¹ And he departed thence, & came into hys owne countre, and hys disciples folowed him. ² And when the Sabboth daye was come, he began to teache in the Sinagoge And many that heard him were astonied, and sayde: From whence hath he these thinges? & what wysedome is this that is geuen vnto him? and suche vertues that are wroughte by his handes? ³ Is not this that carpenter Maries sonne, the brother of Iames and Ioses, & of Iuda and Simon? and are not his systers here with vs? And thei were offended by him. ⁴ And Iesus sayde vnto them: a Prophet is not dispised but in his owne countre, and amonge his owne kinne, and amonge them that are of the same housholde. ⁵ And he could there shewe no miracles, but layd his handes vpon a few sicke folke and healed them. ⁶ And he merueyled at their vnbelefe. And he went about by the tounes that lay on euery side, teachyng. ⁷ And he called the .xij. and began to sende them, two and two, and gaue them power ouer vncleane spirites. ⁸ And commaunded them, that they should take nothinge vnto their iorney saue a rod onely: Neyther scrippe, neither bread, neither money in their pourses: ⁹ but shoulde be shood wyth sandals. And that they should not put on two cootes. ¹⁰ And he sayde vnto them: wheresoeuer ye enter into an house, there abide till ye departe thence. ¹¹ And whosoeuer shal not receyue you nor heare you, when ye departe thence, shake of the dust: that is vnder your fete, for a witnesse vnto them. I say verely vnto you, it shalbe easier for Zodome and Gomoree at the daye of iudgement, then for that citie. ¹² And they went out and preached, that thei should repent: ¹³ and they cast out many deuils. And they anointed many that were sicke with oyle and healed them. ¹⁴ And kynge Herode hearde of hym (for his name was spred abroade) & sayde: Ihon Baptist is rysen agayne from death, and therefore myracles are wrought by him. ¹⁵ Other sayde: it is Helyas: and some sayde: it is a Prophet: or as one of the Prophetes. ¹⁶ But when Herode hearde of hym, he sayde: it is Ihon whome I beheaded, he is rysen from death agayne. ¹⁷ For Herode him selfe had sent forth, & had taken Ihon, and bounde him and cast him into pryson for Herodias sake, whiche was hys brother Philippes wyfe: For he had maried her. ¹⁸ Ihon sayd vnto Herode: It is not lawful for the to haue thy brothers wyfe. ¹⁹ Herodias layed wayte for him, and woulde haue killed him, but she could not. ²⁰ For Herode feared Iohan, knowinge that he was a iust man and an holy: and gaue him reuerence: and when he hearde hym, he did many thynges, and heard him gladly. ²¹ But when a conuement daye was come: Herode on his byrth day made a supper to the lordes, captaynes, and chief estates of Galile. ²² And the doughter of the sayd Herodias came in and daunsed, and pleased Herode, and them that sate at bourde also. Then the kyng sayde vnto the mayden: axe of me what thou wilt, & I wil geue it the. ²³ And he sware to her, whatsoeuer thou shalt axe of me, I wil geue it the, euen vnto the halfe of my kyngdome. ²⁴ And she went forth & sayde to her mother: what shal I axe? And she said: Ihon Baptistes head. ²⁵ And she came in straight way with haste vnto the kynge, and axed saying: I wil that thou geue me by and by in a charger the head of Ihon Baptist. ²⁶ And the kynge was excedinge sory: howbeit, for his othes sake, and for their sakes, whiche sate at supper also, he woulde not put her beside her purpose. ²⁷ And immediatly the kynge sent the hang man, and commaunded his headde to be brought in. And he went and beheaded hym in the pryson, ²⁸ and brought his head in a charger, and gaue it to the mayden, and the maiden gaue it to her mother. ²⁹ And when his disciples heard of it, they came and toke vp his body, and put it in a tombe. ³⁰ And the apostles gathered them selues together to Iesus, & tolde him all thinges, bothe what they had done, & what they had taught. ³¹ And he sayde vnto them: Come ye a parte into the wildernes and rest a while. For there were many commers and goers, that they had no leasure so muche as to eate. ³² And he went by ship out of the wai into a desert place. ³³ But the people spied them when they departed: & many knew him and ranne afote thither out of all cyties, and came thither before them, & came together vnto hym. ³⁴ And Iesus went out and sawe muche people, and had compassion on them, because they were lyke shepe, whyche had no shepeherd. And he beganne to teache them many thinges. ³⁵ And when the daye was now farre spent, his disciples came vnto him saying: this is a deserte place, ³⁶ and nowe the daye is farre passed, let them departe, that they maye go into the countrey roundabout, and into the tounes and bye them bread, for they haue nothing to eate. ³⁷ He aunswered and sayd vnto them: geue ye them to eate. And they sayd vnto him: shal we go and bye .ij.C. peny worth of bread and geue them to eate? ³⁸ He sayde vnto them: howe many loues haue ye? Go and loke. And when they had serched they sayde: fyue and .ij. fishes ³⁹ And he commaunded them to make them all sit doune by companyes vpon the grene grasse. ⁴⁰ And they sat doune, here a rowe and there a rowe, by hundredes, and fifties. ⁴¹ And he toke the .v. loues and the .ij. fishes, and loked vp to heauen, and blessed and brake the loues & gaue them to his disciples to put before theym: and the .ij. fishes he deuided amonge them all. ⁴² And they all did eate and were satisfied. ⁴³ And they toke vp .xij. baskettes ful of the gobbettes and of the fishes. ⁴⁴ And they that eate were aboute fyue thousand men. ⁴⁵ And strayghtwaye he caused his disciples to go into the ship, and to goo ouer the water before vnto Bethsaida, whyle he sent away the people. ⁴⁶ And assone as he had sent them away, he departed into a mountayne to pray. ⁴⁷ And when euen was come, the ship was in the middes of the sea, and he alone on the lande, ⁴⁸ and he sawe them troubled in rowing, for the winde was contrary vnto them. And about the fourth quarter of the night he came vnto them walking vpon the sea, and woulde haue passed by them. ⁴⁹ When they sawe hym walking vpon the sea, they supposed it hadde bene a spirite and cried out: ⁵⁰ for they all sawe hym, and were afrayed. And anone he talked with them, and sayde vnto them. Be of good chere, it is I, be not afrayed. ⁵¹ And he went vp vnto them into the ship, and the wynd ceased, and they were sore amased in them selues beyonde measure, and meruayled. ⁵² For they remembred not of the loues, because their hertes were blynded. ⁵³ And they came ouer and went into the lande of Genezareth, and drue vp into the hauen. ⁵⁴ And assone as they were come out of the ship, strayght they knewe hym, ⁵⁵ and ran forth thorowout all the region round about, and began to cary aboute in beddes all that were sicke, to the place where they herde tell he was. ⁵⁶ And whether so euer he entred into townes, cities, or vilages, they layed theyr sicke in the stretes and prayed hym, that they might touche, and it were but the hemme of his vesture. And as many as touched hym were safe.

²³ & went & dwelt in a citie called Nazareth, to fulfyl that which was spoken by the prophetes: he shalbe called a Nazarite.

⁴ And as he sowed, some fel by the wayes syde, and the foules came and deuoured it vp.

⁵⁴ and came into hys owne countrey, and taught them in theyr sinagoges, in so much that they were astonyed and sayde: whence cometh all thys wysdome and power vnto hym? ⁵⁵ Is not thys the carpenters sonne? Is not his mother called Mary? and hys brethren be called Iames and Ioses and Simon and Iudas? ⁵⁶ And are not hys sisters all here with vs? Whence hath he all these thinges. ⁵⁷ And they were offended by hym. Then Iesus saide to them a Prophet is not without honor saue in his own countrey, & among his own kynne. ⁵⁸ And he did not make miracles there, for their vnbeleues sake.

¹⁶ And he came to Nazareth wher he was nourished: and as his custome was, went into the synagoge on the. Sabboth dayes, & stode vp to reade. ¹⁷ And there was delyuered vnto hym the boke of the prophete Esayas. And when he had opened the boke, he founde the place wher it was written: ¹⁸ The spyryte of the Lorde vpon me, because he hath anointed me: to preache the gospell to the poore he hath sent me, and to heale the broken herted, to preache deliueraunce to the captiue, and syght to the blynde, and frely to set at lyberte them that are brused, ¹⁹ and to preache the acceptable yeare of the Lorde. ²⁰ And he closed the boke, and gaue it againe to the mynister, and sate doune. And the eyes of all that were in the synagoge were fastened on him. ²¹ And he began to saye vnto them. This daye is this scripture fulfylled in youre eares. ²² And all bare him witnes, and wondred at the gracious wordes which proceded out of his mouthe, and saide: Is not this Iosephs sonne? ²³ And he sayde vnto them: Ye maye very wel saye vnto me these prouerbe: Phisicon, heale thy selfe. Whatsoeuer we haue hearde done in Capernaum, do the same here lykewyse in thine owne countrye. ²⁴ And he sayed: verely I saye vnto you. No prophete is accepted in his owne countrye. ²⁵ But I tell you of a truthe, manye wydowes were in Israel in the dayes of Helias, when heauen was shut thre yeares & syxe moneths when great fanishment was through out all the lande, ²⁶ and vnto none of them was Helias sent, saue vnto Sarepta besydes Sydon vnto a woman that was a wydowe. ²⁷ And manye lepers were in Israel in the tyme of Helyseus the prophet, and yet none of them was healed, sauinge Naman of Siria. ²⁸ And as many as were in the synagoge when they hearde that, were fylled with wrath: ²⁹ and rose vp, and thrust him out of the citye, & ledde him euen vnto the edge of the hyll, where on their cytye was bult, to cast hym doune hedlynge. ³⁰ But he wente his way euen through the myddes of them.

²³ And Iesus went about al Galile, teaching in their sinagoges, & preaching the gospel of the kingdome, & healed al maner of sickenes, & all maner of diseases among the people.

²⁸ And it came to passe, that when Iesus had ended these saynges, the people were astonyed at his doctrine.

²¹ And they entred into Capernaum: & straight waye on the Saboth dayes, he entred into the synagoge & taught. ²² And they merueyled at hys learning. For he taught them as one that had power with hym, and not as the scrybes.

³⁹ And he preached in theyr synagoges, throughoute all Galile, and caste the deuyls out.

¹⁵ And he taught in their synagoges, and was commended of all men.

³¹ And came into Capernaum a cytye of Galyle, and there taught them on the saboth dayes. ³² And they were astonyed at his doctryne, for his preachinge was wyth power.

⁴² And they sayde: Is not this Iesus the sonne of Ioseph, whose father and mother we knowe? Howe is it then that he saieth: I came doune from heauen?

¹⁵ And the Iewes maruayled saiynge: How knoweth he the scriptures, seiyng that he neuer learned?

¹³ When they sawe the boldnes of Peter & Iohn and vnderstode that, they were vnlerned men and lay people, they meruailed, and they knew then that they were with Iesu: ¹⁴ and beholdinge also the man whiche was healed standynge wyth them, they coulde not saye agaynst it.

⁷ Moreouer thus sayth the Lorde the auenger and holye one of Israel, because of the abhorrynge and despysynge amonge the Gentyles, concernynge the seruaunte of all them that beare rule: Kynges and prynces shall se, and aryse and worshyppe, because of the Lord that he is faythfull: and because of the holye one of Israell, which hath chosen the.

² He shall growe before the Lorde lyke as a braunche, and as a rote in a drye grounde, he shall haue neither bewtye nor fauoure. When we loke vpon him there shalbe no fayrenesse: we shall haue no lust vnto him ³ He shalbe the most simple, and despysed of all, which yet hath good experience of sorowes & infyrmyties. We shall reken him so symple and so vyle, that we shall hyde our faces from hym.

⁶ And happye is he that is not offended by me.

⁴⁶ Whyle he yet talked to the people: beholde his mother and his brethren stode without, desyrynge to speake with hym.

¹⁸ and Andrew, and Philip, & Bartelmew, and Mathew, & Thomas, & Iames the sonne of Alphey & Taddeus, & Symon of Cane,

⁴⁰ Ther were also women a good waye of beholdyng hym: among whom was Mary Magdalen, and Marye the mother of Iames the lytle, and of Ioses, & Mary Salome:

³⁴ And Symon blessed them, & sayd vnto Mary his mother: beholde, this chylde shalbe the fal and resurrection of manye in Israel, & sygne which shalbe spoken againste.

⁶⁰ Many therfore of his disciples, when they had hearde this, sayd this is anhearde saiynge: who can abide the hearinge of it? ⁶¹ Iesus knewe in him selfe, that his disciples murmured at it, and sayde vnto them: Doth this offende you?

