¹⁶ Who so doth a pore man wrong to increase his owne riches, geueth (commenly) vnto the rych, & at the last commeth to pouerte him selfe.

¹⁹ And why? he hath oppressed the poore, and not helped them: houses hath he spoyled, and not builded them. ²⁰ Hys bely could neuer be fylled, therfore shall he perish in his coueteousnesse. ²¹ He deuoured so gredely that he lefte nothinge behinde, therfore hys goodes shall not prospere. ²² Thoughe he had plenteousnesse of euery thynge, yet was he poore, and therefore he is but a wretche on euery syde. ²³ For though the wicked haue neuer so much to fyll his bely, yet God shall send his wrath vpon hym, and cause hys battaill to raygne ouer him: ²⁴ so that yf he fle the yron wepens, he shall be shott with the stele bowe. ²⁵ The arow shal be taken forth, and go out at hys backe, and a glistering swearde thorow the gall of him, feare shall come vpon him. ²⁶ There shal no darcknes be able to hyd him. And vnkindled fyre shall consume him, and loke what remayneth in his house, it shalbe destroyed. ²⁷ The heauen shal declare his wickednesse, and the earth shall take parte agaynst hym. ²⁸ The substaunce that he hath in hys house, shalbe taken away and peryshe, in the daye of the Lordes wrath. ²⁹ This is the porcyon that the wycked shall haue of God, and the heretage that he may loke for of the Lorde.

⁵ Now for the troubles sake of the oppressed, and because of the complainte of the poore I will vp (sayeth the Lord) I wil helpe them, & set them at rest.

³¹ He that doeth a poore man wrong, blasphemeth hys maker: but who so hathe pytye of the poore, doeth honoure vnto God,

²² Se that thou robbe not the pore because he is weake, & oppresse not the simple in iudgment: ²³ for the Lorde him selfe wyll defende their cause, and do vyolence vnto them that haue vsed vyolence.

³ One pore man oppressinge another by uiolence is lyke a continuall rayne that destroieth the fruyte.

²² He that wyll be ritch all to soone, hath an euell eye, and considereth not, that pouertye shall come vpon him.

² When they couet to haue lande, they take it by vyolence, they robbe men of their houses. Thus they oppresse a man for his house, & euery man for hys heretage. ³ Therfore thus sayeth the Lorde: Beholde agaynst thys housholde haue I deuysed a plage, wherout ye shal not plucke your neckes: Ye shal nomore go so proudely, for it wyll be a perlous tyme.

⁹ Thus sayeth the Lord of Hostes: Execute true iudgement: shew mercy & louinge kindnesse, euery man to his brother. ¹⁰ Do the widdow, the fatherlesse, the straunger, and poore no wronge: and let no man ymagen euil against his brother in his hert. ¹¹ Neuertheles they would not take hede, but turned their backes, & stopped their eares, that they should not heare: ¹² yea, they made their hertes as an Adamant stone, least they should hear the law & wordes, whiche the Lorde of hostes sent in his holy spirite by the Prophetes afore tyme. Wherfore the Lorde of hostes was verye wroth at them. ¹³ And thus it is come to passe, that like as he spake, & they woulde not hear: euen so they cryed, and I woulde not heare, (sayeth the Lord of hostes) ¹⁴ but scatered them among al Gentiles, whom they knew not: Thus the lande was made so desolate, that there trauayled no man in it, neyther to, nor for for that pleasaunt lande was vtterly layed waste.

³³ And if ye do for them which do for you, what thanke are ye worthye of? For the verye synners do euen the same. ³⁴ If ye lende to them of whom ye hope to receiue, what thanke shall ye haue: for the very synners lende to synners to receiue much againe. ³⁵ Wherfore, loue ye your enemyes, do good and lende, lokinge for nothynge againe, and your rewarde shall be greate, and ye shalbe the children of the hyest for he is kinde vnto the vnkinde and to the euyll.

¹² Then sayde he also to hym that had desyered hym to dyner. When thou makest a dyner or a supper: call not thy frendes, nor thy brethren, neyther thy kynsmen nor yet ryche neyghboures: least they byd the agayne, and a recompence be made the. ¹³ But when thou makest a feaste, call the poore the maymed, the lame, and the blynde, ¹⁴ & thou shalte be happy, for they can not recompence the. But thou shalte be recompensed at the resurreccyon of the iust men.

²⁴ and he cryed & sayed: father Abraham haue mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he maye dyppe the typpe of his fynger in water, and cole my tonge, for I am tormented in this flamme.

¹³ For there shalbe iudgemente mercyles to hym, that sheweth no mercy, & mercy reioyseth against iudgemente.

¹ Go to nowe ye ryche men. Weepe, and howle on your wretchednes that shal come vpon you. ² Youre ryches is corrupte youre garmentes are motheaten. ³ Your gold and your siluer are cankered, & the ruste of them shal be a witnes vnto you, and shall eate your fleshe, as it were fyre. Ye haue heaped treasure together in your laste dayes: ⁴ Beholde the hyre of the labourers which haue reped doun your fieldes (which hyer is of you kept backe by fraude) crieth: & the cryes of them whiche haue reped, are entred into the eares of the Lorde Sabaoth ⁵ Ye haue lyued in pleasure on the earth, & in wantonnes. Ye haue norished your hertes, as in a day of slaughter
