¹ Youre synne (O ye of the trybe of Iuda) is written in the table of youre hertes, and grauen so vpon the edges of your aulters wyth a penne of yron and wyth an adamant clawe: ² that youre chyldren also maye thincke vpon youre aulters, woddes, thicke trees, hie hylles, mountaynes & feldes. ³ Wherfore, I will make all youre substaunce & treasure be spoyled, for the great synne that ye haue done vpon your hye places thorow out all the coastes of youre lande. ⁴ Ye shall be cast out also from the heretage, that I gaue you. And I wyll subdue you vnder the heuy bondage of youre enemyes, in a lande that ye knowe not. For ye haue mynystred fyre to my indignacyon, whyche shall burne euermore. ⁵ Thus sayeth the Lorde: Cursed be the man that putteth his trust in man, & that taketh flesh for hys arme: and he, whose herte departeth from the Lorde. ⁶ He shall be lyke the heeth, that groweth in the wildernes. As for the good thing that is for to come, he shal not se it: but dwell in a drye place of the wildernes, in a salt and vnoccupied lande. ⁷ O blessed is the man, that putteth hys trust in the Lorde, and whose hope is the Lorde hym selfe. ⁸ For he shalbe as a tre, that is planted by the water syde: which spredeth out the rote vnto moystness, whom the heate can not harme, when it commeth, but his leaues are grene. And though there growe but lytle frute because of drouth, yet is he not carefull, but he neuer leaueth of to brynge forth fruite. ⁹ Amonge all thynges lyuinge, man hath the moste disceytfull and vnsercheable herte. Who shall then knowe it? ¹⁰ Euen I the Lorde search out the grounde of the herte, & trye the reynes, and rewarde euery man accordinge to hys wayes, and acordynge to the fruyte of his councels. ¹¹ The dysceytfull maketh a nest, but bryngeth forth no yonge. He commeth by ryches, but not ryghtuously. In the middest of his life must he leaue them behinde hym, and at the last be founde a very foole. ¹² But thou (O Lord) whose trone is moste gloryous, excellent and of most antyquite, whych duellest in the place of oure holye reste: ¹³ Thou art the comforte of Israell. All they that forsake the, shal be confounded: all they that departe from the, shalbe wrytten in earth, for they haue forsaken the Lorde the very condyte of the waters of lyfe. ¹⁴ Heale me, O Lord, and I shall be whole: saue thou me, and I shalbe saued, for thou art my prayse. ¹⁵ Beholde, these men saye vnto me: Where is the worde of the Lord: Lett it come. ¹⁶ Where as I neuertheles ledynge the flocke in thy wayes, haue compelled none by violence. For I neuer desyred eny mans deeth, this knowest thou well. My wordes also were right before the. ¹⁷ Be not now terryble vnto me, O Lorde, for thou art he in whom I hope, when I am in parell. ¹⁸ Let my persecuters be confounded, but not me: let them be afrayed, and not me. Thou shalt bringe vpon them the tyme of their plage, and shalt destroye them right sore. ¹⁹ Agayne, thus hath the Lorde sayde vnto me: Go and stande vnder the gate, where thorow the people and the kynges of Iuda go out and in, yee vnder all the gates of Ierusalem, ²⁰ and saye vnto them: Heare the worde of the Lorde, ye kynges of Iuda, and al thou people of Iuda, and all ye cytesyns of Ierusalem, that go thorowe thys gate: ²¹ Thus the Lorde commaundeth: Take hede for youre lyues, that ye carye no burthen vpon you in the Sabboth, to brynge it thorowe the gates of Ierusalem: ²² ye shall beare no burthen also out of youre houses in the Sabboth. Ye shall do no laboure therin, but halowe the Sabboth, as I commaunded youre fathers. ²³ How be it they obeyed me not, nether herkened they vnto me: but were obstynate & stubburne, & nether obeyed me, nor receyued my correccyon. ²⁴ Neuertheles, yf ye will heare me (sayet the Lord) & beare no burthen in to the cytie thorow this gate vpon the Sabboth: If ye wyll halowe the Sabboth, so that ye do no worcke therin: ²⁵ then shall there go thorowe the gates of this cytie, kynges and prynces, that shall syt vpon the stole of Dauid: They shall be caried vpon charettes, and ryde vpon horses, both they and their prynces. Yee whole Iuda and all the cytesyns of Ierusalem shall goo here thorowe, and this cytye shall euer be the more and more inhabyted. ²⁶ There shall come men also from the cyties of Iuda, from aboute Ierusalem, & from the lande of BenIamin, from the playne feldes, from the mountaynes and from the wyldernesse: whiche shall brynge burntofferynges, sacrifyces, oblacions, and incense, and offre vp thanckesgeuyng in the house of the Lord. ²⁷ But yf ye wyll not be obedyent vnto me, to halow the Sabboth, so that ye will beare youre burthens thorow the gates of Ierusalem vpon the Sabboth: Then shall I set fyre vpon the gates of Ierusalem, and it shall burne vp the houses of Ierusalem, and no man shall be able to quench it.

¹⁷ and shal dype hys fynger in the bloude, and sprinkle it seuen tymes before the Lorde: euen before the vayle. ¹⁸ And shall put of the bloude vpon the hornes of the alter whych is before the Lorde in the tabernacle of wytnes, and shall poure al the bloud vpon the botome of the alter of burnt offeringes whych is by the dore of the tabernacle of witnes,

²⁵ Then let the priest take of the bloude of the synneofferyng with hys fynger, and put it vpon the hornes of the burnt offeryng aulter, & poure his bloud vpon the botome of the burntofferyng alter,

²³ O that my wordes were written, O that they were put in a boke: ²⁴ woulde God they were grauen with an yron penne in leade or in stone.

³ Let mercy & faythfulnes neuer go from the: bynde them about thy necke, & write them in the tables of thyne hert.

³ Bind them vpon thy fingers, and wryte them in the table of thyne herte.

¹¹ But at Galaad is the abhominacyon, they are fallen to vanitye. At Galgal they haue slayne oxen: and as many heapes of stones as they had in their lande forowes, so manye aulters haue they made.

³ in that ye are knowen, howe that ye are the Epistle of Christe, ministred by vs and writen, not wyth ynke, but wyth the spirite of the lyuyng God, not in tables of stone, but in fleshly tables of the herte.

⁷ And so the chyldren of Israell dyd wyckedlye in the syght of the Lord and forgate the Lorde theyr God and serued Baalim & Aseroth.

¹⁸ And so they lefte the house of the Lorde God of theyr fathers, and serued groues and Images. And then came there wrath vpon Iuda and Ierusalem, for thys theyr trespaces sake.

³ For he went to and buylt agayne the hylaulters, which Hezekiah his father had broken downe. And he rered vp aulters vnto Baals & made groues & bowed him selfe vnto all the host of heauen and serued them.

¹⁹ And his prayer & how that he was hearde, & all his synne & trespace, and the places where he made hylaulters and set vp groues & kerued Images before he was mekened, are written amonge the deades of the sears of visyons.

⁵⁸ And so they greued hym with theyr hye places, & prouoked him with their ymages.

²⁹ And except ye be ashamed of the oke trees wherein ye haue so delyted, and of the gardens that ye haue chosen:

⁸ And shall not turne to the aulters that are the worcke of his owne handes, neyther shal he loke vpon groues & ymages, which his fingers haue wrought.

²⁰ I haue euer broken thy yocke of olde, and burste thy bondes: yet sayest thou: I wil nomore serue, but (lyke an harlot) thou runnest aboute vpon all hye hilles, and amonge all grene trees,

¹⁸ The chyldren gather stickes the fathers kyndle the fyre, the mothers kneade the doughe, to bake cakes for the quene of heauen, They poure out drincke offerynges vnto straunge goddes, to prouoke me vnto wrath:

²⁸ For after I had brought them in to the lande, that I promysed to geue them, when they sawe euery hye hyll and the thicke trees: they made their offerynges, and prouoked me with their oblacyons, makinge swete sauoures there, and poured oute their drynckeofferynges.

¹³ They make sacrifices vpon the hye mountaynes, and burne their incense vpon the hylles, yea, amonge the okes, groues & bushes, for there are good shadowes Therfore your doughters are become harlottes, and youre spouses haue broken their wedlocke, ¹⁴ I wyll not punishe youre doughters for beynge defyled, & youre brydes that became whores: seinge the fathers them selues haue medled wt harlottes & offered wt vnthriftes: but the people that will not vnderstand, must be punished.

³⁰ And I wyll destroy your alters bylt vpon hye hylles, and ouerthrow youre images and caste youre carkasses vpon the bodyes of your idolles, and my soule shall abhorre you.

¹³ And he caryed oute thence all the treasure of the house of the Lorde, and the treasure of the kynges house, and brake all the vesselles of goulde, whyche Salomon kynge of Israel had made, in the temple of the Lorde, as the Lorde had sayde.

¹³ And the pyllers of brasse that were in the house of the Lorde and the botomes, and the brasen sea, that was in the house of the Lorde the Caldeyes brake, & caryed the brasse of them to Babylon. ¹⁴ And the lauers, shouelles, dressynge kniues, ladelles, and the mynystrynge vesselles of brasse, they caried awaie. ¹⁵ And the firepannes & basens that were eyther of gould or syluer, ¹⁶ them toke the chefe Marshal away with the two pillers and the sea of brasse, and the bottomes whiche Salomon had made in the house of the Lorde. The brasse of al these vesselles was without weyght.

² It will be also in processe of tyme: That the hyl where the house of the Lorde is buylded, shal be the chefe amonge hylles, and exalted aboue al lytle hylles. And all the Heathen shall preache vnto hym, & the multytude of people shall go vnto hym, ³ speakynge thus one to another: vp let vs go to the hyll of the Lorde, & to the house of the God of Iacob: that he maye shewe vs hys waye, and that we maye walcke in hys pathes. For the lawe shall come out of Syon and the worde of God from Ierusalem,

⁹ And therfor shall the iniquite of Iacob be thus reconcyled. And so shall he take away all the frute of hys sinnes. As for aulter stones, he shall make them all as stones beaten to poulder: the groues & Idols shall not stande.

⁴ Esay sayd: what haue they loked vpon in thyne house? Hezekiah answered: All that is in myne house haue they sene: and there is nothinge in my treasure, but I shewed it them. ⁵ Then sayde Esay vnto Hezekiah: Vnderstande the worde of the Lord of Hostes: ⁶ Beholde the tyme wyll come, that euery thynge which is in thyne house, and al that thy progenytoures haue layde vp in stoare vnto this daye, shalbe caried to Babylon, & nothinge left behynde. Thys sayeth the Lorde.

¹² The destroyers come ouer the heeth euery waye, for the swearde of the Lorde shall consume from the one ende of the lande to the other, & no flesh shall haue reste.

¹³ As for youre ryches and treasure, I wyll geue them out in to a praye, not for eny money, but because of all your synnes, that ye haue done in all youre coastes.

¹⁸ Micheah the Morasthite, which was a Prophet vnder Ezekiah kynge of Iuda, spake to all the people of Iuda: Thus sayeth the Lorde of Hostes: Syon shalbe plowed lyke a felde, Ierusalem shalbe an heape of stones, and the hyll of the Lordes house shalbe turned to an hye wood.

¹⁵ As for the poore people and soch folcke as yet was left in the cytie, which also were fallen to the Kynge of Babylon, yee and what people as yet remayned: Nabuzaradan the chefe Captayne caryed them awaye presoners. ¹⁶ But the poore people of the countre, dyd Nabuzaradan the chefe Captayne leaue in the lande, to occupye the vyneyardes & feldes. ¹⁷ The Caldees also brake the brasen pylers that were in the house of the Lorde, yee the seate & the brasen lauer that was in the house of the Lorde and caryed all the metall of them vnto Babylon. ¹⁸ They toke awaye also the Cauldrons, shouels, fleshe hokes, sprynklers, spones, and all the brasen vessell that was occupyed in the seruyce: ¹⁹ with the basens, colepannes, sprynklers, pottes, candelstyckes, spones and cuppes: wherof some were of golde, and some of syluer. ²⁰ The chefe Captaynes toke also the two pylers, the lauer the .xij. brasen bullockes that stode vnder the seate, which Kyng Salomon made in the house of the Lord: & all the vessel conteyned so moch metall, that it myght not be weyed.

¹⁰ Iod. The enemye hath put his hande to all the precious thynges that she had, yee euen before her eyes came the Heathen in & out of the Sanctuarye: whom thou (neuertheles) hast forbydden to come within thy congregacyon.

¹⁷ Therfore oure herte is full of heuynesse, and oure eyes dymme: ¹⁸ because of the hyll of Syon that is destroyed. In so moch, that the foxes runne vpon it.

³ & saye Heare the worde of the Lorde God, O ye mountaynes of Israell: Thus hath the Lorde God spoken to the mountaynes, hilles, valleyes and dales. Beholde, I wyll brynge a swearde ouer you, & destroye youre hye places:

²⁰ because they made therof not only costly Ieweles for their pompe and pryde, but also abhomynable ymages and Idoles. For this cause wyll I make them to be abhorred. ²¹ Moreouer, I will geue it into the handes of the straungers to be spoyled: and to the wycked, for to be robbed, and they shall destroye it. ²² My face wyll I turne from them, my treasury shalbe defiled: for the theues shall go in to it, and suspende it.

³⁹ I will geue the ouer into their power, that shal breake doune thy stewes, and destroye thy brodel houses, they shall stryppe the oute of thy clothes, al thy fayre and beutyfull Iewels shall they take from the, and so let the syt naked and bare:

⁵ And all this shall be for the wyckednesse of Iacob, and the synnes of the house of Israell. But what is the wyckednesse of Iacob? Is not Samaria? Whiche are the hye places of Iuda? Is not Ierusalem? ⁶ Therfore I shall make Samaria an heape of stones in the felde, to laye aboute the vineyarde: her stones shall I cast in to the valley, & discouer her foundacions. ⁷ All her Images shalbe broken downe & all her wynnynges shalbe brent in the fyre: yee all her Idols wyll I destroye: for why, they are gathered out of the hyre of an whore, and in to an whores hyre shall they be turned agayne.

¹² Therfore shall Syon (for youre sakes) be plowed lyke a felde: Ierusalem shalbe come an heape of stones, and the hyll of the temple shalbe turned to an hye wodde.

³¹ And I wyl make your cityes desolate, and brynge your sanctuaries vnto nought, and wyll not smel the sauoures of your swete odoures. ³² And I wyl brynge the lande vnto a wyldernesse: so that your enemies whych dwell therin shal wonder at it. ³³ And I wyl strawe you among the Heathen, and wyl draw out a swerde after you, and youre land shal be waste, and your cityes desolate. ³⁴ Then the Lande shall reioyce in hyr Sabbothes, as longe as it lyeth voyde and ye in youre enemyes lande: euen then shal the Lande kepe holy day and reioyce in hir Sabbothes.

