³¹ And then his brethren and all the house of his father came doune and toke him vp, and brought hym & buried him betwene Zarah and Esthaol, in the burying place of Manoah his father. And he iudged Israell twenty yere.

And the people lamented, because the Lorde had slayne so greate a slaughter of them. ²⁰ And the men of Bethsames sayde: who is able to stand before the Lord so holy a God, & to whom shall he go from vs. ²¹ And they sent messengers to the enhabiters of Kariath Iarim, sayinge: The Philistines haue brought home agayne the arcke of the Lorde: come doune and fet it vp to you.

⁵ Then sayd Samuel: gather al Israel to Mazphah, that I maye pray for you vnto the Lorde. ⁶ And they gathered together to Mazphah, & drue water & poured it out before the Lorde, & fasted the same daye, & sayde there: we haue synned agaynst the Lord. And Samuel iudged the causes of the chyldren of Israel in Mazphah.

¹⁴ Therto the cityes which the Philistines had taken from Israel, came again to Israel, euen from Acaron to Geth, with the coastes of the same, which Israel plucked out of the handes of the Philistines For there was peace betwene Israell & the Amorites.

And the Lorde answered hym and sayde: vp and go to Keilah, for I will delyuer the Philistines into thyne handes. ⁵ And so Dauid and hys men went to Keilah and fought wyth the Philistines, and draue awaye their cattel and slue a great slaughter of them. And so Dauid saued the enhabyters of Keilah. ⁶ And it chaunced when Abiathar the sonne of Ahimelech fled to Dauid to Keilah, that he brought an Ephod in hys hande. ⁷ And it was tolde Saul, that Dauid was come to Keilah. Then sayde Saul: God hath delyuered hym into my hand. For he is shut in, that he is come into a towne wyth gates & barres. ⁸ And Saul called al the people to warre, for to go to Keilah, to besege Dauid and his men. ⁹ But Dauid had knoweledge that Saul ymagened myschefe agaynst hym, and sayd therefore to Abiathar the pryest: Bring the Ephod. ¹⁰ Then sayde Dauid, O lord God of Israel, thy seruaunt heareth that Saul is about to come to Keilah to destroye the cytye for my sake: ¹¹ wyll the men of Keilah delyuer me into hys hand? or wyll Saul come as thy seruaunt heareth saye? Lorde God of Israell tel thy seruaunt. And Saul sought hym all hys lyfe, but God delyuered hym not into hys hande.

Therfore thou shalt not come doune from the bed on which thou art gone vp, but shalt surelye dye.

⁷ And he slue of the Edomites in the salt valeye ten thousande, and toke the toune Sela wt strength of battell, and called the name of it Iektheel euer after.

¹⁴ Whervpon Hezekiah kyng of Iuda sent to the kyng of Assyria to Lachis saying: I haue offended. But depart from me, and what thou putteste on me that wyll I beare. And the kynge of Assyria appoynted vnto Hezekiah kynge of Iuda thre hundred talentes of syluer, and thyrtye talentes of golde.

¹⁷ And the kinge of Assyrya sent Tarthan & Rabsaris & Rabsakeh from Lachis to kynge Hezekiah with a greate Host to Ierusalem. And they went vp & came to Ierusalem, & wente & stode by the conduyte of the vppermoste pole which is in the waye to the fullers felde,

⁸ And Rabsakeh went backe agayne and founde the kynge of Assiria fightyng agaynst Lobnah: for he had hearde, how thac he was departed from Lachis.

Neuerthelater Dauid wanne the castel of Sion, which is called the cytye of Dauid. ⁶ Then sayde Dauid: whosoeuer smyte the Iebusites fyrst, shalbe the pryncypall captayne & a Lord. And Ioab the sonne of Zaruiah went fyrst vp, and was therfore the chefe captayne. ⁷ And because Dauid dwelt in the castel, therfore it was called the cytye of Dauid. ⁸ And he built the cyty on euery syde euen from Milo roundeabout. But Ioab repared the reste of the cytye.

¹ And these folowenge came to Dauid to Zikelag, whyle he yet kept hym selfe close for feare of Saul the sonne of Cis: and they were of the men that socoured the battell,

⁴ For Gaza shal be destroyed, and Ascalon shall be layed waste. They shal caste oute Asdod at the noone daye, and Accaron shalbe pluckte vp by the rotes.

⁵ This shall Ascalon se, & be afraied. Gaza shalbe very sory, so shal Accaron also, because her hope is come to confusyon. For the Kinge of Gaza shal peryshe, and at Ascalon shal no man dwel. ⁶ Straungers shal dwel at Asdod, & as for the pryde of the Philistines, I shal rote out ⁷ Their bloud wil I take away from their mouth and their abhominacyons from among their teeth Thus they shalbe left for our God, yea they shalbe as a prince in Iuda, & Accaron like as Iebusy:

²⁶ Then the aungel of the Lorde spake vnto Philippe, saiynge: aryse and go Southward vnto the way, that goeth doune from Ierusalem vnto Gaza, which is in the desert.

¹⁴ For we knowe that the lawe is spirituall but I am carnal, sold vnder synne, ¹⁵ because I wote not what I do. For what. I would do, that I do not: but what I hate, that do I. ¹⁶ Yf I do nowe that which I would not. I graunt to the lawe that it is good. ¹⁷ So then now, yt is not I that do yt, but sinne that dwelleth in me. ¹⁸ For I knowe that in me (that is to saye in my fleshe) dwelleth no good thynge. To wyll is present wyth me: but I fynde no meanes to performe that whiche is good. ¹⁹ For I doo not the good thynge whyche I woulde: but that euyll do I which I woulde not. ²⁰ Finallye, if I do that I woulde not, then is yt not I that do it, but synne that dwelleth in me, doeth it. ²¹ I fynde then by the lawe that when I woulde do good, euyll is present with me.

⁵ Wherfore I thought it necessarye to exhorte the brethren, to come before hande vnto you, for to prepare your good blessyng promysed afore, that it myght be redye, so that it be a blessynge, and not a defraudynge.