²² Iudas sayd vnto hym (not Iudas Iscarioth) Lord what is the cause that thou wilte shewe thy selfe vnto vs, & not vnto the worlde?

¹³ And when they were come in, they went vp into a parler where abode bothe Peter, and Iames, Iohn and Andrew, Philip & Thomas, Bartlemew and Matthewe, Iames the sonne of Alpheus and Simon zelotes, and Iudas Iames sonne.

²³ But we preache Christe crucifyed vnto the Iewes an occasion of fallinge, and vnto the Grekes folishnes,

⁴ Haue we not power to eate, and to drinke?

¹⁹ no nother of the Apostles sawe I, saue Iames the Lordes brother.

⁴ to whome ye come as vnto a lyuinge stone dysalowed of men, but chosen of God and precyous:

¹ Iudas the seruaunte of Iesus Christ, the brother of Iames. To them whyche are called & sanctyfied in God the father, and preserued in Iesu Christe.

²¹ The Lord therfore spake thus of the citezyns of Anothoth, that sought to slaye me, sayenge: Preache not vnto vs in the name of the Lord, or els thou shalt dye of oure handes.

⁶ For thy brethren and thy kynred haue all together despised the, & cried out vpon the in thine absence. Beleue them not, though they speake fayre wordes to th

⁵⁷ And they were offended by hym. Then Iesus saide to them a Prophet is not without honor saue in his own countrey, & among his own kynne.

²⁴ And he sayed: verely I saye vnto you. No prophete is accepted in his owne countrye.

⁴⁴ And Iesus hym selfe testifyed, that a Prophet hath no honoure in hys own countrye.

²² Haste the, and saue thy selfe there, for I can do nothyng tyl thou be come in thyther. And therfore the name of the cyte is called Zoar.

²⁵ And when he sawe that he could not preuayle agaynste hym, he smote hym vnder the thye, & the senowe of Iacobs thye shranke as he wrestled with him

¹ Beholde, the Lordes hand is not so shortened, that it can not helpe, neyther is his care so stopped, that it maye not heare. ² But youre misdedes haue separated you from youre God, and youre synnes hyde his face from you, that he heareth you not.

⁵⁸ And he did not make miracles there, for their vnbeleues sake.

²³ & besought hym greatly sayinge: my doughter lyeth at point of death, I woulde thou wouldest come and laye thy hande on her, that she might be safe and lyue.

²³ And Iesus sayd vnto him: yea, if thou couldest beleue, al thinges are possible to him that beleueth.

² For vnto vs was it declared, as well as vnto them. But it profiteth not them that they hearde the worde, because they which hearde it, coupled it not wyth fayth.

¹⁶ He sawe also, that there was noman, whiche had pitie thereof, or was greued at it. And he helde him by hys owne power, and cleued to his owne ryghteousnes.

¹¹ whether the Gentiles them selues deale so fastly and vntruly with their goddes (whiche yet are no Goddes in dede.) But my people hath geuen ouer their hye honoure, for a thinge that maye not helpe them.

¹⁰ When Iesus hearde that, he maruailed & sayed to them that folowed him. Verely I say vnto you, I haue not founde so great faith: no, not in Israel.

³⁵ And Iesus went aboute all cytyes and tounes, teachinge in their synagoges and preachinge the gladde tidinges of the kingdome, and healinge all maner sicknes and disease amonge the people.

³¹ And came into Capernaum a cytye of Galyle, and there taught them on the saboth dayes.

⁴⁴ And he preached in the synagoges of Galyle,

²² And he went thorowe all maner of cities & tounes teachynge and iorneynge towardes Hierusalem.

³⁰ The man aunswered, and sayd vnto them: Thys is a merueylous thynge, that ye wote not whence he is, seyng he hath opened myne eyes.

³⁸ howe God had annoynted Iesus of Nazareth wyth the holy ghost, and wyth power. Whiche Iesus went about doynge good, and healinge all that were oppressed of the deuils for God was wyth him.

¹⁴ And the lord was angry with Moyses and said: I knowe Aaron thy brother the Leuite that he can speake. And more ouer behold, he cometh to mete the, & when he seeth the he wyll be glade in hys herte. ¹⁵ And thou shalt speake vnto hym and put the wordes in his mouth, and I wylbe wyth thy mouth and wyth his mouth, and wyl teach you what ye shall do.

⁹ Therfore two are better then one, for they may well enioy the profyt of their labour. ¹⁰ If one of them fall, hys companion helpeth hym vp agayn: But wo is hym that is alone, for if he fall, he hathe not another to helpe hym vp.

¹ And he called his .xij. Disciples vnto him & gaue theym power ouer vncleane spyrytes, to caste them out, and to heale all maner of sycknesses, and al maner of diseases. ² The names of the .xij. Apostles are these. The fyrst Simon called also Peter: and Andrewe his brother. Iames the sonne of Zebede, and Iohn his brother: ³ Philip and Bartlemew. Thomas and Mathewe the publican. Iames the sonne of Alphe, and Lebbius otherwyse called Taddeus. ⁴ Symon of Cane, and Iudus Iscarioth which also betrayed hym. ⁵ These .xij. sent Iesus forth after he had geuen to them commaundement sainge Go not into the wayes that lead to the gentyls, & into the cityes of the Samaritanes enter ye not.

⁹ Possesse not golde, nor syluer, nor brasse in your girdles, ¹⁰ nor yet scrip towardes your yourney: neither two cotes neyther shues, nor yet a staste. For the worck man is worthye to haue his meate. ¹¹ Into whatsoeuer citye or toune ye shall come enquire who is worthye in it, & there abyde tyl ye go thence ¹² And when ye come into an house salute the same. ¹³ And if the house be worthy, your peace shall come vpon it. But if it be not worthy, your peace shall retourne to you againe. ¹⁴ And whosoeuer shall not receiue you, nor wyll heare your preachinge: when ye departe out of that house or that cytye, shake of the duste of your fete.

¹³ And he wente vp into a mountayne, and called vnto hym whome he woulde, and they came vnto hym. ¹⁴ And he ordeyned the .xij. that they shoulde be with hym, & that he myghte sende them to preache,

¹⁷ And these sygnes shall folowe them that beleue. In my name they shall caste oute deuils, & shall speake with newe tonges,

¹³ And assone as it was daye, he called his disciples, and of them he chose .xij. whiche also he called Apostles: ¹⁴ Symon whom he named Peter, & Andrewe his brother, Iames and Ihon, Philippe and Bartelmewe, ¹⁵ Mathewe and Thomas, Iames the sonne of Alpheus, and Simon called Zelotes, ¹⁶ and Iudas Iames sonne, and Iudas Iscarioth which same was the traytour.

¹ Then called he the .xij. together, and gaue them power, and authoryte ouer all Deuyls, and that they myght heale diseases. ² And he sent them to preache the kyngdome of God, and to cure the sycke. ³ And he sayed to them: Take nothinge to sucker you by the waye neither staffe, nor scrype, neyther bread neyther money, neither haue .ij. cotes. ⁴ And whatsoeuer house ye enter into, there abyde and thence departe: ⁵ And whosoeuer wyll not receyue you, when ye go out of that cytye shake of the verye dust from your fete, for a testimonye against them. ⁶ And they went out, and went through the tounes, preachyng the gospell: and healynge euerye wher.

¹ After these thynges, the Lord appoynted other seuentye also: and sent them, two & two before him into euery citie and place, whyther he hym selfe woulde come.

³ Go youre wayes: beholde, I sende you forth as lambes among wolues. ⁴ Beare no wallet neyther scryppe, nor shues, and salute no man by the way. ⁵ Into whatsoeuer house ye enter, fyrste saye: Peace be to thys house. ⁶ And yf the sonne of peace be there your peace shal reste vpon hym: yf not, it shal returne to you agayne. ⁷ And in the same house tary styll, eatynge and drinckynge suche as they haue. For the labourer is worthy of thys rewarde. Go not from house to house, ⁸ & into whatsoeuer citie ye enter, yf they receyue you, eate suche thynges as are set before you, ⁹ and heale the sycke that are there, and say vnto them: the kyngedome of God is come nye vnto you. ¹⁰ But into whatsoeuer citie ye shall enter, yf they receyue you not, go youre wayes out into the streates of the same and saye: ¹¹ euen the very duste, whiche cleaueth on vs of your citie, we wype of agaynste you. Notwithstandynge marke this that the kyngdome of God was come nye vpon you. ¹² Yea, and I saye to you, that it shalbe easier in that daye for Zodome then for that citie.

¹⁷ And the seuenty returned againe with ioye saiynge. Lorde euen the very deuyls are subdued to vs throughe thy name. ¹⁸ And he sayde vnto them: I sawe Sathan, as it had bene lyghtenynge, fall doune from heauen. ¹⁹ Beholde, I geue vnto you power to treade on serpentes & scorpions, & ouer all maner power of the enemye, and nothynge shall hurte you. ²⁰ Neuerthelesse, in thys reioyse not that the spirites are vnder youre power: but reioyse because your names are written in heauen.

³ And I will geue power vnto my .ij. witnesses, & they shal prophesy .M.ij.C. & .lx. daies, cloteth in sacke cloth.

⁸ And the aungell sayed vnto him: gyrde thy selfe, and bind on thy sandales. And so he dyd. And he sayed vnto hym: cast thy mantle aboute the, & folow me.

¹⁵ and shoed with shoes prepared by the Gospel of peace.

¹¹ Into whatsoeuer citye or toune ye shall come enquire who is worthye in it, & there abyde tyl ye go thence ¹² And when ye come into an house salute the same. ¹³ And if the house be worthy, your peace shall come vpon it. But if it be not worthy, your peace shall retourne to you againe.

⁴ And whatsoeuer house ye enter into, there abyde and thence departe:

⁷ And in the same house tary styll, eatynge and drinckynge suche as they haue. For the labourer is worthy of thys rewarde. Go not from house to house, ⁸ & into whatsoeuer citie ye enter, yf they receyue you, eate suche thynges as are set before you,

⁵ But the Iewes which beleued not, hauing indignacyon, toke vnto them euyl men which were vagabondes, and gathered a companie, and set all the citie on a rore, and made asaulte vnto the house of Iason, and sought to bryng them out to the people. ⁶ But when they found them not, they drue Iason and certayne brethren vnto the heades of the citie, criynge: these that trouble the worlde are come hyther also, ⁷ which Iason hath receyued pryuely. And these all do contrary to the decrees of Cesar, affyrmyng another kynge, one Iesus.

¹³ And I shoke my lappe, and sayde: God shake oute euerye man after the same maner from hys house and laboure, that maynteyneth not thys worde: euen thus be he shaken oute, and voyde. And all the congregacyon sayde: Amen, and praysed the Lorde. And the people dyd so.

⁴⁸ As truly as I lyue, sayeth the lorde God: Sodoma thy sister with her doughters hath not done so euyl, as thou and thy doughters. ⁴⁹ Beholde, the sinnes of thy sister Sodoma were these: Pryde, fulnesse of meate, aboundaunce and Idelnesse: these thynges had she and her doughters. Besydes that, they reached not their hande to the pore and nedy, ⁵⁰ but were proude, and dyd abhomynable thinges before me: therfore I toke them awaye, when I had sene it. ⁵¹ Neyther had Samaria done halfe of thy synnes, yea thou haste exceaded them in wyckednesse. In so muche that in comparyson of all the abhomynacions whyche thou haste done, thou haste made thy systers good wemen.

¹⁴ And whosoeuer shall not receiue you, nor wyll heare your preachinge: when ye departe out of that house or that cytye, shake of the duste of your fete. ¹⁵ Truly I say vnto you: it shalbe easyer for the lande of Sodoma & Gomorra in the daye of iudgement then for that citie.

²⁰ Then began he to vpbrayd the cytyes, in which most of his miracles were done, because they mended not. ²¹ Wo be to the Chorasin. Wo be to the Bethzaida: for if the miracles which were shewed in you, had be done in Tyre and Sidon, they had repented longe agone in sackcloth and ashes. ²² Neuerthelesse I saye to you: it shall be easier for Tyre and Sydon at the daye of iudgement, then for you. ²³ And thou Capernaum, which art lyft vp vnto heauen, shall be brought doune to hell. For if the miracles which haue bene done in the, had be shewed in Zodome: they had remayned to this daye. ²⁴ Neuerthelesse I saye vnto you: it shall be easyer for the lande of Zodom in the daye of iudgement, then for the.