²⁶ I cal heauen and earth to recorde vnto you thys day, that ye shal shortely perishe from of the lande whither ye go ouer Iordan to possesse it: ye shal not prolong your daies therin but shal shortly be destroyed. ²⁷ And the Lorde shal scatter you among nations, & ye shalbe left fewe in numbre among the people whyther the lord shal bryng you,

²⁵ And the Lorde shall plage the before thyne enmyes: Thou shalt come out one waye agaynste them, and flee seuen wayes before them, & shalt be scatered amonge al the kingdomes of the erth.

⁴⁷ And because thou seruedest not the Lord thy God wyth ioyfulnesse and with a good herte for the abundaunce of all thinges, ⁴⁸ therfore thou shalt serue thyne enemye which the Lord shall sende vpon the: in hunger and thrust, in nakednesse and in nede of all thynge: & he shall put a yocke of yeron vpon thyne necke, vntyll he haue broughte the to nought.

²⁶ And they went & serued straunge goddes & worshipped them: goddes which they knew not and which had geuen them nought. ²⁷ And therfore the wrath of the Lorde waxed whote vpon that lande to bryng vpon it all the curses that are written in this boke. ²⁸ And the Lorde cast them out of their lande in angre, wrath and greate furyousnesse, and cast them in to a straunge land, as it is come to passe this day.

²² For fyre is kindeled in my wrath, and shal burne vnto the bottome of hell. And shall consume the earth wyth hyr encrease, & set a fyre the bottomes of the mountaines. ²³ I wyll heape mischeues vpon them & wyl spend al myne arrowes at them. ²⁴ Burnt with hongre & consumed with heat and wt bytter pestelence. I wyll also sende the teeth of beastes vppon them and poyson serpentes. ²⁵ Withoute forthe, the swerde shal robbe them of theyr chyldren: and wythin in the chamber, feare: both younge menne and yong womenne & the suckelynges wyth the men of gray heades.

¹⁵ And as all good thynges are come vpon you, which the Lorde youre God promysed you: so shall the Lorde brynge vpon you all euyll vntyl he haue destroyed you from of thys good lande which the Lorde your God hath geuen you ¹⁶ when ye haue transgressed the appoyntment of the Lorde youre God, which he commaunded you, and haue gone and serued straunge Goddes, and bowed your selues to them. Then shal the wrath of the Lord waxe whote vpon you, and ye shall peryshe quickly, from of the good lande which he hath geuen you.

⁷ then I wyll weede Israel oute of the lande whiche I haue geuen them. And this house which I haue halowed for my name, I wyll put out of my syghte, And Israell shall be a prouerbe and a fable vnto all nacyons.

²¹ And the kynge of Babilon smote them and slue them at Reblah in the lande of Hemath. And so Iuda was caried awaye out of their lande.

²⁸ But when they came to reste, they turned backe agayne to do euyll before the: therefore lefteste thou them in the hande of theyr ennemyes, so that they had the domynyon ouer them. So they conuerted, and cryed vnto the, and thou heardeste them from heauen, and manye tymes haste thou delyuered them accordynge to thy greate mercye,

²⁵ Therfore is the wrath of the Lorde kyndeled also agaynst his people, and he shaketh hys hande at them: yea he shall smyte so, that the hylles shall tremble. And theyr karcases shall lye in the open stretes, lyke myre. After all thys, the wrathe of God shall not ceasse, but he shall stretche hys hande wyder.

³ When the lord now shall bringe the to rest, from the trauail, feare, and harde boundage that thou wast laden wyth all,

³³ For he hath prepared the fyre of payne from the begynnynge, yea euen for Kynges also. This hath he made depe & wyde, the noryshing thereof is fyre & woode innumerable, whiche the breathe of the Lorde kyndleth, as it were a matche of brymstone.

²⁴ And they shall go forth and loke vpon the carions of them, that haue transgressed against me. For their wormes shall not dye, neyther shall their fyre be quenched, and al fleshe shall abhorre them.

²⁹ Shulde I not punyshe these thynges, saith the Lorde? shulde I not be auenged of al suche people, as these be?

²⁰ And therfore thus saith the Lorde God: beholde, my wrath and my indignacyon shalbe poured out vpon this place, vpon men & catel vpon the trees in the felde & all frute of the lande, and it shall burne so, that no man maye quenche it.

⁷ As for me (saye I) I haue forsaken myne owne dwellyng place, & left myne heretage. My life also that I loue so well, haue I geuen in to the handes of myne enemyes.

¹⁴ And I wyll brynge you with youre enemyes in to a lande, that ye knowe not: for the fyre that is kyndled in my indignacyon, shall burne you vp.

¹³ Therfore wyll I cast you oute of this lande, in to a lande that ye and youre fathers knowe not: and there shall ye serue straunge goddes daye and nyght, there wyll I shewe you no fauoure.

⁹ lo, I wyll sende out, call for all the people, that dwell in the North, sayeth the Lorde, and will prepayre Nabuchodonosor the kynge of Babylon my seruaunt, and will bringe them vpon this lande, & vpon all that dwell therin, and vpon all the people that are aboute them, & will vtterly rote them oute. I wyll make of them a wyldernesse, a mockage and a continuall deserte. ¹⁰ Moreouer, I will take from them the voyce of gladnesse and solace, the voyce of the brydegrom & the bryde, the voyce of the anoynted, wyth the cresshettes: ¹¹ and this whole lande shall become a wyldernes, & they shall serue the sayde people & the kynge of Babylon, thre score yeares and ten.

¹² All these thynges tolde I Zedekiah the Kynge of Iuda, and sayde: Put youre neckes vnder the yocke of the Kynge of Babylon, & serue hym & hys people, that ye maye lyue. ¹³ Why wylte thou and thy people perysh with the swearde, wyth honger, wyth pestylence: lyke as the Lorde hath deuysed for all people, that wyll not serue the kynge of Babylon?

¹² Lamed. O ye all that go fore by, beholde and se, yf there be eny sorow like vnto myne, wherwith the Lord hath troubled me, in the daye of his fearefull wrath.

² Oure enherytaunce is turned to the straungers, and oure houses to the aleauntes.

⁴⁷ and say to the the wood toward the south: Heare the worde of the Lorde: thus sayeth the Lorde God: Beholde, I wil kindle a fire in the, that shal consume the grene trees with the drye. No man shal be able to quenche hys flamme, but al that loketh from the south to the north, shalbe brent therin: ⁴⁸ & al flesh shal se, that I the Lord haue kindled it, so that no man maye quenche it.

³¹ and pour my indignacion vpon the and will blowe vpon the in the fyre of my wrath, and delyuer the vnto cruell people, whych are learned to destroye.

⁵ The mountaynes tremble for him, the hylles consume. At the syght of hym, the earth quaketh: yee the whole world, and all that dwell therin. ⁶ Who maye endure before his wrath? Or who is able to abyde hys gryme displeasure? His anger taketh on lyke fyre, and the harde rockes burst in sunder before hym.

⁴³ Wherfore if thy hande offende the, cut hym of. It is better for the, to enter into lyfe maymed, then hauing two handes, go into hel, into fyre that neuer shal be quenched, ⁴⁴ where their worme dyeth not, and the fyre neuer goeth out. ⁴⁵ Likekewise if thy fote offende the, cut him of. For it is better for the to go halt into life, then hauinge two fete to be caste into hell, into fyre that neuer shalbe quenched: ⁴⁶ where their worme dyeth not, and the fyre neuer goeth out. ⁴⁷ Euen so if thyne eye offende the, plucke him out. It is better for the to go into the kyngedome of God with one eye, then hauing two eies to be cast into hel fyre: ⁴⁸ where their worm dieth not, and the fyre neuer goeth out. ⁴⁹ Euery man therfore shalbe salted wyth fyre. And euery sacrifice shalbe seasoned with salt,

⁸ With him is an arme of flesh: But with vs is the Lorde oure God for to helpe vs and to fyght oure batayles. And the people were well couraged with the wordes of Hezekiah kynge of Iuda.

²¹ For I haue kepte the wayes of the Lord: and haue not behaued my selfe wickedly agaynst my God.

⁹ As for men, they are but vayne, men are dysceatfull: vpon the weyghtes they are all together lyghter than vanitye it selfe.

⁸ It is better to trust in the lord, then to put any cofydence in man. ⁹ It is better to trust in the lord then to put any confydence in prynces.

³ O put not your trust in prynces, nor in any chylde of man, for there is no helpe in them. ⁴ For when the breath of man goeth forth, he shall turne agayne to his earth, and so all hys thoughtes perysh.

²² Every man can eschue a persone moued in anger, for what doeth he wyselye?

¹ Wo be to those shrynkynge children (sayeth the Lorde) whiche seke councell, but not at me: whiche take a webbe in hande but not after my wil: that they may heape one synne vpon another. ² They go doune into Egypte (and aske me no councell) to seke helpe at the power of Pharao, and comforte in the shadowe of the Egypcians. ³ But Pharaos helpe shalbe youre confusyon, & the comfort in the Egypcyans shadowe shalbe your owne shame. ⁴ Youre rulers haue bene at Zoan, and youre messaungers came vnto Hanes. ⁵ But ye shall al be ashamed of the people that maye not helpe you, whiche shall not brynge you strength or comforte, but shame and confusyon. ⁶ Youre beastes haue borne burthens vpon theyr backes towarde the Southe, thorow the way that is full of parell and trouble, because of the lyon & lyones, of the Cockatryce & shutynge dragon. Yea the Mules bare youre substaunce, & the Camels brought your treasure vpon their croked backes, vnto a people that can not helpe you. ⁷ For the Egipcians helpe shalbe but vayne and lost. Therfore I tolde you also, that your pryde shulde haue an end.

¹ Wo be vnto them that go doune into Egypte for help, and trust in horses, & comforte themselues in charettes, because they be many, & in horse men because they be lusty & strong. But they regarde not the holy one of Israel, and they aske no question at the Lorde. ² Where as he neuertheles plageth the wicked, and yet goeth not from hys word when he steppeth forthe, and taketh the victory agaynste the housholde of the frowarde, & agaynste the helpe of euyll doars. ³ Nowe the Egypcyans are men, and not God, and theyr horses fleshe and not sprete. And as soone as the Lorde stretched oute his hande, then shall the helper fall, and he that shuld haue ben helped, and shall all together be destroyed. ⁴ For thus hath the Lorde spoken vnto me: Lyke as the lyon or lyons whelpe roareth vpon the praye that he hath gotten, and is not afrayed, thoughe the multitude of shepardes crye oute vpon hym, nether abashed for all the heape of them: So shal the Lord of Hostes come doune from the mounte of Sion, and defend his hil. ⁵ Lyke as the brydes flotre about theyr nestes, so shall the Lord of Hostes, kepe, saue, defend & delyuer Ierusalem. ⁶ Therfore, O ye children of Israel, turne agayne, lyke as ye haue exceaded in youre goynge backe. ⁷ For in that daye euerye man shall caste oute hys Idols of syluer and gold, which ye haue made with your synfull handes. ⁸ Assur also shalbe slayne with the swerde, not with a mans swerde. A swerd shall deuoure hym, but not a mans swerde. And he shall fle from the slaughter, and hys seruauntes shalbe taken prysoners. ⁹ He shall go for feare to hys stronge holdes, and hys Prynces shal fle from hys badge. Thys hath the Lorde spoken, whose lyght burneth in Syon, and hys fyre in Ierusalem.

⁶ lo, thou puttest thy truste in a broken staffe of rede (I meane Egypte) whyche he that leaneth vpon, it goeth in to hys hande & shutteth hym thorowe. Euen so is Pharao the Kyng of Egypt, vnto all them that trust in him.

¹⁵ Yea, the truth is layde in preson, and he that refraineth him selfe from euyl, must be spoyled. When the Lorde sawe this, it dyspleased him sore, that there was no where any equite.

⁹ And they that escape from you, shall thyncke vpon me amonge the Heathen, where they shalbe in captiuyte. As for that whorysh & vnfaythfull herte of theirs, wherwyth they runne awaye fro me, I wyll breake it: yee and put oute those eyes of theirs, that commytte fornicacyon with their Idols. Then shall they be ashamed, and displeased wyth their selues, for the wyckednesses & abhomynacions, which they haue done:

⁶ that al thei whiche dwell in Egypte, maye knowe, that I am the Lorde: because thou haste bene a staffe of rede to the house of Israel. ⁷ When they toke hold of the with theyr hand thou brakest & pryekest them on euerye syde, & yf they leaned vpon the, thou brakest & hurtest the reynes of theyr backes.

² First when the Lorde spake vnto Oseas, he sayde vnto him: Go thy waye, take an harlot to thy wyfe, and get chyldren by her: for the lande hath committed greate whordome agaynst the Lorde.

²³ how all the land is burnt vp wyth bremstone & salt, & that it is nether sowne nor beareth, nor any grasse groweth therin, after the ouerthrowing of Sodome, Gomor, Adama and Zeboim: which the Lord ouerthrewe in his wrath and angre.

⁴⁵ And then Abimelech fought agaynste the cytye all that daye, & toke it, & slew the people that was therin, & destroyed the cytye & sowed salt in the place.

² Then a great Lorde on whose hande the kyng leaned, aunswered the man of God and sayde, though the Lorde woulde make wyndowes in heauen, yet wolde not thys be. And he sayde agayne: Behold, thou shalt se it with thyne eyes and shalte not eate thereof.

¹⁹ And the Lorde aunswered the man of God & sayd: though the Lorde made wyndowes in heauen, yet wolde thys not be. And the other sayde: Beholde, thou shalt se it with thyne eyes, and shalt not eate thereof. ²⁰ And so it chaunged: for the people troade hym vnder fete in the gate, that he dyed.

¹¹ Maye a rysshe be grene wythout moystnesse? maye the grasse growe wythout water? ¹² No: but (or euer it be shot forth, and or euer it be gathered) it withereth, before eny other herbe. ¹³ Euen so goeth it with all them, that forget God: and euen thus also shall the ypocrytes hope come to naught.

³⁰ He shall neuer come oute of darcknesse, the flame shall drye vp hys braunches, wyth the blast of the mouth of God shall he be taken awaye. ³¹ He wyll nether applye hym selfe to faythfulnes ner trueth, so sore is he disceiued wyth vanyte. ³² He shall perysh, afore his tyme be worne out, and his hand shal not be greene. ³³ He shall be pluckte of as an vntymely grape from the vyne, and shal let his floure fal, as the olyue doeth. ³⁴ For the congregacyon of ypocrites is vnfrutefull, and the fyre shall consume the houses of suche, as are gredy to receyue gyftes.

¹⁷ so that he shall nomore se the ryuers & brokes of honye & butter:

⁶ Vnto whom I haue geuen the wyldernes to be their house, & the vntylled lande to be theyr dwellynge place.

