¹ These are the names of the chyldrene of Israel, whiche came to Eypte with Iacob, euery man wyth hys houshold: ² Ruben, Simeon, Leui, Iuda, ³ Isachar, Zabulon, Beniamyn, ⁴ Dan, Nephtali, Gad, and Aser. ⁵ All these soules that came out of the loynes of Iacob were .lxx. and Ioseph was in Egypte all ready. ⁶ When Ioseph was deade and all hys brethren, and all that generation: ⁷ the chyldren of Israell grewe, encreased multiplied, & waxed exceadyng myghtye: so that the land was full of them. ⁸ Then there rose vp a new kyng in Egipt whyche knewe not Iosephe. ⁹ And he sayed vnto hys folke: beholde, the people of the chyldren of Israell are moo and myghtyer then wee. ¹⁰ Come on, lette vs playe wyselye wyth theym: least they multiplye, and then (if there chaunce anye warre) they ioyne theym selues vnto oure enimyes and lighte agaynste vs, and so gette theym oute of the Lande. ¹¹ And he sette taskemasters ouer theim, to kepe them vnder wyth burthens. And they buylte vnto Pharao treasure cityes: Phyton, and Rameses. ¹² But the more they vexed theym, the more they multiplyed and grew: so that they abhorred the chyldren of Israell. ¹³ And the Egyptians helde the chyldren of Israell in bondage wythoute mercye, ¹⁴ and made theyr lyues bytter, vnto theym, wyth cruell laboure in clay and brycke, and all maner worcke in the fyeldes, and in all maner of seruice, whyche they caused theim to worcke cruellye. ¹⁵ And the Kynge of Egypte sayed vnto the mydwyues of the Ebrues women, of which the ones name was Sephora, and the other Phua: ¹⁶ when ye do the offyce of a mydwyfe to the women of the Hebrues, and see in the byrthe tyme that it is a boye, kyl it. But if it be a mayed, lette it lyue. ¹⁷ Notwythstanding the mydwyues feared God, and dyd not as the Kynge of Egpt commaunded them: but saued the men chyldren. ¹⁸ Then the Kynge of Egypte called for the mydwiues and said vnto them: why haue ye delt on thys maner and haue saued the men-children? ¹⁹ And the midwiues answerd Pharao, that the Hebrues women were not as the women of Egipte: but were sturdy women, and were deliuered yer the midwyues came at them. ²⁰ And God therfore dealte wel to the mydwyues. And the people multiplyed and waxed very myghty. ²¹ And bycause the mydwyues feared God, he made them houses. ²² Then Pharao charged al his people saying Al the men children that are borne, cast into the ryuer, and saue the mayd children alyue.

³¹ When the Lord sawe that Lea was despised he made hyr fruitful: but Rahel was baren.

¹⁸ Then as hyr soule was a departynge, that she must die, she called his name BenOni. But his father called him BenIamyn.

²³ The sonnes of Lea. Ruben Iacobs eldest sonne, and Simeon, Leui, Iuda, Isachar, & Zabulon. ²⁴ The sonnes of Rahell: Ioseph & BenIamin. ²⁵ The sonnes of Bilha Rahels mayde: Dan and Nepthali. ²⁶ The sonnes of Zilpha Leas mayde, Gad and Aser. These are the sonnes of Iacob whyche were borne hym in Messopotamia.

⁸ These are the names of the chyldren of Israel which came in to Egypte, both Iacob & his sonnes: Ruben Iacobs first sonne. ⁹ The chyldren of Ruben: Hanoch, Pallu, Hizron and Charmi. ¹⁰ The chyldren of Symeon: Iemuel, Iamin, Ohad, Iachin, Zohar & Saul the sonne of a Cananitish woman. ¹¹ The chyldren of Leui: Gerson, Rahath and Merari. ¹² The chyldren of Iuda: Er, Onan, Sela, Pharez & Zerah, but Er and Onan dyed in the lande of Canaan, The chyldren of Pharez, Hezron & Hamul. ¹³ The chyldren of Isachar: Tola, Phua, Iob and Semson. ¹⁴ The chyldren of Zabulon: Sered, Elon & Iaheleel. ¹⁵ These be the chyldren of Lea whiche she bare vnto Iacob in Mesopotamia with hys daughter Dina. All these soules of hys sonnes and doughters make .xxx. and .iij. ¹⁶ The children of Gad: Ziphion, Raggi, Suni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi and Areli. ¹⁷ The chyldren of Asser: Iemna, Iesua, Iesui, Brya & Serah their syster. And the chyldren of Brya were Heber and Malchiel. ¹⁸ These are the chyldren of Silpha whom Laban gaue to Lea hys doughter. And these she bare vnto Iacob in nombre .xvi. soules. ¹⁹ The chyldren of Rahel Iacobs wyfe: Ioseph and Beniamin. ²⁰ And vnto Ioseph in the lande of Egypte were borne: Manasses and Ephraim whiche Asnath the daughter of Putiphar prest of On bare vnto hym. ²¹ The chyldren of Beniamin: Bela, Becher, Asbel, Gera, Nacman, Ehi, Ros, Mupim, Hupim and Ard. ²² These are the chyldren of Rahel whiche were borne vnto Iacob .xiiij. soules al to gether. ²³ The chyldren of Dan: Husim. ²⁴ The chyldren of Nepthali: Zahezeel Guni, Iezer and Sillem. ²⁵ These are the sonnes of Bilha which Laban gaue vnto Rahel his daughter, and she bare these vnto Iacob, all together .vij. soules. ²⁶ Al the soules that came wyth Iacob in to Egypte whyche came oute of hys loyns (besyde hys sonnes wyfes) were al together .lx. and .vi. soules.

