⁵ And let the offycers speake vnto the people sayinge: If any man haue buylt a new house and haue not dedicate it, let him go and returne to his house lest he dye in the battell, & another dedicate it.

³² And betwene the parloure of the corner vnto the shepegate builded the goldsmythes and the merchauntes.

¹ And when Sanabalat, Tobiah and Gesem the Arabian, and the other of oure enemyes hearde that I had buylded the wall, and that there were no mo gappes therein (howbeit at the same time had I not hanged the dores vpon the gates)

¹ Now when we had buylded the wal I hanged on the dores, and the porters syngers and Leuites were appoynted.

³⁰ And the priestes and Leuytes puryfyed them selues, and clensed the people, the gates and the wall.

³⁹ and to the porte of Ephraim, and to the oldegate, and to the Fyshgate, and to the tower of Hananeel, and to the tower of Meah, vntyll the shepegate. And in the presongate stode they styll,

²⁸ And one of the chyldren of Iehoiada the sonne of Eliasib the hye prieste, had made a contracte wyth Sanabalat the Horonite: but I chaced him from me.

¹ A Psalme and songe of the dedicatiou of the house of Dauid. I wyll magnifye the, O Lord, for thou hast set me vp, and not suffred my foes to triumphe ouer me.

⁶ In all thy wayes haue respecte vnto hym, & he shal ordre thy goinges.

⁹ Honour the Lord with thy substaunce, & with the firstlinges of all thyne encrease:

³⁸ Beholde the dayes come sayeth the Lorde, that the cytie of the Lord shalbe enlarged from the toure of Hananeel, vnto the gate of the corner wall.

¹⁰ Men shall go about the whole earth, as vpon a feld: from Gibea to Remnon, & from the south to Ierusalem. The shal be set vp, & inhabited in her place: from BenIamins porte, vnto the place of the first port, & vnto the corner porte, & from the tower of Hananeel, vnto the kinges wine presses.

² And ther is at Ierusalem by the slaughterhouse, a pole called in the Ebrue toung Bethesda, hauing .v. porches,

¹⁴ After that he buylt a wall without the cytye of Dauid on the west syde of Gihon in the broke & so forth to fysh gate & rounde aboute Ophel & brougt it vp of very a great heyght, & put capitaynes of warre in all the stronge cities of Iuda.

⁸ & letters vnto Asaph the Lord of the kynges wood that he may geue me wood for beames to the gates of the palace, which are hard on the house and harde on the walles of the citie, and for the house that I shall entre into. And the kynge gaue me accordynge to the good hand of God vpon me:

¹⁰ At the same time (saith the Lorde) there shalbe hearde a greate crye from the fyshporte and an howlyng from the other porte, and a greate murthur from the hylles.

³³ But on the fourth day was the syluer and goulde and vessell weyed in the house of oure God vnder the hande of Meremoth the sonne of Vriah the pryeste, and with him Eleazar the sonne of Phinehes, and with them Iosabad the sonne of Iesua, and Noadiah the sonne of Benoi the Leuites,

²³ Curse Meroz bad the angell of the Lorde Curse, Curse the enhabytours therof because they came not forth to helpe the Lorde, to help the Lorde amonge the myghtye.

² he sent to Thekoa, and fet thence a wyse woman, and sayde vnto her: feyne thy selfe to be a mourner, and put on mournyng apparell. And annoynt not thy selfe wyth oyle. But be as a woman that had long tyme mourned for the death of some bodye.

⁴ Therfore I thought in my selfe: peraduenture they are so symple and folish, that they vnderstande nothinge of the Lordes waye, and iudgementes of our God. ⁵ Therfore wil I go vnto their heades and rulers, and talke with them: yf they knowe the waie of the lord and the iudgementes of oure God. But these (in like maner) haue broken the yocke, and burste the bandes in sonder.

² Make the bondes & chaynes, & put them aboute thy necke,

⁸ Moreouer, that people and kyngedome whiche wyll not serue Nabuchodonosor, and that wyll not put theyr neckes vnder the yock of the kynge of Babylon: the same people wil I vpset with the swearde, wyth honger, with pestylence, vntyll I haue consumed them in hys handes, sayeth the Lorde.

¹² All these thynges tolde I Zedekiah the Kynge of Iuda, and sayde: Put youre neckes vnder the yocke of the Kynge of Babylon, & serue hym & hys people, that ye maye lyue.

