⁹ For lo, the daye of the Lorde shall come, terrible, full of indignacion and wrathe, to make the lande waste, and to rote oute the synne therof.

³⁵ As for synners, they shalbe consumed out of the earth, and the vngodlye shall come to an ende: but prayse thou the Lorde, O my soule. Prayse the euerlastynge.

²² but the vngodly shalbe roted oute of the lande, and the wicked doers shalbe taken out of it.

⁶ Mourne therfore, for the daye of the Lorde is at hande, & commeth as a destroyer from the Almyghtye.

¹⁵ Whoso is founde alone, shalbe shot thorow. And whoso gather together, shalbe destroied with the swerd. ¹⁶ Their chyldren shalbe slaine before their eyes, their houses spoyled, and their wyues rauyshed. ¹⁷ For lo, I shall brynge vp the Medes agaynst them, whiche shall not regarde siluer, nor be desyrous of gould. ¹⁸ Then shall young mens bowes be knapped a sunder. ¹⁰ For thou hast comforted thy selfe in thy dysceitfulnes, and hast sayde: No man seyth me. Thyne owne wysdome & connyng hath disceueyd the. In that thou hast sayde: I am alone, and without me there is none. ¹¹ Therfore shall trouble come vpon the, & thou shalt not knowe, from whence it shall aryse. Myschefe shal fall vpon the, which thou shalt not be able to put of. ²² Moreouer thus sayeth the Lorde: Behold, there shall come a people from the North, and a greate people shall aryse from the endes of the earthe, ²³ with bowes & with dartes shall they be weapened: It is a roughe & fearce people, an vnmercyfull people: theyr voyce roareth lyke the sea, they ryde vpon horses wel appoynted to the battel agaynst the, O doughter Sion.

⁴⁰ Lyke as God destroyed Sodome and Gomorre, with the cities that laye there aboute, sayeth the Lord: So shall no man dwell there also, nether shall any man haue there hys habitacyon. ⁴¹ Beholde, there shall come a people from the North, with a greate bounde of men and many Kynges shall stande vp from the endes of the earth: ⁴² They beare bowes & buclers, cruel are they and vnmercyfull. Their voyce roareth lyke the ragyng sea, they ryde vpon horses, & come weapened to fyght agaynst the O Babylon.

