⁵ which shalbe slaine of those that possesse them: yet they take it for no sinne, but they that sell them, say: The Lorde be thancked, I am rich: yea, their owne sheperdes spare them not.

²⁶ Than sayde Iuda to hys brethren, what auayleth it that we sley oure brother, & kepe hys bloude secret? ²⁷ come on, let vs sell hym to the Ismaelites, & let not our handes be defyled vpon him: for he is our brother and our flesh. And his brethren were content. ²⁸ Than as the Madianites marchaunt men passed by, they drewe Ioseph out of the pyt & solde hym vnto the Ismaelites for .xx. peces of syluer. And they brought him into Egypte.

¹⁹ so that when he heareth the wordes of this curse, he blesse him self in his hert saying: I shall haue peace. I wyll therfore worke after the luste of myne owne hert, that the droncken may perysh with the thyrstye. ²⁰ And so the Lorde wyll not be mercyfull vnto hym, but then the wrath of the lord & his gelousye, smoke agaynst that man, & al the curses that are written in thys boke lyght vpon hym, and the Lorde do out hys name from vnder heauen, ²¹ and separate hym vnto euell out of all the trybes of Israell accordyng vnto al the curses of the appoyntement that is written in the boke of this lawe.

¹ And there cryed a certayn woman of the wyues of the chyldren of the Prophetes, vnto Elizeus saying: thy seruaunt my husband is deade, and thou knowest that thy seruaunt dyd feare the Lorde. And the creditor is come to fet my two sonnes, to be his bondemen.

⁸ and sayde vnto them: we (after oure abilyte) haue bought oure brethren the Iewes, which were solde vnto the heythen. And wyll ye sell youre brethren, whom we haue boughte vnto vs? Then helde they theyr peace, and coulde fynde nothynge to aunswere.

³ Thou Israel wast halowed vnto the Lorde, and so was his fyrst frutes. Al they that deuoured Israel, offended: mysfortune fell vpon them, sayeth the Lorde.

¹ Wo be vnto the shepherdes, that destroye, and scatre my flocke, sayeth the Lorde. ² Wherfore, thys is the commaundement of the Lorde God of Israel, vnto the shepherdes that fede my people: Ye scatre and thrust out my flocke, & loke not vpon them. Therfore now wyll I vyset the wickednes of youre ymaginacyons, sayeth the Lorde:

⁷ All they that came vpon them, haue deuoured them: & theyr enemyes sayde: We haue made no faute agaynst them for they haue displeased the Lorde, yea euen the Lorde whiche is the bewtie of theyr ryghtuousnes, & that defended theyr fathers.

²⁵ thy Prophetes that are in the, are sworne together to deuoure soules, lyke as a roarynge Lyon, that lyueth by his praye. They receyue ryches and good, and make many widdowes in the. ²⁶ Thy priestes breake my lawe, and defyle my Sanctuarye. They put no dyfference betwene the holy and vnholy, nether discerne betwene the cleane and vncleane: they turne their eyes from my Sabbothes, & I am vnhalowed among them. ²⁷ Thy rulers in the ate like rauishing wolues, to shed bloude, and to destroye soules, for their owne couetous lucre.

² Thou sonne of man, prophecy against the shepeherdes of Israel, prophecye and speake vnto them: Thus sayeth the Lorde God: Wo be vnto the shepeherdes of Israel, that fede them selues. Shulde not the shepeherdes fede the flockes? ³ Ye haue eaten vp the fatte, ye haue clothed you wyth the wol: the best fedde haue ye slayne, but the flocke haue ye not noryshed. ⁴ The weake haue ye not holden vp, the sicke haue ye not healed: the broken haue ye not bounde together, the oute castes haue ye not brought agayne: the lost haue ye not soughte, but churlishly and cruellye haue ye ruled them.

⁶ My shepe go wandrynge vpon all mountaynes, and vpon euerye hye hyl. Yea they be scatred abroade in al feldes, and there is no man, that careth for them, or seketh after them.

¹⁰ Thus sayth the Lord God: Beholde, I my self wyll vpon the shepherdes and requyre my shepe from theyr handes, and make them ceasse from fedynge of my shepe: yea the shepherdes shall fede them selues no more: For I wyll delyuer my shepe oute of theyr mouthes, so that they shall not deuoure them after this.