⁴ As for the vngodly, it is not so with them but they are lyke the dust, wych the wynde scatered awaye from the grounde.

⁷ That the vngodly are grene as the grasse and that all the workes of wickednes do florish to be destroyed for euer.

⁶ Let them be euen as the haye vppon the house toppes, whyche wythereth afore it be pluckte vp. ⁷ Wherof the mower fylleth not his hande, neither he that byndeth vp the sheaues, hys bosome. ⁸ So that they which go by, saye not so much as: the Lord prospere you, we wish you good lucke in the name of the Lord.

³⁰ ye shalbe as an oke whose leaues are fallen awaye, and as a garden that hath no moystnesse.

⁶ Get you away, saue youre lyues, and be lyke vnto the heath in the wyldernes.

¹¹ As for hys claye & pyttes, they shall not be whole, for why, it shalbe occupyde for salt.

⁹ Therfore as truely as I lyue (sayeth the Lorde of hostes the God of Israel) Moab shalbe as Sodome, & Ammon as Gomorra: euen drye thorne hedges, salt pyttes and a perpetual wyldernes. The resydue of my folcke shall spoyle them the remnaunte of my people shall haue them in possession.

¹² Kysse the sonne, lest the Lorde be angrye and so ye peryshe from the ryght way. For his wrath shalbe kindled shortly: blessed are all they that put their trust in hym.

⁸ O taste and se how frendly the Lorde is, blessed is the man that trusteth in hym.

⁴ Blessed is the man that setteth his hope in the Lorde, and turneth not vnto the proud, & to such as go aboute with lyes.

¹² O Lorde God of Hostes, blessed is the man that putteth his truste in the.

¹ The song of the steares. They that put their truste in the Lord, are euen as the mounte Syon, which may not be remoued, but standeth fast for euer.

⁵ Blessed is he that hath the God of Iacob for his helpe, and whose hope is in the Lord hys God.

²⁰ He that handleth a matter wisely, opteineth good: and blessed is he, that putteth his trust in the Lord

³ And thou, whiche art the doar & hast the matter in hand, shalt prouyde for peace, euen the peace that men hope for in the. ⁴ Hope styl in the lord for in the Lorde God is euerlastyng strength.

¹⁸ Yet standeth the Lorde waytynge, that he maye haue mercye vpon you, and lyfteth hym selfe vp, that he maye receyue you to grace. For the Lorde God is ryghtuous. Happy are all they that wayte for him.

¹² that we whiche before beleued in Christ shoulde be vnto the prayse of hys glorye.

¹⁶ Oft tyme a thynge doth floryshe, and men thynke that it maye abyde the Sonne shynynge: it shuteth forth the braunches in hys garden,

³ Suche a man is lyke a tree planted by the watersyde, that bringeth forthe hys frute in due season. His leaues shall not fall af, & loke whatsoeuer he doth, it shall prospere.

¹⁰ But my horne shalbe exalted like the horne of an Vnicorne, & shalbe anoynted wyth fresh oyle. ¹¹ Myne eye also shall se hys luste of myne enemyes, and myne eare shall heare his desire of the wicked that ryse vp agaynst me. ¹² The righteous shall florish lyke a palme tree, and growe like a Cedre of Libanus. ¹³ Suche as be planted in the house of the Lorde, be frutefull, ¹⁴ plenteous and grene. ¹⁵ That they maye shew, how true the Lorde my strength is, and that there is no vnrighteousnesse in hym.

¹¹ The Lord shal euer be thy gyde, and satisfye the desire of thyne herte, and fyl thy bones with marye. Thou shalt be like a freshwatred garden, and lyke the founteyne of water, that neuer leaueth running.

¹ The worde of the Lorde shewed vnto Ieremye, concernynge the derth of the fruites. ² Iuda shal mourne, men shall not go moch more thorow hys gates: the lande shalbe no more had in reputacyon, and the crie of Ierusalem shall breake out. ³ The Lordes shall sende their seruauntes to fetch water, and when they come to the welles, they shall fynde no water, but shall carye their vessels home emptye. They shall be ashamed and confounded, & shall couer their heades. ⁴ For the grounde shalbe dried vp, because there commeth no rayne vpon it. The plowmen also shalbe a shamed, & shall couer their heades. ⁵ The Hynde shall forsake the yonge fawne, that he bringeth forth in the felde because there shalbe no grasse. ⁶ The wylde Asses shall stande in the Mosse, and drawe in their wynde lyke the Dragons, their eyes shall fayle for want of grasse.

⁴ The waters made hym great, & the depe set hym vp an hye. Rounde aboute the rotes of hym ranne there floudes of water, he sente oute hys lytle ryuers vnto al the trees of the felde. ⁵ Therfore was he hyer then all the trees of the felde, and thorowe the multytude of waters that he sente from hym, he obtayned manye longe braunches. ⁶ All foules of the ayre made theyr nestes in hys braunches, vnder his bowes gendred all these beastes of the felde and vnder hys shadowe dwelte all people. ⁷ Fayre and beutyful was he in hys greatnesse and in the length of hys braunches, for hys rote stode besyde great waters, ⁸ no Cedre tree myght hyde hym. In the pleasaunte garden of God, there was no fyrre tre lyke his braunches, the plaine trees were not lyke the bowes of hym. All the trees in the garden of God myght not be compared vnto hym in hys beuty ⁹ so fayre and goodly had I made him wyth the multytude of hys braunches: In so muche that al the trees in the pleasaunte garden of God, had enuye at hym. ¹⁰ Therfore, thus saith the Lorde God: for so muche as he hath lyfte vp him self so hye, & stretched his toppe into the cloudes, & seynge hys herte is proude in hys hyghnesse:

¹² By this ryuer vpon both the sydes of the shore, there shall growe al maner of fruiteful trees, whose leaues shall not fall of, nether shall their fruyte peryshe: but euer be rype at their monethes, for their water ronneth out of their Sanctuary. His fruite is good to eate and hys leaf profitable for medycyne.

⁵ And whan the Lord saw that the wekednesse of man was encreased vpon the erth, & that al the ymaginacion & thoughtes of his hert was only euell contynually,

²¹ And the Lorde smelled a swete sauour, & sayd in his hert: I wyll henceforth no more cursse the earthe for mans sake, for the imagination of mans herte is euyll, euen from the very youth of him. Moreouer I wyl not destroy from henceforthe all that lyueth as I haue done.

¹⁴ What is man, that he shoulde be cleane? what hath he (whiche is borne of a woman) wherby he myght be knowne to be ryghtuous? ¹⁵ Beholde there is no trust to hys sanctes: ye the very heauens are not cleane in hys syght. ¹⁶ How much more then an abhominalbe and vyle man, which drincketh wickednesse lyke water?

⁵ Beholde, I was borne in wickednesse, & in synne hath my mother conceyued me.

¹ To the chaunter vpon Mahalath, an instruccyon of Dauid. The folysh bodyes saye in their hertes: Tush, there is no God. Corrupte are they & become abhomynable in their wyckednesse: there is not one, that doth good. ² God loked downe from heauen vpon the chyldren of men, to se if there were any that would vnderstand, or seke after God. ³ But they are all gone out of the waye they are al become vnprofitable: ther is none that doth good, no not one.

²⁶ He that trusteth in his own hert, is a foole: but he that dealeth wysely, shal be safe.

³ Amonge all thynges that come to passe vnder the Sunne, this is a mysery, that it happeneth vnto all alyke. This is the cause also that the hertes of men are ful of wyckednes, and mad folishnes is in their hertes as longe as they liue, vntyl they dye.

¹² And ye with youre shamefull blasphemyes, haue exceaded the wyckednes of youre fathers. For euery one of you foloweth the frowarde and euell ymagynacyon of his owne herte, and is not obedient vnto me.

¹⁵ For this people hertes are waxed grosse, and their eares were dull of hearynge, and their eyes haue they closed, lest they should se with their eyes, and heare with their eares, and shoulde vnderstand with their hertes, & should tourne that I myght heale them.

¹⁹ For out of the hert come euil thoughtes, murther, breakyng of wedlocke, whoredom, thefte, false, witnes bearing, blasphemye.

²¹ For from within, euen out of the herte of men, procede euel thoughtes: aduoutry, fornication, murther, ²² theft, coueteousnes, wickednes, deceyte: vncleanenesse and a wicked eye, blasphemy, pryde, folishenes:

¹² Take hede brethren, that there be in none of you an euyll herte in vnbeleue, that he shoulde departe from the lyuinge God:

¹⁴ But euerye man is tempted, drawne awaye, & entysed of hys owne concupiscence. ¹⁵ Then when luste hath conceyued, she bringeth forth sinne, & sinne when it is fynyshed bryngeth forthe death.

⁷ But the Lorde sayde vnto Samuel: loke not on his fashion nor on the height of hys stature, for I haue refused hym. Because it is not as man seyth. For man loketh on the outward apperaunce, but the Lorde beholdeth the harte.

⁹ And thou Salomon my sonne: knowe God thy father, and serue hym with a pure hert, and lust of soule. For the Lorde searcheth all hertes, and vnderstandeth all the Imaginacyons of thoughtes. If thou shalte seke hym, he wylbe founde of the: But & yf thou forsake hym, he wyll caste the of for euer.

¹⁷ I wote my God, that thou prouest the herte, and hast pleasure in playnesse. And in playnesse of myne herte I haue wyllynglye geuen all thys. And now I se thy people whiche are here in gladnesse, to offer wyllyngly to the.

³⁰ thou shalte heare from heauen thy dwellyng place and shalte be mercyfull, and geue euery man accordynge vnto all hys waye, euen as thou shalte knowe euery mannes herte: for thou onelye knoweste the hertes of the chyldren of Adam:

⁹ Oh let the wickednes of the vngodly come to an ende: but maynteyne the iust, thou rightuous God, that triest the very hertes and the reynes.

¹² That thou Lorde arte mercyfull, and that thou rewardeste euerye man accordynge to his worckes.

¹ To the chaunter, a Psalme of Dauid. O Lorde, thou searchest me out, and knowest me. ² Thou knowest my doune sittyng and myne vprysinge, thou vnderstandest my thoughtes a farre of.

²³ Trye me, O God, and seke the grounde of myne herte: proue me, and examen my thoughtes. ²⁴ Loke well if there be any way of wickednesse in me, and leade me in the way euerlastynge.

³ Lyke as syluer is tryed in the fyre and golde in the fornace, euen so doeth the Lorde proue the hertes.

¹⁰ Then shall they saye. O happye are the godly, for they maye enioye the frutes of theyr studyes. ¹¹ But wo be to the vngodlye & vnryghtuous for they shall be rewarded after theyr worckes.

²⁰ Therfore I wyll beseche the now (O Lord of hostes) thou rightuous iudge, thou that tryest the reynes and the hertes: lett me se the aunged of them, for vnto the haue I committed my cause.

¹² And now, O Lorde of Hostes, thou ryghtuous sercher (which knowest the reynes and the very hertes:) let me se them punished, for vnto the I commytte my cause.

¹⁴ For I wyll vyset you (sayeth the Lorde) because of the wickednes of youre inuencions and wyll kyndle soch a fyre in youre wod, as shall consume all, that is aboute you.

¹⁹ Thou art the greate and myghtie God, whose name is the Lorde of Hostes, greate in counsel, and infinite in thought. Thine eyes loke vpon all the wayes of mens chyldren, to rewarde euery one after his waye, and according to the frutes of his inuencyons.

¹³ Not withstandynge the land must be wasted, because of them that dwell therein, and for the frutes of theyr owne Imaginacyons.

²⁷ For the sonne of man shall come in the glorye of hys father, wyth hys aungels: & then shall he rewarde euery man accordyng to his dedes.

²⁵ and neded not that any man shuld testyfy of man. For he knew what was in man.

⁶ whyche wyll rewarde euerye man according to hys dedes: ⁷ that is to say, prayse, honoure and immortalytye, to them whyche continue in good doynge and seke eternall lyfe. ⁸ But vnto them that are rebellious and disobey the trueth, and folowe iniquitie, shall come indignacion and wrath,

²¹ What fruit had ye then in those thynges, where of ye are nowe ashamed. For the ende of those thynges is deathe.

²⁷ And he that searcheth the hertes knoweth what is the meanynge of the spirite: for he maketh intercession for the sayntes accordinge to the pleasure of God.

⁷ Be not deceyued, God is not mocked. For what soeuer a man soweth, that shal he reape. ⁸ He that soweth in hys fleshe: shall of the fleshe reape corrupcion. But he that soweth in the spyryte, shall of the spyryte reape lyfe euerlastynge.

¹² For the word of God is quicke and myghty in operacion, and sharper then anye two edged swerde, and entreth through, euen vnto the diuiding a sonder of the soule and the spirite, and of the ioyntes and the marie, and iudgeth the thoughtes and the ententes of the herte: ¹³ neyther is there anye creature inuisible in the syght of him. For all thinges are naked and bare vnto the eyes of him, of whom we speake.

²³ And I will kyl her chyldren wyth death. And all the congregacions shal know, that I am he, whiche searched the reynes and hertes. And I will geue vnto euery one of you according vnto youre workes.

¹² And I sawe the deade, both great and small stande before God: & the bokes were opened, & an other boke was opened, which is the boke of lyfe, and the dead were iudged of those thynges: which were wrytten in the bokes accordyng to theyr deedes:

¹² And beholde I come shortlye, & my rewarde wyth me, to geue euerye man accordynge as hys dedes shall be.

²³ But as for them, thou (O God) shalt cast doune into the pytte of destruccion. The bloudthrustye & disceatfull shall not lyue out half their dayes. Neuerthelesse my trust is in the.

¹⁸ Yea, they themselfes laye wayte one for anothers bloud, & one of them wolde sley another. ¹⁹ These are the ways of all suche as be couetous, that one wolde rauish anothers life.

¹¹ Hastely gotten goodes are sone spent, but they that be gathered together with the hand, shall increase

²⁷ The couetous man roteth vp his owne house, but who so hateth rewardes shall liue.

⁶ Who so hoordeth vp ryches wyth the disceatfulnes of his tonge, he is a foole, and lyke vnto them that seke their own death.

⁵ Why wylt thou set thyne eie vpon the thing, which sodenly vanysheth awaye? For ryches make them selues wynges, & take their flight lyke an Aegle into the ayre.

⁸ Who so increaseth hys ryches by vauntage and wynnynge, let hym gather them to helpe the poore wyth al.

¹⁶ Wher the prynce is wythout vnderstandyng, ther is greate oppression and wronge: but if he be such one as hateth couetousnesse he shall longe raygne.

²⁰ A faithfull man is greatlye to be commended, but he that maketh to much haste for to be rych, shall not be vngyltye.

²² He that wyll be ritch all to soone, hath an euell eye, and considereth not, that pouertye shall come vpon him.

