⁴ Their ymages are but syluer and gold, euen the worke of mens handes.

²⁸ & there ye shall serue Gods whych are the workes of mans hand, wod & stone which neither se nor heare nor eate nor smell.

¹⁸ and haue set fyre on their Goddes. For they were no Goddes, but the worke of the handes of man, euen wood and stone. And therfore they destroyed them.

⁷ Confounded be all thei that worship ymages, and delyte in their Idols: worship him all ye Goddes.

¹⁵ As for the ymages of the Heathen, they are but siluer and golde, the worcke of mens handes. ¹⁶ They haue mouthes, and speake not: eyes haue they, but they se not. ¹⁷ They haue eares, and yet they heare not, neyther is ther any breath in their mouthes. ¹⁸ They that make them, are lyke vnto them, and so are all they that put their trust in them.

¹⁹ and cast their goddes in the fyre. Not wythstandynge those were no goddes but the worckes of mens handes, of wod or stone, therfore haue they destroyed them.

¹⁹ Shall the caruer make hym carued ymage? and shall the goldsmyth couer hym with golde, or cast hym in to a fourme of syluer plates? ²⁰ Moreouer shall the ymage maker (that the poore man whyche is dysposed, maye haue some thynge to set vp also) seke out & chose a tree, that is not rotten, and came therout an ymage, that moueth not?

¹⁷ And therfore let them conuerte, and be ashamed earnestlye, that hope in Idoles, and saye to fashyoned ymages: ye are oure godes.

¹⁰ Who shulde now make a God, or fashion an Idole, that is profytable for nothynge?

²⁰ The kepyng of dust, and folishnesse of herte hath turned them asyde: so that none of them can haue a fre conscience to thyncke maye not I erre?

¹ Neuertheles Bell shall fall, and Nabo shalbe broken: whose ymages are a burthen for the beastes and cattell, to ouerlade them, and to make them weery. ² They shall syncke downe, and fall together: for they maye not ease them of their burthen, therfore muste they go in to captyuyte.

⁶ Ye fooles (no doute) wyll take out syluer & golde oute of youre purses, and weye it, and hyre a gold smith to make a God of it, that men maye knele downe & worshippe it. ⁷ Yet muste he be taken on mens shoulders & borne, & set in hys place that he maye stande and not moue. Alas that men shulde crye vnto hym, which geueth no answere: and delyuereth not the man that calleth vpon hym, from hys trouble.

³ yea all the customes and lawes of the Gentiles are nothinge, but vanite. They hewe doune a tree in the wood with the handes of the worcke man, and fashyon it with the axe: ⁴ they couer it ouer with gold or siluer, they fasten it with nayles and hammers, that it moue not. ⁵ It standeth as styfe as the palmetree, it can not neyther speake nor go, but must be borne. Be not ye afrayed of suche, for they can do neyther good nor euill.

⁶ For the calfe came from Israel, the worcke man made it, therfore can it be no God but euen to a spyders webbe shall the calfe of Samaria be turned.

¹⁸ What helpe then wyll the Image do, whom the worckman hath fashyoned? Or the vayne cast Image, wherein because the craftesman putteth hys trust, therfore maketh he domme Idols? ¹⁹ Wo vnto hym, that sayeth to a pece of woode: aryse, & to a domme stone: stande vp. For what instruccyon maye suche one geue? Beholde it is layed ouer wyth gold and siluer and there is no breth in it. ²⁰ But the Lord in his holy temple is he, whome all the world shuld feare.

²⁶ Moreouer ye se & heare that not alone at Ephesus, but almoste thorough out al Asia, this Paule hath persuaded and turned away muche people: saying that they be not Goddes, whiche are made wyth handes.

³⁵ When the towne clarke had ceased the people he saied: ye men of Ephesus, what man is it that knoweth not how that the cytye of the Ephesyans is a worshypper of the great God as Diana, and of the ymage, which came from heauen.

¹⁹ What saye I then? that the Image is any thinge? or that it whiche is offered to Images is anye thinge? ²⁰ Naye, but I saye, that these thinges, whiche the Gentyles offer, they offer to deuyls, and not to God. And I woulde not that ye should haue felloushippe wt the deuyls.
