²⁶ Thy priestes breake my lawe, and defyle my Sanctuarye. They put no dyfference betwene the holy and vnholy, nether discerne betwene the cleane and vncleane: they turne their eyes from my Sabbothes, & I am vnhalowed among them.

¹ And Nadab and Abihu the Sonnes of Aaron toke eyther of theym hys censor, and putte fyre therin, and put cense vpon and brought straunge fyre before the Lord: which he commaunded them not, ² and ther went a fyre out from the Lord, and consumed them, & they dyed before the Lorde. ³ Then Moses sayed vnto Aaron: this is that the Lorde spake saying: I wyl be sanctified in them that come nye me, & before all the people I wil be glorified. And Aaron helde hys peace.

¹⁰ that ye may put difference betwene holy & vnholi, & betwene vncleane & cleane,

⁴⁷ that ye may put difference betwene vncleane & cleane, & betwene the beastes that are eaten and the beastes that are not eaten.

²⁵ that ye shulde put difference betwene cleane beastes and vncleane, and betwene vncleane foules and them that are cleane. Make not your soules therfore abhominable with beastes and foules, & with al maner thing that crepeth vpon the ground, whych I haue separated vnto you to holde them vncleane.

² byd Aaron & his sonnes that they absteyne from the halowed thinges of the chyldren of Israel, whyche they haue halowed vnto me, that they polute not my holy name: for I am the Lorde. ³ Saye vnto them: whosoeuer he be of all youre seed amonge youre generacion after you, that goeth vnto the halowed thynges whyche the chyldren of Israel shall haue halowed vnto the Lorde, hys vnclennes shalbe vpon hym: and that soule shall peryshe from oute of my syghte. I am the Lorde. ⁴ None of the seed of Aaron that is a leper or that hath a runnyng sore, shall eate of the halowed thynges vntyll he be cleane. And whosoeuer toucheth any vncleane soule or man whose seed runneth from him by night, ⁵ or whosoeuer toucheth any worme that is vncleane to hym, or man that is vncleane to hym, ⁶ whatsoeuer vnclennesse he hath: the same soule that hath any soche thyng, shalbe vncleane vntyll euen, and shall not eate of the halowed thynges vntyll he haue wasshed hys flesh wyth water. ⁷ And then when the sunne is doune he shalbe cleane and shall afterwarde eate of the halowed thynges: for they are hys fode. ⁸ Of a beast that dyeth alone or is rent wyth wylde beastes, he shall not eate, to defyle hym selfe therwyth: I am the Lorde. ⁹ But let them kepe therfore myne ordynaunce, lest they lade synne vpon them and dye therin when they haue defyled them selues: for I am the Lorde whych sanctyfye them. ¹⁰ There shall no straunger eate of the halowed thinges, nether a gest of the preastes, or an hyred seruaunte. ¹¹ But yf the preast bye any soule wyth money he may eate of it, and he also that is borne in hys house maye eate of hys bred. ¹² If the preastes doughter be maryed vnto a straunger, she maye not eate of the halowed heue offringes. ¹³ Notwithstandyng yf the preastes daughter be a widowe or deuorsed & haue no chyld but is returned vnto her fathers house agayne, she shall eate of her fathers bread as well as she dyd in her youth. But there shall no straunger eate therof. ¹⁴ If a man eate of the halowed thynges vnwyttyngly, he shal put the fyfte part there vnto, & make good vnto the preast the halowed thynge. ¹⁵ And let the preastes se, that they defyle not the halowed thynges of the chyldren of Israel whych they haue offered vnto the Lorde, ¹⁶ lest they lade them selues wyth mysdoynge and trespace in eatynge their halowed thynges, for I am the Lorde which halowe them. ¹⁷ And the lord spake vnto Moses sayinge: ¹⁸ speake vnto Aaron & his sonnes and vnto al the chyldren of Israel & say vnto them, whatsoeuer he be of the house of Israel or straunger in Israell that wyll offer hys offeryng: whatsoeuer vowe or frewyll offerynge it be whych they wyll offer vnto the Lorde for a burntofferyng ¹⁹ to reconcyle them selues, it must be a male without blemysh of the oxen, shepe or gootes, ²⁰ let them offer nothyng that is deformed for they shall gett no fauoure therwyth. ²¹ If a man wil offer a peace offryng vnto the Lord and separate a vowe or a frewyll offeryng of the oxen or the flocke, it must be wtout deformyte, that it may be accepted. There maye be no blemysh therin: ²² whether it be blynd, broken, wounded or haue a wen, or be maunge or scabbed, se that ye offre no suche vnto the Lord, nor put an offeryng of any such vpon the alter vnto the Lord. ²³ An oxe or a shepe that hath any membre out of proporcion, mayst thou offer for a frewyllofferyng: but in a vowe it shall not be accepted. ²⁴ Thou shalt not offer vnto the lord that whych is broosed, broken, plucked out or cutt awaye, nether shalt make any soche in youre lande, ²⁵ nether of a straungers hand shall ye offer an offeryng to your GOD of any soch. For they marre all in that they haue deformities in them, and therfore can not be accepted for you. ²⁶ And the Lord spake vnto Moses saying: ²⁷ when an oxe, a shepe or a goote is brought forth, it shalbe seuen dayes vnder the damme. And from the .viij. day forth, it shalbe accepted vnto a gyfte in the sacrifyce of the Lord. ²⁸ And whether it be oxe or shepe, ye shall not kyl it and her yong both in one day. ²⁹ When ye wyll offre a thankofferynge vnto the Lord, ye shal so offre it that ye may be accepted. ³⁰ And the same daye it must be eaten vp, so that ye leaue none of it vntyl the morowe. ³¹ For I am the Lorde, kepe nowe my commaundementes and do them, for I am the Lord. ³² And polute not my holy name, that I maye be halowed amonge the chyldren of Israel. For I am the Lorde whyche halowe you, ³³ and brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be youre GOD: for I am the Lorde.