¹³ Yet is there a sore plague, whiche I haue sene vnder the sunne (namely) ryches kept to the hurt of him that hath them in possession. ¹⁴ For oft tymes they perishe with his greate misery & trouble: and if he haue a chylde, it getteth nothynge. ¹⁵ Lyke as he came naked out of his mothers wombe, so goeth he thyther agayn, and carieth nothing away with hym of all his labour. ¹⁶ This is a miserable plage, that he shal go away euen as he came. What helpeth it hym then, that he hath labored in the wynde?

²³ Thy prynces are traytours and companyons of theues. They loue gyftes altogether, & folowe rewardes. As for the fatherles, they helpe hym not to hys ryght, nether wyll they let the wydowes causes come before them. ²⁴ Therfore speaketh the Lorde God of hostes the myghtye one of Israel: Ah I muste ease me of myne enemyes, and avenge me vpon them.

²⁷ And lyke as a net is ful of byrdes, so are their houses full of that which they haue gotten wt falshed and disceyte. Hereof commeth theyr greate substaunce and ryches, ²⁸ hereof are they fat and welthy, and are runne awaye fro me wyth shameful blasphemyes. They mynistre not the lawe, they make no ende of the fatherlesses cause, they iudge not the poore according to equite.

¹³ Wo worth him, that buyldeth hys house with vnrightuousnes, and hys parlers with the good that he hath gotten by violence: which neuer recompenseth hys neyghbours laboure, ner payeth hym his hyre.

¹⁷ Neuertheles, as for thyne eyes & thine herte, they loke vpon couetousnesse, to shede innocent bloude, to do wronge and violence.

¹² yea gyftes haue bene receyued in the, to shede bloude. Thou haste taken vsury and encreace, thou haste oppressed thy neyghbours by extorcion, and forgotten me, sayeth the Lorde God. ¹³ Beholde, I haue smitten my handes vpon thy couetousnesse, that thou hast vsed, and vpon the bloude whyche hath bene shed in the.

⁷ But the marchaunte hath a false weyght in his hande, he hath a pleasure to occupye extorsion. ⁸ Ephraim thinketh thus: Tush, I am ryche, I haue good ynoughe. In all my worckes shall not one fawte be founde, that I haue offended.

¹⁰ saith the Lorde: they gather together euyll gotten goodes, and laye vp robbery in theyr houses.

⁴ Heare this, O ye that oppresse the poore, and destroye the nedy in the lande, saying: ⁵ When wil the new moneth be gone, that we maye sell vytale, & the Sabboth, that we maye haue scarcenesse of corne: to make the busshell lesse, and the Sycle greater? ⁶ We shal set vp false waightes that we maye gett the poore vnder vs wyth their money, and the nedy also for shues: yee let vs sell the chaffe for corne.

¹ O wo vnto them, that Imagyn to do harme, & deuyse vngracyousnesse vpon their beddes, to perfourme it in the cleare daye: for there power is agaynst God. ² When they couet to haue lande, they take it by vyolence, they robbe men of their houses. Thus they oppresse a man for his house, & euery man for hys heretage.

⁹ the wemen of my people haue ye shot out from their good houses, and taken away my excellent gyftes from their chyldren.

¹⁰ Shulde I not be displeased, for the vnrightuous good in the houses of the wycked, and because the measure hys mynyshed? ¹¹ Or shulde I iustifie the false balaunces and the bagge of disceytfull weyghtes, ¹² amonge those that be full of ryches vnryghtuously gotten: where the cyte syns deale with falshede, speake lies, & haue dysceytfull tunges in their mouthes?

³ yet they saye: they do well, when they do euil. As the prince wyll, so sayeth the iudge: that he maye do him a pleasure agayne. The greate man speaketh what his herte desyreth: & the hearers alowe hym.

⁶ But shall not all these take vp a prouerbe agaynst hym, & mocke hym with a byworde & saye: Wo vnto hym that heapeth vp other mens goodes? Howe longe wyll he lade hym selfe with thicke claye? ⁷ O howe sodenly wyll they stand vp that shall byte, and awake, that shal teare the in peces? yea, thou shalt be their praye. ⁸ Seynge thou hast spoyled many Heathen, therfore shall the remuaunte of the people spoyle the: because of mens bloude, and for the wronge done in the lande, in the cytye and vnto all them that dwell therein. ⁹ Wo vnto hym, that couetouslye gathereth euyll gotten goodes into hys house: that he maye set hys neste an hye, to escape from the power of mysfortune. ¹⁰ Thou hast deuysed the shame of thyne owne house, for thou haste slayne to muche people, and hast wylfully offended, ¹¹ so that the very stones of the wall shall crye oute of it, and the tymbre that lyeth betwixte the ioyntes of the buyldynge shal aunswere. ¹² Wo vnto hym, that buyldeth the towne wyth bloude, & maintaineth the citie wyth vnryghtuousnes.

⁹ In the same daye also wyll I vyset all those, that treade ouer the thresholde so proudely, which fyll theyr Lordes house with trobbery and falshede.

⁴ I wyl bring it forth (sayeth the Lorde of hostes) so that it shall come to the house of the these, and to the house of hym, that falselye sweareth by my name, and shall remayne in hys house, and consume it, with the timbre & stones thereof.

⁹ Thus sayeth the Lord of Hostes: Execute true iudgement: shew mercy & louinge kindnesse, euery man to his brother. ¹⁰ Do the widdow, the fatherlesse, the straunger, and poore no wronge: and let no man ymagen euil against his brother in his hert. ¹¹ Neuertheles they would not take hede, but turned their backes, & stopped their eares, that they should not heare: ¹² yea, they made their hertes as an Adamant stone, least they should hear the law & wordes, whiche the Lorde of hostes sent in his holy spirite by the Prophetes afore tyme. Wherfore the Lorde of hostes was verye wroth at them. ¹³ And thus it is come to passe, that like as he spake, & they woulde not hear: euen so they cryed, and I woulde not heare, (sayeth the Lord of hostes)

⁵ I wil come and punish you, and I my selfe will be a swyf wytnes against the witches, agaynst the aduouterers, agaynste false swearers: yea, and agaynst those, that wrongeouslye kepe backe the hyrelinges dewtye: which vexe the widdowes and the fatherlesse and oppresse the straunger, and feare not me, sayeth the Lord of Hostes.

¹³ Wo be vnto you Scribes and Phariseis, hypocrites, for ye shut vp the kyngdome of heauen before men: ye youre selues go not in, neyther suffer ye them that come to enter in.

²⁰ But God sayed vnto hym: Thou fole, thys nyghte wyll they fetche awaye thy soule agayne from the. Then whose shall these thinges be which thou haste prouyded?

⁹ They that wyll be rych, fall into temptacyon and snares, and into many folysh and noysome lustes which drowne men in perdicyon and destruccyon.

¹¹ whose mouthes must be stopped: whiche peruerte whole houses teachynge thynges whiche they oughte not because of fylthy lucre.

³ Your gold and your siluer are cankered, & the ruste of them shal be a witnes vnto you, and shall eate your fleshe, as it were fyre. Ye haue heaped treasure together in your laste dayes: ⁴ Beholde the hyre of the labourers which haue reped doun your fieldes (which hyer is of you kept backe by fraude) crieth: & the cryes of them whiche haue reped, are entred into the eares of the Lorde Sabaoth ⁵ Ye haue lyued in pleasure on the earth, & in wantonnes. Ye haue norished your hertes, as in a day of slaughter

³ and thorowe couetousnes shal they wyth fayned wordes make marchaundyse of you, whose iudgement is not farre of, and theyr dampnacion slepeth not.

¹⁴ hauinge eyes full of aduoutrye, and that can not cease to synne, begilinge vnstable soules. Hertes they haue exercised with couetousues. They are cursed children,

⁵ And the house which I buyld, is great: for great is oure God aboue all Goddes: ⁶ So that wo can be able to buylde hym an house: when that heauen, neyther heauen aboue all heauens is able to receyue hym, what am I then that I shulde buylde hym an house? nay, but to burne sacryfyce before hym:

⁶ Thankesgeuynge and worshippe are before hym, power & honoure are in hys Sanctuary.

¹⁹ The Lorde hath prepared his seate in heauen, and his kingedome ruleth ouer all.

¹ In the same yeare the kynge Oziah dyed, I sawe the Lorde sytting vpon an high & gloryous seate, and hys trayne fylled the palace.

¹ Thus sayeth the Lorde: Heauen is my seat, and the earth is my fote stole Where shal nowe the house stande, that ye wyll buylde vnto me. And where shalbe the place, that I dwell in?

¹⁷ Then shal Ierusalem be called the Lordes seate, and all Heathen shalbe gathered vnto it, for the name of the Lordes sake, whyche shalbe set vp at Ierusalem. And from that tyme forth, they shal folow no more the ymaginacion of their owne frowarde herte.

²¹ Be not dyspleased (O Lorde) for thy names sake, forgett not thy louynge kyndnes: Remembre the trone of thyne honoure, breake not the couenaunt, that thou hast made with vs.

²⁶ Aboue the firmament that was ouer their heades, there was the fashyon of a seate, as it had bene made of Saphir. Vpon the seate there sat one lyke a man.

⁷ that sayde vnto me: O thou sonne of man, this rowme is my seate, and the place of my fotesteppes: where as I wyll dwell amonge the chyldren of Israell for euermore: so that the house of Israell shall nomore defyle my holye name: nether they, ner their kynges, thorowe their whordome, thorowe their hye places, and thorowe the deed bodyes of their Kynges:

³¹ When the sonne of man cometh in hys glorye, and all the holye aungels with him, then shall he sytte vpon the seate of his glory,

¹⁶ Let vs therfore go boldely vnto the seate of grace, that we may receiue mercye, and fynde grace to healpe in time of nede.

² lokynge vnto Iesus the author and fynysher of our fayth, whiche for the ioye that was set before hym, abode the crosse, and despised the same, and is set doune on the ryght hande of the throne of God.

²¹ To hym that ouercommeth, wyl I graunt to sit with me in my seate euen as I ouercame and haue sitten wyth my father, in his seate.

⁴ Oure fathers hoped in the, they trusted in the, and thou dyddest deliuer them.

⁸ They shalbe satisfied with the plenteousnesse of thy house, and thou shalte geue them drynke of the ryuer of thy pleasures. ⁹ For by the is the wel of lyfe, and in thy lyght, shall we se lyght.

²⁷ For lo, they that forsake the shall perysh: thou destroyest all them that committe fornicacion agaynst the.

⁷ Confounded be all thei that worship ymages, and delyte in their Idols: worship him all ye Goddes.

⁷ The memoryall of the iust shall haue a good reporte but the name of the vngodly shal styncke.

¹⁴ An vnfaythful personne shalbe filled wyth hys owne wayes, but a good man wyl beware of suche.

²⁸ For the transgressours and vngodlye, and suche as are become vnfaythfull vnto the Lorde, muste altogether be vtterlye destroyed.

¹⁶ Confounded be ye, and put to dishonour: go hence together with shame, all ye that be worckmaysters of erroure: (that is worshippers of Idols) ¹⁷ But Israell shalbe saued in the Lorde, which is the euerlastinge saluacion: They shall not come to shame ner confusyon, worlde without ende.

¹¹ But as for you, ye are they, that haue forsaken the Lorde, and forgotten my holy hil. Ye haue set vs an aulter vnto fortune, and geuen ryche drincke offerynges vnto treasure. ¹² Therfore will I nombre you with the swerde, that ye shalbe destroyed altogether. For when I called, noman gaue me answere: when I spake, ye herkened not vnto me, but dyd wyckednes before myne eyes, & chose the thing that pleased me not. ¹³ Therfore thus saieth the Lorde God: Beholde, my seruauntes shall eate, but ye shall haue honger. Beholde, my seruauntes shall dryncke, but ye shall suffre thurste. Beholde my seruauntes shalbe mery, but ye shalbe confounded. ¹⁴ Beholde, my seruauntes shall reioyce for very quyetnesse of herte: But ye shal crye for sorowe of herte, and complayne for vexacyon of mynde.

⁵ Heare the worde of God all ye, that feare the thynge whyche he speaketh. Your brethren that hate you, and cast you out for my names sake, saye: Let the Lorde magnyfye him selfe, that we may see youre gladnesse: and yet they shalbe confounded.

¹³ For my people hath done two euyls. They haue forsaken me the well of the water of life and dygged them pyttes, yea vyle & broken pittes, that holde no water.

¹⁷ Commeth not this vnto the, because thou hast forsaken the Lorde thy God, euer sence he led the by the waye.

²⁶ Lyke as a thefe that is taken with the dede commeth to shame, euen so is the house of Israell come to confusyon, the comen people their kynges and rulers, their priestes & prophetes. ²⁷ For they saye to a stocke: thou art my father, and to a stone: thou hast be gotten me, yea they haue turned their backe vpon me, & not their face. But in the tyme of their trouble, when they saye: stande vp, and helpe vs,

⁸ For thou art the comforte & helpe of Israel in the tyme of trouble. Why wilt thou be as a straunger in the Lande, and as one that goeth ouer the felde, and commeth in onely to remayne for a night?

⁵ Thus sayeth the Lorde: Cursed be the man that putteth his trust in man, & that taketh flesh for hys arme: and he, whose herte departeth from the Lorde.

¹⁷ Be not now terryble vnto me, O Lorde, for thou art he in whom I hope, when I am in parell.

⁶³ that thou mayest thyncke vpon it, be ashamed, and excuse thine owne confusyon no more: when I haue forgeuen the, all that thou hast done, sayeth the Lorde God.

³² But I wyll not do this for youre sakes (sayeth the Lorde God) be ye sure of it. Therfore, O ye house of Israell, be ashamed of your synnes.

² Many of them that slepe in the dust of the earth, shal awake: some to euerlastinge lyfe, some to perpetual shame and reprofe.

¹⁶ The Lorde shal roare oute of Syon, and crye oute of Ierusalem, that the heauens & the earthe shall quake wythal. But the Lorde shalbe a defence vnto his owne people, & a refuge for the chyldren of Israel.

²⁰ Neuerthelesse, in thys reioyse not that the spirites are vnder youre power: but reioyse because your names are written in heauen.

¹⁰ Iesus aunswered & sayd vnto hyr: if thou kneweste the gyfte of God, and who it is that sayeth to the geue me drynke, thou wouldeste haue axed of hym, and he woulde haue geuen the water of lyfe.

¹⁴ But whosoeuer shall drinke of the water that I shall geue hym, shall neuer be more a thyrste: but the water that I shall geue him, shall be in him a well of water, springinge vp into euerlasting lyfe.

³⁷ In the last day, that great daye of the feaste Iesus stode and cried saiynge: If a man thirste, let him come vnto me and drinke. ³⁸ He that beleueth on me, as sayeth the scripture, out of hys bellye shall flowe riuers of water of lyfe.

