⁴ & yet the Lord hath not geuen you an herte to perceyue, nor eyes to se, nor eares to heere vnto thys daye.

³⁰ But Sehon the kyng of Hesbon wold not let vs passe by hym, for the Lord thy GOD had hardened hys sprite and made his herte tough because he wold delyuer him in to thy handes as it is come to passe thys day.

¹² As for the hearing of the eare & the sight of the eye, the Lord hath made them both.

⁹ And so he sayde: go, and tell thys people: ye shall heare in dede, but ye shall not vnderstande, ye shall playnelye se, & not perceyue. ¹⁰ Harden the hart of thys people, stoppe theyr eares, and shutte theyr eyes, that they se not with theyr eyes, heare not wyth theyr eares, and vnderstande not wyth theyr hertes, and conuerte and be healed.

¹⁷ O Lord wherfore hast thou led vs out of thy waye? wherfore hast thou hardened our hertes, that we feare the not? Be at one with vs agayne, for thy seruauntes sake that are of the generacion of thine heretage.

²⁶ A new herte also will I geue you, and a new sprete wyll I put into you: As for that stony herte, I wyll take it out of youre body, & geue you a fleshly herte.

¹¹ He aunswered and sayde vnto theym: it is geuen vnto you to know the secretes of the kyngdom of heauen, but to them it is not geuen ¹² For whosoeuer hath to hym shalbe geuen, and he shall haue aboundaunce. But whosoeuer hath not: from hym shalbe taken awaye euen that he hath. ¹³ Therfore speake I to them in similitudes: for though they se, they se not: and hearyng they heare not: neyther vnderstand. ¹⁴ And in them is fulfilled the Prophesye of Esayas, whych prophesie sayth: with the eares ye shal heare, and shal not vnderstande, and with the eyes ye shal se, and shall not perceyue. ¹⁵ For this people hertes are waxed grosse, and their eares were dull of hearynge, and their eyes haue they closed, lest they should se with their eyes, and heare with their eares, and shoulde vnderstand with their hertes, & should tourne that I myght heale them.

⁴³ Why do ye not knowe my speache? Euen because ye cannot abyde the hearynge of my wordes.

³⁸ that the saiynge of Esayas the Prophete myght be fulfylled, that he spake. Lorde, who shall beleue our saiyng? And to whome is the arme of the Lorde opened? ³⁹ Therfore coulde they not beleue, because that Esayas sayth agayne: ⁴⁰ he hath blynded theyr eyes and hardened theyr hertes, that they shoulde not se with theyr eyes, and vnderstand with theyr hertes, and shoulde be conuerted, and I shoulde heale them.

²⁶ and saye: wyth youre eares shall ye heare, & shall not vnderstande: and wyth youre eies shal ye se and shall not perceiue. ²⁷ For the hert of this people is waxed grosse and their eares were thicke of hearinge, and theyr eyes haue they closed: lest they should se with their eyes, and heare with their eares, and vnderstande with their hertes, and should be conuerted, and I should heale them.

⁷ What then? Israell hath not obtayned that, that he soughte. No but the electyon hath obtayned it. The remnaunte are blynded, ⁸ accordynge as it is wrytten. God hath geuen them the spirite of vnquyetnes: eyes that they should not se, and eares that they shoulde not heare euen vnto thys daye. ⁹ And Dauyd sayth: Let theyr table be made a snare to take them wyth all, and an occasyon to fall, and a reward vnto them. ¹⁰ Let theyr eyes be blynded that they se not: and euer bowe doune theyr backes.

¹⁵ But euen vnto thys daye when Moyses is reade, the vayle hangeth before theyr hertes.

¹⁸ blynded in theyr vnderstandynge, beynge straungers from the lyfe whiche is in God thorowe the ignoraunce that is in them, because of the blyndnes of theyr hertes:

¹⁰ and in all deceyuablenes of vnryghtuousnes, amonge them that peryshe: because they receyued not the loue of the truethe, that they myght haue bene sayed. ¹¹ And therfore God shall sende them stronge delusyon, that they shoulde beleue lyes: ¹² that all they myghte be damned which beleued not the trueth but had pleasure in vnryghtuousnes.

²⁵ the euyll in meakenes, and can informe them that resiste: yf that God at any tyme wyll geue them repentaunce for to know the trueth,

¹³ Let no man saye when he is tempted, that he is tempted of God. For god tempteth not vnto euyl, neyther tempteth he any man: ¹⁴ But euerye man is tempted, drawne awaye, & entysed of hys owne concupiscence. ¹⁵ Then when luste hath conceyued, she bringeth forth sinne, & sinne when it is fynyshed bryngeth forthe death. ¹⁶ Erre not my deare brethren. ¹⁷ Euery good gyfte, and euerye perfecte gyfte, is from aboue and commeth doune from the father of lyght wyth whome is no varyablenes, neyther is he chaunged vnto darkenes.
