he hath gotten him into hys net.

³ For lo, they lye wayting for my soule: the mighty men are gathered together agaynste me, withoute any offence or faulte of me, O Lorde.

⁴ Their deuyce is only how to put hym out, their delite is in lyes: they geue good wordes wyth their mouth, but curse wyth the herte. Selah.

¹ A songe and Psalme of Asaph. Holde not thy tongue, O God, kepe not styll silence, refrayne not thy self O God. ² For lo, thyne enemies make a murmurynge, and they that hate the, lyft vp their heade. ³ They ymagyn craftely agaynst thy people, and take counsayll agaynste thy secrete ones.

²⁰ Wilt thou haue any thing to do with the stoole of wickednesse, which ymagineth mischief in the lawe?

¹¹ who so then fel not doune, and worshypped not, that he shulde be caste into an hote burnynge ouen.

²⁷ Then the dukes lordes and nobles, and the kynges councell came together to se these men, vpon whom the fyre had no maner of power in theyr bodyes: In so much that the very hearre of theyr head was not burnte, & theyr clothes vnchaunged: Yea there was no smel of fyre felt vpon them.

⁵ Remembre (O my people) what Balach the kyng of Moab had Imagyned agaynst the, and what answeree that Balaam the sonne of Beor gaue hym, from Sethim vnto Galgal, that ye maye know the louyng kyndnesses of the Lorde.

¹² But the lyon spoyled ynough for hys yonge ones, & deuoured for his lionesse: he filled his dennes with his pray, & his dwellynge place with that he had rauyshed.

¹⁴ Then the pharyseis went out, and held a counsel against him, how they might destroy hym.

¹ And anone in the daunynge the hye priestes helde a counsel with the elders, and the scribes, and the whole congregacion & bounde Iesus and ledde hym awaye, & delyuered hym to Pilate.

¹⁰ The hye priestes therfore helde a counsel, that they myght put Lazarus to death also,

⁵ And it chaunced on the morowe that theyr rulars, and elders, and scribes, ⁶ as Annas the chiefe Prieste, and Cayphas, and Iohn, and Alexander, and as many as were of the hye priestes gathered together at Ierusalem, ⁷ and set them before them, & axed: by what power or in what name haue ye done this syrs?

²⁶ The kinges of the earth stode vp and the rulers came together, againste Lorde and agaynste his Chryste. ²⁷ For of a trueth againste thy holy childe Iesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herode and also Poncius Pilate, with the Gentyls & the people of Israel, gathered them selues together, ²⁸ for to do whatsoeuer thy hande and thy councell determined before to be done.

¹⁹ Yf it please the kynge, let there go a commaundement from him, and let it be wrytten accordynge to the lawe of the Persians and Medians (and not to be transgressed) that Vasthi come no more before the kynge Ahasuerus, and let the king geue the kyngedome vnto another that is better then she.

¹² Then were the kinges scribes called on the thirtenth daye of the fyrst moneth, and there was wrytten (accordyng as Haman commaunded) vnto the kinges princes and to the captiues euery where in the landes, and to the rulers of euery people in the countreyes on euery syde, accordynge to the wryttinge of euery nacyon, and after their language in the name of kynge Ahasuerus, and sealed wyth the kynges rynge.

³ And Esther spake yet more before the king, & fel doune at his fete, & besought hym, that he would put away the wickednes of Haman the Agagite, and his deuice that he had ymagened agaynst the Iewes.

⁸ Wryte ye nowe therfore for the Iewes, as it lyketh you in the kinges name, and seale it wyth the kynges ringe (for the wryttinges that were wrytten in the kinges name, and sealed wyth the kinges ringe, durst no man dysanulle.)

¹⁰ And it was written in the king Ahasuerus name, and sealed with the kinges ringe. And by postes that rode vpon swyft yong mules sent he the writtinges,

¹ Wo be vnto you that make vnryghteous lawes, and deuyse thinges, whiche be to harde for to kepe:

¹² So they came to the kynge, & spake before him concerninge his commaundement sayinge: O kinge, hast thou not subscribed the statute, that within .xxx. daies who so requireth hys petycyon of any God or man but onely of thy selfe, O kinge: he shalbe cast into the denne of the lyons? The kinge answered, and sayd: ye, it is true. It must be as a lawe of the Medes and Perses, that maye not be broken.

¹⁵ These men perceyuinge the kinges mind sayde vnto him: knowe thys (O Kinge) that the lawe of the Medes and Perses is, that the commaundement & statute, whiche the kinge maketh, may not be altered.

³⁵ Heauen & earth shal perishe, but my wordes shal abide.

⁹ As for men, they are but vayne, men are dysceatfull: vpon the weyghtes they are all together lyghter than vanitye it selfe. ¹⁰ O trust not in wronge and robbery, geue not youre selues vnto vanitye: if ryches encrease, set not your herte vpon them.

⁹ It is better to trust in the lord then to put any confydence in prynces.

³ O put not your trust in prynces, nor in any chylde of man, for there is no helpe in them.

² yet thou art bound with thyne owne wordes, & taken wt thine owne speache.

²² Every man can eschue a persone moued in anger, for what doeth he wyselye?

³⁰ And herken vnto the supplicacyon of thy seruaunte and of thy people Israel whiche they shall praye in thys place. And heare thou vp vnto heauen thy dwellynge place, and when thou heareste, haue mercye.

³⁸ then heare thou vp to heauen thy dwelling place, all the prayers and supplicacyons that shalbe made of all men thorowout all thy people Israel, which shal knoweledge euery man the plage of hys owne herte, and stretche forth hys handes vnto thys house,

⁴⁴ And when they go out to battell agaynst their enemyes whether soeuer thou shalt send them, & shall praye vnto the Lorde towarde the cytie which thou hast chosen and towarde the house that I haue buylt for thy name:

⁴⁸ & so turne agayne vnto the with all their hertes and all their soules in the land of their enemyes which holde them captyue, and praye vnto the, towarde the land which thou gauest vnto their fathers, & towarde the cytie which thou hast chosen, and house which I haue buylt for thy name: ⁴⁹ then heare thou their prayer & supplicacion vp to heauen thy dwellyng place, & iudge their causes, ⁵⁰ and be mercyfull vnto thy people that haue synned agaynst the, and vnto all their trespace that they haue trespaced agaynst the, and get the fauoure in the syght of them that hold them captyue that they may haue compassyon on them.

⁵⁴ And when Salomon had made an ende of prayinge all thys prayer & supplicacyon vnto the Lorde, he arose from before the aultare of the Lorde, & from knelyng on hys knees, and stretchynge of hys handes vp to heauen

¹³ now Salomon had made a brasen pulpyte of fyue cubytes longe, and fyue cubytes broad, and thre of heyght, and had set it in the middes of the greate courte, vpon that he stept & kneled doune vpon hys knees before all the congregacyon of Israel & stretched oute hys handes to heauen

³⁸ & turne agayne to the, wyth all theyr hertes & all theyr soules, in the lande of theyr captyuite where they be kepte in bondage, and so praye towarde theyr lande which thou gauest vnto theyr fathers, and cytye which thou hast chosen, and to thys house whiche I haue built for thy name:

⁵ And aboute the euenynge sacryfyce I rose vp from my heauynes, & rente my clothes & my rayment, and fel vpon my knees, and spred out my handes vnto the Lorde my God,

¹¹ But I sayde: shulde any suche man as I flye? Who is that, beyng as I am, that wyll go into the temple, to saue hys lyfe? I wyll not go in.

⁷ But as for me, I wyl come into thy house euen vpon the multytude of thy mercy: and in thy feare wyll I worshippe towarde thy holy temple.