⁶ And this they sayed to tempte hym, that they myghte haue, whereof to accuse hym. Iesus stouped doune, and with hys fynger wrote on the ground. ⁷ And whyle they continued axynge hym, he lyfte hym selfe vp, and sayd vnto them: let hym that is amonge you without synne caste the fyrst stone at her. ⁸ And agayne he stouped doune, and wrote on the grounde.

²⁰ For thys cause haue I called for you, euen to se you, and to speake wyth you: because that for the hope of Israell, I am bounde wyth thys chayne.

¹ Paule an Apostle of Iesus Christe, by the commaundemente of God our sauyour, and Lord Iesus christ whiche is oure hope.

¹⁷ For the lambe, which is in the middes of the seate shall feede them, and shall leade them vnto fountaynes of lyuinge water, and God shall wype awaye al teares from theyr eyes.

¹⁵ And who so euer was not founde wrytten in the boke of lyfe, was caste into the lake of fyre.

⁶ And he said vnto me: it is done, I am Alpha & Omega, the beginning & the ende. I will geue to hym that is a thyrst of the wel of the water of lyfe free.

¹ And he shewed me a pure ryuer of water of life cleare as cristal: procedyng out of the seat of god and of the lambe.

¹⁷ And the spiryte and the bride said: come. And let him that heareth, saye also come. And let hym that is a thyrste, come. And let whosoeuer wyll, take of the water of lyfe, fre.

²¹ for he is thy prayse and he is thy God that hathe done these greate & terrible thynges for the, whych thine eyes haue sene.

³⁹ Se nowe howe that I, I am he, and that there is no God but I. I can kyll and make a lyue, and what I haue smytten that I can heale: neyther is there that can deliuer anye man out of my hande.

² Haue mercye vpon me (O Lorde) for I am weake: O Lorde heale me for all my bones are vexed.

⁴ Turne the (O Lord) and deliuer my soule Oh saue me for thy mercyes sake.

⁴ Which saye: oure tonge shoulde preuayle we are they that oughte too speake, who is Lord ouer vs?

⁵ That thy beloued myghte be delyuered, healpe them wyt thy ryghthande, and heare me.

⁴⁷ Delyuer vs, O Lorde oure God, and gather vs from amonge the Heathen: that we maye geue thanckes to thy holye name, and make our boast of thy prayse.

¹ To the chaunter, a Psalme of Dauyd. Holde not thy tong: O God of my praise.

¹⁴ He exalteth the horne of his people, all hys saynctes shall prayse hym, the chyldren of Israell, euen the people that serueth him. Prayse the euerlastyng.

¹⁰ Harden the hart of thys people, stoppe theyr eares, and shutte theyr eyes, that they se not with theyr eyes, heare not wyth theyr eares, and vnderstande not wyth theyr hertes, and conuerte and be healed.

¹⁸ But yf I may se his right way againe, I make hym whole, I lede him and restore him vnto them, whome he maketh ioyfull, and that were sorye for him. ¹⁹ I make the frutes of thankesgeuynge. I geue peace vnto them that are farre of, and to them that are nye. saye I the Lord, that make hym whole.

²⁰ & so shall I make the a stronge wall of stele agaynst this people. They shall fyght agaynst the, but they shall not preuayle. For I my selfe will be with the, to helpe the, and delyuer the, sayeth the Lorde.

¹⁸ Moreouer I hearde Ephraim, that was led awaye captyue, complayne on thys maner: O Lorde, thou haste correcte me, and thy chastening haue I receyued, as an vntamed calfe. Conuerte thou me, and I shalbe conuerted, for thou arte my Lorde God:

²⁵ And his discyples came vnto him, and awoke him sayinge: master saue vs, we peryshe.

³⁰ But when he saw a mighty wynd, he was afrayed. And as he began to synke, he cried saying: master, saue me.

¹⁸ The spyryte of the Lorde vpon me, because he hath anointed me: to preache the gospell to the poore he hath sent me, and to heale the broken herted, to preache deliueraunce to the captiue, and syght to the blynde, and frely to set at lyberte them that are brused,

¹⁹ Whiche vse to speake on thys maner: let hym make haste nowe, & go forthe with his worcke, that we maye se it. Let the councell of the holye one of Israel come, and draw nye, that we maye knowe it.

⁷ O Lorde, thou makest me weake, but thou refreshest me, & makest me stronge agayne. All the daye longe am the despysed, & laughed to scorne of euery man: ⁸ because I haue now preached longe agaynst malycious Tyranny, & shewed them of destruccion. For the which cause they cast the worde of the Lorde in my teeth, and take me euer to the worst.

²² Thou sonne of man, what maner of byworde is that, whiche ye vse in the lande of Israel, sayinge: Thus, seynge that the dayes are so slacke in commynge, all the visyons are of none effecte:

²⁷ Beholde, thou sonne of man: The house of Israel saye in this maner: Tushe, as for the vysion that he hath sene, it wil be many a day or it come to passe: Is it farre of it, the thyng that he prophecyeth. ²⁸ Therfore say vnto them: Thus sayth the Lorde GOD: All my wordes shall no more be slacke: Loke what I speake, that same shall come to passe, sayeth the Lorde.

¹⁸ Wo be vnto them that desyre the daye of the Lorde, Wherfore wold ye haue it? As for the daye of the Lorde, it shal be darcke and not cleare:

³ This fyrst vnderstande, that there shall come in the laste dayes mockers, which wyll walke after their own lustes ⁴ and say. Where is the promes of hys comminge? For sence the fathers dyed, al thinges continue in the same estate, wherin they were at the beginninge.

⁴ The worde of the Lord spake thus vnto me: ⁵ Before I fashyoned the in thy mothers wombe, I did know the. And or euer thou wast borne, I sanctifyed the, and ordeyned the, to be a Prophete vnto the people. ⁶ Then sayde I: Oh Lorde God, I am vnmete, for I am yet but younge. ⁷ And the Lorde answered me thus: Saye not so, I am to younge. For thou shalt go to al that I shall sende the vnto, and whatsoeuer I commaund the, that shalt thou speake. ⁸ Be not afrayed of their faces, for I wilbe with the, to delyuer the, sayeth the Lorde. ⁹ And with that, the Lorde stretched oute his hande, and touched my mouthe, and sayde moreouer vnto me. Beholde I put my wordes in thy mouth, ¹⁰ & this daye do I set the ouer the people & kingedomes, that thou mayest rote oute, breake of, destroye, & make waste: and that thou mayest buylde vp and plante.

¹⁹ Ah my belye, ah my belye, (shalt thou crye) how is my hert so sore? my herte painteth within me, I can not be styl, for I haue hearde the cryeng of the trompettes and peales of warre. ²⁰ They crye murthur vpon murthur, the whole lande shall perishe. Immediatly my tentes were destroied, and my hanginges, in the twinckelinge of an eye.

¹ O who wil geue my heade water ynough, and a wel of teares for myne eyes: that I may wepe night and day, for the slaughter of my people?

¹⁷ But yf ye wyll not heare me, that geue you secrete warnyng, I will mourne fro my whole hert for youre stubburnesse. Pyteouslye wyll I wepe, and the teares shall gusshe out of myne eyes. For the Lordes flocke shall be caryed awaye captyue.

¹⁷ This shalt thou saye also vnto them: Myne eyes shall wepe without ceassynge daye and night. For my people shalbe destroyed wyth great harme, and shall perysh wyth a great plage. ¹⁸ For yf I go in to the felde, lo, it lyeth all full of slayne men. If I come in to the cytye, lo, they be all fameshed of honger. Yee their prophetes also and prestes shall be led in to an vnknowne lande. ¹⁹ Haste thou then vtterlye forsaken Iuda? (sayde I) Doest thou so abhorre Syon? Or hast thou so plaged vs, that we can be healed nomore? We loked for peace, and there commeth no good: for the tyme of health, and lo, here is nothynge but trouble: ²⁰ We knowlege (O Lorde) all oure mysdedes, & the synnes of oure fathers, that we haue offended the. ²¹ Be not dyspleased (O Lorde) for thy names sake, forgett not thy louynge kyndnes: Remembre the trone of thyne honoure, breake not the couenaunt, that thou hast made with vs.

²⁰ Do they not recompence euell for good, when they dygg a pyt for my soule? Remembre, how that I stode before the, to speake for them, and to turne awaye thy wrath from them.

⁹ Wherfore, I thought from hence forth, not to speake of hym, ner to preach eny more in hys name. But the worde of the Lorde was a very burnynge fyre in my herte and in my bones, which when I wolde haue stopped I might not.

¹⁴ Now when the sprete toke me vp, and caried me awaye, I wente with an heuy and a sorowfull mynde, but the hande of the Lorde comforted me ryght soone. ¹⁵ And so in the begynnynge of the moneth Abib, I came to the presoners, that dwelt by the water of Cobar, and remayned in that place, where they were: And so contynued I amonge them seuen dayes, beinge verye sory. ¹⁶ And when the seuen dayes were expired, the Lord sayde vnto me: ¹⁷ Thou sonne of man I haue made the a watchman vnto the house of Israell: therfore take good hede to the wordes, and geue them warnyng at my commaundement. ¹⁸ If I sayde vnto the, concernynge the vngodly man: that (wythout doute) he muste dye, and thou geuest hym not warnynge, ner speakest vnto hym, that he maye turne from hys euell waye, and so to lyue: Then shalll the same vngodly man dye in hys owne vnryghtuousnes: but hys bloude wyll I requyre of thyne hande. ¹⁹ Neuertheles, yf thou geue warnynge vnto the wycked, and he yet forsake not his vngodlynesse: then shall he dye in his owne wyckednesse, but thou hast discharged thy soule.

⁷ And now (O thou sonne of man) I haue made the a watcheman vnto the house of Israell: that where as thou hearest anye thynge oute of my mouthe, thou mayest warne them on my behalfe. ⁸ If I say vnto the wicked thou wycked, thou shalte surelye dye: & thou geuest hym not warnynge, that he maye bewarre of his vngodly waye: then shall the wicked dye in hys owne synne, but hys bloude wyll I requyre of thy hand. ⁹ Neuertheles yf thou warne the wycked of hys waye, to turne from it, where as he yet will not be turned from it, then shall he dye because of hys synne, but thou haste delyuered thy soule.

¹⁴ Amos aunswered, and sayde to Amasiah: As for me I am neyther Prophet, nor prophetes sonne: but a keper of catell. Now as I was breakinge downe molberies, and goyng after the catell, ¹⁵ the Lorde toke me, and sayde vnto me: Go thy waye, and prophecye vnto my people of Israel.

²⁰ and howe I kept backe nothyng that was profytable, but that I haue shewed you, and taughte you openlye, and at home in your houses,

²⁷ For I haue kept nothynge backe, but haue shewed you all the counsell of God.

¹ I say the trueth in Christe and lye not, in that where of my conscience beareth me wytnes in the holy goste, ² that I haue great heauines and continuall sorowe in my hert. ³ For I haue wyshed my selfe to be cursed from Christ, for my brethren and my kynsmen (as pertaynynge to the fleshe)

¹² Oure reioysinge is this, the testimony of oure conscience, that in synglenes and Godly purenes, and not in fleshely wysdome, but by the grace of God, we haue had oure conuersation in the worlde, and moste of all to youwardes.

¹⁷ For we are not as many are which choppe & chaunge with the worde of god: but euen out of purenes, and by the power of God, and in the syghte of God, so speake we in Christe.

¹⁹ Wherfore deare brethren, let euerye man be swyfte to heare, slowe to speake, and slow to wrath.

¹ My brethren be not euery man a mayster, remembrynge howe that we shal receyue the more damnacyon:

²³ For I haue euer feared the vengeaunce & punishement of God, & knew very wel, that I was no able to beare his burthen.

¹ To the chaunter, a Psalme of Dauid. Blessed is he, that consydereth the poore: the Lord shal deliuer him in the tyme of trouble.

¹⁶ As for me, I will synge of thy power, and prayse thy mercy by tymes in the mornyng: for thou art my defence & refuge in the tyme of my trouble.

² In the tyme of my trouble I soughte the Lorde, I helde vp myne handes vnto him in the night season, for my soule refused all other comforte. ³ When I was in heuinesse, I thought vpon God: when my hert was vexed, then dyd I speake Selah. ⁴ Thou heldest myne eyes wakyng, I was so feble, that I coulde not speake. ⁵ Then remembred I the tymes of old, and the yeares that were past. ⁶ I called to remembraunce my song in the night, I communed wyth myne owne herte, and sought out my spirite. ⁷ Wyll the Lorde cast out for euer? Wyl he be no more intreated? ⁸ Is hys mercye cleane gone? Is hys promyse come vtterlye to an ende for euermore? ⁹ Hath the Lord forgotten to be gracyous? Or, hath he shut vp hys louynge kyndnes in dyspleasure? Selah.

¹⁵ My strength is gone for very sorow & myserye, wyh fearfulnesse do I beare thy burthens. ¹⁶ Thy wrathfull dyspleasure goeth ouer me the feare of the, oppresseth me.

¹⁹ O Lorde, my strength, my power, and refuge in tyme of trouble. The Gentyles shall come vnto the from the endes of the worlde, and saye: Verely our fathers haue cleued vnto lyes, their Idols are but vayne & vnprofitable.

⁷ O blessed is the man, that putteth hys trust in the Lorde, and whose hope is the Lorde hym selfe.

¹³ Thou art the comforte of Israell. All they that forsake the, shal be confounded: all they that departe from the, shalbe wrytten in earth, for they haue forsaken the Lorde the very condyte of the waters of lyfe.

⁷ Full gracious is the Lorde, and a stronge holde in the tyme of trouble, he knoweth them that put their truste in hym:

¹³ For thys cause take vnto you the armoure of God, that ye maye be able to resiste in the euyl daye, and stande perfect in al thinges.

¹⁴ Ye hath geuen the one wounde vpon another, and is fallen vpon me lyke a giaunte.

² My God, I trust in the: Oh lette me not be confounded, leste myne enemyes tryumphe ouer me. ³ For all they that hope in the shall not be ashamed: but suche as be scornefull despysers without a cause they shall be put to confucyon.

⁴ Let them be confounded & put to shame, that seke after my soule: let theym be turned back and brought to confusion, that ymagin mischiefe for me.

⁸ Let a soden destruccion come vpon hym vnwares, & the nette that he had layed pryuely, catche hym selfe, that he maye fall into hys owne mischief.

²⁶ Let them be put to confusion & shame, that reioyse at my trouble: let them be clothed wt rebuke and dishonoure, that boost them selfes agaynst me. ²⁷ Let them also be glad and reioyse, that fauoure my righteous dealynge: yea, let them saye alwaye: blessed be the lord, whiche hath pleasure in the prosperitie of hys seruaunt.

