²³ And when he was come into the temple, the chiefe Priestes and the elders of that people came vnto hym as he was teachynge, and sayde. By what auctoritie doest thou these thynges and who gaue the thys power?

¹⁴ And he answered: who hathe made the a ruler or a iudge ouer vs? intendest thou to kyll me, as thou kylledst the Egyptian? Then Moyses feared and sayed: of a suretye the thynge is knowen.

¹ The deuision of the sonnes of Aaron, Nabad, Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. ² But Nabad & Abihu died before their father, & hath not chyldren. And Eleazar & Ithamar were the priestes. ³ And Dauid ordered them on this maner: Zadock of the sonnes of Eleazar and Ahimelek of the sonnes of Ithamar to be in office by course. ⁴ And there were mo myghtye heades found of the sonnes of Eleazar, then of the sonnes of Ithamar. And they deuided them into .xvi. heades of auncient housholdes of the sonnes of Eleazar, & eyght of the sonnes of Ithamar. ⁵ And they put them in order by lot, one wyth another, that there shoulde be rulers in the sanctuarye and Lordes before God as well of the sonnes of Ithamar, as of the sonnes of Eleazar. ⁶ And Semeiah the sonne of Nathaneel the Scribe of the Leuites wrote them before the kynge and the Lordes, and before Zadock the pryeste, and Ahimelek the sonne of Abiathar, & before the auncient heades of the priestes & of the Leuites: one principal houshould for Eleazar and one for Ithamar. ⁷ And the fyrst lot fell to Iehoiarib. The seconde to Iedaiah. ⁸ The thirde to Harim. The fourth to Seorim. ⁹ The fyft to Melchiah. The sixte to Miamin. ¹⁰ The seuenth to Hakes. The eyght to Abiah. ¹¹ The nynthe to Iesua. The tenth to Secaniah. ¹² The leuenth to Eliasib. The twelueth to Iakim. ¹³ The thirtene to Huphah. The fourtene to Isbaab. ¹⁴ The fyftene to Belgah. The syxtene to Emer. ¹⁵ The seuentene to Hezir. The eyghtene to Haphzez. ¹⁶ The nynetene to Pathahaiah. The twentye to Iehesekiel. ¹⁷ The twentie & one to Iacin. The .xxij. to Gamul. ¹⁸ The .xxiij. to Delaiahu. The .xxiiij. to Maasiahu. ¹⁹ This is the order of them in their offices, to come into the house of the Lord accordinge to their maner vnder Aaron their father, as the Lorde God of Israel commaunded.

⁵⁵ The same tyme sayde Iesus to the multitude: ye be come out as it were vnto a thief with sweardes and staues, for to take me. I sat daylye teachynge in the temple amonge you, and ye toke me not.

²⁷ And they came agayne to Hierusalem. And as he walked in the temple, there came to him the hye priestes and the Scribes & the elders, ²⁸ and sayed vnto hym: by what authoritie doest thou these thynges? And who gaue the thys authoritie to do these thynges? ²⁹ Iesus aunswered and sayed vnto them: I wyll also axe of you a certayne thynge: and aunswere ye me, and I wyll tell you by what authorite I do these thynges. ³⁰ The baptisme of Iohn was it from heauen, or of menne? Aunswere me. ³¹ And they thoughte in them selues, sayinge: yf we shall saye, from heauen: he wyl saye then: why dyd ye not beleue hym? ³² But yf we shall saye, of men, then feare we the people. For al men counted Iohn that he was a very Prophet. ³³ And they aunswered and sayd vnto Iesus: we can not tell. And Iesus aunswered and sayed vnto them, neyther wyll I tell you, by what authoritie I do those thynges.

⁴⁷ And he taught daily in the temple. The hye Priestes and the Scribes and the chiefe of the people wente about to destroye hym,

⁷ and set them before them, & axed: by what power or in what name haue ye done this syrs?

²⁷ But he that dyd his neighboure wronge, thrust him awaie sayinge: who made the a ruler and a iudge amonge vs?