³⁵ he hath taken my substaunce awaye and the thynge that was lefte me, hath he caryed vnto Babylon, sayeth the doughter that dwelleth in Syon: yea and my bloude also vnto the Caldees, sayeth Ierusalem. ³⁶ Therfore thus sayth the Lorde: Beholde, I wyll defende thy cause, and auenge the: I wil dryncke vp her sea, and drye vp her water springes. ³⁷ Babilon shalt become an heape of stones a dwellinge place for dragons, a fearfulnes and wondrynge, because no man dwelleth there. ³⁸ They shall roare together lyke lyons, and as the yonge lyons when they be angrie, so shall they bende them selues. ³⁹ In their heate I shall sett drinke before them, & they shalbe droncken for ioye: Then shall they slepe an euerlastinge slepe, and neuer wake, sayeth the Lord ⁴⁰ I shall carie them downe to be slayne like shepe, like wethers and gootes. ⁴¹ O, how was Sesach wonne? The Gentyles also shall runne nomore vnto hym, yee and the walles of Babylon shall fall. ⁴⁵ O my people, come out of Babylon, that euery man maye saue his lyfe, from the fearfull wrath of the Lorde. ⁴⁶ Be not faynte herted, and feare not at euery rumoure that shalbe herde in the lande: for euery yeare bringeth new tydinges, yee straunge wyckednes and lordshyppe. ⁴⁷ And lo, the tyme commeth that I wyll vyset the ymages of Babylon, and the whole lande shalde confounded, yee and her slayne shall lye in the myddest of her. ⁴⁸ Heauen and earth with all that is therin, shall reioyce ouer Babylon, when the destroyers shall come vpon her from the North, sayeth the Lorde. ⁴⁹ Like as Babylon hath beaten downe and slayne many out of Israell, so shall there fall many, and be slayne in all her kyngdome. ⁵⁰ Ye that haue escaped the swearde, haste you, stande not styll, remembre the Lorde afarre of: and thincke vpon Ierusalem, ⁵¹ for we were ashamed to heare the blasphemyes: oure faces were couered with shame, because the straung aleauntes came into the Sanctuarye of the Lorde. ⁵² Wherfore beholde (sayeth the Lorde) the tyme commeth, that I will vyset the ymages of Babylon, and thorow the whole lande they shall mourne and fall. ⁵³ Though Babylon clymmed vp into heauen, & kepte her power an hye: yet shal I sende her destroyers, sayeth the Lorde. ⁵⁴ A pyteous crye shall be hearde from Babylon, and a greate misery from the lande of the Caldees: ⁵⁵ when the Lorde destroyeth them, and when he dryueth out the hye stomacke & proude boastyng, wherwith they haue bene as furyous as the waues of greate water floudes, and made greate crakes with their wordes. ⁵⁶ For the destroyers shall come vpon her (euen vpon Babylon) whyche shall take her worthyes, & breake their bowes: for God is dysposed to auenge hym selfe vpon them, and suffycyentlye to recompence them. ⁵⁷ Yee (sayeth the Lorde) I will make their Princes their wyse men, their chefe rulers & all their worthyes, droncken: so that they shall slepe an euerlastynge slepe, and neuer wake: Thus sayeth the Kynge, whose name is the Lorde of hostes. ⁵⁸ Moreouer, thus sayeth the Lorde of Hostes: The thycke wall of Babylon shalbe broken, & her proude gates shalbe brent vp. And the thynge that the Gentyles and the people haue wrought with greate trauayle and laboure, shal come to naught and be consumed in the fyre.

² The Lorde is a gelous God, & a taker of vengeaunce: yee a taker of vengeaunce is the Lorde, and wrathfull. The Lord taketh vengeaunce of hys enemyes, and reserueth dyspleasure for his aduersaries.

⁶ Who maye endure before his wrath? Or who is able to abyde hys gryme displeasure? His anger taketh on lyke fyre, and the harde rockes burst in sunder before hym.

¹ For marck, the day commeth, that shall burne as an ouen: and al the proude, yea and al such as do wickednesse, shalbe straw: and the daye that is for to come, shall burne them vp (sayeth the Lorde of hostes) so that it shall leaue them neyther rote nor braunche.

¹⁶ And the ten hornes, which thou sawest vpon the beast, are they that shal hate the whore, & shal make her desolate and naked, and shal eate her flesh and burne her wyth fyre. ¹⁷ For God hath put in their hertes to fulfil his wil, & to do wt one consent, for to geue her kingdom to the beast, vntil the wordes of God be fulfilled.

⁸ Therfore shal her plages come at one daye, death, and sorowe, and honger, and she shalbe brente wyth fyre, for stronge is the Lorde God, whiche iudgeth her.

¹⁷ And I sawe an angel stand in the sunne & he cryed wyth a loud voyce, saiyng to al the foules that flye by the myndes of heauen come & gather youre selues together vnto the supper of the great God, ¹⁸ that ye may eate the flesh of kinges, & of hye captaynes, & the fleshe of myghty men, and the flesh of horsses, & of them that sit on them, & the flesh of all free men & bonde men, & of small & great. ¹⁹ And I sawe the beast and the kynges of the earth, & theyr warriers gathered together to make battayl against him that sat on the horse & agaynst hys souldyers. ²⁰ And the beast was taken, & with hym that false prophete that wrought miracles before him with which he deceyued them that receiued the beastes marke, & them that worshipped his Image These both were cast into a ponde of fyre burnyng with brimstone: ²¹ and the remnaunte were slayne with the swerd of him that sate vpon the horse, which swerd proceded out of his mouth & all the foules were fulfilled with their flesh.