³ Ruben thou art myne eldest sonne, my myghte and the begynnyng of my strength, chefe in receyuynge and chefe in power. ⁴ As vnstable as water wast thou: thou shalt therfore not be the chefest, for thou wenst vp vpon thy fathers bedd, and than defyledest thou my couche with goyng vp. ⁵ The brethren Symeon and Leui, wycked instrumentes are their wepons. ⁶ In to theyr secrettes come not my soule, and vnto their congregacion be my honour not coupled: for in their wrath they slewe a man, and in theyr selfe wyll they houghed an oxe. ⁷ Cursed be their wrath for it was stronge, and theyr fearsnes for it was cruell. I wyl therfore deuyde them in Iacob, & scater them in Israell. ⁸ Iuda, thy brethren shal prayse the, & thyne hand shalbe in the necke of thyue enemyes, & thy fathers chyldren shall stoupe vnto the. ⁹ Iuda is a lyons whelpe, From spoyle my sonne thou art come an hye: he layde hym doune and couched hym selfe as a lyon, and as a lionesse. Who dare stere hym vp? ¹⁰ The sceptre shal not departe from Iuda, nor a ruelar from betwene hys legges, vntyll Sylo come, vnto whome the people shal hark ¹¹ He shall bynde hys fole vnto the vyne, & hys asses colt vnto the vyne braunche, and shall wash hys garment in wyne and hys mantel in the bloud of grapes, ¹² hys eyes are roudier than wyne, & his teeth whitter then mylke. ¹³ Zabulon shal dwel in the hauen of the sea and in the porte of shyppes, and shal reache vnto Sydon. ¹⁴ Isachar is a stronge asse, he couched hym doune betwene two borders, ¹⁵ and sawe that rest was good and the land that it was pleasant, and bowed his shulder to beare, and became a seruaunte vnto trybute. ¹⁶ Dan shall iudge his people, as one of the trybes of Israel. ¹⁷ Dan shalbe a serpent in the way, and an edder in the path, & byte the horsse heles, so that hys ryder shal fal bacward. ¹⁸ After thy sauynge loke I Lord. ¹⁹ Gad, men of warre shal inuade him. And he shal turne them to flyght. ²⁰ Of Asser cometh fat breed, and he shal geue pleasures for a kynge. ²¹ Nepthalim is a swyft hynde, & geueth goodly wordes. ²² That florisshyng chylde Ioseph, that florysshyng chylde and goodly vnto the eye: the daughters ran vpon the wall. ²³ The shoters haue enuyed hym and chydd wt hym and hated hym, ²⁴ and yet hys bowe bode fast, & his armes & hys handes were strong, by the handes of the mightye god of Iacob: out of hym shall come an herde man, a stone in Israel. ²⁵ Thy fathers God shall helpe the, & the almyghtie shal blesse the wt blessynges from heauen aboue, and wyth blessynges of the water that lieth vnder, & with blessynges of the brestes and of the wombe. ²⁶ The blessynges of thy father were stronge: euen as the blessynges of my elders, after the desyre of the hyest in the worlde, & these blessynges shall fall on the head of Ioseph, and on the toppe of the head of hym that was separat from hys brethren. ²⁷ Beniamin is a raueshynge wolfe. In the mornyng he shal deuoure hys praye, and at nyght he shal deuyde his spoyle.

¹⁴ These be the heades of theyr fathers houses. The children of Ruben the eldest sonne of Israell are these: Hanoh, Pallu, Hezron, Charmy, these be the housholders of Ruben. ¹⁵ The children of Simeon are these: Gemuel, Iamin, Ohad, Iachyn, Zoher, & Saule the sonne of a Cananityshe wyfe: These are the kynreds of Symeon. ¹⁶ These are the names of the chyldren of Leuy in their generations: Gerson, Kahath, and Merary. And Leuy lyued an hundred and .xxxvij. yere.

²³ And this is the numbre of the heades prepared to battel, that came to Dauid to Hebron, to turne the kyngdom of Saul to hym, accordinge to the mouth of the Lord. ²⁴ The chyldren of Iuda that bare shylde & sperre were sixe thousand and eight hundred trymmed to warre. ²⁵ Of the chyldren of Symeon, men of myght to warre, seuen thousand and one hundred. ²⁶ And of the chyldren of Leui were foure thousande and sixe hundred. ²⁷ And Iehoiada was the chefe of them of Aaron, and with him thre thousand and seuen hundred. ²⁸ And Zadock a younge man of greate power had hys fathers housholde wyth Capitaynes .xxij. ²⁹ And of the chyldren of Beniamin the brethren of Saul, were thre thousand. And a great parte of them dyd yet folowe the house of Saul. ³⁰ And of the chyldren of Ephraim, were .xx. thousand and eight hundred, men of myghte and named men in the housholdes of their fathers. ³¹ And of the halfe trybe of Manasseh .xviij. thousande, whyche were apoynted by name to go to make Dauid Kynge. ³² And of the chyldren of Isacar, whyche were men that had vnderstandynge in the ryght tyme to knowe what Israel ought to do: The heedes of them were two hundred, and all theyr brethren at theyr wyll. ³³ And of Zabulon that went out wyth the Hoste and proceded in the araye to battell wyth all maner of wepons of warre, fyftye thousande that kepte in order wyth one accorde. ³⁴ And of Nephthali a thousande Capitaynes, and with them with shylde and speare .xxxvij. thousande. ³⁵ And of Dan prepared to battell, were .xxviij. thousande and .vi. hundred. ³⁶ And of Asser that went out wyth the Hoste to make battell, fourtie thousand. ³⁷ And of the other syde Iordan, of the Rubenites, Gaddites and of the halfe trybe of Manasseh wyth all manner of instrumentes of warre an hundred and twentie thousand. ³⁸ All these beynge men of warre able to ordre the araye, came to Hebron with pure herte, to make Dauid Kynge vpon all Israel. And therto all the rest of Israel was of one accorde to make Dauid Kynge. ³⁹ And there they were with Dauid thre dayes eatynge & drynckyng: for theyr brethren prepared for them. ⁴⁰ Moreouer they that were nye to them, as Isacar, Zabulon and Nephthali brought bredde on Asses, Camels, mules and oxen, & meate: floure, figges, reasyngs, wyne, oyle, oxen, and shepe aboundantlye. For there was myrthe in Israel.

