³ And the people chode wt Moses & spake saying: wolde God that we had perished when our brethren perished before the Lord.

² And the hole multitude of the chyldren of Israel murmured agaynst Moses & Aaron in the wyldernesse, ³ & sayd vnto them: wolde to God we had dyed by the hand of the Lorde in the lande of Egypte, when we sat by the fleshpottes, & eate bred our belyes ful, for ye haue brought vs out into this wyldernesse to kyl thys holy multitude for honger.

² And the people chode wyth Moses and sayde: geue vs water to drynke. And Moses sayde vnto them: why chyde ye wyth me, and wherfore do ye tempte the Lord?

¹ And the people complayned & it displeased the eares of the Lorde. And when the lord heard it he was wroth, and the fyre of the Lorde burnt amonge them and consumed the vttermost of the hoste.

³³ And whyle the flesh was yet betwene their teeth, yeare it was chewed vp, the wrath of the Lord waxed whott vpon the people, and the Lord slewe of the people an exceading mightye slaughter. ³⁴ And they called the name of the place kibrath hathauah: because thei buried the people that lusted there.

¹ And al the multitude cryed out, and the people wepte thorowe out that nyght, ² and all the chyldren of Israell murmured agaynst Moses and Aaron. And the whole congregacion sayde vnto them: wolde God that we had dyed in the land of Egypt, eyther we wold that we had dyed in thys wyldernesse.

³⁶ And the men which Moses sent to serche the lande, & which (when they came agayn) made al the people to murmure against it in that they broughte vp a sclaunder vpon the lande: ³⁷ dyed for theyr bryngyng vp that euyll sclaunder vpon it, & were plaged before the Lorde.

³¹ And assone as he hadde made an ende of speakyng al these wordes, the ground cloue a sunder that was vnder them, ³² and the earth opened hyr mouth and swalowed them and theyr houses, and al menne that were wyth Corah and al theyr goodes. ³³ And they and all that pertained vnto them, went downe aliue vnto hell, and the earth closed vppon theim and they peryshed from amonge the congregation. ³⁴ Ad all Israel that were aboute them fledde at the cry of them. For they said: The earth myght haply swalow vs vp also. ³⁵ And there came out a fyre from the Lord and consumed the two hundred and fyftye men that offered cense.

⁴⁹ And the numbre of them that dyed in the plage, were .xiiij. thousand and seuen hundred: beside them that dyed about the busines of Corah.

¹⁰ because it shut not vp the wombe that bare me, ner hyd these sorowes from myne eyes. ¹¹ Alas, why dyed I not in the byrth? Why dyd not I perysh, as sone as I came oute of my mothers wombe?

⁹ Teth. They that be slayne with the swearde, are happier then soch as dye of honger, and perishe awaye famyshyng for the fruites of the felde.