¹ To the chaunter, of Dauid. In the Lord put I my trust: how will ye then saye too my soule: that she shoulde fle as a byrde vpon your hyll? ² For lo, the vngodly haue bent their bowe, and made ready their arrowes in the quyuer, that they maye priuely shute at them, which are true of hert.

¹ Of Dauid, when he fayned hym self too be madde before Abimelech: whyche droue hym awaye, and he departed. I wyll alwaye geue thanckes vnto the LORD, hys prayse shall euer be in my mouth.

¹⁷ In the euenynge, mornyng and at noone daye will I mourne and complayne: and he shall heare my voyce.

³ Be merciful vnto me, O Lord, for I cal dayly vpon the.

⁶ O come, let vs worshippe & bowe doune our selfes: Let vs knele before the Lord our maker.

¹³ Then answered they, and sayde vnto the kynge: Daniel one of the presoners of Iuda, O kynge, regardeth neyther the, nor thy statute, that thou hast made, but maketh his peticion thre tymes a day.

⁴ I thought that I had bene cast awaye out of thy syght: but I wyll yet agayne loke towarde thy holy temple.

²⁸ And feare ye not them which kil the body, and be not able to kill the soule. But rather feare him, which is able to destroy both soule & body into hell. ²⁹ Are not two sparowes solde for a farthyng? And none of them doth lyght on the grounde, without your father. ³⁰ And now are all that heires of your heades numbred. ³¹ Feare ye not therfore: ye are of more value then many sparowes. ³² Whosoeuer therfore shall acknowlege me before men, hym will I acknowledge also before my father which is in heauen. ³³ But whosoeuer shall deny me before men, hym will I also deny before my father which is in heauen.

⁴ I saye vnto you my frendes: Be not afrayde of them that kyll the bodye, and after that haue no more that they can do. ⁵ But I wil shew you whom ye shall feare. Feare hym whiche after he hath kylled, hath power to caste into hell. Yea I saye vnto you, hym feare. ⁶ Are not fyue sparrowes bought for .ij. farthynges? And yet not one of them is forgotten of God. ⁷ Also euen the very heares of your heades are numbred. Feare not therfore: Ye are more of value then many sparowes. ⁸ I saye vnto you whosoeuer confesseth me before men, euen hym shall the sonne of man confesse also before the Angels of God. ⁹ And he that denyeth me before men, shalbe denied before the Angels of God.

²⁶ If a man come to me, and hate not hys father and mother, and wyfe, and chyldren and brethren & systers, moreouer and hys owne lyfe, he can not be my disciple.

⁴¹ And he gate him selfe from them, about a stones cast, & kneled doune, & prayed

¹ When the fyfty daye was come, they were all with one accorde together in one place. ² And sodainly there came a sounde from heauen, as it had bene the comynge of a myghty wynd, and it filled al the housse where they sate.

¹⁵ These art not drounke, as ye suppose, for it is yet but the thyrde houre of the day.

¹ Peter and Iohn wente vp together into the temple at the nynth houre of prayer.

¹⁷ But that it be noised no further among the people, let vs threaten and charge them that they speake henceforth to no man in this name. ¹⁸ And they called them and commaunded them that in no wyse they should speake or teache in the name of Iesu. ¹⁹ But Peter and Iohn aunswered to them and sayd: whether it be ryght in the syght of God to obey you more then God, iudge ye.

²⁹ And nowe Lorde, beholde their threateninges, and graunte vnto thy seruauntes with all confidence to speake thy worde.

²⁰ go, steppe forthe, and speake in the temple to the people all the wordes of this lyfe.

²⁹ Peter and the other Apostles aunswered & saied. We ought more to obey God, then men.

⁴⁰ And to him they agreed, and called the Apostles, and beate them, and commaunded that they shoulde not speake in the name of Iesu, and let them go. ⁴¹ And they departed from the counsel, reioysinge that they were counted worthy, to suffer rebuke for his name. ⁴² And dayly in the temple and in euerye house they ceased not, teachinge and preachinge Iesus Christe.

⁶⁰ And he kneled doune and cryed with a loude voice: Lord laye not thys sinne to their charge. And when he had thus spoken: he fel a slepe.

⁴⁰ And Peter put them al forth and kneled doune, and praied and turned him to the bodye, and saied: Tabitha, aryse. And she opened her eyes, and when she sawe Peter she sat vp.

⁹ On the morow as they wente on theyr iourneye, and drewe nye vnto the cytie, Peter wente vp into the toppe of the house to praye about the .vi. houre.

²⁴ But none of these thinges moue me: neyther is my lyfe dere vnto my selfe: that I myght fulfyl my course with ioye, and the ministracyon whiche I haue receyued of the Lord Iesus, to testifye the gospell of the grace of God.

³⁶ When he had thus spoken, he kneled doune & prayed with them all.

⁵ And when the dayes were ended, we departed and went our wayes, & they al brought vs on our way, with theyr wyues and children, tyll we were come out of the citye. And we kneled doune in the shore and prayde.

¹⁴ For this cause I bowe my knees vnto the father of oure Lorde Iesus Christ,

¹⁴ In so much that many of the brethren in the Lorde are boldened thorowe my boundes, & dare more largely speake the worde without feare.

²⁰ as I hertely loke for and hope that in nothinge I shalbe ashamed, but that wyth all confydence as alwayes in tymes paste, euen so nowe Christe shall be magnyfyed in my bodye, whether it be thorowe lyfe, or else death.

⁶ Be not carefull: but in all thinges shewe your petition vnto God in prayer and supplication, wyth geuinge of thankes.

¹⁷ And all thinges (whatsoeuer ye do in word or dede) do it in the name of the Lorde Iesu geuinge thankes to God the father by hym.

¹⁷ Praye contynuallye. ¹⁸ In all thinges geue thankes. For thys is the wyll of God in Christe Iesu towarde you.

¹⁶ Let vs therfore go boldely vnto the seate of grace, that we may receiue mercye, and fynde grace to healpe in time of nede.

¹⁵ For by hym offre we the sacryfyce of laud alwayes to God: that is to saye, the frute of those lyppes, whiche confesse hys name.

¹⁰ Feare none of those thynges, which thou shalt suffre. Behold, the deuil shal caste of you into pryson, to tempte you, and ye shal haue tribulacion .x. dayes. Be faythful vnto the death, & I wyl geue the a croune of life.

¹³ I know thy workes, and where thou dwellest euen where Sathans seate is, and thou kepest my name, and hast not denyed my fayth. And in my dayes, Antypas was a faithful wytnes of myne whych was slaine among you, where Sathan dwelleth.

⁶ Vpon this, wente the princes and Lordes together vnto the kynge, and sayde thus vnto him: king Darius God saue thy lyfe for euer.

⁸ Now were there certayne men of the Caldees, that wente euen then, and accused the Iewes, ⁹ and sayde vnto the kynge Nabuchodonosor: O kyng, God saue thy lyfe for euer. ¹⁰ Thou beynge kynge, haste geuen a commaundement, that all men when they heare noyse of the trompettes, harpes, shawmes, psalteryes, symphonyes and all the other melodyes: shall fall downe, and bowe them selues towarde the golden Image: ¹¹ who so then fel not doune, and worshypped not, that he shulde be caste into an hote burnynge ouen. ¹² Now are there certayne Iewes, whome thou haste set ouer the offyces of the lande of Babylon, namely, Sydrach, Mysach & Abednago. These men (O kynge) regarde not thy commaundement, yea they wyll not serue thy Goddes, nor bowe them selues to the golden Image, that thou haste set vp.

⁸ Wherfore, O kynge, confirme thou this statute, and make a wryttynge, that the thynge which the Medes and Perses haue ordeyned be not altered nor broken.

¹⁹ And when her maister and maysters saw, that the hope of theyr gaynes was gone, they caughte Paule and Sylas, and drue them into the market place vnto the rulars,

²⁴ Which iaylar when he had receyued such commaundemente thruste them into the ynner pryson, and made theyr fete fast in the stockes.