¹⁶ And the rulers ouer the trybes of Israel were these. Amonge the Rubenites, was Eliezer the sonne of Zechri. Amonge the Symeonites, was Saphatiah the sonne of Maacah. ¹⁷ Among the Leuites: Hasabiah the sonne of Kamuel. Among the Haromites: Zadock. ¹⁸ In Iuda. Eliu of the brethren of Dauid. In Isacar: Amri the sonne of Michael. ¹⁹ In Zabulon: Iesmaiah the sonne of Abdiah. In Nephthalie: Ierimoth the sonne of Azriel. ²⁰ Amonge the chyldren of Ephraim: Hosea the sonne of Ozaiah. In the halfe tribe of Manasseh: Ioel the sonne of Phadaiah. ²¹ Of the halfe trybe of Manasseh in Galaad: Iado the sonne of Zachariah. In Beniamin: Iaasiel the sonne of Abner. ²² In Dan: Azariel the sonne of Ieroham. These are the Lordes in the trybes of Israel.

⁴ And I heard the numbre of them whyche were sealed, and there were sealed an .C. and .xliiij.M. of all tribes of the chyldren of Israell. ⁵ Of the trybe of Iuda were sealed .xij.M. Of the trybe of Ruben were sealed .xij.M. of the trybe of Gad were sealed .xij.M. ⁶ Of the trybe of Asser were sealed .xij. thousand. Of the trybe of Neptalim were sealed twelue thousande. Of the Trybe of Manasses were sealed twelue thousand. ⁷ Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelue thousand. Of the tribe of Leuy were sealed .xij. thousande. Of the tribe of Isacar were sealed .xij.M. ⁸ Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelue thousand. Of the tribe of Ioseph were sealed twelue thousand. Of the tribe of Beniamin were sealed twelue thousande.

²² And it chaunced as Israel dwelt in that lande, that Ruben went & laye wyth Bilha hys fathers concubyne, and it came to Israels eare. The sonnes of Iacob were .xij. in numbre. ²³ The sonnes of Lea. Ruben Iacobs eldest sonne, and Simeon, Leui, Iuda, Isachar, & Zabulon.

²⁰ The fourth: a Turcas, Onix and Iaspis. And they shalbe set in golde in their inclosers,

²⁶ Al the soules that came wyth Iacob in to Egypte whyche came oute of hys loyns (besyde hys sonnes wyfes) were al together .lx. and .vi. soules. ²⁷ And the sonnes of Ioseph, whiche were borne hym in Egypte were two soules: So that al the soules of the house of Iacob whyche came in to Egypte are .lxx.

²⁰ And God therfore dealte wel to the mydwyues. And the people multiplyed and waxed very myghty.

²² Thy fathers went downe into Egypt wt .lxx. soules & nowe the Lord thy God hath made the as the starres of heauen in multitude.

³⁰ And Gedeon had .lxx. sonnes of hys bodye begotten, for he had many wyues.

²⁴ And Ioseph sayd vnto his brethren: I dye: And God wyl suerlye vyset you & brynge you out of thys lande, vnto the lande whych he sware vnto Abraham, Isaac and Iacob.

²⁶ And so Ioseph dyed, when he was an hundred & .x. yere olde. And they enbawmed him & put him in a chest in Egypte.

¹⁴ Then sente Ioseph and caused hys father to be brought and all his kyn, thre score and .xv. soules. ¹⁵ And Iacob descended into Egypte, and dyed both he and our fathers, ¹⁶ and were translated into Sichem, and were put in the sepulcher, that Abraham bought for money of the sonnes of Emor, at Sichem.

²⁰ And God said: let the water bryng forth creatures that moue and haue lyfe, & foules for to flye ouer the erth vnder the fyrmament of heauen.

²⁸ And God blessed them, & God sayde vnto them: Growe and multiplye & fyl the erth, & subdue it, & haue dominion ouer the fyshes of the sea, and ouer the foules of the ayre, and ouer al the beastes that moue on the erth.

¹ And God blessed Noe & hys sonnes, and said vnto them: Encreace & multiply and fyll the earth.

² And I wyll make of the a myghty people, and wyll blesse the, and make thy name greate, that thou maiste be a blessynge.

¹⁶ And I wyll make thy sede, as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can numbre the duste of the earth, then shall thy sede also be numbred.

⁵ And he brought him out of the dores, & sayd: loke vp vnto heauen, & tel the stars, if thou be able to numbre them. And said vnto hym: Euen so shal thy sede be.

⁴ I am, beholde my testament is wt the, that thou shalt be a father of many nacions. ⁵ Therfore, shalt thou no more be called Abram, but thy name shalbe Abraham: for a father of many nacions haue I made the, ⁶ and I wyll multyplye the excedyngly, and wyll make nacions of the: yea & kynges shal sprynge out of the.

¹⁶ For I wyl blesse her and geue the a sonne of her & wyl blesse her: so that people, yea & kynges of people shal sprynge of her.

¹⁷ that I wyll blesse the & multiplie thy seed as the starres of heauen and as the sande vpon the sea syde. And thy seed shall possesse the gates of hys enymies.

⁴ & wyl multiply thy sede as the stars of heauen, & will gyue vnto thy sede al these contries. And thorow thi sede shal all the nacions of the earth be blessed,

³ And God almyghty blesse the, encrease the, and multiply the that thou mayst be a numbre of people, ⁴ and giue the the blessing of Abraham: both to the, and to thy sede with the, that thou mayst possesse the Lande (wherein thou arte a straunger) whych God gaue vnto Abraham

¹⁴ And thy sede shal be as the dust of the earth: and thou shalt spreade abrode: weste, easte, north, and south. And thorowe the and thy sede shal al the kynreds of the earth be blessed.

¹¹ And God sayd vnto hym: I am God almighty, growe & multiplye: for people and a multitude of people shall sprynge of the, yea & kinges shal come out of thy loynes.

³ And he sayde: I am the myghtie God of thy father, feare not to goo doune in to Egypte. For I wyl make of the a great people.

²⁷ And Israel dwelt in Egypte: euen in the countre of Gosan. And they had their possessions therin, and they grewe and multiplyed exceadynglye.

⁴ and sayd vnto me: beholde, I wyl make the growe and wyl multiplye the, and wyll make a great nombre of people of the, and wyl geue this lande vnto the & vnto thy seed after the vnto an euerlastyng possession.

