¹ Then Iesus .vi. dayes before Easter, came to Bethanye where Lazarus was which was dead, and whom Iesus raysed from death. ² There they made hym a supper, & Martha serued: but Lazarus was one of them that sate at the table with hym. ³ Then toke Mary a pounde of oyntment called Nardus, perfecte and precyous, and annoynted Iesus fete, and wepte hys fete with her heare, and the house was fylled wyth the sauoure of the oyntmente. ⁴ Then sayed one of hys disciples named Iudas Iscarioth Simons sonne. whiche afterwarde betrayed him: ⁵ why was not thys oyntment solde for thre .C. pens and geuen to the poore? ⁶ Thys sayed he, not that he cared for the poore, but because he was a thiefe, and kepte the bagge, and bare that whiche was geuen. ⁷ Then sayed Iesus Let her alone, agaynste the daye of my buriynge the kept it. ⁸ The poore alwayes shall ye haue with you, but me shall ye not alwayes haue. ⁹ Muche people of the Iewes had knoweledge that he was there, & they came not for Iesus sake onely, but that they myghte se Lazarus also whom he raysed from death: ¹⁰ The hye priestes therfore helde a counsel, that they myght put Lazarus to death also, ¹¹ because that for hys sake many of the Iewes went away, and beleued on Iesus. ¹² On the morowe muche people that were come to the feast, when they hearde that Iesus shoulde come to Hierusalem, ¹³ toke braunches of palme trees, and went and met hym, and cryed: Hosanna, blessed is he that in the name of the Lorde cometh kynge of Israell. ¹⁴ And Iesus gotte a yong asse, and sate theron, accordynge to that which was wrytten, ¹⁵ feare not doughter of Syon, beholde thy kynge cometh, sittynge on an asses colte. ¹⁶ These thinges vnderstode not hys discyples at the fyrst: but when Iesus was glorifyed, then remembred they that suche thynges were written of him, and that suche thynges they had done vnto hym. ¹⁷ The people that was with hym, when he called Lazarus out of hys graue, and raysed hym from death, bare recorde. ¹⁸ Therfore met hym the people, because they hearde that he had done suche a myracle. ¹⁹ The Phariseis therfore sayed amonge them selues: perceyue ye howe we preuayle nothing? beholde the worlde goeth awaye after hym. ²⁰ There were certayne Grekes among them, that came to praye at the feaste: ²¹ the same came to Phylyppe which was of Bethsayda a citie in Galile, and desiered hym, saiynge: Syr we woulde fayne se Iesus. ²² Phylip came and told Andrewe. And agayne Andrewe and Philip tolde Iesus. ²³ And Iesus aunswered them sayinge: The houre is come that the sonne of man must be glorifyed. ²⁴ Verelye verelye I saye to you, excepte the wheate corne fall into the grounde and dye, it bydeth alone. If it dye, it bringeth forth much frute. ²⁵ He that loueth hys lyfe, shall destroy it: and he that hateth hys lyfe in this world, shal kepe it vnto lyfe eternall. ²⁶ If any man minister vnto me, let hym folowe me, and where I am, there shal also my minister be. And yf any man minister vnto me, hym wyll my father honoure. ²⁷ Nowe is my soule troubled, and what shal I saye? Father delyuer me from thys houre: but therfore came I vnto thys houre. ²⁸ Father, glorifye thy name. Then came there a voyce from heauen: I haue glorifyed it, and wil glorifye it agayne. ²⁹ Then sayde the people that stode by, and hearde: it thoundreth, Other sayd an angell spake to him. ³⁰ Iesus aunswered and sayed: thys voyce came, not because of me, but for your sakes. ³¹ Now is the iudgement of thys world: now shall the prince of thys worlde be caste oute. ³² And I, yf I were lyft vp from the earth, will drawe all men vnto me. ³³ This sayde Iesus, signifyenge what death he shoulde dye. ³⁴ The people aunswered hym: We haue hearde oute of the lawe, that Christe bydeth euer: and howe sayest thou then that the sonne of man muste be lyfte vp? who is that sonne of man? ³⁵ Then Iesus sayed vnto them: yet a lyttell whyle is the lyght with you. Walke, whyle ye haue lyght, lest the darcknes come on you. He that walketh in the darcke, woteth not whether he goeth. ³⁶ Whyle ye haue lyghte, beleue on the lyght, that ye maye be the chyldren of light. These thynges spake Iesus, and departed, and hyd hym selfe from them. ³⁷ And though he had done so many myracles before them, yet beleued not they on hym, ³⁸ that the saiynge of Esayas the Prophete myght be fulfylled, that he spake. Lorde, who shall beleue our saiyng? And to whome is the arme of the Lorde opened? ³⁹ Therfore coulde they not beleue, because that Esayas sayth agayne: ⁴⁰ he hath blynded theyr eyes and hardened theyr hertes, that they shoulde not se with theyr eyes, and vnderstand with theyr hertes, and shoulde be conuerted, and I shoulde heale them. ⁴¹ Such thynges said Esayas when he sawe hys glorye, and spake of hym. ⁴² Neuerthelesse among the chief rulers many beleued on hym. But because of that Pharyses they woulde not be a knowen of it, least they shoulde be excommunicate, ⁴³ for they loued the prayse, that is geuen of men, more then the prayse that commeth of God. ⁴⁴ And Iesus cryed and sayde: he that beleueth on me, beleueth not on me, but on hym that sente me. ⁴⁵ And he that seeth me, seeth hym that sent me. ⁴⁶ I am come a lyght into the worlde, that whosoeuer beleueth on me, shoulde not byde in darknes. ⁴⁷ And yf anye man heare my wordes, & beleue not, I iudge him not. For I came not to iudge the worlde, but to saue the worlde. ⁴⁸ He that refuseth me, and receiueth not my wordes, hath one that iudgeth hym. The wordes that I haue spoken, they shall iudge hym in the laste day. ⁴⁹ For I haue not spoken of my selfe: but the father which sent me, he gaue me a commaundement what I shoulde say, & what I should speake. ⁵⁰ And I knowe that thys commaundement is lyfe euerlasting. Whatsoeuer I speake therfore, euen as the father bade me, so I speake.

¹⁷ And he lefte them, and wente out of the cytye vnto Bethanye, and had hys abydynge there.

⁶ When Iesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, ⁷ there came to him a woman, which had an alabaster boxe of precious oyntment, and poured it on hys heade, as he sate at the bourde. ⁸ When hys discyples sawe that, they had indignacyon, sayinge: what neded thys waste? ⁹ Thys oyntment myght haue bene wel solde, and geuen to the poore. ¹⁰ When Iesus vnderstode that, he sayed vnto them: why trouble ye the woman? she hath wrought a good worke vpon me. ¹¹ For ye shall haue poore folke alwaies with you, but me shall ye not haue alwayes.

¹¹ And the Lorde entred into Hierusalem, & into the temple. And when he had loked round aboute vpon all thynges, and nowe the euen tyde was come, he wente oute vnto Bethany with the twelue.

³ When he was in Bethania, in the house of Simon the leper, euen as he sate at meate ther came a woman hauynge an alabaster boxe of oyntment called narde, that was pure & costly, and she brake the boxe and powred it on hys head. ⁴ And there were some that were not content in them selues, and sayd: what neded this waste of oyntment? ⁵ For it myght haue bene solde for more then thre hundred pence, & bene geuen vnto the poore. And they grudged agaynste her. ⁶ And Iesus sayde: let her be in reste, why troubled ye her? she hath done a good worke on me. ⁷ For ye shall haue poore men with you alwayes, & whensoeuer ye wyll, ye maye do them good, but me ye shal not haue alwayes. ⁸ She hath done that she coulde: she came afore hande to anoynte my body to hys buryenge warde.

⁵⁰ And he led them out into Bethany, and lift vp his handes, & blessed them.

¹ A certayne man was sicke, named Lazarus of Bethania, the toune of Marye and her syster Martha.

⁴⁴ And he that was dead, came forth, bounde hand and fote with graue boundes, and his face was bounde with a napkin. Iesus sayed vnto them, lowse him, and let hym go.

⁵⁵ And the Iewes Easter was nye at hande, and manye wente oute of the countrye vp to Hierusalem before the Easter, to purifie them selues.

²⁰ There were certayne Grekes among them, that came to praye at the feaste:

¹⁶ Vp thou Northwynde, come thou southwynde, & blowe vppon my garden, that the smell therof may be caryed on eueryside: yea that my beloued may come into my garden, and eate of the frutes and apples that grow therein.

⁶ When Iesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,

³ When he was in Bethania, in the house of Simon the leper, euen as he sate at meate ther came a woman hauynge an alabaster boxe of oyntment called narde, that was pure & costly, and she brake the boxe and powred it on hys head.

²⁹ And the same Leui made him a great feaste at home in his owne house. And ther was a great companye of publicans and of other that sate at meat with him.

³⁸ It fortuned as they went, that he entred into a certayne toune. And a certayne woman named Martha, receyued hym into her house. ³⁹ And this woman had a syster called Marye whiche sate at Iesus fete, and hearde his preachynge. ⁴⁰ And Martha was combred aboute muche seruynge, and stode and sayed: Mayster doest thou not care, that my syster hath lefte me to mynister alone? Byd her therfore, that she helpe me. ⁴¹ And Iesu aunswered & said vnto her: Martha, Martha, thou carest, and arte troubled aboute manye thinges, ⁴² verelye one is nedefull. Marye hath chosen her that good part whiche shall not be taken away from her.

³⁷ Happye are those seruauntes, whom the Lorde when he commeth, shall fynde wakynge: Verely I saye vnto you, he wyll girde hym selfe aboute, and make them sytte doune to meate, & walke by, & mynyster vnto them.

¹² Then sayde he also to hym that had desyered hym to dyner. When thou makest a dyner or a supper: call not thy frendes, nor thy brethren, neyther thy kynsmen nor yet ryche neyghboures: least they byd the agayne, and a recompence be made the.

²⁷ For whether is greater, he that sytteth at meate: or he that serueth? Is not he that sytteth at meate? And I am amonge you, as he that ministreth.

⁴³ And when he thus had spoken: he cryed wt a loude voyce: Lazarus come forth. ⁴⁴ And he that was dead, came forth, bounde hand and fote with graue boundes, and his face was bounde with a napkin. Iesus sayed vnto them, lowse him, and let hym go.

⁹ Muche people of the Iewes had knoweledge that he was there, & they came not for Iesus sake onely, but that they myghte se Lazarus also whom he raysed from death: ¹⁰ The hye priestes therfore helde a counsel, that they myght put Lazarus to death also,

²⁰ Behold I stande at the dore and knocke. Yf anye man heare my voice and open the dore. I wil come in vnto him, and will suppe with him, and he wyth me.

² How he swore vnto the Lorde, and vowed a vowe vnto the allmyghty one of Iacob:

³ & that because of the good & pleasaunt sauoure. Thy name is a swete smelling oyntment, therfore do the maydens laue the:

¹² When the king sitteth at the table, he shal smell my Nardus:

¹⁰ O howe fayre and louely are thy brestes, my syster, my spouse? Thy brestes are more pleasaunte then wyne, and the smell of thyne oyntmentes passeth al spices.

¹³ The frutes that sprute in the, are like a very Paradyse of pomegranates with swete frutes: ¹⁴ as Cypresse, Nardus, Saffron, Calmus, and all the trees of Libanus: Myrre, Aloes, and all the best spyces.

³⁷ And beholde a woman in that citye which was a synner, assone as she knewe that Iesus sate at mete in the phariseis house, she brought an alabaster boxe of ointment, ³⁸ and she stode at his fete behinde him wepinge, and began to washe his fete with teares, and dyd wype them wyth the heares of her head, and kyshed his fete, and annoynted them with oyntment.

⁴⁶ Myne head with oyle thou dyddest not anoynte, but she hath annointed my fete with oyntmente.

² It was that Marye whiche annoynted Iesus with oyntment and wyped hys fete with her heyre, whose brother Lazarus was sicke,

²⁸ And assone as she had so sayd, she went her waye, and called Marye her syster secretelye, saiynge: The mayster is come, and calleth for the.

³² Then when Mary was come, where Iesus was, and sawe hym, she fell doune at hys fete, saiynge vnto hym: Lorde yf thou haddest bene here, my brother had not ben dead.

²⁸ And Eliab his eldest brother hearde when he spake vnto the men and was angry with Dauid and sayde: Why camest thou away and wyth whom hast thou lefte those fewe shepe in the wyldernesse? I knowe thy pryde and the malyce of thyne herte, that thou art come to se the battell. ²⁹ And Dauid answered what haue I now done? is there any more saue a worde?

⁴ Agayn, I sawe that all trauayle and diligence of labour was hated of euery man. This is also a vayn thinge, and a vexacion of mynde.

⁴ Symon of Cane, and Iudus Iscarioth which also betrayed hym.

¹⁶ and Iudas Iames sonne, and Iudas Iscarioth which same was the traytour.

⁷⁰ Iesus aunswered them: Haue not I chosen you twelue, and yet one of you is the deuyll? ⁷¹ He spake it of Iudas Iscarioth the sonne of Simon: For he it was that shoulde betraye him, and was one of the twelue.

² And when supper was ended, after that the deuyl had put in the herte of Iudas Iscarioth Simons sonne, to betraye hym.

²⁶ Iesus aunswered, he it is to whom I geue a sop, when I haue depte it. And he wet a soppe, and gaue it to Iudas Iscaryoth Simons sonne.

² Iudas also which betrayed hym, knewe the place: for Iesus oftetymes resorted thither with hys disciples. ³ Iudas then after he had receyued a bande of men, and ministers of the hye priestes and Phariseis, came thyther wt lanternes and fyrebrandes, and weapens. ⁴ Then Iesus knowing all thynges that should come on hym, wente forth, and sayed vnto them: whom seke ye? ⁵ They aunswered hym: Iesus of Nazareth. Iesus sayed vnto them: I am he. Iudas also which betrayed hym, stode wt them.

⁸ and the numbre of brycke whyche they were wonte to make in tymes passed, laye vnto their charges also, & minish nothing therof. For they be idle and therfore cry saying: let vs goo and do sacrifyce vnto our God.

¹⁷ And he aunswered: idle are ye idle, and therefore ye say: let vs goo and do Sacrifice vnto the Lorde.

⁵ When wil the new moneth be gone, that we maye sell vytale, & the Sabboth, that we maye haue scarcenesse of corne: to make the busshell lesse, and the Sycle greater?

¹⁰ Yea, what is he amonge you, that wyll do so muche as to shut the dores, or to kindle the fire vpon myne aulter for naught? I haue no pleasure in you, sayeth the Lord of hostes: and as for the meatofferynge, I will not accepte it at your hande. ¹¹ For from the rysynge vp of the sunne vnto the goynge doune of the same, my name is greate amonge the Gentyles: yea, in euery place shall there sacryfice be done, & a cleane meatoffering offered vp vnto my name: for my name is great among the heathen, sayeth the Lorde of hostes. ¹² But ye haue vnhalowed it, in that ye say: the aulter of the Lorde is not to be regarded, & the thinge that is set ther vpon, not worthy to be eaten. ¹³ Now say ye: It is but laboure and trauail, and thus haue ye thought scorne at it (sayeth the Lorde of hostes) offeryng robbery, yea, the lame and the sicke. Ye haue brought me in a meatoffering, shoulde I accepte it of youre hande, sayeth the Lorde?

² And he agreed with the labourers for a peny a daye, and sent them into hys vyneyarde.

⁸ When hys discyples sawe that, they had indignacyon, sayinge: what neded thys waste? ⁹ Thys oyntment myght haue bene wel solde, and geuen to the poore.

⁴ And there were some that were not content in them selues, and sayd: what neded this waste of oyntment? ⁵ For it myght haue bene solde for more then thre hundred pence, & bene geuen vnto the poore. And they grudged agaynste her.

⁴¹ Why seist thou a moote in thy brothers eye, and consyderest not the beame that is in thyne owne eye?

³³ Sell that ye haue, and geue almes. And make you bagges whiche were not old, and treasure that faileth not in heauen, where no these cometh, neyther mothe corrupteth.

²² When Iesus hearde that, he sayed vnto hym. Yet lackeste thou one thynge. Sell all that thou haste, and distrybute it vnto the poore, and thou shalt haue treasure in heauen, and come, & folowe me.

⁷ Philip aunswered him, two hondred peny worth of bread are not sufficient for them, that euerye man haue a litel.

²⁰ Gihezi the seruaunt of Elizeus the man of God, sayd: se, my mayster hath kepte of, thys Syryen Naaman that he wolde not receyue of hys hand that he offered. As surely as the Lorde lyueth I wyl runne after hym, and take somewhat. ²¹ And so Gihezi went after Naaman. And when Naaman sawe hym come runnynge after hym, he came doune of the charet agaynst hym & said: is all well? ²² And he sayde: yea. But my mayster hath sente me, sayinge: se there be two younge men come to me oute of Ephraim of the chyldren of the Prophetes: geue them I praye the, one talent of syluer, & a couple of good garmentes. ²³ And Naaman sayde: auenture and take two talentes of syluer in two bagges, with two goodlye garmentes, & delyuered them vnto two of hys seruauntes, to beare it before hym. ²⁴ And he went in the darcke, and toke it of theyr handes and bestowed it in the house, and let the men go, & they departed. ²⁵ Then he went & stode before hys mayster. And Elizeus sayde to hym: whence commeth Gihezi? And he sayde: thy seruaunt wente no whether. ²⁶ And he sayde: wente not myne herte with the, when the man turned & came of hys charet agaynste the? Is it a tyme to receyue syluer & to receyue garmentes, olyue trees, vineyardes, oxen, shepe menseruauntes & maid seruauntes? ²⁷ The leprosye therfore of Naaman claue vnto the, & vnto thy seede for euer. And he went out from hym a leper as whit as snowe.

¹⁴ For they gaue that to the worckemen, to repayre therewyth the house of the Lorde. ¹⁵ Moreouer they rekened not with the men, into whose handes they delyuered the money to be bestowed on worckemen: But they dyd it euen of fidelitye.

²⁴ And I toke out twelue of the chefe pryestes, Sarabia and Hasabia, and ten of theyr brethren with them, ²⁵ and weyed them there the siluer and goulde and vessels for the heaueoffering vnto the house of our God, which the kinge and the Lordes of his counsell and prynces, and all Israel that were at hande, had geuen to the heaueoffering: ²⁶ & there weied I them vnder their hand syx hundred & fyfty talentes of syluer, and in syluer vessel an hundred talentes, & in gould an hundred talentes ²⁷ twentye cuppes of goulde of a thousande drammes, and two costly ornamentes of good brasse, as cleare as goulde, ²⁸ and sayde vnto them: Ye are holy vnto the Lorde, therfore are the vessels holy also, and so is the syluer and goulde that is geuen of a good wil vnto the Lorde God of your fathers: ²⁹ Watche ye therefore and kepe it tyl ye weye it doune before the chefe priestes and Leuites, and auncient fathers of Israel at Ierusalem in the chestes of the house of the Lorde. ³⁰ Then toke the priestes and the Leuites that weyed syluer & goulde and vessel, to brynge it to Ierusalem vnto the house of oure God. ³¹ So we brake vp from the water of Ahaua on the twelueth day of the fyrst moneth, to go vnto Ierusalem: & the hande of our God was vpon vs, and delyuered vs from the hande of the enemies & preuy waytinges by the waye. ³² And we came to Ierusalem, & abode there thre dayes. ³³ But on the fourth day was the syluer and goulde and vessell weyed in the house of oure God vnder the hande of Meremoth the sonne of Vriah the pryeste, and with him Eleazar the sonne of Phinehes, and with them Iosabad the sonne of Iesua, and Noadiah the sonne of Benoi the Leuites, ³⁴ according to the nombre & weight of euery one. And the weyght was all wrytten vp at the same tyme.

