¹² And the .xxxix. yeare of his raigne Asa fel sycke on hys fete, and that his disease exceaded. And therto in his sycknesse he asked no counsel of the Lorde, but of Physycyons.

¹⁷ Beholde, happye is the man, whom God punisheth: therfore, despyse not thou the chastenynge of the Almyghty. ¹⁸ For though he make a wound, he geueth a medicine againe: though he smyte, hys hande maketh whole agayne.

⁴ When I layed me downe to slepe, I sayde: O when shall I ryse? Agayne, I longed sore for the night. Thus am I full of sorowe, tyll it be darcke.

¹⁷ My bones are pearsed thorow in the nyghte season, & my sinewes take no rest.

¹ To the chaunter, to brynge too remembraunce. Pvtte me not too rebuke (Oh Lorde) in thyne anger: Oh chasten me not in thy heuy displeasure. ² For thyne arrowes stycke fast in me, and thy hande presseth me sore. ³ There is no whole parte in my body, because of thy displeasure: there is no reste in my bones, by reason of my synnes. ⁴ For my wyckednesses are gone ouer my head, and are like a sore burthen, to heuy for me to beare. ⁵ My woundes styncke and are corrupte, thorow my folyshnesse. ⁶ I am broughte into so greate trouble and mysery, that I go mournynge all the daye longe. ⁷ For my loynes are cleane dryed vp, and there is no whole parte in my body. ⁸ I am feble & sore smytten, I roare for the very disquietnes of my hert.

¹² Blessed is the man, whome thou learnest (O LORDE) and teacheste hym in thy lawe.

⁶⁷ Before I was troubled, I wente wronge but now I kepe thy word.

⁷¹ It is good for me that I haue bene in trouble, that I may learne thy statutes.

⁹ And therfor shall the iniquite of Iacob be thus reconcyled. And so shall he take away all the frute of hys sinnes. As for aulter stones, he shall make them all as stones beaten to poulder: the groues & Idols shall not stande.

¹² Where the people of the Gentyles (whom my progenytours conquered) delyuered at any tyme thorow their goddes? As namely, Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the chyldren of Eden, which dwell at Thalassar. ¹³ Where is the Kynge of Hemah, & the Kynge of Arphad, & the Kyng of the cytye Sepharuaim, Ena and Aua?

³² But when we are iudged of the Lorde, we are chastened, because we shoulde not be dampued wyth the worlde.

¹⁹ As manye as I loue, I rebuke and chastes. Be feruent therfore and repente.
