⁵⁷ and before the wyckednes came to lyght, thou wouldest not heare speake of thy sister Sodoma, vntill the tyme that the Sirians with all their townes, and the Philistines with all that lye rounde aboute them, brought the to shame & confusyon:

²² And his sonnes were Elam, Assur, Arphachsad, Lud & Aram. ²³ And the children of Aram were: Vr, Hul, Gether & Mas.

⁷ And he began hys parable and said: Balac the king of Moab hath fette me from Mesopotamia out of the mountaynes of the east, sayinge: come and curse me Iacob, come & defye me Israel.

⁵ Then Razin kyng of Syrya & Phakeh sonne of Romeliah Kynge of Israel came vp to Ierusalem to fyghte. And they beseged Ahaz, but coulde not ouercome hym. ⁶ At the same tyme Razin Kynge of Syrya broughte Ailath agayne to Syrya, & ryd the Iewes thence. And the Syryans went to Ailath, and dwelte therein vnto thys daye. ⁷ Then Ahaz sente messengers to Teglath Phalasar Kyng of Assyrya, saying: I am thy seruaunte and thy sonne, come & delyuer me oute of the hande of the kynge of Syrya, and out of the hande of the kynge of Israel which are rysen agaynst me.

⁵ Wherfore the Lorde his God delyuered hym into the hand of the kynge of the Siriens: which bet hym & caryed awaye a great multitude of his captiue in to Damascon. And therto he was delyuered into the hande of the kynge of Israel which slue of his a myghtye slaughter. ⁶ For Phakeh the sonne of Romeliah slue in Iuda an hundred and twentye thousand in one daye, & all fyghtynge men: & that because they had forsaken the Lorde God of theyr fathers.

¹⁸ And the Philistines inuaded the cities in the lowe countreye and the south of Iuda: and toke Bethsames, Aialon, Gaderoth and Socoh with the townes longynge therto, & Thimna with the townes of the same, & Gimso wyth her townes, and dwelt therin. ¹⁹ For the Lorde brought Iuda lowe, because of Ahaz kynge of Iuda which made Iuda naked and transgressed agaynst the Lorde. ²⁰ And Thiglath palneser kynge of Assur came vpon hym and beseged hym, but preuayled not agaynst him. ²¹ For Ahaz toke awaye out of the house of the Lorde and out of the kynges house and out of the Lordes houses, and gaue vnto the kyng of Assur, though yt holpe him not. ²² And therto in the very tyme of hys tribulacion dyd kynge Ahaz trespace yet moare agaynst the Lorde. ²³ For he offered vnto the Gods of them of Damsaco whiche bette hym & sayd. because the Gods of the Siriens healpe them, therfore will I offer to them, that they maye helpe me also. But they were his destruccion & the destruccion of all Israel.

²¹ This thou doest, whyle I holde my tonge and thynkest me to be euen suche one as thy self: but I wyll reproue the, and set my selfe agaynst the.

¹ It happened in the time of Ahaz the sonne of Ioatham, whiche was the sonne of Oziah kyng of Iuda: that Razin the kyng of Syria, and Phakeh the sonne of Romeliah, kynge of Israel wente vp towarde Ierusalem to besege it, but wanne it not.

²⁸ The same yeare that kynge Ahaz dyed, God threatened by Esay on thys maner:

²⁴ Considrest thou not what this people speaketh? Two kinredes (saye they) had the Lorde chosen, and those same two hath he cast awaie: for so farre is my people come, that they haue no hope to come together any more, and to be one people again.

³⁶ thus sayeth the Lorde God: For so much as thou hast spent thy moneye, and discouered thy shame, thorow thy whordome wyth all thy louers, and wyth all the Idols of thy abhominacions in the bloude of thy children, whom thou hast geuen them: ³⁷ Beholde therfore, I wyll gather together all thy louers, vnto whome thou hast made thy selfe comen: yea and all them whom thou fauourest, and euery one that thou hatest: and wil discouer thy shame before them, that they al maye se thy fylthines.

²⁴ Therfore sayeth the Lord God: For so muche as ye youre selues shew your offence, & haue opened your wickednesse, so that in all your worckes men may se youre synnes: yea in so muche (I say) that ye youre selues haue made mencyon thereof ye shalbe taken by vyolence.

¹⁸ her whordome and shame was dyscouered & sene: then my herte forsoke her, lyke as my herte was gone from her syster also. ¹⁹ Neuerthelesse she vsed her whordome euer the longer the more, and remembred the dayes of her youth, wherin she hath played the harlot in the lande of Egipte:

¹⁰ And nowe will I discouer her folyshenesse, euen in the syghte of her louers, and no man shal deliuer her oute of my handes.

¹ When I vndertake to make Israel whole, then the vngracyousnes of Ephraim and the wickednes of Samaria commeth to lyght: then go they aboute with lyes. At home, they be theues: & withoute they fall to robbinge.

⁵ Therfore iudge nothinge before the tyme vntill the Lorde come, who wyll lyghten thinges, that are hyd in darckenes, and open the counsels of the hertes. And then shall euery man haue praise of God.
