¹⁷ and refused to heare, and were not myndefull of the wonders that thou dyddeste for them: but became obstynate & heady in so muche that they turned backe to theyr bondage in theyr disobedience. But thou my God forgauest, and wast gracyous, mercyfull, pacyente, and of greate goodnesse, and forsokest them not.

⁶ And when the Lord walked before him, he cried: Lord Lord God full of compassion and mercy, which are not lightly angry but abundaunt in mercy and truth, ⁷ and kepest mercye in store for thousandes, & forgeueste wyckednes, trespace, and synne (for there is no man innocent before the) and vysitest the wyckednes of the father vpon the chyldren and vpon chyldrens chyldren, euen vnto the thyrd and fourth generation.

³ Wherfore hath the Lorde brought vs vnto thys lande to fall vpon the swerde, that both oure wyues, and also our chyldren shoulde be a praye? is it not better that we retourne vnto Egypt agayne? ⁴ And they sayd one to an other: let vs make a captayne and retourne vnto Egypt agayn.

¹¹ And the Lorde sayde vnto Moses: Howe longe shall thys people rayle vpon me, & how long wyll it be yer they beleue me, for all my sygnes whiche I haue shewed amonge them?

¹⁸ the Lord is longe year he be angrye, and ful of mercy, and suffereth synne and trespace, and leaueth no man innocent, and vysyteth the vnrighteousnesse of the fathers vpon the chyldren, euen vpon the thyrd and fourth generacion, ¹⁹ be mercyfull I beseche the therfore vnto the synne of thys people according vnto thy greate mercy, and accordyng as thou hast forgeuen thys people from Egypt euen vnto thys place.

⁴¹ And Moses sayed: wherfore wyll ye go on thys maner beyonde the worde of the Lorde? it wyll not come well to passe

¹⁴ More ouer thou haste brought vs vnto no land that floweth wyth mylke and hony, neyther haste geuen vs possessions of feldes, or of vines. Eyther wilt thou pull out the eyes of these men? we wyl not come.

¹³ And I wyll dwell amonge the chyldren of Israel, and wyll not forsake my people Israel.

⁵⁷ And the Lorde oure God be wyth vs, as he was wyth our fathers, and forsake vs not

¹¹ They forgate what he had done, and the wonderfull workes that he had shewed for them.

³⁸ But he was so mercifull, that he forgaue their misdedes, and destroyed them not. Yea, many a tyme turned he hys wrathe awaye, and wolde not suffre hys whole dyspleasure to aryse.

⁴² They thought not of hys hand, in the day when he delyuered them from the hande of the enemye. ⁴³ Howe he had wroughte hys myracles in Egypte, and hys wonders in the lande of Zoan.

⁵ For thou Lorde arte good and gracyous, and of greate mercye vnto all them that call vpon the.

¹⁵ But thou, O Lord God, art ful of compassion, and mercy, long suffring, great in goodnes and truth.

⁸ The Lord is ful of compassion and mercy, long sufferyng, & of great goodnesse. ⁹ He will not alwaye be chydynge, neither will he kepe his anger for euer. ¹⁰ He hath not dealt with vs after oure sinnes, nor rewarded vs according to our wickednesse. ¹¹ For loke how hye the heauen is in comparison of the earth, so greate is his mercy also towarde them that feare hym. ¹² Loke how wyde the East is from the West, so farre hath he set oure sinnes from vs. ¹³ Yea, like as a father pitieth his owne children, euen so is the Lord mercifull vnto them that feare hym. ¹⁴ For he knoweth whereof we be made, he remembreth that we are but dust. ¹⁵ That a man in hys time is but as grasse, and florisheth as a floure of the felde. ¹⁶ For as sone, as the wynde goeth ouer it, it is gone, and the place thereof knoweth it no more. ¹⁷ But the mercyfull goodnesse of the Lorde endureth for euer and euer, vpon them that feare him, and his righteousnesse vpon their chyldren. ¹⁸ Suche as kepe hys couenaunte, & thynke vpon hys commaundementes to do them.