⁸ For in that daye, sayeth the Lorde, I wyll take his yocke from of thy rocke, & breake thy bondes. They shall no more serue straunge Goddes vnder hym, ⁹ but they shall do seruyce vnto God their Lorde, and to Dauid theyr Kynge, whome I wyll rayse vp vnto them.

¹ These are the sermons that were shewed vnto Amos (whiche was one of the shepeherdes at Thecua) vpon Israel, in the tyme of Osiah kynge of Iuda, and in the tyme of Ieroboam the sonne of Ioah kynge of Israel, two yeare before the earthquake.

²⁹ Take my yocke on you and learne of me, for I am meke and lowly in herte: and ye shall fynde reste vnto your soules.

¹⁰ Now therfore why tempte ye God, that ye woulde put a yoke on the disciples neckes, which neyther our fathers nor we were able to beare.

²⁶ Brethren loke on youre callinge howe that not manye wyse men after the fleshe, not manie myghty, not manye of hye degre are called:

¹⁷ Charge them that are ryche in this worlde shal they be not exceadyng wyse, and that they truste not in the vncertayne ryches, but in the lyuyng God, which geueth vs aboundauntly al thynges to enioy them, ¹⁸ and that they do good and be ryche in good workes, and readye to geue and to distrybute,

³ But when the Enhabitoures of Gabaon heard what Iosua had done vnto Iericho, & Ai, ⁴ they played wylylye, and went and sente Ambasadoures, and toke the olde sackes vpon their Asses, and wyne bottelles olde and rent and knyt together agayne, ⁵ and olde clouted shoes vpon theyr fete, and olde rayment vpon them, and all their prouysyon of bread was dryed vp and hored. ⁶ And they came vnto Iosua into the hoste, to Galgall and sayde vnto hym and vnto the men of Israell: we be come from a farre countreye, nowe therfore make agrement with vs. ⁷ And the men of Israel said vnto the Heuites, paraduenture you dwelle amonge vs, and then how shoulde we make peace wyth you? ⁸ And they sayde vnto Iosua, we are thy seruauntes. And Iosua saide vnto them, what are ye, and whence come ye. ⁹ And they answered him. From a verye farre countrey the seruauntes are come in the name of the Lord thy God, for we haue heard the fame of him, and al that he dyd in Egypte, ¹⁰ and al that he dyd to the two kinges of the Amorites beyonde Iordan, Sehon kynge of Hesbon, and Og kyng of Basan, whyche dwelte at Astharoth. ¹¹ Wherfore oure elders and al the Enhabitoures of oure countrey spake to vs, saying: take vitayles wyth you to serue by the waye, and go agaynst them, and saye vnto them: we are youre seruauntes. Nowe therfore make a couenaunt of peace with vs. ¹² This oure prouysion of bread, we toke wyth vs oute of oure houses, whote, the daye we departed to come vnto you. And now beholde it is dried vp and hored. ¹³ And these bottelles of wyne, whiche we fylled were newe, and se, they be rente. And these oure garmentes and shoes are waxen olde by the reason of the exceading long Iourneye. ¹⁴ And the men toke of their vitayles, and conceled not wyth the mouth of the Lorde. ¹⁵ And Iosua made a peace wyth them, and made a couenaunte with them, to saue their lyues, and the Lordes of the congregacyon sware vnto them. ¹⁶ But thre dayes after they had made peace with them, they hearde that they were neighboures vnto them, & that they dwelt amonge them. ¹⁷ For the children of Israel toke their Iourney, and came vnto their cities the thirde daye, and their cities were Gabaon, Caphira, Beeroth, and Kariath Iarim. ¹⁸ And the children of Israell slewe them not, because the Lordes of the congregacion had sworne vnto them by the Lord God of Israel. And therfore al the multitude murmured against the Lordes. ¹⁹ But al the Lordes said vnto al the congregacion, we haue sworne vnto them by the Lorde God of Israel, and therfore we maye not hurte them. ²⁰ But thys we will do to them and let them liue, and so shal no wrath be vpon vs because of the othe which we sware vnto them. ²¹ And the Lordes sayde vnto them, that they should lyue: And they were made hewers of woode and drawers of water vnto al the congregacion, as the Lordes sayde vnto them. ²² Then Iosua sent for them, and talked wyth them, and sayde, wherfore haue ye begiled vs and yet ye dwel amonge vs? ²³ and nowe therfore cursed be you, and there shall not cease to be of you, bond men and hewers of woode & drawers of water vnto the house of my God. ²⁴ And they answered Iosua and sayde, it was tolde thy seruauntes, how that the Lorde thy God had commaunded his seruaunt Moses to geue you al the lande, and to destroye all the Enhabitoures therof oute of youre syghte, and therfore we were exceadinge sore afrayed of oure liues because of you, ²⁵ & nowe beholde, we are in thyne hande, as it semeth good and righte in thyne eyes to do vnto vs, so do. ²⁶ And he dealte as it is sayde, wyth them, and ridde them out of the handes of the chyldren of Israel, that they slewe them not. ²⁷ And Iosua made them that same daye hewers of woode and drawers of water vnto the congregacyon and vnto the aulter of God vnto this day, in the place which God should chose.