¹⁴ Let them be ashamed and confunded, that seke after my soule, to destroye it: let them fall backwarde and be put to confusion, that wish me euell.

² Let them be shamed and confounded that seke after my soule let them be turned backward and put to confusyon, that wysh my euyl.

¹ In the, O Lord, is my trust, let me neuer be put to confusyon,

¹⁷ Let them be confounded and vexed euer more and more: let them be put to shame and perishe. ¹⁸ That they may know that thou art alone that thy name is the Lorde, & that thou onely art the moost hyest ouer all the earth.

¹⁷ This shalt thou saye also vnto them: Myne eyes shall wepe without ceassynge daye and night. For my people shalbe destroyed wyth great harme, and shall perysh wyth a great plage.

¹⁸ But firste wyll I sufficientlye rewarde their shamefull blasphemies and synnes, wherwyth they haue defyled my lande: Namely, wyth their stinckyng Idols and obhominacions, wherwith they haue fylled myne heretage.

¹⁶ Where as I neuertheles ledynge the flocke in thy wayes, haue compelled none by violence. For I neuer desyred eny mans deeth, this knowest thou well. My wordes also were right before the.

¹⁹ Consydre me, O Lorde, and heare the voyce of myne enemies. ²⁰ Do they not recompence euell for good, when they dygg a pyt for my soule? Remembre, how that I stode before the, to speake for them, and to turne awaye thy wrath from them. ²¹ Therfore let their chyldren dye of hunger and lett them be oppressed with the swearde. Let their wyues be robbed of their chyldren, and become widdowes: let their housbandes be slayne, lett their yonge men be kylled with the swearde in the felde. ²² Let the noyse be herde out of their houses, when the murtherer commeth sodenly vpon them: For they haue digged a pyt to take me, and layed snares for my fete. ²³ Yet Lorde, thou knowest all their councell, that they haue deuysed, to slaye me. And therfore forgeue them not their wyckednes, and let not their synne be put out of thy syght: but lett them be iudged before the as the gyltye: Thys shalt thou do vnto them in the tyme of thy indygnacyon.

¹¹ But the Lorde stode by me, lyke a myghtie giaunte: therfore my persecuters fell, and coulde do nothing. They shall be sore confounded, for they haue done vnwysely, they shall haue an euerlastynge shame.

⁶ Reward her euen as she rewarded you, & geue her double accordinge to her workes. And youre in double to her in the same cuppe, which she fylled vnto you.

²⁰ Wisdome crieth without, & putteth forth her voyce in the stretes. ²¹ She calleth before the congregacion in the open gates, & sheweth her wordes thorow the citie, saying: ²² O ye chyldren, how longe will ye loue chyldyshnesse? how long wil the, scorners delite in scorning & the vnwise be enemies vnto knowlege?

¹ Doth not wysdome crye? doeth not vnderstanding put forth her voyce?

³ She hath sent forth her maydens to crye vpon the hyest place of the citie:

² Stande vnder the gates of the Lordes house & crye oute these wordes there, wt a loude voyce, and saye: Heare the worde of the Lorde all ye of Iuda, that go in at thys dore, to honoure the Lord.

² in to the valley of the chyldren of Hennon, which lieth before the porte that is made of bryck, & shewe them there the wordes, that I shall tell the,

² Thus sayeth the Lorde: Stand in the courte of the Lordes house, and speake vnto all them whiche (oute of the cyties of Iuda) come to do worshyppe in the Lordes house, all the wordes that I commaunde the to saye. Loke that thou kepe not one worde backe,

⁶ therfore go you thyther, and reade the boke, that thou hast written at my mouth: Namely, the wordes of the Lorde, and reade them in the Lordes house vpon the fastynge day: that the people, whole Iuda, and al they that come out of the cyties, maye heare.

¹⁰ Then read Baruch the wordes of Ieremye oute of the boke within the house of the lorde, out of the treasury of Gamariah the sonne of Saphan the Scrybe, whiche is besyde the hyer lofte of the new dore of the lordes house: that al the people myght heare.

²⁰ go, steppe forthe, and speake in the temple to the people all the wordes of this lyfe.

¹ To the chaunter, a Psalme of the chyldren of Corah. O heare thys, all ye people: pondre it wel, all ye that dwel vpon the earth. ² Hye & lowe, & rych & poore, one wyth another.

¹⁸ Tell the kynge and the rulers: Humble youre selues, sett you downe lowe, for the crowne of youre glory shall fall from your head.

³ & saye thus vnto them: Heare the worde of the Lorde, ye kynges of Iuda, and ye cytesyns of Ierusalem: Thus sayeth the Lord of Hostes the God of Israel: Beholde, I will bring soche a plage vpon this place, that the eares of all that heare it, shall glowe.

² & saye: Heare the worde of the Lorde, thou kyng of Iuda that syttest in the kyngly seate of Dauid: thou and thy seruauntes and thy people, that go in and out at this gate.

⁷ Se that thou speake my wordes vnto them, whether they be obedyent or not, for they are obstynate.

¹⁷ Thou sonne of man I haue made the a watchman vnto the house of Israell: therfore take good hede to the wordes, and geue them warnyng at my commaundement.

¹ O ye priestes: hear this, take hede o thou houshold of Israel: geue eare, O thou kyngly house: for thys punyshemente will come vpon you, that are become a snare vnto Myzphah, and a spred net to the mount of Thabor.

¹ O heare thys worde ye fat kyne, that be vpon the hil of Samaria: ye that do poore men wronge, and oppresse the nedy: ye that saye to your Lordes: bring hyther, let vs drincke.

¹ Heare, O ye heades of the house of Iacob, & peleders of the house of Israel: Shulde not ye know what were lawfull and ryght?

²⁹ Let hym that hath eares, heare what the spyryte sayeth to the congregations.

³² And whyle the children of Israel were in the wyldernesse, they found a man gatherynge styckes vpon the Sabothe daye. ³³ And they that founde hym gatherynge styckes, brought hym vnto Moses and Aaron & vnto all the congregation: ³⁴ and they put him in warde, for it was not declared what should be done vnto hym. ³⁵ And the Lorde saied vnto Moses: the man shal dye: let al the multitude stone him with stones without the host. ³⁶ And all the multitude brought hym wythout the host and stoned hym wyth stones, & he dyed as the Lord commaunded Moses.

⁹ Take hede to thy selfe therfore only & kepe thy soule diligently, that thou forget not the thynges whych thyne eyes haue sene, & that they departe not oute of thyne herte, all the dayes of thy lyfe: but teach them thy sonnes and thy sonnes sonnes.

¹⁵ Take hede vnto youre selues diligentlye as pertaynynge vnto youre Soules, for ye sawe no maner of ymage the daye when the Lorde spake vnto you in Horeb out of the fire lest ye marre your selues

²³ Take hede to your selues therefore, that ye forgett not the appoyntment of the Lorde your god which he made with you, & that ye make you no grauen ymage of whatoeuer it be that the Lorde thy God hath forbydden the.

¹⁶ But beware that youre hertes deceyue you not that ye turne asyde and serue straunge Gods & worshyp them,

¹¹ Take good hede therfor vnto youre soules, that ye loue the Lord your God.

¹⁵ At the same tyme sawe I some tredynge wynepresses on the Saboth, and bryngynge in clusters, and asses laden wyth wyne, grapes, fygges, and bryngynge al maner of burthens vnto Ierusalem, vpon the Saboth day. And I rebuked them earnestlye the same daye that they solde the vytayles. ¹⁶ There dwelt men of Tyre also therein, whiche brought fyshe & all maner of ware, and solde on the Sabboth vnto the chyldren of Iuda, and Ierusalem. ¹⁷ Then reproued I the rulers in Iuda, and sayd vnto them: what euyll thynge is thys that ye do, & breake the Saboth day? ¹⁸ Dyd not our fathers euen thus, and oure GOD brought all thys plage vpon vs & vpon thys cytye? And ye make the wrathe more yet vpon Israel, in that ye breake the Saboth. ¹⁹ And it fortuned, that when the porters of Ierusalem made shadowe before the Saboth, I commaunded to shut the gathes, & charged, that they shulde not be opened tyl after the Saboth & some of my seruauntes set I at the gates, that here shulde no burthen be broughte in on the Saboth daye. ²⁰ Then remayned the chapmen and marchauntes ones or twyce ouer nyghte wythoute Ierusalem wyth all maner of wares. ²¹ Then reproued I them sore, and sayd vnto them: why tarye ye all nyghte aboute the wall? If ye do it ones agayne, I wyll lay handes vpon you. From that tyme forthe came they no more on the Saboth.

²³ Kepe thyne herte wyth all dilygence, for there vpon hangeth lyfe.

²² ye shall beare no burthen also out of youre houses in the Sabboth. Ye shall do no laboure therin, but halowe the Sabboth, as I commaunded youre fathers. ²³ How be it they obeyed me not, nether herkened they vnto me: but were obstynate & stubburne, & nether obeyed me, nor receyued my correccyon. ²⁴ Neuertheles, yf ye will heare me (sayet the Lord) & beare no burthen in to the cytie thorow this gate vpon the Sabboth: If ye wyll halowe the Sabboth, so that ye do no worcke therin: ²⁵ then shall there go thorowe the gates of this cytie, kynges and prynces, that shall syt vpon the stole of Dauid: They shall be caried vpon charettes, and ryde vpon horses, both they and their prynces. Yee whole Iuda and all the cytesyns of Ierusalem shall goo here thorowe, and this cytye shall euer be the more and more inhabyted. ²⁶ There shall come men also from the cyties of Iuda, from aboute Ierusalem, & from the lande of BenIamin, from the playne feldes, from the mountaynes and from the wyldernesse: whiche shall brynge burntofferynges, sacrifyces, oblacions, and incense, and offre vp thanckesgeuyng in the house of the Lord. ²⁷ But yf ye wyll not be obedyent vnto me, to halow the Sabboth, so that ye will beare youre burthens thorow the gates of Ierusalem vpon the Sabboth: Then shall I set fyre vpon the gates of Ierusalem, and it shall burne vp the houses of Ierusalem, and no man shall be able to quench it.

²⁴ And he sayde vnto them: take hede what ye heare. With what measure ye mete, with the same shall it be measured vnto you agayne. And vnto you that heare, shall more be geuen.

¹⁸ Take hede therfore how ye heare. For who soeuer hath, to hym shall be geuen: And whosoeuer hath not, from hym shal be taken, euen that same which he supposeth that he hath.

⁹ And immediatly the man was made whole, and toke vp his bedde, and went. And the same day was the saboth daye. ¹⁰ The Iewes therfore sayd to him that was made whole it is the saboth day, it is not lawful for the to carye thy bed. ¹¹ He answered them: he that made me whole, said vnto me: take vp thy bed, and get the hence. ¹² Then axed they hym what man is that whiche saied vnto the, take vp thy bed & walke.

²⁸ Take hede therfore vnto youre selues, and to all the flocke wherof the holy ghoste hath made you ouersears, to rule the congregacyon of God, which he hath purchased wt hys bloude.

¹ Wherfor we ought to geue the more heede to the thynges which we haue heard, lest we perishe. ² For yf the word which was spoken by Angels was stedfast, so that euery transgression and disobedience receyued a iuste recompence to rewarde, ³ howe shal we escape, yf we despise so great saluacyon, whyche at the fyrst began to be preached of the Lorde hym selfe, and afterward was confirmed to vswarde, by them that hearde it,

¹⁵ And loked to, that no man be destitute of the grace of God, and that no rote of bytternes sprynge vp and trouble, and therebye manye be defyled, ¹⁶ & that there be no fornicator or vncleane person, as Esau whiche for one breakfast solde his byrthright.

² and in the seuenth day God ended hys worke whiche he had made, & rested in the seuenth day from al his workes which he had made. ³ And God blessed the seuenth daye, & sanctified it, for in it he rested from al his workes which he had created and made.

²³ And he sayde vnto them: this is that whych the Lorde hath sayde: to morowe is the Saboth of the holy rest of the Lord: bake that which ye wyl bake & sethe that ye wyll sethe, & that whych remayneth laye vp for you, & kepe it tyl the mornynge. ²⁴ And they layde it vp tyll the mornyng as Moses bade, and it stancke not, nether was there any wormes therin. ²⁵ And Moses sayd: that eate thys daye: for to day it is the Lordes Saboth: to day ye shall fynde none in the feld. ²⁶ Sixe dayes ye shal gather it, for the .vij. is the Saboth: there shalbe none therin. ²⁷ Notwithstanding there went out of the people in the seuenth day for to gather: but they founde none. ²⁸ Then the Lorde said vnto Moses: how long shall it be yer ye wyl kepe my commaundementes & lawes? ²⁹ Se because the Lord hath geuen you a Saboth, therfore he geueth you the syxte daye bred for twoo dayes. Byde therfore euery man at home, & let no man go out of hys place the seuenth day.

⁸ Remembre the Sabbath daye that thou sanctifie it. ⁹ Sixe dayes mayst thou laboure and do all that thou hast to do: ¹⁰ but the seuenth day is the Sabbath daye of the Lord thy God, in it thou shalt do no maner worke: nether thou nor thy sonne, nor thy doughter, neither thy man seruaunte nor thy mayde seruaunt, neither thy cattel neither yet the straunger that is within thy gates.

¹² Sixe dayes thou shalt do thy worcke and the seuenth daye thou shalt kepe holye daye, that thyne oxe and thyne asse maye reste and the sonne of thy maide and the stranger may be refreshed.

¹³ speake vnto the chyldren of Israell and saye: in any wyse se that ye kepe my Sabboth, for it shalbe a sygne betwene me and you in youre generacyons for to knowe, that I the Lorde do sanctyfye you. ¹⁴ Kepe my Sabboth therfore, that it be an holye thynge vnto you He that defyleth it shalbe slayne therfore. For whosoeuer worketh therein, the same soule shalbe roted oute from amonge hys people. ¹⁵ Syxe dayes shall men worke, but the seuenth daye is the Sabboth of the holye reste of the Lorde: so that whosoeuer doeth anye worke in the Sabboth daye, shall dye for it: ¹⁶ wherefore lette the children of Israel kepe the Sabboth, that they obserue it thorowe oute their generacyons, that it be an appoyntmente for euer. ¹⁷ For it shalbe a sygne betwene me and the chyldren of Israell for euer. For in sixe daies the Lord made heauen and earth and the seuenth daye he rested and was refreshed,

³ Se that ye feare euery man hys father and hys mother, and that ye kepe my Sabothes, for I am the Lord youre God.

³ Syxe dayes ye shall worke, and the seuenth is the Sabboth of reast an holy feast: so that ye maye doo no worke therin, for it is the Sabboth of the Lorde, wheresoeuer ye dwell.