² When Paule was called forth. Tartullus began to accuse hym, saiynge: Seynge that we lyue in a great quietnes by the meanes of the: & that manye good thynges are done vnto thys nacyon throughe thy prouidence: ³ that alowe we euer and in all places, most myghty Felix, wt all thankes. ⁴ Notwithstandyng that I be not tedyous vnto the. I praye the that thou wouldest heare vs of thy curtesy a fewe wordes. ⁵ We haue founde thys man a pestylent felowe, and a mouer of debate vnto all the Iewes thoroughout the world, and a mayntayner of the secte of the Nazarites, ⁶ and hath also enforsed to pollute the temple. Whome we toke, and woulde haue iudged accordynge to our law, ⁷ but the hye captayne Lysyas came vpon vs, and with great violence toke hym awaye out of our hande, ⁸ commaundyng hys accusars to come vnto the. Of whome thou mayest (yf thou wilt enquyre) knowe the certaintye of al these thynges, wherof we accuse hym. ⁹ The Iewes lykewyse affirmed, saiyng: that it was euen so.

⁶ Amonge these nowe were certayne of the chyldren of Iuda: namely Daniel, Ananias, Misael & Azarias.

¹³ Then was Daniel broughte before the kynge. So the kynge spake vnto Daniel, and sayde: Arte thou that Daniel, one of the presoners of Iuda, whome my father the kynge broughte oute of Iewry?

⁷ which Iason hath receyued pryuely. And these all do contrary to the decrees of Cesar, affyrmyng another kynge, one Iesus.

²⁸ And when it afterward came to Dauids eare, he sayde: I and my kyngedom are gyltelesse before the Lorde for euer, concernyng the bloude of Abner the sonne of Ner. ²⁹ It fal therfore on the head of Ioab and on al hys fathers house: that the house of Ioab be neuer wythoute one or other that hath runnyng yssues or wythout lepers and goers on crouches, and that fal on the swerde, and that lacke bread.

¹³ Then Nabuchodonosor in a cruell wrathe, and displeasur, commaunded that Sidrach, Misach and Abednago shulde be broughte vnto hym. So these men were broughte before the kynge.

¹⁷ And when they were gathered together. Pylate sayde to them whether wyl ye that I let lose vnto you Barrabas or Iesu, whiche is called Christe? ¹⁸ For he knewe well that for enuye they had delyuered hym. ¹⁹ When he was set doune to geue iudgement hys wyfe sent to hym saying: haue thou nothing to do with that iust man. For I haue suffered manye thynges thys daye in a dreame about hym. ²⁰ But the chief priestes and the elders had perswaded the people, that they shulde axe Barrabas and destroye Iesus. ²¹ Then the debitye answered and sayd vnto them: whether of the twayne wyll ye that I let lose vnto you? And they sayed: Barrabas ²² Pylate sayed vnto them: what shall I do then with Iesus whiche is called Christ? They all sayed vnto hym: let hym be crucifyed. ²³ Then sayed the debitie: what euyll hath he done? And they cried the more sayinge: let hym be crucifyed. ²⁴ When Pilate sawe that he preuayled nothyng but the more busynes was made, he toke water and washed his handes before the people sayinge I am innocent of the bloude of this iust persone, or on your perille be it.

²⁶ And the kynge was excedinge sory: howbeit, for his othes sake, and for their sakes, whiche sate at supper also, he woulde not put her beside her purpose.

¹³ And Pilate called together the hye priestes and the rulers, and the people, ¹⁴ and sayed vnto them. Ye haue brought this man vnto me, as one that peruerted the people. And beholde I haue examined him before you, & haue founde no faute in this man of those thinges wherof ye accuse him: ¹⁵ no nor yet Herode. For I sent you to him, and lo nothinge worthy of death is done of him. ¹⁶ I wil therfore chasten him and let him louse. ¹⁷ For of necessyte he muste haue let one louse vnto them at that feaste. ¹⁸ And all the people cryed at once saiynge: awaye with him and delyuer to vs Barrabas ¹⁹ which for insurreccion made in the cytye, and morther, was cast into prison, ²⁰ Pilate spake agayne to them willinge to let Iesus louse. ²¹ And they cryed saiynge: Crucifye him, crucyfye him.

⁷ The Iewes aunswered hym: we haue a lawe, and by our lawe he oughte to dye: because he made hym selfe the sonne of God. ⁸ When Pilate hearde that saiyng: he was the more afrayd, ⁹ and went agayne into the iudgement hall, and sayde vnto Iesus: whence are thou? But Iesus gaue hym none aunswere. ¹⁰ Then sayde Pylate vnto him: Speakest thou not vnto me? knowest thou not that I haue power to crucify the, and haue power to louse the? ¹¹ Iesus aunswered: Than couldest haue no power at all agaynst me, except it were geuen the from aboue. Therfore he that delyuered me vnto the, is more in synne. ¹² And from thence forth sought Pylate meanes to louse him: but the Iewes cryed, saiynge: yf thou let hym go, thou arte not Cesars frende. For whosoeuer maketh hym selfe a kynge, is agaynst Cesar.

²⁰ Wilt thou haue any thing to do with the stoole of wickednesse, which ymagineth mischief in the lawe? ²¹ They gather them together agaynste the soule of the righteous, and condemne the innocent bloude.

³⁹ And I am thys daye tender, thoughe I be anoynted kyng. And these men the sonnes of Zaruiah be to good for me to rule? But the Lorde rewarde the doer of euyll accordynge to hys wyckednesse.

¹⁹ He delyuereth the oute of syxe troubles so that in the seuenth there can no harme touch the.

³⁹ The helpe of the righteous commeth of the Lorde, he is their strength in the tyme of trouble. ⁴⁰ The Lorde shall stande by them, and saue them: he shall delyuer them from the vngodly and helpe them, because they put their truste in hym.

¹⁴ Because he hath set his loue vppon me, I shall deliuer hym: I shal defende him, for he hath knowen my name. ¹⁵ When he calleth vpon me, I shall heare hym: yea, I am with hym in hys trouble, wherout I will deliuer him, and bring hym to honoure. ¹⁶ With longe lyfe will I satisfye him, and shewe hym my saluacion.

⁸ It is better to trust in the lord, then to put any cofydence in man. ⁹ It is better to trust in the lord then to put any confydence in prynces.

²⁵ He that feareth men, shall haue a fall: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lorde shall come to honoure.

² When thou wentest in the water, I was by the, that the stronge floudes shuld not pluck the awaye. When thou walkest in the fyre, it shall not burne the, and the flame shall not kindle vpon the.

¹⁴ Nowe as for me: I am in youre handes, do wyth me, as ye thincke expedyent & good.

⁵ Zedekiah the kinge answered & sayde: lo he is in youre handes, for the king may denye you nothing.

¹⁵ well, be readye here after, when ye heare the noyse of the trompettes blowe wyth the harpes, shawmes, psalteryes, symphonyes and all the other melodyes: that ye fall doune, and worshyppe the Image whiche I haue made. But yf ye worshyppe it not, ye shall be caste immedyatly into an hote burnynge ouen. Let se, what God is there, that maye delyuer you oute of my handes?

¹⁷ oure GOD whome we serue, is able to kepe vs from the hote burnynge ouen (O kynge) and can right well delyuer vs oute of thy handes.

²⁸ Then spake Nabuchodonosor, and sayde: Blessed be the God of Sidrach, Misach and Abednago, whiche hath sente his aungel, & defended hys seruauntes, that put their trust in him: that haue altered the kynges commaundement: and yeoparde theyr bodyes thervpon, rather then they wolde serue or worshyp any other God, excepte theyr owne God onelye.