¹ To the chaunter, of Dauid. The folyshe bodyes saye in their hertes: tushe, there is no God. They are corrupt, & become abhominable in their doynges, there is not one that doth good.

¹⁶ But vnto the vngodly sayeth God? Why doest thou preach my lawes, and takest my couenaunt in thy mouth? ¹⁷ Where as thou hatest to be refourmed, and castest my woordes behynde the? ¹⁸ If thou seist a thefe, thou runnest wyth him, and art partaker with the aduouterers. ¹⁹ Thou lettest thy mouthe speake wickednesse, and thy tonge paynteth disceate. ²⁰ Thou sittest & speakest agaynste thy brother, yea, & sclaundrest thyne owne mothers sonne.

⁷ The rightuous consydereth the cause of the poore, but the vngodly regardeth no vnderstandynge.

³¹ These come vnto the, after the maner of a great people: yea my people syt doune before the, and heare thy wordes, but they do not there after: for in theyr mouthes they shewe them selues, as though they were feruent, but their herte goeth after theyr owne couetous lucre.

¹³ and sayde to them: It is writen, my house shalbe called the house of prayer. But ye haue made it a denne of theues.

⁸ Al, euen as manye as came before me, are theues and robbers: but the shepe dyd not heare them. ⁹ I am the dore: by me yf any man enter in, he shalbe safe, and shall go in & oute, and fynde pasture. ¹⁰ The thefe cometh not, but for to steale, kyll, and destroye. I am come, that they might haue lyfe, and haue it more aboundauntlye.

¹³ The hyred seruaunte fleeth, because he is an hyred seruaunte, and careth not for the shepe.

²⁹ Some of them thought, because Iudas had the bagge, that Iesus had sayed vnto hym, bye those thinges that we haue nede of agaynst the feast: or that he shoulde geue some thyng to the poore.

¹⁰ neither theues, neythe couetous, neither dronkardes, neither cursed speakers, neither pyllars, shall inherete the kyngedome of God.

¹⁹ and not so onely, but is also chosen of the congregacyons to be a felowe with vs in oure iorneye concernynge thys beneuolence that is ministred by vs vnto the prayse of the Lorde, and to stere vp youre prompte mynde. ²⁰ For this we eschue, that anye man shoulde rebuke vs in thys plentuous distribucyon, that is ministred by vs, ²¹ and therfore make prouision for honest thynges, not in the syghte of God onelye, but also in the syght of men.

¹⁰ warnyng onely, that we should remembre the pore. Whiche thyng also I was dylygently to do.

²² Absteyne from all suspicious thinges.

² If there come into your company a man wyth a golden ring and in goodly apparell, and there come in also a pore man in vyle raymente,

⁶ But ye haue despysed the pore. Are not the ryche they whiche oppresse you: and they which drawe you before iudges?

³¹ For he standeth at the ryght hand of the pore, to saue hym from suche as condempne hys soule.

² And the Lorde sayde vnto Satan: The Lorde reproue the (thou Satan) yea the Lorde that hath chosen Ierusalem, reproue the. Is not thys a brande taken out of the fyre?

¹⁰ When Iesus vnderstode that, he sayed vnto them: why trouble ye the woman? she hath wrought a good worke vpon me.

¹² And in that she casted thys oyntmente on my bodye, she dyd it to burye me with al.

⁵⁷ When the euen was come, there came a riche man of Aramathia named Ioseph, which same also was Iesus disciple. ⁵⁸ He wente to Pilate and begged the bodye of Iesus, Then Pilate commaunded the body to be deliuered. ⁵⁹ And Ioseph toke the body, & wrapped it in a cleane linnen cloth, ⁶⁰ & put it in his newe tombe: which he had hewen out, euen in the rocke and rolled a great stone to the dore of the sepulchre and departed.

⁶ And Iesus sayde: let her be in reste, why troubled ye her? she hath done a good worke on me.

⁴² And now when night was come (because it was the euen that goeth before the Saboth) ⁴³ Ioseph of Arimathia a noble Councelloure which also loked for the kyngdome of God, came and went in boldly vnto Pylate, & begged the bodye of Iesu. ⁴⁴ And Pylate merueyled that he was already deade, and called vnto hym the Centurion, and axed of hym, whether he had bene anye whyle deade. ⁴⁵ And when he knewe the truth of the Centuryon, he gaue the body to Ioseph. ⁴⁶ And he bought a lynnen clothe, and toke him doune, and wrapped him in the lynnen clothe, and layde hym in a tombe that was hewen out of the rocke, and rolled a stone vnto the dore of the sepulchre. ⁴⁷ And Mary Magdalen & Marye Ioses behelde where he was layed.

⁵⁰ And beholde there was a man named Ioseph, a counselloure, and was a good man and a iuste,

³⁸ After that Ioseph of Arimathia (whiche was a disciple of Iesus, but secretely for feare of the Iewes) besought Pylate that he myght take doune the bodye of Iesus. And Pylate gaue him licence. ³⁹ And there came also Nicodemus whiche at the begynnyng came to Iesus by nyght, and broughte of myrre & aloes myngled together aboute an hundred pounde wayght. ⁴⁰ Then toke they the body of Iesu, & wound it in lynnen clothes with the odoures, as the maner of the Iewes is to burye. ⁴¹ And in the place where Iesus was crucifyed, was a garden, and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was neuer man layde. ⁴² There layde they Iesus because of the Iewes saboth euen, for the sepulchre was nye at hande.

¹¹ For the land shall neuer be wythout pore. Wherfore I commaund the saying: open thine hand vnto thy brother that is neady and pore in thy land.

⁶ Neuerthelesse when I had opened vnto my beloued, he was departed and gone his waye. Now lyke as afore tyme when he spake, my hert coude not longer refrayne: Euen so now I soughte hym, but I coulde not fynde hym: I cryed vpon him, neuerthelesse he gaue me no aunswere.

¹¹ For ye shall haue poore folke alwaies with you, but me shall ye not haue alwayes.

⁷ For ye shall haue poore men with you alwayes, & whensoeuer ye wyll, ye maye do them good, but me ye shal not haue alwayes.

²¹ Then sayde Iesus agayne vnto them. I go my waye, and ye shall seke me, & shall dye in youre synnes. Whether I go, thither can ye not come.

³⁵ Then Iesus sayed vnto them: yet a lyttell whyle is the lyght with you. Walke, whyle ye haue lyght, lest the darcknes come on you. He that walketh in the darcke, woteth not whether he goeth.

³³ Deare chyldren, yet a lytell whyle am I with you, ye shall seke me, and as I sayde vnto the Iewes: whyther I go, thyther can ye not come. Also to you saye I now:

⁵ But nowe I go my waye to hym that sent me, and none of you axeth me, whyther goest thou? ⁶ But because I haue sayde suche thinges vnto you, youre hertes are full of sorowe. ⁷ Neuerthelesse I tell you the trueth, it is expediente for you that I go awaye. For yf I go not awaye, that comforter wil not come vnto you. But yf I departe, I wil sende hym vnto you.

⁹ And when he had spoken these thynges whyle they beheld, he was taken vp, and a cloud receiued him vp out of their sighte, ¹⁰ And while they loked stedfastlye vp to heauen as he went, beholde two men stode by them in whyt apparell, ¹¹ whyche also sayde: ye men of Galile, why stande ye gasynge vp into heauen? This same Iesus which is taken from you into heauen, shal so come, euen as ye haue sene hym go into heauen.

⁴³ And when he thus had spoken: he cryed wt a loude voyce: Lazarus come forth. ⁴⁴ And he that was dead, came forth, bounde hand and fote with graue boundes, and his face was bounde with a napkin. Iesus sayed vnto them, lowse him, and let hym go. ⁴⁵ Then many of the Iewes which came to Marye, and had sene the thynges whiche Iesus dyd, beleued on hym.

¹⁰ And they knewe hym that it was he whyche sate and begged at the beutyfull gate of the temple. And they wondred & were sore astonied at that, which had happened vnto hym. ¹¹ And as the halte whych was healed held Peter and Iohn, all the people ran amased vnto them in Solomons porche.

¹⁴ and beholdinge also the man whiche was healed standynge wyth them, they coulde not saye agaynst it.

⁴ And Abell he brought also of the fyrstlynges of hys shepe, & of the fatt of them. And the Lord loked vnto Abel and to hys offrynge, ⁵ but vnto Cayn & vnto hys offrynge loked he not. And Cayn was wroth exceadyngly, & loured. ⁶ And the Lorde sayd vnto Cayn: why art thou angry, & why lourest thou? Wotest thou not yf thou dost well thou shalt receyue it? ⁷ But and yf thou dost euell, by & by thy synne lyeth open in the dore. Notwithstandyng let it be subdued vnto the, and sea thou rule it. ⁸ And Cayn talked with Abel hys brother. And as soone as they were in the feldes, Cayn fell vpon Abell hys brother, & slewe hym. ⁹ And the Lorde sayd vnto Cayn: where is Abel thy brother? And he sayde: I can not tell, am I my brothers keper? ¹⁰ And he sayde: What hast thou done? The voyce of thy brothers bloude cryeth vnto me oute of the erth.

³ Then Moses and Aaron went in vnto Pharao, and sayd vnto hym: Thus sayth the Lorde God of the Hebrues: howe longe shall it be or thou wylt submit thy selfe vnto me? Let my people go that they may serue me.

²⁵ For he hath stretched out hys hande agaynste God, and armed him selfe agaynst the Almyghtye. ²⁶ He rounneth proudly vpon him, and with a stiff necke fyghteth he agaynst him:

⁸ Wilt thou disanulle my iudgemente? Or wilt thou condempne me, that thou thy selfe mayest be made righteous? ⁹ Is thyne arme then lyke the arme of God? Maketh thy voyce such a sound as hys doeth?

³ Amonge all thynges that come to passe vnder the Sunne, this is a mysery, that it happeneth vnto all alyke. This is the cause also that the hertes of men are ful of wyckednes, and mad folishnes is in their hertes as longe as they liue, vntyl they dye.

²¹ He was shote oute from amonge men, his herte was lyke a beastes herte, and hys dwellynge was wyth the wylde asses: he was fayne to eate grasse lyke an oxe, and hys body was wet with the dewe of the heauen: tyll he knewe, that the hyest had power vpon the kingdomes of men, and setteth ouer them, whome he lyst. ²² And thou hys sonne (O Balthazar) for al this, hast not submytted thyne herte, thoughe thou knewest all these thynges, ²³ but hast magnyfyed thy selfe aboue the Lorde of heauen, so that the vessels of hys house were broughte before the, that thou, and thy Lordes, with thy quene and concubynes, myght drincke wyne thereoute: And hast praysed the Idoles of syluer and golde, copper and yron, of wode and stone: As for the God in whose hande consysteth thy breth and all thy wayes: thou haste not loaued hym.

³ When Herode the kinge had herde this, he was troubled, and al Ierusalem with him, ⁴ and he gathered al the chiefe priestes and scribes of the people, & axed of them where Christe shoulde be borne. ⁵ And they sayd vnto hym: at Bethleem in Iury. For thus it is wrytten by the prophete. ⁶ And thou Bethleem in the land of Iury, art not the least concerning the Princes of Iuda. For out of the shal come the captaine, that shall gouerne my people Israel. ⁷ Then Herode preuily called the wyse men, and diligently enquired of them, the tyme of the starre that apeared, ⁸ and sent them to Bethleem sayinge: Go and searche diligentlye for the childe. And when ye haue founde hym, bringe me worde, that I may come and worshyppe him also.

¹⁶ Then Herode perceauing that he was mocked of the wyse men, was excedinge wroth, & sent forth and slue al the children that were in Bethleem, and in all the costes therof, as many as were two yere olde and vnder according to the time which he had diligently searched out of the wise men.

³¹ He sayed vnto hym: yf they heare not Moyses, and the Prophetes, neyther wyll they beleue, though one rose from death agayne.

⁴⁷ Then gathered the hye Priestes and Pharyses a counsel and sayd: What do we? This man doth many myracles: ⁴⁸ yf we let hym scape thus, all men wyll beleue on hym, & the Romaynes shall come and take away our countrey and the people. ⁴⁹ And one of them named Cayphas which was the hye prieste that same yeare sayde vnto them: ye perceyue nothynge at all, nor yet consyder that ⁵⁰ it is expedyent for vs, that one man dye for the people, & not that all the people peryshe. ⁵¹ Thys spake he not of hym selfe, but beynge hye Prieste that same yeare he prophesyed that Iesus shoulde dye for the people, ⁵² and not for the people only, but that he shoulde gather together in one the children of God which were scattered abrode. ⁵³ From that daye forth they helde a counsell together, for to put hym to death.

⁵⁷ The hye priestes and Pharyseis had geuen a commaundement, that yf any man knewe, where he were, he shoulde shew it, that they myght take hym.

³¹ Many of the people beleued on him and sayd: when Christe cometh wyl he do mo miracles then this man hath done?

⁴⁵ Then many of the Iewes which came to Marye, and had sene the thynges whiche Iesus dyd, beleued on hym.

⁴⁸ yf we let hym scape thus, all men wyll beleue on hym, & the Romaynes shall come and take away our countrey and the people.

¹⁸ Therfore met hym the people, because they hearde that he had done suche a myracle.

¹⁸ Yf the worlde hate you, ye knowe that it hated me before it hated you. ¹⁹ Yf ye were of the worlde, the worlde woulde loue his owne. Howe be it because ye are not of the worlde, but I haue chosen you out of the worlde, therfore hateth you the worlde. ²⁰ Remember the saiyng that I sayde vnto you: the seruaunt is not greater then the lorde, yf they haue persecuted me, so wyll they persecute you: yf they haue kept my saiynges, so wyll they kepe yours. ²¹ But all these thinges wyll they do vnto you, for my names sake, because they haue not knowen him that sent me. ²² Yf I had not come, and spoken vnto them, they should not haue had synne: but now haue they nothynge to cloke theyr synne with all. ²³ He that hateth me, hateth my father. ²⁴ If I had not done workes among them which none other man dyd, they had not had synne. But now haue they sene, & yet haue hated both me & my father: ²⁵ euen that the saiyng might be fulfilled that is writen in their lawe: they hated me without a cause.

⁴⁵ When the Iewes saw the people, they were ful of indignacyon & spake agaynste those thynges, whiche were spoken of Paule, speakynge agaynst it, and railynge on it.

¹⁴ But, yf ye haue bitter enuyinge and strife in youre hertes, reioyce not: neyther be lyars agaynste the trueth. ¹⁵ Thys wysedome descendeth not from aboue: but is earthye, & naturall, and deuelyshe: ¹⁶ For where enuiynge and stryfe is there is vnstablenes and all maner of euyll workes.

⁴ All this was done, to fulfill that whiche was spoken by the Prophet saying: ⁵ Tel ye the doughter of Sion: beholde thyne kyng cometh vnto the meke, and sitting vpon an Asse and a colte, the fote of an Asse vsed to the yooke. ⁶ The disciples went and did as Iesus commaunded them, ⁷ & brought the Asse and the colte, and put on theym theyr clothes, and set him thereon. ⁸ And many of the people spred their garmentes in the way. Other cut doune braunches from the trees, and strawed them in the waye. ⁹ Moreouer the people that went before, and they also that came after, cryed sayinge: Hosanna to the sonne of Dauid. Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the Lorde Hosanna in the hyest.

⁷ And they broughte the coolt to Iesus, and caste theyr garmentes on hym: & he sate vpon hym. ⁸ And manye spredde theyr garmentes in the way. Other cut doune braunches of the trees, and strawed them in the waye ⁹ And they that before, & they that folowed, cryed, saying Hosanna: blessed be he that commeth in the name of the Lord. ¹⁰ Blessed be the kyngdome that commeth in the name of hym that is Lord of our father Dauid. Hosanna in the hyest.

³⁵ And they broughte hym to Iesus. And they caste theyr raymente on the colte, and set Iesus theron. ³⁶ And as he wente, they sprede theyr clothes in the waye. ³⁷ And when he was nowe come, where he shoulde go doune from the mount Oliuete, the whole multitude of the discyples beganne to reioyce, and to laude God with a loude voyce for all the myracles that they had sene, ³⁸ saying: Blessed be the kyng that cometh in the name of the Lorde: peace in heauen, and glorye in the hyest.

⁵⁵ And the Iewes Easter was nye at hande, and manye wente oute of the countrye vp to Hierusalem before the Easter, to purifie them selues. ⁵⁶ Then soughte they for Iesus, and spake amonge them selues, as they stode in that temple: What thynke ye, seynge he commeth not to the feast

⁴⁰ And ye shall take you the fyrst day, the frutes of goodly trees and the braunches of palme trees and the bowes of thicke trees, and willowes of the brooke, & shall reioyce before the Lord .vij. dayes.

¹⁷ Hys name shal endure for euer, his name shall remayne vnder the sunne amonge the posterites, which shalbe blessed thorow him and all the Heathen shall prayse hym. ¹⁸ Blessed be the Lorde God, euen the God of Israell, whiche onely doeth wonderous thinges. ¹⁹ And blessed be the name of his maiesty for euer, and al landes be fulfilled with his glory. Amen, Amen.

²⁵ Helpe now O lord O, lord sende vs now prosperity. ²⁶ Blessed be he that commeth in the name of the Lorde, we wysh you good lucke, ye that be of the house of the Lord.

⁶ Moreouer, thus hath the Lorde spoken: euen the Kynge of Israel, and his auenger, the Lorde of Hostes: I am the fyrst & the last, and with out me is there no God.

⁵ But afterwarde shall the children of Israell conuerte, and seke the Lorde their God: and Dauid their kinge: & in the latter dayes, they shall worshyppe the Lorde, and hys louynge kindnesse.

¹⁵ for the Lorde hath taken awaye thy punyshemente, and turned backe thyne enemyes. The kynge of Israell, euen the Lorde hymselfe is with the: so that thou nedest no more to feare any mysfortune.

⁹ Moreouer the people that went before, and they also that came after, cryed sayinge: Hosanna to the sonne of Dauid. Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the Lorde Hosanna in the hyest. ¹⁰ And when he was come into Ierusalem all the cytye was moued sayinge: who is thys? ¹¹ And the people sayd: this is Iesus the prophet of Nazareth a citie of Galile.

³⁹ For I saye to you, ye shall not se me hence forth tyll that ye saye blessed is he that commeth in the name of the Lorde.

⁴⁹ Nathanael aunswered & sayde vnto him: Rabbi, thou art the sonne of God, thou art the kynge of Israel.

¹⁵ feare not doughter of Syon, beholde thy kynge cometh, sittynge on an asses colte.