¹² Kepe the Sabboth daye that thou sanctifye it, as the Lorde thy God hathe commaunded the. ¹³ Syxe dayes thou shalt laboure & do all that thou hast to do, ¹⁴ but the seuenth dai is the Saboth of the lorde thy God: thou shalt do no maner worke, neither thou, nor thy sonne, nor thy daughter, nor thy seruaunte nor thy mayd, nor thyne oxe nor thyne asse, nor any of thy cattel, nor the straunger that is within thy cytye: that thy seruaunte and thy mayde maye reste as well as thou. ¹⁵ And remembre that thou was a seruaunte in the Lande of Egipt and how that the Lord God, brought the out thence wyth a mighty hande and a streatched out arme. For whyche cause the Lord thy God commaunded the to kepe the Saboth day.

² Blessed is the man that doth this & the mans chylde which kepeth the same. He that taketh hede, that he vnhalow not the Sabboth (that is) he that kepeth him self that he do no euyll. ³ Then shall not the straunger, which cleaueth to the Lorde, saye: Alas the Lorde hath shut me cleane oute from his people. Nether shall the gelded man say: lo, I am a drye tre. ⁴ For thus sayth the Lorde, fyrste vnto the gelded that kepeth my Sabboth: Namelye: that holdeth greately of the thynge that pleaseth me, and kepeth my couenaunte: ⁵ Vnto them wyll I geue in my housholde and within my walles, a better herytage and name then yf they had bene called sonnes and doughters I wyll geue them an euerlastynge name, that shall not peryshe. ⁶ Agayne, he sayeth vnto the straungers that are dysposed to stycke to the Lorde, to serue hym, and to loue hys name: That they shalbe no bonde men. And all they whiche kepe them selues, that they vnhalowe not the Sabboth, namely that they fulfil my couenaunt.

¹³ Yea yf thou turne thy fete from the Sabboth, so that thou do not the thynge whyche pleaseth thy selfe in my holy daye: then shalte thou be called vnto the pleasaunt, holy, & gloryous Sabboth of the Lorde, where thou shalt be in honoure: so that thou do not after thyne owne ymaginacion, neyther seke thine owne wyll, nor speake thyne owne wordes.

¹² I gaue them also my holy dayes, to be a token betwixte me and them, and therby know, that I am the Lorde, whiche haloweth them.

²⁰ halowe my Sabbothes: for they are a token betwyxte me and you, that ye may know, howe that I am the Lorde. ²¹ Notwythstandinge, their sonnes rebelled against me also: they walcked not in my statutes, they kepte not my lawes to fulfyll them (whiche he that doeth shall lyue in them) neyther halowed they my Sabboth dayes. Then I made me againe to poure out my indignacion ouer them, and to satisfye my wrath vpon them in the wildernesse.

⁸ Thou haste despysed my Sanctuarye, and vnhalowed my Sabboth.

⁵ And he sayed vnto them: The sonne of man is Lorde of the saboth daye.

⁵⁶ And they returned and prepared odours and ointmentes: but rested the Saboth daye, accordinge to the commaundemente.

¹⁰ I was in the spirite on a sondaye, and hearde behynde me a great voyce, as it had bene of a trompe,

¹⁷ Where as thou hatest to be refourmed, and castest my woordes behynde the?

³ righteousnesse, iudgement & equite.

⁵ By hearing, the wyse man shall come by more wysedome: & by experience

¹² and then say: Alas why hated I nourtoure? why dyd my herte despys correction.

¹⁰ Receiue my doctrine therfore, & not siluer: & my knowledge, more then fyne golde.

¹ He that is styfnecked and wyll not be refourmed, shal sodenly be destroied without any helpe

⁴ Howebeit I knewe that thou arte obstynate, & that thy neck hath an yron veyne, & that thy browe is of brasse.

⁸ Amende the (O Ierusalem) leste I withdrawe my herte from the, and make the desolate: & thy lande also, that no man dwell in it.

²⁴ But they were not obedyent, they inclined not theyr eares there vnto, but wente after theyr owne ymagynacyons and after the mocyons of theyr owne wycked herte, & so turned them selues awaye, and conuerted not vnto me. ²⁵ And thys haue they done, from the tyme that youre fathers came oute of Egypte, vnto thys daye. Neuertheles, I sente vnto them my seruauntes all the Prophetes. I rose vp earlye & sente them worde, ²⁶ yet wolde they not herken, nor offre me theyr eares, but were obstynate and worse then theyr fathers.

²⁸ Therfore shalte thou saye vnto them: This is the people that neyther heareth the voyce of the Lord theyr God, nor receyueth hys correccyon. Faithfulues & trueth is cleane roted oute of theyr mouth.

¹⁰ They haue turned them selues to the blasphemyes of theyr forefathers, whiche had no luste to heare my worde. Euen lykewyse haue these also folowed straunge Goddes, and worshypped them. The house of Israell and Iuda haue broken my couenaunt, whiche I made wyth their fathers.

¹¹ Then make thou them this answere: Because youre fathers haue forsaken me (sayth the Lord) and haue cleued vnto straunge goddes, whom they haue honoured and worshypped: but me haue they forsaken, & haue not kepte my lawe. ¹² And ye with youre shamefull blasphemyes, haue exceaded the wyckednes of youre fathers. For euery one of you foloweth the frowarde and euell ymagynacyon of his owne herte, and is not obedient vnto me.

¹⁵ Thus sayeth the Lord of Hostes the God of Israell: Beholde, I will brynge vpon this cytie and vpon euery towne aboute it, all the plages that I haue deuysed agaynst them: for they haue bene obstinate, & wolde not obeye my warnynges.

³³ When I stode vp earlye, and taught them and instructe them, they turned their backes to me, and not their faces.

¹⁵ Yea, I haue sent my seruauntes, al the prophetes vnto you, I rose vp early, and sent you worde, sayinge: O turne you, euery man from his wicked waye: amende your lyues, and go not after straunge Goddes, to worshyppe them, that ye may contynue in the land which I haue geuen vnto you & your fathers but ye would neither heare me, nor folow me.

¹³ And yet the house of Israel rebelled agaynste me in the wildernesse, they woulde not walcke in my commaundementes, they haue cast awaye my lawes (whiche whoso kepeth, shoulde lyue in them) and my Sabboth dayes haue thy greatly vnhalowed. Then I made me to poure oute my indignacion vpon them, and to consume them in the wyldernesse.

¹⁶ and that because they refused my lawes, and walcked not in my commaundementes, but and vnhalowed my Sabbathes, for their herte was gone after their Idoles.

²¹ Notwythstandinge, their sonnes rebelled against me also: they walcked not in my statutes, they kepte not my lawes to fulfyll them (whiche he that doeth shall lyue in them) neyther halowed they my Sabboth dayes. Then I made me againe to poure out my indignacion ouer them, and to satisfye my wrath vpon them in the wildernesse.

⁷ I sayde vnto them: O feare me, and be contente to be refourmed. That theyr dwellynge shulde not be destroyed, and that there shulde happen vnto them none of these thynges, wherewyth I shall vyset them. But neuertheles they stande vp earlye, to folowe the fylthynes of theyr owne ymagynacions.

¹¹ Neuertheles they would not take hede, but turned their backes, & stopped their eares, that they should not heare: ¹² yea, they made their hertes as an Adamant stone, least they should hear the law & wordes, whiche the Lorde of hostes sent in his holy spirite by the Prophetes afore tyme. Wherfore the Lorde of hostes was verye wroth at them.

¹⁹ And this is the condempnacion, that light is come into the worlde, and the men loued darknes more then lyght, because their dedes were euyll. ²⁰ For euerye man that euyll doth, hateth the light: nether commeth to the lyghte: lest his dedes shoulde be reproued. ²¹ But he that doeth truth commeth to the light that hys dedes myght be knowen, how that they are wrought in God.

⁵¹ Ye styfe necked, and of vncyrcumcysed hertes and eares, ye haue al wayes resisted the holye ghoste as your fathers dyd, so do ye.

²⁶ & sayde: If ye wyll herken vnto the voyce of the Lord your god, & wyl do that which is ryght in his syght & wyl geue an eare vnto hys commaundementes, and kepe all hys ordynaunces: than wyll I put none of these diseases vpon the whych I brought vpon the Egypcyans, for I am the Lord thy surgione.

¹³ If thou shalt herken therfore vnto mi commoundementes which I commaund you this day, that ye loue the Lord your God & serue him with all your hertes and with all youre soules:

²² For if ye shall kepe al these commaundementes whiche I commaund you, so that ye do them, & loue the Lord your God, and walke in all his waies & cleaue vnto him.

⁷ And when he had wayted dylygentlye, he sawe two horsemen: the one rydynge vpon an Asse, the other vpon a Camel.

² Wherfore do ye laye oute youre moneye, for the thing that fedeth not, and spende youre laboure aboute the thynge that satisfyed you not. But herken rather vnto me, & ye shall eate of the beste, & youre soule shall haue her pleasure in plentuousnes.

¹³ Yea yf thou turne thy fete from the Sabboth, so that thou do not the thynge whyche pleaseth thy selfe in my holy daye: then shalte thou be called vnto the pleasaunt, holy, & gloryous Sabboth of the Lorde, where thou shalt be in honoure: so that thou do not after thyne owne ymaginacion, neyther seke thine owne wyll, nor speake thyne owne wordes. ¹⁴ Then shalt thou haue thy pleasure in the lord whyche shal carye the hye aboue the earthe, & fede the wt the heretage of Iacob thy father for the lordes owne mouthe hath so promised.

²¹ Thus the Lorde commaundeth: Take hede for youre lyues, that ye carye no burthen vpon you in the Sabboth, to brynge it thorowe the gates of Ierusalem: ²² ye shall beare no burthen also out of youre houses in the Sabboth. Ye shall do no laboure therin, but halowe the Sabboth, as I commaunded youre fathers.

¹⁵ that ye maye knowe, howe that the Lorde of hostes hath sent me vnto you. And this shal come to passe. Yf ye will herken diligently vnto the voyce of the Lorde youre God.

⁵ And herunto geue al diligence, in youre fayth, mynyster vertue, and in vertue knowledge, ⁶ and in knowledge temperancie, and in temperauncie, pacience, in pacience, Godlynes, ⁷ in Godlines brotherly kyndnes, in brotherlye kindnes, loue. ⁸ For yf these thinges be amonge you and are plenteous, they wyll make you, that ye neyther shalbe ydle nor vnfruteful in the knowledge of oure Lord Iesu Christe. ⁹ But he that lacketh these thinges, is blind and gropeth for the waye with his hand, and hath forgotten that he was pourged from his olde synnes. ¹⁰ Wherfore brethren, geue the more diligence for to make your callinge and eleccion sure. For if ye do suche thinges, ye shal neuer erre.

¹⁴ And thys daye shal be vnto you a remembraunce, & ye shall kepe it holy vnto the Lord: euen thorow out your generacions after you shal ye kepe it holy daye, that it be a custome for euer.

¹⁶ But in any wyse let hym not holde to many horses, that he bringe not the people agayne to Egypt thorowe the multitude of horsses, for asmuch as the Lord hath sayd vnto you: ye shall henceforthe go no more agayne that way.

¹¹ this shalbe the duty of the kyng that shal raigne ouer you: he wil take your sonnes & put them to his charettes & make his horsmen of them, & they must runne before his charet,

¹⁶ And thyne house and thy kyngdome shall endure wythoute ende after the, and thy seate shalbe stablyshed for euer.

⁴ And Dauid toke a thousande and seuen hundred horsemen of hys, and twentye thousand fote men & destroied all hys charettes reseruynge one hundred of them.

⁴ And yf thou wylte walcke before me, as Dauid thy father walcked, in purenesse of herte & playnesse, to do all that I haue commaunded the, and shalt kepe myne ordynaunces & customes: ⁵ then I wil stablyshe the seate of thy kyngdome vpon Israell for euer, as I promysed to Dauid thy father, sayinge: Thou shalt not be wythoute one or other vp on the seate of Israell.

²⁹ Hys sede wyll I make to endure for euer, yea, and his trone as the dayes of heauen. ³⁰ But if hys chyldren forsake my law, and walke not in my iudgementes. ³¹ If they breake myne ordynaunces, & kepe not my commaundementes. ³² I will vyset their offences wyth the rodde, and their synnes wit scourges. ³³ Neuerthelesse, my louinge kyndnesse wil I not vtterly take from hym, nor suffre my trueth to fayle. ³⁴ My couenaunt wyl I not breake, nor disanulle the thynge that is gone out of my lippes. ³⁵ I haue sworne once by my holinesse, that I will not fayle Dauid. ³⁶ Hys sede shall endure for euer, and hys seate also lyke as the sunne before me. ³⁷ He shall stande faste for euermore as the moone, and as the faythfull wytnesse in heauen. Selah.

¹¹ The Lord hath made a faythful ooth vnto Dauyd, and he shall not shrynke from it Of the frute of thy body shal I set vpon thy seate. ¹² If thy chyldren wyll kepe my couenaunt, and my testimony that I shal lerne them: their chyldren also shal syt vpon thy seate for euermore. ¹³ For the Lord hath chosen Syon, to be an habitacyon for him selfe hath he chosen her. ¹⁴ This shalbe my rest, here wyll I dwel for I haue a delyte therin.

⁷ he shall make no ende to encrease the kyngedome and peace, and shall sytte vpon the seate of Dauid, and in his kyngedome, to set vp the same, to stablyshe it wyth equyte and ryghteousnesse, from thence forth for euermore. This shall the gelousy of the Lorde of hostes brynge to paste.

¹³ Then shalt thou saye vnto them: Thus sayeth the Lorde: Beholde: I shall fyll all the inhabytours of this lande with dronckennes, the Kynges that syt vpon Dauids stole, the Prestes and Prophetes, with all that dwell at Ierusalem.

⁴ And yf ye kepe these thinges faythfully, then shall there come in at the dore of thys house kynges, to syt vpon Dauids seate: they shall be caryed in Charettes and ryde vpon horses, both they & their seruauntes, & their people:

³⁰ Wryte this man amonge the outlawes, for no prosperite shall this man haue all hys lyfe longe. Nether shall eny of his sede be so happie, as to syt vpon the seate of Dauid, and to beare rule in Iuda.

¹⁵ In those dayes and at the same tyme, I wil bringe forthe vnto Dauid, the braunche of righteousnes, and he shal do equite and ryghteousnesse in the lande.

¹⁷ For thus the Lorde promyseth: Dauid shal neuer want one, to syt vpon the stole of the house of Israell:

²¹ Then maye my couenaunt also be broken, whyche I made with Dauid my seruaunte, and so he not to haue a sonne to reygne in hys Trone. So shall also the Priestes and Leuites neuer fayle, but serue me.

³² He shalbe greate, and shalbe called the sonne of the hiest. And the Lorde God shal geue to hym the seat of his father Dauid, ³³ and he shall raigne ouer the house of Iacob for euer, & of his kingdome shall be no ende.