¹⁸ Was it not ynough for you to eat vp the good pasture, but ye must treade downe the residue of your pasture with your fete also? Was it not ynough for you to drink cleare water, but ye must trouble the resydue also with your fete? ¹⁹ Thus my shepe muste be fayne to eate the thynge, that ye haue troden doune with your fete, & to drincke it, that ye with youre fete haue befyled.

²¹ for so muche as ye haue shot the weake shepe vpon the sydes & shoulders, and runne vpon them with youre hornes, so longe tyll ye haue vtterlye scatred them abroad

⁸ Ephraim thinketh thus: Tush, I am ryche, I haue good ynoughe. In all my worckes shall not one fawte be founde, that I haue offended.

¹ Heare, O ye heades of the house of Iacob, & peleders of the house of Israel: Shulde not ye know what were lawfull and ryght? ² But ye hate the good, and loue the euell: ye plucke of mennes skynnes, and the flesh from their bones: ³ ye eate the flesh of my people, and slay of their skynne: ye breake their bones, ye choppe them in peces as it were in to a cauldron, and as flesh into a pot.

⁹ O heare this ye rulers of the house of Iacob, and ye iudges of the house of Israell: ye that abhorre the thynge that is laufull, and wrayst asyde the thynge that is streyght. ¹⁰ Ye that buylde vp Syon wyth bloude, and Ierusalem wyth doynge wronge. ¹¹ O ye iudges, ye geue sentence for gyftes: O ye preastes, ye teach for lucre: O ye Prophetes, ye prophecy for monye. Yet wyll they be taken as those that holde vpon God, and saye: Is not the Lorde amonge vs? Tushe, there can no mysfortune happen vs. ¹² Therfore shall Syon (for youre sakes) be plowed lyke a felde: Ierusalem shalbe come an heape of stones, and the hyll of the temple shalbe turned to an hye wodde.

¹² And Iesus wente into the temple of God, and caste out all them that soulde and bought in the temple, & ouerthrewe the tables of the money chaungers, & the seates of them that solde doues, ¹³ and sayde to them: It is writen, my house shalbe called the house of prayer. But ye haue made it a denne of theues.

¹³ Wo be vnto you Scribes and Phariseis, hypocrites, for ye shut vp the kyngdome of heauen before men: ye youre selues go not in, neyther suffer ye them that come to enter in.

¹ Verelye verelye I saye vnto you: he that entreth not in by the dore, into the shepe folde: but climmeth vp some other waye, the same is a thefe and a robber.

¹² An hyred, seruaunte, which is not the shepeherde, neyther the shepe are hys own, seeth the wolfe commynge, and leaueth the shepe, and fleeth, and the wolfe catcheth them, & scatiereth the shepe. ¹³ The hyred seruaunte fleeth, because he is an hyred seruaunte, and careth not for the shepe.

² They shall excommunicate you: ye the tyme shall come, that whosoeuer kylleth you, wil thinke that he doeth god seruice.

⁵ and vayne disputacyons of men wyth corrupte myndes, and destytute of the trueth, whiche thynke that lucre is Godlines, from suche separate thy self. ⁶ Godlynes is greate ryches, yf a man be content with that he hath. ⁷ For we broughte nothynge into thys worlde & it is a playne case that we can carye nothyng out. ⁸ When we haue fode and raymente, let vs therwyth be content. ⁹ They that wyll be rych, fall into temptacyon and snares, and into many folysh and noysome lustes which drowne men in perdicyon and destruccyon. ¹⁰ For couetousnes is the rote of all euyll, whiche whyle some lusted after, they erred from the faythe and tangled them selues wyth manye sorowes.

³ and thorowe couetousnes shal they wyth fayned wordes make marchaundyse of you, whose iudgement is not farre of, and theyr dampnacion slepeth not.

¹³ & sinamome, and odoures, and oyntmentes, & frankinsence, and wine, and oyle, and fine floure, and wheat, beastes, and shepe, and horsses, & charrettes, and bodyes, and soules of men.