¹⁶ And the augell which hath delyuered me from al euyll, blesse these laddes: that they may be called after my name, and after my father Abraham and Isaac, and that they may growe & multiplye vpon the erth.

³⁷ Thus toke the children of Israel their yourneye from Rameses to Suchoth .vi. hundred thousand men of foote, besyde chyldren.

⁵ And thou shalt answere and saye before the Lord thy God: The Syrians wolde haue destroied my father, and he went doune into Egypte and soiourned there with a fewe folcke and grewe there vnto a nacyon greate, mightie and ful of people.

²³ And theyr chyldren multyplyedst thou as the starres of heauen, and broughtest them into the lande whereof thou haddest spoken vnto their fathers, that they shulde go into it, and haue it in possessyon.

²⁴ But he increased hys people exceadyngly and made them stronger then their enemyes.

¹⁷ When the tyme of the promys drue nye, (which God had sworne to Abraham) the people grew and multiplied in Egypte, ¹⁸ tyll another kyng arose, whiche knew not of Ioseph.

¹⁸ Yea I was weerye of al my laboure, which I had taken vnder the Sunne, because I shoulde be fayne to leaue them vnto another man, that commeth after me ¹⁹ for who knoweth, whether he shalbe a wyse man or afole? And yet shall he be lorde of al my laboures, which I wyth suche wysdome haue taken vnder the Sunne. Is not this a vayne thynge.

¹⁵ And in the cytye there was founde a poore man (but he was wyse) which with hys wisdome deliuered the cytye: yet was there no body, that had any respect vnto such a symple man.

¹⁸ tyll another kyng arose, whiche knew not of Ioseph.

⁴ And Moab sayed vnto the Elders of Madian, nowe shall thys companye lycke vp all that are rounde aboute vs, as an oxe lycketh vp the grasses of the fyeld. And Balac the sonne of Ziphor was Kynge of the Moabites at that tyme. ⁵ And he sent menssengers vnto Balam the sonne of Beor, the interpreter which dwelte vpon the riuer of the lande of the children of hys folke, to call hym saying: beholde, there is a people come out of Egypte which couereth the face of the earth and lyeth euen hard by me.

² As for the folyshe man, displeasure kylleth hym, and anger slayeth the ignoraunt.

²⁴ But he increased hys people exceadyngly and made them stronger then their enemyes. ²⁵ Whose hert turned so that they hated his people: and dealt vntruly wt hys seruauntes.

²⁸ The increase and prosperite of the commens is the Kynges honoure, but the decaye of the people is the confusion of the Prince.

⁴ Wrath is a cruel thing, and furyousnesse is a verye tempeste: yea who is able to abyde enuye?

⁴ Agayn, I sawe that all trauayle and diligence of labour was hated of euery man. This is also a vayn thinge, and a vexacion of mynde.

³ For we our selues also in tymes paste, vnwyse, dysobedient, deceyued, in daunger to lustes, and to dyuers maners of voluptuousnes, lyuyng in malycyousnes and enuye, ful of hate, hatyng one another.

¹⁴ But, yf ye haue bitter enuyinge and strife in youre hertes, reioyce not: neyther be lyars agaynste the trueth. ¹⁵ Thys wysedome descendeth not from aboue: but is earthye, & naturall, and deuelyshe: ¹⁶ For where enuiynge and stryfe is there is vnstablenes and all maner of euyll workes.

⁵ Eyther do ye thynke that the scrypture sayeth in vayne. The spyryte that dwelleth in you lusteth euen contrarye to enuye:

⁶ Come nowe a feloweshyp and curse me thys people. For they are to myghty for me, so peraduenture I might be able to smite them & to dryue them out of the Land. For I wot that whom thou blessest shalbe blessed, and whom thou cursest shalbe cursed.

¹³ whyche compasseth the wyse in theyr owne craftynesse, and ouerthroweth the councell of the wycked?

² While the vngodlye hath the ouer hand, the pore must suffer persecutyon. O that they were taken in the ymagynacion which they go aboute.

³ They ymagyn craftely agaynst thy people, and take counsayll agaynste thy secrete ones. ⁴ Come (saye they) let vs rote them out from amonge the people, that the name of Israell maye be put out of remembraunce.

²⁵ Whose hert turned so that they hated his people: and dealt vntruly wt hys seruauntes.

¹¹ if they entise the, & say: come with vs, let vs leye wayte for bloud, and lurke preuely for the innocent without a cause:

²⁵ Ther is away that men thinke to be right but the ende thereof leadeth vnto death.

³⁰ There is no wysdome ther is no vnderstandyng, there is no councell agaynste the Lorde.

¹⁹ The same dealt subtely wyth oure kynred, & euyll intreated oure fathers, and made them to caste out theyr yonge chyldren, that they should not remayne aliue.

¹² When daye was come, certayne of the Iewes gathered them selues together, & made a vowe, saiynge, that they woulde neyther eate nor drynke, tyll they had kylled Paul.

¹⁸ Let no man deceyue hym selfe. Yf anye man seme, wyse amonge you, let hym be a fole in thys worlde that he maye be wyse. ¹⁹ For the wysdome of this worlde is folyshnes wyth God. For it is wrytten: he compaseth the wyse in theyr craftynes. ²⁰ And agayne, God knoweth the thoughtes of the wyse that they be vayne.

¹⁵ Thys wysedome descendeth not from aboue: but is earthye, & naturall, and deuelyshe: ¹⁶ For where enuiynge and stryfe is there is vnstablenes and all maner of euyll workes. ¹⁷ But the wysedome that is from aboue, is fyrste pure, then peasable, gentle, and easye to be entreated, full of mercye & good frutes, wythoute iudgynge, and wythout simulacyon: ¹⁸ yea, & the frute of ryghtuousnes is sowen in peace, of them that maintayne peace.

¹³ And he sayd vnto Abram: know this of a surety that thy sede shall be a stranger in a lande that perteyneth not vnto them. And they shall make bondmen of them & entreate them euell .iiij. hundred yeares.

