⁷ and haste ordeyned the Prophetes to preache of the at Ierusalem, and to saye: He is kynge of Iuda. Now shall this come to the kinges eares: come now therfore, & let vs take oure councell together.

¹⁰ Then Absalom sent spyes thorow out al the trybes of Israel sayinge: as sone as ye heare the voyce of the trompet blowe, saye: Absalom raygneth kynge in Hebron. ¹¹ And wyth Absalom went .ij. hundred men out of Ierusalem that were called. And they went with pure hertes & wist nothing of the matter. ¹² And Absalom sente also for Ahithophel the Gilonite Dauids counseller, and fet hym out of hys citie Giloh, when he sacrifyed sacrifyces. And there was wrought strong treason. And the people drue to Absalom great multytude.

⁷ And he communed wyth Ioab the sonne of Zaruiah and with Abiathar the prieste. And they holpe Adoniah.

¹⁸ But nowe se, Adoniah is kinge and thou my Lord kinge wottest it not.

²⁵ For he is gone doune this day and hath offered, oxen, fatlynges and shepe aboundantlye, and hath called al the Kynges sonnes and the captaynes of the hoste, and Abiathar the priest. And se, they eate and drinck before hym, and saye: God saue kynge Adoniah.

³⁴ And let Sadock the pryest and Nathan the prophet anoynte hym there, to be kynge ouer Israel. And then blowe ye with a trompet and saye: God saue kinge Salomon.

¹² For I perceyued, that God had not sente hym: Yet spake he prophecye vpon me, neuerthelesse Tobiah & Sanabalat had hyred hym for money. ¹³ Therfore toke he the moneye, that throughe feare I shulde so do, and synne: that they myght haue an euil reporte of me, to blaspheme me.

²⁴ An enemy dissembleth with hys lyps, and in the meane season he ymagineth mischefe: ²⁵ but when he speaketh fayre, beleue hym not, for ther are seuen abhomynacons in hys herte. ²⁶ Who so kepeth euel wil, secretly to do hurte, his malice shalbe shewed before the whole congregacion.

¹⁵ Nowe therfore geue ye knoweledge to the vpper captayne & to the counsell, that he brynge hym forthe vnto vs to morowe as thoughe we woulde knowe some thynge more perfectlye of hym: But we, or euer he come neare, are readye in the meane season to kyll hym.