⁷ All the greate estates of the realme: as the princes, Dukes, Senatours, and iudges, are determed to put oute a commaundement of the kinge, and to make a sure statute: namely, that who so desireth any peticyon, ether of any god, or man (within this .xxx. dayes) excepte it be onlye of the, O kinge: the same person may be cast into the lions denne.

²⁰ Now as he came nye vnto the denne, he cried with a pyteous voyce vnto Daniell: yea the Kinge spake, and sayde vnto Daniel: O Daniel, thou seruaunt of the lyuynge God, is not thy God (whom thou alwaye seruest) able to deliuer the from the Lyons?

⁸ And she beynge informed of her mother before sayd: geue me here Ihon Baptistes head in a platter. ⁹ And the king sorowed. Neuertheles for hys othe sake, & for theyr sakes that satte at also at the table, he commaunded it to be geuen her: ¹⁰ and sent & beheaded Ihon in the pryson,

²³ Then sayed the debitie: what euyll hath he done? And they cried the more sayinge: let hym be crucifyed. ²⁴ When Pilate sawe that he preuayled nothyng but the more busynes was made, he toke water and washed his handes before the people sayinge I am innocent of the bloude of this iust persone, or on your perille be it. ²⁵ Then aunswered al the people & sayed, his bloude be on vs and on oure children. ²⁶ Then let he Barrabas louse vnto them, and schourged Iesus, and deliuered hym to be crucyfyed.

²⁵ And she came in straight way with haste vnto the kynge, and axed saying: I wil that thou geue me by and by in a charger the head of Ihon Baptist. ²⁶ And the kynge was excedinge sory: howbeit, for his othes sake, and for their sakes, whiche sate at supper also, he woulde not put her beside her purpose. ²⁷ And immediatly the kynge sent the hang man, and commaunded his headde to be brought in. And he went and beheaded hym in the pryson, ²⁸ and brought his head in a charger, and gaue it to the mayden, and the maiden gaue it to her mother.

¹⁴ Pylate said vnto them: what euyl hath he done? And they cryed the more feruentlye: Crucifye hym. ¹⁵ And so Pylate wyllyng to content the people, loused them Barrabas, and delyuered Iesus, when he had scourged hym, for to be crucifyed.

¹² And from thence forth sought Pylate meanes to louse him: but the Iewes cryed, saiynge: yf thou let hym go, thou arte not Cesars frende. For whosoeuer maketh hym selfe a kynge, is agaynst Cesar. ¹³ When Pylate heard that saiyng: he brought Iesus forth, and sate doune to geue sentence in a place called the pauement: but in the Hebrue tong Gabbatha. ¹⁴ It was the Saboth euen which falleth in the easter feast, and about the sixt houre. And he sayed vnto the Iewes. Beholde your kynge. ¹⁵ They cryed, awaye wyth hym, awaye with hym, crucifye hym. Pylate sayd to them: Shall I crucifye your kynge? The hye Priestes aunswered: we haue no king but Cesar. ¹⁶ Then delyuered he him vnto them to be crucifyed. And they toke Iesus, & led hym awaye,

²⁷ But after .ij. yeare Festus Porcius came into Felix roume. And Felix wyllynge to shewe the Iewes a pleasure, left Paule in prison bounde.

⁹ Festus willing to do the Iewes a pleasure, aunswered Paule & sayd. Wylt thou go to Hierusalem, and there be iudged of these thinges before me?

¹¹ Yf I haue hurte them, or committed anye thinge worthye of deathe, I refuse not to dye. Yf none of these thinges are, wherof they accuse me, no man ought to deliuer me to them. I appeale vnto Cesar.

²³ For there stode by me this nyght the aungell of God. Whose I am, and whom I serue, ²⁴ sayinge. Feare not Paule, for thou muste be broughte before Cesar. And lo, God hath geuen vnto the all that sayle wyth the.

³ For rulars are not to be feared for good workes, but for euyll. Wylte thou be wyth oute feare of the power? Do well then: and so shalte thou be praysed of the same.

⁵³ They haue put downe my life into a pitte and layed a stone vpon me.

⁶⁰ & put it in his newe tombe: which he had hewen out, euen in the rocke and rolled a great stone to the dore of the sepulchre and departed. ⁶¹ And ther was Marye Magdalene and the other Mary syttynge ouer agaynste the sepulchre. ⁶² The nexte daye that foloweth good fryday the hye pryestes and phariseis gothe them selues to Pilate ⁶³ and sayd: Syr, we remembre that this deceyuer sayed whyle he was yet alyue. After thre daies I will aryse agayne. ⁶⁴ Commaunde therfore that the sepulchre be made sure vntyll the thirde daye lest peraduenture his disciples come, and steale him away, and saye vnto the people, he is rysen from death, & the last errourre be worste then the fyrste. ⁶⁵ Pylate sayde vnto them: Take watche men: Go, and make it as sure as ye can. ⁶⁶ And they went and made the sepulchre sure with watche men, and sealed the stone.

⁴ And when he had caught hym, he put hym in pryson, & deliuered hym to .iiij. quaternions of soudyers to be kept, entendynge after Easter to bryng hym forth to the people.

²³ And when thei had beaten them sore, they caste them into pryson, commaundynge the iayler to kepe them surelye. ²⁴ Which iaylar when he had receyued such commaundemente thruste them into the ynner pryson, and made theyr fete fast in the stockes.

¹⁶ And Dauid besought god for the boye and fasted and wente & laye all nyght vpon the earthe. ¹⁷ And the elders of hys house arose and wente to him to take hym vp from the earthe. But he wolde not, neyther yet eat meat wyth them.

²⁴ And Miphiboseth the sonne of Saul came also to mete the kinge, and hath nether dressed his fete nor shauen hys beard nor washed his clothes from the tyme the kyng departed, vntyl he came again in peace.

²⁷ When Ahab hearde those wordes, he rent his clothes and put sackecloth about his flesh, and fasted, and laye in sack, and went confortlesse.

¹ The same nyght could not the king slepe, & he commaunded to bring the Chronicles & storyes: which when they were read before the kinge,

¹² They beare with them tabrettes and harpes, & haue instrumentes of musycke at their pleasure.

⁴ Thou heldest myne eyes wakyng, I was so feble, that I coulde not speake.

² As for our harpes, we hanged them vpon the trees, that are therin.

⁸ I gathered syluer and gold together, euen a treasure of kynges and landes. I prouyded me syngers and wemen which coulde playe of instrumentes, to make men myrth and pastime. I gat me drinckyng cuppes also and glasses.

⁸ The myrth of tabrettes shalbe layde doune, the chere of the ioyfull shall cease & the pleasure of lutes shal haue an ende ⁹ there shal no more wyne be droncke wyth myrth, the beere shalbe bytter to them that dryncke it,

¹ In the seconde yeare of the raigne of Nabuchodonosor, had Nabuchodonosor a dreame, wherethorow his sprete was vexed, & hys slepe brake from him.

⁴ Ye that lye vpon beddes of Iuerye, and vse your wantonnesse vpon your rouches: ye that eate the beste lambes of the flocke, and the fattest calues of the droaue: ⁵ ye that singe to the lute, & in playenge of instrumentes compare youre selues vnto Dauid: ⁶ ye that drincke wyne oute of goblettes, and annoynte youre selues with the best oyle, but no man is sorye for Iosephs hurte.