³⁶ But I say vnto you, that of euery idell worde that men shall haue spoken: they shall geue a countes at the daye of iudgement.

⁵ And whosoeuer wyll not receyue you, when ye go out of that cytye shake of the verye dust from your fete, for a testimonye against them.

¹⁰ But into whatsoeuer citie ye shall enter, yf they receyue you not, go youre wayes out into the streates of the same and saye: ¹¹ euen the very duste, whiche cleaueth on vs of your citie, we wype of agaynste you. Notwithstandynge marke this that the kyngdome of God was come nye vpon you. ¹² Yea, and I saye to you, that it shalbe easier in that daye for Zodome then for that citie. ¹³ Wo be to the Chorazim, wo be to the Bethsaida. ²² Yf I had not come, and spoken vnto them, they should not haue had synne: but now haue they nothynge to cloke theyr synne with all. ²³ He that hateth me, hateth my father. ²⁴ If I had not done workes among them which none other man dyd, they had not had synne. But now haue they sene, & yet haue hated both me & my father:

⁵⁰ But the, Iewes moued the worshypfull and honorable women, & the chiefe men of the citie, and raysed persecucion agaynste Paule and Barnabas, & expelled them out of theyr costes. ⁵¹ And they shoke of the dust of theyr fete agaynst them, and came vnto Iconium.

⁶ And when they sayde contrary and blasphemed, he shoke his raymente and sayed vnto them, youre bloude vpon youre owne heades, & frome henceforth I go blameles vnto the gentils.

⁵ But thou after thyne harde herte that can not repente, heapeste the together the treasure of wrath againste the daye of vengaunce, when shall be opened the rightuous iudgement of God,

¹⁶ at the daye when God shall iudge the secretes of men by Iesus Christ accordynge to my Gospell.

⁴ For it is not possible that they whiche were ones lyghted, and haue tasted of the heauenly gyft, and were become partakers of the holy ghoste, ⁵ and haue tasted of the good worde of God, and of the worlde to come: ⁶ yf they fall, shoulde be renued agayne vnto repentaunce: for as muche as they haue (as concernynge them selues) crucifyed the sonne of God a freshe makynge a mocke of hym. ⁷ For that earthe whiche drincketh in the rayne whiche commeth ofte vpon it, and bryngeth forth herbes mete for them that dresse it, receyueth blessynge of God. ⁸ But that ground which beareth thornes and bryars, is reproued, and is nye vnto curssynge: whose ende is to be burned.

²⁶ For yf we synne wyllyngly after that we haue receyued the knowledge of the trueth, ther remayneth no more sacryfyce for synnes, ²⁷ but a fearful lokynge for iudgement, and vyolente fyre, whyche shal deuoure the aduersaryes. ²⁸ He that despyseth Moyses lawe, dyeth wythout mercye vnder two or thre wytnesses ²⁹ Of howe muche sorer punyshement suppose ye shal he be counted worthy, whych treadeth vnder fote the sonne of God: and counted the bloud of the testament as an vnholy thynge wherwyth he was sanctyfyed, and doth dishonour to the spyryte of grace. ³⁰ For we knowe hym that hath sayde: vengeaunce belongeth vnto me. I wyll recompence sayth the lorde. And agayne: the lord shall iudge hys people. ³¹ It is a fearfull thynge to falle into the handes of the lyuynge God.

⁶ and turned the cyties of Sodom and Gomor into ashes, ouerthrowe them, dampned them, and made on them an ensample vnto all that after shoulde lyue vngodly.

⁹ The Lorde knoweth howe to deliuer the Godlye out of temptacion, and howe to reserue the vniuste vnto the daye of iudgement for to be punyshed,

⁷ But the heauens verely and earth, which are now are kept by the same worde in store, and reserued vnto fyre, agaynste the daye of iudgemente, and perdycyon of vngodlye men.

¹⁷ Herin is the loue perfect in vs, that we shoulde haue trust in the daye of iudgement: For as he is, euen so are we in thys worlde.

⁷ euen as Sodome and Gomor, and the cytyes about them (which in lyke maner defyled them selues with fornicacyon, and folowed straunge fleshe) are sette forth for an ensample, and suffer the vengeaunce of eternal fyre.

³⁰ As for me I will iudge euery man, accordynge to hys wayes, O ye house of Israel, sayeth the Lord God. Wherfore be conuerted, and turne you cleane from all youre wickednesse, so shall there no sinne do you harme.

² saying: Repent the kingdome of heauen is at hande.

⁸ Bringe forth therfore the frutes belonging to repentaunce.

¹⁷ From the tyme Iesus began to preache, & to say repent for the kingdom of heauen is at hand.

¹³ Go, and learne, what that meaneth: I haue pleasure in mercye, & not in offerynge. For I am not come to cal the ryghtuouse but the synners to repentaunce.

²⁰ Then began he to vpbrayd the cytyes, in which most of his miracles were done, because they mended not.

³ The voyce of a cryer in the wildernes prepare the waye of the Lord: make hys pathes strayghte.

¹⁵ and sayinge: the tyme is come, & the kyngdome of God is at hande, repente & beleue the Gospell.

⁶ And they went out, and went through the tounes, preachyng the gospell: and healynge euerye wher.

³² The men of Niniue shall ryse at the iudgement wt thys generacyon, and condempne them: for they repented at the preaching of Ionas. And beholde a greater then Ionas is here.

³ I tell you naye: but excepte ye repente, ye shall all lykewyse peryshe.

⁷ I saye vnto you, that lykewyse ioye shalbe in heauen ouer one synner, that repenteth, more then ouer nyntye and nyne iust persons whiche nede no repentaunce.

¹⁰ Lykewyse I saye vnto you ioye is made in the presence of the Angels of God ouer one synner that repenteth.

⁴⁷ and that repentaunce and remissyon of synnes shoulde be preached in his name amonge all nacions. And must begynne at Ierusalem.

³⁸ Peter sayde vnto them: repent and be baptysed euerye one of you in the name of Iesus Christe for the remission of sinnes, and ye shall receiue the gifte of the holye ghost.

¹⁹ Repent ye therfore and turne, that youre synnes maye be done awaye. When the tyme of refreshing commeth, which we shall haue of the presence of the Lorde,

¹⁸ When they heard thys, they helde their peace & gloryfyed God, sayinge: then hath God also to the gentyls graunted repentaunce vnto lyfe.

²¹ wytnessyng both to the Iewes, and also to the Grekes, the repentaunce towarde God and fayth towarde oure Lorde Iesus.

²⁰ but shewed fyrst vnto them of Damasco, and at Hierusalem and through out all the coastes of Iewry, and to the gentyls, that they should repent, & tourne to God, and do the ryght workes of repentaunce.

⁹ But I nowe reioyce, not that ye were sory, but that ye so sorowed, that ye repented. For ye sorowed Godlye, so that in nothyng ye were hurt by vs. ¹⁰ For Godly sorowe causeth repentaunce vnto saluacyon, not to be repented of: when worldlye sorowe causeth death.

²⁵ the euyll in meakenes, and can informe them that resiste: yf that God at any tyme wyll geue them repentaunce for to know the trueth, ²⁶ that they may come to them selues agayne out of the snare of the deuyll, whiche are nowe taken of hym at hys wyll.

⁷ And he called the .xij. and began to sende them, two and two, and gaue them power ouer vncleane spirites.

¹⁷ And the seuenty returned againe with ioye saiynge. Lorde euen the very deuyls are subdued to vs throughe thy name.

¹⁴ Yf anye be deseased amonge you, let hym call for the elders of the congregacyon, and let them praye ouer him, and annoynte hym wyt oyle in the name of the Lord ¹⁵ and the prayer of fayth shall saue the sicke, & the Lorde shall rayse hym vp: and yf he haue commytted synnes, they shalbe forgeuen him.

⁸ And the Ammonites gaue tribute to Oziah, & his name sprede abroade euen to Egipt: for he played the man exceaded.

¹⁵ And he made engynes in Ierusalem by the crafte of artifycers to be on the towres & corners, to shote arowes & great stones with al. And his name spreade farre abroade, for he was wonderflye holpe, vntyl he was become myghtye.

³¹ But they assone as they were departed, spred abrode his name through out all the lande.

¹ At that tyme Herode the Tetrarcha heard of the fame of Iesu, ² & sayd vnto his seruantes. This is Ihon Baptiste. He is rysen agayne from death, and therefore are suche miracles wrought by hym. ³ For Herode had taken Ihon and bounde hym, & put hym in pryson for Herodias sake hys brother Philips wyfe. ⁴ For Ihon sayd vnto him. It is not lawfull for the to haue her. ⁵ And when he would haue put him to deth, he feared the people, because they counted hym as a Prophet. ⁶ But when Herodes byrth daie was come, the daughter of Heeodias daunsed before them and pleased Herode. ⁷ Wherefore he promysed with an othe, that he woulde geue her whatsoeuer she woulde axe. ⁸ And she beynge informed of her mother before sayd: geue me here Ihon Baptistes head in a platter. ⁹ And the king sorowed. Neuertheles for hys othe sake, & for theyr sakes that satte at also at the table, he commaunded it to be geuen her: ¹⁰ and sent & beheaded Ihon in the pryson, ¹¹ and hys headde was brought in a platter and geuen to the damsel, and she brought it to her mother. ¹² And hys disciples came and toke vp the body, and buried it: and went and tolde Iesus.

²⁸ And immediatly hys fame spred abroade throughoute al the regyon borderynge on Galile.

⁴⁵ But he (assone as he departed) beganne to tell many thynges, & to publyshe the dede: in so muche that Iesus coulde no more openlye enter into the citie, but was without in desert places. And they came to him from euerye quarter.

¹⁴ And kynge Herode hearde of hym (for his name was spred abroade) & sayde: Ihon Baptist is rysen agayne from death, and therefore myracles are wrought by him. ¹⁵ Other sayde: it is Helyas: and some sayde: it is a Prophet: or as one of the Prophetes. ¹⁶ But when Herode hearde of hym, he sayde: it is Ihon whome I beheaded, he is rysen from death agayne. ¹⁷ For Herode him selfe had sent forth, & had taken Ihon, and bounde him and cast him into pryson for Herodias sake, whiche was hys brother Philippes wyfe: For he had maried her. ¹⁸ Ihon sayd vnto Herode: It is not lawful for the to haue thy brothers wyfe. ¹⁹ Herodias layed wayte for him, and woulde haue killed him, but she could not. ²⁰ For Herode feared Iohan, knowinge that he was a iust man and an holy: and gaue him reuerence: and when he hearde hym, he did many thynges, and heard him gladly. ²¹ But when a conuement daye was come: Herode on his byrth day made a supper to the lordes, captaynes, and chief estates of Galile. ²² And the doughter of the sayd Herodias came in and daunsed, and pleased Herode, and them that sate at bourde also. Then the kyng sayde vnto the mayden: axe of me what thou wilt, & I wil geue it the. ²³ And he sware to her, whatsoeuer thou shalt axe of me, I wil geue it the, euen vnto the halfe of my kyngdome. ²⁴ And she went forth & sayde to her mother: what shal I axe? And she said: Ihon Baptistes head. ²⁵ And she came in straight way with haste vnto the kynge, and axed saying: I wil that thou geue me by and by in a charger the head of Ihon Baptist. ²⁶ And the kynge was excedinge sory: howbeit, for his othes sake, and for their sakes, whiche sate at supper also, he woulde not put her beside her purpose. ²⁷ And immediatly the kynge sent the hang man, and commaunded his headde to be brought in. And he went and beheaded hym in the pryson, ²⁸ and brought his head in a charger, and gaue it to the mayden, and the maiden gaue it to her mother. ²⁹ And when his disciples heard of it, they came and toke vp his body, and put it in a tombe.

²⁸ And they aunswered: some say that thou arte Ihon Baptist: some say Helias: and some, one of the Prophetes.

¹ And in the .xv. yeare of the raygne of Tiberius the Emperoure, Pontius Pilate beiynge lieftenaunte of Iury, and Herode beyinge Tethrarch of Galyle, and hys brother Philippe Tethrarchin Iturea & in the region of Traconytes, and Lysanyas the Tetrarche of Abilene,

⁷ And Herode the Tetrarch hearde of al that was done by hym, and doubted, because that it was sayde of some, that Iohn was rysen agayne from death, ⁸ and of some that Helyas had appeared: and of other that one of the olde prophetes was rysen agayne. ⁹ And Herode sayde: Ihon haue I beheaded: who then is this of whom I hearde such thinges? And he desyred to se hym.