¹⁵ They cryed, awaye wyth hym, awaye with hym, crucifye hym. Pylate sayd to them: Shall I crucifye your kynge? The hye Priestes aunswered: we haue no king but Cesar.

¹⁹ And Pylate wrote hys tytle and put it on the crosse. The wrytyng was Iesus of Nazareth, kynge of the Iewes. ²⁰ Thys tytle red manye of the Iewes. For the place where Iesus was crucifyed, was nye to the cytye. And it was wrytten in Hebrue, Greke and Latyn. ²¹ Then sayde the hye priestes of the Iewes to Pylate. Wryte not kynge of the Iewes: but that he sayde. I am kyng of the Iewes. ²² Pilate aunswered: what I haue wrytten that haue I wrytten.

⁹ After this I behelde, and lo a greate multitude (which no man coulde numbre) of al nacions and people, and tonges, stode before the seate, and before the lambe, clothed wyth longe whyte garmentes, and palmes in their handes,

³ and they songe the songe of Moises the seruaunt of God, & they songe of the lamb, sayinge: Great & maruelous are thy workes Lorde God almighty, iuste & true are thy wayes kynge of sainctes.

¹⁶ And hath on hys vesture & on hys thighe a name wrytten: king of kinges, & Lord of Lordes,

⁹ Reioyce thou greatly, O doughter Syon, be glad, O doughter Ierusalem. For lo, thy king commeth vnto the, euen the ryghteous & Sauioure: Lowly and simple is he, he rydeth vpon an asse, & vpon the foale of an asse.

¹ When they drewe nygh vnto Ierusalem, and were come too Bethphage, to mount Oliuete: then sent Iesus two of his disciples, ² sayinge to them. Go into the towne that lyeth ouer agaynste you, and anone ye shal fynde an Asse bound, & her colte with her: lose them, and bringe them vnto me. ³ And if any man saye ought vnto you, saye ye that the Lord hath nede of them: and streyght waye he will let them go. ⁴ All this was done, to fulfill that whiche was spoken by the Prophet saying: ⁵ Tel ye the doughter of Sion: beholde thyne kyng cometh vnto the meke, and sitting vpon an Asse and a colte, the fote of an Asse vsed to the yooke. ⁶ The disciples went and did as Iesus commaunded them, ⁷ & brought the Asse and the colte, and put on theym theyr clothes, and set him thereon.

¹ And when they came nye to Hierusalem vnto Bethphage and Bethanye, besydes mount Olyuete, he sent two of hys discyples, ² and sayde vnto them: Go your wayes into the toune that is ouer agaist you. And assone as ye be entred into it, ye shal fynde a coolte tied, whereon neuer man sate: loose hym, and brynge hym hyther. ³ And yf any man say vnto you: why do ye so? Saye that the Lorde hath nede of hym: and strayghte waye he wyll sende hym hyther. ⁴ And they wente theyr waye, & founde a coolte tyed by the dore without in a place where two wayes met, and they losed hym. ⁵ And dyuers of them that stode there, sayd vnto them: What do ye lowsyng the coolte? ⁶ And they sayed vnto them euen as Iesus had commaunded them. And they let them go. ⁷ And they broughte the coolt to Iesus, and caste theyr garmentes on hym: & he sate vpon hym.

²⁹ And it fortuned, when he was come nye Bethphage and Bethanye, besydes mounte oliuete, he sente two of hys disciples, ³⁰ saiynge: Go ye into the toune whiche is ouer againste you, In the whiche assone as ye are come, ye shall fynde a colt tyed, whereon yet neuer man sate. Lewse him, and bring him hither. ³¹ And yf anye man axe you, why that ye lewse him: thus say vnto him: the Lorde hath nede of hym. ³² They that were sente, wente theyr waye, & founde as he had sayed vnto them. ³³ And as they were alewsynge the colte, the owners sayed vnto them: why lewse ye the colte? ³⁴ And they sayed: for the Lorde hath nede of hym. ³⁵ And they broughte hym to Iesus. And they caste theyr raymente on the colte, and set Iesus theron.

¹⁶ But in any wyse let hym not holde to many horses, that he bringe not the people agayne to Egypt thorowe the multitude of horsses, for asmuch as the Lord hath sayd vnto you: ye shall henceforthe go no more agayne that way.

¹⁰ ye that ryde on goodly Asses, and sitte in iudgement. And ye that walcke by the wayes make dytyes.

¹⁴ And he had fourtye sonnes, and thyrtye neuewes, that rode on .lxx. asse coltes. And when Abdon the sonne of Helle the Pharatonite had iudged Israell .viij. yere,

¹ After thys Absalom gat him charettes & horsses & fyftye men to runne before him.

² Then sayde the kynge to Ziba: what hast thou there? And Ziba sayde: Asses for the Kynges houshold to ryde on, and bread & frute for the young men to eate, and wyne to drincke, yf any man fainte in the wyldernesse.

³³ the kinge sayde vnto them: take with you the seruauntes of youre Lorde, and set Salomon my sonne vpon myne owne mule and carye him doune to Gihon.

⁴ Saye vnto them that are of a fearfull herte: Be of good there, & feare not. Beholde youre God cometh, to take vengeaunce, and to rewarde, God commeth his owne selfe, & wyll delyuer you. ⁵ Then shall the eyes of the blynde be lyghtened, & the eares of the deafe opened.

⁹ Go vp vnto the hyll (O Sion) thou tha bryngest good tydynges, lyft vp thy voyce with power, O thou preacher Ierusalem. Lyft it vp without feare, & saye vnto the cities of Iuda: Beholde youre God, ¹⁰ beholde the Lorde, euen the Allmyghtie shall come with power, and beare rule with hys arme. Beholde, he bryngeth his treasure with hym, & hys worckes go before hym.

¹⁴ Be not a frayde thou lytle worme Iacob, & thou despysed Israell for I will helpe the, sayeth the Lorde, and the holy one of Israel thyne auenger.

¹¹ Beholde, the Lorde proclameth in the endes of the worlde: tell the doughter Syon: se, thy saluacyon commeth, beholde he bryngeth his treasure wyth hym, and hys worckes go before hym.

⁸ And vnto the (O thou tower of Eder, thou strong holde of the doughther Sion) vnto the shall it come: euen the lordshype and kyngdome of the daughter Ierusalem.

¹⁶ In that tyme it shall be sayed to Ierusalem: feare not, and to Syon: let not thyne handes be slacke, ¹⁷ for the Lorde thy GOD is with the, it is he that hath power to saue: he hath a specyall pleasure in the, & a maruelous loue towarde the: yea, he reioyseth ouer the wyth gladnesse.

⁹ Beholde, I wyl lyfte vp myne hande ouer them, so that they shall be spoyled of those, whiche afore serued them: and ye shall knowe that the Lorde of hostes hath sente me. ¹⁰ Be glad, and reioyce, O doughter of Sion: for lo, I am come to dwell in the myddeste of the, sayeth the Lord. ¹¹ At the same tyme there shall manye Heathen cleue to the Lorde, and shall be my people. Thus wyll I dwell in the myddest of the, & thou shalte knowe, that the Lorde of hostes hathe sente me vnto the.

² sayinge. Where is he that is borne kinge of Iewes? We haue sene his star in the east, and are come to worshyppe hym. ³ When Herode the kinge had herde this, he was troubled, and al Ierusalem with him, ⁴ and he gathered al the chiefe priestes and scribes of the people, & axed of them where Christe shoulde be borne. ⁵ And they sayd vnto hym: at Bethleem in Iury. ³² But they wiste not what that saying meante, and were afrayed to axe hym.

¹⁹ So then when the Lorde had spoken vnto them: he was receyued into heauen, and is set doune on the ryght hande of God.

⁴⁵ But they wiste not what the worde meante, & it was hyd from them, that they vnderstode it not. And they feared to axe him of that sayinge.

³⁴ But they vnderstode none of these thynges. And this saiyng was hyd from them. And they perceyued not the thynges whiche were spoken.

⁶ he is not here, but is rysen. Remember howe he spake vnto you, when he was yet with you in Galile, ⁷ saiynge: that the sonne of man must be delyuered into the handes of synfull men, and be crucifyed, and the thirde daye ryse againe. ⁸ And they remembred his wordes,

²⁵ And he sayed vnto them: O fooles and slowe of hert to beleue all that the Prophetes haue spoken.

⁴⁵ Then opened he their wittes, that they myght vnderstande the scriptures,

²² Assone therfore as he was risen from death agayne, his disciples remembred that he thus said. And they beleued the scrypture, and the wordes whyche Iesus had sayd.

³⁹ This spake he of the spirite which they that beleueth on him, shoulde receyue. For the holye ghost was not yet because that Iesus was not yet gloryfyed.

²³ And Iesus aunswered them sayinge: The houre is come that the sonne of man must be glorifyed.

³¹ When he was gone oute, Iesus sayde: nowe is the sonne of man glorifyed. And God is glorified by hym. ³² Yf God be glorifyed by hym, God shall also glorifye hym in hym selfe, and shall strayghte waye glorifye hym.

²⁶ But that comforter whiche is the holy ghost (whome my father wil send in my name) he shal teache you all thinges, & brynge all thynges to youre remembraunce whatsoeuer I haue tolde you.

⁴ But these thynges haue I tolde you, that when that houre is come ye myghte remember them that I tolde you so. These thynges sayde I not vnto you at the begynnynge, because I was present with you.

⁵ And nowe glorifye me thou father with thyne owne selfe with the glorye which I had with the, yer the worlde was

³³ Sence nowe that he by the ryght hand of God is exalted, and hath receiued of the father the promyse of the holy ghost, he hath shed forth, that whyche ye now se and heare.

³⁶ So therefore let all the house of Israell knowe for a surety, that God hath made the same Iesus whom ye haue crucifyed, bothe Lord and Christe.

¹³ The God of Abraham Isaac and Iacob, the God of our fathers hath glorified hys sonne Iesu, whom ye delyuered and denyed in the presence of Pylate, when he had iudged hym to be lowsed.

¹ Of the thynges which we haue spoken this is the pythe: that we haue suche an hye prieste that is sytten on the ryght hande of the seate of maiestye in heauen,

² lokynge vnto Iesus the author and fynysher of our fayth, whiche for the ioye that was set before hym, abode the crosse, and despised the same, and is set doune on the ryght hande of the throne of God.

⁶ So that men shal speake of the myght of thy maruelous actes, and tell of thy greatenes. ⁷ The memorial of thyne aboundant kyndnes shalbe shewed, & men shall synge of thy righteousnesse.

¹⁹ And this is the recorde of Iohn: When the Iewes sent pryestes and Leuites from Ierusalem, to axe him what arte thou?

³² And Iohn bare recorde saiynge: I saw the sprete descende from heauen, lyke vnto a doue, and abide vpon him,

³⁴ And I sawe and beare recorde that this is the sonne of God.

³⁵ He was a burninge and a shyninge lyght and ye woulde for a season haue reioysed in his lyght: ³⁶ But I haue greater witnes then the witnes of Iohn. For the workes which the father hath geuen me to fynyshe the same workes which I do, beare witnes of me that the father sent me. ³⁷ And the father himselfe which hath sent me, beareth witnes of me. Ye haue not hearde his voice at anye tyme nor ye haue sene his shape: ³⁸ therto his wordes haue ye not abydinge in you. For whom he hath sent, him ye beleue not. ³⁹ Searche the sciptures, for in them ye thinke ye haue eternall lyfe: and they are they which testifye of me.

¹³ The Phariseis sayde vnto hym: thou bearest recorde of thy selfe thy recorde is not true. ¹⁴ Iesus aunswered and sayed vnto them: though I beare recorde of my selfe, yet my recorde is true: for I know whence I came, and whether I go. But ye can not tel, whence I came, and whither I go.

³¹ The Iewes then which were with her in the house and comforted her, when they sawe Mary, that she arose vp hastely, and went out, and folowed her, saiynge: She goeth vnto the graue, to wepe there.

⁴² I wote that thou hearest me alwayes: but because of the people that stande by, I sayed it, that they may beleue that thou hast sent me.

⁴⁵ Then many of the Iewes which came to Marye, and had sene the thynges whiche Iesus dyd, beleued on hym. ⁴⁶ But some of them went theyr wayes to the Pharises, and tolde them what Iesus had done.

⁹ Muche people of the Iewes had knoweledge that he was there, & they came not for Iesus sake onely, but that they myghte se Lazarus also whom he raysed from death:

²⁶ But when the comforter is come, whome I will sende vnto you from the father, which is the spirite of truth, which proceadeth of the father, he shall testify of me. ²⁷ And ye shall beare witnes, also because ye haue bene with me from the begynnynge.

³⁵ And he that sawe it, bare recorde, and hys recorde is true. And he knoweth that he sayth true, that ye myghte beleue also.

²⁴ The same dyscyple is he which testifyeth of these thinges, and wrote these thinges. And we know that his testimonie is true.

²² beginning at the baptisme of Iohn, vnto that same daye that he was taken vp from vs, muste one be ordeyned to beare wytnes with vs of hys resurreccion.

³² And we are hys recordes concerninge these thinges, & also the holy ghost, whom God hath geuen to them that obey him.

⁹ If we receyue the wytnes of men, the wytnes of God is greater. For thys is the wytnes of God, whiche he testified of his sonne. ¹⁰ He that beleueth on the sonne of God, hath the wytnes in him selfe. He that beleued not God, hath made hym a lyar, because he beleued not the recorde, that God gaue of hys sonne. ¹¹ And thys is that recorde, howe that God hath geuen vnto vs eternal lyfe, and this lyfe is in his sonne. ¹² He that hath the sonne, hath lyfe: and he that hath not the sonne of God, hath not lyfe.

² whiche bare recorde of the word of God, and of the testimonye of Iesus Christe, and of all thynges that he sawe.

¹¹ because that for hys sake many of the Iewes went away, and beleued on Iesus.

²⁷ All the endes of the worlde shall remembre them selfes, and be turned vnto the Lorde: & all the generacions of the Heithen shal worshippe before hym.

¹ To the chaunter, a Psalme of the chyldren of Corah. O heare thys, all ye people: pondre it wel, all ye that dwel vpon the earth.

⁶ It wyll come to thys poynte, that Iacob shalbe roted agayne, & Israel shallbe grene, and beare floures, and they shall fyll the whole worlde with theyr frute.

¹⁵ When the chiefe priestes sawe the marueylles that he dyd, and the chyldren criynge in the temple and saying: Hosanna to the sonne of Dauid, they disdayned,

⁴⁷ And he taught daily in the temple. The hye Priestes and the Scribes and the chiefe of the people wente about to destroye hym, ⁴⁸ but coulde not fynde what to do. For all the people stacke by hym, and gaue hym audience.

²⁶ And they came vnto Iohn, and sayed vnto hym: Rabbie, he that was with the beyond Iordan, to whom thou bareste witnes, Beholde the same baptyseth, and al men come to him.

⁴⁷ Then gathered the hye Priestes and Pharyses a counsel and sayd: What do we? This man doth many myracles: ⁴⁸ yf we let hym scape thus, all men wyll beleue on hym, & the Romaynes shall come and take away our countrey and the people. ⁴⁹ And one of them named Cayphas which was the hye prieste that same yeare sayde vnto them: ye perceyue nothynge at all, nor yet consyder that ⁵⁰ it is expedyent for vs, that one man dye for the people, & not that all the people peryshe.

²¹ that they all maye be one, as thou father art in me, and I in the that they maye be also one in vs, that the worlde maye beleue that thou haste sent me.

¹⁶ saiynge: what shall we do to these men? For a manifeste signe is done by them, and is openlye knowen to all them that dwell in Hierusalem, and we can not denie it. ¹⁷ But that it be noised no further among the people, let vs threaten and charge them that they speake henceforth to no man in this name.

²⁷ And when they had brought them, they set them before the counsell. And the chiefe prieste axed them ²⁸ saiynge: dyd not we straytely commaunde you, that ye shoulde not teach in this name. And behold ye haue fylled Hierusalem with your doctrine, and ye intended to brynge this mannes bloude vpon vs.

⁶ But when they found them not, they drue Iason and certayne brethren vnto the heades of the citie, criynge: these that trouble the worlde are come hyther also,

² and he it is that obtayned grace for our sinnes, not for oure sinnes onelye, but also for the synnes of al the worlde.

⁴¹ And likewise yf a straunger that is not of thy people Israel come oute of a farre countreye for thy names sake ⁴² (for they shal heare of thy great name and of thy myghtye hande and stretched out Arme) and therfore yf he come & praye at thys place, ⁴³ heare thou vp to heauen thy dwellyng place, and do accordynge to all that the straunger calleth to the for, that all nacyons of the erth maye knowe thy name, to feare the as do thy people Israel, and that it maye be knowen that this house which I haue buylt is called after thy name.

¹⁰ Then shal the Gentyles enquere after the rote of Iesse (whiche shalbe set vp for a token vnto the Gentyles) for hys dwellinge shalbe glorious.

² For lo, whyle the darcknesse and cloude couered the earth and the people, the Lorde shal shew the lyght, and hys glorye shalbe sene in the. ³ The Gentyles shal come to thy light, & kynges to the brightnes that springeth forth vpon the. ⁴ Lyft vp thyne eyes, & loke round aboute the: All these gather them selues, and come to the. Sonnes shal come vnto the from farre, and doughters shal gather them selues to the on euery syde. ⁵ When thou seyst this, thou shalt maruel exceadingly, and thine hert shal be opened: when the power of the sea shalbe conuerted vnto the (that is) when the strength of the Gentiles shall come vnto the. ⁶ The multitude of Camels shall couer the, the dromedaries of Madian and Epha. Al they of Saba shal come, bringinge golde and incense, and shewinge the prayse of the Lorde. ⁷ All the catel of Cedar shalbe gathered vnto the, the rammes of Nabaioth shall serue the, to be offred vpon myne aulter, whiche I haue chosen, and in the house of my glory, whiche I haue garnyshed. ⁸ But what are these that fle here like the cloudes, and as the doues flyenge to their wyndowes? ⁹ The Iles also shall gather them vnto me, and specially the shippes of the sea: that they maye bringe the sonnes from farre, and their syluer and their goulde with them, vnto the name of the Lorde thy God, vnto the holye one of Israel, that hath glorifyed the. ¹⁰ Straungers shall buylde vp thy walles, and their kinges shall do thy seruice. For when I am angrie, I smyte the: & when it pleaseth me, I pardon the. ¹¹ The gates shall stande open still both daye and night, and neuer be shut: that the hoste of the Gentiles may come, and that their kinges may be brought vnto the. ¹² For euery poeple & kingedom that serueth not the, shal perysh, and be destroyed with the swerd. ¹³ The glorye of Libanus shall come vnto the. The Fyrre trees, Boxes and Cedres together, to garnish the place of my Sanctuarye, for I will glorifie the place of my fete. ¹⁴ Moreouer those shall come knelinge vnto the, that haue vexed the: and al they that despised the, shal fall doune at thy fote. Thou shalt be called the citie of the Lorde, the holye Sion of Israel.