³ So Ionas arose, and wente to Niniue at the Lordes commaundement. Niniue was a greate cyte vnto God, namely, of thre dayes iourney. ⁴ And Ionas wente to, and entred in to the cytie: euen a dayes iourney, & cryed, sayenge: There are yet .xl. dayes and then shall Niniue be ouerthrowen. ⁵ And the people of Niniue beleued God, and proclamed fastynge, and arayed them selues in sack cloth, as wel the greate as the small of them. ⁶ And the tydinges came vnto the kynge of Niniue, whyche arose out of hys seate, and dyd hys apparell of, and put on sack cloth, & sate hym downe in asshes. ⁷ And it was cryed and commaunded in Niniue, by the auctorite of the king and hys lordes, sayenge: se that nether man or beast, oxe or shepe taste ought at all: and that they nether fede ner drinke water: ⁸ but put on sack cloth both man and beast, and crye myghtely vnto God: yee se that euery man turne from hys euell waye, and from the wyckednesse, that he hath in hande. ⁹ Who can tell? God maye turne, & repente & cease from his fearce wrath, that we perish not.

²² And the voice of harpers, & musicions, and of pipers, & trompeters, shalbe hearde no more in the, and no craftes man, of whatsoeuer crafte he be, shalbe founde any more in the, & the sound of a myl, shalbe hard no more in the,

¹ The Saboth daye at euen which dauneth the morowe after the saboth. Mary Magdalene, & the other Marye came to se the sepulchre.

² And very early in the morninge the next daye after the Saboth daye they came to the sepulchre, when the sunne was rysen.

¹³ I had no rest in my spyryte, because I founde not Titus my brother: but toke my leaue of them, and wente awaye vnto Macedonia.

⁵ For this cause when I coulde no longer forbeare, I sente, that I might haue knowledge of your fayth, least haplye the tempter had tempted you, and that oure labour had bene bestowed in vayne.

¹⁴ is the thyng to harde for the Lorde to do? In the tyme appoynted wyll I returne vnto the, as sone as the frute can haue lyfe, and Sara shall haue a sonne.

²³ And the Lord sayd vnto Moses: is the Lordes hande waxed shorte. Thou shalt se whether my worde shall come to passe vnto the or not.

¹⁵ If thou shalt kyl al thys people as they were but one man then the nacions which haue herde the fame of the, wyl speake saying: ¹⁶ because the Lorde was not able to brynge in thys people in to the land which he sware vnto them, therfore he slewe them in the wyldernesse.

¹¹ Seke the Lorde and hys strengthe: Seke hys presence alwaye.

¹⁴ As for me, I wil paciently abyde alwaye, and will euer encrease thy prayse. ¹⁵ My mouth shall speake of thy righteousnesse and sauyng health all the day longe, for I knowe no ende therof. ¹⁶ Let me go in (O Lorde God) and I wyll make mencion of thy power and righteousnesse onely. ¹⁷ Thou, O God, haste learned me fro my youth vp vntyll now, therfore wyll I tell of thy wonderous workes. ¹⁸ Forsake me not, O GOD, in myne olde age, when I am gray headed: vntyll I haue shewed thyne arme vnto chylders chyldren, and thy power to all them that are yet for to come.

²³ Neuerthelesse I am al waye by the, thou holdest me by my right hande.

¹¹² I applye myne herte to fulfil thy statutes alwaye, euen vnto the ende.

² whyle I lyue will I prayse the Lorde: yea, as longe as I haue any beyng, I will sing prayses vnto my God.

¹⁷ Let not thine herte be gelous to folowe synners, but kepe the styl in the feare of the Lord al the daye long: ¹⁸ for the ende is not yet come & thy pacient abydyng shal not be in vaine.

¹⁷ O Lorde God, it is thou that hast made heauen and earthe wyth thy greate power, and hye arme, and there is nothinge to harde for the.

²⁸ Then spake Nabuchodonosor, and sayde: Blessed be the God of Sidrach, Misach and Abednago, whiche hath sente his aungel, & defended hys seruauntes, that put their trust in him: that haue altered the kynges commaundement: and yeoparde theyr bodyes thervpon, rather then they wolde serue or worshyp any other God, excepte theyr owne God onelye. ²⁹ Therfore I wyll, and commaund, that al people, kynredes and tunges, whiche speake any blasphemye agaynst the God of Sidrach, Misach and Abednago, shall dye, and theyr houses shalbe prysed: Because there is no God that maye saue, as thys.

¹⁶ Then the kynge had them bringe Daniel, and they caste hym into the Lyons denne. The kynge also spake vnto Daniel, & sayde: thy God, whom thou alwaye seruest, euen he shall defende the.

²⁷ It is he that delyuereth and saueth: he doeth wonders & maruelous worckes, in heauen and in earth: he hath preserued Daniel from the power of the Lyons.

⁶ Then turne to thy God, kepe mercye and equyte, and hope still in thy God.

³⁷ for with God can nothing be vnpossyble.

¹ And he put forth a similitude vnto them signifyeng that men ought alwaies to pray, & not to be werye,

⁴ But we wyl geue our selues continually to prayer, and to the ministracion of the word.

⁷ that is to say, prayse, honoure and immortalytye, to them whyche continue in good doynge and seke eternall lyfe.

¹⁰ & which delyuered vs from so greate a death, and doth delyuer. On whom we truste that yet here after he will delyuer,

² Contynue in prayer & watch in the same wyth thankes geuynge,

¹² for the whiche cause I also suffer these thinges. Neuerthelesse I am not ashamed. For I know whom I haue beleued, and am sure that he is able to kepe that whiche I haue commytted to hys kepyng, agaynst that daye.

¹⁶ At my fyrste aunsweryng, no man assisted me, but all forsoke me. I praye God that it maye not be layed to theyr charges: ¹⁷ Notwithstandynge the Lord assisted me, & strenghthed me, that by me the preachynge shoulde be fulfylled to the vttermoste, and that al the Gentyles shoulde heare. And I was delyuered out of the mouth of the Lyon. ¹⁸ And the Lord shall delyuer me from all euyll doynge, and shall kepe me to his heauenly kyngdome. To whom be prayse for euer and euer, Amen.

²⁵ Wherfor he is able also euer to saue them that come vnto God by hym, seyng he euer lyueth, to make intercessyon for vs.

²⁵ But who so loketh in the perfecte lawe of lybertye, and contynueth therin (yf he be not a forgetfull hearer, but a doar of the worke) the same shall be happye in hys dede.

²⁴ Vnto hym that is able to kepe you, that ye fal not, and to preserue you fautles before the presence of hys glorye wyth ioye,

¹⁵ for I was stollen out of the lande of the Hebrues, & here also haue I done nothing at all wherfore they should haue put me in to thys dongeon.

¹⁶ Then we cried vnto the Lorde and he hearde oure voyces, and sent an angell & hath fet vs oute of Egypte. And beholde, we are in Cades a city harde by the borders of thy contry

³⁷ And Dauid spake moreouer, the Lorde that delyuered me out of the handes of the Lyon and out of the handes of the Beare, he shall delyuer me also oute of the handes of the Philistine. Then sayde Saul to Dauid: go, and the Lorde be wyth the.

⁹ & said to Saul: wherfore geuest thou an eare to mennes wordes, that saye: Dauid seketh the euyl? ¹⁰ Beholde, this daye thine eyes haue sene, howe that the Lord had delyuered the this daye, into myne hande in the caue. When they bad kil the, mine eye had compassion on the: and I sayde: I wyll not laye my handes on my mayster, for he is the lordes anoynted. ¹¹ And moreouer my father, se yet the lap of thy cote in my hand. And in as muche as I killed the not to, when I cut of the lappe of thy cote, vnderstand and se, that there is nether euyl nor rebellyousnesse in me, & that I haue not synned agaynst the. And yet thou huntest after my soule to take it.

¹⁸ And he saide therto: wherfore doth my Lorde persecute hys seruaunt? for what haue I done? or what euil is in myne hande.

⁷ In my trybulacyon I called to the Lorde, and cryed to my God. And he hearde my voyce out of his temple, and my crye entered into hys eares.