³¹ The same daye there came certayne of the Pharises and sayde to him: Get the out of the waye, and departe hence: For Herode wyl kil the.

⁷ And as sone as he was knewen that he was of Herodes iurisdiccion he sent him to Herode, which was also at Ierusalem in those dayes: ⁸ And when Herode sawe Iesus, he was excedinglye gladde. For he was desyrous to se hym of a long season, because he had heard many thinges of him, and trusted to haue sene some miracles done by hym. ⁹ Then questioned he with hym of manye thinges. But he aunswered him not one worde. ¹⁰ The hye priestes and scribes, stode forth and accused him straightlye. ¹¹ And Herode with his men of warre despysed him and mocked him, and arayed him in white, and sent him again to Pilate. ¹² And the same daye Pylate and Herode were made frendes together. For before they were at variaunce.

⁸ For from you sounded out the worde of the Lord, not in Macedonia & in Achaia onelye: but your fayth also which ye haue vnto God, sprede her selfe abrode in all quarters, so greatlye that it neadeth not vs to speake any thynge at all.

⁵ Beholde, I wyl sende you Elias the Prophet: before the comming of the daye of the greate and fearfull Lorde.

¹⁴ They sayde: some saye that thou arte Ihon Baptist, some Helyas, som Ieremias, or one of the Prophetes.

¹⁰ And hys disciples axed of hym saying: Why then say the Scribes, that Helyas must first come? ¹¹ Iesus aunswered and sayde vnto them Helias shall first come and restore all thynges.

¹¹ And the people sayd: this is Iesus the prophet of Nazareth a citie of Galile.

¹² He aunswered and sayde vnto them: Helias verely shal first come and restore all thinges. And also the sonne of man as it is written, shall suffer many thynges, and shalbe set at nought. ¹³ Moreouer I saye vnto you that Helyas is come, and they haue done vnto hym whatsoeuer pleased theym, as it is written of hym.

³⁵ And some of them that stode by, when they hearde that: saide: behold he calleth for Helias. ³⁶ And one ran and fylled a sponge full of vyneger and put it on a rede, and gaue him to drinke, saying let him alone, let vs se whither Helyas wyll come and take him doune.

¹⁷ And he shall go before hym in the spryte of power of Helyas, to turne the hertes of the fathers to the chyldren and the vnbeleuers to the wisdome of the iust men, to make the people redy for the Lord.

¹⁶ And there came a feare on them all. And they glorifyed God saiynge: a greate Prophete is rysen among vs, and God hath visyted his people.

³⁹ When the pharysey which bade him, sawe that he speake within him selfe saiyng. If this man were a Prophete, he woulde surely haue knowen who and what maner woman this is which toucheth him, for she is a synner.

⁸ and of some that Helyas had appeared: and of other that one of the olde prophetes was rysen agayne.

¹⁹ They aunswered and sayd: Iohn Baptiste. Some saye, Helyas. And some saye, one of the olde prophetes is risen agayne.

²¹ And they axed hym: what then? Art thou Helias? And he sayed: I am not. Art thou a Prophete? And he aunswered no.

²⁵ And they axed him: and sayd vnto him: why baptysest thou then if thou be not Christ, nor Helias, neyther a Prophete?

¹⁴ Then the men when they had sene the miracle that Iesus did, saide: this is of a truthe the prophete that shoulde come into the worlde.

⁴⁰ Manye of the people, when they hearde that saiynge sayed: of a truthe this is a Prophete,

¹⁷ Then spake they vnto the blynde agayne. What saiest thou of hym, because he hath opened thyne eyes? And he sayed: He is a Prophete.

²² For Moyses sayd vnto the fathers: A Prophete shall the Lorde youre God raise vp vnto you, euen of youre brethren lyke vnto me: hym shall ye heare in all thynges, whatsoeuer he shall saye vnto you. ²³ For the tyme wyll come, that euerye soule, whyche shal not heare that same prophete, shal be destroyed from amonge the people.

¹⁰ & in the vyne were .iij. braunches, and it was as though it budded, and her blossoms shott forth: & the grapes there of waxed rype. ¹¹ And I had Pharaos cuppe in my hand, and toke of the grapes & wronge them into Pharaos cuppe, & delyuered Pharaos cuppe in to hys hande.

⁵ They are afrayed, where no feare is: for God breaketh the bones of them that beseige the: thou puttest them to confusion, for God despiseth them.

⁹ And Herode sayde: Ihon haue I beheaded: who then is this of whom I hearde such thinges? And he desyred to se hym.

¹⁰ And they that dwell vpon the earth, shall reioyse ouer them and be glad, and shal sende gyftes one to another for these two prophetes vexed them that dwelt on the earth. ¹¹ And after .iij. dayes and an halfe the spyryte of lyfe from God, entred into them. And they stode vp vpon theyr fete, and great feare came vpon them, whiche sawe them. ¹² And they harde a greate voyce from heauen, saying vnto them. Come vp hether. And they ascende vp into heauen in a cloud and their enemies sawe them. ¹³ And the same houre was there a greate earth quake, and the tenth parte of the cytye fell, and in the earth quake were slayne names of men seuen thousande, and the remnaunte were feared, and gaue glorye to GOD of heauen.

¹² When Iesus had heard that Iohn was taken, he departed into Galile

² When Iohn beinge in prison hearde the workes of Christe, he sent two of his discyples

¹⁹ Then Herode the Tetrarche (when he was rebuked of him for Herodias his brothers wyfe and for al the euyls, which Herode had done) ²⁰ added this aboue al, and laied Ihon in prison.

¹⁶ Thou shalt not vnhyll the secrettes of thy brothers wyfe, for that is thy brothers pryuyte.

²¹ If a man take his brothers wyfe, it is an vncleane thyng, he hath vncouered his brothers secrettes, they shalbe childlesse therfore.

¹⁴ And Mycheah sayde: as surely as the Lorde lyueth, what the Lorde putteth in my mouthe, that wil I speake.

¹⁸ If I sayde vnto the, concernynge the vngodly man: that (wythout doute) he muste dye, and thou geuest hym not warnynge, ner speakest vnto hym, that he maye turne from hys euell waye, and so to lyue: Then shalll the same vngodly man dye in hys owne vnryghtuousnes: but hys bloude wyll I requyre of thyne hande. ¹⁹ Neuertheles, yf thou geue warnynge vnto the wycked, and he yet forsake not his vngodlynesse: then shall he dye in his owne wyckednesse, but thou hast discharged thy soule.

³ For Herode had taken Ihon and bounde hym, & put hym in pryson for Herodias sake hys brother Philips wyfe. ⁴ For Ihon sayd vnto him. It is not lawfull for the to haue her.

²⁶ Wherfore I take you to recorde this same daye that I am pure from the bloud of all men. ²⁷ For I haue kept nothynge backe, but haue shewed you all the counsell of God.

²⁴ And after a certaine daies came Felix and his wyfe Drusilla, which was a Iewas, and called forth Paul, and heard him of the fayth which is towarde Christ. ²⁵ And as he preached of rightuousnes, temperaunce and iudgement to come. Felix trembled and aunswered: thou haste done inough at this tyme, departe. When I haue a conueniente tyme, I wil send for the. ²⁶ He hoped also, that money should haue bene geuen hym of Paul, that he myght louse him: wherfore he called him the oftener, and communed wyth hym.

¹⁷ And she told him accordyng to these wordes saying. This Hebrues seruaunte whiche thou hast brought vnto vs came in to me to do me shame. ¹⁸ But as soone as I lyft vp my voyce and cryed, he left hys garment with me & fled out. ¹⁹ When his master herde the woordes of his wyfe which she told hym sayinge: after thys maner dyd thy seruaunte to me, he waxed wrooth. ²⁰ And he toke Ioseph & put him in preson: euen in the place where the kinges prisoners laye bounde. And there continued he in preson,

²⁰ And Ahab sayd to Eliah: hast thou founde me thine enemy at any time? and he saide: ye, because thou art vtterly geuen to worcke wyckednesse in the syghte of the lord.

⁹ Be not hastelye angrye in thy mynde, for wrath resteth in the bosome of a foole.

²⁶ Be angrye, but synne not, let not the sunne go doune vpon your wrath, ²⁷ neyther geue place vnto the backebyter.

³ And the Lorde gate the people fauour in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreouer Moses was very greate in the Lande of Egypt: both in the syght of Pharao & also in the syght of the people.

¹² And Iehosaphat sayde: the worde of the Lorde is wyth hym. And so the kinge of Israel, and Iehosaphat and the kynge of Edom went doune to him. ¹³ And Elizeus sayde to the kynge of Israel: what haue I to do with the? Get the to the prophetes of thy father and of thy mother. And the kyng of Israel sayd vnto hym: Oh naye, but hath the lord called these thre kynges to delyuer them into the handes of the Moabites?

²¹ And then sayde the kynge of Israel vnto Eliseus when he sawe them: shall I smyte them, shall I smyte them father:

¹⁴ When Eliseus was fallen sicke of the sicknesse whereof he dyed, Ioas kynge of Israell came to him, and wepte to him, & sayde: O father father the charet of Israel & the horsmen of the same.

² And Iehoas dyd that pleased the Lorde all the dayes of Iehoiada that preste.

¹⁵ And Iehoiada waxed olde and full of yeres and dyed. An hundred and thirty yere olde was he when he dyed. ¹⁶ And they buryed him in the citie of Dauid amonge the kynges because he had done good in Israel, & on God and on his house. ¹⁷ And after the death of Iehoiada, came the Lordes of Iuda and made obeysaunce to the kynge. And then he herkened vnto them. ¹⁸ And so they lefte the house of the Lorde God of theyr fathers, and serued groues and Images. And then came there wrath vpon Iuda and Ierusalem, for thys theyr trespaces sake. ¹⁹ Not wythstandynge yet God sent Prophetes to them, to brynge them agayne vnto the Lorde. And they testifyed vnto them. But they woulde not heare. ²⁰ And the spirite of God came vpon Zachariah the sonne of Iehoiada the preste, and he stept vp aboue the people and sayde to them. Thus sayth God: why transgresse ye the commaundementes of the Lorde? ye shall therfore not prospere, but as ye haue forsaken hym, so shal he forsake you ²¹ Wherupon they conspired agaynst hym and stoned hym with stones, at the commaundement of the kynge: euen in the courte of the house of the Lord. ²² And so Iehoas the kynge remembred not the kyndenes which Iehoiada his father had done to hym, but slue his sonne. And when he dyed, he sayde: the Lorde se and require a reconynge.

⁵ And he soughte God, whyle Zachariah the teacher to se God lyued: and as longe as he sought the Lorde, God made him prospere.

¹² Then beleued they in his worde, and sang prayse vnto hym. ¹³ But within a whyle they forgat his workes, and wold not abyde his councel.

⁵ that whether they be obedyent or no (for it is a frowarde housholde) they maye knowe yet that there hath bene a Prophet amonge them. ⁶ Therfore (thou sonne of man) feare them not, nether be afrayed of their wordes: for they shall rebell agaynst the, and despyse the. Yee thou shalt dwell amonge scorpions: but feare not their wordes, be not abashed at their lokes, for it is a frowarde housholde. ⁷ Se that thou speake my wordes vnto them, whether they be obedyent or not, for they are obstynate.

³² And as a balet that hath a swete tune, and is pleasaunt to synge, so shalte thou be vnto them: thy wordes shall they heare, but they wil not do thereafter.

¹⁸ Thys is the dreame, that I kynge Nabuchodonosor haue sene. Therfore O Balthasar, tell thou me, what it sygnyfyeth: for so muche as the wyse men of my kyngdome are not able to shewe me, what it meaneth. But thou canst do it, for the spryte of the holy Goddes is in the.

²⁷ Wherfore, O Kyng, be content with my councel, that thou mayeste lowse thy synnes wyth ryghtuousnesse, and thyne offences with mercye to poore people: for suche thynges shall prolonge thy peace.

¹⁷ Daniel aunswered, and sayde before the kynge. As for thy rewardes, kepe them to thy selfe, or geue thy ryche gyftes to another: yet not the lesse, I wyll rede the wrytynge vnto the kynge, and shewe hym the interpretacion therof.

⁵ And when he would haue put him to deth, he feared the people, because they counted hym as a Prophet.

²⁶ But and yf we shall saye of men, then feare we the people. For all men helde Iohn as a Prophete.

¹⁶ And lykewyse they that are sowen on the stonye grounde, are they which when they haue hearde the worde, atonce receyue it with gladnes,

¹⁸ And the Scrybes & hye Priestes hearde it: and soughte howe to destroy him. For they feared hym, because al the people marueyled at his doctrine.