¹¹ And Ioseph prepared dwellinges for his father and his brethren, & gaue them possessions in the land of Egypte, in the best of the lande: euen in the lande of Rameses, as Pharao commaunded.

¹¹ And it happened in those daies when Moses was waxte great, that he went out vnto hys brethren and loked on theyr burdens, & spyed an Egiptian smytynge one of his brethren an Ebrue.

⁷ Then the Lorde sayed: I haue surelye sene the trouble of mi people which ar in Egipt, and haue heard their cry whyche they haue of their taskemasters. For I know theyr sorow,

⁴ Then sayed the kynge of Egypte vnto them: wherefor do ye Moses and Aaron let the people from their worke, get you vnto your labour. ⁵ And Pharao sayd furthermore: behold, there is much peaple in the lande, and ye make them playe and let theyr worcke stand. ⁶ And Pharao commaunded the same day vnto the taskemasters ouer the people, & vnto the officers saying:

¹⁵ Then went the offycers of the chyldren of Israel & complayned vnto Pharao saynge: wherfore dealest thou thus with thy seruantes?

⁶ Wherfore say vnto the chyldren of Israel I am the Lord, & wyll bryng you out frome vnder the burdens of the Egyptians, & wyl ryd you out of theyr bondage, and wil delyuer you with a stretched out arme and with great iudgements. ⁷ And I wyl take you for my people and wil be to you a God. And ye shall know that I am the Lorde your God, whyche bryng you out from vnder the burdens of the Egyptians.

¹⁵ how our fathers went downe into Egypt, and how we haue dwelt in Egypt a longe tyme, and how the Egypcians vexed both vs and our fathers.

⁶ And the Egypcians vexed vs and troubled vs, & laded vs with cruel bondage.

¹⁹ and all the store cities that Salomon had, & cyties for hys charettes, & cytyes for his horsemen & all that hys luste was to buylde in Ierusalem and Lybanon, and in all the lande of hys Kyngdome.

⁴ And he buylte Thadmor in the wyldernesse and all the store cytyes whiche he buylte in Hemath.

¹³ If so be that ye lye amonge the pales, the doues fethers shalbe couered with syluer, & her wynges of the colour of golde.

⁶ When he eased hys shoulder from the burthen, and when hys handes were deliuered from the pottes.

¹³ What tyme as they wente from one nacyon to another, from one kyngedome to another.

⁹ And he sayed vnto hys folke: beholde, the people of the chyldren of Israell are moo and myghtyer then wee.

¹⁹ The Phariseis therfore sayed amonge them selues: perceyue ye howe we preuayle nothing? beholde the worlde goeth awaye after hym.

² taking it greuouslye that they taughte the people and preached in Iesus the resurreccion frome deathe. ³ And layed handes on them, and putte them in holde vntyll the nexte daie, for it was nowe euen tyde. ⁴ Howe be it, manye of them which hearde the wordes, beleued: and the numbre of the men was about fyue thousande.

²⁸ saiynge: dyd not we straytely commaunde you, that ye shoulde not teach in this name. And behold ye haue fylled Hierusalem with your doctrine, and ye intended to brynge this mannes bloude vpon vs. ²⁹ Peter and the other Apostles aunswered & saied. We ought more to obey God, then men. ³⁰ The God of our father raysed vp Iesus whom ye slewe and hanged on tree. ³¹ Hym hath God lyfte vp with his ryght hand to be a ruler and a sauiour, for to geue repentaunce to Israell and forgeuenes of synnes? ³² And we are hys recordes concerninge these thinges, & also the holy ghost, whom God hath geuen to them that obey him. ³³ When they heard that they claue a sunder, & sought meanes to slea them.

²⁸ For we knowe that all thynges worke for the beste vnto them that loue God, whyche also are called of purpose.

⁶ For whom the Lord loueth, hym he chasteneth: yea, and he scourgeth euerye sonne that he receyueth. ⁷ Yf ye endure chastenynge, God offereth hym selfe vnto you as vnto sonnes. What sonne is that whom the father chasteneth not? ⁸ Yf ye be not vnder correccyon (whereof all are partakers) then are ye bastardes and not sonnes. ⁹ Moreouer seynge we had fathers of oure fleshe whiche corrected vs, and we gaue them reuerence: shoulde we not muche rather be in subieccyon vnto the father of spyrytuall gyftes, that we myght lyue? ¹⁰ And they verely for a few dayes, nurtered vs after their owne pleasure, but he learneth vs vnto that whiche is profytable that we myght receyue of hys holynes. ¹¹ No maner chastisynge for the presente tyme semeth to be ioyeous, but greuous: neuerthelesse afterwarde, it bryngeth the quyet frute of ryghtuousnes vnto them whiche are therein exercysed.

²⁰ For the Lorde toke you and brought you out of the, yron furnace of Egipt, to be vnto him a people of enheritaunce, as it is come to passe thys daye.

¹³ And the Egyptians helde the chyldren of Israell in bondage wythoute mercye,

²³ And she bare yet an other sonne, whom he called Elieser, sayinge: the God of my father is myne helper, and hath ryd me out of the handes of Pharao. And it chaunced in processe of tyme, that the kynge of Egypt dyed, and the chyldren of Israel syghed by the reason of labour and cried.