²¹ And the Lorde sent an angell & destroyed all the men of warre and the Lordes & capitaynes of the hoste of the kyng of Assur, that he turned hys face wyth shame towarde hys owne lande. And when he was come into the house of his God, he was there ouerthrowen wyth the swerde euen by them that issued oute of hys bowelles.

¹ Sigaion of Dauid, whych he sang for the wordes of Cus the sonne of Iemini. O Lord my god, in the do I trust: saue me from al them that persecute me, and delyuer me. ² Lest he deuoureth vp my soule lyke a lion and teare it in peces whyle ther is none to helpe, ³ O Lorde my God, if I haue done anye suche thyng, if there be any vnrightuousnes in my handes: ⁴ If I haue rewarded euyl vnto them that dealt frendly wyth me, or hurt them that wyth out any cause are myne enemies.

¹⁹ He broughte me forthe also into lybertye: and delyuered me, because, he had a fauoure vnto me. ²⁰ The Lorde shall rewarde me after my righteous dealynge, and accordynge to the clennesse of my handes shall he recompense me. ²¹ For I haue kepte the wayes of the Lord: and haue not behaued my selfe wickedly agaynst my God. ²² I haue an eye vnto all hys lawes, and caste not oute hys commaundementes fro me. ²³ Vncorrupte wyll I be before him, and will eschue myne owne wyckednes. ²⁴ Therfore shall the Lorde rewarde me after my ryghtuous dealynge, and accordinge vnto the clennesse of my handes in his eye sighte.

⁶ I wash my handes with innocencye, O Lorde, and so go I to thyne alter.

¹⁴ But my hope is in the Lord, and I say thou art my God.

⁷ The Aungel of the Lorde pytcheth hys tente rounde aboute hym that feare hym, & delyuereth them.

²¹ Forsake me not (O Lord my God) O go not farre fro me.

¹¹ For the Lord God is a light and defence, the Lorde wyll geue grace and worshyppe, and no good thynge shall he wytholde from them that lyue a godly lyfe.

¹¹ For he shall gyue his aungels charge ouer the, to kepe the in all thy wayes. ¹² They shall beare the in their handes, that thou hurt not thy fote agaynst a stone. ¹³ Thou shalt go vpon the Lyon and Adder the yonge lyon and the Dragon shalte thou treade vnder thy fete.

²⁸ Thou art my God, and I wil thancke the: thou art my God, and I wyll prayse the.

¹⁰ Then shall they saye. O happye are the godly, for they maye enioye the frutes of theyr studyes.

⁹ In their troubles he forsoke them not, but the aungel that went forthe from his presence delyuered them. Of very loue & kindnesse that he had vnto them, redemed he them. He hath borne them, and caryed them vp euer, sence the worlde beganne.

²³ Then was the kinge exceadinge glad, and commaunded to take Daniel out of the denne. So Daniel was broughte oute of the denne, and no maner of hurte was found vpon him. For he put his trust in his God.

⁷ Neuerthelesse I wyll loke vp vnto the Lorde, I wyll pacyentlye abyde God my sauyoure: my God shall heare me.

⁴⁶ And aboute the ninthe houre Iesus cryed with a loude voice sayinge: Eli Eli lama sabathani. That is to saye, my God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

¹⁷ Iesus sayd vnto her touch me not, for I am not yet ascended to my father. But go to my brethren, & saye vnto them: I ascende vnto my father and youre father: to my God and your God. ¹⁸ Mary Magdalene came and tolde the dyscyples that she had sene the Lord, and that he had spoken suche thinges vnto her.

¹¹ And when Peter was come to hym selfe, he sayde. Nowe I knowe of a suretye, that the Lorde hath sent hys aungell, and hath delyuered me out of the hande of Herode, and from all the waytyng for of the people of the Iewes.

¹⁶ And therfore studye I to haue a cleare conscience towarde God, and towarde man also.

⁸ as longe as he aunswered for him selfe, that he had neither againste the lawe of the Iewes, neither againste the temple, nor yet againste Cesar, offended any thynge at al. ⁹ Festus willing to do the Iewes a pleasure, aunswered Paule & sayd. Wylt thou go to Hierusalem, and there be iudged of these thinges before me? ¹⁰ Then saied Paule: I stand at Cesars iudgement seate, where I oughte to be iudged. To the Iewes haue I no harme done, as thou verye wel knowest. ¹¹ Yf I haue hurte them, or committed anye thinge worthye of deathe, I refuse not to dye. Yf none of these thinges are, wherof they accuse me, no man ought to deliuer me to them. I appeale vnto Cesar.

²³ For there stode by me this nyght the aungell of God. Whose I am, and whom I serue,

¹² Oure reioysinge is this, the testimony of oure conscience, that in synglenes and Godly purenes, and not in fleshely wysdome, but by the grace of God, we haue had oure conuersation in the worlde, and moste of all to youwardes.

¹⁷ Notwithstandynge the Lord assisted me, & strenghthed me, that by me the preachynge shoulde be fulfylled to the vttermoste, and that al the Gentyles shoulde heare. And I was delyuered out of the mouth of the Lyon.

³³ which thorowe fayth subdued kingdomes wrought ryghtuousnes, obtayned the promyses, stopped the mouthes of Lyons,

¹⁹ For therby we know that we are of the verytye, and can before him quyete oure hertes. ²⁰ But if our hertes condempne vs, God is greater then our hertes, and knoweth all thinges. ²¹ Beloued, yf our hertes condempne vs not, then haue we trust to Godward,

⁹ And Iethro reioysed ouer all the good which the Lorde had done to Israell, & bicause he had deliuered them out of the handes of the Egyptians.

⁷ When Hiram hearde the wordes of Salomon, he reioysed greatlye & sayde: Blessed be the Lorde this daye whiche hath set Dauid a wyse sonne ouer this myghtie people.

²⁰ And they were holpe agaynst them, and the Hagarites were delyuered into theyr handes with all that were wyth the Hagarites. For they cryed to God in the battell, and he hearde them, because they trusted to hym.

¹¹ And Hyram kynge of Tyre aunswered in wrytynge & sente to Salomon: because the Lord loueth hys people, therfore he hath made the kyng ouer them. ¹² And Hiram sayde moreouer: blessed be the Lord God of Israel which hath made bothe heauen and earth, that he hath geuen Dauid the kynge a wyse sonne that hath discrecyon and vnderstandynge, to buylde an house for the Lorde, and auother for his kingdome.

²⁰ And so they arose erlye in the mornyng, and get them out vnto the wyldernesse of Tekua. And as they went out, Iehosaphat stode and sayde: heare me Iuda, and ye enhabyters of Ierusalem. Beleue in the Lorde youre God, and so shall ye continue: and beleue his prophetes & so shall ye prospere.

⁴⁰ The Lorde shall stande by them, and saue them: he shall delyuer them from the vngodly and helpe them, because they put their truste in hym.

³ O put not your trust in prynces, nor in any chylde of man, for there is no helpe in them. ⁴ For when the breath of man goeth forth, he shall turne agayne to his earth, and so all hys thoughtes perysh. ⁵ Blessed is he that hath the God of Iacob for his helpe, and whose hope is in the Lord hys God. ⁶ Which made heauen and earth, the sea, & all that therin is, which kepeth hys promise for euer.

¹⁰ The name of the Lord is a strong castel, the righteous flieth vnto it, and shalbe saued.

³ And thou, whiche art the doar & hast the matter in hand, shalt prouyde for peace, euen the peace that men hope for in the.

²⁵ He aunswered and sayde: lo, for all that, yet do I se foure men goynge lowse in the myddeste of the fyre, and nothynge corrupte: and the fourthe is lyke an angell to loke vpon.