¹² But the sonnes of Eli were vnthryftye chyldren, and knewe not the Lorde. ¹³ For the maner of the priestes wyth the people was whensoeuer any man offered any offerynges the priestes ladde came, whyle the fleshe was in sethynge, and a fleshoke wyth thre tethe in hys hande, ¹⁴ and thrust it into the panne, ketle, caldren, or potte. And all that the fleshe hoke broughte vp the prieste toke awaye. And so they dyd vnto all Israel that came thyther to Siloh. ¹⁵ Yea, & thereto before they had offered the fatte, the priestes lad came and sayde to the man that offered: geue fleshe to roste for the prieste, for he wyll not haue sodden fleshe of the, but rawe. ¹⁶ And yf any man sayd vnto hym let the fatte be offered accordynge to the daye, & then take as muche as thyne herte desireth. The lad wold aunswere him, thou shalt geue it me now, or els I wyl take it with violence. ¹⁷ And the synne of the young men was very great before the Lorde. For they dispysed the people and also the offerynge of the Lorde.

²² Eli was very olde, and hearde all that hys sonnes dyd vnto all Israel, & how they slepte wyth the wemen that wayted in the dore of the tabernacle of wytnesse,

²⁹ Wherfore kycke ye agaynste my sacryfyce and agaynst myne offeryng which I commaunde in the tabernacle, and honoreste thy chyldren aboue me, and make your selues fat of the fyrste frutes of all the offerynges of Israel my people?

⁸ The pryestes them selues sayde not once: where is the Lorde? They that haue the lawe in their handes, knowe me not. The sheperdes offende against me. The Prophetes do seruice vnto Baal, and folowe suche thinges as shall brynge them no profyt.

²⁶ Lyke as a thefe that is taken with the dede commeth to shame, euen so is the house of Israell come to confusyon, the comen people their kynges and rulers, their priestes & prophetes. ²⁷ For they saye to a stocke: thou art my father, and to a stone: thou hast be gotten me, yea they haue turned their backe vpon me, & not their face. But in the tyme of their trouble, when they saye: stande vp, and helpe vs,

¹⁹ Vpon these wordes, thus sayde the Lorde vnto me: If thou wylt turne agayne, I shall set the in my seruyce: and yf thou wylt take out the thynge that is precious from the vile, thou shalt be euen as myne owne mouth. They shall conuerte vnto the, but turne not thou vnto them:

¹³ Mem. Whiche neuertheles is come to passe for the synnes of her prophetes, and for the wyckednes of her Prestes that haue shed innocentes bloude with in her.