² And the kyng called the Gabaonites, and sayde vnto them: Nowe these Gabaonites are not of the chyldren of Israell, but a remnaunt of the Ammorites, and the chyldren of Israel sware vnto them. And yet Saul sought to sley them, for a zele that he had to the children of Israel and of Iuda.

⁶ And then Asa the kinge toke all Iuda, and caryed away and stones & tymbre of Ramah, wherwhyth Baasa was a buyldynge: and he buylt therwyth Gabaa and Marphah.

⁷ and sayde vnto the kynge: yf it please the kynge, let hym geue me letters to the capptaynes beyond the water, that they may conueye me ouer, tyll I come into Iuda: ⁸ & letters vnto Asaph the Lord of the kynges wood that he may geue me wood for beames to the gates of the palace, which are hard on the house and harde on the walles of the citie, and for the house that I shall entre into. ³⁸ The other queer of thankesgeuynge went ouer agaynste them, and I after them, & the halfe parte of the people vpon the wall, towarde the Fornacegate vpwarde, vntyll the brode wall,

¹ Dead flyes that corruppe swete oyntment and make it to stinke are somthyng more worth then the wysdome and honour of a foole.

⁶ Ye fooles (no doute) wyll take out syluer & golde oute of youre purses, and weye it, and hyre a gold smith to make a God of it, that men maye knele downe & worshippe it.

⁸ The nexte daye, we that were of Paules companye, departed and came vnto Cesarea. And we entred into the house of Philip the Euangeliste, whiche was one of the .vij. deacones, & abode wyth hym. ⁹ The same man had foure doughters virgens which dyd prophesy.

³ Yea, and I beseche the faythfull yockefelowe, helpe the women, whiche laboured wyth me in the Gospell, and with Clemente also, and with other my labour felowes, whose names are in the boke of my lyfe.

³⁰ Zonoah, Odollam and in theyr vyllages: At Lachys, and in the feldes there of. At Asekah, and in the vyllages thereof: and dwelt from Bersabe vnto the valleye of Hennom.

¹ Come out of Ierusalem, ye strong children of Ben Iamin: blowe vp the trompettes ye Tecuytes, set vp a token vnto Bethcarem, for a plage and a greate myserye pepeth oute from the Northe.

¹ Then all the chyldren of Israel went out: and there gathered al congregacyon together as it had bene but one man, euen from Dan to Berseba, and out of the land of Galaad, vnto the land to Marphah,

³ And the children of Beniamin heard that the chyldren of Israel were gone vp to Marphah. Then sayde the children of Israel: tell vs, how this wickednesse happened.

⁶ Then went the Kynge and hys men to Ierusalem, vnto the Iebusytes the enhabyters of the lande. And they sayde vnto Dauid: excepte thou take awaye the blynde & the lame thou shalt not come in hyther, meanyng therby that Dauid shulde not haue come in thyther. ⁷ Neuerthelesse Dauid toke the holde of Syon, which is in the cytye of Dauid.

⁴ And therto the cytye was broken vp: wherfore al the men of Armes fled by nyght, by a waye thorowe a Gate, betwene two walles harde on the Kynges garden: the Caldeyes lyenge aboute the cytie. And the kynge went strayght towarde the deserte.

³⁰ And the sayde Hezekiah stopped the vpper water sprynges of Gihon & brought them doune to the West syde of the cytye of Dauid. And Hezekiah prospered in al hys worckes.

¹⁴ And I went ouer vnto the welporte, and to the kynges conduyte, & there was no roume for my beaste, that it coulde go vnder me.

⁷ Nexte vnto them builded Malatiah of Gabaon, and Iadon of Merano, men of Gabaon and of Mazphah for the seate of the captayne on thys syde the water.