³⁵ He was a burninge and a shyninge lyght and ye woulde for a season haue reioysed in his lyght:

⁴¹ And Esau hated Iacob, bicause of the blessyng that hys father blessed hym with all, & sayed in hys hert. The dayes of my fathers sorowes are at hand, for I wyll slea my brother Iacob.

²⁰ And it came to passe the thyrde day which was Pharaos byrth daye, that he made a feast vnto all hys seruauntes. And he lyfted vp the head of the chefe buttelar and of the chefe baker amonge his seruauntes.

²³ And it happened two yeare after that Absalom had a shepesheryng in Baal Hazor besydes the trybe of Ephraim, & bad all the kynges sonnes, ²⁴ & he came to the kinge & saide: beholde thy seruaunt hath a shepesheryng, let the kyng & hys seruauntes come with thy seruaunt. ²⁵ And the kyng sayd vnto Absalom: Oh nay my sonne, let vs not go euerye one of vs that we be not chargeable vnto the. And Absalom laye sore vpon hym: howe be it he wolde not go, but blessed hym. ²⁶ Then sayd Absalom: then let my brother Amnon go wyth vs. And the kynge aunswered what nedeth it that he go with the ²⁷ But Absalom made such instaunce that he let Amnon go wyth hym, & al the kynges chyldren. ²⁸ Then Absalom commaunded hys younge men sayinge: marke when Amnons herte is mery wyth wyne, & when I byd you smyte Amnon then kyll him: feare not, for it is I that byd you, be bolde therfore, & playe the lustye bloudes. ²⁹ And the young men of Absalom serued Amnon euen as Absalom commaunded them. And al the kynges sonnes arose & toke eche man hys Mule & fled.

³ in the thyrde yeare of hys raygne, he made a feaste vnto all his princes and seruauntes, namely vnto the myghty men of Persia and Media, to the captaynes and rulers of hys countrey ⁴ that he might shewe the noble riches of hys kyngdome, and the gloryous worshippe of his greatnesse, many dayes longe, euen an hundreth and foure skore dayes. ⁵ And when these dayes were expired, the kinge made a feaste vnto all the people that were in the castel of Susan, bothe vnto great and small, seuen dayes longe in the courte of the garden by the kynges palace, ⁶ were there hanged whyte, reed and yalowe clothes, fastened wyth coardes of lynnen and scarlet in syluer rynges, vpon pylers of Marble stone. The benches were of goulde and syluer made vpon a pauement of grene, whyte, yalow, and black Marble. ⁷ And the drynke was caried in vessels of goulde, & there was euer chaunge of vessell. And the kinges wine was muche accordinge to the power of the kynge.

¹⁸ And the kinge made a great feaste vnto all hys prynces and seruauntes (whyche feaste was because of Esther) and let the landes be in quyetnes, & gaue royall gyftes.

⁷ In the fyrste moneth (that is the monethe Nisan) in the twelueth yeare of kynge Ahasuerus they cast Phur (that is a lot) before Haman, on what day & what moneth this should be done: & it went oute the twelueth monethe that is the moneth Adar.

¹² The vngodly layeth wayte for the iust, & gnassheth vpon him with his tethe. ¹³ But the Lord laugheth him to scorne, for he seyth that his daye is commyng.

⁴ O Lamuel, geue kynges no wyne, geue kynges & princes no strong drincke: ⁵ lest they beyng dronken forget the law, & regarde not the cause of the poore, and of al such as be in aduersite.

¹ Kynge Balthazar made a greate bancket to his thousand Lordes: with all these thousand he made great chere, ² & when he was droncken with wyne, he commaunded to brynge hym the golden and syluer vessels, whiche his father Nabuchodonosor had taken oute of the temple at Ierusalem, that the king and hys lordes with hys quene and concubynes might drincke thereoute. ³ So they broughte the golden vessell, that was taken oute of the temple of the Lordes house at Ierusalem. Then the kynge and hys lordes with his quene & concubynes droncke oute of them. ⁴ They droncke wyne, and praysed theyr Idoles of golde, syluer, copper, yron woodde and stone.

⁵ Euen so goeth it thys day with oure kinges & princes, for they beginne to be wodde droncken thorowe wine, they vse familarite with suche as disceyue him.

² And he killeth Iames the brother of Iohn wt the swearde ³ and because he sawe that it pleased the Iewes he proceaded forther, and toke Peter also. Then were the dayes of swete bread. ⁴ And when he had caught hym, he put hym in pryson, & deliuered hym to .iiij. quaternions of soudyers to be kept, entendynge after Easter to bryng hym forth to the people.

³ For it is sufficient for vs, that we haue spent the time that is past of the lyfe, after the wil of the Gentiles, walking in wantonnes, lustes, dronckennes, in eatinge, drinkinge & in abominable Idolatrie.

¹⁰ And they that dwell vpon the earth, shall reioyse ouer them and be glad, and shal sende gyftes one to another for these two prophetes vexed them that dwelt on the earth.

¹⁰ And on the seuenth daye when the kynge was mery of the wine, he commaunded Mehuman, Bartha, Harbona, Bagatha, Abagatha, Zathar & Carcas, the seuen chamberlaynes (that dyd seruice in the presence of king Ahasuerus) ¹¹ to fetche the quene Vasthi, wt the crowne regal, that he myght shewe the people and princes her fairnesse: for she was bewtiful. ¹² But the quene Vasthi woulde not come at the kynges worde by his chamberlaynes. Then was the kinge very wroth, and his indignacion kindled in him.

¹⁶ Moreouer thus sayth the Lorde: Seynge the doughters of Sion are become so proude, and come in with stretched oute neckes, and with vayne wanton eyes: seynge they come in tryppynge so nycely with their fete: ¹⁷ Therfore shall the Lorde shaue the heades of the doughters of Syon, and make theyr bewtye bare in that daye. ¹⁸ In that daye shall the Lord take awaye the gorgyousnes of theyr apparel & spanges, chaynes, parlaftes, ¹⁹ and colares, bracelettes & hooues, ²⁰ the goodly floured wide & broderd rayment, brusshes & headebandes, ²¹ rynges and garlandes, ²² holye daye clothes & vales, kerchues & pynnes, ²³ glasses & smockes, bonettes and taches. ²⁴ And in steade of good smell there shalbe styncke amonge them. And for theyr gyrdles there shalbe louse bandes. And for well set hearre there shalbe baldnesse. In steade of a stomacker, a sackclothe, and for theyr bewtye wytherydnesse & sunneburninge. ²⁵ Their housbandes and theyr myghtye men shall perysh with the swerde in batell. ²⁶ At that time shal their gates mourne & complayne, and they shall sitte as desolate folck vpon the earth.

³ Then sayde the Kynge vnto her: What wylt thou quene Esther? and what requyrest thou? aske euen the halfe of the empyre, and it shalbe geuen the.

⁶ the kyng said vnto Esther at the bancket of wyne: Esther what is thy peticion? and it shalbe geuen the. And what requyrest thou? Yf it be euen the halfe of the empyre, it shalbe done.

² the king sayde vnto Esther on the second day at the bancket of wyne: what is thy petycyon quene Esther, that it may be geuen the. And what requyrest thou? Yea, aske euen halfe of the empyre, & it shalbe done.

² yet thou art bound with thyne owne wordes, & taken wt thine owne speache.

⁹ & said to him: al these wyl I geue the, if thou wilt fall doune & worshyppe me.

³⁴ But I saye vnto you, swere not at al, neither by heauen, for it is Goddes seate: ³⁵ nor yet by the earth, for it is his fotstole: neither by Ierusalem for it is the citye of the great kinge ³⁶ neither shalt thou sweare by thy head, because thou canst not make one whyte hear, or blacke. ³⁷ But your communicacion shalbe, yea, yea: nay, nay. For whatsoeuer is more than that cometh to euell.

⁷ Wherefore he promysed with an othe, that he woulde geue her whatsoeuer she woulde axe.

⁸ Now therfore my sonne heare my voice in that whiche I commaunde the: ⁹ gette the to the flocke, & bryng me thence two good kyddes, and I wyll make meate of them for thy father, such as he loueth. ¹⁰ And thou shalt brynge it to thy father, & he shall eate, that he may blesse the before hys death. ¹¹ Then said Iacob to Rebecca his mother: beholde, Esau my brother is rough, & I am smooth.

³ And he walked also in the wayes of the house of Ahab, for his mother was his counseler for to do euill. ⁴ Wherfore he did that displeased the lorde like the house of Ahab for they were his counselers after the death of his father, to his destruccion. And he also walked after their counsel.

³¹ Yet they of mine owne housholde saye: who shall let vs to haue oure belly full of hys fleshe?

² Therfore when the wycked, euen myne enemies and my foes, came vpon me, to eate vp my flesh, stombled and fell.

⁸ And she beynge informed of her mother before sayd: geue me here Ihon Baptistes head in a platter.