⁷ Oure fathers regarded not thy wonders in Egypte, they kepte not thy great goodnes in remembraunce: but were dysobedyent at the sea, euen at the reed sea.

¹³ But within a whyle they forgat his workes, and wold not abyde his councel.

²⁴ Yea, they thought scorne of that pleasaunt lande, and gaue no credence vnto hys worde ²⁵ But murmured in their tentes, and herkened not vnto the voyce of the Lord.

⁴³ Many a tyme did he delyuer them but they prouoked him wyth theyr owne inuencyons and were broughte downe for theyr wyckednesse. ⁴⁴ Neuertheles when he saw their aduersitie he herd their complaynt. ⁴⁵ He thought vpon hys couenaunt, and pytyed them, accordyng vnto the multytude of hys mercyes. ⁴⁶ Yea he made all those that had led them awaye captyue, to pitiye them.

⁴ But ther is mercy wyth the, that thou maiest be feared.

⁸ The Lord is gracious and merciful, longe sufferyng, and of great goodnesse. ⁹ The Lorde is louynge vnto euery man, & hys mercy is ouer all hys workes.

²⁴ Seing then that I haue called & ye refused it: I haue stretched out my hand, & no man regarded it,

⁷ Let the vngodly man forsake his wayes & the vnrighteous his ymaginacions, & turne agayne vnto the Lorde: so shall he be mercyfull vnto him: & to oure God, for he is redy to forgeue. ⁸ For thus saith the Lorde: my thoughtes are not youre thoughtes, & youre wayes are not my wayes, ⁹ but as farre as the heauens are hyer then the earth, so farre do my wayes exceade yours, and my thoughtes yours.

¹³ rente your hertes & not youre clothes. Turne you vnto the Lorde youre God, for he is gracyons and mercyfull, longe sufferyng and of great compassyon, & ready to pardone wickednes.

¹⁸ Where is there such a God as thou? that pardonest wickednes, and forgeuest the offences of the remnaunte of thyne herytage? He kepeth not hys wrath for euer. And why? his delyte is to haue compassyon: ¹⁹ he shal turne agayne, and be mercyfull to vs: he shall put doune oure wyckednesses, and caste all oure synnes into the botome of the sea.

⁹ Do ye not yet perceyue, neither remember those fyue loues when there were .v.M. men, & how many baskettes toke ye vp: ¹⁰ Neyther the seuen loues when there were .iiij. thousand, and how many baskettes toke ye vp? ¹¹ Why perceyue ye not then, that I spake not vnto you of bread, when I sayde: beware of the leuen of the Pharises and of the Saduces.

³⁹ to whom our fathers woulde not obey, but cast it from them, and in their hertes turned backe againe into Egipt,

¹⁵ For he sayth to Moyses: I will shewe mercy to whom I shewe mercy: and wyll haue compassion

⁶ to the prayse of the glory of hys grace, wherewith he hath made vs accepted in the beloued. ⁷ By whome we haue redemption thorowe hys bloude, euen the forgeuenes of synnes accordyng to the ryches of hys grace

²⁵ Se that ye despyse not hym, that speaketh. For yf they escaped not whiche refused hym, that spake on earth: muche more shall we not escape, yf we turne awaye from hym that speaketh from heauen:

¹² Wherfore I wyll not be negligente to put you alwayes in remembraunce of such thynges, though that ye knowe them your selues, and be also stablyshed in the presente trueth. ¹³ Notwithstanding I thinke it mete, (as long as I am in this tabernacle) to stere you vp by puttynge you in remembraunc ¹⁴ for as muche as I am sure how that the tyme is at hande, that I must put of my tabernacle, euen as our Lord Iesus Christ hath shewed me. ¹⁵ I wil enforce therfore that on euerye syde ye myght haue wherwith to stere vp the remembraunce of these thynges after my departinge.