¹⁹ Vnto them shall I geue a token, and geue a certayne of them (that be delyuered) amonge the Gentyles: into Celycia, Africa and Lidia (where men can handle bowes) into Italye also and Greke lande. The Iles farre of, that haue not hearde speake of me, and haue not sene my glorye, shall preache my prayse amonge the Gentyles, ²⁰ and shall bringe all oure brethren for an offerynge vnto the Lorde, oute of all people vpon horses, charettes and horse litters, vpon Males and cartes to Ierusalem my holy hill (sayeth the Lorde) like as the children of Israel brynge the offerynge in cleane vessels, to the house of the Lorde. ²¹ And I shall take oute certayne of them for to be Pryestes and Leuytes, sayeth the Lorde.

²⁶ The woman was a Greke out of Syrophenicia, and she besought him that he woulde caste out the deuel out of her doughter.

³⁵ Then sayd the Iewes amonge them selues: whither wyll he go, that we shall not fynde him? Wyll he go amonge the gentyls which are scattered all abrode and teache the gentyls:

²⁷ And he arose and wente on. And beholde a man of Ethiopia, whiche was a chamberlayne, and of greate auctorite with Candace quene of the Ethiopians, and had the rule of all her treasure, came to Hierusalem for to praye.

¹ And it fortuned in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagoge of the Iewes, and so spake that a greate multitude bothe of the Iewes, and also of the grekes beleued.

¹ Then came he to Derba and to Lystra. And beholde a certayne disciple was there named Timotheus, a womans sonne whiche was a Ieweas and beleued: but hys father was a Greke.

⁴ And some of them beleued and came, and compayned with Paul and Sylas: also of the honorable Grekes a greate multytude, and of the chief women not a fewe.

²¹ wytnessyng both to the Iewes, and also to the Grekes, the repentaunce towarde God and fayth towarde oure Lorde Iesus.

²⁸ criyng: Ye men of Israell, healpe. Thys is the man that teacheth all men euerye where agaynste the people and the lawe, and this place. More ouer also he hath brought Grekes into the temple, & hath polluted thys holy place.

¹⁶ For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, because it is the power of God vnto saluacion to all that beleue, namely to the Iewe and also to the gentyle.

¹² There is no difference betwene the Iewe, & the gentyll. For one is Lorde of all whiche is ryche vnto all that call on hym.

³ Also Tytus which was wt me, though he were a Greke, yet was not compelled to be circumcysed,

²⁸ Nowe is there no Iewe neyther gentyle, ther is neyther bonde nor free: there is neyther man nor woman, but ye are all one thyng in christ Iesu.

¹¹ where is neyther Gentile nor Iew, circumcysion nor vncircumcision, Barbarous or Sythian, bond or fre: but Christ is all in al thinges.

² sayinge. Where is he that is borne kinge of Iewes? We haue sene his star in the east, and are come to worshyppe hym.

⁹ For I also my selfe am a man vndre power, & haue soudiers vnder me, & I say to one, go, & he goeth, and to an other come, & he cometh: and to my seruante, do this, he doeth it: ¹⁰ When Iesus hearde that, he maruailed & sayed to them that folowed him. Verely I say vnto you, I haue not founde so great faith: no, not in Israel. ¹¹ I say therfore vnto you that many shall come from the east and west, and shal rest with Abraham, Isaac and Iacob in the kingdome of heauen: ¹² and the children of the kingdome shall be cast out in the vtter darkenes: there shalbe wepinge and gnashynge of teth.

²¹ Wo be to the Chorasin. Wo be to the Bethzaida: for if the miracles which were shewed in you, had be done in Tyre and Sidon, they had repented longe agone in sackcloth and ashes.

¹⁹ He shall not striue, he shal not cry neither shal any man hear his voice in the stretes, ²⁰ a brosed rede shalnot he breake, & flaxe the beginneth to burne he shal not quenche, tyll he sende forth iudgemen vnto to victory, ²¹ and in his name shall the gentyls truste.

²² And beholde a woman whych was a Cananite came out of the same costes, and cryed vnto hym sayinge: haue mercy on me Lord the sonne of Dauid, my doughter is piteously vexed with a deuel. ²³ And he gaue her neuer a woorde to aunswer. Then came to hym hys disciples, & besoughte hym saying: sende her away, for she foloweth vs criyng. ²⁴ He aunswered, and saide: I am not sent, but vnto the lost shepe of the house of Israel. ²⁵ Then she came and worshipped him saiyng master helpe me. ²⁶ He aunswered & sayde: It is not good, to take thy chyldrens bread, & to cast it to dogges. ²⁷ She aunswered & said: truth Lord, neuerthelesse the whelpes eate of the crommes, whiche fall from their masters table. ²⁸ Then Iesus aunswered and sayd vnto her: O woman, great is thy fayth, be it to the euen as thou desirest. And her doughter was made whole, euen at that same houre.

² And behold, ther was a man named Zacheus, which was a ruler amonge the Publicans, and was riche also. ³ And he made meanes to se Iesus, what he shulde be, and coulde not for the prease, because he was of a lowe stature. ⁴ Wherfore he ran before and ascended vp into a wylde figge tree, to se him: for he should come that same way.

³⁶ And he behelde Iesus as he walked by, & sayde: beholde the lambe of God. ³⁷ And the .ij. disciples hearde him speake & foloweth Iesus. ³⁸ And Iesus turned aboute and sawe them folowe, and sayde vnto them: what seke ye? They sayde vnto him: Rabbi (which is to saye by interpretacion, Maister) wher dwellest thou? ³⁹ He sayed vnto them: come and se. They came and sawe wher he dwelte: and abode with him the daye. For it was aboute the tenth houre.

⁴³ The daye folowinge Iesus woulde go into Galyle, and founde Philip, and saide vnto him: folow me. ⁴⁴ Philip was of Bethsaida the citye of Andrewe and Peter. ⁴⁵ And Phylyp founde Nathanaell, and sayde vnto hym. We haue founde hym of whom Moyses in the lawe, and the prophetes did write: Iesus the sonne of Ioseph of Nazareth. ⁴⁶ And Nathanael said to him: Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saide to him: come and se. ⁴⁷ Iesus sawe Nathanael comminge to him and sayde of him: Beholde a right Israelyte, in whom is no gyle.

⁵ Then Iesus lift vp his eyes, and sawe a company come vnto him, and sayd vnto Phylip: whence shalt we bye bread that these might eate? ⁶ This he sayde to proue hym, for he him selfe knewe what he would do. ⁷ Philip aunswered him, two hondred peny worth of bread are not sufficient for them, that euerye man haue a litel.

⁴⁰ And this is the wyll of him that sent me: that euerye man which seeth the sonne and beleueth on him haue euerlasting lyfe. And I wyll rayse him vp at the laste daye.

⁸ Philip sayde vnto hym: Lorde shewe vs the father, and it suffyseth vs. ⁹ Iesus sayd vnto hym. Haue I bene so longe tyme with you, and yet haste thou not knowen me? Philip, he that hath sene me, hath sene the father. And how sayest thou then: shew vs the father?

⁸ And I saye that Iesu Christ was a mynyster of the circumcysyon for the trueth of God is to confyrme the promyses made vnto the fathers. ⁹ And let the Gentyles prayse God for hys mercye, as it is written: For thys cause I wyll prayse the amonge the Gentyles, & sing in thy name. ¹⁰ And agayne he sayth: reioyse ye Gentyles with his people. ¹¹ And agayn. Prayse the Lorde all ye gentyles, and laude hym all nacyons. ¹² And in another place Esayas saith: there shalbe the rote of Iesse, and he that shall ryse to reygne ouer the Gentyles: in hym shal the Gentyles truste.

⁵ These .xij. sent Iesus forth after he had geuen to them commaundement sainge Go not into the wayes that lead to the gentyls, & into the cityes of the Samaritanes enter ye not.

¹³ And they brought chyldren to hym, that he should touche them. And hys disciples rebuked those that brought them. ¹⁴ When Iesus sawe that he was displeased, and sayed to them. Suffer the chyldren to come vnto me, and forbyd them not. For of suche is the kyngdom of God.

⁴⁹ And Iohn aunswered and sayeth: Mayster we sawe one castyng out deuils in thy name, and we forbad hym, because he foloweth not with vs. ⁵⁰ And Iesus sayed vnto hym: forbyd ye hym not. For he that is not agaynste vs: is with vs.

⁴⁰ One of the two which hearde Iohn speake and folowed Iesus, was Andrew Simon Peters brother. ⁴¹ The same founde his brother Simon fyrst, and sayde vnto him: we haue founde Messias, which is by interpretation, anointed:

⁸ Then sayde vnto hym one of his disciples, Andrew Simon Peters brother.

⁵ And now sayth the Lord euen he that fashioned me from my mothers wombe to be his seruaunte, that I may bring Iacob agayne vnto him: howbe it, Israel wil not be gathered vnto hym agayne. In whose syght I am greate; whiche also is my Lorde my God and my strength. ⁶ Let it be but a smal thynge, that thou arte my seruaunte, to set vp the kynredes of Iacob, & to restore the destruccyon of Israel: yf I make the not also the light of the Gentiles. that thou mayest be my helthe vnto the ende of the worlde.

¹⁰ Yet hath it pleased the Lorde to smyte him with infirmite, that when he had made hys soule an offerynge for synne, he myght se longe lasting sede. And this deuyce of the Lord shall prospere in hys hande. ¹¹ Wyth trauayle and laboure of hys soule, shall he obtayne great ryches. My ryghtuous seruaunte shall wyth hys wysdome iustifye & delyuer the multitude, for he shal beare away theyr synnes, ¹² Therfore wyll I geue him the multytude for hys parte, and he shall deuyde the stronge spoyle because he shall geue ouer hys soule to death, & shalbe rekened amonge the transgressours, which neuertheles shall take away the sinnes of the multytude, and make intercessyon for the mysdoers.

⁵ Lo, thou shalte call an vnknowne people: & a people that had no knowledge of the, shall runne vnto the: because of the Lorde thy God, the holye one of Israell, which glorifieth the.

⁹ The Iles also shall gather them vnto me, and specially the shippes of the sea: that they maye bringe the sonnes from farre, and their syluer and their goulde with them, vnto the name of the Lorde thy God, vnto the holye one of Israel, that hath glorifyed the.

³¹ When the sonne of man cometh in hys glorye, and all the holye aungels with him, then shall he sytte vpon the seate of his glory,

⁴¹ And he came the thyrde tyme and sayd vnto them: slepe hence forth and take youre ease, it is ynough. The houre is come, beholde the sonne of man shalbe delyuered into the handes of synners.

¹⁶ These thinges vnderstode not hys discyples at the fyrst: but when Iesus was glorifyed, then remembred they that suche thynges were written of him, and that suche thynges they had done vnto hym.

¹ These wordes spake Iesus, & lyfte vp hys eyes to heauen, and said: father the houre is come: glorify thy sonne, that thy sonne maye glorifye the: ² as thou haste geuen hym power ouer all flesh, that he should geue eternall lyfe to as manye as thou hast geuen hym. ³ This is lyfe eternall that they myghte knowe, the that onely very God, and whome thou haste sente Iesus Christ. ⁴ I haue glorifyed the on the earthe. I haue finyshed the worke whiche thou gauest me to do. ⁵ And nowe glorifye me thou father with thyne owne selfe with the glorye which I had with the, yer the worlde was

⁹ I praye for them, and praye not for the worlde but for them whome thou haste geuen me, for they are thyne. ¹⁰ And all myne are thyne, and thyne are myne, and I am glorifyed in them.

⁹ But ye are a chosen generacyon, a royall priesthode, an holye nacyon and a peculyar people that ye shoulde shewe the vertues of hym that called you oute of darkenes into his marueylous lyght, ¹⁰ whiche in tyme past were not vnder mercye, but nowe haue obtayned mercye.

¹⁵ My strength is dryed vp lyke a potsherde, my tunge cleueth to my goomes, & thou haste brought me into the dust of death.

²² So wyll I declare thy name vnto my brethren, in the middest of the congregacion wyl I prayse the. ²³ O praise the Lord ye that feare him: Magnify hym all ye sede of Iacob, and let al the sede of Israel feare hym. ²⁴ For he hath not despised nor abhorred the miserable estate of the poore: he hath not hid hys face fro me, but when I called vnto him he herde me. ²⁵ I wyll prayse the in the great congregacion, and perfourme my vowes in the sighte of all them that feare the. ²⁶ The poore shall eate & be satisfied: they that seke after the Lord shal prayse hym: our hert shall lyue for euer. ²⁷ All the endes of the worlde shall remembre them selfes, and be turned vnto the Lorde: & all the generacions of the Heithen shal worshippe before hym. ²⁸ For the kyngdom is the Lordes, & he shal be the gouernour of the Heythen. ²⁹ All such as be fat vpon earth, shall eate also and worshippe. All they that lye in the dust, and lyue so hardly, shall fall doune before hym. ³⁰ The sede shall serue hym, and preache of the Lord for euer. ³¹ They shall come, and declare hys ryghteousnes: vnto a people that shallbe borne, whome the Lorde hath made.

¹⁶ There shalbe an heape of corne in the earth hye vpon the hilles, his frute shal shake like Libanus, and shalbe grene in the cytye, lyke grasse vpon the earth.

³² And I, yf I were lyft vp from the earth, will drawe all men vnto me. ³³ This sayde Iesus, signifyenge what death he shoulde dye.

³⁶ Thou fole, that whiche thou sowest is not quickened except it dye. ³⁷ And what sowest thou? Thou sowest not that bodye that shall be, but are corne (I meane either of what, or of some other) ³⁸ and God geueth it a body at his pleasure, to euery seede a seuerall body.

⁹ Neuertheles we yet se not all thinges subdued, but him that was made lesse then the Angelles, we se that it was Iesus, whiche is crowned with glory and honoure for the suffering of death, that he by the grace of God, should taste of death for al men. ¹⁰ For it became him, for whom are al thynges and by whom are al thinges, after that he had brought many sonnes vnto glory, that he should make the Lorde of their saluacyon perfect thorowe sufferinge.

⁹ After this I behelde, and lo a greate multitude (which no man coulde numbre) of al nacions and people, and tonges, stode before the seate, and before the lambe, clothed wyth longe whyte garmentes, and palmes in their handes, ¹⁰ and cried with a loude voyce, saying: saluacion be ascribed to him that sitteth vpon the seate of our God, and vnto the lamb. ¹¹ And all the Angelles stode in the compasse of the seate, and of the elders, and of the .iiij. beastes, and fell before the seate on theyr faces, & worshipped God ¹² saying, Amen: Blessing and glory, wisdome, and thankes, and honoure, and power & mighte, be vnto our God for euermore: Amen. ¹³ And one of the elders aunswered, saying vnto me: what are these, which are arayed in longe whyte garmentes, and whence came they? ¹⁴ And I sayd vnto hym: Lorde thou wotest. And he said vnto me: these are they which came out of great tribulacion, and made their garmentes large and made them white, in the bloude of the lambe, ¹⁵ therfore are they in the presence of the seate of God and serue hym daye and nyghte in his temple, and he that sitteth in the seate wyl dwell amonge them. ¹⁶ They shal honger no more neyther thyrste, neyther shal the sunne lyghte on them, neyther anye heate: ¹⁷ For the lambe, which is in the middes of the seate shall feede them, and shall leade them vnto fountaynes of lyuinge water, and God shall wype awaye al teares from theyr eyes.

³⁰ So lay he by Rahell also, & loued Rahell more then Lea, and serued hym yet .vij. yere more. ³¹ When the Lord sawe that Lea was despised he made hyr fruitful: but Rahel was baren. ³² And Lea conceaued & bare a sonne, & called eys name Ruben, for she sayd: the Lorde hath loked vpon my tribulation. And nowe my husband wyll loue me. ³³ And she conceaued agayne & bare a sonne, and sayd: the Lorde hath hearde that I am despysed, & hath therfore geuen me thys Sonne also, & she called hym Simeon.

¹⁷ Thus began I to be werye of my lyfe, in so muche that I coulde awaie wyth nothynge that is done vnder the Sunne, for all was but vanytye and vexacion of mynde:

³⁹ He that findeth hys lyfe, shal loose it: and he that looseth hys lyfe for my sake, shall fynde it.

²⁵ For whosoeuer will saue hys lyfe, shall loose it. And whosoeuer shall loose hys lyfe for my sake shall finde it.

²⁹ And whosoeuer forsaketh houses, or brethren, or systers, other father or mother, or wyfe or chyldren, or landes, for my names sake, the same shal receyue an .C. folde, & shal enherite euerlasting life.

³⁵ For whosoeuer wil saue his lyfe. shall lowse it. But whosoeuer shal lowse his life for my sake and the gospels: the same shall saue it.

²³ And he sayed to them all, if anye man wyll come after me, let him denye hym selfe, & take vp his crosse dayly, and folowe me. ²⁴ Whosoeuer wyll saue his lyfe, shall lose it. And whosoeuer shall lose his lyfe for my sake, the same shall saue it.

²⁶ If a man come to me, and hate not hys father and mother, and wyfe, and chyldren and brethren & systers, moreouer and hys owne lyfe, he can not be my disciple.

³³ Whosoeuer wyll go about to saue his lyfe, shal lose it. And whosoeuer shal lose hys lyfe, shall saue it.

²⁴ But none of these thinges moue me: neyther is my lyfe dere vnto my selfe: that I myght fulfyl my course with ioye, and the ministracyon whiche I haue receyued of the Lord Iesus, to testifye the gospell of the grace of God.

¹³ Then Paul aunswered and sayd: what do ye wepynge and breakyng myne hert? I am ready not to be bound onelye: but also to dye at Hierusalem for the name of the Lorde Iesus.

³⁵ And the women receyued theyr dead raysed to lyfe agayne. Other were racked, and woulde not be delyuered, that they myghte receyue a better resurreccyon.

¹¹ And they ouercame hym by the bloude of the lambe, and by the worde of theyr testimony, and they loued not theyr liues vnto the death.

²⁴ But my seruaunt Caleb: because there is another maner spirite with him, and because he hath folowed me vnto the vtmost: him I wil bryng into the lande whyche he hath walked in, & hys seed shall conquere it,

¹¹ None of the men that came out of Egypte from twenty yere olde and aboue, shal se the lande whych I sware vnto Abraham, Isaac and Iacob, because they haue not contynually folowed me:

³⁰ Wherfore the Lorde God of Israel sayth: I sayde that thyne house and the house of thy father shulde haue walked before me for euer. But now the Lorde sayth: that be farre from me: for them that worshyppe me, I wyll worshyp, & they that despyse me, shalbe despised.

¹⁵ But as for me, I wil beholde thy presence in righteousnes: and when thy glory appeareth, I shall be satisfied.

¹⁵ When he calleth vpon me, I shall heare hym: yea, I am with hym in hys trouble, wherout I will deliuer him, and bring hym to honoure.

¹⁸ Who so kepeth his fyggetre, shall enioye the fruytes therof he that wayteth vpon hys master, shal come to honoure.

²⁴ Iesus then sayde to hys disciples. If anye man will folow me, let hym forsake hym selfe, and take vp hys crosse and folowe me.

²¹ Then his maister sayde vnto him: Well good seruaunt and faithfull. Thou hast bene faythfull in litle, I wyll make the rueler ouer muche enter in into thy maisters ioye.