¹² I gaue them also my holy dayes, to be a token betwixte me and them, and therby know, that I am the Lorde, whiche haloweth them. ¹³ And yet the house of Israel rebelled agaynste me in the wildernesse, they woulde not walcke in my commaundementes, they haue cast awaye my lawes (whiche whoso kepeth, shoulde lyue in them) and my Sabboth dayes haue thy greatly vnhalowed. Then I made me to poure oute my indignacion vpon them, and to consume them in the wyldernesse.

⁸ Thou haste despysed my Sanctuarye, and vnhalowed my Sabboth.

²⁰ Now when they were gone vnto the Heathen, & come in amonge them they dyshonoured my holye name: so that it was sayde of them: Are these the people of God, & must go out of their owne lande?

²³ They shall shewe my people the dyfference betwene the holye and vnholye, betwyxte the clene and vnclene.

¹¹ O ye iudges, ye geue sentence for gyftes: O ye preastes, ye teach for lucre: O ye Prophetes, ye prophecy for monye. Yet wyll they be taken as those that holde vpon God, and saye: Is not the Lorde amonge vs? Tushe, there can no mysfortune happen vs. ¹² Therfore shall Syon (for youre sakes) be plowed lyke a felde: Ierusalem shalbe come an heape of stones, and the hyll of the temple shalbe turned to an hye wodde.

³ Her rulers within her are as roaryng lyons: her iudges are as wolues in the euenynge, which leaue nothynge behynde them tyll the morowe. ⁴ Her prophetes are lyght persones & vnfaythfull men: her priestes vnhalowe the Sanctuarye, and do wrong vnder the pretence of the lawe.

¹¹ Thus sayeth the Lorde GOD of hostes: Aske the priestes concerninge the lawe, & saye: ¹² yf one beare holye flesh in his cote lappe, and with his lappe do touche the bread, potage, wyne, oyle, or anye other meate: shall he be holye also? The priestes answered & sayde: No. ¹³ Then sayde aggeus: Nowe yf one being defyled with a dead carcase, touche anye of these: shall it also be vncleane. ¹⁴ The Pryestes gaue answers, & sayd: yea, it shalbe vncleane. Then Aggeus answered, and sayde: euen so is thys people & this nacyon before me, sayth the Lord: & so are al the worckes of theyr handes, yea, and all that they offre, is vncleane.

⁶ Should not a sonne honoure his father, & a seruaunte hys mayster? Yf I be now a father, where is mine honoure? Yf I be the Lorde, where am I feared? sayeth the Lord of hostes. Now to you priestes, that despise my name. And yf ye saye: wherin haue we despised thy name: ⁷ In this, that ye offre vnclean bread vpon myne aulter. And yf ye wyl say: wherin haue we offered auye vnclene thinge vnto the? In this place ye say: the aulter of the lord is not to be regarded. ⁸ Yf ye offre the blind, is not that euill? And yf ye offre the lame, and syck, is not that euyll? Yea, offre it vnto thy prince, shal he be content with the, or accepte thy personne, sayeth the Lorde of hostes.

¹ And now (O ye priestes) thys commaundement toucheth you: ² yf ye wyll not heare it, nor regarde it, to geue the glorye vnto my name, sayeth the lorde of hostes, I wyll sende a curse vpon you, and wyl cursle your blessinges: yea, curse them wil I yf ye do not take hede. ³ Behold, I shall corrupte your sede, and cast dong in your faces: turn the donge of your solempne feastes, & it shal cleue faste vpon you:

⁸ But as for you, ye are gone cleane out of the waye, & haue caused the multitude to be offended at the lawe: ye haue broken the couenaunt of Leui, sayeth the Lord of hostes.

²⁴ For the name of god is euyll spoken of amonge the gentyls thorow you, as it is wrytten.