⁶ for so muche as the people refuseth the styll runnynge water of Silo, and put their delyte in Razin and Romelies sonne:

⁶ Then went Ieremy vnto Godoliah the sonne of Ahicam to Mazphah, & dwelt there with him among the people that were left in the lande.

⁴ Or those .xviij. vpon whome the towre in Siloe fell, & slewe them, thinke ye that they were sinners aboue all men that dwell in Hierusalem?

⁷ and sayed vnto hym: Go, washe the in the pole of Syloe, whiche by interpretacyon, signifyeth sente. He went hys waye, and washed & came agayne, sayng:

²⁷ In whose steade kynge Rehoboam made brasen shyldes, & put them in the kepynge of the captaynes of the garde which wayted at the dore of the kynges house. ²⁸ And as ofte as the kynge wente into the house of the Lorde, they of his garde bare them, & euer brought them againe into the garde chambre.

²⁰ The remnaunt of the deades of Hezekiah & al his power, and how he made a pole and conduyte and brought the water into the cytye, are written in the boke of the chronycles of the kynges of Iuda.

³ Then sayde God vnto Esay: go mete Ahaz (thou and thy sonne Sear Iasub) at the heade of the ouer pole, in the fote pathe by the fullers grounde,

¹¹ And ye shal make a pyt betwyxte the two walles of the water of the old pole, and nothing regard him, that toke it in hande, & made it.

²⁹ Men and brethren, let me frely speake vnto you of the patriarche Dauid: For he is both dead and buryed, and hys sepulchre remaineth wyth vs vnto this daye.

⁴⁴ Keilah, Kahezyp and Maresah: nyne cytyes wyth their vyllages.

¹ Then men tolde Dauid seyinge: Beholde the Philistines fyghte against Keilah, and spoyle the barnes. ² Then Dauid asked the Lordes aduyse sayinge: shall I go and smyte the Philistines? And the Lorde sayde vnto Dauid: go and smite the Philistines and saue Keilah. ³ Then sayde Dauids men vnto hym: se we be afrayed here in Iuda. What shal we then be, when we come to Keilah, to the host of the Philistines. ⁴ Then Dauid asked the Lorde agayne. And the Lorde answered hym and sayde: vp and go to Keilah, for I will delyuer the Philistines into thyne handes. ⁵ And so Dauid and hys men went to Keilah and fought wyth the Philistines, and draue awaye their cattel and slue a great slaughter of them. And so Dauid saued the enhabyters of Keilah. ⁶ And it chaunced when Abiathar the sonne of Ahimelech fled to Dauid to Keilah, that he brought an Ephod in hys hande. ⁷ And it was tolde Saul, that Dauid was come to Keilah. Then sayde Saul: God hath delyuered hym into my hand. For he is shut in, that he is come into a towne wyth gates & barres. ⁸ And Saul called al the people to warre, for to go to Keilah, to besege Dauid and his men. ⁹ But Dauid had knoweledge that Saul ymagened myschefe agaynst hym, and sayd therefore to Abiathar the pryest: Bring the Ephod. ¹⁰ Then sayde Dauid, O lord God of Israel, thy seruaunt heareth that Saul is about to come to Keilah to destroye the cytye for my sake: ¹¹ wyll the men of Keilah delyuer me into hys hand? or wyll Saul come as thy seruaunt heareth saye? Lorde God of Israell tel thy seruaunt. And the Lorde sayde: he wyll come. ¹² Then sayd Dauid: wyl the men of Keilah delyuer me and my men into the hande of Saul? and the Lorde sayde: they wyll deliuer you. ¹³ Then Dauid and hys men whyche were vpon a .vi. hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah, and went whether chaunce draue them. And when it was tolde Saul, that Dauid was flyd from Keilah, he let the iourney alone.

⁴ Of whiche .xxiiij. thousand were set to forther the worcke of the house of the Lorde. And syxe thousand were officers & Iudges.

¹⁶ After hym builded Nehemiah the sonne of Asdok, the ruler of the half quarter of Bethzur, vntyll the other side ouer agaynste the sepulchres of Dauid, & to the pole Asuia, and vnto the house of the myghtye.

⁹ The Leuites were: Iesua the sonne of Azariah, Benui amonge the chyldren of Henadad & Cadmiel.

