⁶³ And the men that stode about Iesus mocked hym and smote him,

⁹ He is angrye at me, he hateth me, & gnasheth vpon me with hys teth. Myne enemy skouleth vpon me with his eyes. ¹⁰ They haue, opened their mouthes wyde vpon me, and smitten me vpon the cheke despytefully, they haue eased themselues thorow mine aduersite.

⁹ Now am I their songe and am become their yestinge stocke: ¹⁰ they abhorre me, they fle far from me, and stayne my face with spetle. ¹¹ For the Lorde hath opened his quyuer, he had hyt me, and put a brydle in my mouthe. ¹² Vpon my ryght hand they rose together against me, they haue hurte my fete, made a waye to destroye me, ¹³ and my path haue they cleane marred. It was so easy for them to do me harme, that they neded no man to helpe them. ¹⁴ They fell vpon me, as it had bene the breakinge in of waters, and came in by heapes to destroy me.

⁶ But as for me, I am a worme & no man: a very scorne of men and the outcaste of the people. ⁷ Al they that se me, laugh me to scorne: thei shute out their lippes, & shake their heades.

¹³ They gape vpon me with their mouthes, as it were a rampynge and roarynge Lyon.

¹⁵ But in myne aduersitie they reioyse, & gather them together. Yea, the very lame come together agaynste me vnwares, makynge mowes at me, and ceasse not. ¹⁶ With the gredy and scorneful hypocrites they gnasshed vpon me with their teeth.

²⁵ O let them not saye in their hertes: there there, so wolde we haue it: O let them not saye: we haue ouercome hym.

⁷ And why? for thy sake do I suffre reprofe, shame couereth my face. ⁸ I am become a straunger vnto my brethren, and an aleaunt vnto my mothers chyldren. ⁹ For the zele of thyne house hath euen eaten me, and the rebukes of them that rebuked the, is fallen vpon me. ¹⁰ I wepte and chastened my selfe with fastyng, and that was turned to my reprofe. ¹¹ I put on a sacke cloth, and therefore they iested vpon me. ¹² They that sate in the gate, spake agaynste me, & the dronkardes made songes vpon me.

⁷ Moreouer thus sayth the Lorde the auenger and holye one of Israel, because of the abhorrynge and despysynge amonge the Gentyles, concernynge the seruaunte of all them that beare rule: Kynges and prynces shall se, and aryse and worshyppe, because of the Lord that he is faythfull: and because of the holye one of Israell, which hath chosen the.

⁶ but I offre my backe vnto the smyters, & my chekes to the uyppers. I turne not my face from shame & spyttynge, ⁷ for the Lorde God helpeth me, therfore shall I not be confounded. I haue hardened my face like a flynt stone, for I am sure, that I shall not come to confusyon.

¹⁴ Lyke as the multitude shal wondre vpon hym, because his face shalbe so deformed & not as a mans face, & hys bewtye lyke no man:

³ He shalbe the most simple, and despysed of all, which yet hath good experience of sorowes & infyrmyties. We shall reken him so symple and so vyle, that we shall hyde our faces from hym.

¹ After that shalt thou be robbed thy selfe, O thou robbers daughter: they shall laye sege agaynst vs, & smyte the iudge of Israell wyth a rodde vpon the cheke.

⁵⁹ The chiefe priestes and the elders, and all the counsell, sought false wytnes agaynst Iesus, for to put hym to death, ⁶⁰ but founde none in so muche that when manye false wytnesses came yet founde they none. At the laste came two false wytnesses, ⁶¹ and sayed: Thys fellowe sayed: I can destroye the temple of God and buylde it agayne in thre dayes. ⁶² And the chief priest arose, and sayd to hym: answerest thou nothynge? How is it that these beare wytnes agaynst the? ⁶³ But Iesus held hys peace: And the chief Priest answered and sayed to hym: I charge the in the name of the liuynge God, that thou tell vs whyther thou be Christ the sonne of God. ⁶⁴ Iesus sayd to him thou hast sayed. Neuertheles I say vnto you, hereafter shall ye se the sonne of men sittynge on the ryght hand of power, and come in the cloudes of the skye. ⁶⁵ Then the hye Priest rent hys clothes sayinge: He hath blasphemed: what nede we of anye more wytnesses? Beholde nowe ye haue heard hys blasphemy ⁶⁶ what thynke ye? They answered and said: he is worthy to dye. ⁶⁷ Then spat they in hys face and boffeted hym wyth fistes. And other smot hym with the palme of theyr handes ⁶⁸ on the face, sayinge tell vs thou Christ who is he that smote the?