³⁴ And he called the people vnto hym, wyth his disciples also, and sayde vnto them: Whosoeuer will folowe me, let hym forsake hym self, and take vp his crosse and folow me.

⁴⁶ Why call ye me Maister Maister, and do not as I byd you?

²³ And he sayed to them all, if anye man wyll come after me, let him denye hym selfe, & take vp his crosse dayly, and folowe me.

²⁷ my shepe heare my voice, & I know them, and they folowe me,

¹⁶ Verelye verelye I say vnto you: the seruaunte is not greater then hys mayster, neyther the messenger greater then he that sent hym.

³ And yf I go to prepare a place for you, I wyl come agayne, and receyue you euen vnto my self, that wher I am, there may ye be also.

¹⁵ Yf ye loue me, kepe my commaundementes

²¹ He that hathe my commaundementes and kepeth them, the same is he that loueth me. And he that loueth me, shal be loued of my father: And I will loue hym, and will shewe myne owne selfe to him. ²² Iudas sayd vnto hym (not Iudas Iscarioth) Lord what is the cause that thou wilte shewe thy selfe vnto vs, & not vnto the worlde? ²³ Iesus aunswered and sayd vnto hym, yf a man loue me, and will kepe my saiynges, my father also will loue hym & we will come vnto hym, and will dwell to hym.

²⁰ Remember the saiyng that I sayde vnto you: the seruaunt is not greater then the lorde, yf they haue persecuted me, so wyll they persecute you: yf they haue kept my saiynges, so wyll they kepe yours.

²⁴ Father, I will that they which thou haste geuen me, be with me where I am, that they maye se my glory which thou hast geuen me. For thou louedest me before the makynge of the worlde.

²² Iesus sayde vnto him: Yf I wyll haue him to tarye tyll I come, what is that to the? folow thou me.

¹ Paule the seruaunte of Iesus Christ called to be an Apostle, put aparte to preache the Gospel of God,

¹⁸ For whosoeuer in these thynges serueth Christe, pleaseth well God, & is commendeth of men.

⁵ For we preache not oure selues, but Christ Iesus to be the Lorde, and oure selues youre seuauntes for Iesus sake.

⁸ Neuerthelesse we are of good comforte, and had leuer be absente from the bodye, and to be presente with the Lorde.

¹⁰ Preache I mans doctryne or Goddes? Eyther go I aboute to please men? Yf I studyed to please men, I were not the seruauat of Christe.

¹ Be ye folowers of God as deare children, ² and walke in loue euen as Christe loued vs, and gaue hym selfe for vs, an offeringe, and a sacrifice of a swete sauoure to God.

²³ I wote not. I am constrayned of two thinges: I desire to be lowsed and to be wyth Christe, whiche thinge is best of all.

²⁴ for as muche as ye know that of the Lorde ye shall receiue the reward of inheritaunce, for ye serue the Lorde Christ.

¹² Epaphras the seruaunte of Christe, which is one of you, saluteth you, and alwaies laboureth feruentlye for you in prayers, that ye maye stande perfecte and full in all that is the wyll of God.

¹⁷ then shal we which lyue and remayne, be caught vp with them also in the cloudes, to meate the Lorde in the ayer. And so shall we euer be with the Lord. ¹⁸ Wherfore comforte youre selues one another with these wordes.

¹ Simon Peter a seruaunte, and an Apostle of Iesus Christe, to them whyche haue obtained lyke precyous faith wyth vs in the rightuousnes that commeth of oure God and sauiour Iesu Christ.

³ This is the loue of God, that we kepe his commaundementes, and his commaundementes are not greuous.

¹ Iudas the seruaunte of Iesus Christ, the brother of Iames. To them whyche are called & sanctyfied in God the father, and preserued in Iesu Christe.

⁴ These are they, whiche were not defyled wt women for they are virgins. These folowe the lamb whether so euer goeth. These were redemed from men being the fyrst frutes vnto God & to the lamb,

¹ To the chaunter vpon Sosanim of Dauid. Helpe me, O god, for the waters are come in, euen vnto my soule. ² I stycke fast in the depe myre where no ground is: I am come into depe waters, and the floudes wyll drowne me. ³ I am weery of crying, my throte is drye, my sight fayleth me, for waytinge so longe, vpon my God.

³ For my soule is full of trouble, and my lyfe draweth nye vnto hell.

¹⁵ What shall I speake or saye, that he may this do? That I may lyue out all my yeares, yee in the bytternesse of my lyfe?

³ He shalbe the most simple, and despysed of all, which yet hath good experience of sorowes & infyrmyties. We shall reken him so symple and so vyle, that we shall hyde our faces from hym.

²⁵ At that time Iesus aunswered and said: I prayse the, O father Lorde of heauen and earth, because thou hast hid these thinges from the wyse and prudent, and hast opened theim vnto babes:

³⁸ Then said Iesus vnto them: my soule is heauy euen to the death. Tary ye here & watche with me. ³⁹ And he went a lytell aparte, and fell flat on hys face and prayed sayinge: O my father, yf it be possible, let thys cup passe from me: neuerthelesse not as I wyll, but as thou wilte.

⁴² He wente awaye once more, & prayed, sayinge: O my father, yf thys cup can not passe awaye from me, but that I drinke of it, thy wyl be fulfylled.

⁵³ Eyther thynkest thou that I can not nowe praye to my father, and he shal geue me more then .xij. legyons of Angelles? ⁵⁴ But how then shoulde the scriptures be fulfylled: for so must it be.

³³ And he toke with him Peter, Iames, and Iohn, & he began to waxe abashed, and to be in an agonye, ³⁴ and said vnto them: My soule is very heauye euen vnto the death: tarye here & watche. ³⁵ And he wente forthe a litle and fell doune on the grounde, and prayed: that yf it were possyble, the houre myght passe from hym. ³⁶ And he sayde: Abba father, all thynges are possyble vnto the, take awaye this cup from me. Neuerthelesse, not that I wyll but that thou wylte, be done.

⁴⁹ I am come to sende fyre on earth, & what is my desyre but that it were all ready kyndled? ⁵⁰ Notwithstandyng I muste be baptysed with a baptisme, and howe am I payned tyll it be ended?

⁴⁴ And he was in agonye, and praied some what longer. And his sweate was lyke droppes of bloude trycklinge doune to the grounde.

⁵³ When I was dayly with you in temple, ye stretched not forth handes agaynste me. But this is euen youre verye houre, and the power of darcknes.

³³ When Iesus sawe her wepe, and the Iewes also wepe which came with her, he groned in the spirite, and was troubled in hym self, ³⁴ & sayd: Where haue ye layed hym? They sayde vnto hym: Lorde, come and se. ³⁵ And Iesus wepte.

⁴¹ Then they toke awaye the stone from that place where the dead was layde. And Iesus lyft vp hys eyes, and sayde: Father I thanke the because that thou haste hearde me.

²¹ When Iesus had thus sayed, he was troubled in the spirite, and testifyed, saiynge: verelye verelye I saye vnto you, that one of you shall betraye me.

³⁷ Pilate sayed to him: Arte thou a kynge then? Iesus aunswered: Thou sayest that I am a kynge. For thys cause was I borne, and for thys cause came I into the worlde, that I shoulde beare wytnes vnto the trueth. And al that are of the trueth heare my voyce.

¹⁵ Thys is a true saiynge and by all meanes worthy to be receyued, that Christ Iesus came into the worlde to saue synners, of whom I am chiefe.

¹⁴ For as muche then as the children were partetakers of fleshe and bloude, he also him selfe lyke wyse toke part wyth them, for to put doune thorowe death, that is to saye the deuyll,

⁷ Which in the daies of his flesh did offer vp praiers and supplications, wyth strong criynge and teares, vnto him that was able to saue hym from death, and was also hearde because of his Godlines.

⁵ Wherfore, when he commeth into the world he sayth: Sacrifyce and offerynge thou wouldest not haue: but a body hast thou ordeyned me. ⁶ In sacryfyces and synne offerynges thou hast not luste. ⁷ Then I saide: Lo I come, in the cheyfest in the boke it is wrytten of me, that I should do thy wil, o God. ⁸ Aboue when he had sayd sacryfyce and offerynge, and burnte sacrifices and synne offerynges thou wouldest not haue, neither hast alowed (whyche yet are offered by the lawe) ⁹ and then sayd, Lo I come to do thy wyll, O God: he taketh awaye the fyrste to stablysshe the latter.

³ and sayde vnto me: Thou arte my seruaunt Israel, I wylbe honoured in the. ⁴ Then aunswered I: I shall lese my laboure, I shall spende my strength in vayne. Neuertheles, I wyll commytte my cause and my worcke vnto the Lorde my God. ⁵ And now sayth the Lord euen he that fashioned me from my mothers wombe to be his seruaunte, that I may bring Iacob agayne vnto him: howbe it, Israel wil not be gathered vnto hym agayne. In whose syght I am greate; whiche also is my Lorde my God and my strength. ⁶ Let it be but a smal thynge, that thou arte my seruaunte, to set vp the kynredes of Iacob, & to restore the destruccyon of Israel: yf I make the not also the light of the Gentiles. that thou mayest be my helthe vnto the ende of the worlde. ⁷ Moreouer thus sayth the Lorde the auenger and holye one of Israel, because of the abhorrynge and despysynge amonge the Gentyles, concernynge the seruaunte of all them that beare rule: Kynges and prynces shall se, and aryse and worshyppe, because of the Lord that he is faythfull: and because of the holye one of Israell, which hath chosen the.

¹⁷ And lo ther came a voice from heauen sayinge. This is my beloued sonne in whom is my delyte.

⁵ Whyle he yet speake, beholde a bryght cloude shadowed theim. And beholde there came a voyce out of the cloude, sayinge: this is my deare sonne, in whome I delite heare hym.

¹¹ And there came a voyce from heauen: Thou arte my dere sonne in whom I delyte.

⁷ And there was a cloude that shadowed them. And a voyce came out of the cloud saying: This is my deare sonne, heare hym.

³⁶ And he sayde: Abba father, all thynges are possyble vnto the, take awaye this cup from me. Neuerthelesse, not that I wyll but that thou wylte, be done.

²² and the holye ghost came doune in a bodelye shape lyke a done vpon him, and a voyce came from heauen saiynge: thou art my deare sonne, in the do I delyte.

³⁵ And ther came a voice out of the cloude saiynge. This is my deare sonne, heare hym.

³ Iesus aunswered: Neyther hath thys man synned nor yet hys father and mother: but that the workes of God shoulde be shewed on him.

⁴ When Iesus hearde, that he sayed: this infirmitie is not vnto death, but for the laude of God that the sonne of God myght be praysed by the reason of it.

⁴⁰ Iesus sayed vnto her: Sayd I not vnto the, that yf thou dyddest beleue, thou shouldest se the glory of God. ⁴¹ Then they toke awaye the stone from that place where the dead was layde. And Iesus lyft vp hys eyes, and sayde: Father I thanke the because that thou haste hearde me. ⁴² I wote that thou hearest me alwayes: but because of the people that stande by, I sayed it, that they may beleue that thou hast sent me.

¹¹ Then sayed Iesus vnto Peter: put vp thy swerde into the sheath: shall I not drinke of the cup whiche my father hathe geuen me?

⁷ for to shewe in tymes to come the excedinge riches of hys grace in kyndnes to vswarde in Christe Iesus.

¹⁰ to the entente, that nowe vnto the rulers & powers in heauen myght be knowen (by the congregation) the manifolde wysedome of God,

²¹ be prayse in the congregation by Iesus Christe, thorowout al generacions, from time to time. Amen.

⁶ and am surelye certifyed of this, that he whyche began a good worke in you, shall go forth wyth it vntyll the daye of Iesus Christe, ⁷ as it becommeth me so to iudge of you al, because I haue you in my herte, and haue you also euerye one companions of grace wyth me, euen in my boundes as I defende and stablishe the Gospel. ⁸ For God beareth me recorde howe greatlye I longe after you all from the very herte rote in Iesus Christe. ⁹ And this I praye, that youre loue maye increase more and more in knowledge, and in al fealinge, ¹⁰ that ye myght accepte thinges moste excellent, that ye might be pure and such as should hurte no mannes conscience, vntyll the daye of Christe, ¹¹ fylled with the fruites of rightuousnes, which fruites come by Iesus Christ vnto the glory and laude of God.

¹⁷ when he receiued of God the father honoure and glory, and when there came such a voice to hym from the excellente glorie: This is my deare beloued sonne in whome I haue delyte.

⁹ and they songe a new songe saiyng: thou art worthy to take the boke, and to open the seales therof: for thou wast kylled, & hast redemed vs by thy bloud out of al kynredes, and tonges, and people, and nacions ¹⁰ and hast made vs to our God, kynges, and priestes, & we shal reigne on the earth. ¹¹ And I behelde, and I heard the voyce of many angels about the throne, and about the beastes, and the elders, and I heard thousande thousandes, ¹² sayinge wyth a loud voyce: Worthy is the lamb that was kylled to receiue power, and riches, and wysdome, and strength, and honoure, & glorye and blessing. ¹³ And al creatures whiche are in heauen, and on the earth, and vnder the earth, and in the sea, and al that are in them hearde I saiynge: blessing, honour, glory, and power be vnto him that sytteth vpon the seate, and to the Lambe for euermore. ¹⁴ And the foure beastes sayd Amen. And the .xxiiij. elders fel vpon theyr faces, and worshypped hym that liueth for euermore.

¹⁶ And the thyrde daye in the mornyng there was thunder, & lightening & a thicke cloude vpon the mounte, & the voice of the horne waxed exceadynge loude, & all the people that was in the hoste was afrayed.

¹⁸ And all the people sawe the thunder & the lighteninge & the noyse of the horne, & howe the mountayne smoked. And when the people sawe it, they remoued & stode a ferre of

² Heare then the sounde of hys voyce, & the noyse that goeth out of hys mouth. ³ He gouerneth euery thing vnder the heauen, & his lyghte reacheth vnto the ende of the worlde. ⁴ A roarynge voyce foloweth hym: for hys gloryous maiestye geueth suche a thondre clappe, that (though a man heare it) yet may he not perceiue it afterward. It geueth an horryble sounde, ⁵ when God sendeth oute hys voyce: greate thynges doth he, whiche we can not comprehende.

⁹ Is thyne arme then lyke the arme of God? Maketh thy voyce such a sound as hys doeth?

⁵ Yea and the sounde of the Cherubyns winges was heard into the fore court lyke as it had bene the voyce of the almyghty God, when he speaketh.

⁸ For the Saduces saye, that there is no resurreccyon, neyther aungell, nor spirite. But the Pharyseis graunte both. ⁹ And there arose a great crye, and the Scrybes whiche were of the Phariseys parte arose and stroue, saiyng: we fynde none euyll in thys man. Thoughe a spirite or an angell haue appeared to hym, let vs not stryue agaynst God.

¹ And I saw when the Lambe opened one of the seales, and I hearde one of the .iiij. beastes saye, as it were the noyse of thonder, come and se.

⁵ And the angell toke the senser, and fylled it wyth fyre of the aultare, and caste it into the earth, and voyces were made, and thonderinges and lighteninges, and earth quakes.

¹⁹ And the temple of God was opened in heauen, and there was sene in hys temple the arcke of hys testamente, and there folowed lyghtenynges, and voyces, and thonderynge and eartquake and muche hayle

² And I hearde a voice from heauen, as the sounde of manye waters, and as the voice of a greate thunder. And I hearde the voyce of harpers harping with their harpes.

¹ And after that I saw another angel come from heauen, hauinge greate power, & the earth was lightened wt his brighnes. ² And he cryed mightely with a strong voyce, saing: Great Babylon is fallen, is fallen: and is become the habitacion of deuilles, and the holde of al foule spyrytes, and a cage of al vncleane and hateful byrdes,

³⁴ But I receiue not the recorde of man Neuerthelesse, these thinges I say that ye might be safe.

¹⁵ and I am glad for youre sakes, that I was not there, because ye may beleue. Neuerthelesse let vs go vnto him.

⁹ Ye knowe the lyberalytie of oure Lorde Iesus Christe, whiche though he were ryche, yet for youre sakes became pore that ye thorowe hys pouertye myght be made ryche.

¹⁵ Moreouer, I wyll put hatred betwene the & the woman, & betwene thy seed and her seed. And that seed shall tread the on thy heed, and thou shalt treade it on the hele.

²⁴ Who spoyleth the gyaunte of hys praye? or who taketh the presoner from the mightye?

²⁸ But if I cast out the deuyls by the sprete of God: then is the kingdome of God come on you?

¹⁷ And the seuenty returned againe with ioye saiynge. Lorde euen the very deuyls are subdued to vs throughe thy name. ¹⁸ And he sayde vnto them: I sawe Sathan, as it had bene lyghtenynge, fall doune from heauen. ¹⁹ Beholde, I geue vnto you power to treade on serpentes & scorpions, & ouer all maner power of the enemye, and nothynge shall hurte you.

²² Neyther iudgeth the father anye man: but hath committed all iudgement vnto the sonne, ²³ because that all men should honoure the sonne, euen as they honoured the father. He that honoureth not the sonne: the same honoureth not the father, which hath sent him. ²⁴ Verely, verely I say vnto you he that heareth my wordes, and beleueth on him that sent me, hath euerlasting lyfe, & shal not come into damnacion: but is escaped from death vnto lyfe. ²⁵ Verely verely, I saye vnto you: The tyme shall come, and nowe is, when the dead shall heare the voyce of the sonne of God. And they that heare shall lyue. ²⁶ For as the father hath lyfe in him selfe, so lykewyse hath he geuen to the sonne to haue lyfe in him selfe, ²⁷ and hath geuen him power also to iudge, in that he is the sonne of man.

³⁰ Here after will I not talke manye wordes vnto you. For the ruler of thys world cometh and hath noughte in me.

⁸ And when he is come, he wil rebuke the world of synne, and of ryghteousnesse, and of iudgement ⁹ Of synne, because they beleue not on me: ¹⁰ of ryghteousnesse, because I go to my father, and then ye shall not se me, ¹¹ and of iudgement, because the chiefe ruler of this worlde is iudged already.

¹⁸ to open theyr eyes, that they myght turne from darckenes to lyght, and from the power of Satan vnto God: that they maye receiue forgeuenes of synnes, and inheritaunce amonge them whyche are sanctyfyed by fayth in me.

⁴ in whome the God of thys worlde hath blynded the myndes of them which beleue not, leste the lyght of the gloryous gospell of Christe which is the ymage of God shoulde shyne vnto them.

¹ And you hath he quickened also that were deade in treaspas & synne, ² in the whiche in time passed, yet walked accordynge to the course of thys worlde, & after the gouerner that ruleth in the ayer, the spyrite that nowe worketh in the chyldren of vnbelefe,

¹² For we wrestle not againste fleshe and bloude: but against rule, agaynst power, and againste worldlye rulers of the darckenes of thys worlde, againste spyrytuall wickednes, for heauenly thynges.

¹⁵ and hath spoiled rule and power and hath made a shewe of them openlye, and hath tryumphed ouer them in hys owne persone.

⁸ He that committeth sinne, is of the deuil, for the deuil sinneth sence the beginninge. For this purpose appered the sonne of God to lowse the workes of the deuil.