⁸ The Leuites were these: Iesua, Bennui, Cadmiel, Sarabiah, Iuda and Mathaniah ouer the offyce of thankesgeuyng, they and theyr brethren:

¹ And Eliasib the hye priest gat hym vp wyth hys brethren the priestes, and buylded the Shepegate. They repared it, & set vp the dores of it, euen vnto the toure Meah repared they it, namely vnto the toure of Hananeel.

²² And in the tyme of Eliasib. Ioiada, Iohanan & Iadua were the cheif fathers amonge the Leuytes, and the prestes wrytten vnder the raygne of Darius the Persian. ²³ The chyldren of Leui the princypall fathers were written in the Cronycles, vntyll the tyme of Ionathan the sonne of Eliasib.

⁴ And before this had the prieste Eliasib delyuered the cheste of the house of oure God vnto hys kynsman Tobiah:

¹⁰ Whatsoeuer thou takest in hande to do, that do wyth all thy power: for among the dead, wher as thou goest vnto, ther is nether worcke, councel, knowledge ner wysdome.

¹¹ Let not the busynes whiche ye haue in hande, be tedyous to you. Be feruente in the spirite. Applye youre selues to the time.

⁷ And Iesua, Baani, Serabiah, Iamin, Acuba, Sebathai, Hodaiah, Maasiah, Celita, Azariah, Iozabed, Hanan, Phalaiah, and the Leuites, caused the people to geue hede vnto the law, & the people stode in theyr place.

⁸ Moreouer, the Caldees brent vp the kinges palace, with the other houses of the people, and brake doune the walles of Ierusalem.

¹⁴ and caused him be set out of the fore entrye of the preson, and committed him vnto Godoliah the sonne of Ahikam the sonne of Saphan: that he should carie him home, & so he dwelt among the people. ¹⁵ Nowe whyle Ieremy laye yet bounde in the fore entrie of the preson, the worde of the Lord came vnto him, sayinge:

³ He built the hie gate of the temple of the Lorde, and on the wall Ophel he buylt moche.

¹ al the people gathered themselues together as one man vpon the strete before the Watergate, and sayde vnto Esdras the scrybe, that he shulde fetche the boke of the lawe of Moses, whiche the Lorde commaunded to Israell.

³ and red therein in the strete that is before the watergate, from the mornynge vntyll the noone daye before men and wemen, and suche as coulde vnderstand it: and the eares of all the people were inclined vnto the boke of the lawe.

¹⁶ And the people wente vp, and fet them, & made them bothes, euerye one vpon the rofe of hys house, and in theyr courtes, and in the courtes of the house of GOD, and in the strete by the Watergate, and in the strete by porte Ephraim.

²⁸ And the other people, the priestes, Leuytes, Porters, syngers, Nethinims, and al they that had separated them selues from the people in the landes vnto the lawe of God, with theyr wyues sonnes and doughters, as many as coulde vnderstande it,

²¹ And the Nethinims dwelt in Ophel: and Ziha and Gaspha belonged vnto the Nethinims.

⁵ Next vnto hym buylded they of Thekua. But theyr greate men put not theyr neckes to the seruyce of theyr Lorde.

¹⁶ And they layde handes on her, & she went the waye that the horses of the kynges went oute & was slayne there.

¹⁵ And they layde handes on her, and when she was come out to the entrynge of the horsgate in the kynges house, they slue her there.

⁴⁰ and the whole, valleye of the dead karcases, and of the ashes, and all Ceremoth vnto the broke of Cedron: and from thence vnto the corner of the horsgate toward the Easte, where as the Sanctuarye of the Lorde also shall be set. And when it is nowe buylded, and set vp of this fashyon it shall neuer be broken, nor caste doune any more.

² And Sechaniah the sonne of Iehiel one of the chyldren of Elam, answered, and sayde vnto Esdras: We haue trespaced agaynste the Lorde oure God, in that we haue taken straunge wyues of all the people of the land. Now there is hope yet in Israel concernyng this

² in to the valley of the chyldren of Hennon, which lieth before the porte that is made of bryck, & shewe them there the wordes, that I shall tell the,

⁸ Nexte vnto hym buylded Vsiel the sonne of Harhaiah the goldsmyth. Nexte vnto hym buylded Hananiah the Apotecarys sonne, & they repayred Ierusalem vnto the brode wal.

³¹ After hym buylded Melchiah the goldesmythes sonne, vntyll the house of the Nethinims & of the merchauntes ouer agaynste the councel gate, and to the parler in the corner.