²⁷ Then the dukes lordes and nobles, and the kynges councell came together to se these men, vpon whom the fyre had no maner of power in theyr bodyes: In so much that the very hearre of theyr head was not burnte, & theyr clothes vnchaunged: Yea there was no smel of fyre felt vpon them. ²⁸ Then spake Nabuchodonosor, and sayde: Blessed be the God of Sidrach, Misach and Abednago, whiche hath sente his aungel, & defended hys seruauntes, that put their trust in him: that haue altered the kynges commaundement: and yeoparde theyr bodyes thervpon, rather then they wolde serue or worshyp any other God, excepte theyr owne God onelye.

¹⁴ When the king heard these wordes, he was sore greued, and would haue excused Daniel, to deliuer him, and put of the matter, vnto the Sunne wente doune to the intent that he myght saue hym.

¹⁸ So the kinge wente into his palace, & kepte him sober al night, so that there was no table spred before him, neyther coulde he take any slepe.

²³ And Iesus sayd vnto him: yea, if thou couldest beleue, al thinges are possible to him that beleueth.

¹⁸ & let the iudges enquyre a good. And yf the witnesse be founde false and that he hath geuen false wytnesse agaynst his brother ¹⁹ then shal ye do vnto him as he had thought to do vnto his brother, & so thou shalt put euell awaye from the. ²⁰ And other shall heare & feare and shal henceforth comyt no more any soche wickednesse among you.

¹⁶ The fathers shal not dye for the chyldren nor the children for the fathers: but euery man shal dye for his awne synne.

²⁴ And Iosua toke Acan the sonne of Zareh, and the syluer, and the garment, and the tonge of golde, and hys sonnes and hys doughters, hys oxen, asses, shepe, hys tente and all that he had, and all Israell wyth him, & brought them vnto the valeye of Acor. ²⁵ And Iosua sayde: In as muche as thou hast troubled vs, the Lorde shal trouble the thys daye. And all Israell stoned hym wyth stones, and burnt them wyth fyre, and ouerwhelmed them wyth stones.

⁶ But the chyldren of those murtherars he slue not, as it is written in the boke of the lawe of Moses, where the Lorde commaunded sayinge: the fathers shall not dye for the childrens cause, nor the chyldren for the deades of theyr fathers: But euerye man shalbe slayne for hys owne synne.

¹⁰ So they hanged Haman on the galowes that he had made for Mardocheus. Then was the Kynges wrath pacyfyed.

¹⁰ the ten sonnes of Haman the sonne of Hamadatha the enemy of the Iewes: but on hys goodes they layed no handes.

²⁵ and how Hester went and spake to the king, that thorow letters his wycked deuice (which he ymagined agaynst the Iewes) myght be turned vpon his owne heade, and howe he & hys sonnes were hanged on the tree.

⁵ He shall reward euel vnto myne enemies and in thy trueth shalt thou destroy them.

⁸ The rightuous shalbe delyuered out of trouble, and the vngodly shal come in his steade.

¹³ I thought I wolde haue lyued vnto the morow, but he brosed my bones lyke a lyon, and made an ende of me in one daye.

²² for the kynges commaundemente was so strate, and the ouen was exceadynge hote. As for the men that put in Sydrach, Mysach & Abednago, the flamme of the fyre destroyed them.

¹ In the fyrste yeare of Cyrus king of Persia (that the word of the lord spoken by the mouth of Ieremy mighte be fulfylled) the Lord stered vp the sprete of Cyrus kynge of Persia, that he caused it be proclamed thorowout al his empyre, ye and by wrytinge also, saying: ² Thus sayth Cyrus the king of Persia: The Lord God of heauen hath geuen me al the kingdomes in the land & hath commaunded me to buylde him an house at Ierusalem in Iuda.

¹⁷ Then sent the Kyng an answere vnto Rehum the chaunceler, and Samsai the Scribe, and to the other of their counsel that dwelt in Samaria, and vnto the other beyonde the water. Peace & salutacyon.

⁹ Then were the kinges scribes called at the same tyme in the thirde moneth, that is the moneth Siuan, on the thre and twentyeth daye. And it was wrytten, as Mardocheus commaunded vnto the Iewes and to the princes, to the debities and captaynes in the landes from India vntil Ethiopia, namely an hundred & seuen & twenty landes, vnto euery one according to the wryttyng therof, vnto euery people after their speche, and to the Iewes accordyng to their wryttynge and language.

¹ Nabuchodonosor Kynge vnto all people, kynreddes and tunges that dwell vpon the whole earthe: peace be multiplyed among you,

² by the for knoweledge of God the father, thorowe the sanctifiynge of the spyryte, vnto obedience & sprinklyng of the bloude of Iesus Christe. Grace be wyth you & peace be multiplied.

² Grace wyth you, and peace be multiplied in the knowledge of God and of Iesus Christ oure Lorde.

² Mercye vnto you, and peace, and loue be multiplyed.

²⁶ For what is any fleshe that he shoulde heare the voyce of the liuing God speakynge oute of the fyre as we haue done & shoulde yet lyue?

²⁶ Then spake Dauid to the men that stode by and sayde: What shalbe done to the man that beateth thys Philistine, and taketh awaye the shame from Israel? for what is this vncircumcysed Phylystyne, that he shoulde reuyle the hoste of the lyuynge God?

³⁶ For bothe a Lyon and also a Beare hath thy seruaunt slayne. And this vncircumcysed Philistine shalbe as one of them, for hys railing on the hoste of the lyuyng God.

⁸ I haue commaunded also, what shalbe done to the Elders of Iuda for the buyldyng of the house of God, that there shall dilygently be taken of the Kinges goodes, euen of the rentes beyonde the water, & geuen vnto the men, and that they be not hindred. ⁹ And yf they haue nede of calues, lambes, or goates, for the burntofferynge vnto the God of heauen, wheate, salt, wyne and oyle, after the custome of the pryestes at Ierusalem, there shalbe geuen tem daylie as is accordyng: & se that this be done without faute, ¹⁰ that they maye offre swete sauoures vnto the God of heauen, and praye for the kinges lyfe & for his children. ¹¹ This commaundement haue I geuen. And what man soeuer he be that altereth these wordes, there shall a beame be taken from his house, & set vp, and he shalbe hanged theron, & his house shalbe prysed for the deade. ¹² But the God that dwelleth in heauen, destroye al kinges and people, that put to their hande to alter & to breake doune the house of God at Ierusalem. I Darius haue commaunded, that this he diligently done.

¹² Vnto Esdras the priest and scribe in the lawe of the God of heauen, peace and salutacyon. ¹³ I haue commaunded, that all they of the people of Israel, and of the priestes and Leuites in my reaulme, whyche are mynded of their owne good wil to go vp to Ierusalem, that they go wyth the,

¹¹ Serue the Lorde wyth feare, and reioyse before hym wyth reuerence.

¹⁰ The Lord stilleth the water floud, and the Lord remaineth a king for euer.

¹ The Lorde is kyng, and hath put on glorious apparell, the Lorde hath put on his apparell, & gyrded him selfe with strengthe: he hath made the rounde world so sure, that it can not be moued. ² From that tyme forth hath thy seate bene prepared, thou art from euerlastyng.

¹ The Lorde is kynge, be the people neuer so vnpaciente: he sytteth vpon the Cherubyns, be the earth neuer so vnquiete. ² The Lord is greate in Sion, & hye aboue all people. ³ O let men geue thanckes vnto thy greate and wonderfull name, for it is holye.

¹²⁰ My flesh trembleth for feare of the, and I am afrayed of thy iudgementes.

¹² That thy power, thy glory & mightinesse of thy kyngedome myghte be knowen vnto men. ¹³ Thy kyngdome is an euerlastyng kyngedome, and thy dominion endureth thorowe out all ages.

¹⁰ The Lord thy God, O Syon, is kyng for euermore, & thorow out all generacions. Prayse the euerlastynge.