⁷ se that ye giue the people no more strawe to make brycke withall, as ye dyd in time passed: let them go and gather them strawe them selues, ⁸ and the numbre of brycke whyche they were wonte to make in tymes passed, laye vnto their charges also, & minish nothing therof. For they be idle and therfore cry saying: let vs goo and do sacrifyce vnto our God. ⁹ They muste haue more worcke layed vpon them, that they maye laboure therein, and then wyll they not turne them selues to false wordes. ¹⁰ Then wente the taskemasters of the people and the officers oute and told the people sayinge: Thus sayth Pharao: ¹¹ I wyll gyue you no more strawe, but go your selues and gather you strawe wher you can fynd it, yet shall none of your labour be minished. ¹² Then the people scatered abrode thoroweout all the land of Egypt for ta gather them stubble to be in stede of strawe. ¹³ And the taskemasters hasted them forwarde saying: fulfyl your worcke day by day, euen as when strawe was geuen you. ¹⁴ And the officers of the children of Israel whych Pharaos taskemasters had set ouer theym, were beaten. And it was sayd vnto them: wherfore haue you not fulfilled your taske in making brycke both yesterdaye and to daye, as well as in tymes past. ¹⁵ Then went the offycers of the chyldren of Israel & complayned vnto Pharao saynge: wherfore dealest thou thus with thy seruantes? ¹⁶ there is no strawe geuen vnto thy seruauntes, and yet they say vnto vs make bryke. And loo, thy seruauntes are beaten, and thy people is fowle intreated. ¹⁷ And he aunswered: idle are ye idle, and therefore ye say: let vs goo and do Sacrifice vnto the Lorde. ¹⁸ Go therefore and worcke, for there shall no strawe be geuen you, & yet se that ye delyuer the whole tale of brycke. ¹⁹ When the officers of the children of Israel sawe them selues in shrode case (in that he said ye shall minysh nothyng of your dayly makyng of brycke) ²⁰ then they mette Moses and Aaron standinge in theyr way as they came out from Pharao, ²¹ and sayd vnto them. The Lorde loke vnto you and iudge, for ye haue made the fauour of vs stynke in the syght of Pharao, and of his seruauntes, and haue put a swerd into their handes to slea vs.

⁹ And Moses told the children of Israell euen so: But they harkened not vnto Moyses for anguyshe of spirite and for cruell bondage.

² I am the Lorde thy God, which haue brought the out of the lande of Egipte and out of the house of bondage.

⁴³ Se therefore that thou raygne not ouer hym cruelly, but feare thy God.

⁴⁶ And ye shall possesse them & gyue them vnto youre chyldren after you, to possesse them foreuer: and they shal be your bondmen. But ouer your brethren the children of Israel, ye shal not raygne one ouer another cruelly.

⁵³ & shalbe with him yere by yere as an hyred seruaunte & the other shall not raygne cruellye ouer hym in thy syghte.

²⁰ But she said vnto them, calle me not Noemi: call me Mara, for the almightye hath made me very bitter.

⁶ Whyche when he is wrothe, smyteth the people with durable strokes, and in his wonders he persecuteth them, and tameth them continually.

²³ & wyll put it in theyr hande that trouble the: whiche haue spoken to thy soule: stoupe doune, that we maye go ouer the: make thy body eauen with the grounde, and as the strete to go vpon.

⁵ And nowe what profyt is it to me (sayeth the Lorde) that my people is frely caryed awaye, & brought into heuynes by theyr rulers, and my name euer styll blasphemed? saith the Lorde.

⁶ But this fastyng pleaseth not me, til the tyme be thou louse him out of bondage, that is in thy daunger: that thou breake the ooth of wicked barginnes, that thou let the oppressed go fre and take from them all maner of burthens.

³³ Thus sayth the Lorde of hostes: The chyldren of Israell & Iuda suffre violence together. Al they that haue them in captyuyte, kepe them faste, and wyll not let them go: ³⁴ but theyr auenger & redemer is myghtye, whose name is the Lorde of hostes: he shal maintayne theyr cause, he shall make the lande shake, and iudge them that dwell therein, one wyth another.

³ ye eate the flesh of my people, and slay of their skynne: ye breake their bones, ye choppe them in peces as it were in to a cauldron, and as flesh into a pot.

¹⁴ Drawe water nowe agaynst thou be beseged, make vp thy strong holdes, go into the claye, tempre the morter, make stronge bricke,

³⁴ I haue perfectly sene the affliction of the people, which is in Egipt and I haue heard their groninge, & am come doune to deliuer them. And nowe come, and I wyl sende the into Egypte.

²² Then Pharao charged al his people saying Al the men children that are borne, cast into the ryuer, and saue the mayd children alyue.

³⁸ But when the husbandmen sawe the sonne, they sayde amonge them selues. Thys is the heyre: come let vs kyll hym, and let vs take hys enheritaunce to oure selues.

⁴ and hys tayle drewe the thyrde parte of the starres, and cast them to the earth. And the dragon stode before the woman, whyche was redye to be delyuered, for to deuoure her chyld assone as it were borne.

¹¹ And Abraham answered: I thought that peraduenture the feare of God was not in thys place, & that they shulde sley me for my wyfes sake:

¹⁸ And Ioseph said vnto them the thyrd day: Thys do and lyue, for I feare God.

²¹ And bycause the mydwyues feared God, he made them houses.

¹⁵ For the olde capytaynes that were before me, had bene chargeable vnto the people, and had taken of them bread and wyne, and fourtye sycles of syluer: yea and theyr seruauntes had oppressed the people. But so dyd not I, and that because of the feare of God.

¹⁹ O howe greate and manyfolde is thy good, whyche thou haste hyd for them that feare the? O what thinges bringest thou to passe for them, that put their truste in the, euen before the sonnes of men?

¹³ With me is the feare of the Lorde, and the eschuyng of euell. As for pryde, dysdayne, & euell waye, & a mouth that speaketh wicked thinges, I vtterly abhorre them.

⁶ With louyng mercye and fayethfulnesse synnes be forgeuen, and who so feareth the Lorde, he eschueth euell.

¹¹ Delyuer them that go into death, and are led away to be slayne, & be not negligent therin. ¹² If thou wylt saye: I knewe not of it. Thinkest thou that he which made the herts, doth not consider it? & that he which regardeth thy soule, seyth it not? Shall not he recompence euerye man accordynge to his workes?

¹² But thoughe an euell persone offende an hundred tymes, and haue a longe life: yet am I sure, that it shall go well wyth them that feare God, because they haue hym before their eyes.

¹³ Let vs heare the conclusion of all thinges Feare God, and kepe his commaundementes, For that toucheth al men:

¹⁶ Sidrach, Misach and Abednago aunswered the kynge, and sayde: O Nabuchodonosor, we oughte not to consente vnto the in this matter, for why: ¹⁷ oure GOD whome we serue, is able to kepe vs from the hote burnynge ouen (O kynge) and can right well delyuer vs oute of thy handes. ¹⁸ And thoughe he wyll not, yet shalte thou knowe (O kynge) that we wil not serue thy Goddes, nor do reuerence to the Image, whiche thou haste set vp.