²² But ye are come vnto the mounte Syon, and to the cytye of the lyuyng God, the celestiall Ierusalem: and to an innumerable syghte of Angels,

¹ And the Lorde called Moses & spak to hym oute of the tabernacle of wytnesse saiyng: ² speake vnto the chyldren of Israel, and saye vnto them: who soeuer of you shal brynge a gyfte vnto the Lord, shal brynge it of the catel: euen of the oxen and of the shepe. ³ If he brynge a burntoffrynge of the oxen he shall brynge a male wythout blemysh, & shal brynge hym to the dore of the tabernacle of wytnesse, that he maye be accepted before the Lorde. ⁴ And let hym put hys hand vpon the heed of the burntsacryfice, and fauoure shalbe geuen hym to make an attonement for hym, ⁵ and let hym kyll the oxe before the Lorde. And let the preastes Aarons sonnes bringe the bloud and let them sprynkel it rounde aboute vpon the alter that is before the dore of the tabernacle of witnesse. ⁶ And let the burntoffrynges be strypped and hewed in peces. ⁷ And then let the sonnes of Aaron the preast put fyre vpon the alter,

²¹ And the cytyes of the trybe of the chyldren of Iuda in al quarters, towarde the coastes of Edom southwarde, ware: Kabzel, Eder, & Iagur, ²² Kinah, Dimonah, and Adada, ²³ Kedes, Hazor and Iethnan: ²⁴ Ziph, Telem, and Baloth ²⁵ Hazor Hadathah, and Karioth, Hesron, otherwyse called Hazor: ²⁶ Eman, Sami and Moladah, ²⁷ Hazargadah, Hasmon and Bethpheleth, ²⁸ Hazarsual, Bersabe, and Baziothiah, ²⁹ Baalah, Iim, and Azen: ³⁰ Eltholad, Cesyll, and Horma: ³¹ Zikelag, Medemenah and Sensenah: ³² Labaoth, Selhim, Ain and Kemou: all these cytyes are twentye and nyne with their villages. ³³ And in the lowe countreye they had Esthaol, Zareah, and Asenah: ³⁴ Zoneah, Enganim, Thaphuah & Enam: ³⁵ Ierimoth, Adulam, Socoh, and Azkah: ³⁶ Saarem, Adiathim, Gederah, and Gederothaim: Fourtene cytyes wyth their villages. ³⁷ Zenan, Hadazah, and Magdalgad: ³⁸ Delean Mazphah, and Iektheel: ³⁹ Lachis, Bazcath & Eglon: ⁴⁰ Cabon, Lahamam, and Cethli ⁴¹ Gaderoth, Bethdagon, Maamah and Makedah: Syxtene cytyes with their villages. ⁴² Lebnah, Ether, and Asan: ⁴³ Iephthah, Asnah, and Nezib: ⁴⁴ Keilah, Kahezyp and Maresah: nyne cytyes wyth their vyllages. ⁴⁵ Akron wyth her tounes and vyllages. ⁴⁶ And from Akron out to the sea, al that lyeth about Asdod wyth theyr vyllages. ⁴⁷ Asdod with her tounes and villages. Azah with her tounes and villages, euen vnto the ryuer of Egypt: and the great sea wt the coastes that lieth theron. ⁴⁸ And in the mountaynes, they had Samir, Iathir, and Socoh: ⁴⁹ Danah, & Kariathsenath, which is Dabir: ⁵⁰ Anab, Elthemoh, & Anim: ⁵¹ Gozen, Holon, and Giloh, eleuen cities with their villages. ⁵² Arab, Dumah, and Esean: ⁵³ Ianim, Beththaphuah & Aphcah: ⁵⁴ Humatah, & kariatharbe: which is Hebron and Zior, nyne cities with their villages. ⁵⁵ Maon, Carmell, Siph, and Iutah: ⁵⁶ Iesrael, Iukadan, and Sanoeh: ⁵⁷ Cain, Gabaah, and Thamnah ten cytyes with their villages. ⁵⁸ Halhul, Bethzur & Gedor: ⁵⁹ Maarath, Bethanoth, and Elthecon: Syxe cities with their village ⁶⁰ Kariath Baal which is kariath Iarim, and Harabba two cytyes wyth their villages. ⁶¹ And in the wyldernesse they had Betharabah, Meddin and Sacarah: ⁶² Neblon the cytye of salt, and Engadi: Syxe cities wyth theyr villages. ⁶³ But the Iebusites that were the enhabiters of Ierusalem: the chyldren of Iuda could not caste oute. Wherfore the Iebusites dwelle among the children of Iuda vnto this daye.

³ & the aulter set they vpon hys sockettes (for there was a fearfulnes amonge them because of the nacions and landes) and offered burntofferynges theron vnto the Lorde in the mornyng and at euen. ⁴ And helde the feaste of Tabernacles, as it is wrytten, and offered burntsacryfyces dayly in order, according to the custome, day by daye. ⁵ Afterwarde the daylie burntofferinges also, and of the newe mones and of all the feaste dayes of the Lorde that were halowed, and al maner of frewyl offerynges, whych they did of their owne frewyll vnto the Lorde. ⁶ Vpon the fyrst day of the seuenth moneth beganne they to offre burntsacryfyces vnto the Lorde. But the foundacyon of the temple of the Lorde was not yet layed.

¹¹ And they sange together, geuynge prayse and thankes vnto the Lorde, because he is gracyous, and because hys mercy endureth for euer vpon Israel. And all the people shouted loude in praysing the Lorde, because the foundacyon of the house of the Lorde was layd.

²² That they wolde offre vnto him the sacrifice of thankesgeuyng, & tell out hys workes with gladnes.

¹⁷ I wyl offre to the sacrifyce of thanckesgegeuynge, and wyll call vpon the name of the Lord.

⁴⁴ Yea lande shalbe bought for money, & euidences made thervpon and sealed before witnesses in the countre of Beniamin, and round about Ierusalem, in the cyties of Iuda, in the cities that are vpon the mountaynes, and in them that lye beneth, yea and in the cytyes that are in the deserte. For I will bringe their presonners hyther agayne, sayeth the Lorde.

¹¹ Shall the voice of gladnesse be hearde agayne, the voyce of the Brydegrome and of the bryde, the voyce of them that shall synge: Prayse the Lorde of Hostes, for he is louinge and his mercy endureth for euer, and the voyce of them that shall offer vp gyftes in the house of the Lorde. For I will restore the captiuite of this lande, as it was afore, saieth the Lord.

¹³ in the cytyes vpon the mountaynes, and in the cyties that lay vpon the plaine, and in the deserte. In the lande of Ben Iamin, in the feldes of Ierusalem, and in the cities of Iuda, shall the shepe be nombred agayn, vnder the hand of him, that telleth them, sayeth the Lorde.

⁷ Are not these the wordes which the Lord spake by his prophetes afore tyme, when Ierusalem was yet inhabited & welthy, she and the cities round aboute her: when there dwelt men, both toward the south and in the playne countreyes?

¹⁵ For by hym offre we the sacryfyce of laud alwayes to God: that is to saye, the frute of those lyppes, whiche confesse hys name.

⁵ and ye as lyuynge stones, are made a spirytuall housse, and an holye priesthode, for to offer vp spyrytuall sacryfyce, acceptable to God by Iesus Christe.

⁹ But ye are a chosen generacyon, a royall priesthode, an holye nacyon and a peculyar people that ye shoulde shewe the vertues of hym that called you oute of darkenes into his marueylous lyght, ¹⁰ whiche in tyme past were not vnder mercye, but nowe haue obtayned mercye.

⁵ and from Iesus Christ, whiche is a faythfull wytnes, and fyrst begotten of the dead, and Lorde ouer the kynges of the earth. Vnto him, that loued vs and washed vs from synnes in his owne bloude,

²² For fyre is kindeled in my wrath, and shal burne vnto the bottome of hell. And shall consume the earth wyth hyr encrease, & set a fyre the bottomes of the mountaines.

¹⁷ because they haue forsaken me, and haue burntofferynges vnto other Goddes, to angre me with all the workes of their handes. Therfore is my wrath kendled agaynst thys place, and shall not be quenched.

⁹ and burnte the house of the Lorde and the kynges house, and all the houses of Ierusalem, and al greate houses burnte he wyth fyre,

¹⁹ And they burnt the house of God and brake downe the walles of Ierusalem, and burnt all the palaces therof with fyre with all the goodly stoffe therof, and marred it.

²⁰ But yf ye be obstynate and rebellyous, ye shalbe deuoured wt the swerde: for thus the Lorde hath promysed wyth hys owne mouthe.

³¹ And as for the glorye of these thynges, it shalbe turned to drye straw, and he that made them to a sparke. And they shall both burne together, so that no man shalbe able to quenche them.

¹⁸ For the vngodlye burne as a fyre in the bryers and thornes. And as it were oute of a fyre in a wood or a read bushe, so ascendeth the smoke of their pryde. ¹⁹ For this cause shall the wrath of the Lorde of Hostes fal vpon the lande, and the people shalbe consumed, as it were with fyre, no man shall spare his brother.

¹⁷ and I wil set watchemen ouer you, & therfore take hede vnto the voyce of the trompet. But they saye: we wyll not take hede.

⁴ Ye shall be cast out also from the heretage, that I gaue you. And I wyll subdue you vnder the heuy bondage of youre enemyes, in a lande that ye knowe not. For ye haue mynystred fyre to my indignacyon, whyche shall burne euermore.

²⁴ Neuertheles, yf ye will heare me (sayet the Lord) & beare no burthen in to the cytie thorow this gate vpon the Sabboth: If ye wyll halowe the Sabboth, so that ye do no worcke therin:

¹² (O thou house of Dauid) for thus saieth the Lord: Ministre ryghtuousnes, and that soone, delyuer the oppressed from vyolent power: or euer my terryble wrath breake oute lyke a fyre, and burne so, that no man maye quench it, because of the wyckednes of youre ymagynacions.

⁵ But yf ye wyll not be obedient vnto these commaundementes, I sweare by myne owne selfe (sayeth the Lorde) this house shall be waste.

⁴ And after thys maner shalte thou speake vnto them: Thus saith the Lorde: yf ye wyll not obeye me, to walcke in my lawes, whiche I haue geuen you, ⁵ and to heare the wordes of my seruauntes the Prophetes, whome I sente vnto you, rysynge vp tymelye, and styl sendyng: If ye wyll not folowe them (I saye) ⁶ then wyll I do to this house, as I dyd vnto Siloh, and wil make this cytie to be abhorred of all the people of the earth.

²⁹ For the Caldees shal come, and wynne this citie, and set fyre vpon it. And burne it, wt the gorgeous houses, in whose parlers they haue made sacrifice vnto Baal, and poured drinckeofferynges vnto straunge goddes, to prouoke me vnto wrath.

²¹ But yf thou wylt not go forth, the Lord hath told me this planely. ²² Beholde al the wemen that are left in the kynge of Iudaes house, shall go out to the kyng of Babylons princes. For they thincke, that thou art disceyued: and that men in whome thou diddest put thy truste, haue gotten the vnder, & set thy fete fast in the mire, and gone their waye from the. ²³ Therefore al thy wyues with their children shall fle vnto the Caldees, and thou shalte not escape their handes, but shalt be the kinge of Babylons presoner, and this cytie shalbe brente.

⁸ Moreouer, the Caldees brent vp the kinges palace, with the other houses of the people, and brake doune the walles of Ierusalem.

¹⁶ As for the wordes that thou hast spoken vnto vs in the name of the Lorde, we will in no wyse heare them:

²⁷ I wyll kyndle a fyre in the walles of Damascus, whiche shall consume the palace of Benhadad.

¹³ & brent vp the house of the Lorde. He brent vp also the kynges palaces, all the houses & all the gorgeous buildinges in Ierusalem.

¹¹ Caph. The Lorde hath perfourmed hys heuy wrath: he hath poured out the furiousnes of hys dyspleasure. He hath kyndled a fyre in Sion, which hath consumed the foundacions therof.

⁴¹ They shall burne vp thy houses, & punish the in the syght of manye wemen. Thus wyll I make thy whordome to ceasse, so that thou shalt geue out no mo rewardes.

⁴ But I wyll sende a fyre into the house of Hazael, the same shal consume the palaces of Benadab.

⁷ Therfore wyl I send a fyre into the walles of Gaza, whiche shall deuoure her houses.

¹⁰ Therfore wil I sende a fyre into the walles of Tyre, that shal consume her palaces.

¹² Therfore wyll I sende a fyre into Theman, which shal deuoure the palaces of Bosra.

¹⁴ Therefore I wyl kyndle a fyre in the walles of Rabbath that shal consume her palaces: with a great crie, in the daye of batel, in tempest & in the daye of storme,

² Therfor wil I sende a fyre into Moab, which shal consume the palaces of Carioth, so that Moab shal perysh with a noyse, & the sounde of a shawme.

⁴ Thus sayth the Lorde: for thre and foure wickednesses of Iuda, I wil not spare hym: because he hath cast a syde the lawe of the Lord, & not kepte his commaundementes: for why, they wolde nedes be disceyued with the lyes, that theyr forefathers folowed. ⁵ Therfore wyl I sende a fyre into Iuda, whiche shall consume the palaces of Ierusalem.

¹¹ Neuertheles they would not take hede, but turned their backes, & stopped their eares, that they should not heare: ¹² yea, they made their hertes as an Adamant stone, least they should hear the law & wordes, whiche the Lorde of hostes sent in his holy spirite by the Prophetes afore tyme. Wherfore the Lorde of hostes was verye wroth at them. ¹³ And thus it is come to passe, that like as he spake, & they woulde not hear: euen so they cryed, and I woulde not heare, (sayeth the Lord of hostes) ¹⁴ but scatered them among al Gentiles, whom they knew not: Thus the lande was made so desolate, that there trauayled no man in it, neyther to, nor for for that pleasaunt lande was vtterly layed waste.

⁴³ Wherfore if thy hande offende the, cut hym of. It is better for the, to enter into lyfe maymed, then hauing two handes, go into hel, into fyre that neuer shal be quenched, ⁴⁴ where their worme dyeth not, and the fyre neuer goeth out. ⁴⁵ Likekewise if thy fote offende the, cut him of. For it is better for the to go halt into life, then hauinge two fete to be caste into hell, into fyre that neuer shalbe quenched: ⁴⁶ where their worme dyeth not, and the fyre neuer goeth out. ⁴⁷ Euen so if thyne eye offende the, plucke him out. It is better for the to go into the kyngedome of God with one eye, then hauing two eies to be cast into hel fyre: ⁴⁸ where their worm dieth not, and the fyre neuer goeth out.

²⁵ Se that ye despyse not hym, that speaketh. For yf they escaped not whiche refused hym, that spake on earth: muche more shall we not escape, yf we turne awaye from hym that speaketh from heauen:
