⁵⁹ The chiefe priestes and the elders, and all the counsell, sought false wytnes agaynst Iesus, for to put hym to death,

¹⁶ If an vnrighteous witnesse ryse agaynst a man to accuse him of trespace: ¹⁷ then let both the men which stryue together stande before the Lord, before the preastes and the iudges which shalbe in those dayes, ¹⁸ & let the iudges enquyre a good. And yf the witnesse be founde false and that he hath geuen false wytnesse agaynst his brother ¹⁹ then shal ye do vnto him as he had thought to do vnto his brother, & so thou shalt put euell awaye from the. ²⁰ And other shall heare & feare and shal henceforth comyt no more any soche wickednesse among you. ²¹ And let thyne eye haue no compassyon, but life for life, eye for eye, tothe for tothe, hande for hand and fote for fote.

⁸ And she wrote a letter in Ahabs name and sealed it wt hys seale, and sent it vnto the elders and chefe men of his cytie that dwelt where Naboth dwelt. ⁹ And she wrote in the letter sayinge: proclayme fastyng and set Naboth on hye among the people, ¹⁰ and set two vnthriftes before him: and let them testifye agaynst hym sayinge: thou dyddest curse bothe God and the king: & vpon that carie him out & stone hym to death. ¹¹ And the elders and nobles of the cities, whiche dwelt in hys citie, did as Iezabell had sent vnto them, and as it was written in the letter, whiche she had sent vnto them. ¹² They proclamed fastynge, and set Naboth an hye amonge the people, ¹³ and there came in two vnthriftye persones and sate before him. And the two vnthriftye persones wytnesseth agaynst Naboth before the people sayinge: Naboth dyd curse God and the kinge. And vpon the they caryed him out of the cytye and stoned him wyth stones to death.

¹² Delyuer me not into the wyles of myne aduersaryes, for there are false wytnesses risen vp against me, and they ymagyne myschyefe.

¹¹ False witnesses are rysen vp, and laye to my charge thinges that I know not. ¹² They rewarde me euell for good, too the great discomforte of my soule.

²⁰ Wilt thou haue any thing to do with the stoole of wickednesse, which ymagineth mischief in the lawe? ²¹ They gather them together agaynste the soule of the righteous, and condemne the innocent bloude.

¹⁸ Who so beareth false wytnesse agaynst hys neyghboure, he is a verye speare, a swearde, and a sharpe arowe.

²² but I sai vnto yow, whosoeuer is angre wt his brother without a cause shal be in daunger of iudgement. Whosoeuer saieth to his brother Racha, shalbe in daunger of a counsel. But whosoeuer saieth thou fole, shalbe in daunger of hel fire

⁵⁵ And the hye priestes, and al the counsell soughte for witnes againste Iesu to put him to death, & founde none. ⁵⁶ Yet manye bare false witnes againste him, but theyr witnes agreed not together.

Of whome thou mayest (yf thou wilt enquyre) knowe the certaintye of al these thynges, wherof we accuse hym. ⁹ The Iewes lykewyse affirmed, saiyng: that it was euen so. ¹⁰ Then Paule (after that the ruler him selfe had beckened vnto hym that he should speake) aunswered I shall with a more quyet mynde aunswere for my selfe, for as muche as I vnderstande that thou haste bene of manye yeares a iudge vnto thys people, ¹¹ because that thou mayest know that there are yet but .xij. dayes sence I wente vp to Ierusalem for to praye, ¹² & that they neyther founde me in the temple disputynge with anye man, eyther raysynge vp the people neither in the synagoges, nor in the citie. ¹³ Neyther can they proue the thynges wherof they accuse me.