⁴ Lytel chyldren, ye are of God, and haue ouercome them, for greater is he that is in you, then he that is in the world.

¹⁹ We knowe that we are of God, and that the world is altogether set on wyckednes.

⁹ And the great dragon, that olde serpente called the deuyll and Sathanas was caste out. Whiche deceyueth al the worlde. And he was cast into the earth, and his angelles were cast out also. ¹⁰ And I hearde a loude voyce sayinge: in heauen is nowe made saluacyon, and strength and the kyngdome of our God, and the power of hys Christe. For he is caste doune, whyche accused them before God daye and nyghte. ¹¹ And they ouercame hym by the bloude of the lambe, and by the worde of theyr testimony, and they loued not theyr liues vnto the death.

² And he toke the dragon that olde serpent which is the deuyl and Satanas, & he bound him a thousand yeares: ³ and cast him into the botomles pyt, and he bounde hym, and set a seale on him, that he shuld deceyue the people nomore, tyl the thousand yeares were fulfilled. And after that he must be loused for a lytle season.

²² If a man haue committed a trespace worthy of death & is put to death for it and hanged on tre: ²³ let not hys body remayne al nyghte vpon the treee, but burye hym the same daye, For the curse of God is on him that is hanged. Defile not thy lande therefore, whyche the Lorde thy God geueth the to enheret.

⁹ And it chaunced Absalom to come before the seruauntes of Dauid rydynge vpon a Mule whiche caryed hym vnder the thycke bowes of a great Oke. And his heade caught in the Oke, and he was left betwene heauen and earth, and the Mule that was vnder him, went his waye.

¹⁶ For dogges are come about me, the counsail of the wicked hath layed seage against me. They pearsed my handes and my fete, ¹⁷ I might haue tolde all my bones: as for them, they stode staryng and lokyng vpon me. ¹⁸ They haue parted my garmentes among them, and cast lottes vpon my vesture.

⁴ yea, that same moueth me also to runne after the. The King hath brought me into his preuy chambre. We wil be glad and reioyce in the, we thynke more of thy brestes then of wyne: well is them that loue the.

⁶ Let it be but a smal thynge, that thou arte my seruaunte, to set vp the kynredes of Iacob, & to restore the destruccyon of Israel: yf I make the not also the light of the Gentiles. that thou mayest be my helthe vnto the ende of the worlde.

⁴ I led them with coardes of frendshyppe, and bandes of loue. I was euen he, that layed the yocke vpon their neckes. I gaue them my foder my self,

⁷ These same came as a wytnes to beare wytnes of the lyght, that all men through him myght beleue.

¹⁴ And as Moyses lyfte vp the serpent in the wyldernes, euen so muste the sonne of man be lyft vp,

⁴⁴ No man can come to me: except the father which hath sent me drawe him. And I wyll rayse him vp at the laste day.

²⁸ Then sayde Iesus vnto them: when ye haue lyfte vp an hye the sonne of man, then shall ye knowe, that I am he, and that I do nothynge of my self: but as my father hath taught me, euen so I speake:

³⁴ The people aunswered hym: We haue hearde oute of the lawe, that Christe bydeth euer: and howe sayest thou then that the sonne of man muste be lyfte vp? who is that sonne of man?

¹⁷ & he bare his crosse, & went forth into a place called the place of dead mens sculles, which is named in Hebrewe Golgatha,

¹⁷ For if by the synne of one death reygned by the meanes of one: muche more shall they whiche receyue aboundaunce of grace & of the gyfte of ryghtuousnes reigne in life by the meanes of one (that is to saye) Iesus Christe. ¹⁸ Lykewyse then as by the synne of one, condemnacion came on al men: euen so by the iustifiyng of one commeth the ryghtuousnes that bryngeth lyfe vpon al men. ¹⁹ For as by one mans disobedience many became synners: so by the obedience of one, shall manye be made ryghtuouse.

¹³ But Christ hath delyuered vs from the curse of the lawe, and was made accursed for vs. For it is wrytten: cursed is euery one that hangeth on tre,

⁶ which gaue hym self a raunsome for al men, that it shoulde be testifyed at hys tyme,

⁹ Neuertheles we yet se not all thinges subdued, but him that was made lesse then the Angelles, we se that it was Iesus, whiche is crowned with glory and honoure for the suffering of death, that he by the grace of God, should taste of death for al men.

²⁴ which hys owne selfe bare oure synnes in hys body on the tree, that we shoulde be delyuered from synne, and shoulde lyue in ryghtuousnes. By whose strypes ye were healed.

¹⁸ For as much as Christ hath ones suffered for sinners, the iuste for the vniuste, for to bringe vs to God, and was kylled, as perteininge to the fleshe: but was quickened in the spirite.

⁹ and they songe a new songe saiyng: thou art worthy to take the boke, and to open the seales therof: for thou wast kylled, & hast redemed vs by thy bloud out of al kynredes, and tonges, and people, and nacions

³² That the wordes of Iesus might be fulfylled, whiche he spake, signifiynge what death he shoulde dye.

¹⁹ That spake he, signyfyeng by what death he should glorifie God. And when he had saied thus, he sayed to hym: folowe me.

¹³ And he shal buylde an house for my name, & I wyll stablyshe the seate of hys kyngdome for euer:

⁷ In hys tyme shall righteousnesse florysh, yea, and aboundaunce of peace, so longe as the moone endureth.

³⁶ Hys sede shall endure for euer, and hys seate also lyke as the sunne before me. ³⁷ He shall stande faste for euermore as the moone, and as the faythfull wytnesse in heauen. Selah.

⁴ The Lorde sware, and wyll not repente: Thou arte a priest for euer after the order of Melchisedec.

⁷ he shall make no ende to encrease the kyngedome and peace, and shall sytte vpon the seate of Dauid, and in his kyngedome, to set vp the same, to stablyshe it wyth equyte and ryghteousnesse, from thence forth for euermore. This shall the gelousy of the Lorde of hostes brynge to paste.

⁸ He shall be had awaye, hys cause not hearde, & wythout any iudgement: Whose generacion yet no man maye nombre, when he shalbe cut of from the grounde of the lyuyng: Which punishment shall go vpon him, for the transgression of my people.

²⁴ Dauid my seruaunt shalbe their kinge, & they all shal haue one shepherde onely. They shall walke in my lawes, & my commaundementes shall they both kepe and fulfil. ²⁵ They shal dwel in the lande, that I gaue vnto Iacob my seruaunt, where as youre fathers also haue dwelt. Yea, euen in the same lande shall they, their chyldren, & their childers chyldren dwell for euermore: and my seruaunt Dauid shalbe their euerlastinge prince.

⁴⁴ In the dayes of these kinges shall the God of heauen set vp an euerlastynge kyngdome whiche shall not peryshe, and hys kyngdome shall not be geuen ouer to another people: yea the same shal breake and destroy al these kingdomes, but it shall endure foreuer.

¹⁴ Then gaue he hym power and dignitie regal, that al people trybes and tunges shoulde serue him. Hys power is an euerlastynge power, whych shal neuer be put doune, and his kingdome endureth vncorrupte.

²⁷ As for the kingedome, power and all might that is vnder the heauen, it shalbe geuen to the holy people of the most hyest, whose kingedome is euerlastinge, yea all powers shall serue & obeye him.

⁷ & wyll geue yssue vnto the lame, and make of the out castes a greate people: and the Lorde hym selfe shalbe their kynge vpon the mount Sion, from this tyme forth for euermore.

²⁰ And Iesus sayd vnto him: the foxes haue holes, and the birddes of the ayer haue nestes, but the sonne of man hath not wheron to rest his heade.

¹³ When Iesus came into the costes of the citie whych is called Cesarea Philippi, he axed his disciples sayinge: whome do men saye that I the sonne of man am?

¹⁰ And when he was come into Ierusalem all the cytye was moued sayinge: who is thys?

⁴² saying: what thynke ye of Christ? Whose sonne is he? They sayed vnto him: the sonne of Dauid. ⁴³ He sayed vnto them: how then doeth Dauid in sprite, call him Lorde, sayenge: ⁴⁴ The Lorde sayed to my Lord sit on my righthande: tyl I make thyne enemyes thy fotestole. ⁴⁵ If Dauid call hym Lorde, how is he than hys sonne?

¹⁴ And as Moyses lyfte vp the serpent in the wyldernes, euen so muste the sonne of man be lyft vp, ¹⁵ that none that beleueth in him perish, but haue eternall life. ¹⁶ For God so loueth the worlde, that he hath geuen his only sonne, that none that beleue in him, should perishe: but should haue euerlastinge lyfe.

⁵³ Art thou greater then oure father Abraham which is dead? And the Prophetes are dead: Whome makest thou thy selfe? ⁵⁴ Iesus answered. Yf I honoure my selfe, myne honoure is nothynge worthe. It is my father, that honoureth me, which you saye is youre God, ⁵⁵ and ye haue not knowen hym: but I knowe hym, And yf I shoulde saye: I knowe hym not, I shoulde be a lyer lyke vnto you. But I knowe hym, and kepe hys saiynge. ⁵⁶ Your father Abraham was glad to se my daye and he sawe it, and reioyced. ⁵⁷ Then sayed the Iewes vnto hym: thou arte not yet .l. yeares olde, and hast thou sene Abraham? ⁵⁸ Iesus said vnto them: Verelye verely I saye vnto you: yer Abraham was I am.

³⁴ Iesus aunswered them: is it not wrytten in youre lawe. I saye: ye are Goddes?

³² And I, yf I were lyft vp from the earth, will drawe all men vnto me.

²⁵ euen that the saiyng might be fulfilled that is writen in their lawe: they hated me without a cause.

¹⁹ Yea and we knowe that whatsoeuer the law sayeth, he saith it to them which are vnder the lawe. That all mouthes maye be stopped, and all the world be subdued to God,

¹⁸ Lykewyse then as by the synne of one, condemnacion came on al men: euen so by the iustifiyng of one commeth the ryghtuousnes that bryngeth lyfe vpon al men.

²² Let their table be made a snare to take them selues with all, an occasyon to fall and a reward vnto them. ²³ Let their eyes be blinded, that they se not: and euer bow downe their backes. ²⁴ Power out thyne indignacyon vpon them, and let thy wrathfull dyspleasure take holde of them. ²⁵ Let theyr habytacyon be voyd, and no man to dwel in ther tentes. ²⁶ For they persecute hym whom thou hast smytten, and besyde thy woundes they haue geuen him mo. ²⁷ Let them fall from one wyckednesse to another, and not come into thy ryghtuousnesse. ²⁸ Let them be wyped out of the boke of the lyuynge, and not be wrytten amonge the ryghtuous.

¹⁹ But the waye of the vngodly is as the darcknes, wherin men fal, or thei be aware.

⁵ It is to the that I crye (O house of Iacob) vp, let vs walck in the lyghte of the Lorde,

⁶ I the Lorde haue called the in rightuousnesse, & led the by the hande. Therfore wyll I also defende the, and geue the for a couenaunt of the people, and to be the lyght of the Gentyles. ⁷ That thou mayest open the eyes of the blynde, let out the prisoners, & them that syt in darknesse, out of the dongeon house.

¹⁶ Honoure the Lorde youre God herein, or he take hys lyght from you, and or euer youre fete stomble in darcknesse at the hylle lest when ye loke for the lyght, he turne it into the shadowe and darcknesse of death. ¹⁷ But yf ye wyll not heare me, that geue you secrete warnyng, I will mourne fro my whole hert for youre stubburnesse. Pyteouslye wyll I wepe, and the teares shall gusshe out of myne eyes. For the Lordes flocke shall be caryed awaye captyue.

⁵ & the lyght shyneth in the darknes, but the darknes comprehended it not. ⁶ Ther was a man sent from God, whose name was Iohn. ⁷ These same came as a wytnes to beare wytnes of the lyght, that all men through him myght beleue. ⁸ He was not that lyght but to beare witnes of the lyght. ⁹ That was a true lyght, which lyghted all men that come into the worlde.

³³ Then sayde Iesus vnto them: Yet am I a lytle while with you, and then go I vnto hym that sent me.

¹² Then spake Iesus agayne vnto them, saiynge. I am the lyghte of the worlde. He that foloweth me, shall not walke in darkenes: but shall haue the lyghte of lyfe.

⁴ I must work the workes of hym that sente me, whyle it is daye. The nyghte cometh, when no man can worke. ⁵ As longe as I am in the worlde, I am the lyght of the worlde.

¹⁰ But yf a man walke in the nyght, he stombleth, because there is no lyght in him.

³⁶ Whyle ye haue lyghte, beleue on the lyght, that ye maye be the chyldren of light. These thynges spake Iesus, and departed, and hyd hym selfe from them.

³⁹ Therfore coulde they not beleue, because that Esayas sayth agayne: ⁴⁰ he hath blynded theyr eyes and hardened theyr hertes, that they shoulde not se with theyr eyes, and vnderstand with theyr hertes, and shoulde be conuerted, and I shoulde heale them.

⁴⁶ I am come a lyght into the worlde, that whosoeuer beleueth on me, shoulde not byde in darknes.

¹⁶ After a whyle ye shall not se me: & agayne after a whyle ye shall se me: for I go to the father.

⁷ What then? Israell hath not obtayned that, that he soughte. No but the electyon hath obtayned it. The remnaunte are blynded, ⁸ accordynge as it is wrytten. God hath geuen them the spirite of vnquyetnes: eyes that they should not se, and eares that they shoulde not heare euen vnto thys daye. ⁹ And Dauyd sayth: Let theyr table be made a snare to take them wyth all, and an occasyon to fall, and a reward vnto them. ¹⁰ Let theyr eyes be blynded that they se not: and euer bowe doune theyr backes.

¹² The night is passed, and the day is come ny. Let vs therfore caste awaye the dedes of darcknes, & let vs put on the Armoure of lyghte. ¹³ Let vs walke honestlye as it were in the daye lyght: not in eatynge and drynkynge: neyther in chamburynge and wantonnes, neyther in stryfe & enuiynge: ¹⁴ but put ye on the Lorde Iesus Christ. And make not prouysyon for the fleshe, to fulfyll the lustes of it.

¹⁴ But theyr myndes were blynded. For vntil thys daye remayneth the same couerynge vntaken awaye in the olde testament when they reade it, whiche in Christe is put awaye.

⁸ Ye were ones darckenes, but are nowe lyghte in the Lorde. Walke as chyldren of lyghte.

¹⁴ Wherfore he sayth: awake thou that slepest, and stand vp from death, and Christ shall geue the lyght. ¹⁵ Take hede therfore that ye walke circumspectlye: not as foles, but as wyse

⁵ Ye are all the chyldren of lyght and the chyldren of the daye. We are not of the nyghte neither of darckenes. ⁶ Therfore let vs not slepe as do other: but let vs watche & be sober. ⁷ For they that slepe, slepe in the nyght: and they that be droncken, are droncken in the nyght. ⁸ But let vs whiche are of the daye, be sober, armed wyth the breste plate of fayth and loue, and wyth hope of saluacyon as an helmet.

⁷ Wherfore as the holy ghoste sayeth, to daye yf ye shal heare his voice, ⁸ harden not youre hertes, after the rebellion in the day of temptacion in the wyldernes,

⁶ yf we saye that we haue felowshippe with him, and yet walke in darckenes, we lye, and do not the trueth, ⁷ but and yf we walke (in light) euen as he is in lighte, then haue we felowshyppe wyth hym, and the bloude of Iesus Christe his sonne clenseth vs from all sinne.

⁸ The olde commandement is the word, which ye heard from the beginninge. Againe a new commaundement I write vnto you, a thinge that is true in him, and also in you, for the darkenes is past, and the true light now shineth. ⁹ He that sayeth how that he is in the light, and yet hateth his brother, is in dackenes euen vntill this tyme. ¹⁰ He that loueth his brother, abideth in the lyghte, and there is none occasion of euill in him. ¹¹ He that hateth his brother, is in darckenes and walketh in darckenes, and can not tell whether he goeth, because that darckenes hath blinded his eyes.

¹ And therfore get the vp by tymes, for thy lyght cometh, and the glory of the Lorde shall ryse vp vpon the.

⁸ And the Lord commended the vniust steward because he had done wyslye. For the chyldren of thys worlde are in theyr kynde, wyser then the chyldren of lyght,

²¹ But he that doeth truth commeth to the light that hys dedes myght be knowen, how that they are wrought in God.

⁵⁹ Then toke they vp stones to caste at hym. But Iesus hyd him self and wente oute of the temple.

³⁹ Agayne they went about to take hym: but he escaped out of theyr handes, ⁴⁰ and went awaye agayne beyonde Iordan, into the place where Iohn before had baptysed, and there abode.

⁵⁴ Iesus therfore walked no more openlye amonge the Iewes, but went hys waye thence vnto a countrye nyghe to the wyldernes, into a cytye called Ephraim, & ther haunted wt his disciples.

⁴⁷ For so hath the Lorde commaunded vs: I haue made the a lyghte to the gentyls, that thou be the saluacion to the ende of the worlde. ⁴⁸ The gentyls hearde and were glad & glorifyed the worde of the Lorde, and beleued euen as many as were ordeyned vnto eternal lyfe.

⁵ Ye are all the chyldren of lyght and the chyldren of the daye. We are not of the nyghte neither of darckenes.

⁸ But let vs whiche are of the daye, be sober, armed wyth the breste plate of fayth and loue, and wyth hope of saluacyon as an helmet.

²⁰ Then began he to vpbrayd the cytyes, in which most of his miracles were done, because they mended not.

¹¹ He came amonge his (owne) & his owne receiued him not.

²⁴ If I had not done workes among them which none other man dyd, they had not had synne. But now haue they sene, & yet haue hated both me & my father:

²⁰ But Hezekiah the kynge and the prophete Isaiah sonne of Amoz prayed concernynge that thynge and cryed vp to heauen.

³ For they gat not the lande in possessyon thorowe their owne swearde, neyther was it their owne arme that helped them. But thy ryght hande, thyne arme and the lyght of thy countenaunce, because thou haddest a fauoure vnto them.

¹⁰ beholde the Lorde, euen the Allmyghtie shall come with power, and beare rule with hys arme. Beholde, he bryngeth his treasure with hym, & hys worckes go before hym. ¹¹ He shall fede his flock lyke an herdman. He shall gather the lambes together with his arme, and carie them in hys bosome, and shall kyndlye intreate those that beare yonge.

⁵ It is harde by, that my health & my ryghteousnesse shall go forthe, and the people shalbe ordered wyth myne arme. The Ilandes (that is the Gentyles) shall hope in me, & put theyr truste in myne arme.

⁹ Wake vp, wake vp, and be strong: O thou arme of the Lorde: wake vp, lyke as in tymes paste, euer and sence the worlde beganne.

¹ Bvt who geueth credence vnto oure preachynge? Or to whome is the arme of the Lorde knowne?

⁷ Hypocrites, well prophecied of you Esaias sayinge:

¹⁷ And Iesus aunswered and sayde to hym: happy arte thou Symon the sonne of Ionas, for fleshe & bloude hath not opened vnto the that, but my father which is in heauen.

