¹² All these thynges tolde I Zedekiah the Kynge of Iuda, and sayde: Put youre neckes vnder the yocke of the Kynge of Babylon, & serue hym & hys people, that ye maye lyue.

¹¹ And Zedekiah was .xxi. yere olde when he beganne to raigne, & raigned a .xi. yere in Ierusalem. ¹² And he dyd that displeased the Lord his God, & humbled not him selfe before Ieremiah the prophete at the mouth of the Lorde. ¹³ And therto he rebelled agaynst Nabuchodonozor which had receyued on othe of hym by God, & was to styfenecked & to harde herted to turne vnto the Lord God of Israel.

³³ But who so harkeneth vnto me shal dwel safely, and haue ynough without any feare of euell.

² Make the bondes & chaynes, & put them aboute thy necke, ³ & sende them to the kynge of Edom, the Kynge of Moab, the kynge of Ammon, the Kynge of Tyrus, and to the Kynge of Sydon: and that by the messaungers, whiche shall come to Ierusalem vnto Zedekiah the kynge of Iuda,

⁸ Moreouer, that people and kyngedome whiche wyll not serue Nabuchodonosor, and that wyll not put theyr neckes vnder the yock of the kynge of Babylon: the same people wil I vpset with the swearde, wyth honger, with pestylence, vntyll I haue consumed them in hys handes, sayeth the Lorde.

¹ And thys was done in the same yeare: euen in the begynnynge of the raygne of Zedekiah kynge of Iuda. Bvt in the fourthe yeare of the raygne of Zedekiah kyng of Iuda, in the fyfth moneth, It happened, that Hananiah the sonne of Assur the Prophet of Gabaon, spake to me in the house of the Lord, in the presence of the priestes & of al the people, & sayd.

¹⁷ Then sayde Ieremye vnto Zedekiah: Thus sayeth the Lord of Hostes the God of Israel: Yf case be, that thou wylt go forth vnto the kynge of Babilons Princes, thou shalt saue thy lyfe, and thys cyty shall not be brent, yea both thou and thy housholde shal escape wyth youre lyues.

¹¹ Moreouer, the worde of the Lorde came vnto me sayinge: ¹² Speake to that frowarde housholde: knowe ye not, what these thinges do signyfye? Tell them: Beholde the king of Babylon came to Ierusalem, and toke the kynge and hys Princes, and ledde them to Babylon. ¹³ He toke of the kinges sede, and made a couenaunt wyth him, and toke an ooth of him. The Prynces of the lande toke he wyth hym also, ¹⁴ that the land myght be holden in subieccyon, and not to rebelle, but kepe the couenaunt, and fulfyll it. ¹⁵ But he fell from him, & sent hys Embassitoures into Egipte, that he myght haue horses and much people. Should that prospere? Shoulde he be kept safe, that doeth suche thynges? Or shoulde he escape that breaketh his couenaunt? ¹⁶ As truely as I lyue sayeth the Lorde God: He shal dye at Babylon, in the place where the kyng dwelleth, that made him King: whose othe he hath despysed, and whose couenaunte he hath broken. ¹⁷ Neyther shall Pharao wyth his greate hoste and multitude of people, maynteyne him in the warre: when they cast vp dyches, and set vp bulworches to destroye much people. ¹⁸ For seyng he hath despysed the othe, and broken the couenaunt (where as he yet gaue his hande thervpon) and done all these thynges, he shall not escape. ¹⁹ Therfore thus sayeth the Lorde God: As truely as I lyue. I wil bring myne othe that he hath despised, & my couenaunt that he hath broken, vpon his owne heade. ²⁰ I will cast my net aboute hym, and catche him in my yarne. To Babylon wil I carye him, there wyll I punyshe him, because of the greate offence that he made me. ²¹ As for those that fle from him out of the hoste, they shalbe slayne with the swerd. The residue shalbe scatred toward all the wyndes, and ye shal knowe, that I the Lorde haue spoken it.