¹³ Then answered they, and sayde vnto the kynge: Daniel one of the presoners of Iuda, O kynge, regardeth neyther the, nor thy statute, that thou hast made, but maketh his peticion thre tymes a day.

¹¹ Ephraim is oppressed, and can haue no right of the lawe: for why? they folowe the doctrynes of men.

¹⁶ Ye kepe the ordynaunces of Amri, & all the customes of the house of Ahab: ye folowe their pleasures, therfore wyll I make the waste, & cause thy inhabyters to be abhorred, O my people: and thus shalt thou beare thyne owne shame.

²⁸ And feare ye not them which kil the body, and be not able to kill the soule. But rather feare him, which is able to destroy both soule & body into hell.

⁵ But I wil shew you whom ye shall feare. Feare hym whiche after he hath kylled, hath power to caste into hell. Yea I saye vnto you, hym feare.

¹⁸ And they called them and commaunded them that in no wyse they should speake or teache in the name of Iesu. ¹⁹ But Peter and Iohn aunswered to them and sayd: whether it be ryght in the syght of God to obey you more then God, iudge ye. ²⁰ For we can not. But speake that whiche we haue sene and heard.

²⁹ Peter and the other Apostles aunswered & saied. We ought more to obey God, then men.

²⁸ Then Absalom commaunded hys younge men sayinge: marke when Amnons herte is mery wyth wyne, & when I byd you smyte Amnon then kyll him: feare not, for it is I that byd you, be bolde therfore, & playe the lustye bloudes.

⁴ Lyke as when a kynge geueth a charge, hys commaundemente is myghtye: Euen so who maye saye vnto hym what doest thou?

⁴ And the woman toke the two men & hyd them. And sayde: in deade there came men vnto me but I wote not whence they were. ⁵ And about the tyme of the shuttynge of the gate when it was darcke, they went out, whether they wente I wote not: but folowe after them quickly, & ye shal take them. ⁶ And she brought them vp vpon the roofe of the house, & hydde them vnder flaxe (yet in the stalckes) which she had lyinge abroade vpon the roofe. ⁷ And the men pursued after them, the waye to Iordan euen vnto the passage, and as sone as they which pursued after them were gone out, thei shutte the gates immediatlye. ⁸ And or euer they were a slepe, she came vp vnto them vpon the roofe, ⁹ and sayde vnto the men. I knowe that the Lorde hath geuen you the lande, bothe because that the feare of you is fallen vpon vs, and because that the enhabyters of the lande faynt at youre commyng. ¹⁰ For we haue hearde how the Lorde dried vp the water of the red sea before you, when you came out of Egypte, & what you dyd vnto the two kinges of the Amorytes on the other syde Iordan Sehon, and Og, which ye vtterlye destroyed. ¹¹ And as sone as we had hearde these thynges, our hertes dyd faynte. And there remayned no more courage in any man for feare of youre commynge. For the Lorde your God, he is the GOD in heauen aboue: and on the earth beneth. ¹² Now therfore sweare vnto me by the Lorde because I haue shewed you mercye, that ye shall also shewe mercye vnto my fathers house, and geue me a true token. ¹³ And that ye shall saue a lyue, boeth my father, and my mother, my brethren, and my systers, and all that pertayne vnto them. And that ye shall delyuer oure soules from death. ¹⁴ And the men aunswered her: our lyues for you to dye, yf ye vtter not thys oure communicacyon. And so when the Lorde hath geuen vs the lande, we wyll deale mercyfully and truely wyth the. ¹⁵ And then she let them doune wyth a coorde thorowe a wyndowe. For her house stode in the toune wall. And she dwelte in the towne wall. ¹⁶ And she sayde vnto them: get you into the mountaynes, least the followers mete you, and hyde yourselues there .iij. dayes, vntyll the pursuars be returned, & then maye ye go youre wayes. ¹⁷ And the men sayde vnto her: we will be blamelesse of thy othe, which thou hast made vs sweare. ¹⁸ Beholde, when we come into the land, thou shalt bynde thys purple threden coorde in the wyndowe, which thou lettest vs doune by. And thou shalte brynge thy father, thy mother, thy brethren, and all thy fathers housholde, euen into the house to the. ¹⁹ And then whosoeuer go oute at the dores of thy house, into the strete, hys bloud shalbe vpon hys owne head, and we giltlesse. And whosoeuer shalbe wyth the in the house, hys bloude be on oure heades yf any mannes hande be vpon hym: ²⁰ And euen so yf thou vtter these oure wordes, we wylbe quyte of thy othe which thou haste made vs sweare. ²¹ And she sayde accordyng vnto your wordes so be it: and so sent them away, and they departed. And she bounde the purple coorde in the wyndowe. ²² And they departed, and gotte them into the mountaynes, and there aboade thre dayes vntyll the pursuars were returned. And the pursuars sought thorowout al the waye, & found them not. ²³ And the two men returned & descended from the mountayn, and passed ouer, and came to Iosua the sonne of Nun, and tolde hym all that had chaunged them. ²⁴ And they sayde vnto Iosua: the Lorde hathe delyuered into oure handes all the lande, for all the inhabyters of the countreye faynt for feare of vs.

² And Dauid saide to Ahymelech the preast: the kinge hath commaunded me to do a certeyne thynge and sayde vnto me, let no man knowe where aboute I sende and what I haue commaunded the to do. And therefore I haue apoynted my seruauntes to suche and suche places.

¹⁹ And the wyfe toke and spred a couerlet on the toppe of the wel and strawed theron steaped barleye to drie. And the thinge was not spyed. ²⁰ And when Absaloms seruauntes came to the wyfe to the house and asked where one Ahimaaz and Ionathas were, the wyfe sayde vnto them: they be gone ouer the lyttel brocke of water. And when they had sought them, & coulde not fynde them, then they returned to Ierusalem.

⁷ the chyldren of Israell grewe, encreased multiplied, & waxed exceadyng myghtye: so that the land was full of them.

¹² But the more they vexed theym, the more they multiplyed and grew: so that they abhorred the chyldren of Israell.

¹ To the chaunter, a Psalme of Dauid. Blessed is he, that consydereth the poore: the Lord shal deliuer him in the tyme of trouble. ² The Lord shal preserue him & kepe him aliue: he shall make him to prospere vpon earth, and shall not delyuer him into the wyl of his enemeyes.

⁵ For thou, O Lord, hast harde my desyres, thou hast geuen an heretage vnto those that feare thy name.

⁹ For hys saluacyon is nye them that feare hym so, that glory shall dwell in oure lande.

¹¹ For loke how hye the heauen is in comparison of the earth, so greate is his mercy also towarde them that feare hym.

⁵ He geueth meat vnto them, that feare him he is euer myndfull of hys couenaunte.

¹⁹ He fulfilleth the desire of them that feare him, he heareth their crie, and helpeth them.

¹⁸ The labour of the vngodly prospereth not, but he that soweth righteousnes, shal receyue a sure rewarde.

¹⁷ He that hath pittie vppon the poore, lendeth vnto the Lord: & loke what he layeth oute, it shalbe payed hym agayn.

¹⁰ Then shall they saye. O happye are the godly, for they maye enioye the frutes of theyr studyes.

⁴² And whosoeuer shall geue vnto one of these lytle ones to drinke, a cuppe of colde water only, in the name of a discypell: I tell you of a truthe, he shall not lose his rewarde.

⁴⁰ And the kinge shall aunswere and saye vnto theym: verelye I saye vnto you: in as much as ye haue done it to one of the least of these my brethren, ye haue done it vnto me.

⁵⁰ And his mercy is on them that feare hym thorowe out all generacions.

¹⁰ For God is not vnryghtuous that he should forget your worke and laboure that procedeth of loue, which loue you shewed in hys name, whiche haue mynystred vnto the saynctes, & yet mynyster.

³⁵ And I wyl stere me vp a faythful priest that shal do as it is in myne hert & in my mynd. And I wyl buylde him a sure house. And he shall walke before myne anoynted for euer.

²⁸ Forgeue the trespace of thine handmaide that the Lorde may make my lord a suer house, because my Lorde fyghteth the battelles of the Lorde, and there coulde none euill be founde in the in all thy lyfe.

¹¹ & sence the tyme I commaunded Iudges to be ouer my people Israel, & I wyll geue the reste from all thyne enemyes. And the Lorde telleth the, that he wyl buylde the an housholde. ¹² And when thy dayes be fulfilled and thou layde to rest wyth thy fathers, then I wyll set vp thy sede after the, which shall proceade out of thy bodye, and will stablysh his kingdome. ¹³ And he shal buylde an house for my name, & I wyll stablyshe the seate of hys kyngdome for euer:

²⁷ For thou Lorde of Hostes God of Israel haste tolde in the eare of thy seruaunt saying: I wyll buylde the an house. And therfor hath thy seruaunt founde in hys harte to pray this prayer vnto the. ²⁸ And nowe Lorde Iehouah thou arte the God, and thy wordes muste be true: for thou haste tolde thys goodnesse vnto thy seruaunte. ²⁹ And now go to, and blesse the housholde of thy seruaunte, that it maye contynue for euer before the. For thou Lorde Iehouah hast sayd that of thy blessyng the house of thy seruaunt shalbe blessed for euer.

²⁴ Now therfore as surely as the Lorde lyueth whyche hath stablyshed me and set me on the seate of Dauid my father, & which hath made me an house as he promysed me, Adoniah shall dye thys daye.

³⁸ And yf thou shalte herken vnto al that I commaunde the, & shalte walke in my wayes, & do that is ryght in my sight, that thou kepe myne ordynaunces & commaundementes as Dauid my seruaunt dyd: then wil I be with the & buyld the an house that shal continue, as I buylt for my seruaunt Dauid, & wil geue Israel vnto the.

³ Put thou thy trust in the Lorde, and be doyng good: so shalt thou dwel in the lande, & verely it shall fede the.

¹ The song of the steares. Except the Lord buylde the house, their laboure is but loste that buylde it. Except the Lord kepe the cytye, the watchman waketh but in vayne.

³ Lo, chyldren & the frute of the wombe are an heritage & gift, that commeth of the Lorde.

³ Thorow wysdome an house shalbe builded, & wt vnderstandyng shalbe set vp.

² Go vnto the house of the Rechabites, and cal them out, and brynge them to the house of the Lorde into some commodyous place, and geue them wyne to dryncke.

¹ And it fortuned at .ij. yeres ende that Pharao dreamed, & thought that he stode by a ryuers syde,

¹⁶ when ye do the offyce of a mydwyfe to the women of the Hebrues, and see in the byrthe tyme that it is a boye, kyl it. But if it be a mayed, lette it lyue.

¹⁹ And the Lorde spake vnto Moyses, saye vnto Aaron: take thy staffe and stretche oute thyne hande ouer the waters of Egypte ouer theyr streames, ryuers pondes, and all pooles of water, that they maye be bloude, and that there maye be bloude in all the land of Egypt: boeth in vessels of wodde, and also of stone. ²⁰ And Moyses and Aaron dyd euen as the Lord commaunded, And he lyft vp the staffe and smote the waters that were in the riuer in the syght of Pharao, & in the sight of hys seruauntes, & all the water that was in the riuer turned into bloud. ²¹ And the fish that was in the riuer died and the riuer stanke so that the Egyptians coulde not drinke of the water of the ryuer. And there was bloude thorow out al the land of Egypt.

¹⁶ For their fete runne to euel, & are hasty to shed bloud.

¹⁶ For they can not slepe, except they haue first done some myschefe: neither take they anye rest, except they haue fyrst done some harme

⁴ And the thyrde angel shed out his vial vpon the riuers & fountaines of waters & they turned to bloud. ⁵ And I heard an angel say: Lord which art & wast, thou art rightuous & holy, because thou hast geuen such iudgementes, ⁶ for they shed out the bloud of sainctes, & prophetes, & therfore hast thou geuen them bloud to drinke, for they are worthy.