And thys was the offeryng of Nathanael the sonne of Zuar. ²⁴ The thyrde daye, Eliab the sonne of Helon the chefest among the chyldren of Zabulon, brought hys offerynge. ²⁵ And hys offerynge was, a siluer charger of an hundred and .xxx. sicles weyghte, and a syluer boule of .lxx. sycles of the holy sicle, & both ful of fine floure myngled with oyle for a meatofferyng: ²⁶ and a golden spone of .x. sicles full of cens: ²⁷ and an oxe and a ram and a lambe of a yere olde for burntofferynges, ²⁸ and an he goote for a synofferyng: ²⁹ and for peaceofferynges .ij. oxen .v. rammes .v. he gootes and .v. lambes of one yere olde. And this was the offeryng of Eliab the sonne of Helon. ³⁰ The fourth day, Elizur the sonne of Sedeur, chefe Lord among the chyldren of Ruben broughte his offerynge. ³¹ And his gyfte was: a siluer charger of an hundred and .xxx. sycles weyght, and a syluer boule of .lxx. sycles of the holy sycle, & both ful of fyne flour myngled with oyle for a meatofferyng: ³² and a golden spone of .x. sycles full of cens: ³³ and a bullock, a ram & a lambe of a yere olde for burntofferynges, ³⁴ & an he goote for a synofferynge: ³⁵ and for peaceofferynges .ij. oxen .v. rammes .v. he gootes and .v. lambes. of one yere olde. And thys was the offerynge of Elizur the sonne of Sedeur. ³⁶ The fyfth day, Selumiel the sonne of Zuri Sadai, chefe Lord among the chyldren of Symeon, offred, ³⁷ whose gyfte was: a syluer charger of an hundred & .xxx. sycles weyght: and a syluer boule of .lxx. sicles of the holy sycle: & both full of fyne floure myngled wyth oyle for a meatofferyng: ³⁸ & a golden spone of .x. sycles ful of cens. ³⁹ And a bullock, a ram & a lambe of a yere old for burntoffrynges, ⁴⁰ & an he goote for a synofferyng: ⁴¹ and for peaceofferynges .ij. oxen .v. rammes .v. he gootes & .v. lambes of a yere old. And this was the offeryng of Selumiel the sonne of Suri Saday. ⁴² The sixte day, Eliasaph the sonne of Deguel the chefe Lord amonge the chyldren of Gad, offered: ⁴³ whose gifte was, a syluer charger of an hundred and .xxx. sycles weyghte: and a syluer boule of .lxx. sycles of the holye sycle: & both ful of fyne floure myngled with oyle for a meatofferyng: ⁴⁴ and a golden spone of .x. sycles ful of cens. ⁴⁵ And an oxe, a ram & a lambe of a yere olde for burntofferinges, ⁴⁶ & an he goote for a synoffering. ⁴⁷ And for peaceofferynges two oxen .v. rammes .v. he gootes & .v. lambes of one yere olde. And this was the offerynge of Eliasaph the sonne of Deguel. ⁴⁸ The seuenth daye, Elisama the sonne of Amiud, the chefe Lord of the children of Ephraim, offered. ⁴⁹ And his gifte was: a syluer charger of an hundred and .xxx. sycles weyght: & a syluer boule of .lxx. sicles of the holy sicle: & both ful of fyne floure myngled with oyle for a meatofferyng: ⁵⁰ and a golden spone of .x. sicles, full of cens. ⁵¹ And a bullock, a ram & a lambe of a yere olde for burntofferynges, ⁵² & an he goote for a synofferyng: ⁵³ and for peaceofferinges .ij. oxen .v. rammes .v. he gootes & .v. lambes of a yere olde. And this was the offeryng of Elisama the sonne of Amiud. ⁵⁴ The .viij. daye, offered Gamaliel the sonne of Pedazur, the chefe Lord of the chyldren of Manasse. ⁵⁵ And hys gyfte was: a syluer charger of an hundred & .xxx. sycles weyght: and a syluer boule of .lxx. sycles of the holy sicle: & both ful of fyne floure myngled with oyle for a meatofferyng: ⁵⁶ and a golden spone of .x. sycles, full of cens. ⁵⁷ And a bullock, a ram and a lambe of a yere olde for burntofferynges, ⁵⁸ and an he goote for a synofferynge: ⁵⁹ & for peaceofferynges two oxen .v. rammes, fyue he gootes and fyue lambes of a yere olde. And thys was the offeryng of Gamaliel the sonne of Pedazur. ⁶⁰ The .ix. daye, Abidan the sonne of Gedeoni the chefe lord among the children of Beniamin offered. ⁶¹ And hys gyfte was: a siluer charger of an hundred and .xxx. sycles weyght: and a syluer boule of .lxx. sycles, of the holy sicle, & both full of fyne floure myngled wyth oyle for a meatofferyng: ⁶² and a golden spone of .x. sycles, full of cens: ⁶³ and a bullock, a ram and a lambe of one yere olde for burntofferynges: ⁶⁴ and an he goote for a synofferyng: ⁶⁵ & for peaceofferynges two oxen .v. rammes .v. he gootes and .v. lambes of one yere olde. And thys was the offerynge of Abidan the sonne of Gedeoni. ⁶⁶ The .x. daye, Ahiezer the sonne of Ammi, Sadai, chefe Lorde among that chyldren of Dan offered. ⁶⁷ And hys gyfte was: a syluer charger of an hundred & .xxx. sycles weight: a syluer boule of seuentye sycles of the holy sycle: and both full of fyue floure myngled with oyle for a meatofferynge: ⁶⁸ and a golden spone of .x. sycles ful of cens: ⁶⁹ and a bullock, a rame and a lambe of a yere olde for burntofferynges, ⁷⁰ & an he goote for a synofferynge: ⁷¹ and for peaceofferynges two oxen .v. rammes, fyue he gootes & fyue lambes of a yere olde. And thys was the offryng of Ahiezer the sonne of Ammi Sadai. ⁷² The .xi. daye, Pagiel the sonne of Ocran the chefe Lorde amonge the chyldren of Aser offered. ⁷³ And hys gifte was: a siluer charger of an hundred and .xxx. sycles weyghte: a syluer boule of .lxx. sycles of the holye sycle and both full of fyne floure myngled wyth oyle for a meateofferynge: ⁷⁴ and a golden spone of .x. sycles, ful of cens. ⁷⁵ And a bullock, a ram and a lambe of one yere olde for burntofferynges ⁷⁶ and an he goote for a synneoffering: ⁷⁷ and for peaceofferinges: two oxen, fyue rammes .v. he gootes and .v. lambes of one yere olde. And thys was the offeryng of Pagiell the sonne of Ocran. ⁷⁸ The .xij. daye, Ahira the sonne of Enan, chefe Lord among the chyldren of Nephthali offered. ⁷⁹ And his gyfte was: a syluer charger of an hundred & .xxx. sycles weyght: a syluer boule of .lxx. sycles of the holye sycle, both full of fyne floure myngled wyth oyle for a meatofferynge: ⁸⁰ & a golden spone of twentye sycles, ful of cens. ⁸¹ And a bullock, a ram and a lambe of one yere olde for burntofferinges ⁸² and an he goote for a synneofferyng: ⁸³ and for peaceofferynges, two oxen .v. rammes .v. he gootes and .v. lambes of one yere olde. And thys was the offerynge of Ahira, the sonne of Enan. ⁸⁴ Of thys maner was the dedicacyon of the alter, when it was anoynted: vnto the whyche was broughte of the prynces of Israell .xij. chargers of syluer .xij. syluer boules and .xij. spones of golde: ⁸⁵ euery charger contaynynge an hundred and .xxx. sycles of syluer, & euery boule .lxx. so that al the syluer of all the vessels, was twoo thousande and .iiij. hundred sycles of the holy sycle. ⁸⁶ And the .xij. golden spones whych were full of cens, contayned ten sycles a pece of the holy sycle: so that all the golde of the spones, was an hundred and .xx. sycles. ⁸⁷ All the oxen that were broughte for the burntofferynges were .xij. and the rammes .xij. & the lambes .xij. of a yere old a pece, wyth the meateofferynges: wyth he gootes for synneofferynges. ⁸⁸ And al the oxen of the peaceofferynges were .xxiiij. the rammes .lx. the gootes .lx. and lambes of a yere olde a pece .lx. & thys was the dedicacyon of the alter, after that it was anoynted. ⁸⁹ And when Moses was gone in to the tabernacle of wytnesse to speke with hym, he harde the voyce of one speakyng vnto him from of the mercyseate that was vpon the arck of wytnesse: euen from betwene the two cherubyns he spake vnto hym.

¹⁶ For their fete runne to euel, & are hasty to shed bloud.

¹⁵ Theyr fete are swyfte to sheed bloude.

⁹ And the king sorowed. Neuertheles for hys othe sake, & for theyr sakes that satte at also at the table, he commaunded it to be geuen her:

³ Then when Iudas whiche betrayed him, saw that he was condemned, he repented him selfe, and brought agayne the .xxx. plates of syluer to the chiefe priestes and elders ⁴ saying: I haue synned betrayinge the innocent bloud. And they sayde: what is that to vs? Se thou to that. ⁵ And he caste doune the syluer plates in the temple, and departed, and wente, and honge hym selfe.

²⁴ When Pilate sawe that he preuayled nothyng but the more busynes was made, he toke water and washed his handes before the people sayinge I am innocent of the bloude of this iust persone, or on your perille be it. ²⁵ Then aunswered al the people & sayed, his bloude be on vs and on oure children.

¹⁰ and sent & beheaded Ihon in the pryson, ¹¹ and hys headde was brought in a platter and geuen to the damsel, and she brought it to her mother.

²⁹ And he toke vp the bodye of the man of God, and put it vpon the asse, and brought it agayne, & came to the cytye of the olde Prophete to lament him, and to burye hym. ³⁰ And he layde hys bodye in hys owne graue, and lamented ouer hym, Oh my brother.

⁵⁷ When the euen was come, there came a riche man of Aramathia named Ioseph, which same also was Iesus disciple. ⁵⁸ He wente to Pilate and begged the bodye of Iesus, Then Pilate commaunded the body to be deliuered. ⁵⁹ And Ioseph toke the body, & wrapped it in a cleane linnen cloth, ⁶⁰ & put it in his newe tombe: which he had hewen out, euen in the rocke and rolled a great stone to the dore of the sepulchre and departed.

² Then deuout men dressed Stephan, & made great lamentation ouer hym.

² The names of the .xij. Apostles are these. The fyrst Simon called also Peter: and Andrewe his brother. Iames the sonne of Zebede, and Iohn his brother:

⁷ And he called the .xij. and began to sende them, two and two, and gaue them power ouer vncleane spirites. ⁸ And commaunded them, that they should take nothinge vnto their iorney saue a rod onely: Neyther scrippe, neither bread, neither money in their pourses: ⁹ but shoulde be shood wyth sandals. And that they should not put on two cootes. ¹⁰ And he sayde vnto them: wheresoeuer ye enter into an house, there abide till ye departe thence. ¹¹ And whosoeuer shal not receyue you nor heare you, when ye departe thence, shake of the dust: that is vnder your fete, for a witnesse vnto them. I say verely vnto you, it shalbe easier for Zodome and Gomoree at the daye of iudgement, then for that citie. ¹² And they went out and preached, that thei should repent: ¹³ and they cast out many deuils. And they anointed many that were sicke with oyle and healed them.

¹³ And assone as it was daye, he called his disciples, and of them he chose .xij. whiche also he called Apostles:

¹⁰ And the Apollels retourned, and told him what great thinges thei had done. And he toke them and wente a syde into a solitary place nye to a cytye called Bethsayda.

⁵ And the Apostles sayed vnto the Lorde: encrease oure fayth.

¹⁴ And when the houre was come, he sate doune and the twelue Apostles with him.

¹⁰ It was Mary Magdalene, and Ioanna, and Mary Iacobi, and other that were with them which tolde these thinges vnto the Apostles,

¹ In the former treatyse (deare frende Theophilus) I haue written of all that Iesus beganne to do and teache, ² vntyll the day in whyche he was taken vp after that he, through the holy ghost, had geuen commaundementes vnto the Apostles whiche he had chosen:

²⁶ And they gaue forth theyr lottes, and the lot fell on Mathias, and he was counted with the eleuen Apostles.

¹⁸ And when they were come to hym, he sayde vnto them. Ye knowe from the fyrste daye that I came into Asia, after what maner I haue ben with you at al ceasons ¹⁹ seruynge the Lorde with all humblenes of mynde, and with many teares, and temptacyons whiche happened to me by the laiynges awayte of the Iewes, ²⁰ and howe I kept backe nothyng that was profytable, but that I haue shewed you, and taughte you openlye, and at home in your houses, ²¹ wytnessyng both to the Iewes, and also to the Grekes, the repentaunce towarde God and fayth towarde oure Lorde Iesus.

¹² Let no man despyse thy youthe: but be vnto them that beleue, an ensample, in worde in conuersacyon, in loue, in spyryte, in fayth & in purenes. ¹³ Tyll I come, geue attendaunce to reading to exhortacyon and to doctryne. ¹⁴ Despyse not the gyfte that is in the, whiche was geuen the thorow Prophesye, and wyth layinge on of the handes of an elder. ¹⁵ These thynges exercyse, and geue thy selfe vnto them, that it maye be sene howe thou profytest in all thynges. ¹⁶ Take hede vnto thy selfe and vnto learnyng, and contynue therein. For yf thou shalte so do, thou shalte saue thy selfe and them that heare the.

⁶ Young men lykewyse exhort that they be sobre mynded. ⁷ Aboue all thynges shewe thy selfe an ensample of good workes wyth vncorrupt doctryne wyth honesty,

² se that ye fede Christes flocke, which is amonge you, takinge the ouersight of them, not as though ye were compelled therto, but wyllingly, not for the desire of fylthy lucre, but of a good minde, ³ not as though ye were Lordes ouer the parishes, but that ye be an ensample to the flocke.

¹³ When Iesus heard that, he departed thence by shypp into a deserte place out of the waye. And when the people had hearde therof, they folowed him a fote out of theyr cities.

⁷ And Iesus auoyded with hys disciples to the sea. And a great multitude folowed him from Galile, and from Iurie,

²⁰ & the people assembled together agayne, so greately that they had not leasure so much as to eate bread.

¹ After these thynges Iesus went his way ouer the sea of Galyle, nye to a cytye called Tyberias.

¹³ When Iesus heard that, he departed thence by shypp into a deserte place out of the waye. And when the people had hearde therof, they folowed him a fote out of theyr cities. ¹⁴ And Iesus went forth and sawe muche people, & hys herte did melte vpon them, & he healed of theim those that were sicke. ¹⁵ When euen was come, hys disciples came to hym saying: Thys is a desert place, and the daye is spent: let the people departe, that thei may go in to the townes & bye them vitayles. ¹⁶ But Iesus sayde vnto them. They haue no nead to go away, Geue ye them to eate. ¹⁷ Then sayde they vnto hym: we haue here but .v. loues & .ij. fishes. ¹⁸ And he sayed brig them hither to me. ¹⁹ And he commaunded the people to sit doune on the grasse: and toke the .v. loues and the .ij. fishes, and loked vp to heauen, and blessed, and brake and gaue the loues to his disciples, & the disciples gaue them to the people. ²⁰ And they did all eate, & were suffised. And they gathered vp the gobbets that remayned .xij. basketsful. ²¹ And they that eate, were in numbre about .v.M. men beside women and chyldren.

⁹ And he commaunded hys disciples, that a shypp shoulde wayte on hym, because of the people, leste they shoulde throunge him.

³⁶ And they lefte the people and toke hym euen as he was in the shyppe. And there were also with hym other shyppes.

⁴⁵ And strayghtwaye he caused his disciples to go into the ship, and to goo ouer the water before vnto Bethsaida, whyle he sent away the people.