²⁸ And they strypped him, and put on him a purpyll roobe, ²⁹ and platted a croune of thornes & put vpon his head, and a reed in his ryght hande, & bowed their knees before him and mocked hym, sayinge: hayle kinge of the Iewes, ³⁰ and spitted vpon hym & toke the reed and smote him on the head. ³¹ And when they had mocked hym: they toke the robe of hym agayn, and put his owne rayment on hym, and lead him awaye to crucyfye hym.

³⁹ They that passed by, reuyled hym wagginge their heades ⁴⁰ & sayinge: Thou that destroyest the temple of God and buyldest it in thre dayes: saue thy selfe. If thou be the sonne of God: come doune from the crosse. ⁴¹ Lykewise also the hye priestes mockynge hym with the scrybes and elders sayde. ⁴² He saued other, him selfe he can not saue. If he be the kinge of Israel let him now come doune from the crosse, and we wyll beleue him. ⁴³ He trusted in God, let hym deliuer hym now, if he wyl haue him: for he sayde I am the sonne of God. ⁴⁴ That same also the theues which were crucified with him cast in his teth.

⁵⁵ And the hye priestes, and al the counsell soughte for witnes againste Iesu to put him to death, & founde none. ⁵⁶ Yet manye bare false witnes againste him, but theyr witnes agreed not together. ⁵⁷ And there arose certayne and brought false wytnes agaynst hym, saiinge: ⁵⁸ We hearde him saye: I will destroy this temple made with handes, & within .iij. dayes I will buylde another made without handes. ⁵⁹ But theyr wytnes agreed not together. ⁶⁰ And the hyest priest stode vp amongest them: and axed Iesus, sayinge: answerest thou nothynge? Howe is it that these beare witnes agaynst the? ⁶¹ And he helde hys peace, and aunswered nothynge. Agayne the hyest priest axed him, and sayed vnto hym: Arte thou christe the sonne of the blessed? ⁶² And Iesus sayed: I am. And ye shall se the sonne of man sit on the ryght hande of power, and come in the cloudes of heauen. ⁶³ Then the hyest prieste rent hys clothes, & sayd: What nede we any further of witnesse? ⁶⁴ ye haue hearde the blasphemy, what thynke ye? And then they all gaue sentence, that he was worth of death, ⁶⁵ and some began to spit at hym, and to couer hys face, and to beate hym wyth fystes, and to saye vnto him: areade vnto vs? And the seruauntes boffeted hym on the face.

¹⁶ And the soudyers ledde hym away into the common hall, and called together the whole multytude, ¹⁷ and they clothed him wyth purple, and they platted a croune of thornes and crouned hym with al, ¹⁸ and began to salute hym: Hayle kynge of the Iewes. ¹⁹ And they smote hym on the head with a rede, and spatte vpon hym, and kneled doune & worshipped hym. ²⁰ And when they had mocked hym, they toke the purple of hym, and put hys owne clothes on him, and led him out to crucifye him.

²⁷ And they crucified wt hym two theues, the one on the ryght hande, and the other on his lyft. ²⁸ And the scrypture was fulfylled which sayth: he was counted amonge the wycked. ²⁹ And they that wente by rayled on hym: waggynge their heades and sayinge: A wretche, that destroyest the temple, and buyldest it in thre dayes: ³⁰ saue thy selfe, and come doune from the crosse: ³¹ Lykewise also mocked him the hye pryestes amonge them selues with the scribes and sayde: he saued other men, hym selfe he can not saue. ³² Let Christe the kinge of Israel now descende from the crosse, that we may se and beleue. And they that were crucyfyed with hym, checked him also.

²² When he had thus spoken, one of the ministers which stode by, smote Iesus on the face, saiyng: aunswerest thou the hye prieste so?

² lokynge vnto Iesus the author and fynysher of our fayth, whiche for the ioye that was set before hym, abode the crosse, and despised the same, and is set doune on the ryght hande of the throne of God.

²³ which when he was reuyled, reuyled not agayne: when he suffered, he threatened not: but commytted the cause to him that iudgeth ryghtuously,
