⁴ Howebeit I knewe that thou arte obstynate, & that thy neck hath an yron veyne, & that thy browe is of brasse.

⁹ And the Lord sayd vnto Moyses: beholde I se this people that it is a styfe necked people,

³ that thou maist go into a land that floweth with mylke and honye. But I wyl not go amonge you my selfe, for ye are a styfnecked people: leste I consume you by the waye.

⁵ And the Lord spake vnto Moses, say vnto the chyldren of Israel: ye are a styfnecked people: I must come once sodenly vpon you, & make an ende of you. But now put youre goodly rayment from you, that I maye wete what to do vnto you.

¹⁶ Circumcyse therefore the foreskynne of youre hertes, and be no lenger styfenecked.

²⁷ I for knowe thy stubburnes and thy styffe necke: beholde whyle I am yet a lyue wyth you thys daye, ye haue bene disobediente vnto the Lorde: & howe much more after my death?

¹⁴ Notwithstanding they wolde not heare, but hardened their neckes, lyke to the neckes of their fathers that dyd not beleue the Lorde theyr God.

⁸ Wherfore be not styffenecked lyke vnto youre fathers, but yelde youre selues vnto the Lord, & come to hys holye place whiche he hath sanctified for euer, and serue the Lord youre God, that hys wrath maye turne from you.

¹³ And therto he rebelled agaynst Nabuchodonozor which had receyued on othe of hym by God, & was to styfenecked & to harde herted to turne vnto the Lord God of Israel.

¹⁶ But oure fathers were proude and hardnecked, so that they folowed not the commaundementes, ¹⁷ and refused to heare, and were not myndefull of the wonders that thou dyddeste for them: but became obstynate & heady in so muche that they turned backe to theyr bondage in theyr disobedience. But thou my God forgauest, and wast gracyous, mercyfull, pacyente, and of greate goodnesse, and forsokest them not.

²⁸ But when they came to reste, they turned backe agayne to do euyll before the: therefore lefteste thou them in the hande of theyr ennemyes, so that they had the domynyon ouer them. So they conuerted, and cryed vnto the, and thou heardeste them from heauen, and manye tymes haste thou delyuered them accordynge to thy greate mercye,

⁵ Set not vp your hornes on hie, and speake not wyth a styfe necke.

⁸ And not to be as their forefathers, a froward and ouerthwarte generatyon, a generation that set not their herte a ryghte, and whose spirite was not true towarde God.

¹ He that is styfnecked and wyll not be refourmed, shal sodenly be destroied without any helpe

¹² Heare me, O ye that are of an hye stomack, but farre from ryghtuousnesse.

³ This is the cause, that the rayne and eueninge dew hath ceased. Thou hast gotten the an whores foreheade, and canst not be ashamed.

³ Where as thou (O Lorde) lokest only vpon faythe and truthe. Thou hast scourged them, but they toke no repentaunce: thou hast correcte them for amendement, but they refused thy correccion. They made their faces harder then a stone, and woulde not amende.

²⁶ yet wolde they not herken, nor offre me theyr eares, but were obstynate and worse then theyr fathers.

¹⁵ Thus sayeth the Lord of Hostes the God of Israell: Beholde, I will brynge vpon this cytie and vpon euery towne aboute it, all the plages that I haue deuysed agaynst them: for they haue bene obstinate, & wolde not obeye my warnynges.

⁴ And he sayde vnto me: thou sonne of man, get the soone vnto the house of Israel, and shewe them the wordes, that I commaunde the: ⁵ for I sende the not to the people that hath a straunge, vnknowne, or harde speache, but vnto the house of Israel: ⁶ Not to many nacyons, which haue dyuerse speaches & harde languages, whose wordes thou vnderstandest not: Neuerthelesse: yf I sent the to those people, they wolde folowe the: ⁷ But the house of Israel wyll not folowe the, for they wyll not folowe me: yee all the house of Israell haue styf foreheades and harde hertes. ⁸ Beholde therfore, I wyll make thy face preuayle agaynst their faces, and harden thy foreheade agaynst their foreheades: ⁹ so that thy foreheade shalbe harder then an Adamaunte or flynt stone: that thou mayeste feare them the lesse, and be lesse afrayed of them, for they are a frowarde housholde.

²⁰ But because hys herte was so proude, and hys stomacke set so fast vnto wilfulnesse: he was deposed from hys kingly trone, & his magesty was taken from hym.

¹¹ Neuertheles they would not take hede, but turned their backes, & stopped their eares, that they should not heare: ¹² yea, they made their hertes as an Adamant stone, least they should hear the law & wordes, whiche the Lorde of hostes sent in his holy spirite by the Prophetes afore tyme. Wherfore the Lorde of hostes was verye wroth at them.

⁵¹ Ye styfe necked, and of vncyrcumcysed hertes and eares, ye haue al wayes resisted the holye ghoste as your fathers dyd, so do ye.

⁵ But thou after thyne harde herte that can not repente, heapeste the together the treasure of wrath againste the daye of vengaunce, when shall be opened the rightuous iudgement of God,

¹³ but exhorte one another dayly, whyle it is called to daye, leste anye of you wexe harde herted thorowe the deceythfulnesse of synne.