They sayde seuen. ⁶ And he commaunded the people to sit doune on the grounde. And he toke the seuen loues, gaue thankes, brake, & gaue to his disciples to set before them. And they did set them before the people. ⁷ And they had a few small fishes. And he blessed them and commaunded them also to be set before them: ⁸ And they ate and were suffised. And they toke vp of the broken meate that was left seuen baskettes full. ⁹ And they that eate were in numbre about foure thousande. And he sent them awaye.

And they sayde: We haue nomore but fyue loues and two fyshes, excepte we should goo & by meate, for al this people. ¹⁴ And they were about a fyue thousande men. And he sayd to his discyples: Cause them to syt doune by fyftyes in a company. ¹⁵ And they dyd so, and made them all syt doune. ¹⁶ And he toke the fiue loues and the two fishes, and loked vp to heauen: and blessed them, and brake, and gaue to the discyples, to set before the people. ¹⁷ And they eate, and were all satisfyed. And there was taken vp of that remained of them, twelue baskettes full of broken meate.

There was much grasse in the place. And the men sate doune, in numbre, about fyue thousande. ¹¹ And Iesus toke the bread and gaue thankes, and gaue to the disciples, and his disciples to them that were set doune. And likewise of the fyshes as much as they would. ¹² When they had eaten ynough, he said vnto his disciples: gather vp the broken meate that remayneth: that nothinge be lost: ¹³ And they gathered it together and fylled twelue baskettes with the broken meate, of the fyue barly loues and two fyshes which broken meate remained vnto them that had eaten.

²⁹ Then Iesus went awaye from thence, and came vnto the sea of Galile, and went vp into a mountaine, and sate doune there. ³⁰ And much people came vnto him, hauynge with them, halt, blynd, domme, maymed, and other many: and cast them doune at Iesus fete. And he healed them, ³¹ in so muche that the people wondred to se the domme speake, the maymed whole, the halt to go, and the blynde to se, And they glorified the God of Israel.

⁵⁴ And assone as they were come out of the ship, strayght they knewe hym, ⁵⁵ and ran forth thorowout all the region round about, and began to cary aboute in beddes all that were sicke, to the place where they herde tell he was.

² And a great multitude folowed hym, because they had sene his miracles which he did on them that were diseased.

¹⁹ Wherfore deare brethren, let euerye man be swyfte to heare, slowe to speake, and slow to wrath.

¹⁷ which may go in and out before them, & to lead them in & out that the congregation of the Lord be not as a flocke of shepe without a shepeheard.

¹⁷ Then he sayde: I sawe all Israell scattered vpon the hylles, as shepe that haue no shepardes. And the Lorde sayde: those haue no mayster, let them returne, euery man to hys house in peace.

¹⁶ Then he sayd: I se al Israel skatered in the mountaines, as shepe that haue no shepard. And the Lorde sayde: these haue no mayster, let them returne euery man to his house in peace.

¹ The spirite of the Lorde God is with me, for the Lorde hath annointed me, & sent me, to preache good tydinges vnto the poore, that I myght binde vp the wounded hertes, that I myght preach delyueraunce to the captyue, and open the preson to them that are bounde: ² that I myght declare the acceptable yeare of the Lorde, and the daye of the vengeaunce of oure God: that I myghte comforte al them that are in heauynesse, ³ that I might geue vnto them that mourne in Sion bewtye in the steade of ashes, ioyful oyntment for syghing, pleasaunt rayment for an heauy mynde: That they might be called excellente in ryghteousnesse, a plantinge of the Lord for hym to reioyce in.

⁶ My people hath bene a lost flocke, my shepherdes haue disceyued them, and haue made them go astraye vpon the hylles. They haue gone from the mountayne to the litle hyl, and forgotten their folde.

² For vayne is the answere of Idols. The sothsayers se lyes, & tel but vayn dreames: the comforthe that they geue, is nothinge worth. Therfore go they astraye lyke a flocke of shepe, & are troubled, because they haue no sheperde.

³⁶ But when he sawe the people, he had compassyon on them, because they were pyned awaye, and scattred abroad, euen as shepe hauinge no shepeherde.

³² Then Iesus called hys disciples to hym & sayd I haue compassion on the people, because they haue continued with me now .iij. dayes & haue nought to eate, and I wil not let them departe fasting, lest they perish in the waie.

² Let euery man please his neyghboure vnto his wealth and edifiynge. ³ For Christe pleased not hym selfe, but as it is writen: The rebukes of them whiche rebuke the, fell on me.

¹⁷ Wherfore in al thinges it became him to be made like vnto his brethren, that he myghte be mercyfull and a faythful hye prieste in thinges concerninge God, for to pourge the people synnes.

¹⁵ For we haue not an hye prieste, whiche can not haue compassion on our infirmities, but was in all pointes tempted, lyke as we are, but yet without sinne.

²³ And he gaue her neuer a woorde to aunswer. Then came to hym hys disciples, & besoughte hym saying: sende her away, for she foloweth vs criyng.

²² But Peter toke hym asyde, and beganne to rebuke hym saying: master fauer thy selfe: thys shall not come vnto the.

²¹ And when they that longed vnto hym hearde of it, they went out to holde him. For they thought he had bene besyde hym selfe.

³¹ And his disciples sayde vnto him: seist thou the people thruste the, and yet axest, who did touche me?

¹³ where shoulde I haue flesh to geue vnto al this people? For they wepe vnto me sayinge: geue vs fleshe that we maye eate.

²¹ And Moses saide: syxe hundred thousand fotemen are there of the people, among whiche I am. And thou hast sayde: I wyll geue them flesh and they shall eate a moneth longe. ²² Shal the shepe and the oxen be slayne for them to fynde them, ether shal al the fysh of the sea be gathered together to serue them? ²³ And the Lord sayd vnto Moses: is the Lordes hande waxed shorte. Thou shalt se whether my worde shall come to passe vnto the or not.

⁴² There came a man from Baalsalisa, and brought the man of God breade of fyrste frutes, euen twenty loues of barley, & new corne in a clothe he had. And Eliseus bade put it before the people that they myght eate. ⁴³ Then hys mynyster sayde: what shoulde I set thys before an hundred men? And he sayde: set it before the people and let them eate. For thus sayth the Lorde: they shall eate and leaue. ⁴⁴ And he set it before them, and they ate and lefte, accordynge to the worde of the Lorde.

⁵ & the meate of hys table, & the syttynge of hys seruauntes, and the standynge of hys seruytours & their apparell, & his buttelers, & hys sacrifyce that he offered in the house of the Lord, she was astonyed.

⁵ And when these dayes were expired, the kinge made a feaste vnto all the people that were in the castel of Susan, bothe vnto great and small, seuen dayes longe in the courte of the garden by the kynges palace, ⁶ were there hanged whyte, reed and yalowe clothes, fastened wyth coardes of lynnen and scarlet in syluer rynges, vpon pylers of Marble stone. The benches were of goulde and syluer made vpon a pauement of grene, whyte, yalow, and black Marble.

³⁵ And he commaunded the people to sit doune on the grounde:

³³ For God is not causer of strife, but of peace, as he is in all other congregations of the sainctes.

⁴⁰ And let al thynges be done honestlye and iu ordre.

¹⁴ And they were about a fyue thousande men. And he sayd to his discyples: Cause them to syt doune by fyftyes in a company. ¹⁵ And they dyd so, and made them all syt doune.

¹⁰ When thou haste eaten thereof and fylled thy selfe, then blesse the Lord for the good land which he hath geuen the.

¹³ When ye be come into the citie, so shall you fynd hym, yer he go vp to the hil to eate: for the people wyll not eate vntyll he come, because he must blesse the offeryng. And then eate they that be bidden to the feaste. Nowe therfore get you vp for euen now shal ye fynd hym.

¹⁹ And he commaunded the people to sit doune on the grasse: and toke the .v. loues and the .ij. fishes, and loked vp to heauen, and blessed, and brake and gaue the loues to his disciples, & the disciples gaue them to the people.

³⁶ and toke the seuen loues and the fishes, and gaue thankes, and brake them and gaue to hys disciples, & the disciples gaue them to the people.

²⁶ As they dyd eate, Iesus toke bread and gyue thankes, brake it and gaue it to the discyples and sayed: Take, eate, thys is my body.

³⁴ and loked vp to heauen, and sighted & sayde vnto him: Ephata, that is to say be opened.

¹¹ And Iesus toke the bread and gaue thankes, and gaue to the disciples, and his disciples to them that were set doune. And likewise of the fyshes as much as they would.

²³ How be it ther came other shyppes from Tiberias nye vnto the place wher they eate bread when the Lorde hath blessed.

⁴¹ Then they toke awaye the stone from that place where the dead was layde. And Iesus lyft vp hys eyes, and sayde: Father I thanke the because that thou haste hearde me.

¹ These wordes spake Iesus, & lyfte vp hys eyes to heauen, and said: father the houre is come: glorify thy sonne, that thy sonne maye glorifye the:

³⁵ And when he had thus spoken, he toke bread, and gaue thankes to God in presence of them all, and brake it, and began to eate.

⁶ He that obserueth one daye more then another, doth it for the Lordes pleasure. And he that obserueth not one day more then another, doeth it to please the Lorde also. He that eateth, doeth it to please the Lorde, for he geueth God thankes.

³¹ Whether therfore ye eate or drynke, or whatsoeuer ye do, do al to the praise of God.

¹⁷ And all thinges (whatsoeuer ye do in word or dede) do it in the name of the Lorde Iesu geuinge thankes to God the father by hym.

⁴ For all the creatures of God are good & nothynge to be refused, yf it be receyued with thankes geuynge. ⁵ For it is sanctifyed by the worde of God and prayer.

³ He humbled the and made the hongry and fedde the with Manna, whych neyther thou nor thy father knew of to make the know that a man must not lyue by breade onely: but by all that proceadeth out of the mouth of the Lord must a man liue.

¹⁵ The eyes of all wayte vpon the, and thou geuest them their meate in due season. ¹⁶ Thou openest thyne hande, and fyllest all thinges liuing with plenteousnesse.

³⁷ And they dyd all eate and were suffised. And they toke vp of the broken meate that was lefte .vij. baskettes full. ³⁸ And yet thei that eate were .iiij.M. men, beside women and chyldren.

¹⁷ And they eate, and were all satisfyed. And there was taken vp of that remained of them, twelue baskettes full of broken meate.

¹² When they had eaten ynough, he said vnto his disciples: gather vp the broken meate that remayneth: that nothinge be lost:

¹⁹ When I brake .v. loues among .v.M. How many baskettes ful of broken meate toke ye vp? They sayde vnto him twelue. ²⁰ When I brake seuen among .iiij. thousande. How many baskettes of the leuynges of broken meate toke ye vp? They sayde, seuen.

²¹ Wo be to the Chorasin. Wo be to the Bethzaida: for if the miracles which were shewed in you, had be done in Tyre and Sidon, they had repented longe agone in sackcloth and ashes.

²² And strayght way Iesus made hys disciples into a ship, & to go ouer before him while he sent the people away. ²³ And assone as he had sent the people away, he went vp into a mountayn alone to pray, & when night was come, he was there him self alone. ²⁴ And the ship was now in the middest of the sea, & was toste wt waues, for it was a contrary wynde. ²⁵ In the .iiij. watch of the night. Iesus came vnto them walking on the sea. ²⁶ And when his disciples sawe him walkinge on the sea, they were troubled, saying: it is some spirite, & cried out for feare. ²⁷ And straight way Iesus spake vnto them saing be of good cheare, it is I, be not afrayed. ²⁸ Peter aunswered him & saied: master: if thou be he, bid me come vnto the on the water. ²⁹ And he saide come. And when Peter was come doun out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Iesus. ³⁰ But when he saw a mighty wynd, he was afrayed. And as he began to synke, he cried saying: master, saue me. ³¹ And immediatly Iesus stretched forth his hande & caught him, & sayed to him. O thou litle fayth wherfore diddest thou doubt? ³² And assone as they were come into the ship, the wind ceased. ³³ Then they that were in the ship came & worshipped him sayng: of a truth thou art the sonne of God.

³² And he went by ship out of the wai into a desert place.

²² And he came to Bethsaida, & they brought a blynde man vnto him, and desired him to touche him.

And anone it was darke, and Iesus was not come to them. ¹⁸ And the sea arose wt a great winde that blewe. ¹⁹ And when they had rowen about a .xxv. or a .xxx. furlonges, they sawe Iesus walke on the sea, and drawe nye vnto the shippe and they were afrayed. ²⁰ And he sayde to them. It is I: be not afrayed. ²¹ Then would they haue receyued him into the shyppe, and the shyppe was by and by at the lande whither they wente.

⁶ But when thou prayest, entre into thy chamber, & shut thy dore to the, & praie to thi father which is in secrete: & thy father which seeth in secrete, shall rewarde the openlye.

²³ And assone as he had sent the people away, he went vp into a mountayn alone to pray, & when night was come, he was there him self alone.

³⁵ And in the mornyng very early, Iesus arose and went oute into a solytarye place, & there prayed.

¹² And it furtuned in those dayes that he went out into a mountaine for to praye, and contynued all night in prayer to God.

²¹ for here vnto verelye were ye called: for Christe also suffered for vs, leauynge vs an ensample that we shoulde folowe his steppes,

¹⁶ And when euen was come his disciples went vnto the sea ¹⁷ and entred into a shyppe and went ouer the sea vnto Capernaum. And anone it was darke, and Iesus was not come to them.

² And he sayde: Se Lordes, turne in I praye you in to youre seruauntes house and tary all nyghte and wash youre fete and ryse vp earlye and go on your wayes. And they sayde: nay, but we wyll byde in the streates all nyghte.

²⁶ And he said: let me goo, for the day breaketh. And he said: I wyll not lette the go, excepte thou blesse me.

²⁴ And in the mornynge watch, the Lorde loked vnto the hoste of the Egyptians out of the fiery and clowdy pyller, and troubled their hoste

¹¹ And on the morowe Saul put the people in thre partes. And they came in vpon the host in the morning watche, & slue the Ammonites, vntill the heat of the day. And they that remayned, shattered, so that two of them were not left together.

⁸ He him selfe alone spredeth out the heauens, and goeth vpon the waues of the see.

⁴ The waues of the sea are mightye, & rage horribly: but yet the Lorde that dwelled on hye, is mightier.

³ Thou voltest it aboue with waters, thou makest the cloudes thy charet, & goest vpon the wynges of the wynde.

¹¹ Beholde thou pore, vexed and despysed: I will make thy walles of precious stones, & thy foundacyon of Saphires,

²⁴ And the ship was now in the middest of the sea, & was toste wt waues, for it was a contrary wynde.

³⁸ And yf he come in the seconde watche, yea yf he come in the thyrd watche, and shal fynd them so: happye are those seruauntes.

²⁸ And they drue me vnto the toune which they wente to. And he made as though he woulde haue gone further?

¹³ & which were borne not of the bloude nor of the wyl of the flesh, nor yet of the wyll of man: but of God.

¹⁴ feare came vpon me and drede & made my bones to shake. ¹⁵ And when the wynd passed by before my presence it made the heares of my flesshe stande vp. ¹⁶ He stode there and I knew not his face, an ymage there was before me & there was stylnes, so that I heard thys voyce.

²⁵ In the .iiij. watch of the night. Iesus came vnto them walking on the sea. ²⁶ And when his disciples sawe him walkinge on the sea, they were troubled, saying: it is some spirite, & cried out for feare.

³⁷ And thei were abashed and afraied, supposynge that they had sene a spirite.

² When thou wentest in the water, I was by the, that the stronge floudes shuld not pluck the awaye. When thou walkest in the fyre, it shall not burne the, and the flame shall not kindle vpon the.

²⁷ And straight way Iesus spake vnto them saing be of good cheare, it is I, be not afrayed.

³⁸ And he sayde vnto them: Why are ye troubled, and why do thoughtes aryse in your hertes? ³⁹ Beholde my handes and & my fete, that it is euen my selfe. Handle me & se: for spyrytes haue not flesh and bones as ye se me haue. ⁴⁰ And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his handes and his fete. ⁴¹ And while they yet beleued not for ioye, and wondred, he said vnto them: haue ye here anye meate?

¹⁹ And when they had rowen about a .xxv. or a .xxx. furlonges, they sawe Iesus walke on the sea, and drawe nye vnto the shippe and they were afrayed. ²⁰ And he sayde to them. It is I: be not afrayed.

¹⁹ The same day at night, which was the morowe after the saboth day, when the dores wer shut, wher the disciples were assembled together for fear of the Iewes, came Iesus and stode in the myddes, and saide to them: peace be wyth you. ²⁰ And when he had so sayed, he shewed vnto them his handes, and hys syde. Then were the dyscyples glade when they sawe the Lorde.

³ The floudes aryse (O Lorde) the floudes lyft vp their noyse, the floudes lyfte vp theyr waues. ⁴ The waues of the sea are mightye, & rage horribly: but yet the Lorde that dwelled on hye, is mightier.

²⁸ So they crye vnto the Lorde in their trouble, and he delyuereth them oute of their distresse. ²⁹ He maketh the storme to ceasse, so that the waues are styll. ³⁰ Then are they glad because they be at rest & so he bringeth them vnto the hauen, where they wolde be.

²⁶ And he sayed vnto them: why are ye fearfull, O ye of lytle fayth? Then he arose, and rebuked the wyndes and the sea, and there folowed a great calme. ²⁷ And the men maruayled and sayed: what man is this, that both wyndes and sea obey hym?

²⁸ Peter aunswered him & saied: master: if thou be he, bid me come vnto the on the water. ²⁹ And he saide come. And when Peter was come doun out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Iesus. ³⁰ But when he saw a mighty wynd, he was afrayed. And as he began to synke, he cried saying: master, saue me. ³¹ And immediatly Iesus stretched forth his hande & caught him, & sayed to him. O thou litle fayth wherfore diddest thou doubt? ³² And assone as they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.

²⁷ And they were al amased, in so muche that they demaunded one of another, amonge them selues saying: what thyng is thys? what newe doctryne is this? For he commaundeth the foule spirites with power, and they obeye hym.

¹² And by and by he arose, toke vp the bedde, & wente forthe before them all: in so muche that they were all amased, and glorifyed God sayinge: we neuer saw it on thys fasshyon.

³⁹ And he rose vp, and rebuked the wynd and sayed vnto the sea: peace and be styll. And the wynde alayed, and there folowed a great calme.

⁴¹ And they feared excedynglye, and sayed one to another: What felowe is thys. For both wynde and sea obeye hym.

⁴² And streyght the mayden arose, and went on her fete. For she was of the age of twelue yeres. And thei were astonyed at it out of measur.

³⁷ and were beyonde measure astonyed, sayinge: He hath done all thinges well, and hath made both the deafe to heare & the domme to speake.

²⁴ And they went to him and awoke him saiyng: Maister Maister we are loste. Then he rose & rebuked the winde & the tempeste of the water, & they ceased, & it wexed calme. ²⁵ And he sayed vnto them: Wher is your faythe? They feared and woundered saiynge one to another, what felowe is this: for he commaundeth both the windes & water, & they obey him?

²¹ Then would they haue receyued him into the shyppe, and the shyppe was by and by at the lande whither they wente.

¹⁷ O Lord wherfore hast thou led vs out of thy waye? wherfore hast thou hardened our hertes, that we feare the not? Be at one with vs agayne, for thy seruauntes sake that are of the generacion of thine heretage.

⁹ Do ye not yet perceyue, neither remember those fyue loues when there were .v.M. men, & how many baskettes toke ye vp: ¹⁰ Neyther the seuen loues when there were .iiij. thousand, and how many baskettes toke ye vp? ¹¹ Why perceyue ye not then, that I spake not vnto you of bread, when I sayde: beware of the leuen of the Pharises and of the Saduces.

⁵ And he loked rounde aboute on them angerly, mournynge on the blindnes of theyr hertes, & said to the man: stretch forth thyne hand. And he stretched it out. And hys hande was restored euen as whole as the other.

¹⁸ And he sayde to them: Are ye so without vnderstanding. Do ye not yet perceyue that, whatsoeuer thinge from without entreth into a man it can not defile him,

¹⁷ And when Iesus knew that, he sayd vnto them: why take ye thought because ye haue no bread perceyue ye not yet, neyther vnderstande? Haue ye your hertes yet blynded? ¹⁸ Haue ye eyes and se not? and haue ye eares and heare not? Do ye not remember? ¹⁹ When I brake .v. loues among .v.M. How many baskettes ful of broken meate toke ye vp? They sayde vnto him twelue. ²⁰ When I brake seuen among .iiij. thousande. How many baskettes of the leuynges of broken meate toke ye vp? They sayde, seuen. ²¹ And he sayde vnto them: How is it that ye vnderstande not?

¹⁴ After that he appeared vnto the eleuen, as they sate at meat, and caste in theyr tethe theyr vnbelese and hardnes of hert: because they beleued not them which had sene hym after hys resurreccyon.

²⁵ And he sayed vnto them: O fooles and slowe of hert to beleue all that the Prophetes haue spoken.

⁷ What then? Israell hath not obtayned that, that he soughte. No but the electyon hath obtayned it. The remnaunte are blynded,

³⁴ And when thei were come ouer, they went into the land of Genesareth. ³⁵ And when the men of the place had knowlege of him, they sent out into all the country rounde about, & brought vnto him al that were sicke, ³⁶ & besoughte him, that thei migh touche the hemme of his vesture only, & as many as touched it were made safe.

¹ It came to passe as the people preased vpon him to heare the worde of God, that he stode by the lake of Genezareth:

²⁴ Then when the people sawe that Iesus was not there neyther his disciples, they also toke shyppinge and came to Capernaum sekinge for Iesus. ²⁵ And when they had found him on the other syde of the sea, they sayde vnto hym: Rabbi when camest thou hither?

¹⁰ Therfore they that know thy name, putte their trust in the: for thou (Lorde) neuer faylest them that seke the.

¹⁰ in knowinge him and the vertue of his resurreccion, & the fellowshippe of hys passyons, that I myghte be conformable vnto his death,

²⁴ And his fame sprede abrode through out all Siria. And they brought vnto him all sycke people that were taken with diuers diseases & gripinges, and them that were possessed with deuils and those which were lunatike, & those that had the palsie: & he healed them,

¹ After a feawe dayes, he entred into Capernaum agayne, & it was noysed that he was in a house ² And anone many gathered together, in so muche that now there was no rome to receyue them: no, not so much as about the dore. And he preached the worde vnto them. ³ And there came vnto hym that brought one sicke of the palsie, borne of foure men.

⁷ And Iesus auoyded with hys disciples to the sea. And a great multitude folowed him from Galile, and from Iurie, ⁸ and from Hierusalem, and from Idumea, and from beyonde Iordane, & they that dwelled aboute Tyre and Sydon, a great multitude: whiche when they had hearde what thynges he dyd came vnto hym. ⁹ And he commaunded hys disciples, that a shypp shoulde wayte on hym, because of the people, leste they shoulde throunge him. ¹⁰ For he had healed many, in so much that they preased vpon hym, for to touche hym as manye as had plages. ¹¹ And when the vncleane spirites sawe hym: they fell doune before hym, and cryed, sayinge: thou art the sonne of God

³⁸ speake vnto the children of Israell and byd them, that they make them gardes vpon the quarters of theyr garmentes thoroweoute theyr generations, and lette theym make the gardes of rybandes of Iacyncte. ³⁹ And the garde shall be vnto you to loke vpon it, that ye remembre all the commaundementes of the Lord and do them: that ye seke not a way after your owne hertes & after youre owne eyes, for to goo a whorynge after them:

¹² Thou shalt put rybandes vpon the .iiij. quarters of thy vesture wherewith thou couerest thy selfe.

²¹ And it chaunged as they were buryeng a man, that they spyed the soudyars, and therfore caste the man into the sepulchre of Elizeus. And as sone as the man came, and touched the bones of Elizeus, he reuyued, and stode vp on hys fete.

²⁰ And beholde, a woman which was diseased with an issue of bloude .xij. yeres, came behinde him and touched the hem of his vesture.

¹⁰ For he had healed many, in so much that they preased vpon hym, for to touche hym as manye as had plages.

²⁷ When she had herde of Iesus: she came into the preace behinde hym, and touched hys garment. ²⁸ For she thought: if I maye but touch his clothes, I shalbe whole.

¹⁹ And all the people preased to touche hym, for there wente vertue out of hym, and healed them all.

⁴⁴ came behinde him, and touched the heme of his garment and immediatlye her yssue of bloude staunched.

⁵¹ And Iesus aunswered and saide: Suffer ye thus farre forth. And he touched his eare and healed him.

⁹ if we thys day are examined of the good dede done to the sicke man by what meanes he is made whole:

¹² Neither is ther saluacion in any other. Nor yet also is there any other name geuen to men wherin we muste be saued.

¹⁵ in so much that they broughte the sycke into the stretes, & layed them on beddes and palettes, that at the leaste waye, the shaddowe of Peter when he came by, myght shadowe some of them.