⁷ he shall make no ende to encrease the kyngedome and peace, and shall sytte vpon the seate of Dauid, and in his kyngedome, to set vp the same, to stablyshe it wyth equyte and ryghteousnesse, from thence forth for euermore. This shall the gelousy of the Lorde of hostes brynge to paste.

² As for these thynges, my hande had made them all, and they are all created, sayeth the Lorde. Whyche of them shall I then regarde? Euen hym, that is of a lowly troubled spyryte, and standeth in awe of my wordes.

¹⁰ But the Lorde is a true God, a lyuynge God, and an euerlastinge kyng. Yf he be wroth, the earthe shaketh: all the Gentiles maye not abyde his indygnacyon.

⁴⁴ In the dayes of these kinges shall the God of heauen set vp an euerlastynge kyngdome whiche shall not peryshe, and hys kyngdome shall not be geuen ouer to another people: yea the same shal breake and destroy al these kingdomes, but it shall endure foreuer.

²⁹ Therfore I wyll, and commaund, that al people, kynredes and tunges, whiche speake any blasphemye agaynst the God of Sidrach, Misach and Abednago, shall dye, and theyr houses shalbe prysed: Because there is no God that maye saue, as thys.

³ O how greate are hys tokens, and howe myghtie are hys wonders? His kyngedome is an euerlastynge kyngedome, and hys power lasteth for euer & euer.

³⁴ When this tyme was passed, I Nabuchodonosor lyfte vp myne eyes vnto heauen, and myne vnderstandynge was restored vnto me agayne. Then gaue I thanckes vnto the hyghest. I magnifyed and praysed hym that lyueth for euermore, whose power endureth alwaye, and his kingdome from one generacion to another:

¹⁴ Then gaue he hym power and dignitie regal, that al people trybes and tunges shoulde serue him. Hys power is an euerlastynge power, whych shal neuer be put doune, and his kingdome endureth vncorrupte.

²⁷ As for the kingedome, power and all might that is vnder the heauen, it shalbe geuen to the holy people of the most hyest, whose kingedome is euerlastinge, yea all powers shall serue & obeye him.

¹⁰ And thoughe the nombre of the chyldren of Israel be as the sand of the sea, which can neyther be measured nor tolde: yet in the place where it is sayde vnto them, ye be not my people, euen there shal it be thus reported of them: they be the chyldren of the lyuynge God.

⁶ For I am the lord that chaunge not, and ye (O children of Iacob) wyll not leaue of:

¹³ And lead vs not into temptaciou. But delyuer vs from euyll. For thyne is the kingdome and the power, and the glorye for euer Amen.

³³ and he shall raigne ouer the house of Iacob for euer, & of his kingdome shall be no ende.

⁵ But I wil shew you whom ye shall feare. Feare hym whiche after he hath kylled, hath power to caste into hell. Yea I saye vnto you, hym feare.

²⁵ as though he neded of any thing seynge he hym selfe geueth lyfe and brethe to al men euerye where,

²⁶ And it shall come to passe in the place where it was sayed vnto them, ye are not my people: that there shalbe called the children of the liuinge God.

⁹ For they them selues shewe of you, what maner of entering in we had vnto you, and howe ye turned vnto God from Images, for to serue the liuing and true God,

¹⁷ So God wyllynge verye aboundauntlye to shewe vnto the heyres of promes, the stablenes of hys counsayle, he added an othe, ¹⁸ that by two immutable thynges (in which it was vnpossyble that GOD shaulde lye) we myghte haue perfecte consolacyon, whiche haue fled, for to holde faste the hope that is set before vs,

²⁹ For our God is a consumynge fyre.

¹⁷ Euery good gyfte, and euerye perfecte gyfte, is from aboue and commeth doune from the father of lyght wyth whome is no varyablenes, neyther is he chaunged vnto darkenes.

¹⁰ the .xxiiij. elders fel doune before him that sate on the throne, and worshypped him that lyueth for euer, and cast their crounes before the throne, saiynge:

¹⁴ And the foure beastes sayd Amen. And the .xxiiij. elders fel vpon theyr faces, and worshypped hym that liueth for euermore.

¹⁵ And the seuenth angell blewe, and there were made greate voyces in heauen, sayinge: the kyngdomes of thys worlde are oure Lordes and hys Christes, & he shall raygne for euer more.

¹⁵ The poore delyuereth he oute of hys straytnesse, and comforteth suche as be in necessyte and trouble.

⁴⁸ It is he that delyuereth me from my cruell enemyes: thou shalt lyfte me vp from them that ryse against me, thou shalt rid me from the wycked man.

⁵⁰ Greate prosperitye geueth he vnto hys Kynge: and sheweth louynge kyndnesse vnto Dauyd hys anoynted yea & vnto his sede for euermore.

⁷ Thou art my defence in the trouble that is come aboute me, O compasse thou me about also with the ioy of deliuerance. Selah

¹⁷ Lorde, whan wilt thou loke vpon thys? O restore my soule from the wycked rumoure of them, my dearlynge from the lyons?

¹⁰ O ye that loue the lorde, se that ye hate that thyng whiche is euell: the lorde preserueth the soules of his saynctes, he shall deliuer them from the hande of the vngodly.

¹⁹ Thou art the greate and myghtie God, whose name is the Lorde of Hostes, greate in counsel, and infinite in thought. Thine eyes loke vpon all the wayes of mens chyldren, to rewarde euery one after his waye, and according to the frutes of his inuencyons. ²⁰ Thou hast done greate tokens and wonders in the lande of Egipt (as we se this daye) vpon the people of Israel, and vpon those men: to make thy name greate, as it is come to passe this daye.

² I thoughte it good to shew the tokens and meruelous worckes, that the hye God hath wrought vpon me. ³ O how greate are hys tokens, and howe myghtie are hys wonders? His kyngedome is an euerlastynge kyngedome, and hys power lasteth for euer & euer.

¹⁷ And these sygnes shall folowe them that beleue. In my name they shall caste oute deuils, & shall speake with newe tonges, ¹⁸ & shall kyll serpentes, and yf they drinke any deadly thynge, it shall not hurte them. They shal lay theyr handes on the sycke, and they shal recouer.

⁷⁴ for to geue vs. That we delyuered out of the power of oure enemyes, might serue him without feare ⁷⁵ all the dayes of our lyfe, in such holynes and ryghtuousnes as are accept before hym.

³⁰ So that thou stretche forth thy hande, that healing and signes and wounders be done by the name of thy holye chylde Iesus.

⁸ Brethren I woulde not haue you ignoraunt of oure trouble, whiche happened vnto vs in Asia. For we were greued out of measure passinge strength, so greatlye that we despeared euen of lyfe. ⁹ Also we receiued and aunswere of death in our selues, and that because we woulde not put oure truste in oure selues: but in God, whiche rayseth the dead to lyfe again, ¹⁰ & which delyuered vs from so greate a death, and doth delyuer. On whom we truste that yet here after he will delyuer,

⁴ God bearynge wytnesse therto, both wyth signes and wonders also, and with diuers miracles, and giftes of the holy ghoste, according to his own will.

²² And the fyrst yere of Cyrus kynge of Persia to fynishe the worde of the Lorde by the mouth of Ieremiah, the Lorde stered vp the spirite of Cyrus kyng of Persia that he made a proclamacion thorouout all his kyngdom, and therto sett it vp in wrytynge, sayinge.

²⁸ I saye to Cyrus: thou art myne herd man: so that he shall fulfill all thinges after my will. I saye to Ierusalem: be thou buylded, & to the temple: be thou fast grounded.

²¹ And Daniel abode styl, vnto the fyrste yeare of kynge Cyrus.

¹ In the thirde yeare of king Cirus of Persia, there was shewed vnto Daniel (otherwyse called Balthazar) a matter, yea a true matter, but it is yet a longe tyme vnto it. He vnderstode the matter well, and perceyued what the vision was.