³⁵ When they had crucifyed hym: they parted his garmentes, and did cast lottes, to fulfyll that was spoken by the prophete. They deuided my garmentes amonge them, and vpon my vesture dyd cast lottes.

¹² Whyle I was with them in the worlde, I kept them in thy name. Those that thou gauest me, haue I kept, and none of them is lost, but that loste chylde, that the scripture myght be fulfylled.

²⁴ And they sayde one to another. Let vs not deuyde it, but caste lottes, who shall haue it: That the scripture myght be fulfylled which sayeth. They parted my raymentes among them, and on my cote dyd they caste lottes. And the souldiours dyd such thynges in dede.

³⁶ These thynges were done, that the scripture shoulde be fulfylled: Ye shall not breake a bone of hym. ³⁷ And agayne another scripture sayeth: They shall loke on hym whome they pearled.

²⁸ And as he returned home againe sittinge in hys charet, he reade Esay the prophete. ²⁹ Then the spyrite sayed to Phylippe: God neare, and ioyne thy selfe to yonder charete. ³⁰ And Philippe ranne to him, and hearde hym reade the Prophete Esaias and saied: Vnderstandeste thou what thou readeste?

²⁷ The inhabiters of Ierusalem & theyr rulers, because they knowe him not, nor yet the voices of the prophetes which are reade euerye Saboth daye, they haue fulfylled them in condempnyng hym. ²⁸ And when they found no cause of death in hym, yet desyred they Pylate to kyll hym. ²⁹ And when they had fulfilled all that were written on hym, they toke hym doune from the tree, and put hym in a sepulchre.

¹⁶ But they haue not all obeyed to the Gospell. For Esayas sayeth: Lorde, who shal beleue oure saiynges?

²⁰ Esayas after that is bolde and sayth: I am founde of the, that soughte me not, & haue appeared to them that axed not after me.

²⁴ but vnto them, whiche are called both of Iewes and Grekes we preache Christe the power of God, and the wisdome of God.

¹⁴ But theyr myndes were blynded. For vntil thys daye remayneth the same couerynge vntaken awaye in the olde testament when they reade it, whiche in Christe is put awaye. ¹⁵ But euen vnto thys daye when Moyses is reade, the vayle hangeth before theyr hertes. ¹⁶ Neuerthelesse when they turne to the Lorde, the vayle shalbe taken awaye. ¹⁷ The Lorde no doubte is a spiryte. And where the spiryte of the Lorde is, there is libertye. ¹⁸ But we all beholde the glorye of the Lorde with hys face open, and chaunged vnto the same similitude, from glorye to glory, euen of the spirite of the Lorde.

³ Yf oure Gospell be yet hyd, it is hyd among them that are loste, ⁴ in whome the God of thys worlde hath blynded the myndes of them which beleue not, leste the lyght of the gloryous gospell of Christe which is the ymage of God shoulde shyne vnto them. ⁵ For we preache not oure selues, but Christ Iesus to be the Lorde, and oure selues youre seuauntes for Iesus sake. ⁶ For it is God that commaunded the lighte to shyne out of darknes, whiche hath shyned in oure hertes, for to geue the lyghte of the knoweledge of the glorye of God, in the face of Iesus Christe.

¹⁶ for to declare hys sonne by me) that I shoulde preache hym amonge the heathen immediatly I communed not of the matter with fleshe and bloude, ¹⁷ that the God of oure Lord Iesus Christ, and the father of glorye myghte geue vnto you the spyryte of wysdome, and open to you the knoweledge of hym selfe, ¹⁸ and lyghten the eyes of youre myndes that ye myght knowe what that hope is, where vnto he hath called you, and what the ryches of hys gloryous inheritaunce is vpon the saynctes, ¹⁹ and what is the excedynge greatnes of hys power to vs warde, whiche beleue accordynge to the workynge of that hys myghtye power, ²⁰ whiche he wrought in Christe, when he raysed hym from the dead, and set hym on hys ryght hande in heauenly thynges,

⁹ And so he sayde: go, and tell thys people: ye shall heare in dede, but ye shall not vnderstande, ye shall playnelye se, & not perceyue. ¹⁰ Harden the hart of thys people, stoppe theyr eares, and shutte theyr eyes, that they se not with theyr eyes, heare not wyth theyr eares, and vnderstande not wyth theyr hertes, and conuerte and be healed.

¹⁸ Yet men nether considre ner vnderstande, because their eyes are stopped, that they can not se: and their hertes, that they cannot perceyue. ¹⁹ They pondre not in their myndes, for they haue nether knowledge ner vnderstandyng, to thyncke thus: I haue brent one pece in the fyre: I haue baked bred with the coles there of, I haue rosted flesh with all, & eaten it: shall I now of the resydue make an abhomynacyon, & fall downe before a rotten pece of wodd? ²⁰ The kepyng of dust, and folishnesse of herte hath turned them asyde: so that none of them can haue a fre conscience to thyncke maye not I erre?

⁴⁴ Howe can ye beleue which receyue honoure one of another, and seke not the honoure that commeth of God onlye?

³⁸ But yf I do: then thoughe ye beleue not me, yet beleue the workes, that ye maye knowe and beleue, that the father is in me, and I in hym.

¹⁴ hauinge eyes full of aduoutrye, and that can not cease to synne, begilinge vnstable soules. Hertes they haue exercised with couetousues. They are cursed children,

²¹ And the Lorde sayd vnto Moyses: when thou art come in to Egypte ogayne, see that thou do al the wonders before Pharao which I haue put in thy hand: but I wyl harden his herte, so that he shal not lette the people go.

³ But I wyl harden Pharaos hert, that I may multiply my miracles & my wunders in the land of Egypt.

¹³ & yet for all that Pharaos hert was hardened, so that he herkened not vnto them, euen as the Lord had sayd.

⁴ And I wyl harden his harte, that he shall folow after them, that I may get me honour vpon Pharao & vpon all his hoste, that the Egypcyans may knowe that I am the Lorde. And they dyd euen so.

⁸ For the Lord hardened the harte of Pharao kynge of Egypt, that he folowed after the chyldren of Israel whyche for al that went oute thorow and hye hande

¹⁷ And beholde I wyl harden the hertes of the Egyptians that they maye folowe you. And I wyll gett me honoure vpon Pharao and vpon all hys hoste, vpon his charettes and vpon his horsse men.

⁴ & yet the Lord hath not geuen you an herte to perceyue, nor eyes to se, nor eares to heere vnto thys daye.

²⁰ for it came of the Lorde to harden their hartes, that they shoulde come agaynst Israel in battell, euen to destroye them vtterlye, that they shoulde haue no mercy, but to bringe them to noughte. As the Lorde commaunded Moses.

²⁰ And the Lorde sayd: who shal deceiue Ahab that he maye go and be slaine at Ramoth in Galaad, and one sayde on this maner and another on that.

² Haue mercye vpon me (O Lorde) for I am weake: O Lorde heale me for all my bones are vexed.

⁴ I sayd: Lord be mercifull vnto me, heale my soule, for I haue synned agaynst the.

¹⁰ Whych smote dyuerse nacyons, and slew myghty Kynges. ¹¹ Sehon Kynge of the Amorytes, Og the Kynge of Basan, and all the Kyngdomes of Canaan. ¹² And gaue their land for an heritage, for an heritage vnto Israel his people. ¹³ Thy name. O Lorde, endureth for euer, so doeth thy memoryall, O Lorde, from one generacyon to another. ¹⁴ For the Lorde wil auenge his people, and be gracyous vnto hys seruauntes. ¹⁵ As for the ymages of the Heathen, they are but siluer and golde, the worcke of mens handes. ¹⁶ They haue mouthes, and speake not: eyes haue they, but they se not. ¹⁷ They haue eares, and yet they heare not, neyther is ther any breath in their mouthes. ¹⁸ They that make them, are lyke vnto them, and so are all they that put their trust in them.

³ He healeth the contryte in herte, and byndeth vp their woundes.

¹⁰ Harden the hart of thys people, stoppe theyr eares, and shutte theyr eyes, that they se not with theyr eyes, heare not wyth theyr eares, and vnderstande not wyth theyr hertes, and conuerte and be healed.

¹¹ Lorde, they wyll not se thyne hye hande, but they shall se it, and be confounded: when thou shalte deuoure them with the wrathe of the people, & wyth the fyre of thyue enemyes.

¹⁰ For the Lorde shall geue you an harde slepynge spryte, and holde doune youre eyes: namelye youre Prophetes and heades which shuld se, them shall he couer.

¹⁹ But who is blinder, then my seruaunt? Or so deaf, as my messaungers, whom I sent vnto them? For who is so blinde as my people, & they that haue the rule of them? ²⁰ They are lyke, as yf thou vnderstodest moch, & keptest nothyng: or yf one herde well, but were not obedient.

⁵ where as he (notwithstanding) shal be wounded for oure offences, & smytten for oure wickednes. For the payne of oure punyshmente shalbe sayde vpon hym, and with hys strypes shall we be healed.

¹⁸ But yf I may se his right way againe, I make hym whole, I lede him and restore him vnto them, whome he maketh ioyfull, and that were sorye for him. ¹⁹ I make the frutes of thankesgeuynge. I geue peace vnto them that are farre of, and to them that are nye. saye I the Lord, that make hym whole.

²² O ye shrinkynge chyldren, turne agayne, (sayinge: lo, we are thyne, for thou arte the Lorde oure God:) And so shall I heale your bacturnynges.

²¹ Heare thys (thou folyshe and vndiscrete people) ye haue eyes, but ye se not: eares haue ye, but ye heare not.

² Thou sonne of man, thou dwellest in the myddest of a frowarde housholde: whiche haue eyes to se, and yet se not: eares haue they to hear, & yet heare thei not, for they are an obstinate housholde.

⁹ And yf that Prophete be deceyued, when he telleth hym a worde: then I the Lorde my selfe haue dysceyued that Prophete, & wyl stretche forth myne hande vpon hym, to rote hym out of my people of Israel,

¹ In their aduersite they shal seke me, and said: come, let vs turne againe to the lord: for he hathe smyten vs, & he shall heale vs:

⁴ O (yf they wolde do thys) I shulde heale theyr sores: yea wyth al my herte wolde I loue them: so that my wrath shuld cleane be turned awaye from them.

¹³ Therfore speake I to them in similitudes: for though they se, they se not: and hearyng they heare not: neyther vnderstand. ¹⁴ And in them is fulfilled the Prophesye of Esayas, whych prophesie sayth: with the eares ye shal heare, and shal not vnderstande, and with the eyes ye shal se, and shall not perceyue. ¹⁵ For this people hertes are waxed grosse, and their eares were dull of hearynge, and their eyes haue they closed, lest they should se with their eyes, and heare with their eares, and shoulde vnderstand with their hertes, & should tourne that I myght heale them.

¹⁴ Let them alone, thei be the blynde leaders of the blynd. If the blynd leede the blynde, both shall fall into the dytche.

¹² that when they se, they shall se, and not dyscerne, and when they heare, they shal heare, and not vnderstand leste at any tyme they shoulde tourne: & theyr synnes shoulde be forgeuen them,

⁵² For they remembred not of the loues, because their hertes were blynded.

¹⁷ And when Iesus knew that, he sayd vnto them: why take ye thought because ye haue no bread perceyue ye not yet, neyther vnderstande? Haue ye your hertes yet blynded? ¹⁸ Haue ye eyes and se not? and haue ye eares and heare not? Do ye not remember?

¹⁸ The spyryte of the Lorde vpon me, because he hath anointed me: to preache the gospell to the poore he hath sent me, and to heale the broken herted, to preache deliueraunce to the captiue, and syght to the blynde, and frely to set at lyberte them that are brused,

¹⁰ And he sayed vnto you is it geuen to knowe the secretes of the kingdome of God: but to other in symylytudes, that when they se, they shoulde not vnderstande.

³⁹ Iesus sayed: I am come vnto iudgement into this worlde, that they which se not myght se, and they which se, myght be made blynd.

¹⁹ Repent ye therfore and turne, that youre synnes maye be done awaye. When the tyme of refreshing commeth, which we shall haue of the presence of the Lorde,

³ And after they were brought on theyr waye by the congregacyon, they passed ouer Phenices and Samaria declarynge the conuersyon of the Gentyls, and they brought great ioye vnto all the brethren.

²⁶ and saye: wyth youre eares shall ye heare, & shall not vnderstande: and wyth youre eies shal ye se and shall not perceiue.

¹⁸ So hath he mercie on whom he wyll, and whom he wyll, he maketh harde herted.

⁷ What then? Israell hath not obtayned that, that he soughte. No but the electyon hath obtayned it. The remnaunte are blynded, ⁸ accordynge as it is wrytten. God hath geuen them the spirite of vnquyetnes: eyes that they should not se, and eares that they shoulde not heare euen vnto thys daye. ⁹ And Dauyd sayth: Let theyr table be made a snare to take them wyth all, and an occasyon to fall, and a reward vnto them. ¹⁰ Let theyr eyes be blynded that they se not: and euer bowe doune theyr backes. ¹¹ I saye then: Haue they therfore stombled, that they shoulde but falle onelye? God forbyd: but thorowe theyr fall is saluacyon happened vnto the gentyles for to prouoke them withall.

¹⁹ Brethren yf anye of you erre from the trueth and an other conuerte hym, ²⁰ let the same know that he which conuerted the synner from goyng astraye out of hys waye, shall saue a soule from death, and shall hyde the multytude of synnes.

¹⁸ And he sayde: I beseche the, shewe me thy glorye: ¹⁹ And he sayd: I wyl make al my good god before the, and I wyl be called in thys name Iehouah before the, & wil shew mercy to whom I shewe mercy, and wyll haue compassion on whom I haue compassion. ²⁰ And he sayed furthermore, thou maiste not see my for there shall no man se me and lyue. ²¹ And the Lorde sayed, beholde, there is a place by me, & thou shalt stand vpon a rocke, ²² and whyle my glory goeth forth I wyll put the in a clyfte of the rocke, & wyll put myne hand vpon the whyle I passe by. ²³ And then I wyl take away myne hande, and thou shalte se my backe partes: but my face shall not be seene.

¹ In the same yeare the kynge Oziah dyed, I sawe the Lorde sytting vpon an high & gloryous seate, and hys trayne fylled the palace. ² From aboue flakred the Seraphins, whereof euery one had sixe wynges. With twayne eche couered his face, with twayne his fete, & with twayne dyd he flye. ³ They cryed also eche one to other on this maner: holy holy holy, is the Lord of hostes. The whole world is ful of his glory. ⁴ Yea the gestes and dorecheckes moued at their crieng, & the house was ful of smoke. ⁵ Then I sayde: O wo is me. For I was astonished: that I (which am a man of vncleane lippes and dwell amonge people that hath vncleane lyppes also) shulde se the kynge and the Lorde of hostes wyth myne eyes.

²⁷ And he began at Moyses, and at all the Prophetes, & interpreted vnto them in all scryptures, which were written of hym.

¹⁴ And the worde was made flesh & dwelt amonge vs, and we sawe the glorye of it, as the glory of the onlye begotten sonne of the father, which worde was ful of grace & verite.

¹⁸ No man hath sene God at anye tyme. The onlye begotten sonne which is in the bosome of the father, he hath declared hym.

³⁹ Searche the sciptures, for in them ye thinke ye haue eternall lyfe: and they are they which testifye of me.

⁹ Iesus sayd vnto hym. Haue I bene so longe tyme with you, and yet haste thou not knowen me? Philip, he that hath sene me, hath sene the father. And how sayest thou then: shew vs the father?

⁴³ To hym geue all the Prophetes witnes, that thorowe hys name, all that beleue in hym, shall receyue remission of sinnes.

⁶ For it is God that commaunded the lighte to shyne out of darknes, whiche hath shyned in oure hertes, for to geue the lyghte of the knoweledge of the glorye of God, in the face of Iesus Christe.

³ Whyche sonne beyng the bryghtnes of hys glorye, and verye Image of his substaunce, bearinge vp al thinges wyth the worde of hys power, hath in his owne persone pourged our synnes, and is sitting on the right hand of the maiestie on hygh,

¹¹ searchynge when or at what tyme of the spyryte of Christe whiche was in them, shoulde signifye, whiche spyryte testyfyed before, the passyons that shoulde come vnto Christe, and the glorye that shoulde folowe after:

¹⁰ And I fell at his feete, to worshippe him. And he sayed vnto me, se thou do it not. For I am thy felowe seruaunt, & one of thy brethren, & of them that haue the testimony of Iesus. Worshippe God. For the testimony of Iesus is the spirit of prophesye.

²⁵ He that feareth men, shall haue a fall: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lorde shall come to honoure.

⁷ Therfore herken vnto me, ye that haue pleasure in rightuousnes, thou people that bearest my lawe in thyne herte. Feare not the curse of men, be not afrayde of theyr blasphemies & reuylynges:

¹¹ For when wilt thou be abashed or fear seinge: thou hast broken thy promise, and remembrest not me, neyther hast me in thyne herte? Thinkest thou, that I also will holde my peace (as a fore tyme) that thou fearest me not?

⁵ Heare the worde of God all ye, that feare the thynge whyche he speaketh. Your brethren that hate you, and cast you out for my names sake, saye: Let the Lorde magnyfye him selfe, that we may see youre gladnesse: and yet they shalbe confounded.

³² Whosoeuer therfore shall acknowlege me before men, hym will I acknowledge also before my father which is in heauen.

⁶⁹ Peter sate without in the palayce. And a damsell came to him saying: Thou also wast with Iesus of Galile: ⁷⁰ but he denyed before them al sayinge: I wote not what thou sayst. ⁷¹ When he was gone oute into the poorche, another wenche sawe hym, and sayde vnto them that were there. Thys felowe was also with Iesus of Nazareth, ⁷² and agayne he denyed with an oth that he knew not the man. ⁷³ And after a whyle came vnto hym they that stode by & sayde vnto Peter: surely thou art euen one of them, for thy speache bewrayeth the. ⁷⁴ Then beganne he to corse and to sweare that he knew not the man. And immediatly the cocke crewe. ⁷⁵ And Peter remembred the wordes of Iesu whiche sayed vnto hym: before the cocke crowe, thou shalt deny me thryse. And went out at the dores and wept bitterlye.

²² Blessed are ye when men hate you, and thruste you out of their companye, and rayle, & abhorre youre name as an euill thinge, for the sonne of mans sake.

⁸ I saye vnto you whosoeuer confesseth me before men, euen hym shall the sonne of man confesse also before the Angels of God.

² The same came to Iesus by nyghte & sayed vnto him: Rabbi, we knowe that thou art a teacher whiche art come from God. For no man coulde do such miracles as thou doest, except God were wt him.

¹³ How beit no man spake openlye of him, for feare of the Iewes.

⁴⁸ Doth anye of the rulers or the Phariseis beleue on hym? ⁴⁹ But the commune people whiche know not the lawe, are cursed. ⁵⁰ Nicodemus sayed vnto them. He that came to Iesus by night, and was one of them. ⁵¹ Doeth our lawe iudge anye man, before it heare him and knowe what he hath done?

²² Such wordes spake his father and mother, because they feared the Iewes. For the Iewes had conspyred al ready, that yf any man dyd confesse that he was Christe, he shoulde be excommunicate oute of the synagoge,

³⁴ They answered, and sayde vnto hym: thou arte all together borne in synne, and doest thou teach vs? And they cast hym oute.

² They shall excommunicate you: ye the tyme shall come, that whosoeuer kylleth you, wil thinke that he doeth god seruice.

³⁸ After that Ioseph of Arimathia (whiche was a disciple of Iesus, but secretely for feare of the Iewes) besought Pylate that he myght take doune the bodye of Iesus. And Pylate gaue him licence.

⁴¹ And they departed from the counsel, reioysinge that they were counted worthy, to suffer rebuke for his name.

¹⁰ For the beliefe of the herte iustifyeth: and to knoweledge with the mouth, maketh a man safe.

¹² Dearely beloued, be not troubled in hys heate, whiche nowe is come amonge you to trye you as though some straunge thing had happened vnto you: ¹³ but reioice in as much as ye are partakers of Christes passions, that when his glory appereth, ye maye be mery and glad. ¹⁴ If ye be railed vpon for the name of Christ, happie are ye. For the spyryte of glorye, and the spyryte of Gad resteth vpon you. On theyr parte he is euyll spoken of, but on your parte he is glorified. ¹⁵ Se that none of you suffer as a murtherer or as a thefe, or an euil doar, or as a busibody in other mens matters. ¹⁶ Yf any man suffer as a Christen man, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorifie God on this behalfe.

² Hereby shall ye knowe the spyryte of God. Euerye spyrite that confesseth that Iesus Christe is come in the fleshe, is of God.

¹⁵ Whosoeuer confesseth, that Iesus is the sonne of God, in him dwelleth God and he in God.

²⁹ All such as be fat vpon earth, shall eate also and worshippe. All they that lye in the dust, and lyue so hardly, shall fall doune before hym.

² Whensoeuer therfore thou geuest thime almes, thou shalt not make a trompet to be blowen before the, as the hypocrytes do in the synagoges and in the stretes, for to be praised of men. Verely I saye vnto you, they haue their rewarde.

⁵ All their workes thei do for to be sene of men. They set abroade theyr philateries, & make large borders on theyr garmentes, ⁶ and loue to sit vppermoste at feastes, and to haue the chiefe seates in the Synagoges, ⁷ and gretynges in the markettes, and too be called of men Rabbi.

¹⁵ And he sayde vnto them: Ye are they whiche iustifye your selues before men: but God knoweth your hertes. For that which is highly estemed amonge men, is abhominable in the syght of God.

¹⁷ And he sayde vnto hym. Well good seruaunte, because thou waste faythful in a very lytell thynge, take thou authoritye ouer ten cities.

⁴¹ I receyue not prayse of men.

⁵⁴ Iesus answered. Yf I honoure my selfe, myne honoure is nothynge worthe. It is my father, that honoureth me, which you saye is youre God,

²⁶ If any man minister vnto me, let hym folowe me, and where I am, there shal also my minister be. And yf any man minister vnto me, hym wyll my father honoure.

⁷ that is to say, prayse, honoure and immortalytye, to them whyche continue in good doynge and seke eternall lyfe.

⁵ Therfore iudge nothinge before the tyme vntill the Lorde come, who wyll lyghten thinges, that are hyd in darckenes, and open the counsels of the hertes. And then shall euery man haue praise of God.

¹⁸ For he that prayseth hym self, is not allowed: but he whom the Lorde prayseth.

⁶ neyther sought we prayse of men neyther of you, nor yet of anye other, when we mighte haue bene chargeable, as the Apostles of Christe,

⁷ that youre faythe ones tryed beynge muche more precyous, then golde that perysheth (though it be tryed with fyre) myghte be founde vnto laude, glory, and honoure, at the apearynge of Iesus Christ ⁸ whome ye haue not sene, and yet loue hym, in whome euen nowe, thoughe ye se hym not, yet do you beleue: and reioyce with ioye vnspeakeable and gloryous:

⁴ but let the hyd man of the harte be vncorrupte with a meke and a quyete spyryte, whiche spyryte is before God a thynge muche set by.

²⁰ Wisdome crieth without, & putteth forth her voyce in the stretes.

¹ Doth not wysdome crye? doeth not vnderstanding put forth her voyce?

¹ Come to the waters all ye, that be thurstye, & ye that haue no money. Come, bye, that ye maye haue to eate. Come bye wine & mylcke, without any money or money worth. ² Wherfore do ye laye oute youre moneye, for the thing that fedeth not, and spende youre laboure aboute the thynge that satisfyed you not. But herken rather vnto me, & ye shall eate of the beste, & youre soule shall haue her pleasure in plentuousnes. ³ Encline youre eares, & come vnto me, take hede, & your soule shall lyue. For I wyll make an euerlastynge couenaunt wyth you, euen the sure mercyes of Dauid.

⁴⁰ He that receyueth you, receyueth me: & he that receyueth me, receiueth him that sent me,

³⁷ Whosoeuer receyueth any such a chyld in my name receyueth me. And whosoeuer receyueth me, receyueth not me, but him that sent me.

²⁴ Verely, verely I say vnto you he that heareth my wordes, and beleueth on him that sent me, hath euerlasting lyfe, & shal not come into damnacion: but is escaped from death vnto lyfe.

²⁸ Then cried Iesus in the temple as he taught saiyng: ye knowe me, and whence I am ye knowe. And yet I am not come of my selfe, but he that sent me is true, whom ye knowe not.

⁴³ And when he thus had spoken: he cryed wt a loude voyce: Lazarus come forth.

²⁰ Verelye verelye I saye vnto you. He that receyueth whomesoeuer I sende, receyueth me. And he that receyueth me, receyueth him that sent me.

²¹ whiche by hys meanes haue beleued on God that raysed hym from death, & gloryfyed hym, that youre faythe and hope myght be in God.

⁴¹ Such thynges said Esayas when he sawe hys glorye, and spake of hym.

⁹ Iesus sayd vnto hym. Haue I bene so longe tyme with you, and yet haste thou not knowen me? Philip, he that hath sene me, hath sene the father. And how sayest thou then: shew vs the father? ¹⁰ Beleuest thou not that I am in the father & the father in me? The wordes that I speake vnto you. I speake not of my selfe: but the father that dwelleth in me, is he that doeth the workes.

¹⁵ whyche is the ymage of the inuisible God, fyrste begotten of creatures.

²⁰ We know, that the sonne of God is come, & hath geuen vs a minde to know him which is true, & we are in him, that is true thorowe his sonne Iesus Christ. This same is verye God, and eternal lyfe.

⁹ For by the is the wel of lyfe, and in thy lyght, shall we se lyght.

¹ Be of good chere my people, be of good chere (sayeth youre God)

⁷ That thou mayest open the eyes of the blynde, let out the prisoners, & them that syt in darknesse, out of the dongeon house.

¹⁵ I wyll make waste both mountayne & hyll, & drye vp euery grene thynge that groweth theron. I wyll drye vp the floudes of water, and drincke vp the ryuers.

² But vnto you that feare my name, shall the Sonne of ryghteousnesse aryse, and healthe shalbe vnder his winges: ye shal go forth, & multipply as the fat calues.

¹⁶ the people which sate in darkenes, sawe great light, & to them which sate in the regyon and shadowe of death, light is begonne to shine.

⁷⁶ And thou chylde shalt be called the prophete of the hiest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lorde to prepare his wayes. ⁷⁷ And to geue knowledge of saluacion vnto his people for the remissyon of synnes. ⁷⁸ Through the tender mercye of our God, wherby the daye sprynge from on hye hath vysyted vs. ⁷⁹ To geue lyght to them that sate in darcknes & in shadowe of death, and to guyde oure fete into the waye of peace.

³² A lyght to lighten the gentils and the glorye of thy people Israel.

⁴ In it was lyfe, and the lyfe was the lyght of men, ⁵ & the lyght shyneth in the darknes, but the darknes comprehended it not.

⁹ That was a true lyght, which lyghted all men that come into the worlde.

¹⁹ And this is the condempnacion, that light is come into the worlde, and the men loued darknes more then lyght, because their dedes were euyll.

⁵ As longe as I am in the worlde, I am the lyght of the worlde.

³⁵ Then Iesus sayed vnto them: yet a lyttell whyle is the lyght with you. Walke, whyle ye haue lyght, lest the darcknes come on you. He that walketh in the darcke, woteth not whether he goeth. ³⁶ Whyle ye haue lyghte, beleue on the lyght, that ye maye be the chyldren of light. These thynges spake Iesus, and departed, and hyd hym selfe from them.

¹⁴ Wherfore he sayth: awake thou that slepest, and stand vp from death, and Christ shall geue the lyght.

¹ That whyche was from the begynninge, whyche we haue hearde, whyche we haue sene with oure eyes, which we haue loked vpon and our handes haue handeled, of the word of the lyfe. ² For the life appeared, and we haue sene, and beare wytnes, and shewe vnto you that eternall lyfe, whyche was wyth the father, and appeared to vs. ³ That whyche we haue sene and hearde declare we vnto you, that ye maye haue felowshyp wyth vs, and that our felowshype may be wyth the father and hys sonne Iesus Christ.

⁸ The olde commandement is the word, which ye heard from the beginninge. Againe a new commaundement I write vnto you, a thinge that is true in him, and also in you, for the darkenes is past, and the true light now shineth. ⁹ He that sayeth how that he is in the light, and yet hateth his brother, is in dackenes euen vntill this tyme.

¹⁰ Se that ye not dispise not one of these litelones. For I saye vnto you, that in heauen their aungels alwaies behold the face of my father which is in heauen.

²⁸ euen as the sonne of man came not to be minnistred vnto, but to minister, and to geue his life for the redempcion of many.

⁵⁶ The sonne of man is not come to destroye mennes lyues, but to saue them. And they wente to another toune.

¹⁰ For the sonne of man is come to seke, and to saue that which was loste.

¹⁷ For God sent not his sonne into the world, to condempne the worlde: but that the world through him, might be saued.

⁴⁵ Do not thinke that I wyll accuse you to my father. There is one that accuseth you euen Moyses in whom ye truste.

¹⁵ Ye iudge after the flesh. I iudge no man. ¹⁶ Thoughe I iudge, yet is my iudgement true. For I am not alone: but I and the father that sent me.

²⁶ I haue manye thynges to saye, and to iudge of you: but he that sent me is true. And I speake in the worlde, those thinges which I haue hearde of hym.

⁴⁸ He that refuseth me, and receiueth not my wordes, hath one that iudgeth hym. The wordes that I haue spoken, they shall iudge hym in the laste day.

¹⁵ Thys is a true saiynge and by all meanes worthy to be receyued, that Christ Iesus came into the worlde to saue synners, of whom I am chiefe. ¹⁶ Not wythstandyng for this cause was mercye geuen vnto me that Iesus christ shoulde fyrste shewe on me all longe pacience vnto the ensample of them whiche shal in tyme to come beleue on hym vnto eternall lyfe.

¹⁵ And suppose that the longe suffering of the Lord is saluacion, euen as oure dearlye beloued brother Paule accordinge to the wysdome geuen to hym wrote vnto you,

¹⁴ And we haue sene and do testifye, that the father sent the sonne, whyche is the sauyour of the world.

¹⁸ I wyl rayse them vp a prophet from among their brethren lyke vnto the & wyll put my wordes into his mouth & he shal speake vnto them al that I shal commaunde him. ¹⁹ And whosoeuer will not herken vnto the wordes whych he shall speake in my name, I wil requyre it of hym.

⁷ And the Lord sayd vnto Samuel: heare the voyce of the people in all that they say vnto the. For they haue not cast the awaye, but me: that I shulde not raygne ouer them.

¹⁹ And ye haue this day cast awaye youre God that holpe you oute of al youre aduersities & trybulacyons. And ye haue sayde vnto him, make a kyng ouer vs. Now therfore stande before the Lord by your trybes & youre thousandes.

⁴² Iesus sayde vnto them: dyd ye neuer reade in the scriptures. The stone which the buylders refused, the same is set in the principall parte of the corner: thys was the Lordes doynge, and it is meruelous in oure eyes.

³¹ And he began to teache them: howe that the sonne of man must suffer many thinges, and should be reproued of the elders and of the priestes and scribes, and be killed, and after thre dayes ryse agayne.

¹⁰ Haue ye not read thys scrypture? The stone which the buylders dyd refuse, is made the chiefe stone in the corner:

¹⁶ he that beleueth & is baptised, shall be saued. But he that beleueth not, shalbe damned.

³⁰ But the Phariseis and scribes despised the counsel of God againste them selues, and were not baptysed of him.

²² saiynge: that the sonne of man muste suffer manye thinges, and be reproued of the elders, and of the hye pryestes and scrybes and be slayne, & the thirde daye ryse agayne.

²⁶ For whosoeuer is ashamed of me, and of my saiynges: of hym shall the sonne of man be ashamed, when he cometh in his owne glory, & the glory of his father, and of the holye aungels.

¹⁶ He that heareth you, heareth me, and he that dispyseth you, despyseth me: & he that despyseth me, despiseth hym that sente me.

²⁵ But fyrste muste he suffer manye thynges, and be refused of thys nacyon.

¹⁷ And he behelde them, and sayde: what meaneth this then that is wryten. The stone that the buylders refused, the same is made the head corner stone?

¹⁷ For God sent not his sonne into the world, to condempne the worlde: but that the world through him, might be saued. ¹⁸ He that beleueth on him, shal not be condempned. But he that beleueth not is condempned allready, because he beleueth not in the name of the onlye sonne of God. ¹⁹ And this is the condempnacion, that light is come into the worlde, and the men loued darknes more then lyght, because their dedes were euyll. ²⁰ For euerye man that euyll doth, hateth the light: nether commeth to the lyghte: lest his dedes shoulde be reproued.

²⁴ Martha sayed vnto him: I knowe that he shall ryse agayne in the resurreccyon at the laste daye.

²³ For the tyme wyll come, that euerye soule, whyche shal not heare that same prophete, shal be destroyed from amonge the people.

¹⁶ at the daye when God shall iudge the secretes of men by Iesus Christ accordynge to my Gospell.

¹⁵ For we are vnto God the swete sauoure of Christe, bothe amonge them that are saued, and also among them whiche peryshe. ¹⁶ To the one part are we the sauoure of death vnto death. And vnto the other parte are we the lauoure of lyfe vnto lyfe. And who is mete vnto these thynges?

³ Yf oure Gospell be yet hyd, it is hyd among them that are loste,

⁸ in flammynge fyre, rendrynge vengeaunce vnto them that knowe not God, and to them that obeye not vnto the Gospel of our Lorde Iesus Christ,

³ howe shal we escape, yf we despise so great saluacyon, whyche at the fyrst began to be preached of the Lorde hym selfe, and afterward was confirmed to vswarde, by them that hearde it,

²⁷ And as it is appoynted vnto men that they shall ones dye, and then commeth the iudgemente, ²⁸ euen so Christ was ones offered to take away the synnes of many, and vnto them that loke for hym, shall he appere agayne wythoute synne vnto saluacyon.

²⁹ Of howe muche sorer punyshement suppose ye shal he be counted worthy, whych treadeth vnder fote the sonne of God: and counted the bloud of the testament as an vnholy thynge wherwyth he was sanctyfyed, and doth dishonour to the spyryte of grace. ³⁰ For we knowe hym that hath sayde: vengeaunce belongeth vnto me. I wyll recompence sayth the lorde. And agayne: the lord shall iudge hys people. ³¹ It is a fearfull thynge to falle into the handes of the lyuynge God.

²⁵ Se that ye despyse not hym, that speaketh. For yf they escaped not whiche refused hym, that spake on earth: muche more shall we not escape, yf we turne awaye from hym that speaketh from heauen:

¹⁸ I wyl rayse them vp a prophet from among their brethren lyke vnto the & wyll put my wordes into his mouth & he shal speake vnto them al that I shal commaunde him.

¹¹ Verely, verely, I say vnto the we speake that we know and testify that we haue sene, & ye receiue not our witnes.

³² and what he hath sene and hearde: that he testifyeth: but no man receiueth his testimony.

³⁰ I can of myne owne selfe do nothinge at all. As I heare. I iudge: and my iudgement is iust, because I seke not mine owne wyll but the wyll of my father which hath sent me.

³⁸ For I came doune from heauen: not to do myne owne wyll, but his wyll which hath sent me. ³⁹ And this is the fathers wyll which hath sent me, that of all whiche hath geuen me, I shoulde loose nothinge: but shoulde rayse it vp agayne at the laste daye. ⁴⁰ And this is the wyll of him that sent me: that euerye man which seeth the sonne and beleueth on him haue euerlasting lyfe. And I wyll rayse him vp at the laste daye.

⁴² Iesus sayde vnto them: yf God were youre father, then woulde ye loue me. For I proceaded forth, and come from God. Neyther came I of my selfe, but he sente me.

¹⁰ Beleuest thou not that I am in the father & the father in me? The wordes that I speake vnto you. I speake not of my selfe: but the father that dwelleth in me, is he that doeth the workes.

³¹ But that the worlde maye knowe that I loue the father: therfore as the father gaue me commaundement euen so do I. Ryse, let vs go hence.

¹⁵ Henceforth call I you not seruauntes: for the seruaunt knoweth not what hys lorde doth. But you haue I called frendes, for all thynges that I haue heard of my father, I haue opened vnto you.

⁸ For I haue geuen vnto them the wordes whiche thou gauest me, and they haue receyued them and knowe surely that I came out from the, and do beleue that thou dyddest sende me.

¹ The Reuelacyon of Iesus Christe which God gaue vnto hym, for to shew vnto his seruauntes thinges whiche muste shortely come to passe. And he sent and shewed by hys angel vnto hys seruaunt Iohn

⁶³ It is the spirite that quickeneth, the flesh proffetteth nothing. The wordes that I speake vnto you, are spirite and lyfe.

⁶⁸ Then Symon Peter aunswered: Maister to whom shall we go? Thou hast the wordes of eternall lyfe,

³ This is lyfe eternall that they myghte knowe, the that onely very God, and whome thou haste sente Iesus Christ.

³¹ These are written that ye myght beleue, that Iesus is Christe the sonne of God, and that in beleuinge ye might haue lyfe thorow hys name.

¹⁶ Not wythstandyng for this cause was mercye geuen vnto me that Iesus christ shoulde fyrste shewe on me all longe pacience vnto the ensample of them whiche shal in tyme to come beleue on hym vnto eternall lyfe.

²⁵ And this is the promes, that he hath promysed vs euen eternal lyfe.

²³ And this is his commaundement, that we beleue on the name of his sonne Iesus Christ and loue one another, as he gaue commaundemente. ²⁴ And he that kepeth hys commaundementes, dwelleth in hym and he in him, & therby we know that there abydeth in vs of the spyryte, which he gaue vs.

¹¹ And thys is that recorde, howe that God hath geuen vnto vs eternal lyfe, and this lyfe is in his sonne. ¹² He that hath the sonne, hath lyfe: and he that hath not the sonne of God, hath not lyfe. ¹³ These thinges haue I wryten vnto you, that beleue on the name of the sonne of God, that ye maye know, how that ye haue eternal lyfe, and that ye may beleue on the name of the sonne of God.
